ABSTRACT A 7-week-old male delivered by cesarean section presented with a positive serology for dengue along with preretinal and retinal hemorrhages, vitreous opacities and cotton wool spots. The patient and his mother had positive serologies for Non Structural Protein 1 (NS1) by ELISA. Retinal and vitreous findings improved over a sixteen-week period. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed preserved macular architecture. In this case report, we suggest that retinal and vitreous changes may be the ocular presenting features of vertically transmitted dengue in newborns, and that those findings may resolve with no major structural sequelae.

RESUMO Neonato de 7 semanas, do sexo masculino, nascido de parto cesárea, apresentou sorologia positiva para dengue com hemorragias retinianas e pré-retinianas, opacidades vítreas e manchas algodonosas. O paciente e sua mãe haviam apresentado sorologias positivas para Non Structural Protein 1 através de ELISA. Achados na retina e no vítreo melhoraram em um período de dezesseis semanas. O exame de tomografia de coerência óptica de domínio espectral demonstrou arquitetura macular preservada. Neste relato de caso, sugerimos que alterações na retina e no vítreo podem ser os achados oculares aparentes em neonatos com infecção vertical por dengue, e que estes podem se resolver sem maiores sequelas estruturais.

ABSTRACT In irrigated production systems, the common bean grain yield must reach high levels to maintain economic viability. In this context, management, like the selection of the most adapted cultivars, may be effective in obtaining high yields. Through a three-year experiment, it was aimed to select the common bean cultivars with the highest agronomic and technological performance in an irrigated production system and to determine the yield component that most interfered with common bean yield. The treatments consisted of eight common bean cultivars with indeterminate growth habit and from the pinto bean variety (carioca): ANFc 9, BRS Estilo, BRSMG Madrepérola, Pérola, IAC Alvorada, IAC Milênio, TAA Bola Cheia, and TAA Dama. IAC Milênio and IAC Alvorada had the highest agronomic performance for irrigated production systems, with grain yields up to 17% higher than other cultivars. The cultivars show little variation in the grain technological quality, meeting the culinary and nutritional qualities recommended for common bean. The ANFc 9 cultivar showed the highest crude protein content in grains (19%). The number of pods per plant is the yield component that most interferes with common bean grain yield, generating 86 kg ha-1 increments for each unitary increase. Therefore, the common bean cultivars selection in the irrigated production system is an effective management practice to increase common bean agronomic and quality performance.

RESUMO Em sistemas de produção irrigados, a produtividade de grãos do feijão-comum deve atingir níveis elevados para manter a viabilidade econômica. Nesse contexto, manejos como a seleção de cultivares mais adaptadas podem ser eficazes na obtenção de altas produtividades. Através de um experimento de três anos, objetivou-se selecionar as cultivares de feijão-comum com maior desempenho agronômico e tecnológico em sistema de produção irrigado, além de determinar o componente de produção que mais interfere na produtividade de grãos. Os tratamentos consistiram de oito cultivares de feijão-comum de hábito de crescimento indeterminado e grupo comercial de grãos ‘carioca’: ANFc 9, BRS Estilo, BRSMG Madrepérola, Pérola, IAC Alvorada, IAC Milênio, TAA Bola Cheia e TAA Dama. As cultivares IAC Milênio e IAC Alvorada apresentam o maior desempenho agronômico para o sistema de produção irrigado, com produtividade de grãos até 17% superior em relação às demais cultivares. As cultivares apresentam pouca variação na qualidade tecnológica do grão, atendendo às qualidades culinárias e nutricionais recomendadas para o feijão-comum. A cultivar ANFc 9 apresentou o maior teor de proteína bruta nos grãos (19%). O número de vagens por planta foi o componente de produção que mais interferiu na produtividade de grãos do feijão-comum, gerando incrementos de 86 kg ha-1 para cada aumento unitário. Portanto, a seleção de cultivares de feijão em sistema de produção irrigado é uma prática de manejo eficaz para aumentar o desempenho agronômico e qualitativo do feijão-comum.

Abstract Introduction: Native Forest resources, mainly in the Brazilian caatinga biome, are important for the subsistence of the rural population as well as for the local red ceramic and gypsum industry. Objective: To study the municipal disparity in the gross value of production of native timber products in Paraíba, Brazil. Materials and methods: Data on the gross value of production (GVP) of forest products (firewood, charcoal and roundwood) of the municipalities of Paraíba, Brazil, from 1994 to 2017 were used. This information is available from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Location indicators (location and redistribution coefficients) and specialization indicators (specialization and restructuring coefficients) were used. Results and discussion: Firewood was the main timber product in the municipalities of Paraíba and there was a substitution effect between firewood and charcoal; the latter showed the best state redistribution and roundwood the lowest municipal production. The greatest specialization occurred in the municipality of Baía da Traição, represented by the exclusive production of charcoal. The municipalities of Tacima, Salgado de São Félix and Itapororoca showed greater restructuring, resulting from the change from charcoal to firewood production. Conclusions: Firewood is the most important product in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. This study becomes an important source of information for the use of this resource.

Resumen Introducción: Los recursos forestales nativos, principalmente en el bioma caatinga brasileño, son importantes para la subsistencia de la población rural como para la industria local de cerámica roja y yeso. Objetivo: Analizar la disparidad municipal en el valor bruto de producción de productos madereros nativos en Paraíba, Brasil. Materiales y métodos: Se utilizaron datos sobre el valor bruto de producción (VBP) de productos forestales (leña, carbón y madera en rollo) de los municipios de Paraíba, Brasil, de 1994 a 2017. Esta información está disponible en Instituto de Geografía y Estadística Brasileñas (IBGE). Se utilizaron indicadores de ubicación (coeficientes de ubicación y redistribución) y de especialización (coeficientes de especialización y de reestructuración). Resultados y discusión: La leña era el principal producto maderero en los municipios de Paraíba y existía un efecto de sustitución entre leña y carbón vegetal; este mostró la mejor redistribución estatal, y la madera en rollo, la menor producción municipal. La mayor especialización se dio en el municipio de Baía da Traição, representado por la producción exclusiva de carbón vegetal. Los municipios de Tacima, Salgado de São Félix e Itapororoca presentaron mayor reestructuración, debido al cambio de la producción de carbón vegetal a la de leña. Conclusiones: La leña es el producto más importante en el estado de Paraíba, Brasil. Este trabajo se convierte en una fuente importante de información para el uso del recurso maderero.

This work describes a green synthesis, the characterization, and biological evaluation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The AgNPs suspension was synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of Eucalyptus grandis, which presented a characteristic band at 407 nm in the UV-Vis spectrum. The AgNPs presented a spherical shape and size of 9.7 ± 0.3 nm. The nanoparticles were stable over a month, indicating that E. grandis’ extract is suitable for their preparation and stabilization. The X-ray analysis showed that the crystallinity of AgNPs corresponded to the centered face phase of silver. The antibacterial and leishmanicidal activities of AgNPs were evaluated. The AgNPs presented antibacterial activity on the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli at 53.9 µg mL-1. The leishmanicidal activity evaluation against promastigote forms of Leishmania infantum, Leishmania amazonensis, and Leishmania braziliensis showed that the biological response is dependent on the volume of AgNP suspension. It was demonstrated that L. infantum was more sensitive to the nanoparticle’s treatment than L. amazonensis and L. braziliensis. The treatment of L infantum promastigotes with 150 µL of AgNP suspension reduced parasite growth by 67.9%, a result which was similar to the treatment with 1 (66.7%) or 2 µL (70.6%) of amphotericin B used as a positive control.

ABSTRACT Considered as a radical subjectivist who presented the world as a mere product of thought, Fichte had to face charges of atheism, naïve idealism and reductionism. He always reacted identically, repeatedly explaining his system, or redirecting it in order to overcome new challenges. Even though, part of his critics especially the ones who saw in his theories a deficient concept of Nature, like Schelling, who was moved by a bitter personal and conceptual disagreement with him around 1801, would later consider Fichte’s final works as a complete reformulation. Recent historical research, however, shows that Fichte was aware of his lack of clarity concerning natural philosophy already in 1798, and he even admitted being incapable of solving the problem. We argue here that Fichte’s original conception of nature original is not so far from the new one, and that his further presentation is not a mere defensive reaction to the advancement of Schellingian philosophy of nature.

RESUMO Caricaturado como criador de uma filosofia subjetivista extrema, que apresenta o mundo como mero produto do pensamento, Fichte teve de confrontar em diferentes fases de sua vida acusações de ateísmo, idealismo ingênuo e simplismo. Reagiu a todas exatamente da mesma forma, reexplicando seu sistema, ou redirecionando-o para cobrir os desafios que se avolumavam. Contudo, parte de seus críticos, particularmente os que viam nele um conceito de natureza muito deficitário, como Schelling, por ocasião do forte desentendimento entre os dois por volta de 1801, crerão que a obra madura de Fichte tenta sanar o erro. A pesquisa histórica recente, no entanto, mostra que Fichte estava bem ciente dos problemas ligados à filosofia natural já por volta de 1798, e admitia ter dificuldade em resolvê-los. Defenderemos que a formulação original do conceito de natureza de Fichte não chega a ser tão distinta de sua versão posterior, e que esta não se resume a uma mera reação defensiva diante do avanço da filosofia da natureza de Schelling.

The assessment of chlorine, fluorine, and sulfur concentrations in depth profile of drill cuttings was performed using ion chromatography after sample preparation by pyrohydrolysis. The parameters for pyrohydrolysis were optimized using a Box-Behnken design, and the established conditions were 300 mg of sample, 300 mg of V2O5, temperature of 1000 °C, reaction time of 25 min, and absorbing solution of 50 mmol L-1 NH3 + 150 mmol L-1 H2O2. The accuracy was evaluated by the analysis of certified reference materials and recovery tests, and the results showed a good agreement between determined and certified values and recoveries (89-108%). The precision (relative standard deviation (RSD) < 10%), and the limits of detection (0.5-2.5 mg kg 1) were suitable for drill cuttings analysis. The concentration of chlorine, fluorine, and sulfur in drill cuttings at different depths was at mg g-1 range, and its variation is related to the mineral composition of the samples.

Abstract Mortar coatings have a major influence on a building’s aesthetics, valorization, and habitability, with significant effects on the mechanical behavior of masonry walls. Multiple types of meshes can be embedded in plaster to enhance both masonry and coating’s mechanical behavior, restrain crack formation, enhance the bonding between layers, and increase the wall’s seismic resistance. The reinforcement technique has simple execution and is suitable for many applications, including the strengthening of non-load bearing walls, façade performance improvement, and restoration of historical buildings. However, there is an absence of guidelines and specifications for design and execution, resulting in high variability in field applications due to the many variables involved and few in-depth studies. This paper presents a systematic review of the effects of mesh reinforcement in cementitious mortar coatings and its major applications. ABSTRACT: The objective of the present study was to detect the genetic diversity of Anaplasma marginale strains in naturally infected calves from a rural property located in the northeastern region of the state of Pará, Eastern Amazon, which has a history of mortality due to anaplasmosis. Fourteen calves positive for A. marginale were selected using a semi-nested polymerase chain reaction for the target msp1α gene, with asymptomatic (n=3) and symptomatic (n=11) infections. After sequencing the samples, two genotypes were verified in the E and C regions and the structures in tandem repeats were determined. Nine different strains were found: eight related to the E genotype (α-β-β-Γ = one animal, asymptomatic; 16-F-17-F-F = two animals, symptomatic; α-β-F-F-F-F = one animal, asymptomatic; 31-62-62-61 = one animal, symptomatic; τ-10-3 = three animals, two symptomatic and one asymptomatic; α-β-β-β = one animal, symptomatic; τ-22 -13-18 = two animals, both symptomatic; β-β-β-BRA1-31 = two animals, both symptomatic), and one related to genotype C (23-24-25-31-27-27 = one animal, asymptomatic). Genotype E was predominant in 92.86% of the samples (13/14), followed by genotype C (7.14%). This study made it possible to detect the genetic diversity of A. marginale in calves from the selected dairy farm, in addition to identifying the BRA1 sequence in the animals of the present study, which was recently diagnosed in Minas Gerais, demonstrating the dispersion of A. marginale strains in herds from different Brazilian states. Genetic diversity of A. marginale was observed in both symptomatic and asymptomatic calves. There were no significant differences when clinical signs were compared to the genotype verified in the infected animals. The prevalence of pathogenicity was not observed.

RESUMO: O objetivo do presente trabalho foi detectar a diversidade genética de cepas de Anaplasma marginale em bezerros naturalmente infectados oriundos de uma propriedade rural localizada na região nordeste do estado do Pará, Amazônia Oriental, a qual apresentava histórico de mortalidade devido à anaplasmose. Foram selecionados 14 bezerros positivos para A. marginale pela técnica de semi-nested PCR (nPCR) para o alvo no gene msp1α, com infecção assintomática (n=3) e sintomáticos (n=11). Após o sequenciamento das amostras foram verificados dois genótipos nas regiões E e C, e determinadas as estruturas em tandem repeats. Nove diferentes estirpes foram encontradas, sendo oito relacionadas ao genótipo E (α-β-β-Γ = um animal, assintomático; 16-F-17-F-F = dois animais, sintomáticos; α-β-F-F-F-F = um animal, assintomático; 31-62-62-61 = um animal, sintomático; τ-10-3 = três animais, dois sintomáticos e um assintomático; α-β-β-β = um animal, sintomático; τ-22-13-18 = dois animais, sintomáticos; β-β-β-BRA1-31 = dois animais, sintomáticos) e uma relacionada ao genótipo C (23-24-25-31-27-27 = um animal, assintomático). O genótipo E foi predominante em 92,86% das amostras (13/14), seguido pelo genótipo C (7,14%). O estudo possibilitou a detecção da diversidade genética de A. marginale em bezerros dessa propriedade leiteira, além de identificar a sequência BRA1 nos animais do presente estudo, a qual foi diagnosticada recentemente em Minas Gerais, o que demonstra a dispersão das estirpes de A. marginale nos rebanhos de diferentes estados brasileiros. A diversidade genética de A. marginale foi observada tanto em bezerros sintomáticos quanto em assintomáticos e não houve diferença significativa quando se comparou os sinais clínicos ao genótipo verificado no animal infectado, não observando a prevalência de patogenicidade de estirpes.

The objective of this research was the sustainable development of pullulan and its structural and rheological characterization. In addition, the cultivation of the A. pullulans Y2092 strain by submerged fermentation on a laboratory scale was evaluated, valuing the use of industrial waste (residual brewery's yeast), RBY, and a low-cost renewable raw material VHP (very high polarization sugar). A 22 factorial statistical design of experiments was used to analyze the molecular weight of the pullulans produced. The maximum value of 1955 kDa was determined for the pullulan recovered after 96 h of fermentation in the mineral medium added with 70 g/L of VHP and 50 g/L of RBY. The FTIR analysis for the pullulan obtained was similar to the commercial pullulan. The rheological behavior of pullulan solutions is shown, evidencing the relationship between this property and Mw. The results from all analyses indicate that the pullulan obtained is suitable for the future production of biopolymeric films.

Cancer treatment represents one of the main scientific study targets today, mainly due to the pronounced side effects arising from chemotherapy. This study reports the synthesis, characterization, and anticancer activity of ten compounds from the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction. Ethylene glycol diacrylate was used as a double Michael acceptor in reactions with isatin derivatives to give homodimers of 3-hydroxyindolin-2-one core, recognized in the literature for its extensive pharmacological profile. The use of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane (DABCO) as a catalyst and room temperature were the optimal conditions for the study reaction. The isolated yields were up to 63%, with most reaction times inferior to 24 h, some as fast as 15 min. The anticancer potential of the synthesized dimers was evaluated in vitro against three cancer strains, resulting in average inhibitory concentrations up to 0.72 µM. It was also found that the best performing homodimers are more active than their monomeric counterparts. Considering the promising selectivity indices observed, the preliminary results obtained here act as a basis for broader tests regarding the effectiveness of homodimeric adducts against cancer cells.

Abstract It is repeatedly stressed the need to characterize the extant biodiversity in tropical ecosystems. However, inventory studies are still progressing slowly in dry ecosystems, leading to the underestimation of their true biodiversity and hindering conservation efforts. In this study, we present primary and secondary data, along with an updated list of amphibians and reptiles from two localities in the São Francisco-Gurguéia region in Piauí. Additionally, we compare the species composition between nine areas within the Caatinga, which were sampled using standardized methods over the past ten years, to examine broader spatial patterns of community composition. To survey reptiles and amphibians, we employed similar methods and sampling efforts in two areas within the Serra das Confusões National Park (SCNP) region. Our surveys recorded a total of 73 species of amphibians and reptiles, of which 24 are new distribution records for the SCNP region. Consequently, our findings increase the known herpetofauna in the region to 94 species. Despite their proximity, the two sites in the SCNP region exhibited only 42% similarity in species composition, and they differed significantly from other areas within the Caatinga. Furthermore, even the closer Caatinga areas presented differences in species composition, highlighting the necessity to evaluate biodiversity across the landscape and contribute to understanding biogeographic patterns.

Resumo É repetidamente enfatizada a necessidade de caracterizar a biodiversidade vivente em ecossistemas tropicais. No entanto, os estudos de inventário ainda estão progredindo lentamente em ecossistemas secos, levando à subestimação de sua verdadeira biodiversidade e dificultando os esforços de conservação. Neste estudo, apresentamos dados primários e secundários, juntamente com uma lista atualizada de anfíbios e répteis de duas localidades na região de São Francisco-Gurguéia, do Piauí. Além disso, comparamos a composição de espécies entre nove áreas dentro da Caatinga, que foram amostradas usando métodos padronizados nos últimos dez anos, para examinar padrões espaciais mais amplos de composição da comunidade. Para estudar répteis e anfíbios, utilizamos métodos e esforços de amostragem semelhantes em duas áreas na região do Parque Nacional da Serra das Confusões (PNSC). Nossos levantamentos registraram um total de 73 espécies de anfíbios e répteis, das quais 24 são novos registros de distribuição para a região do PNSC. Consequentemente, nossos resultados aumentam a herpetofauna conhecida na região para 94 espécies. Apesar da proximidade, os dois locais na região do PNSC exibiram apenas 42% de similaridade na composição de espécies e diferiram significativamente de outras áreas dentro da Caatinga. Mesmo áreas mais próximas da Caatinga apresentaram diferenças na composição de espécies, destacando a necessidade de avaliar a biodiversidade em toda a paisagem e contribuir para a compreensão de padrões biogeográficos.

Abstract Storage is important in the coffee post-harvest. Determining the maximum period that coffee can remain storaged is important aiming to reduce losses in quality and, consequently, allow the producer to achieve maximum profitability. The aim was to determine the suitable storage period for natural and fully washed coffees, under different conditions. Beans were dried to 11% moisture content after dry processing (natural coffee, dry cherry coffee) and wet processing (parchment coffee, fully washed). Before storage, part of the coffee was hulled and part was not. The coffee was stored under refrigerated air (10ºC and 50% relative humidity) or in an environment at 25ºC. In the periods of 0, 3, 6, and 12 months, samples were taken for sensory, electrical conductivity and tetrazolium evaluation. Refrigerated environment favors conservation of sensory and physiological quality of the natural hulled coffee beans and fully washed coffee. Hulled beans of natural and fully washed coffee stored under refrigerated conditions have the initial quality conserved for up to 12 months and in non-controlled environmental, for up to 3 months. Mechanical damage caused by hulling, associated with the lack of tissue fruit parts, contributes to reduction hulled coffee quality in storage, regardless of the processing.

Objectives: Children of depressed mothers are at risk of developing mental health problems. We sought to determine whether treatment for maternal depression by community-based health workers would decrease behavioral/emotional symptoms in their children. Interventions for maternal depressive symptoms in a low/middle-income country can have a high global impact. Methods: Community-based health workers were trained to deliver a psychosocial intervention for mothers with depression in a primary care setting. A total of 49 mothers and 60 children were assessed pre-intervention, post-intervention, and at 6 months follow-up. Child behavioral/emotional symptoms were evaluated according to type of change in maternal depressive symptoms: response or remission. Results: An overall decrease in maternal depressive symptoms from baseline to post-intervention and 6 months follow-up were found. Response or remission was associated with better outcomes in child behavioral/emotional symptoms at 6 months follow-up (p = 0.0247, Cohen’s d: 0.76; p = 0.0224, Cohen’s f: 0.44) but not at post-intervention (p = 0.1636, Cohen’s d: 0.48; p = 0.0720, Cohen’s f: 0.33). Conclusions: Improvement in maternal depression was related to decreased behavioral/emotional symptoms in their children. Our results suggest that providing interventions for maternal depression in primary care is a viable strategy to prevent behavioral/emotional symptoms in the next generation. Resumo Objetivos As estruturas capsulo-ligamentares do ombro funcionam como estabilizadores estáticos, juntamente com os músculos do bíceps e do manguito rotador, aumentando a superfície de contato da cavidade glenoide. Terminações nervosas livres e mecanorreceptores foram identificados no ombro; no entanto, existem alguns estudos que descrevem a presença desses nervos na inserção do bíceps. Este estudo teve como objetivo descrever a morfologia e distribuição de terminações nervosas utilizando imunofluorescência com protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) e microscopia confocal. Métodos Foram estudados seis complexos labrum-bíceps de seis cadáveres congelados frescos. Os espécimes foram cortados coronalmente e preparados pelo método de imunofluorescência. Tanto em hematoxilina e eosina (H&E) quanto em imunofluorescência, foi descrita a organização do tecido conjuntivo com fibras paralelas de colágeno. Resultados No estudo de H&E, foram visualizadas estruturas vasculares e algumas estruturas nervosas, que foram identificadas pela presença alongada da célula nervosa. Todas as amostras analisadas com imunofluorescência e microscopia confocal demonstraram baixa ocorrência de morfotipos de corpúsculos sensoriais e terminações nervosas livres. Identificamos terminações nervosas livres localizadas no labrum, inserção bicipital e terminações nervosas esparsas ao longo do tendão. Terminais corpusculares com aspecto fusiforme, cuneiforme e oval foram identificados no tendão. Conclusão Esses achados corroboram a hipótese de que a geração de dor nas lesões labrais superiores de anterior a posterior (SLAP, na sigla em inglês) deriva da parte mais proximal do cabo longo do bíceps e ainda mais do labrum superior. Estudos quantitativos futuros com um número maior de espécimes podem fornecer mais informações sobre esses sistemas sensoriais.

Abstract Objectives The capsuloligamentous structures of the shoulder work as static stabilizers, together with the biceps and rotator cuff muscles, increasing the contact surface of the glenoid cavity. Free nerve endings and mechanoreceptors have been identified in the shoulder; however, there are a few studies that describe the presence of these nerves in the biceps' insertion. The present study aimed to describe the morphology and distribution of nerve endings using immunofluorescence with protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) and confocal microscopy. Methods Six labrum-biceps complexes from six fresh-frozen cadavers were studied. The specimens were coronally cut and prepared using the immunofluorescence technique. In both hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and immunofluorescence, the organization of the connective tissue with parallel collagen fibers was described. Results In the H&E study, vascular structures and some nerve structures were visualized, which were identified by the elongated presence of the nerve cell. All specimens analyzed with immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy demonstrated poor occurrence of morphotypes of sensory corpuscles and free nerve endings. We identified free nerve endings located in the labrum and in the bicipital insertion, and sparse nerve endings along the tendon. Corpuscular endings with fusiform, cuneiform, and oval aspect were identified in the tendon. Conclusion These findings support the hypothesis that the generation of pain in the superior labral tear from Anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesions derives from the more proximal part of the long biceps cord and even more from the upper labrum. Future quantitative studies with a larger number of specimens may provide more information on these sensory systems.

RESUMO A cobertura do solo contribui para a manutenção do teor de água do solo em níveis razoáveis para o crescimento da cultura. E influi na demanda hídrica da cultura e tempo de irrigação. O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar a evapotranspiração e a absorção de água radicular pela cultivar de bananeira ‘BRS Princesa’ através de uma abordagem simples utilizando alguns componentes do balanço hídrico do solo na zona radicular em solo nu e mulched irrigado por gotejamento e microaspersão. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em parcelas subdivididas com seis repetições. As parcelas consistiram de dois sistemas de irrigação (gotejamento e microaspersão), as subparcelas consistiram de duas condições de superfície do solo: com e sem cobertura morta. A aproximação alternativa para a percolação da água no solo pelo balanço hídrico permitiu obter ETc em condições de campo com razoável precisão. A ETc estimada a partir do balanço hídrico da zona radicular é menor que a ETc da equação FAO Penman-Monteith. A extração da água do solo pelo sistema radicular sob irrigação por gotejamento e com cobertura de biomassa da bananeira é maior do que a absorção sob irrigação por microaspersão.

ABSTRACT DMulching contributes to the maintenance of soil moisture at reasonable levels for crop growth. It influences the crop water demand and irrigation time. The aim of this study was to estimate evapotranspiration and root water uptake by the ‘BRS Princesa’ banana cultivar through a simple approach using some components of soil water balance within the root zone in bare and mulched soil irrigated by drip and micro sprinkler systems. The experimental design was completely randomized in split plots with six replicates. The plots consisted of two irrigation systems (drip and micro sprinkler), the subplots consisted of two soil surface conditions: with and without mulch. The alternative approach for soil water percolation in the soil water balance allowed obtaining ETc under field condition with reasonable accuracy. ETc estimated from the root zone water balance is lower than ETc from FAO Penman-Monteith equation. Root water extraction in the mulched soil under drip irrigation is higher than that under micro sprinkler irrigation.
