Resumen. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la maduración gonadal, calidad de los huevos y larvas de hembras de Macrobrachium tenellum alimentadas con dietas con diferentes niveles de proteínas y lípidos, utilizando indicadores morfológicos y pruebas de estrés. Se capturaron reproductores de M. tenellum en el río Ameca, Jalisco-Nayarit. Se probaron ocho dietas experimentales con cuatro niveles de proteína (30, 35, 40 y 45% P) y dos niveles de lípidos (4 y 12% L), se evaluó la fecundidad (FC), esfuerzo reproductivo (ER), la tasa de eclosión (TE), índice gonadosomático (IGS), índice hepatosomático (IHS), y pruebas de estrés en larvas: supervivencia en inanición y tolerancia a salinidad alta (45 ups). Los resultados muestran que las interacciones entre proteínas y lípidos tienen efectos diferentes en la calidad de huevos y las pruebas de estrés en larvas. La dieta que presentó el promedio más alto en FC, ER y TE fue P30L12, a su vez, la dieta P30L4 obtuvo los promedios más bajos en dichos parámetros. Los IGS e IHS fueron independientes de los tratamientos dietarios y no se encontraron diferencias haciendo comparaciones entre ambos índices. La dieta P30L4 no es la mejor opción para reproductoras de la especie y se recomienda la dieta P35L4 ya que garantiza una calidad de huevos y larvas similar a la mayoría de las dietas evaluadas.

Abstract. This work aimed to determine the gonadal maturation, egg and larval quality of Macrobrachium tenellum females fed diets with different protein and lipid levels, using morphological indicators and stress tests. M. tenellum broodstock were captured in the Ameca River, Jalisco-Nayarit. Eight experimental diets with four protein levels (30, 35, 40 and 45% P) and two lipid levels (4 and 12% L) were tested. Fecundity (FC), reproductive effort (RE), hatching rate (HT), Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), Hepatosomatic Index (HSI), and larval tests: starvation survival and tolerance to high salinity (45 psu), were evaluated. The results show that protein-lipid interactions have different effects on egg quality and larval stress tests. The diet with the highest mean in FC, RE and HT was P30L12, while the P30L4 diet obtained the lowest averages in these parameters. The GSI and HSI were independent of the dietary treatments and no differences were found when comparing the two indexes. The present study showed that the P30L4 diet is not the best option for broodstock of the species and the P35L4 diet is recommended since it guarantees egg and larval quality similar to most of the diets evaluated.

Resumen El artículo analiza los efectos del gasto social y sus componentes desagregados sobre la distribución del ingreso en México usando un panel de las 32 entidades federativas. Se especifica un modelo de determinantes que explica el comportamiento del coeficiente de Gini en términos del gasto social, la pobreza y el crecimiento del país. Se estima un panel dinámico en la modalidad Arellano-Bond para el periodo 2008-2020 y se identifica que los gastos públicos en educación y salud poseen importantes efectos en la reducción de la desigualdad más allá de los efectos de las transferencias condicionadas y del gasto en servicios básicos.

Abstract We analyze the effects of social expenditure components on income distribution in Mexico using a panel of the 32 states. A model of determinants is specified to explains the Gini coefficient behavior by means of social spending, poverty, and growth. We use a dynamic panel and the Arellano-Bond estimator for the period 2008-2020 and show that public expenditures on education and health have effects on reducing inequality that are greater than the effects of conditional transfers and spending on basic services.

Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to evaluate the measurement invariance of a general measure of the perception of governmental responses to COVID-|19 (COVID-SCORE-10) in the general population of 13 Latin American countries. Methods A total of 5780 individuals from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries selected by non-probabilistic snowball sampling participated. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed and the alignment method was used to evaluate invariance. Additionally, a graded response model was used for the assessment of item characteristics. Results The results indicate that there is approximate measurement invariance of the COVID-SCORE-10 among the participating countries. Furthermore, IRT results suggest that the COVID-SCORE-10 measures with good psychometric ability a broad spectrum of the construct assessed, especially around average levels. Comparison of COVID-SCORE-10 scores indicated that participants from Cuba, Uruguay and El Salvador had the most positive perceptions of government actions to address the pandemic. Thus, the underlying construct of perception of government actions was equivalent in all countries. Conclusion The results show the importance of initially establishing the fundamental measurement properties and MI before inferring the cross-cultural universality of the construct to be measured.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the vegetative growth, yield, fruit quality, and survival of purple passion fruit grafted onto a rootstock tolerant to fusarium wilt in an area with a history of this disease. The treatments were the combination of three elite accessions of purple passion fruit (PutEdu01, TesEdu11, and a commercial accession as the control) and three rootstocks (ungrafted, autografted, and grafted onto Passiflora maliformis). TesEdu11 grafted onto P. maliformis shows the highest estimated yield at 307 days after transplanting in areas with fusarium wilt incidence.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desenvolvimento vegetativo, a produção, a qualidade do fruto e a sobrevivência do maracujá-roxo enxertado em um porta-enxerto tolerante à fusariose, em uma área com histórico de ocorrência da doença. Os tratamentos foram combinações de três acessos elite de maracujá-roxo (PutEdu01, TesEdu11 e um acesso comercial como controle) e três porta-enxertos (pé-franco, autoenxerto e enxerto em Passiflora maliformis). TesEdu11 enxertada em P. maliformis apresenta a maior produção estimada aos 307 dias após transplante em áreas com incidência de fusariose.

Resumen: Un pez nativo cada vez más estudiado en Latinoamérica es el Dormitator latifrons, pero se desconoce el efecto de altas densidades de siembra en su fisiología. El objetivo fue determinar el efecto de diferentes densidades de siembra en el crecimiento y parámetros sanguíneos. Se utilizaron organismos silvestres aclimatados al cautiverio, alimentados al 4% de biomasa total durante 60 días. Se registró peso y longitud inicial y final, determinando índices de crecimiento y supervivencia. Al final del experimento se tomó una muestra de sangre al total de organismos para evaluar parámetros sanguíneos No se encontraron diferencias en el crecimiento y supervivencia entre las diferentes densidades. Los parámetros sanguíneos no fueron afectados por la densidad, a excepción del estallido respiratorio, todos se encuentran entre los rangos de referencia de buena salud para peces. La especie no presentó señales de estrés o respuesta inmune adversa asociada al incremento de la densidad de cultivo.

Abstract: The native fish Dormitator latifrons culture technology in Latin America has increased, but the effect of high stocking densities on the physiology of the species is still unknown. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of different stocking densities on growth and blood parameters. Wild organisms were acclimatized to culture conditions, and fed daily at 4% of total biomass, during 60 days. The weight and length of the organisms were recorded at the beginning and end of the experiment, growth and survival rates were determined. At the end of the experiment, a blood sample was taken from all fish for blood parameters evaluation. No differences in growth and survival were found between the different densities tested. Blood parameters were not affected by stocking density. All blood parameters are within the reference ranges indicating good fish health, except respiratory burst. The fish did not show signs of stress or any negative immune response at all culture densities tested.

RESUMEN Para aumentar la disponibilidad de nutrientes y mejorar la productividad de los cultivos, se introducen fertilizantes químicos en el suelo, aunque la fijación biológica de nitrógeno contribuye globalmente con 180 millones de toneladas métricas de amoníaco al año, lo que es comparable al aporte actual de nitrógeno antropogénico. De esta forma, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de la interacción de Azospyrillum brasilense y Bradyrhizobium japonicum con diferentes niveles de nitrógeno sobre el rendimiento y la viabilidad económica del cultivo de tomate. Se utilizó un diseño experimental de parcelas divididas, siendo la dosis de fertilización nitrogenada la parcela mayor (100% de la dosis, 50% de la dosis y 0% de la dosis) y la parcela menor con bacterias fijadoras de nitrógeno (100 cc ha-1, 200 cc ha-1, 300 cc ha-1) con cuatro bloques internos aleatorios y cinco plantas como unidad experimental. Las variables evaluadas fueron: producción por planta, rendimiento/ha, número de frutos/planta y peso promedio de fruto. Finalmente, se realizó el análisis económico según la combinación de los tratamientos. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que la mezcla de bacterias fijadoras de nitrógeno (BFN) (Azospyrillum brasilense y Bradyrhizobium japonicum) a una dosis de 100 cc ha-1, incrementó significativamente la producción de tomate cuando no se aplicó nitrógeno (urea). La aplicación de BFN en combinación con niveles adecuados de nitrógeno favorece la sostenibilidad del tomate.

ABSTRACT To increase the availability of nutrients and improve crop productivity, chemical fertilizers are introduced to the soil, although the biological fixation of nitrogen contributes globally with 180 million metric tons of ammonia per year, which is comparable to current contribution of anthropogenic nitrogen. In this way, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the interaction of Azospyrillum brasilense and Bradyrhizobium japonicum with different levels of nitrogen on the yield and economic viability of the tomato crop. An experimental design of divided plots was used, with the nitrogen fertilization dose being the largest plot (100% of the dose, 50% of the dose and 0% of the dose) and the minor plot of nitrogen-fixing bacteria (100 cc ha-1, 200 cc ha-1, 300 cc ha-1) with four random internal blocks and five plants as experimental unit. The variables evaluated were: production per plant, yield/ha, number of fruits/plant and average fruit weight. Finally, the economic analysis was performed according to the combination of the treatments. The results obtained showed that the mixture of nitrogen-fixing bacteria (BFN) (Azospyrillum brasilense and Bradyrhizobium japonicum) at a dose of 100 cc ha-1, significantly increased tomato production when nitrogen (urea) was not applied. The application of BFN in combination with adequate levels of nitrogen favors the sustainability of the tomato.

ABSTRACT Introduction: HIV is considered one of the pandemics currently scourging humanity. In this respect, sexuality education is a responsibility of the whole society. In Cuba, risk perception and knowledge of medical science students about this condition have been poorly studied. Objective: To determine the risk perception and knowledge of dental students about HIV infection. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted from September to November 2019 at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. The work was carried out with 157 students of the dental medicine major, who were applied the HIV/AIDS-65 scale, which consisted of 65 items and was divided into seven subscales. The data were processed and shown in tables, using descriptive statistics. Results: 46.50 % of the students considered it false that HIV/AIDS was a life-threatening disease and 19.75 % believed that too much time, money and other resources were being invested in this disease in comparison with other diseases. 68.15 % of the students referred that sex was not as pleasurable when a condom was used, while 60.51 % of the respondents did not consider themselves the type of person who could contract the AIDS virus (susceptibility). Conclusions: Students have an adequate level of knowledge, despite misconceptions, negative attitudes and practices, which potentiate the risk of infection.

RESUMEN Introducción: El VIH se considera una de las pandemias que azota actualmente la humanidad. En este sentido, la educación de la sexualidad constituye una responsabilidad de toda la sociedad. En Cuba han sido pobremente estudiados la percepción de riesgo y los conocimientos de los estudiantes de ciencias médicas sobre esta afección. Objetivo: Determinar la percepción de riesgo y los conocimientos de estudiantes de la carrera de Estomatología sobre la infección por VIH. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal desde septiembre hasta noviembre de 2019 en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana. Se trabajó con 157 estudiantes de la carrera de Estomatología, a los cuales se les aplicó la escala VIH/sida-65, que constó de 65 ítems y se dividió en siete subescalas. Los datos fueron procesados y se mostraron en tablas, mediante la estadística descriptiva. Resultados: El 46,50 % de los estudiantes consideró falso que el VIH/sida fuera una enfermedad que amenazara la vida de las personas y el 19,75 % creyó que se estaba invirtiendo en esta enfermedad demasiado tiempo, dinero y otros recursos en comparación con otras enfermedades. El 68,15 % de los estudiantes refirió que el sexo no era tan placentero cuando se usaba condón y un 60,51 % de los encuestados no se consideró el tipo de persona que pudiera contraer el virus del sida (susceptibilidad). Conclusiones: Los estudiantes tienen un nivel de conocimientos adecuado, a pesar de ideas erróneas, actitudes y prácticas negativas, que potencian el riesgo de infección.

ABSTRACT The inclusion of more sustainable alternatives such as bacterial inoculants is a viable option for the competitiveness of vegetable crops in tropical countries such as Colombia. The economic feasibility of a bacterial suspension of G. diazotrophicus applied to the carrot crop was determined. The native isolate G. diazotrophicus GIBI029 was evaluated and the strain ATCC 49037 was used as a control. The experiment was installed in a subdivided plot design, where the plot was the bacterium G. diazotrophicus (ATCC49037 and GIBI029. The subplot was the concentration of G. diazotrophicus (88×106 CFU/mL and 18×107 CFU/mL) and, in it, the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus (0% and 100% nitrogen and phosphorus) were assorted. The average weight of the carrot (g) and the yield by quality of the consuming organ (kg/ha) were evaluated. Through the production cycle, fixed, variable, and total costs were calculated. Benefit / cost ratios higher than 1.46 and net income up to US$ 10,817/ha were achieved. It is possible to efficiently and economically use the native isolate G. diazotrophicus GIBI029 in the search for more sustainable and competitive cultural practices.

Abstract The relationship of body weight and length with sperm load and spermatophore weight was evaluated in wild males of Macrobrachium tenellum (Smith, 1871). In addition, the influence of a commercial and natural feed on the load and viability of sperm was determined in wild males. In 28 wild males spermatophore extraction was performed by electrostimulation 24 h after capture to analyze the relationship between body length/weight and sperm load and viability, respectively. Spermatophore weight (SW), total number (TS), dead (DS) and abnormal sperm cells (AS) were used as indicators of sperm viability. The results obtained show that there is a positive correlation between TS per spermatophore compared to body length and weight of the male. To study the effect of different diets on sperm load, three diets were employed: Diet A, commercial shrimp feed; Diet B, natural feed (mixture of squid, sardine and clam); and Diet C, combination of natural and commercial diet. To assess the initial reproductive status of the males at the beginning of the experiment, sperm viability was determined in a subsample of specimens after capture. Broodstock were fed ad libitum once a day during 70 days. TS, DS, AS and SW were evaluated. The results of the bioassay did not show differences between treatments in the parameters analyzed, except DS, which was higher in the initial group. In conclusion, the present work suggests that it is feasible to substitute fresh feed for an artificial diet for the maintenance in captivity of male M. tenellum broodstock shrimp.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to determine the influence of Passiflora maliformis as rootstock on the physical characteristics of fruits, productivity, and profitability of the purple passion fruit. The study was carried out from May 2020 to April 2021, under a 3 × 3 factorial design distributed in blocks with three repetitions. The treatments were represented by three scions of elite accessions of purple passion fruit PutEdu01, TesEdu11 and a commercial scion, and three rootstocks, ungrafted, autografted and P. maliformis. Conventional cleft grafting was used. The fresh fruit mass, the shell weight, the pulp weight, the fruit diameter, the polar diameter of the fruit, the percentage of pulp and skin were evaluated. As economic variables, production costs, income, and their cost benefit ratio were determined. The quality of the fruits derived from the grafted accessions in P. maliformis was within the fresh marketing standards, presenting a pulp yield of more than 50%. The combinations of the purple passion fruit TesEdu11 accessions and the commercial one grafted onto P. maliformis as the elite accession PutEdu01 without grafting were financially attractive because they presented a cost-benefit ratio greater than one at two years after starting the crop.

Resumo Objetivou-se documentar e analisar o efeito do clima no desenvolvimento feno-lógico do abacateiro ‘Hass’ em duas zonas contrastantes dos trópicos andinos de Caldas, localizadas a 1.950m e 2.400m respectivamente. Um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado foi implantado usando uma árvore ‘Hass’ de cinco a sete anos como unidade experimental e 15 repetições em cada área. As observações foram realizadas em brotos silépticos laterais e suas gemas apicais correspondentes localizadas no lado leste e oeste de cada árvore. O destino da gema apical das brotações laterais foi quantificado, a fenologia floral foi documentada, as unidades de calor foram calculadas desde o estágio 1 da gema reprodutiva até a antese e até a colheita e o crescimento radicular foi acompanhado para cada área de estudo. Valores de temperatura do ar, temperatura do solo, precipitação e radiação fotossinteticamente ativa (PAR) foram registrados ao longo do tempo. Foram encontradas diferenças no número de gemas apicais de brotações laterais com destino reprodutivo e vegetativo, fenologia de floração, unidades de calor, crescimento radicular, PAR e precipitação. Foram encontradas diferenças entre as variáveis avaliadas nas duas altitudes contrastantes. Há uma clara necessidade de mais estudos ecofisiológicos sobre está frutífera em áreas tropicais em particular.

Abstract The objective of this study was to document and analyze the effect of climate on the phenological development of ‘Hass’ avocado in two contrasting zones of the Andean tropics of Caldas, located at altitudes of 1,950m and 2,400m a.s.l., respectively. A completely randomized experimental design was carried out using a five to seven year-old ‘Hass’ tree as experimental unit and 15 replicates on each area. Observations were conducted on lateral sylleptic shoots and their corresponding apical buds located on the eastern and western sides of each tree. The destination of the apical bud of lateral shoots was quantified, floral phenology was documented, heat units were calculated from reproductive bud stage 1 to anthesis and to harvest and root growth was followed for each study area. Air temperature, soil temperature, precipitation and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) values were recorded over time. Differences were found in the number of apical buds of lateral shoots with reproductive and vegetative destination, flowering phenology, heat units, root growth, PAR and precipitation. Differences were found among variables evaluated at the two contrasting altitudes. There is a clear need for further ecophysiological studies on this fruit tree in tropical areas in particular.

Abstract: There is a large population in Mexico with cirrhosis, which is among the first causes of death in our country. Patients with liver disease can be classified as compensated or decompensated, but there is a small portion of patients with liver disease to whom an insult added to their disease will lead them to a state of multiple organ failure, regardless of the reason for cirrhosis or its stage. This evolution that differs from those already known, is known as acute on chronic liver failure and is a newly described pathology. The importance of knowing this pathology is the prognosis and the management for the correct evolution of this type of patient. Materials and methods: A search was conducted on PubMed, Scholar Google, and the journal of Internal Medicine of Mexico, between 1995-2020. The main search terms were “cirrosis”, OR “descompensación hepática”, OR “insuficiencia hepática aguda sobre crónica”, OR “síndrome hepatorrenal”, OR “decompensated cirrhosis”, OR “acute on chronic liver failure”, OR “hepatorenal syndrome”. Additional items were identified by internet research.

Resumen: Existe una gran población en México con cirrosis, la cual forma parte de las primeras causas de muerte en nuestro país. A los pacientes con hepatopatía se les puede clasificar como compensados o descompensados, además existe una pequeña porción de hepatópatas donde un insulto sobre su cirrosis los llevará a un estado de falla orgánica múltiple, sin importar la razón de la cirrosis o de su estadio. Esta evolución que difiere a las ya conocidas se le conoce como insuficiencia hepática aguda sobre crónica. La importancia de conocer esta patología es el pronóstico y los medios necesarios para la correcta evolución de este tipo de pacientes. Material y métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda en PubMed, Scholar Google y en archivos de la revista de Medicina Interna de México, entre 1995-2020. Los principales términos de búsqueda fueron “cirrosis”, OR “descompensación hepática”, OR “insuficiencia hepática aguda sobre crónica”, OR “síndrome hepatorrenal”, OR “decompensated cirrhosis”, OR “acute on chronic liver failure”, OR “hepatorenal syndrome”. Artículos adicionales fueron identificados mediante su búsqueda en Internet.

Reintervention of a mitral degenerated bioprosthesis has a high surgical risk, especially in elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. We report a 74 years old female with two previous cardiac surgical procedures and a new structural mitral bioprosthesis deterioration with severe mitral regurgitation. Considering her high-surgical risk, a fully percutaneous treatment was performed with a balloon-expandable aortic valve in mitral position (valve-in-valve) through a transseptal approach with a favorable outcome. This technique is an attractive and effective option with a relatively low rate of complications that could solve this challenging and complex disease.

RESUMO: A Colômbia é o quarto produtor e o terceiro em termos de área colhida, com uma participação de 6% da área mundial. O desenvolvimento e a promoção desta linha produtiva representam para a Colômbia uma importante fonte de crescimento na agricultura, para a geração de emprego e desenvolvimento rural com equidade para as diferentes regiões do país, devido à diversidade de pisos térmicos e às diferentes variedades plantadas. As importações deste produto diminuíram 96% nos últimos quatro anos, passando de 3128 toneladas em 2014 para 133 toneladas em 2017. Nos últimos anos, os projetos desenvolvidos no setor de abacate colombiano têm como objetivo o mercado externo devido à lucratividade desta fruta por sua demanda com a variedade Hass. Além disso, há um esforço estatal para implementar planos para regiões livres de pragas de quarentena que permitem o acesso a mercados estrangeiros. Dessa forma, constitui uma proposta estratégica composta por um conjunto coerente de objetivos, estratégias e programas que, com base em uma visão de futuro, buscam o objetivo inicial de duplicar a área de produção, garantindo condições tecnológicas e de inovação com alcance total nos mercados internacionais. Esta revisão tem como objetivo conhecer os principais desenvolvimentos da produção de abacate na Colômbia, seus desafios e oportunidades para a próxima década.

ABSTRACT: Colombia is the fourth largest avocado producer globally and the third largest in terms of harvested area, with a 6% share of the world area. The development and promotion of this production line represents an important source of growth in agriculture for Colombia, due to the generation of rural employment, equitable development across the different regions of the country, and due to the diversity of thermal floors and the different varieties planted. Imports of this product have decreased by 96% in the last four years from 3128 tons in 2014 to 133 tons in 2017. In recent years, the projects developed in the Colombian avocado sector have been aimed at the foreign market due to the profitability and demand of the Hass variety of this fruit. In addition, there is a state effort to implement plans for regions free of quarantine pests that allow access to foreign markets. This constitutes a strategic proposal made up of a coherent set of objectives, strategies and programmes which, based on a vision of the future, seek the initial goal of doubling the area of production. That move would ensure the technological and innovative conditions for sustainable and quality production, as well as achieve full links in international markets. This review aimed to know the main developments of avocado production in Colombia, its challenges and opportunities for the next decade.

Abstract Understanding the upstream migration of amphidromous prawns is important to address the impact of anthropomorphic activities in natural freshwater ecosystems. The ability of Macrobrachium tenellum (Smith, 1871) juveniles to overcome an artificial barrier was evaluated, simulating an obstacle in their upstream migration, under an experimental laboratory system. The prawns were collected from a stream located in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (N = 1000). An experimental recirculation system was used, which consisted of a tank with a capacity of 600 L, a sheet of galvanized steel that acted as an anthropogenic barrier and two submersible electric pumps with flows of 0.12 L/s and 0.40 L/s. In this system, two inclinations of the barrier were tested, 45° and 90° in combination with the two flows. The results show that there are significant differences between the treatments with different inclinations, where a higher stimulation response was observed at the 90° angle. Within this inclination, the flow of 0.40 L/s produced the highest stimulation to climb the barrier in prawns between 30 and 60 mm in length. This study demonstrates the direct relationship between the slope and the effect of water flow of the anthropogenic barriers that hinder the migration process of M. tenellum.
