Abstract Introduction Tinnitus is a conscious perception of a sound resulting from abnormal activity within the nervous system. A relevant percentage of tinnitus patients report symptoms severe enough to significantly affect quality of life, including sleep disorders. Objectives To analyze the sleep quality, insomnia, daytime sleepiness, and risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in participants with tinnitus. Methods The sample comprised 18 adults and older adults aged between 18 and 85 years old (mean age = 58.7 ± 17.5 years old), females and males, with complaint of continuous tinnitus for > 1 month. The instruments used were the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) questionnaire, the Insomnia Severity Index, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the STOP-Bang questionnaire. Results By means of the THI questionnaire, the tinnitus severity degree reported by most participants was mild (27.8%) and moderate (27.8%), having a positive (r = 0.582) and significant (0.011) correlation to sleep quality, measured by means of the Pittsburgh questionnaire. There was a positive correlation between the Insomnia Severity Index and tinnitus handicap (r = 0.499; p = 0.035). A total of 72.2% of the participants self-assessed their sleep quality as poor, in addition to moderate insomnia (27.8%), although there is low risk of OSA (66.7%), without complaints of excessive daytime sleepiness (72.2%). Conclusion Subjects with tinnitus complaint self-rated their sleep quality as poor. Moreover, the higher the reported tinnitus handicap, the greater the symptoms of insomnia. There was no influence of tinnitus in relation to daytime sleepiness and no relationship between the severity of tinnitus and the risk of OSA.

RESUMO Objetivos: Validar a versão em português do Catquest-9SF através de sua aplicação em uma população nativa do Brasil com catarata e determinar a correlação da pontuação obtida no questionário com a acuidade visual pré-operatória. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo prospectivo para validação de questionário. O Catquest-9SF foi traduzido e retro traduzido gerando uma versão final em português. Um total de 120 pacientes brasileiros que aguardavam realização de cirurgia de catarata foram recrutados para responder ao questionário e para documentação de dados pré-operatórios e acuidade visual. Análise Rasch foi utilizada para acessar as propriedades psicométricas do instrumento. Resultados: A versão em português do Catquest-9SF demonstrou ajuste aceitável dos itens (item fit statistics variando entre 0,7 e 1,3), unidimensionalidade (Principal Component Analisis) e boa organização nas categorias de resposta dos itens (limiares das categorias: -2,79; 0,57; 2,22). O questionário contém itens com relação estável, se considerado um mesmo nível de deficiência visual, na comparação entre dois grupos (ausência de differential item functioning). Existe adequada separação de pessoas (Person Separation Index 3,07). A acuidade visual em LogMAR no melhor olho com melhor correção óptica mostrou correlação estatisticamente significativa com a pontuação em logit do Catquest-9SF (r=0,282 e p=0,004). Conclusões: A versão em português do Catquest-9SF apresenta evidência de validade e confiabilidade, além de ser linguística e culturalmente compreensível para pacientes de língua portuguesa naturais do Brasil. Trata-se de questionário de fácil entendimento e rápida aplicação, sendo capaz de estimar de maneira adequada o funcionamento visual subjetivo em pacientes com catarata. Existe correlação significativa com a acuidade visual e a pontuação obtida no questionário.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The aim of this study was to validate the Portuguese version of Catquest-9SF through its application in a native Brazilian population with cataracts and to determine the correlation of the questionnaire scores with preoperative visual acuity. Methods: A prospective study was conducted to validate the Catquest-9SF questionnaire, which was translated and back-translated, generating a final version in Portuguese. A total of 120 Brazilian patients awaiting cataract surgery were recruited to answer the questionnaire and to document their preoperative data and visual acuity. The Rasch analysis was used to assess the instrument’s psychometric properties. Results: The Portuguese version of Catquest-9SF demonstrated an acceptable adjustment of the items (item fit statistics ranging from 0.7 to 1.3), unidimensionality (principal component analysis), and good organization in the item response categories (thresholds of the categories: -2.79, 0.57, and 2.22, respectively). The questionnaire contains items with stable relationships if considered at the same level of visual impairment in the comparison between the two groups (absence of differential item functioning). The separation of people (person separation index, 3.07) was adequate. The visual acuity in the logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) in the best eye with the best optical correction showed a statistically significant correlation with the Catquest-9SF logit score (r=0.282 and p=0.004). Conclusions: The Portuguese version of Catquest-9SF presents evidence of validity and reliability, in addition to being linguistically and culturally understandable for Portuguese-speaking patients born in Brazil. The questionnaire is easy to understand and quick to apply, as it could adequately estimate the subjective visual functioning in patients with cataracts. We found a significant correlation between visual acuity and the questionnaire score.

ABSTRACT The contamination of aquatic environments by microplastic has become a major threat to biodiversity. The presence of microplastic is documented in the aquatic fauna of the oceans, but, in the Amazon basin, reports on microplastic occurrence are few. The present study surveyed microplastic occurrence in fishes in an area of the Peruvian Amazon. We sampled 61 specimens of 15 commercial species from local markets in the city of Iquitos, Loreto Department. We detected a total of 2337 microplastic particles, 1096 in the gills and 1241 in the internal organs (esophagus, stomach, intestine, liver, gonads, pancreas, swim bladder and heart). The prevalence of microplastic particles was 100% and the overall average abundance was of 38.3 particles per individual (17.9 particles per individual in gills and 20.3 particles per individual in internal organs). Most particles were found in carnivorous fish. There was no correlation of particle abundance with fish standard length and weight. These results provided evidence of the degree of microplastic contamination of the fish fauna in the region of Iquitos.

RESUMEN La contaminación de ambientes acuáticos por microplásticos se ha convertido en una gran amenaza para la biodiversidad. La presencia de microplásticos está bien documentada en la fauna acuática de los océanos, pero en la cuenca del Amazonas hay pocos reportes de ocurrencia. En este trabajo se investigó la ocurrencia de partículas de microplásticos en peces de un área de la Amazonía peruana. Se obtuvieron 61 especímenes de 15 especies comerciales provenientes de los mercados locales de la ciudad de Iquitos. Se detectó un total de 2337 partículas de microplástico, 1096 en las branquias y 1241 en los órganos internos (esófago, estomago, intestinos, hígado, gónadas, páncreas, vejiga natatoria y corazón). La prevalencia de partículas de microplástico fue del 100% y la abundancia general de partículas de microplástico fue de 38.3 partículas por individuo (17.9 partículas por individuo en las branquias y 20.3 partículas por individuo en los órganos internos). La mayor cantidad de particulas fué encontrada en peces carnivoros. No hubo correlación entre la abundancia de las particulas y el tamaño estandar y peso de los peces. Estos resultados proporcionan evidencia de los niveles de contaminación por microplásticos en la fauna de peces amazónica en la región de Iquitos.

Abstract: The Brazilian National System of Controlled Product Management (SNGPC) stores data on the dispensing of manufactured and compounded drugs and pharmaceutical inputs, whether controlled and antimicrobial, based on the records of private pharmacies and drugstores. This study assessed the quality of SNGPC data from the dispensing records of manufactured antibiotics, aiming to propose their use in drug utilization researchs (DURs), with a descriptive and retrospective design, analyzing the raw dataset of the SNGPC from January 2014 to December 2020. A total of 475,805,207 drug-dispensing records were collected. On average, antibiotics corresponded to 54.5% of the total records. The quality dimension “unreported” was systematically identified in the variables “active ingredient”, “sex”, “age” and “ICD-10”. The amount of vials/bottles and packages ranged from one to 536 units and the amount of pharmaceutical inputs dispensed, from one to 7,500 units. Results show that 25% of the records exceed an individual therapy and the SNGPC has no critical mechanism to avoid dispensations outside the therapeutic standard for the class. Despite vulnerabilities due to data quality, which can be overcome, the SNGPC allows for the construction of different analytical plans, involving time and other aggregations, in the analysis of community use of antimicrobials and controlled drugs, which makes it a powerful source of data for DUR.

Resumen: El Sistema Nacional de Gestión de Productos Controlados (SNGPC) almacena datos sobre la dispensación de medicamentos industrializados, manipulados, insumos farmacéuticos bajo control especial y de antimicrobianos con base en los registros de farmacias y de boticas privadas. Este trabajo analizó la calidad de los datos ingresados en el SNGPC relacionados a los registros de la dispensación de antibióticos industrializados, para proponer su posible aplicación en estudios sobre el uso de medicamentos (DUR); para ello, realizó un análisis descriptivo y retrospectivo del conjunto de datos brutos para el periodo de enero de 2014 a diciembre de 2020. Se recogieron un total de 475.805.207 registros de dispensación de medicamentos. Los antibióticos correspondieron en promedio al 54,5% del total de los registros. La dimensión de calidad “no informado” se identificó sistemáticamente en las variables “principio activo”, “sexo”, “edad” y “CIE-10”. Las cantidades de viales y cajas oscilaron entre 1 y 536 unidades, y las cantidades de formas farmacéuticas dispensadas entre 1 y 7.500 unidades. Los resultados muestran que el 25% de los registros exceden una terapia individual y que el sistema no tiene un mecanismo crítico para evitar la dispensación que no se ajusta al patrón terapéutico de la clase. A pesar de las vulnerabilidades derivadas de la calidad de los datos, que pueden ser superadas, el SNGPC permite la construcción de diferentes planes analíticos, involucrando tiempo y otras agregaciones, en la investigación del uso comunitario de antimicrobianos y medicamentos bajo control especial, lo que hace que el Sistema sea una potente fuente de datos para DUR.

ABSTRACT This research proposes as an objective to explore the particularities of the discourse of teacher identity in the professional life stories of professors who lived in active labor or as pedagogy students, the Chilean dictatorial period (1973-1990). For the analysis, Greimas’ actantial scheme was used as a methodological tool to address the narrative structure that shows the forces and actants that mobilize professional stories. The review made it possible to visualize a high similarity between the reports. The relevance of the political militancy of teachers and the search for recognition in their stories stand out in the analysis.

RESUMO Esta investigação propõe como objetivo explorar as particularidades do discurso da identidade docente em histórias de vida profissional de professores e professores que vivem laboralmente ativos ou como estudantes de pedagogia, o período ditatorial (1973-1990) no Chile. Para a análise, o esquema financeiro de Greimas foi utilizado como uma ferramenta metodológica para abordar a narrativa estrutural que evidencia as forças e atores que movem as histórias profissionais. A revisão permitiu visualizar um alto grau de similaridade entre as histórias. A relevância da militância política dos professores e a busca de reconhecimento em suas histórias se destacam na análise.

RESUMEN Esta investigación propone como objetivo explorar las particularidades del discurso de la identidad docente en historias de vida profesional de profesoras y profesores que vivieron laboralmente activos o como estudiantes de pedagogía, el periodo dictatorial (1973-1990) en Chile. Para el análisis se utilizó el esquema actancial de Greimas como herramienta metodológica, para abordar la estructura narrativa que evidencia las fuerzas y actantes que movilizan las historias profesionales. La revisión permitió visibilizar una alta similitud entre los relatos. Destacan en el análisis la relevancia de la militancia política del profesorado y la búsqueda de reconocimiento en sus historias.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To identify lifestyle-related, sociodemographic, and mental health characteristics of people with insomnia symptoms and people without insomnia during the pandemic. METHODS A case-control study was conducted with data collected by snowball sampling using an online questionnaire. From November 2020 to April 2021, 6,360 people with a mean age of 43.5 years (SD = 14.3) participated in the survey. For this study, we considered 158 cases of insomnia disorder and 476 controls (three controls per case) randomly selected from the participants without sleep problems. RESULTS The results of the comparative analysis between cases and controls showed that sleeping less than six hours daily (OR = 3.89; 95%CI 2.50–6.05), feeling sadness frequently (OR = 2.95; 95%CI 1.69–5.17), residing in metropolitan areas (OR = 1.71; 95%CI 1.04–2.84), being 40 years or older (OR = 1.93; 95%CI 1.22–3.06), and the interaction between occupation and poorer education (OR = 2.12; 95%CI 1.22–3.69) were predictors for symptoms of insomnia disorder during the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS In addition to confirming the hypothesis that mental health problems are associated with insomnia symptoms, the results point to insomnia as an important outcome for studies on the effects of unemployment, vulnerability and low education of the population, especially in large cities, highlighting that the effects of the crisis on health and the economy are extremely unequally distributed.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Identificar características relacionadas ao estilo de vida, sociodemográficas e saúde mental de pessoas com sintomas de insônia e pessoas sem insônia durante a pandemia. MÉTODOS A partir de dados coletados por amostragem em bola de neve, por meio de um questionário online foi realizado um estudo caso-controle. Durante o período de novembro de 2020 a abril de 2021, 6.360 pessoas com idade média de 43,5 anos (DP = 14,3) participaram da pesquisa. No presente estudo, foram considerados 158 casos de transtorno de insônia e 476 controles (três controles por caso) selecionados aleatoriamente dentre os participantes sem problemas de sono. RESULTADOS Os resultados da análise comparativa entre casos e controles mostraram que dormir menos de seis horas diárias (OR = 3,89; IC95% 2,50–6,05), sentir tristeza frequentemente (OR = 2,95; IC95% 1,69–5,17), residir em metrópoles (OR = 1,71; IC95% 1,04–2,84), estar com 40 anos ou mais (OR = 1,93; IC95% 1,22–3,06) e a interação entre ocupação e escolaridade mais precária (OR = 2,12; IC95% 1,22–3,69) foram fatores preditores para sintomas de transtorno de insônia durante a pandemia. CONCLUSÕES Além da confirmação da hipótese de que problemas de saúde mental estão associados a sintomas de insônia, os resultados apontam para a insônia como um desfecho importante para estudos sobre efeitos do desemprego, vulnerabilidade e baixa escolaridade da população, sobretudo nas grandes metrópoles, ressaltando que os efeitos da crise sobre a saúde e a economia são distribuídos de forma extremamente desiguais.

ABSTRACT. Wooden breast myopathy (WB) strongly affects the poultry industry mainly in terms of consumers rejection and economical loses, due to morphological changes in broiler muscle tissue and consequently low meat quality. The aim of this study is to evaluate the histomorphometry of muscle fibers of breast fillets of broilers with severity levels of WB myopathy. The histological evaluation considered 30 samples of the pectoralis major muscle and the level of WB myopathy (ten normal fillets, ten moderate fillets, and ten severe fillets). Fillets with a severe level of WB present low average fiber number, high average fiber diameter, low percentage of fibers with diameter of less than 20 µm, low percentage of fibers with diameter between 20 and 40 µm, and high percentage of fibers with diameter between 40 and 70 µm. Fiber cross-sectional area is greater in fillets affected by moderate and severe WB. Thus, fillets with a severe level of WB damage the muscle fiber structure and contribute more severely to the degenerative processes of breast meat.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the energy values and metabolizability of different lipid sources in the diet of Japanese quail at the laying phase. The quail were distributed in a completely randomized design with ten replications of seven poultry per treatment, totaling six treatments: basal feed (control) and basal feed containing 10% soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, and poultry fat. The values of nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) and the metabolizability coefficient (MC%) were evaluated. No significant difference was found between the different lipid sources for AMEn (kcal/kg) and MC (%). The value of metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen for soybean oil was 8,790 kcal/kg; 8,773 kcal/kg for corn oil; 8,784 kcal/kg for canola oil; 8,788 kcal/kg for sunflower oil; and 8,681 kcal/kg for poultry fat in laying Japanese quail. The digestibility coefficients were 93.88% for soybean oil, 93.53% for corn oil, 93.32% for canola oil, 93.74% for sunflower oil, and 93.06% for poultry fat.

RESUMO Objetivo: Estimar a tendência temporal das taxas de incidência de acidentes com animais peçonhentos em crianças e adolescentes no Brasil. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo ecológico de séries temporais, entre 2007 e 2019. Os dados foram obtidos do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN). As séries temporais das taxas de incidência com animais peçonhentos foram estratificadas por faixa etária (crianças de 0 a 9 anos e adolescentes de 10 a 19 anos), macrorregiões brasileiras (Norte, Nordeste, Centro-Oeste, Sudeste e Sul) e tipo de acidente (serpente, escorpião, aranha e lagarta). Para análise de tendência, foi utilizado o modelo de Prais-Winsten e calculada a variação percentual anual das taxas (Annual Percentage Change — APC). Resultados: As séries históricas da taxa de incidência de acidentes com animais peçonhentos em crianças e adolescentes das macrorregiões Norte, Nordeste, Centro-Oeste e Sudeste e em crianças da macrorregião Sul apresentaram tendência ascendente. As taxas de incidências anuais médias foram maiores na faixa etária de 10 a 19 anos, exceto na macrorregião Sul. Os acidentes com escorpiões, serpentes e aranhas, nesta ordem, foram os mais frequentes; as tendências das séries históricas estratificadas por tipo de animal variaram conforme a macrorregião. Conclusões: Houve tendência ascendente na taxa de incidência de acidentes com animais peçonhentos em crianças e adolescentes no Brasil, exceto nos adolescentes da macrorregião Sul do país.

ABSTRACT Objective: To estimate the temporal trend of the incidence rates of accidents with venomous animals in children and adolescents in Brazil. Methods: An ecological time-series study was carried out between 2007 and 2019. Data were obtained from the Brazilian Information System on Diseases of Compulsory Declaration (Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação – SINAN). The time series of incidence rates of accidents with venomous animals were stratified by age group (children aged 0 to 9 years and adolescents aged 10 to 19 years), Brazilian macro-regions (North, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, and South), and type of accident (snake, scorpion, spider, and caterpillar). For trend analysis, the Prais-Winsten model and the Annual Percent Change (APC) were used. Results: The time series of the incidence rate of accidents with venomous animals in children and adolescents from the North, Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast macro-regions and in children from the South region showed an upward trend. The average annual incidence rates were higher in the age group of 10 to 19 years, except for the South macro-region. Accidents with scorpions, snakes, and spiders, in this order, were the most frequent; the trends in the time series stratified by type of animal varied according to the geographic macro-region. Conclusions: There was an upward trend in the incidence rate of accidents with venomous animals in children and adolescents in Brazil, except for adolescents in the South macro-region of the country.

Abstract Pain is common in orthodontic treatment, is subject to individual variation, and is associated with anxiety and stress, which can potentially become catastrophizing. The aim of the present study was to determine the variability of pain response after the insertion of orthodontic separators and to assess the association of pain levels with dental anxiety, catastrophizing, tooth sensitivity, and genetic expression of cytokines. To this end, 70 patients of both genders were divided into two equal groups according to the elastomeric separator used: G1 (Dentaurum) and G2 (Orthometric). Two separators were inserted in the mesial and distal sides of the lower right first molar. Participants were instructed to rate the level of pain at T0 (before insertion), T1 (just after insertion), and T2 (24 hours after insertion) on a visual analog scale. The gingival crevicular fluid was collected at T0 and T2. The levels of anxiety, catastrophizing, tooth sensitivity, and cytokine expression were also assessed. Statistical analysis was performed with the Fisher-Freeman-Halton, chi-squared, Spearman’s correlation, and dependent and independent t tests (α=5%). Pain intensity was higher at T2 than at T1, in both groups (P<.05). An association was established (P<.05) between pain intensity at T1 and catastrophizing, and at T2 with anxiety and catastrophizing. Within-group differences in cytokine expression were found between T0 and T2. There was no correlation between cytokine expression and pain levels, anxiety, catastrophizing, and sensitivity at T2. Tooth separation produced variable pain levels, which were influenced by anxiety and catastrophizing, however, pain level was not correlated with increased cytokine expression.

Resumo A pesquisa foi conduzida com objetivo de avaliar o efeito residual de diferentes fontes lipídicas na dieta de codornas japonesas (Coturnix japonica) na fase de recria sob o desempenho e a qualidade de ovos na fase inicial de postura. Na primeira etapa foram utilizadas 400 codornas japonesas com idade de 21 dias, as aves foram distribuídas em tratamentos seguindo um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com dez repetições, de oito aves, em cinco tratamentos: ração basal (RB) com 2,5% de óleo de soja, RB com 2,5 % de óleo de milho, RB com 2,5% de óleo algodão, RB com 2,5% de óleo de girassol e RB com 2,5% de óleo de canola. Aos 42 dias mantendo o delineamento inicial, todas aves receberam ração basal com óleo de soja, para que fosse avaliado o efeito residual da fase anterior sobre o desempenho e a qualidade dos ovos na fase inicial de postura (43 - 84 dias). As diferentes fontes lipídicas não afetaram o desempenho das aves na fase inicial de produção. Para a qualidade dos ovos, os parâmetros de altura, diâmetro e índice de gema, gravidade e UH foram melhores no tratamento com utilização de óleo de girassol. Houve efeito residual da utilização de fontes lipídicas de origem vegetal na dieta em fase de recria de codornas japonesas sobre as características da qualidade dos ovos. As fontes lipídicas oriundas das sementes de soja, milho, algodão, canola e girassol podem ser utilizadas como ingredientes energéticos na dieta de recria de codornas poedeiras por nâo serem prejudiciais ao desempenho inicial das aves. A longevidade na produção dos ovos das aves alimentadas com diferentes fontes lipídicas na fase de recria foi semelhante.

Abstract This study aims to evaluate the residual effect of different lipid sources in the diet of Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) in the rearing phase on the performance and egg quality in the initial phase of egg-laying. In the first stage, 400 Japanese quails aged 21 days were used, being distributed in a completely randomized experimental design, with five treatments and ten replicates of eight birds/replicate Treatments consisted of basal ration (BR) with 2.5% soybean oil; BR with 2.5% corn oil; BR with 2.5% cottonseed oil; BR with 2.5% sunflower oil; and BR with 2.5% canola oil. At 42 days, maintaining the initial design, all quails received a basal ration with soybean oil, in order to evaluate the residual effect of the previous phase on the performance and egg quality in the initial phase of egg-laying (43 - 84 days). The different lipid sources did not affect the performance of quails in the initial phase of production. For egg quality, yolk height, yolk diameter, yolk index, gravity, and Haugh unit (HU) showed better results in the treatment using sunflower oil. There was a residual effect of the use of lipid sources of vegetable origin in the rearing phase diet of Japanese quails on egg quality traits. Lipid sources from soybean, corn, cottonseed, canola, and sunflower seeds can be used as energy sources in the rearing diet of egg-laying quails for not being harmful to their initial performance. The longevity in egg production of quails fed with different lipid sources in the rearing phase was similar.
