Abstract Polymeric composite materials, presenting a practical solution for sealing non-metallic expansion joints under extreme conditions such as high temperatures and harsh chemical and physical abrasion, were investigated in this scientific study to discern the impact of welding parameters on their degradation and properties. The study entailed the bonding of polymeric composite blankets through hot plate pressing with a PTFE film, encompassing variations in temperature, duration, and load application. The findings elucidated that lower temperatures and shorter processing times failed to achieve optimal blanket adhesion, while higher temperatures led to material degradation, subsequently diminishing the mechanical strength of the welded joint. In contrast, extended processing times and the application of load during welding demonstrated a positive correlation, enhancing the mechanical strength of the joint by ameliorating interfacial adhesion. This research underscores the critical significance of carefully selecting welding parameters to ensure the peak performance and durability of polymeric composite structures.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the focus of pediatricians’ gaze during the heel prick of neonates. Methods: Prospective study in which pediatricians wearing eye tracker glasses evaluated neonatal pain before/after a heel prtick. Pediatricians scored the pain they perceived in the neonate in a verbal analogue numerical scale (0=no pain; 10=maximum pain). The outcomes measured were number and time of visual fixations in upper face, lower face, and hands, in two 10-second periods, before (pre) and after the puncture (post). These outcomes were compared between the periods, and according to pediatricians’ pain perception: absent/mild (score: 0–5) and moderate/intense (score: 6–10). Results: 24 pediatricians (31 years old, 92% female) evaluated 24 neonates. The median score attributed to neonatal pain during the heel prick was 7.0 (Interquartile range: 5–8). Compared to pre-, in the post-periods, more pediatricians fixed their gaze on the lower face (63 vs. 92%; p=0.036) and the number of visual fixations was greater on the lower face (2.0 vs. 5.0; p=0.018). There was no difference in the number and time of visual fixations according to the intensity of pain. Conclusions: At bedside, pediatricians change their focus of attention on the neonatal face after a painful procedure, focusing mainly on the lower part of the face.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar o foco do olhar do pediatra durante a punção do calcanhar de neonatos. Métodos: Estudo prospectivo no qual pediatras, utilizando óculos de rastreamento visual, avaliaram a dor neonatal antes/depois de uma punção de calcanhar. Os pediatras pontuaram a dor de acordo com a sua percepção por meio de uma escala analógica verbal (0=sem dor; 10=dor máxima). Os desfechos analisados foram o número e o tempo das fixações visuais na face superior, face inferior e mãos, em dois períodos de 10 segundos, antes (PRÉ) e depois da punção (PÓS). Os resultados foram comparados entre os períodos e segundo a percepção da dor do pediatra: ausente/leve (escore: 0–5) e moderada/grave (escore: 6–10). Resultados: Vinte e quatro pediatras (31 anos, 92% sexo feminino) avaliaram 24 neonatos. A mediana do escore atribuído à dor do recém-nascido durante a punção do calcanhar foi 7,0 (intervalo interquartil: 5–8). Comparado ao período PRÉ, no período PÓS, o maior número de pediatras fixou o olhar na face inferior (63 vs. 92%; p=0,036) e o número de fixações visuais foi maior na face inferior (2,0 vs. 5,0; p=0,018). Não houve diferença no número e no tempo das fixações visuais de acordo com a intensidade da dor. Conclusões: À beira do leito, os pediatras mudam seu foco de atenção visual na face do recém-nascido após um procedimento doloroso, focando o olhar principalmente na parte inferior da face.

Abstract The growth of cities affects their permeable surface, which can unbalance hydrological cycles. The pervious concrete can be a viable solution to combat urban environmental impacts in this subject. This type of concrete can be told apart by the presence of interconnected pores and its drainage capacity. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between aggregate shape, mechanical resistance, and permeability of pervious concrete slabs containing steel slag. A Digital Image Processing (DIP) based method was used to measure aggregate shape properties. Three different mixes, using three types of coarse aggregate (gravel 12.5 mm, gravel 9.5 mm, and coarse steel slag), and a type of fine aggregate (fine slag) were tested, and flexural strength, flow, and permeability coefficients were obtained for the slabs. Results showed the potential of using steel slag, with higher flexural strength results (4.61 MPa). Indications of the relationship between aggregate shape parameters and slab properties were determined, with more polished, more angular, and more spherical material resulting in higher flexural strength values and lower permeability coefficient. The inverse relationship between the slabs’ permeability parameters and flexural strength was observed.

Resumo O crescimento das cidades afeta a sua superfície permeável, o que pode desequilibrar os ciclos hidrológicos. O concreto permeável pode ser uma solução viável para combater os impactos ambientais urbanos relacionados a esses problemas. Este tipo de concreto é caracterizado pela presença de poros interligados e pela sua alta capacidade de drenagem. Esta pesquisa visa analisar a relação entre a forma dos agregados, a resistência mecânica e a permeabilidade de placas de concreto permeáveis contendo escórias de aciaria. Utilizou-se um método baseado no Processamento Digital de Imagem (PDI) para avaliar as propriedades da forma do agregado. Foram testadas três misturas diferentes, utilizando três tipos de agregados graúdos (brita 12,5 mm, brita 9,5 mm, e escória grossa), e um tipo de agregado fino (escória fina), e foram obtidos valores resistência à flexão, fluxo e coeficientes de permeabilidade para as placas. Os resultados mostraram o potencial da utilização de escória de aciaria, com resultados de resistência à flexão elevados (4,61 MPa). Determinaram-se relações entre parâmetros de forma agregados e propriedades das placas, com um agregado mais polido, mais angular e mais esférico, resultando em valores de resistência à flexão mais elevados e coeficiente de permeabilidade mais baixos. Observou-se uma relação inversa entre os parâmetros de permeabilidade das lajes e a resistência à flexão.

Abstract This study uses eye-tracking metrics to quantify the visual attention given to differentiation attributes in specialty coffees. Two Discrete Choice-type experiments were developed using the packaging as a stimulus to analyze visual attention and the probability of choice for each attribute. Experiment 1 (466 observations) included the evaluation of the attributes price, brand, coffee variety, organic label and origin. Experiment 2 (279 observations) tested price, score, altitude and roast. Experiments 1 and 2 revealed that the use of the Time Fixation Duration (TFD) and Visit Count (VC) metrics were efficient in evaluating the effect of visual attention on the choice of each attribute present in the packaging. In experiment 2, the Time to First Fixation (TFF) and the willingness-to-pay (WTP) metrics were also significant, the latter of which had a value higher than the highest price indicated by the retailer. The packaging label could be considered a first potential activation regarding the novelty that these attributes represent, and the findings of this study can direct the efforts of the coffee industry to educate its customers about the main quality attributes related to the consumption of specialty coffees that are still poorly understood, but which may generate future profitability.

Resumo Este estudo usa métricas de rastreamento ocular para quantificar a atenção visual dada aos atributos de diferenciação dos cafés especiais. Dois experimentos do tipo Discrete Choice foram desenvolvidos utilizando a embalagem como estímulo para analisar a atenção visual e a probabilidade de escolha de cada atributo. O experimento 1 (466 observações) incluiu a avaliação dos atributos preço, marca, variedade do café, selo orgânico e origem. O experimento 2 (279 observações) testou preço, pontuação, altitude e torra do grão. Os experimentos 1 e 2 revelaram que o uso das métricas Time Fixation Duration (TFD) e Visit Count (VC) foram eficientes na avaliação do efeito da atenção visual na escolha de cada atributo presente na embalagem. No experimento 2, o tempo para a primeira fixação (TFF) e as métricas de disposição a pagar (WTP) também foram significativas, sendo que este teve um valor superior ao preço mais alto indicado pelo varejista. O rótulo de uma embalagem pode ser considerado potencialmente uma primeira ativação em relação à novidade que esses atributos representam e, além disso, os achados deste estudo podem direcionar os esforços da indústria cafeeira para educar seus clientes sobre os principais atributos de qualidade relacionados ao consumo de cafés especiais que ainda são pouco conhecidos, mas que podem gerar lucratividade futura.

ABSTRACT: Protocols to artificially induce cows and heifers into lactation are effective and commercially available in Brazil. However, these protocols demand long hormonal treatments, which is debatable since little research has been done in the subject. To further understand artificial induction to lactation (AIL) protocols, we conducted two experiments. In experiment 1, our objective was to better characterize steroidal profile during an AIL protocol and assess the estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) serum profiles of Jersey cows (n=6) subjected to a conventional protocol. In experiment 2, we aimed to compare milk production and serum E2 concentrations of Holstein heifers induced into lactation by the standard AIL protocol (15 injections of E2 and 8 P4 injections) and by a short protocol in which the number of E2 injections and, consequently, the overall dosage of E2, were reduced (8 injections of E2 and 8 P4 injections). We hypothesized that a short AIL protocol (8 days) would be as efficient as the long standard protocol of 15 days. Our hypothesis was confirmed, since we demonstrated that a shorter protocol was able to induce lactation in Holstein heifers without hindering milk production.

RESUMO: Protocolos que induzem à lactação artificial em vacas e novilhas são eficazes e estão comercialmente disponíveis no Brasil. No entanto, esses protocolos demandam longos tratamentos hormonais, o que é discutível visto que poucas pesquisas foram feitas sobre o assunto. Para entender melhor os protocolos de indução artificial à lactação (IAL), realizamos dois experimentos. Foi testada a hipótese de que um protocolo curto (oito dias) de IAL é tão eficiente quanto o protocolo padrão de 15 dias. No experimento 1 objetivou-se caracterizar o perfil esteroidal durante um protocolo de IAL e avaliou-se os perfis séricos de estradiol (E2) e progesterona (P4) de vacas Jersey (n=6) submetidas a um protocolo convencional. No experimento 2 foram comparadas a produção de leite e as concentrações séricas de E2 de novilhas holandesas induzidas à lactação pelo protocolo padrão de IAL (15 injeções de E2 e 8 injeções de P4) e por um protocolo curto, no qual o número de injeções de E2 e, consequentemente, a dosagem geral de E2 foram reduzidas (oito injeções de E2 e oito injeções de P4). A hipótese foi confirmada, demonstrado que um protocolo mais curto induziu a lactação em novilhas holandesas sem prejudicar a produção de leite.

Resumen: El objetivo de esta revisión integradora de la literatura fue sintetizar la diversa evidencia disponible sobre el rol de la resiliencia en la adherencia a la terapia antirretroviral en personas que viven con VIH. Un comité de jueces independientes realizó búsquedas sistemáticas en las bases de datos CINAHL, LILACS, PePSIC, PsycINFO, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus y Web of Science. Los datos se organizaron en el programa Rayyan. Se recuperaron 14 artículos publicados entre 2010 y 2021. Se presentaron los resultados en cuanto al enfoque y el nivel de adherencia, enfoque de resiliencia y asociación entre resiliencia y adherencia. En todos los estudios se observó que la resiliencia estuvo implicada en el proceso de adherencia a la ART, además de evidenciarse diferentes acercamientos conceptuales de la resiliencia, con predominio de una comprensión procedimental del constructo y escasez de instrumentos de medición. La revisión de la literatura demostró que pocos estudios han evaluado la resiliencia en PVVIH y, especialmente, la relación entre resiliencia y adherencia, a pesar de reconocerse que la resiliencia puede modular la capacidad de una persona para lidiar con los factores estresantes de vivir con el VIH y su atención médica.

Abstract: The objective of this integrative literature review was to synthesize the available evidence on the role of resilience in adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) among people living with HIV. A committee of independent judges performed systematic searches in the CINAHL, LILACS, PePSIC, PsycINFO, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and Web of Science databases/libraries. The data were organized in the Rayyan software. A total of 14 articles published between 2010 and 2021 were retrieved. The results were presented regarding the approach and level of adherence, resilience approach and association between resilience and adherence. In all the studies it was observed that resilience was involved in the ART adherence process, in addition to evidencing the use of different conceptual approaches to resilience, with predominance of a procedural understanding of the construct and scarcity of measuring instruments. The literature review showed that few studies have assessed resilience in people living with HIV and, especially, the relationship between resilience and adherence, despite acknowledging that resilience can modulate a person's ability to deal with the stressors of living with HIV and its health care measures.

Resumo: O objetivo desta revisão integrativa de literatura foi sintetizar as evidências disponíveis sobre o papel da resiliência na adesão à terapia antirretroviral em pessoas vivendo com HIV. Um comitê de juízes independentes realizou buscas sistematizadas nas bases/bibliotecas CINAHL, LILACS, PePSIC, PsycINFO, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus e Web of Science. Os dados foram organizados no software Rayyan. Foram recuperados 14 artigos publicados entre 2010 e 2021. Os resultados foram apresentados quanto à abordagem e nível da adesão, abordagem da resiliência e associação entre resiliência e adesão. Observou-se, em todos os estudos, que a resiliência esteve envolvida no processo de adesão à TARV, além do uso de diferentes abordagens conceituais acerca da resiliência, com predomínio de uma compreensão processual do construto e escassez de instrumentos de mensuração. A revisão de literatura evidenciou que poucos estudos avaliaram a resiliência em PVHIV e principalmente a relação entre resiliência e adesão, apesar do reconhecimento de que a resiliência pode modular a capacidade da pessoa de lidar com os estressores do viver com HIV e seus cuidados em saúde.

Objective: to analyze the correlation between time on target and glycated hemoglobin in people living with diabetes mellitus and carrying out continuous blood glucose monitoring or self-monitoring of capillary blood glucose. Method: systematic review of etiology and risk based on JBI guidelines and reported according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses, covering six databases and grey literature. The sample included 16 studies and methodological quality was assessed using JBI tools. Protocol registered in the Open Science Framework, available at https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/NKMZB. Results: time on target (70-180 mg/dl) showed a negative correlation with glycated hemoglobin, while time above target (>180 mg/dl) showed a positive correlation. Correlation coefficients ranged between -0.310 and -0.869 for time on target, and between 0.66 and 0.934 for time above target. A study was carried out on a population that performed self-monitoring. Conclusion: there is a statistically significant correlation between time on target and time above target with glycated hemoglobin. The higher the proportion in the adequate glycemic range, the closer to or less than 7% the glycated hemoglobin will be. More studies are needed to evaluate this metric with data from self-monitoring of blood glucose.

Objetivo: analizar la correlación entre el tiempo en rango y la hemoglobina glicosilada de personas que viven con diabetes mellitus y realizan la monitorización continua de la glucemia o el automonitoreo de la glucemia capilar Método: revisión sistemática de etiología y riesgo basada en las directrices del JBI e informada según los Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, abarcando seis bases de datos y la literatura gris. La muestra incluyó 16 estudios y la calidad metodológica fue evaluada utilizando las herramientas del JBI. Resultados: tiempo en rango (70-180 mg/dl) mostró una correlación negativa con la hemoglobina glicosilada, mientras que el tiempo por encima del rango (>180 mg/dl) mostró una correlación positiva. Los coeficientes de correlación variaron entre -0,310 y -0,869 para el tiempo en rango, y entre 0,66 y 0,934 para el tiempo por encima del rango. Un estudio se realizó en una población que hacía el automonitoreo. Conclusión: hay una correlación estadísticamente significativa entre el tiempo en rango y el tiempo por encima del rango con la hemoglobina glicosilada. Cuanto mayor sea la proporción en el rango glucémico adecuado, más cerca o por debajo del 7% estará la hemoglobina glicosilada. Se necesitan más estudios que evalúen esta métrica con datos del automonitoreo de la glucemia.

Abstract Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a problem that directly affects the quality of life of patients suffering from this condition. Monitoring the serum level of infliximab (IFX) (TDM) is an important tool for guiding therapeutic decisions in IBD patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the significance of quantitatively measuring the serum level of IFX (TDM) and antibody to IFX (ATI). Methods and materials: Prospective observational study involving 40 IBD patients on IFX therapy, including 14 Proactive (week 06 of the induction phase) and 26 Reactive (maintenance phase). Immediately prior to the infusion, blood samples were drawn and measured using a Bulhlmann rapid test instrument. Serum concentrations of IFX were categorized as supratherapeutic (>7.0 micrograms/ml), therapeutic (between 3.0 and 7.0 micrograms/ml), and subtherapeutic (3.0 micrograms/ml). When the serum concentration of IFX was 3 mcg/ml (subtherapeutic), the ATI was measured. 25 patients with CD and 15 patients with UC were evaluated. Only three of the twenty patients with subtherapeutic serum levels had a positive ATI, and both were reactive; two had CD and one had UC. There was a statistically significant difference between reactive and proactive patients with respect to levels of CRP (p = 0.042), with proactive DNS patients suffering greater alterations in CRP and albumin.

ABSTRACT The Northeast region of Brazil is the primary producer of yellow passion fruit. In recent years, water scarcity has led passion fruit growers to use highly saline water for cultivation. Therefore, implementing technologies that alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on plants is a promising approach, particularly in semi-arid conditions. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of organomineral fertilizers in mitigating salt stress effects on chlorophyll-a fluorescence and gas exchange in ‘Guinezinho’ yellow passion fruit seedlings. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks with four replicates and four seedlings per plot, following a 2 × 3 factorial design. The factors considered were irrigation using water with low (0.18 dS m-1) and high (4.0 dS m-1) electrical conductivity and three liquid organomineral attenuators (Codasal™, Aminoagro Raiz™, and a mixture of Codasal™ + Aminoagro Raiz™ at a 1:1 v/v ratio), applied through fertigation. Irrigation with water containing 4.0 dS m-1 electrical conductivity, combined with liquid fertilizers, resulted in increased substrate salinity, and reduced stomatal conductance in yellow passion fruit seedlings, particularly when Codasal™ was applied. Application of Codasal™ alone or in combination with Aminoagro Raiz™ significantly enhanced variable fluorescence, quantum efficiency of PSII, CO2 assimilation rate, and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency in ‘Guinezinho’ yellow passion fruit seedlings.

RESUMO O Nordeste é a principal região produtora de frutos de maracujazeiro-amarelo no Brasil, que devido à escassez hídrica ocorrida nos últimos anos, os passifloricultores utilizam água de elevada concentração de sais para exploração da cultura. Dessa forma, o emprego de tecnologias que possibilite a atenuação do estresse salino às plantas é uma estratégia promissora nas condições de semiárido. Objetivou-se com o trabalho avaliar a ação de fertilizantes organominerais como atenuador do estresse salino sobre a fluorescência da clorofila a e trocas gasosas de mudas maracujazeiro-amarelo acesso ‘Guinezinho’. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições e quatro mudas por parcela, empregando o esquema fatorial 2 × 3, referente às irrigação com água de baixa (0,18 dS m-1) e alta (4,00 dS m-1) condutividade elétrica e três atenuadores organomineral líquidos (Codasal®, Aminoagro Raiz® e mistura de Codasal® + Aminoagro Raiz® - proporção de 1/1 v/v), via fertirrigação. A irrigação com água de 4,0 dS m-1 associado com fertilizantes líquidos aumentam a salinidade do substrato e reduz a condutância estomática das mudas de maracujazeiro-amarelo, principalmente, com aplicação de Codasal®. A aplicação individual ou associado de Codasal® com Aminoagro Raiz® promove aumentos na fluorescência variável, eficiência quântica do PSII, taxa de assimilação de CO2 e eficiência instantânea de carboxilação em mudas de maracujazeiro-amarelo, acesso “Guinezinho”.

This paper analyses the salary differences between rural and urban workers in the states of Amazonas and Pará. This analysis was conducted for the two largest states in northern Brazil, as they have different socioeconomic and labor market characteristics. Specifically, we examine the extent to which investment in human capital and non-productive attributes affect income differences. We used the Continuous National Household Sample Survey for 2011, 2013, and 2015. We find that highly educated and experienced workers obtain higher wage increases through the fixed-effects pseudo-panel and Oaxaca-Blinder methodologies. Urban workers earn higher wages than rural workers, as well as those residing in the state of Pará. In the state of Amazonas, the wage difference is impacted by non-productive attributes explained by segmentation in the labor market, such as government administration and other activities in contrast to the agricultural sector.

Este artigo analisa as diferenças salariais entre trabalhadores rurais e urbanos do Amazonas e do Pará. Esta análise foi feita para os dois maiores estados da região Norte por possuírem características socioeconômicas e de mercado de trabalho distintas. Especificamente, verificou-se até que ponto o investimento em capital humano e os atributos não produtivos impactam as diferenças de rendimentos. Utilizou-se a Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua para 2011, 2013 e 2015. Através das metodologias de pseudopainel com Efeitos Fixos e Oaxaca-Blinder verificou-se que os trabalhadores mais escolarizados e experientes obtêm maiores ganhos salariais. Os trabalhadores urbanos recebem maiores salários do que os trabalhadores rurais, bem como aqueles que residem no Pará. No estado do Amazonas, o que impactou a diferença salarial foram os atributos não produtivos explicados pela segmentação no mercado de trabalho, como a Administração Pública e Outras Atividades em comparação com o setor Agrícola.

Which types of issues are more susceptible to persuasion or polarization through cues provided by political elites? The central hypothesis to be tested in this article proposes that political issues with high identity value and distinctiveness favor discernment, thus becoming less susceptible to persuasion and polarization by political elites (H1). The data used in this study were extracted from an experimental database with a probabilistic sample of the American electorate. To investigate H1, we analyzed the relationship between the polarizing cues effects found in the treatments and the difference in average support for ten political issues between Republicans and Democrats. The hypothesis was confirmed by the results, both in relation to the cues provided by the Republican Party and by Donald Trump. The findings strengthen the idea of a democratic system that truly represents the values of the electorate and clearly demonstrate a limit on the impact of political leaders on public opinion preferences. However, this persuasion or polarization can still be problematic, even when focused on secondary issues, that may be of extreme relevance.

Quais tipos de questões são mais suscetíveis à persuasão ou polarização por meio de heurísticas fornecidas por elites partidárias? A hipótese central a ser testada neste artigo propõe que questões políticas com alto valor identitário e distintivo favorecem o discernimento, tornando-se, assim, menos suscetíveis à persuasão e polarização por elites políticas (H1). Os dados utilizados neste estudo foram extraídos de um banco de dados experimentais com uma amostra probabilística do eleitorado norte-americano. Para investigar H1, analisamos a relação entre os efeitos das heurísticas polarizantes encontradas nos tratamentos e a diferença nas médias de apoio a dez questões políticas entre republicanos e democratas. A hipótese foi confirmada pelos resultados, tanto em relação à heurística fornecida pelo partido republicano quanto pela fornecida por Donald Trump. Os achados fortalecem a ideia de um sistema democrático que, de fato, representa os valores do eleitorado e evidenciam claramente um limite no impacto das lideranças políticas sobre as preferências dos eleitores. No entanto, essa persuasão ou polarização ainda pode ser problemática mesmo centradas em questões laterais, que podem ser de extrema relevância.

ABSTRACT The tropical forest is extremely exploited and fragmented, making it essential to collect native seeds to meet the growing demand for its restoration and maintenance of biodiversity. Thus, the objective is to select potential forest fragments with a higher degree of conservation for seed harvesting, through the use and association of landscape ecology with fuzzy logic. The study was carried out in the watershed of the Itapemirim river. The stages of selection and photointerpretation of the images were carried out; error determination; application of landscape ecology metric indices; application of fuzzy logic in a computational application and validation of the methodology in loco. 7,515 forest fragments were determined, corresponding to 19.21% of the study area, with 89.53% of hits. Fragments smaller than 5 ha are the most fragile and are at risk of extinction, while those larger than 300 ha have a lower risk of extinction, even with the increase in the edge. With the application of fuzzy logic, the mean was between 0.15, standard deviation of 0.24 and the coefficient of variation at 161.73%. Scenario 1 (FLONA of Pacotuba), has 10.25% of families, 25.92% of genera and 33.62% of species more than Scenario 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus of Alegre), among the identified individuals. The association of landscape ecology techniques and fuzzy logic made it possible to identify fragments with a higher degree of conservation, with potential for harvesting forest seeds.

RESUMO A floresta tropical é extremamente explorada e fragmentada, sendo imprescindível a coleta de sementes nativas, a fim de atender a crescente demanda para sua restauração e manutenção da biodiversidade. Dessa forma, objetiva-se selecionar fragmentos florestais potenciais com maior grau de conservação para a colheita de sementes, via utilização e associação da ecologia da paisagem à lógica Fuzzy. O estudo foi realizado na bacia hidrográfica do rio Itapemirim. Foram realizadas as etapas de seleção e fotointerpretação das imagens; determinação do erro; aplicação dos índices métricos de ecologia da paisagem; aplicação da lógica Fuzzy em aplicativo computacional e validação da metodologia in loco. Foram determinados 7.515 fragmentos florestais, correspondendo a 19,21% da área de estudo, com 89,53% de acertos. Os fragmentos menores que 5 ha são os mais frágeis e possuem risco de extinção, enquanto os maiores que 300 ha possuem menor risco de extinção, mesmo com o aumento da borda. Com a aplicação da lógica Fuzzy, a média ficou entre 0,15, desvio padrão de 0,24 e o coeficiente de variação em 161,73 %. O Cenário 1 (FLONA de Pacotuba) possui 10,25% de famílias, 25,92 % de gêneros e 33,62% de espécies a mais que o Cenário 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus de Alegre), entre os indivíduos identificados. A associação das técnicas de ecologia da paisagem e lógica Fuzzy possibilitou identificar os fragmentos em maior grau de conservação, com potencial para colheita de sementes florestais.

ABSTRACT In the initial phase of the coffee crop, the control of weeds and water availability for the establishment of the plants is a concern. The polyethylene cover can positively influence the chemical and biological characteristics of the soil and, consequently, the root system. The objective of this work was to evaluate the morphology of the root system of coffee plants using polyethylene mulching of different widths and colors. Coffee was planted in December 2016 using the cultivar Topázio MG-1190. A randomized repetitions design was used, with four blocks and five treatments, as follows: 1.20-m wide white/black mulching, 1.40-m white/black mulching, 1.20-m silver/black mulching, 1.40-m silver /black mulching, and no mulching. Total root dry matter per soil volume, total root length per soil volume, total root volume per soil volume, total root area per soil volume, specific root surface, specific root length, and mean root diameter were all evaluated. Roots with smaller diameters were concentrated in the 0-0.20 m depth layer, while in the 0.20-0.40 m depth layer, roots with larger diameters were found. Plants grown in 1.20-m silver/black mulching showed a greater surface area and a specific length of the roots.

Abstract Objective Acute kidney injury (AKI) in the neonatal period is associated with worst outcomes as increased mortality and increased length of hospital stay. Very low birth weight (VLBW) newborns are at higher risk for developing several other conditions that are associated with worst outcomes. Understanding the risk factors for AKI may help to prevent this condition and improve neonatal care for this population. Methods This retrospective cohort study included 155 very low birth weight newborns admitted between 2015 and 2017. The authors compared the newborns who developed neonatal AKI with the non-AKI group and analyzed the main risk factors for developing AKI in the population. The authors also performed an analysis of the main outcomes defined as the duration of mechanical ventilation, length of stay, and death. Results From the cohort, a total of 61 (39.4%) patients had AKI. The main risk factors associated with Neonatal AKI were necrotizing enterocolitis (aOR 7.61 [1.69 - 34.37]; p = 0.008), neonatal sepsis (aOR 2.91 [1.17 - 7.24], p = 0.021), and hemodynamic instability (aOR 2.99 [1.35 - 6.64]; p = 0.007). Neonatal AKI was also associated with an increase in the duration of mechanical ventilation in 9.4 days (p = 0.026) and in an increase in mortality 4 times (p = 0.009), after adjusting for the other variables. Conclusion The present results highlight the importance of minimizing sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis, as well as the importance of identifying hemodynamic instability, to prevent AKI and diminish the burden of morbimortality in VLBW newborns.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of COVID 19 on mental health among Health Sciences college students. This is a cross-sectional and quantitative study, the sample consisted of 618 university students of health sciences. Depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9). The prevalence of depressive symptoms was estimated and the relationship between severe depressive symptoms and associated factors was achieved through multivariate analysis of Poisson Regression. The prevalence of mild, moderate, or severe depressive symptoms was 87.2% among students, while the prevalence of severe depressive symptoms was 18.8%. The factors that were significantly associated with severe depressive symptoms were moderate to severe internet dependence (PR = 3.60), self-perceived health regular / poor (PR = 3.15), female gender (PR = 2, 11), sexual orientation (PR = 2.02), decreased family income during the COVID-19 Pandemic (PR = 1.87) and the presence of some chronic disease (PR = 1.77). The assessment of the prevalence of depressive symptoms among students of health sciences was high and, considering the potential underlying health commitment institutional policies should be outlined, aiming to promote and protect the mental health of this population, as well as mitigate the negative effects direct and indirect effects caused by COVID-19.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os impactos da COVID-19 na saúde mental entre estudantes universitários de Ciências da Saúde. Trata-se de um estudo transversal e quantitativo, cuja amostra foi constituída por 618 estudantes universitários da área da saúde. Os sintomas depressivos foram avaliados por meio do Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9). A prevalência dos sintomas depressivos foi estimada e a relação entre sintomas depressivos severos e fatores associados foi obtida por meio de análise multivariada da Regressão de Poisson. A prevalência da sintomatologia depressiva, seja ela leve, moderada ou severa, foi de 87,2% entre os estudantes, enquanto a prevalência de sintomas depressivos severos foi de 18,8%. Os fatores que se associaram de forma significativa aos sintomas depressivos severos foram a dependência de internet moderada a grave (RP = 3,60), a autopercepção de saúde regular/ruim (RP = 3,15), o sexo feminino (RP = 2,11), orientação sexual (RP = 2,02), diminuição da renda familiar durante a Pandemia da COVID-19 (RP = 1,87) e presença de alguma doença crônica (RP = 1,77). A avaliação da prevalência de sintomas depressivos entre os estudantes de Ciências da Saúde foi elevada e, considerando o potencial comprometimento de saúde subjacente, políticas institucionais devem ser delineadas, visando promover e proteger a saúde mental dessa população, assim como mitigar os efeitos negativos diretos e indiretos causados pela COVID-19.
