Resumo Entendemos a ética em pesquisa como uma ação cotidiana de construção de confiança, afetada pelo compromisso de transformação de nossas práticas sociais. Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar as relações entre pesquisador-diretor e protagonista no processo de decisão sobre as imagens produzidas e incluídas no filme que narra a história de vida de Keila Simpson entrecruzada ao movimento social de travestis. Para além de uma dimensão estritamente estética, tal processo de decisão implicou negociação permanente entre ambos em um trabalho ético que ultrapassou a busca de sigilo, anonimato ou autorização formal. Os diálogos sobre a publicização de cenas relativas à intimidade da protagonista e suas relações com a família e a prostituição redimensionaram seu caráter privado e explicitaram as implicações políticas das formas de mostrar/ver as vidas travestis. É nesse esforço de incorporar os desafios éticos, como elementos estruturais da pesquisa, que se aponta para uma possibilidade de produção acadêmica comprometida em compartilhar lugares de pensar/fazer com os sujeitos pesquisados.

Abstract We understand research ethics as daily actions under taken to build trust, which are affected by a commitment to transform our social practices. The objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between a researcher/film director and the film’s protagonist when making decisions about images produced and included in a film about the life story of Keila Simpson and the social movement of transvestites. In addition to a strictly aesthetic dimension, this decision-making process involved permanent negotiations between the two in an ethical undertaking that went beyond an effort to maintain secrecy, anonymity or formal authorization. The dialogues about the release of scenes related to the private life of the protagonist and her relationships with family and prostitution redefined her private life and made explicit the political implications of forms of depicting and seeing the lives of transvestites. It is this effort to incorporate ethical challenges, as structural elements of research, that reveals the opportunity for academic production that is committed to sharing the thinking and doing with research subjects.

Resumo A produção de um documentário como estratégia de pesquisa no campo das ciências humanas ainda gera debate significativo. Buscando contribuir para esse debate, o objetivo deste artigo é apontar alguns desafios metodológicos que marcaram o processo de pesquisar/registrar/narrar um filme documentário sobre a trajetória de vida de Keila Simpson e seus entrelaçamentos com(na) história do movimento de travestis no Brasil. Assim, por meio de uma análise teórica, inicialmente, discutimos as disputas sobre o real e o verdadeiro que se (re)produzem na interação com as imagens. A partir de uma perspectiva etnográfica, então, refletimos sobre nosso percurso de realização do documentário, nas etapas de exploração e produção de esboços, apresentando possibilidades e limites de fazer/pensar/negociar um filme etnográfico sendo pesquisador/cineasta em interação com a interlocutora/narradora. Entendemos que o filme permitirá entender aspectos sensíveis da protagonista e suas relações de sociabilidade e, de forma indireta, compreender o sensível não diretamente abordado pelas imagens.

Abstract The documentary as a research strategy in the field of human sciences still generates significant debate. Aiming to contribute to this debate, the objective of this article is to point out some methodological challenges that marked the process of researching/ recording/narrating a documentary film about the life trajectory of Keila Simpson and its interweavings with(in) the history of the transvestite movement in Brazil. Thus, through a theoretical analysis, we initially discuss the disputes over the real and the truth that (re)produce in the interaction with the images. From an ethnographic perspective, then, we reflect on our journey of making a documentary, in the stages of exploration and production of sketches, presenting possibilities and limits to make/think/negotiate an ethnographic film being a researcher/filmmaker in interaction with the interlocutor/narrator. We understand that the film will allow us to understand sensitive aspects of the protagonist and her sociability and, indirectly, to understand the sensitive not directly addressed by the images.

Resumo: As narrativas sobre as travestis e transexuais integram um conjunto significativo de trabalhos acadêmicos no Brasil, revelando diferentes formas de (re)contar a sociabilidade delas. Esse artigo é uma proposta coletiva de (re)pensar o lugar da academia na (re)produção das vidas travestis, a partir da construção de uma estratégia narrativa que inclua a perspectiva de uma epistemologia situada na experiência. Nosso argumento é que diferentes estratégias de pesquisas podem reconstruir e ressignificar a discussão sobre o “lugar de fala” que tem marcado uma tensa relação entre academia e movimento social.

Abstract: The narratives about transvestite and transgender have integrated a significant set of academic works in Brazil, revealing different ways of (re)telling their sociability. This article is, of the construction of a narratives strategy that includes the perspective of an epistemology situated in the experience, a collective proposal tore think the place of the academy in there production of transvestite and transgender lives. Our argument is that different research strategies can reconstruct and resignify the discussion about the "place of speech" that has marked a tense relationship between academia and social movement.

As experiências narrativas etnográficas articulando imagens e textos podem acionar as sensibilidades, os saberes e os sentidos estéticos e culturais presentes na relação ver-o-que-se-diz/dizer-o-que-se-vê. Entre as possibilidades de exploração do universo de imagens estão as fotográficas. A partir das imagens capturadas no cotidiano das travestis, argumento que a pose é um componente sígnico capaz de oferecer vestígios para a compreensão/interpretação de aspectos singulares desse universo que não se esgotam na interpretação usual dos signos letrados. Para o artigo em questão, recorto fragmentos da migração das travestis para a Itália. Um projeto significativamente marcado pela expectativa de trabalho e sobrevivência, mas também que se reveste de glamour num cenário em que as imagens - fotografias enviadas à família e também disponibilizadas na plataforma virtual - compõem narrativas de um sucesso inscrito no corpo, nas joias, nos carros, mas também ancoradas em espaços geográficos diferenciados, capazes de informar sobre "a conquista da Europa".

The ethnographic narrative experiences articulating images and texts may trigger the sensitivities, knowledge and esthetical and cultural senses existing in the see-what-is-said/say-what-is-seen relation. The photographs are among the possibilities of exploration of the universe of images. From the images taken from the daily lives of the transvestites, I argue that the posing is a signifying component capable of offering hints for the comprehension/ interpretation of some particular aspects of that universe, not based only on the usual interpretations of the written words. For this article, I gathered fragments of the transvestites' migration to Italy, a project significantly marked by the expectation of working and making a living, but which is also immerse in glamour in a scenario where the images - photographs sent to the families and also made available in the virtual platform - compose narratives of a success inscribed on the body, through jewelry, cars, but also anchored in differentiated geographical spaces, capable of informing about the "conquest of Europe".
