Resumen Introducción : La evidencia científica sugiere que es trategias de atención conjunta madre-hijo facilitarían el conocimiento de métodos anticonceptivos (MAC) y su acceso. El objetivo fue evaluar el efecto del Modelo de atención integrada de la madre y el niño sobre la adherencia y conocimientos de MAC en mujeres durante el primer semestre postparto. Métodos : Se realizó un estudio de intervención, se conformaron 2 grupos, GI: grupo de intervención (3 con troles hasta los 6 meses postparto) y GC: grupo control (un control a los 6 meses postparto). La intervención consistió en asesoramiento presencial acerca de MAC combinada con folletería informativa y mensajes de WhatsApp®. Se recabaron datos sociodemográficos, an tecedentes gineco-obstétricos, uso y conocimientos de MAC. Se comparó la adherencia al uso y el conocimiento de MAC en ambos grupos a los 6 meses post parto. El análisis se realizó mediante el software R versión 4.0.3. Resultados : Se incorporaron 39 mujeres en cada grupo. Se halló una diferencia en el uso de MAC entre grupos a los 6 meses (92.3% vs. 64.1%), siendo más eleva do su uso en el GI. Se hallaron diferencias significativas en el conocimiento de algunos MAC a los 6 meses. Un mayor porcentaje de mujeres del GI conocía las pastillas anticonceptivas (p = 0.009), ligadura de trompas (p = 0.04) y la vasectomía (p = 0.010), en comparación con el GC. Discusión : La intervención en el postparto temprano con diversas estrategias de comunicación e información pueden ser útiles para elegir el MAC que se considere más adecuado para cada mujer y su utilización correcta.

Abstract Introduction : Scientific evidence suggests that moth er-child joint care strategies would facilitate knowledge of contraceptive methods (MAC) and their access. The objective was to evaluate the effect of the Integrated Mother and Child Care Model on adherence and knowl edge of CAM in women during the first postpartum semester. Methods : An intervention study was carried out, 2 groups were formed, GI: intervention group (3 controls up to 6 months postpartum) and GC: control group (one control at 6 months postpartum). The intervention con sisted of face-to-face counseling about MAC combined with informative brochures and WhatsApp® messages. Sociodemographic data, gynecological and obstetric history, use and knowledge of contraceptive methods were collected. Adherence to the use and knowledge of MAC were compared in both groups at 6 months post partum. The analysis was performed using R software version 4.0.3. Results : Thirty-nine women were incorporated into each group. A difference was found in the use of MAC between groups at 6 months (92.3% vs. 64.1%), its use being higher in GI. Significant differences were found in the knowledge of some MAC at 6 months. A higher percentage of women in GI knew about birth control pills (p = 0.009), tubal ligation (p = 0.04) and vasectomy (p = 0.010), compared to GC. Discussion : Early postpartum intervention with vari ous communication and information strategies can be useful to choose the MAC that is considered most ap propriate for each woman and its correct use.

Abstract In swine production systems, one of the critical points that must be strictly attended to is the health of the pigs. Health is a structural component of animal welfare and reflects an optimal state of the animals, which has a direct impact on a higher productive performance and better development conditions. Infectious diseases are one of the greatest threats to the health of pigs and can cause losses of up to 100 % of production; therefore, it requires constant attention and continuous monitoring by the veterinarian and producers, in perfect coordination with the official health authorities. Currently, the implementation of best practices in the production chain is of interest to both producers and consumers. The control of infectious diseases requires collaboration between the various actors in the environment and must be considered a public good, since their negative repercussions can range from the local to the global level. This review will address the main infectious diseases that endanger swine health, their impact, the main contributions made by the National Institute for Research in Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock (INIFAP) in its 35 years of life, mainly at the National Center for Disciplinary Research in Animal Health and Safety (CENID-SAI), formerly known as the emblematic CENID-Microbiología or Palo Alto.

Resumen En los sistemas de producción porcina, uno de los puntos críticos que deben ser atendidos con estricto rigor, es la salud de los cerdos. La salud, es un componente estructural del bienestar animal y refleja un estado óptimo de los animales, lo que repercute directamente en un mayor desempeño productivo y mejores condiciones de desarrollo. Uno de los eslabones más frágiles de la salud de los cerdos, es la presencia de enfermedades infecciosas más importantes, las cuales pueden representar pérdidas hasta del 100 % de la producción, por lo cual, debe ser un tema de atención constante, y continuamente vigilado por el Médico Veterinario Zootecnista y los productores, en perfecta coordinación con las autoridades sanitarias oficiales. En la actualidad, la implementación de mejores prácticas en la cadena productiva es de interés para productores y consumidores. El control de las enfermedades infecciosas debe ser un tema de colaboración entre los diferentes actores del entorno y ser considerado un bien público, ya que las repercusiones negativas, pueden ser desde el nivel local hasta mundial. En la presente revisión, se abordará la temática relacionada con las principales enfermedades infecciosas que ponen en riesgo la salud porcina, el impacto, las principales aportaciones realizadas por el Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP) en sus 35 años de vida, específicamente en el Centro Nacional de Investigación Disciplinaria en Salud Animal e Inocuidad (CENID-SAI), anteriormente conocido como el emblemático CENID-Microbiología o Palo Alto.

Abstract Background and aims: Nephron-sparing surgery has become the standard surgical technique for small renal masses, taking the place of traditional radical nephrectomy. The aim of the present study was to compare partial nephrectomy and tumor enucleation, with respect to morbidity and oncologic results. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients that underwent partial nephrectomy or enucleation at the Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa de Zaragoza, between August 2011 and October 2019. Demographics, clinical and surgical characteristics, and oncologic results were the variables analyzed. Results: Forty-eight patients were followed for 36,1±28,0 months. Compared with the partial nephrectomy group, the patients that underwent tumor enucleation presented with lower values of mean blood loss (117,7±95.1 ml and 221±293.1 ml, p=0,488), ischemia (46% and 95%, p<0,001), mean ischemia time (24,6±7,2 min and 25,1±10,4 min, p=0,844), and complications (11,5% and 22,7%, p=0,442), respectively. No local recurrence was observed. Conclusions: Both groups were comparable in relation to tumor stage. The enucleation group presented with less blood loss, less need for vascular clamping, and similar ischemia time, compared with the partial nephrectomy group. Both techniques were oncologically safe, with a low rate of compromised surgical margins. Postoperative morbidity with the two techniques was low.

Resumen Antecedentes y objetivo: La cirugía conservadora de nefronas se ha convertido en la técnica quirúrgica estándar para masas renales de pequeño tamaño, desbancando la tradicional nefrectomía radical. El objetivo del estudio es comparar nefrectomía parcial y enucleación tumoral en función de morbilidad y resultados oncológicos. Material y métodos: Estudio de cohortes retrospectivo de pacientes sometidos a nefrectomía parcial o enucleación en el Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa de Zaragoza, entre agosto de 2011 y octubre de 2019. Variables demográficas, clínicas, quirúrgicas y resultados oncológicos han sido analizadas. Resultados: 48 pacientes fueron seguidos 36.1±28.0 meses. Los pacientes sometidos a enucleación tumoral, respecto al grupo de nefrectomía parcial presentaron valores inferiores de sangrado medio (117.7±95.1 ml y 221±293.1 ml, p=0.488), isquemia (46% y 95%, p<0.001), tiempo de isquemia medio (24.6±7.2 min y 25.1±10.4 min, p=0.844) y complicaciones (11.5% y un 22.7%, p=0.442) respectivamente. No se observó recidiva local. Conclusiones: Ambos grupos son comparables en cuanto a estadio tumoral, presentando en el grupo de enucleación un menor sangrado, menor necesidad de clampaje vascular y un tiempo de isquemia similar al grupo de nefrectomía parcial. Ambas técnicas son seguras a nivel oncológico, con una baja tasa de márgenes afectos. Ambas técnicas presentan una baja morbilidad postoperatoria.

Abstract Background Nutritional risk screening enables the risk of malnutrition to be detected from its beginning and before its clinical expression. Objective To demonstrate the usefulness of CONUT in nutritional screening at admission to a medium-to-long stay hospital. Methods Two longitudinal studies (2014n=121-2018n=155) were conducted using CONUT for the early detection of the risk of malnutrition and to evaluate the efficacy of the nutritional intervention. The response variables were the type and degree of malnutrition at admission and discharge. Results The prevalence of malnutrition/nutritional risk detected with CONUT at admission was 85.9%. With the Comprehensive Nutritional Assessment (CNA), the prevalence of malnutrition at admission was 81.0% (caloric malnutrition 5%, mixed malnutrition 17.4%, and protein malnutrition 58.7%). 5% of the patients at risk detected by CONUT still could not be diagnosed by the CNA. The values at discharge were caloric malnutrition 5%, mixed malnutrition 7.7%, and protein malnutrition 36.4%. CONUT enabled the evolution of the malnourished patient to be identified and followed up with greater sensitivity when compared to the anthropometric parameters. Nutritional intervention reduced the prevalence and severity of malnutrition, essentially improving it upon protein malnutrition correction. Malnourished patients showed a greater number of diagnostic categories. Significant differences were observed among the nutritional profiles of the most prevalent diseases. Conclusions CONUT enabled nutritional screening to be efficiently automated. The application of a structured protocol for the detection, monitoring and treatment of malnutrition made it possible to identify subsidiary patients to benefit from nutritional support, which was reflected in an improvement in nutritional status at discharge.

Resumen Fundamento El cribado de riesgo nutricional permite detectar el riesgo de desnutrición desde su inicio y antes de su manifestación clínica. Objetivo Evidenciar la utilidad del CONUT en el cribado nutricional al ingreso en un hospital de media-larga estancia. Métodos Se realizaron dos estudios longitudinales (2014n=121-2018n=155), utilizando CONUT para detectar precozmente el riesgo de desnutrición y evaluar la eficacia de la intervención nutricional. Las variables respuesta fueron el tipo y grado de desnutrición al ingreso y al alta. Resultados La prevalencia de desnutrición/riesgo nutricional detectada con CONUT al ingreso fue de 85,9%. Con la Valoración Nutricional Completa (VNC), la prevalencia de desnutrición al ingreso fue del 81,0% (5% desnutrición calórica, 17,4% mixta y 58,7% proteica). Un 5% de los pacientes en riesgo detectados mediante CONUT, todavía no podían ser diagnosticados mediante la VNC. Los valores al alta fueron 5% desnutrición calórica, 7,7% mixta y 36,4% proteica. CONUT permitió identificar y seguir la evolución del paciente desnutrido con mayor sensibilidad que los parámetros antropométricos. La intervención nutricional redujo la prevalencia y severidad de la desnutrición, mejorando fundamentalmente a expensas de corregir la desnutrición proteica. Los pacientes desnutridos presentaron mayor número de categorías diagnósticas. Se observaron diferencias significativas entre los perfiles nutricionales de las patologías más prevalentes. Conclusiones CONUT permitió automatizar eficientemente el cribado nutricional. La aplicación de un protocolo estructurado para la detección, monitorización y tratamiento de la desnutrición permitió identificar pacientes subsidiarios de beneficiarse del soporte nutricional, lo que se reflejó en una mejora del estado nutricional al alta.

Background and Objectives. Vacuum assisted therapy is considered as a valuable tool on the daily practice of plastic surgeons to treat complex injuries as a previous step until the definitive closure is achieved. However, the literature reporting its use on newborn patients is spare, and more research is needed in order to develop well established protocols for its use in this patients. Our objective is to share the clinical experience of our Pediatric Plastic Surgery Unit. Method. We present 3 cases of newborn patients in whom vacuum assisted therapy was highly effective to get a proper and definitive treatment of injuries from different ethology and localization. Conclusions. We consider vacuum assisted therapy as an excellent tool for the preparation of complex wounds as a previous step to the definitive surgical treatment on many patients, including newborns.

Antecedentes y Objetivos. La terapia de vacío es una herramienta adicional en el arsenal terapéutico actual del cirujano plástico y se aplica frecuentemente en el tratamiento de heridas complejas como paso intermedio hasta el tratamiento definitivo de las mismas, y como medida de disminución del tiempo que transcurre hasta su cierre. En el caso de los neonatos, es especialmente crítico conseguir disminuir este tiempo hasta el cierre definitivo de las heridas; sin embargo, la bibliografía al respecto no aporta suficiente información sobre el uso de esta modalidad terapéutica en épocas tempranas de la vida. Pretendemos por tanto compartir la experiencia clínica en este tema de nuestra Unidad de Cirugía Plástica Pediátrica. Material y Método. Describimos 3 casos en los que el uso de terapia de vacío permitió un tratamiento adecuado y definitivo de heridas de diferente etiología y diferentes localizaciones en pacientes neonatos. Conclusiones. Consideramos que la terapia de vacío constituye una excelente herramienta para la preparación de heridas complejas como paso previo al tratamiento definitivo y como una medida terapéutica segura también en neonatos.

Crocidosema (= Epinotia) aporema (Walsingham) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) é uma broca das axilas que se alimenta de soja e leguminosas forrageiras. Sua importância econômica é restrita à América do Sul onde pode alternar, ao longo do ano, entre leguminosas forrageiras e grãos. O feromônio sexual das fêmeas de C. aporema é composto de uma mistura 15:1 de (7Z,9Z)-dodeca-7,9-dieno-1-ol e acetato de (7Z,9Z)-dodeca-7,9-dienila. Com o intuito de desenvolver uma ferramenta para monitoramento deste inseto praga, os dois componentes do feromônio foram sintetizados e avaliou-se, em um experimento de campo no Uruguai, a captura de machos em armadilhas iscadas com diferentes misturas do feromônio sintético. Os dienos conjugados foram obtidos a partir de 2-pentin-1-ol e 1,7-heptanodiol, através da oxidação do primeiro, seguido pelo acoplamento de Wittig e redução da ligação tripla catalisada com Zn. A mistura 1:1 testada no campo foi a mais eficiente na captura dos machos. As armadilhas de feromônio foram atrativas por mais de 40 dias, mesmo com pequenas quantidades dos compostos (0,1 mg) impregnadas nos septos, e com baixas densidades populacionais dos insetos no campo.

Crocidosema (= Epinotia) aporema (Walsingham) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a bud borer that feeds on soybean and forage legumes. Its economic importance is restricted to South America, where it can alternate throughout the year between forage and grain legumes. The sex pheromone of C. aporema females is composed of a 15:1 mixture of (7Z,9Z)-dodeca-7,9-dien-1-ol and (7Z,9Z)-dodeca-7,9-dienyl acetate. Aiming at the development of a monitoring tool, it was synthesized both components of the pheromone and evaluated male captures in pheromone traps baited with different blends of synthetic pheromone, in an experimental soybean field in Uruguay. The conjugated dienes were obtained from 2-pentyn-1-ol and 1,7-heptanediol, by oxidation of the former, Wittig coupling and Zn-catalyzed reduction of the triple bond. The 1:1 mixture was the most efficient in capturing males. The pheromone traps were attractive for up to 40 days, even with small septum loads (0.1 mg) and low population levels.

Citrus é a principal fruteira no mundo, tendo, portanto, profundos impactos econômicos, sociais e culturais em nossa sociedade. Nos últimos anos, o conhecimento sobre a biologia reprodutiva de plantas tem aumentado consideravelmente, principalmente em função de trabalhos desenvolvidos com plantas-modelo. Todavia, a informação produzida nessas espécies nem sempre pode ser aplicada a citrus, fundamentalmente porque citrus é uma cultura arbórea perene com uma biologia reprodutiva muito peculiar e incomum. A regulação do crescimento e desenvolvimento do fruto em citrus é um fenômeno complexo e dependente de muitos fatores externos e internos que podem operar tanto seqüencialmente como simultaneamente. Os elementos e mecanismos pelos quais estímulos ambientes e endógenos afetam o crescimento do fruto vêm sendo interpretados, e esse conhecimento pode auxiliar a prover ferramentas que permitiriam otimizar a produção per se, além da obtenção de frutos com maior valor nutricional, o objetivo precípuo da Industria de Citrus. Neste artigo, revisam-se os avanços que vêm ocorrendo na fisiologia da frutificação de citrus durante os últimos anos; apresenta-se, também, o status atual de pesquisas mais relevantes nessa área.

Citrus is the main fruit tree crop in the world and therefore has a tremendous economical, social and cultural impact in our society. In recent years, our knowledge on plant reproductive biology has increased considerably mostly because of the work developed in model plants. However, the information generated in these species cannot always be applied to citrus, predominantly because citrus is a perennial tree crop that exhibits a very peculiar and unusual reproductive biology. Regulation of fruit growth and development in citrus is an intricate phenomenon depending upon many internal and external factors that may operate both sequentially and simultaneously. The elements and mechanisms whereby endogenous and environmental stimuli affect fruit growth are being interpreted and this knowledge may help to provide tools that allow optimizing production and fruit with enhanced nutritional value, the ultimate goal of the Citrus Industry. This article will review the progress that has taken place in the physiology of citrus fruiting during recent years and present the current status of major research topics in this area.

The morbidity of leptospirosis among children from Ciego de Avila Province was investigated from 1982 to 1995, and 253 cases were diagnosed. Isolated cases prevailed over those occurring in outbreaks. The 10-14 age group was predominant, followed by the 5-9 age group. According to sex, it was more frequently found in males than in females. One death occurred during this period. There was an increase of cases from July to August and October, and November showed a higher incidence of cases. Fever, headache and myalgia were the symptoms and signs more frequently reported, and 92% of cases showed no icterus. Acute fever, leptospirosis and viral meningoencephalitis were the presumptive diagnoses most frequently made. Possible sources of infection involving a larger number of cases were contact with low terrains and bathing in rivers, ponds and lakes. Regarding diagnosis, 162 cases were diagnosed by the microagglutination test and 91 by the hemolytic test. Canicola, Australis and Pomona were the serogroups more frequently detected by the microagglutination test.

Se analiza la morbilidad por leptospirosis humana en niños de la Provincia de Ciego de Ávila, Cuba en el período de 1982 a 1995 donde se diagnosticaron 253 casos. Los casos aislados predominaron sobre los presentados en brotes. Con respecto a los grupos de edades predominó el de 10 a 14 años seguido del grupo de 5 a 9 años. Fue más frecuente el sexo masculino que el femenino, en esta etapa se presentó un fallecido. En la presentación de casos por meses se reporta un incremento de enfermos a partir del mes de julio, siendo agosto, octubre y noviembre los meses de mayor incidencia; los síntomas y signos de mayor frecuencia fueron fiebre, cefalea y mialgia; el 92% de los casos eran anictéricos. Los diagnósticos presuntivos más planteados fueron síndrome febril agudo, leptospirosis y meningoencefalitis viral. En las posibles fuentes de infección el contacto con terrenos bajos y el baño en fuentes de agua dulce, presentaron el mayor número de casos. En lo referente al diagnóstico 162 se diagnosticaron por microaglutinación y 91 por prueba hemolítica. En la primera los serogrupos Canícola Australis y Pomona tuvieron el mayor reporte.
