Abstract The objective of this work was to propose a new stopping criterion to shorten the computing time of the PampaPlus genetic improvement software, while maximizing the genetic qualification index (GQI) of the progeny, controlling inbreeding, and avoiding unintended culling. Data from two beef-cattle herds integrating PampaPlus were used. Five mating scenarios were built using different numbers of sires (9 to 37) and dams (142 to 568). The analyzed algorithm inputs were: expected progeny differences, pedigree information, maximum inbreeding, maximum and minimum number of matches for each sire, and penalty weights for poor performance. The analyzed response variables were computing time and the GQI of the progenies. Three stopping criteria were used: original stopping criterion fixed at 1,000 iterations; saturation stopping criterion (SSC), based on GQI variance; and Bhandari’s stopping criterion (BSC), which includes the generation interval parameter. SSC and BSC reduced processing time in 24.43-53.64% and in 14.32-50.87%, respectively. BSC reaches solution in less time, without losses in GQI quality. BSC is generalizable and effective to reduce the processing time of mating recommendations.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi propor um novo critério de parada para diminuir o tempo de processamento do programa de melhoramento genético PampaPlus, além de maximizar o índice de qualificação genética (GQI) da progênie, controlar a endogamia e evitar o descarte não intencional. Foram utilizados dados de dois rebanhos integrantes do PampaPlus. Cinco cenários de acasalamento foram elaborados com diferentes números de touros (9 a 37) e vacas (142 a 568). Os dados analisados foram: diferenças esperadas na progênie, informações de pedigree, máxima endogamia, número máximo e mínimo de acasalamentos por touro, e penalidades para desempenho inferior. As variáveis analisadas foram tempo de processamento e o GQI das progênies. Foram utilizados três critérios de parada: critério de parada original, fixado em 1.000 iterações; critério de parada por saturação (SSC), baseado na variância do GQI; e critério de parada de Bhandari (BSC), que inclui o parâmetro de intervalo de gerações. O SSC e o BSC reduziram o tempo de processamento em 24,43-53,64% e em 14,32-50,87%, respectivamente. O BSC atinge solução em menos tempo, sem perda da qualidade do GQI. O BSC é generalizável e efetivo em reduzir o tempo de processamento das recomendações de acasalamento.

ABSTRACT Calcium and boron are important nutrients in pollen grain formation and seed production. As they are little mobile in plants, it is common to be supplied via foliar application. The objective of this research was to evaluate the production and quality of sweet pepper seeds with calcium and boron application directed to flowers and fruits. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with seven replications. Four treatments were evaluated: isolated calcium (0.2%) application, isolated boron (0.1%) application, combined application of calcium (0.2%) and boron (0.1%), and the control without calcium and without boron. The characteristics evaluated were number of pollen grains, number of seeds per fruit; 1000 seed weight; physiological quality of seeds (germination, first germination count, and germination speed index) and protein (albumin, globulin, prolamine and glutelin) contents in seeds. Both the application of calcium and boron did not affect the physiological quality of the seeds. Boron application reduced seed production and the 1000 seed weight, while calcium application increased the number of pollen grains, seed production and seed albumin content, and, therefore, the application of calcium in the production of sweet pepper seeds is recommended.

RESUMO O cálcio e o boro são nutrientes importantes na formação do grão de pólen e na produção de sementes. Por serem pouco móveis nas plantas, é comum o fornecimento via aplicação foliar. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a produção e qualidade das sementes de pimentão em função da aplicação de cálcio e boro direcionado às flores e frutos. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com sete repetições. Foram avaliados quatro tratamentos: aplicação isolada de cálcio (0,2%), aplicação isolada de boro (0,1%), aplicação conjunta de cálcio (0,2%) e boro (0,1%) e o controle sem cálcio nem boro. Foram avaliadas as características número de grãos de pólen, número de sementes por fruto; massa de 1000 sementes; qualidade fisiológica das sementes (germinação, primeira contagem de germinação e índice de velocidade de germinação) e teores de proteínas (albumina, globulina, prolamina e glutelina) nas sementes. Tanto a aplicação de cálcio como de boro não afetaram a qualidade fisiológica das sementes. A aplicação de boro reduziu a produção de sementes e a massa de mil sementes, enquanto a de cálcio aumentou a produção de grãos de pólen e de sementes e o teor de albumina nas sementes e, portanto, recomenda-se a aplicação de cálcio na produção de sementes de pimentão.

ABSTRACT Chenopodium quinoa Willd (quinoa) is a pseudo cereal that has been gaining prominence in production in several regions, due to increased demand in the consumer market. In the search to reduce productivity losses caused by pathogens, this work aimed to evaluate the cytogenotoxic potential of aqueous extracts of Syzygium aromaticum L., a possible alternative treatment for quinoa seeds. The seeds were treated with extracts produced from S. aromaticum flowers buds at 2, 4, 6 and 8%. A water control was included. Germination, first germination count, germination speed index, emergence and sanity were evaluated. The design was completely randomized, composed of 100 seeds in five treatments. The incidence of fungi was quantified and subsequently, the cytogenotoxicity test was performed on Allium cepa. It was observed that the treatment of quinoa seeds with aqueous extract of S. aromaticum only affected germination and vigor at the highest concentration used (8%) and reduced the incidence of fungi. A negative effect on cell division was demonstrated but no genotoxic effect. Used at 4% (m / v) it could be an alternative for the treatment of quinoa seeds.

RESUMEN Chenopodium quinoa Willd (quinoa) es un pseudo cereal que ha ido ganando protagonismo productivo en varias regiones debido al aumento de la demanda del mercado de consumo. En la búsqueda de la reducción de las pérdidas de productividad causadas por patógenos, este trabajo tuvo como objetivo evaluar el potencial citogenotóxico de extractos acuosos de Syzygium aromaticum, posible tratamiento alternativo de semillas de quinua. Las semillas fueron tratadas con extractos producidos a partir de flores de S. aromaticum al 2, 4, 6 y 8%. Se incluyó un control con agua. Se evaluó la germinación, primer recuento de germinación, índice de velocidad de germinación, emergencia y sanidad. El diseño fue completamente aleatorizado, compuesto por 100 semillas en cinco tratamientos. Se cuantificó la incidencia de hongos y posteriormente, se realizó la prueba de citogenotoxicidad en Allium cepa. Se observó que el tratamiento de semillas de quinua con extracto acuoso de S. aromaticum solo afectó la germinación y el vigor a la mayor concentración empleada (8%) y redujo la incidencia de hongos. Se demostró un efecto negativo sobre la división celular pero no efecto genotóxico. Empleado al 4% (m/v) podría ser una alternativa para el tratamiento de semillas de quinoa.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of Moraxella bovis and Moraxella bovoculi bacteria isolated from infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) outbreaks in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The genetic diversity among Moraxella spp. was evaluated by RAPD-PCR, JWP1-JWOPA07-PCR, ERIC-PCR and by sequencing the 16S-23S intergenic regions. Based on the dendrogram, two genetically differentiated clades were observed; 14 isolates were classified as M. bovis and 17 as M. bovoculi. Genetic distances between the M. bovis samples ranged from 0.0379 to 0.4285, while for M. bovoculi the dissimilarities ranged from zero to 0.7297. Alternatively, based on sequencing analyses of the 16S-23S intergenic region, M. bovis and M. bovoculi isolates were grouped into the same two different clades, but it was not possible to differentiate between isolates within clades. PCR techniques were demonstrated to be a satisfactory tool to unravel the genetic variability among Moraxella spp., while sequencing of the 16S-23S intergenic region was only able to differentiate two species of the Moraxella genus. Despite sampling geographically close regions, we demonstrate considerable genetic diversity in M. bovis and M. bovoculi strains and genetically distinct M. bovis strains co-infecting the same animal.

ABSTRACT Two hundred seventeen grass-finished Braford steers were assessed by ultrasonic scanning and subsequently harvested with their pistol hindquarters fabricated into boneless wholesale cuts. The Longissimus thoracis muscle area and subcutaneous fat depths were measured. The objectives of this study were: 1) to develop prediction equations for weights of the pistol hindquarter and high-value commercial cuts, and 2) to estimate sample size needed for experiments comparing pistol hindquarter retail product weight using either physically or ultrasonically measured carcass traits. Carcass measurements explained 44 % to 94 % of the variation in weights of individual cuts, whereas, measurements that were made using ultrasound explained 42 % to 90 % of the variation in the weights. Models used to predict the weight of pistol hindquarter retail product with carcass measures and ultrasound measures showed high coefficient of determination (R 2 = 0.92 and 0.97, respectively). Whether based on carcass or ultrasound measures, models used to estimate weight percentage of fat trimmed from the pistol hindquarter had lack of fit. In general, models for individual cuts weights that used traits measured with ultrasound as independent variables approached the accuracy of models using carcass traits. Thus, only slightly greater samples sizes were required to have equivalent power to detect differences in retail product weights using ultrasound measures. For experiments of equivalent power, differences in the number of animals required may be offset by avoiding costs for slaughter and fabrication.

ABSTRACT We aimed to evaluate the impact of using embryo transfer (ET) information on weaning weight estimated breeding values (EBV) and its accuracy. Data from Hereford and Braford cattle, raised under extensive conditions in Southern Brazil, were used. A model that included ET information in addition to maternal (genetic and permanent environmental) effects as a function of foster dams was compared to a model without ET information. Accuracy of both bulls and calves increased due to inclusion of ET records in 0.04 and 0.12 points, respectively. In general, the inclusion of ET records provided a greater amount of phenotypic variance and most accurate EBV for sires and progeny. The results obtained in this study encourage the use of ET phenotypic records in large-scale genetic evaluation programs, especially for bulls that have most of their progeny coming from ET. Most of the Brazilian genetic evaluation programs do not use phenotypic records of ET animals. Therefore, breeding values are predicted based only on parentage average, which implies in underestimated accuracies. Considering that ET has been widely used in Brazil and that such information improves genetic predictions, we suggest modifying the traditional adopted models by considering ET information in the Brazilian genetic evaluations.

Resumo A musculatura do assoalho pélvico (AP) exerce importante papel na estabilização pélvico-lombar durante atividades funcionais. Objetivo: Verificar a associação entre aptidão cardiorrespiratória percebida e a função do AP no controle por idade. Métodos: Foram avaliadas 269 mulheres adultas com a Escala de Capacidade Percebida e exame da função muscular do AP por palpação. Resultados: 70,2% das mulheres conseguiam manter apenas uma caminhada por 30 minutos. Aproximadamente 46,9% tinham contração objetiva fraca do AP. Estiveram associados a uma melhor função do assoalho pélvico: aptidão cardiorrespiratória percebida (conseguir correr por 30 minutos) e não apresentar queixas de perdas de urina no dia a dia e durante a prática de atividade física.

Abstract Pelvic floor (PF) muscles play an important role in stabilizing lumbar-pelvic area during functional activities. Objective: To investigate the association between the rating of perceived capacity and pelvic floor function controlling age. Methods: We evaluated 269 adult women with the Rating of Perceived Capacity and perineal muscle function palpation exam. Results: 70.2% of the women could just keep walking for 30 minutes. Approximately 4% failed to perform the contraction of the PF muscles and 46.9% had an objectively weak contraction. A better PF muscle function was associated with perceived cardiorespiratory fitness (being able to run for 30 minutes), not presenting complains of urine loss during daily life and during physical activity.

Resumen La musculatura del suelo pélvico (SP) ejerce un importante rol en la estabilización pélvico-lumbar en las actividades funcionales. Objetivo: Verificar la asociación entre percepción de la condición física y función del SP controlada por edad. Métodos: Se evaluó a 269 mujeres adultas con la Escala de Capacidad Percibida y el examen de función de la musculatura del suelo pélvico por palpación. Resultados: El 70,2% de las mujeres consiguieron mantener solamente una caminata de 30 minutos. Aproximadamente el 46,9% tenía una contracción objetiva débil del SP. Una mejor función del SP se asoció con la percepción de la condición cardiorrespiratoria (conseguir correr durante 30 minutos) y no manifestar quejas de pérdida de orina en el día a día y durante la práctica de las actividades físicas.

Resumo Objetivos: verificar a prevalência de dispareunia no terceiro trimestre gestacional e fatores associados. Métodos: foram avaliadas 202 puérperas. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados um questionário sociodemográfico; questionário ICIQ-Short Form; questionário de constipação intestinal e, para a avaliação da dispareunia foram utilizadas as questões do questionário FSFI. Os dados foram analisados com os testes qui quadrado, U de Mann Whitney e teste de Wilcoxon, p<0,05. Resultados: a prevalência de dispareunia no 3º trimestre gestacional foi de 48,5% (n=98), enquanto antes da gestação era de 15,3% (n=31). Os fatores associados à dispareunia nesse período foram: constipação no terceiro trimestre da gestação (p=0,05); incontinência urinária no terceiro trimestre da gestação (p<0,001) e dispareunia antes da gestação (p=0,01). A média de idade das mulheres com dispareunia foi significativamente maior que as sem dispareunia (p=0,01). Conclusões: a prevalência da dispareunia é alta no período gestacional e esta associada a alterações das funções do assoalho pélvico, como presença de incontinência urinária e constipação, além da presença prévia de dispareunia.

Abstract Objectives: to establish the prevalence of dyspareunia in the third gestational trimester and associated factors. Methods: 202 puerperal women were evaluated. Data was collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire; the ICIQ-Short Form questionnaire; an intestinal constipation questionnaire;and, questions from the FSFI questionnaire to evaluate dyspareunia. The data were analyzed using the chi-squared, Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon tests, p<0.05. Results: the prevalence of dyspareunia in the third gestational trimester was 48.5% (n=98), compared with 15.3% (n=31) before gestation. The factors associated with dyspareunia in this period were: constipation in the third trimester of gestation (p=0.05); urinary incontinence in the third trimester of gestation (p<0.001) and dyspareunia prior to gestation (p=0.01). The mean age of women with dyspareunia was significantly higher than that of those without dyspareunia (p=0.01). Conclusions: the prevalence of dyspareunia is high during gestation and is associated with alterations in the functions of the pelvic saddle, such as the presence of urinary incontinenceand constipation, and prior dyspareunia.

Introdução Estudos recentes com estudantes de Fisioterapia apontam para atitudes e percepções conflituosas sobre seu processo de aprendizagem durante a fase que antecede a prática clínica. Um desses aspectos trata-se da sexualidade humana, que surge no contato físico que exige a prática profissional. Objetivo Apresentar e descrever as principais etapas da elaboração de uma escala para avaliação de conhecimento, conforto, e atitudes de acadêmicos de fisioterapia frente à sexualidade humana (ECCAFS). Materiais e métodos A partir da literatura extraíram-se três domínios/dimensões: conhecimento, conforto e atitudes. Inicialmente 50 itens foram criados e distribuídos nas três dimensões, que passaram por uma avaliação de conteúdo, selecionou-se 47 itens que integraram a primeira versão da ECCAFS. Em termos empíricos, testou-se a coerência interna e a confiabilidade do instrumento em 248 estudantes. Resultados A análise fatorial exploratória carregou 37 itens em 4 fatores, que explicam 68% da variância total das respostas dos sujeitos e que confirmaram as dimensões propostas. A dimensão conforto dividiu-se em conforto e desconforto. A ECCAFS apresentou boa confiabilidade em termos de consistência interna alfa 0,861. Por fim, o instrumento foi aplicado a 30 estudantes de Fisioterapia para avaliação da clareza seguindo a exclusão de dois itens que resultaram em médias inferiores a 8,5. Conclusões Com o objetivo de facilitar o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, propõe-se a ECCAFS como o primeiro instrumento válido e confiável para avaliar o conhecimento, o conforto, o desconforto e as atitudes de acadêmicos de Fisioterapia frente à sexualidade humana.

Introduction Recent studies with Physiotherapy students pointed out for attitudes and conflicting perceptions on their learning process during the phase that precedes the clinical practice. One of those aspects is the human sexuality that appears in the close physical contact that demands Physiotherapists professional practices. Objective To build up the first educational/research instrument that evaluates the knowledge, the comfort and the attitudes of Physiotherapy undergraduate students (SKCAPS). Materials and methods From the literature we extracted three dimensions: knowledge, comfort and attitudes. Initially 50 items were created distributed in the three dimensions that went under the content evaluation, 47 items survived from this process and integrate the first version of SKCAPS. In empiric terms the intern coherence and the reliability of the instrument were tested in 248 students. Results The exploratory factorial analysis carried 37 items in 4 factors that explain 68% of the total variance of the answers of the subjects and that confirmed the proposed dimensions. The dimension comfort became separated in comfort and discomfort. The SKCAPS presented good reliability in terms of intern consistence alpha 0.861. Finally, the instrument was administered to 30 Physiotherapy students for evaluation of clarity following the exclusion of two items that resulted in averages below 8.5. Conclusions With the aim of improve the teaching/learning process, we propose the SKCAPS as the first worth and reliable instrument to evaluate the knowledge, the comfort, the discomfort and the attitudes regard of human sexuality among Physiotherapy students.

Background: The episodes of urinary incontinence may cause social embarrassment, sexual dysfunction and diminished work performance. Objectives: To identify the sensitivity, specificity and to propose cutoff points of different anthropometric indicators for the prediction of urinary incontinence (UI) in women. Methods: 500 women from Florianópolis, SC, Brazil, from a wide age range, were assessed using the Internatinal Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ - SF). The anthropometric indexes analyzed were: Waist Circumference (WC), Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist / Hip Ratio (WHR), Waist / Height Ratio (WHeR), Body Adiposity Index (IAC) and Conicity Index (Index C). For statistical analysis, association tests and calculations of sensitivity and specificity by ROC curves were used. Results: The prevalence of UI was 35%. There were significant correlations between anthropometric indicators and frequency and intensity of UI. The WHeR was the index with the largest area under the ROC curve (0.618). The WC was the most sensitive index and the index C had the highest specificity. Women with WC with 78.50 cm or more exhibited 1.24 increased prevalence of UI (p < 0.05). Those women with index C of 1.23 or more showed 1.23 greater prevalence of UI (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Anthropometric indicators, especially those which take into account the WC, showed significant associations and can be used as predictors of UI.

Introducción: Los episodios de pérdidas urinarias son causas de vergüenza social, disfunción sexual y bajo desempeño profesional. Objetivos: Identificar la sensibilidad y especificidad, y proponer puntos de corte de diferentes indicadores antropométricos para la predicción en mujeres de la incontinencia urinaria (IU). Métodos: Fueron evaluadas 500 mujeres de la Gran Florianópolis, SC, Brasil, de un amplio rango etario, a partir del cuestionario ICIQ - SF para incontinencia urinaria. Fueron analizados los siguientes indicadores antropométricos: Circunferencia de Cintura (CC), Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC), Índice Cintura/Cadera (ICC), Razón Cintura/Estatura (RCE), Índice de Adiposidad Corporal (IAC) e Índice de Conicidad (Índice C). Para el análisis estadístico de los datos, fueron utilizadas pruebas de asociación y cálculos de sensibilidad y especificidad por medio de curvas ROC. Resultados: La prevalencia de IU fue 35%. Se observaron correlaciones significativas entre los indicadores antropométricos y frecuencia e intensidad de pérdidas urinarias. La RCE fue el indicador antropométrico con mayor área sobre la curva ROC (0,618). La CC fue el indicador antropométrico con mayor sensibilidad y el Índice C, aquel con la mayor especificidad para la predicción de la IU. Mujeres con CC con 78,5 cm o más presentaron 1,24 vez más prevalencia de IU (p<0,05). Mujeres con Índice C de 1,23 puntos o más presentaron 1,23 vez más prevalencia de IU (p<0,05). Conclusiones: Los indicadores antropométricos, especialmente aquellos que llevan en consideración la CC, presentaron asociaciones significativas y pueden ser usados como indicativos de IU.

O objetivo foi verificar a prevalência de constipação e sua associação com fatores sociode-mográficos e relacionados à saúde em 605 mulheres adultas da grande Florianópolis/SC que realizaram exames de rastreamento de câncer de colo uterino. Este é um estudo transversal em que a constipação foi avaliada por meio dos critérios Roma III. Utilizou-se regressão de Poisson para p<0,05.Resultados:a prevalência de constipação segundo Roma III foi 25,1%. Aproximadamente 80% das mulheres com constipação referiram que a mesma tinha média/grande interferência em suas vidas. Na análise univariada, estiveram associados à constipação: renda per capita menor que 1 salário mínimo, estado de saúde ruim, insatisfacäo com o corpo, realizar atividade física no deslocamento pessoal e auto-relato de hemorroídas. Na análise multivariada e seguindo o modelo hierárquico, somente a associação com o auto-relato de hemorroidas foi preservada (RP = 4,45; IC = 3,49-5,68). Sugerem-se estratégias de enfrentamento da constipação no âmbito de atenção a saúde da mulher.

The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of intestinal constipation and its association with sociodemographic and health-related factors in 605 adult women of metropolitan Florianópolis/SC who underwent screening tests for cervical cancer. This is a cross-sectional study in which intestinal constipation was evaluated by Rome III criteria. We used Poisson regression considering p <0.05.Results:The prevalence of intestinal constipation according to Rome III was 25.1%. Approximately 80% of women with constipation reported that the problem caused medium/high interference in their lives. In univariate analysis, constipation was associated with: income per capita lower than 1 minimum wage, a poor health state, body dissatisfaction, physical activity during personal commuting and self-report of hemorrhoids. In multivariate analysis and following a hierarchical model, the association persisted only for self-report of hemorrhoids (PR = 4.45, CI = 3.49-5.68). Coping strategies for intestinal constipation in the health care of women are suggested.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi listar espécies de abelhas candidatas potenciais para análise de risco ambiental (ARA) de algodoeiros geneticamente modificados (GM) e identificar as espécies de abelhas mais adequadas para essa finalidade, de acordo com sua abundância e distribuição geográfica. Inventários de abelhas em flores de algodoeiro foram realizados nos estados da Bahia e do Mato Grosso, e no Distrito Federal. Durante 344 horas de amostragem, foram coletadas 3.470 abelhas de 74 espécies, em oito locais. Apis mellifera dominou as assembleias de abelhas em todos os locais. A amostragem em dois locais que não receberam aplicação de inseticidas foi suficiente para identificar as três species de abelhas silvestres mais comuns e de distribuição geográfica mais ampla: Paratrigona lineata, Melissoptila cnecomola e Trigona spinipes, as quais poderiam ser usadas como indicadoras de serviços de polinização na ARA. A ordenação indireta de espécies silvestres comuns revelou que os inseticidas reduziram o número de espécies de abelhas nativas e que a variação interanual nas assembleias de abelhas pode ser baixa. As curvas de acumulação de espécies raras de abelhas não saturaram, conforme esperado em regiões tropicais e megadiversas. As abordagens baseadas em espécies são limitadas para avaliar os impactos negativos de algodoeiros GM sobre a diversidade biológica de polinizadores. A taxa de acumulação de espécies raras de abelhas, no entanto, pode ser útil para avaliar os possíveis efeitos negativos de algodoeiros GM sobre a diversidade de abelhas.

The objective of this work was to list potential candidate bee species for environmental risk assessment (ERA) of genetically modified (GM) cotton and to identify the most suited bee species for this task, according to their abundance and geographical distribution. Field inventories of bee on cotton flowers were performed in the states of Bahia and Mato Grosso, and in Distrito Federal, Brazil. During a 344 hour sampling, 3,470 bees from 74 species were recovered, at eight sites. Apis mellifera dominated the bee assemblages at all sites. Sampling at two sites that received no insecticide application was sufficient to identify the three most common and geographically widespread wild species: Paratrigona lineata, Melissoptila cnecomola, and Trigona spinipes, which could be useful indicators of pollination services in the ERA. Indirect ordination of common wild species revealed that insecticides reduced the number of native bee species and that interannual variation in bee assemblages may be low. Accumulation curves of rare bee species did not saturate, as expected in tropical and megadiverse regions. Species-based approaches are limited to analyze negative impacts of GM cotton on pollinator biological diversity. The accumulation rate of rare bee species, however, may be useful for evaluating possible negative effects of GM cotton on bee diversity.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the genotype-environment interaction (GEI) in the body weight adjusted to 550 days of age (W550) of Polled Nellore cattle raised in Northeastern Brazil using reaction norms (RN) models. Hierarchical RN models included fixed effects for age of cow (linear and quadratic) and random effects for contemporary groups (CG) and additive genetic RN level and slope. Four RN hierarchical models (RNHM) were used. The RNHM2S uses the solutions of contemporary groups estimated by the standard animal model (AM) and considers them as environmental level for predicting the reaction norms and the RNHM1S, which jointly estimate these two sets of unknowns. Two versions were considered for both models, one with a homogeneous (Hm) and another with a heterogeneous (He) residual variance. The one-step homogeneous residual variance model (RNHM1SHm) offered better adjustment to the data when compared with other models. For the RNHM1SHm model, estimates of additive genetic variance and heritability increased with environment improvement (260.75±75.80 kg2 to 4298.39±356.56 kg2 and 0.22±0.05 to 0.82±0.01, for low- and high-performance environments, respectively). High correlation (0.97±0.01) between the intercept and the slope of RN shows that animals with higher genetic values respond better to environment improvement. In the evaluation of breeding sires with higher genetic values in the various environments using Spearman's correlation, values between 0 and 0.98 were observed, pointing to high reclassification, especially among genetic values obtained by the animal model in comparison with those obtained via RNHM1SHm. The existence of GEI is confirmed, and so is the need for specific evaluations for low, medium and high level production environments.

O objetivo do estudo foi investigar a prevalência da percepção da imagem corporal e a associação com indicadores antropométricos (IMC, perímetro da cintura, razão cintura/estatura e índice de conicidade) em mulheres que buscam por exame de rastreamento do câncer de colo uterino em Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. Avaliaram-se 736 mulheres (≥18 anos) que realizaram o exame de rastreamento de câncer de colo de útero em uma instituição de Florianópolis, SC. Medidas antropométricas (massa corporal, estatura, perímetro da cintura) para a determinação do índice de massa corporal, razão cintura/estatura e índice de Conicidade foram coletadas, além da percepção da imagem corporal (escala de nove silhuetas corporais). A prevalência de insatisfação com a imagem corporal foi de 73% (insatisfação pelo excesso = 67,4%; insatisfação pela magreza= 5,6%, p< 0,05). As mulheres com excesso de peso (RP=1,34; IC95%=1,23-2,49, p<0,001) e com índice de conicidade inadequado (RP=1,12; IC95%=1,02-1,24, p=0,016) apresentaram maior prevalência de insatisfação com a imagem corporal. A prevalência de insatisfação com a imagem corporal é elevada e as proporções de indicadores antropométricos inadequados requerem atenção. Ademais, aquelas com excesso de peso e com índice de conicidade inadequado apresentaram maior prevalência de insatisfação corporal. Neste sentido, verifica-se a necessidade de intervenções e implementações de programas voltados para o controle da massa corporal, redução dos fatores de risco para doenças cardiovasculares e da insatisfação com a imagem corporal em ambientes de atenção primária à saúde, como espaço dedicado a exames de rastreamento de câncer.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of body image perception and its association with anthropometric indicators (body mass index, waist circumference, waist-height ratio, and conicity index) in women undergoing cervical cancer screening at an institution in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. The study included 736 women (≥ 18 years). Anthropometric variables (weight, height, waist circumference) were collected for the determination of body mass index, waist-height ratio, and conicity index. Body image perception was evaluated using a nine-body silhouette scale. The prevalence of body image dissatisfaction was 73% (dissatisfaction due to excess weight = 67.4%; dissatisfaction due to thinness = 5.6%). Overweight women (PR=1.34; 95%CI=1.23-2.49, p<0.001) and women with an inadequate conicity index (PR=1.12; 95%CI =1.02-1.24, p=0.016) presented a higher prevalence of body image dissatisfaction. The prevalence of body image dissatisfaction is high and the proportion of inadequate anthropometric indicators requires attention. Moreover, body dissatisfaction was more prevalent among overweight women and women with an inadequate conicity index. These results indicate the need for interventions and for the implementation of programs designed to control body weight and to reduce cardiovascular risk factors and body image dissatisfaction in women attending primary health care centers, such as cancer screening services.
