ABSTRACT Copper is an essential element for beet; however, it needs to be made available in adequate quantities since this nutrient, which is a heavy metal, can cause toxicity to plants and/or humans. This study aimed to evaluate the agronomic performance of beet fertigated with copper in a semi-arid region of Brazil. Two experiments were carried out in complete randomized blocks, with five treatments (0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0 kg ha-1 of copper) and four replicates. In 2019, the copper content was within the adequate range for beet. In 2021, fertigation with copper above 0.8 kg ha-1 led to contents in the phytotoxicity range, which may explain the reduction in total and tuberous root dry mass accumulation. Fertilization with copper increased marketable yield in 2019 (17.32 t ha-1 at the dose of 3.9 kg ha-1 of copper), while, in 2021, there was no fit of the equations. Copper fertilization altered the tuberous root pH but did not influence the other tuberous root quality components. Plants fertilized with copper accumulated more copper in the leaves than in the tuberous root, with a maximum accumulation of 6.0 kg ha-1 of copper in 2019 and 2021. Fertilization with 3.9 kg ha-1 suits soils with low copper content.

RESUMO O cobre é um elemento essencial à beterraba, no entanto, é necessário disponibilizá-lo em quantidade adequada uma vez que esse nutriente, que é um metal pesado, pode causar toxicidade às plantas e, ou, ao ser humano. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho agronômico de beterraba fertirrigada com cobre em uma região semiárida do Brasil. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos em delineados em blocos casualizados ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos (0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 e 6.0 kg ha-1 de cobre) e quatro repetições. Em 2019, o teor de cobre estava dentro da faixa adequada para a beterraba. Em 2021, a fertirrigação com cobre acima de 0.8 kg ha-1 proporcionou teores na faixa de fitotoxicidade, o que pode explicar a redução no acúmulo de massa seca total e de raízes tuberosas. A adubação com cobre aumentou a produtividade comercial em 2019 (17.32 t ha-1 na dose de 3.9 kg ha-1 de cobre) enquanto que, em 2021, não houve modelo ajustado. A adubação alterou o pH da raiz tuberosa, mas não influenciou nos demais atributos de qualidade pós-colheita da raiz tuberosa. Plantas adubadas com cobre acumularam mais cobre nas folhas do que na raiz tuberosa, com máxima acumulada em 2019 e em 2021, na dose 6.0 kg ha-1 de cobre. A adubação com 3.9 kg ha-1 é adequada para solos com baixo teor de cobre.

ABSTRACT The semi-arid region faces problems related to water deficit and the presence of brackish water that compromise crop performance. Therefore, irrigation frequency can enhance the growth of agricultural crops of interest even under salt stress conditions. In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate different irrigation frequencies with water of higher and lower salinity on the agronomic performance of millet. The experiment was conducted from September to November 2020, in the experimental area of the Auroras Seedling Production Unit, belonging to the Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, Ceará, Brazil. The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, with five repetitions. The first factor corresponded to four irrigation frequencies (F1 - daily irrigation; F2 - irrigation every two days; F3 - irrigation every three days; F4 - irrigation every four days) and the second factor consisted of two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.3 and 5.0 dS m-1). Salt stress (5.0 dS m-1) negatively affected leaf area, plant height, stalk diameter, panicle length, and leaf, stem, panicle, and total dry mass of millet, under daily and four-day irrigation frequencies. Increasing the interval in irrigation frequency to beyond two days negatively affects the agronomic performance of millet crop, regardless of the electrical conductivity of water used (0.3 or 5.0 dS m-1). Under salt stress conditions, adopting irrigation frequencies between two and three days can be a viable alternative for irrigation management in pearl millet crop.

RESUMO A região semiárida apresenta problemas relacionados ao déficit hídrico e presença de água salobra que comprometem o desempenho das culturas. Assim, a frequência de irrigação pode promover melhores condições de desenvolvimento das culturas de interesse agrícola mesmo em condições de estresse salino. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes frequências de irrigação com água de maior e menor salinidade sobre desempenho agronômico do milheto. O experimento foi realizado no período de setembro a novembro de 2020, na área experimental da Unidade de Produção de Mudas Auroras, pertencente a Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, Ceará. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial 4 × 2, com cinco repetições. O primeiro fator corresponde a quatro frequências de irrigação (F1 - irrigação diária; F2 - irrigação a cada dois dias; F3 - irrigação a cada três dias; F4 - irrigação a cada quatro dias) e o segundo consistiu em dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0,3 e 5,0 dS m-1). O estresse salino (5,0 dS m-1) afetou negativamente a área foliar, altura da planta, diâmetro do colmo, comprimento da panícula, massa seca da folha, caule, panícula e total do milheto, sob irrigação diária e cada quatro dias. O aumento do intervalo na frequência de irrigação acima de dois dias afeta o desempenho agronômico do milheto, independente da condutividade elétrica da água (0,3 ou 5,0 dS m-1). Em condições de estresse salino, adotar frequências de irrigação entre dois e três dias pode ser uma alternativa viável para o manejo da irrigação do milheto.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report outcomes from the largest multicenter series of penile cancer patients undergoing video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL). Materials and Methods: Retrospective multicenter analysis. Authors of 21 centers from the Penile Cancer Collaborative Coalition-Latin America (PeC-LA) were included. All centers performed the procedure following the same previously described standardized technique. Inclusion criteria included penile cancer patients with no palpable lymph nodes and intermediate/high-risk disease and those with non-fixed palpable lymph nodes less than 4 cm in diameter. Categorical variables are shown as percentages and frequencies whereas continuous variables as mean and range. Results: From 2006 to 2020, 210 VEIL procedures were performed in 105 patients. Mean age was 58 (45-68) years old. Mean operative time was 90 minutes (60-120). Mean lymph node yield was 10 nodes (6-16). Complication rate was 15.7%, including severe complications in 1.9% of procedures. Lymphatic and skin complications were noted in 8.6 and 4.8% of patients, respectively. Histopathological analysis revealed lymph node involvement in 26.7% of patients with non-palpable nodes. Inguinal recurrence was observed in 2.8% of patients. 10y- overall survival was 74.2% and 10-y cancer specific survival was 84.8%. CSS for pN0, pN1, pN2 and pN3 were 100%, 82.4%, 72.7% and 9.1%, respectively. Conclusion: VEIL seems to offer appropriate long term oncological control with minimal morbidity. In the absence of non-invasive stratification measures such as dynamic sentinel node biopsy, VEIL emerged as the alternative for the management of non-bulky lymph nodes in penile cancer.

In this work, plasma nitriding (PN) and cathode cage plasma deposition (CCPN) treatments were carried out with temperatures of 400 and 450 °C to evaluate the modifications caused on the surface of pure niobium samples. XRD, SEM, Vickers microhardness, and sphere-disk analyses were used to characterize the coatings’ composition, morphology, hardness, and wear resistance. The results showed that the treated samples increased hardness and wear resistance, with the sample submitted to CCPN at 450 °C presenting the best tribological behavior.

ABSTRACT Grafting has been increasingly used to overcome soilborne pathogens. The commercial rootstock hybrids AF-8253 (Sakata) and Fortaleza (Takii), as well as Embrapa’s new hybrid, BRS Acará, were evaluated as rootstocks for the bell pepper hybrids Margarita (Syngenta) and Pampa (Clause) as scions, under natural infestation of Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum, as well as upon artificial inoculation with a) ten Ralstonia isolates, b) one Phytophthora capsici isolate, c) Meloidogyne incognita race 1, and d) Meloidogyne enterolobii (only rootstocks for c and d). Grafted bell peppers consistently showcased a higher productivity than did non-grafted ones under natural R. pseudosolanacearum infestation, and the rootstock genotype affected fruit size distribution. Rootstocks presented higher resistance than did commercial bell pepper hybrids (scions) for 6 out of 10 Ralstonia isolates. AF-8253 and BRS Acará displayed an immune-like response to P. capsici, while Fortaleza was moderately resistant (25% symptomatic plants) and the bell pepper hybrids (scions) were susceptible (100% symptomatic plants). Rootstocks were immune to M. incognita race 1, but slightly (AF-8253 and BRS Acará) or moderately (Fortaleza) resistant to M. enterolobii. Grafting with BRS Acará, as well as with AF-8253 or Fortaleza, is recommended for managing bacterial wilt, Phytophthora blight, and root-knot nematodes.

ABSTRACT Due to the increase in water and energy tariffs, in addition to the limited amount of these resources, the automation of irrigation can help farmers to increase the production of agricultural crops. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate different irrigation managements between manual and automatic in the production of arugula in a protected environment, in order to determine the productive potential in the cultivation of vegetables. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks with four irrigation management strategies, divided into automatic and manual managements: automatic irrigation management via soil (IAS); automatic irrigation management via climate (IAC); manual irrigation management via soil (IMS) and manual irrigation management via climate (IMC). The treatments were applied to the arugula ( Eruca Sativa L. ) crop during two production cycles, and their effect on biophysical aspects of plants and irrigation water productivity was evaluated. For the fresh mass variable, the IAC (17.75 g plant-1), IAS (12.38 g plant-1), and IMC (8.63 g plant-1) treatments, in the 1st cycle, were statistically similar to each other, whereas in the 2nd cycle, only the IAC (16.29 g plant-1) and IAS (19.80 g plant-1) treatments had this statistical similarity. Automatic managements can be recommended based on this research, however, considering the financial difficulties of the small farmer, IMC may be a desirable option in unfavorable economic conditions.

RESUMO A cobertura morta vegetal poderá atenuar os efeitos deletérios dos sais presentes na água de irrigação. Objetivou-se no presente estudo avaliar o efeito da salinidade da água de irrigação e da cobertura morta vegetal no crescimento e na produção da cultura da beterraba. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em Redenção, Ceará. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 × 4, com cinco repetições, correspondentes a dois valores de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação - CEa: água de abastecimento - 0,3 dS m-1 e solução salina - 5,8 dS m-1; e quatro tipos de cobertura morta (casca de arroz, bagana de carnaúba, restos de culturas espontânea e sem cobertura - tratamento controle). O uso de cobertura morta vegetal mitigou os efeitos dos sais da água de irrigação para altura de planta, área foliar, diâmetro do caule e da raiz tuberosa. O aumento da condutividade elétrica na água de irrigação afetou negativamente o número de folhas, comprimento da raiz tuberosa e a produção, porém aumentou os sólidos solúveis da cultura da beterraba.

ABSTRACT Vegetal mulching can mitigate the harmful effects of salts present in irrigation water. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of irrigation water salinity and mulching on the growth and yield of beet crops. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at Redenção, Ceará State. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 × 4 factorial scheme, with five replicates, composed of two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water - ECw: tap water - 0.3 dS m-1 and saline solution - 5.8 dS m-1; and four types of mulching (rice hulls, carnauba bagana, crop residues, and a control treatment without soil cover). The use of vegetal mulching, mitigated the effects of irrigation with saline water on the variables plant height, leaf area, stem diameter, and tuberous root. The increase of the salt concentration in irrigation water negatively affected the number of leaves, length of the tuberous root, and yield. But, it increased the soluble solids in the beet crop.

RESUMO A irrigação com água salina afeta o desempenho agronômico da cultura do milho, no entanto, a utilização de cobertura morta vegetal pode mitigar o estresse salino e promover aumento na produtividade. Desta forma, objetivou-se avaliar a produtividade da cultura do milho submetido a diferentes níveis salinos na água de irrigação, na presença e ausência de cobertura morta vegetal. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 2 × 2, sendo o primeiro fator a salinidade da água de irrigação (1,0 e 4,0 dS m-1) e o segundo, com e sem cobertura morta e cinco repetições. As variáveis analisadas foram: massa da espiga com e sem palha e do sabugo, diâmetro da espiga, comprimento da espiga e a produtividade. A água de irrigação com maior condutividade elétrica afetou negativamente a massa da espiga com e sem palha, diâmetro e comprimento de espiga. O uso de cobertura vegetal no solo aumentou a massa da espiga com e sem palha, diâmetro e comprimento de espiga. A agua de maior salinidade (4,0 dS m-1) reduz a produtividade da cultura do milho, porém com menor intensidade na presença da cobertura vegetal morta.

ABSTRACT Irrigation with saline water affects the agronomic performance of the maize crop; however, the use of vegetal mulch may mitigate salt stress and promote an increase in yield. In this way, this study aimed to evaluate the grain yield of the maize plants submitted to different water salinity levels in the presence and absence of mulch. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial scheme. The first factor was the salinity of the irrigation water (1.0 and 4.0 dS m-1) and the second, with and without mulch, and five replicates. The variables analyzed were: unhusked ear mass, husked ear mass, cob mass, straw mass, husked ear diameter, husked ear length, and yield. The irrigation water with higher electrical conductivity affects negatively the ear mass with and without straw, ear diameter and ear length. The use of vegetation cover on the soil increased the unhusked ear mass with and without straw, ear diameter and length. The water with higher salinity (4.0 dS m-1) reduces the maize grain yield but with less intensity in the presence of mulch.

RESUMO Embora a mandioca seja uma cultura pouco exigente em termos de fertilidade química do solo, a escassez de nutrientes afeta a produtividade da cultura, sendo comum o seu cultivo em solos de baixa fertilidade natural, como ocorre nos Tabuleiros Costeiros. Nesse contexto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os atributos físicos e químicos de solos cultivados com mandioca sob diferentes manejos. O estudo foi realizado no município de São Felipe, inserido na unidade paisagística Tabuleiros Costeiros, Bahia, Brasil. Quinze propriedades foram selecionadas para avaliar as características dos solos cultivados com mandioca sob diferentes manejos. As coletas de solo foram realizadas durante os meses de outubro e novembro de 2018, período de seca na região. A textura média do solo foi predominante nas diferentes áreas de manejo de cultivo de mandioca. A maioria das áreas apresentou pH abaixo da faixa recomendada para mandioca (5,5 a 6,5), saturação por base abaixo de 50% e baixo teor de fósforo, potássio, cálcio e magnésio, de acordo com as necessidades nutricionais da cultura. Os dois primeiros componentes principais explicaram 84,65% da variância. Assim, foi possível verificar que a diversidade de manejo das áreas de produção de mandioca resulta em alta ou muito alta variabilidade dos atributos químicos do solo. Os atributos pH, P, Al, H + Al, V, CEC e MO são os mais representativos na distinção dos solos das áreas de cultivo de mandioca avaliadas.

ABSTRACT Although cassava is an undemanding crop in terms of soil chemical fertility, the scarcity of nutrients affects crop productivity, and it is common to cultivate it in soils with low natural fertility, as occurs in Coastal Tablelands. In this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the physical and chemical attributes of soils cultivated with cassava under different managements. The study was carried out in the municipality of São Felipe, located in the landscape unit of Coastal Tablelands, Bahia state, Brazil. Fifteen properties were selected to evaluate the characteristics of soils cultivated with cassava under different types of management. Soil sampling was carried out during the months of October and November 2018, a dry period in the region. The medium-textured soil was predominant in the different areas of management of cassava cultivation. Most areas showed pH below the recommended range for cassava (5.5 to 6.5), base saturation below 50% and low phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium contents, according to the crop’s nutritional needs. The first two principal components explained 84.65% of the total variance. Thus, it was possible to verify that the diversity of management of cassava production areas results in high or very high variability of soil chemical attributes. The attributes pH, P, Al, H + Al, V, CEC and OM are the most representative in the distinction of soils of the cassava cultivation areas evaluated.

Abstract: Introduction: Andes Pediatrica/Revista Chilena de Pediatría (AP/RChP), maintains a document profile that covers all scientific publication formats, from Original Articles (OAs) to Letters to the Editor. Adequate editorial planning requires a long-term bibliometric analysis. Objective: To describe the profile of OAs published in AP/RChP in the last two decades. Methodology: From a controlled vocabulary list, the thematic and methodological descriptors of the documents from 2000 to 2020 were standardi zed. Nationality, sex, and profession of the authors, document typology, and design of the OAs were analyzed, as well as the descriptors cited in Google Scholar and the most visited descriptors on the journal’s website in recent years. Results: 1738 manuscripts were published, 580 (33.4%) were OAs, with an increase from 59 to 129 OAs between the first and last three years. The average number of authors was higher for OAs (4.7) than for non-originals (3.0). In 2020, there were nine multicenter collaborations from different countries. The number of OAs by foreign authors increased from 3.3% to 28.7%, the first authorship by non-medical professionals increased from 15% to 31%, and there was a predominance of female first authors (ratio 1.4/1). Of the OAs, 9.1% were experimental, 3.3% were qualitative and the rest were quantitative observational. The most published descriptors were Nutrition, Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, and Pneumonology, while the most cited descriptors were Nutrition, Neonatology, and Oral Health, with no trend among the most visited. 44% of the most cited articles and 35% of the most visited articles were OAs. Conclusions: A significant increase in published OAs stands out, with a low frequency of experimental designs. Authors of different na tionalities and professions participated. OAs represent one-third of the visits and almost half of the citations, with no correlation between the most published and most cited descriptors.

Resumen: Introducción: Andes Pediatrica/Revista Chilena de Pediatría (AP/RCHP), mantiene un perfil de documentos que abarca todos los formatos de la publicación científica, desde Artículos Originales (AO) hasta Cartas al Editor. Para una adecuada planificación editorial se requiere un análisis bibliométrico de largo plazo. Objetivo: Describir el perfil de AO publicados en AP/RCHP en las últimas 2 décadas. Me todología: Desde una lista de vocabulario controlado se estandarizaron los descriptores temáticos y metodológicos de los documentos del 2000 al 2020. Se analizó nacionalidad, género y profesión de los autores, tipología documental y diseño de los AO. Se analizó los descriptores citados en Google Schoolar y los más visitados en el sitio web de la revista en los últimos años. Resultados: Se publicaron 1.738 manuscritos, 580 (33,4%) AO, con un incremento de 59 a 129 AO entre el primer y último trienio. El promedio de autores fue superior para los AO (4,7) que para los no originales (3,0); el año 2020 hubo 9 colaboraciones multicéntricas de distintos países. Los AO de autores extranjeros incrementaron de 3,3 a 28,7%, la autoría en primera posición de profesionales no médicos aumentó de 15 a 31%, hubo predominio de primer autor femenino (relación 1,4/1). De los AO 9,1% eran experimentales, 3,3% cualitativos y el resto cuantitativos observacionales. Los descriptores más publicados fueron Nutrición, Infectología, Neonatología y Broncopulmonar, mientras que los más citados fueron Nutrición, Neonatología y Salud Oral, sin tendencia entre los más visitados. El 44% de los artículos más citados y el 35% de los más visitados fueron AO. Con clusiones: Destaca un importante incremento de AO publicados, con baja frecuencia de diseños experimentales. Hubo participación de autores de distintas nacionalidades y profesiones. Los AO contribuyeron a un tercio de las visitas y casi la mitad de las citas, sin demostrarse correlación entre los descriptores más publicados y los más citados.

RESUMO Devido à escassez de informações das espécies nativas, as pastagens naturais têm sido substituídas por espécies exóticas e potencialmente invasoras como o capim canarana (Echinochloa pyramidalis). Assim, O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar o crescimento do capim-açú e do capim-antílope, em diferentes doses de N e K, para melhor compreender o potencial do capim-açú para ser utilizado como forragem. O experimento foi conduzido em vasos, em um esquema fatorial 2 × 5 × 2 (2 espécies × 5 doses de N × 2 doses de K) com quatro repetições, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As doses de N de 0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mg dm-3 foram combinadas com 10 e 30 mg dm-3 K2O. O capim-açú produz mais matéria seca de folhas e menos matéria seca do caule acima do solo, utilizando menor dose de nitrogênio, quando comparado ao exótico capim canarana. A produção de folhas, caules e matéria seca total de ambas as espécies estudadas não responde às doses de potássio.

ABSTRACT The Maranhão floodplain is dominated by native grasses like capim-açú (Paspalum plicatulum, Mich.). Due to scarce information on nutrient demands of native species, farmers are replacing native pastures by exotic and potentially invasive species such as antelope grass (Echinochloa pyramidalis, Lam). The aim of this study was to compare the growth of capim-açú and antelope grass, under varying N and K doses, to better understand the potential of capim-açú to be used as forage. The experiment was carried out in pots, consisting of a 2 × 5 × 2 factorial scheme (2 species × 5 N doses × 2 K doses) with four repetitions, in a completely randomized design. The N doses of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3 were combined with 10 and 30 mg dm-3 K2O. The capim-açú produces higher leaf to stem ratio aboveground by using lower nitrogen and potassium doses than antelope grass. Leaf, stalk, and total dry matter production of both studied species do not respond to potassium doses.

Abstract BINGO (BAO from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations) is a unique radio telescope designed to map the intensity of neutral hydrogen distribution at cosmological distances, making the first detection of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) in the frequency band 980 MHz - 1260 MHz, corresponding to a redshift range 0.127 < z < 0.449. BAO is one of the most powerful probes of cosmological parameters and BINGO was designed to detect the BAO signal to a level that makes it possible to put new constraints on the equation of state of dark energy. The telescope will be built in Paraíba, Brazil and consists of two \thicksim 40m mirrors, a feedhorn array of 50 horns, and no moving parts, working as a drift-scan instrument. It will cover a 15 ^{\circ} ∘ declination strip centered at \sim \delta ∼ δ =-15 ^{\circ} ∘, mapping \sim ∼ 5400 square degrees in the sky. The BINGO consortium is led by University of São Paulo with co-leadership at National Institute for Space Research and Campina Grande Federal University (Brazil). Telescope subsystems have already been fabricated and tested, and the dish and structure fabrication are expected to start in late 2020, as well as the road and terrain preparation.

Abstract Brazil, the world’s largest citros producer, yields around 19 million tons per year and exports most part of its production as orange juice. Essential oils (EOs) extracted from leaves, fruit and flowers of many species of the genus Citrus have been widely used as the result of their promising bioactivities. The fungus Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb.) Vuill., an agent which causes soft rot in fruit, has been considered one of the main factors that cause postharvest diseases, thus, leading to major economic losses in agribusiness. This research aimed at evaluating the chemical composition and in vitro antifungal effect of EOs from two varieties of fresh Citrus sinensis (lima orange and bahia navel orange) peel on mycelial growth of R. stolonifer. EOs were obtained by hydrodistillation, which was carried out by a Clevenger-type apparatus, while their chemical composition was analyzed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Limonene was the major monoterpene identified in EOs from lima orange (95.2%) and bahia navel orange (93.2%) peel. EOs from lima orange and bahia navel orange inhibited 91.95% and 80.05% mycelial growth of R. stolonifer, respectively, at the highest dose under evaluation (100 µL). This study revealed the biotechnological potential of EOs extracted from fruit peel of two varieties of citros which may applied to biofilm preparation, so as to coat and preserve different types of fruit.

RESUMO O cultivo em substrato vem ganhando interesse dos produtores de hortaliças, entretanto ainda são recentes as informações técnicas para muitas culturas, a exemplo do maxixeiro, especialmente quanto à solução nutritiva. Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho de três cultivares de maxixeiro (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá e Liso Gibão) cultivadas em fibra de coco e fertigadas com soluções nutritivas de diferentes concentrações de nutrientes (50, 75, 100 e 125% da recomendação para o meloeiro), utilizando o delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 × 4, com quatro repetições e parcelas constituídas por três plantas. Avaliaram-se variáveis de crescimento e produtividade. De forma geral, a cv. Liso de Calcutá produziu frutos mais pesados (35,69 g fruto-1), contudo a cv. Liso Gibão produziu em média 21,6 frutos planta-1 apresentando-se mais produtiva (542,19 g planta-1). As cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá são menos exigentes em nutrientes. Para obter o maior rendimento de frutos do maxixeiro cultivado em fibra de coco devem-se realizar as fertigações utilizando soluções nutritivas com 50% da concentração de nutrientes para as cultivares Do Norte e Liso de Calcutá, enquanto para a cv. Liso Gibão recomenda-se utilizar solução nutritiva com 75% da concentração de nutrientes recomendada para o cultivo do meloeiro.

ABSTRACT Substrate cultivation has been gaining interest from vegetable producers, however technical information for many crops is still recent, such as the gherkin, especially regarding the nutrient solution. This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the performance of three gherkin cultivars (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá and Liso Gibão) grown in coconut fiber and fertigated with nutrient solutions of different concentrations (50, 75, 100 and 125% of the recommendation for melon), using a randomized block design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four repetitions and plots composed of three plants. Growth and production variables were evaluated. In general, cv. Liso de Calcutá produced heavier fruits (35.69 g fruit-1), however cv. Liso Gibão produced an average of 21.6 fruits plant-1, being more productive (542.19 g planta-1). The cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá were less demanding on nutrients. In order to obtain the highest production of gherkin fruits cultivated in coconut fiber, fertigations must be carried out using nutrient solutions diluted in 50% for the cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá, while for cv. Liso Gibão it is recommended to use nutrient solution diluted in 75% of the concentration of nutrients recommended for the cultivation of melon.
