RESUMO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar se os índices obtidos com Canopeo e GreenSeeker (NDVI) em Megathyrsus maximum são capazes de estimar altura de plantas, massa de matéria seca, componentes morfológicos e teor de proteína bruta e fibra em detergente neutro em diferentes dias de crescimento. Cinco parcelas de 5 × 25 m de capim M.maximum foram definidas: sub parcelas de 1 × 1 m foram avaliadas a cada três dias, nas quais a pastagem apresenta 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27 e 30 dias de rebrota. A sub parcela foi avaliada quanto à altura do dossel e acúmulo de massa. O índice do Canopeo (IC) obtido em maior altura foi menor do que o obtido em menor altura. A maior altura de medição aumentou o NDVI em relação a 0,10 m. Os maiores índices foram observados desde 18 dias de rebrota. Exceto para o IC avaliado a 0,10 m de altura, os índices não foram correlacionados com a composição química da forragem. IC e NDVI correlacionaram-se positivamente com a altura da planta, massa de MS e índice foliar, e negativamente com o índice de colmos. Assim, menores alturas de avaliação para IC e NDVI podem ser um bom preditor da altura da forragem. Valores de 0,83 e 85,8 para NDVI e IC, respectivamente, indicam um momento adequado para o início do pastejo de Megathyrsus maximum.

ABSTRACT: This study determined whether Canopeo and GreenSeeker measurements in Megathyrsus maximus can estimate plant height, dry matter mass, morphological components, and content of crude protein and neutral detergent fiber at different days of growth. Five plots of 5 × 25m M. maximus grass were defined: subplots of 1×1m were evaluated every three days, in which the pasture shows 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30 days of regrowth. The subplot was evaluated for canopy height and mass accumulation. The canopeo index (CI) obtained at a higher height was lower than those obtained at a smaller height. Higher measurement height increased the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) relative to 0.10 m. The highest indexes were observed since 18 d of regrowth. Except for the CI evaluated at 0.10 m of height, the indexes were not correlated to the chemical composition of the forage. The CI and NDVI were positively correlated to plant height, dry matter mass, and leaf index, whereas both were negatively correlated with stalk index. Thus, lower evaluation heights for CI and NDVI can be a good predictor of forage height. Values of 0.83 and 85.8 for NDVI and CI, respectively, indicated an appropriate time to start the grazing of M. maximus.

ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated germination, production, and morphological composition of Urochloabrizantha intercropped with corn and sorghum; and silage fermentation losses and aerobic stability of intercrop silage using microbial inoculant. Twenty experimental parcels (5.0 × 3.6 m) were used in a blocked randomized design to evaluate four treatments obtained from a 2 × 2 factorial arrangements: I) crop material (corn vs. sorghum) and II) Brachiaria (U. brizantha) establishment (present vs. absent). Corn- and sorghum-brachiaria integrated systems showed similar brachiaria germination, forage yield, and morphological composition. There was no crop and brachiaria interaction effect on the variables related to corn and sorghum plants and the total productivity. Brachiaria decreased the stem diameter and increased the population of maize and sorghum plants. However, it did not affect systems productivity. Microbial inoculation did not affect corn silage effluent losses and reduced sorghum silage effluent losses. In corn silage, brachiaria did not affect gas losses, while in sorghum silage, brachiaria increased the gas losses. Total losses were higher in sorghum silage than in corn silage, which resulted in a lower DM recovery. The treatments did not affect the pH of the silage after aerobic exposure. However, brachiaria increased silage temperature evaluated at 32 and 40 hours after aerobic exposure. Thus, corn or sorghum consortium has similar brachiaria morphological composition and productivity. Moreover, in intercropped silage, brachiaria increases effluent losses and reduces silage aerobic stability.

RESUMO: O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar a germinação, produção e composição morfológica de Urochloabrizantha consorciada com milho e sorgo, perdas de fermentação da silagem e estabilidade aeróbia da silagem consorciada com inoculante microbiano. Vinte parcelas experimentais (5.0 × 3.6 m) foram usadas em um delineamento em blocos casualizados para avaliar quatro tratamentos em arranjo fatorial 2 x 2: I) Cultura (milho vs. sorgo) e II) Estabelecimento da Brachiaria (U. brizantha) (presente vs. ausente). Os sistemas integrados milho e sorgo-brachiaria apresentaram germinação, produção de forragem e composição morfológica semelhante. Não houve efeito da interação cultura e braquiária sobre as variáveis relacionadas às plantas de milho e sorgo e a produtividade total. A brachiaria diminuiu o diâmetro do caule e aumentou a população de plantas de milho e sorgo. No entanto, não afetou a produtividade dos sistemas. A inoculação microbiana não afetou as perdas de efluente da silagem de milho e reduziu as perdas de efluente da silagem de sorgo. Na silagem de milho, a brachiaria não afetou as perdas de gás, enquanto na silagem de sorgo, a brachiaria aumentou as perdas de gás. As perdas totais foram maiores na silagem de sorgo do que na silagem de milho, o que resultou em menor recuperação da MS. Os tratamentos não afetaram o pH da silagem pós exposição aeróbia. Contudo, a brachiaria aumentou a temperatura da silagem 32 e 40 horas após exposição aeróbia. Portanto, os consórcios milho e sorgo-brachiaria apresentam composição morfológica e produtividade semelhantes. Além disso, na silagem consorciada, a brachiaria aumenta as perdas por efluentes e reduz a estabilidade aeróbia.

RESUMO Com a expansão da pecuária na região amazônica, um alto percentual de pastagem está degradada e improdutiva. São necessárias novas estratégias, incluindo o uso de espécies de árvores nativas, para obter simultaneamente benefícios econômicos e ecossistêmicos. Este estudo objetivou avaliar os efeitos de cinco espécies arbóreas nativas multifuncionais na fertilidade do solo e qualidade da forragem em pastagens de Urochloa brizantha na Amazônia Meridional. Para isso, amostras de solo e forragem foram coletadas sob a copa e áreas adjacentes de 25 árvores isoladas pertencentes a cinco espécies durante uma estação seca e uma chuvosa. A presença de árvores nativas afetou positivamente o nível de potássio, calcio e magnésio no solo, bem como aumentou a matéria mineral e proteína bruta da forragem, especialmente na estação seca, sugerindo um efeito protetivo contra a seca sazonal. As espécies arbóreas tiveram efeitos variáveis sobre a fertilidade do solo e qualidade da forragem. O solo sob Apeiba tibourbou apresentou aumento nos teores de potássio, enquanto a forragem sob Handroanthus serratifolius apresentou melhor qualidade no que se refere a proteínas e fibras. Nosso estudo indica a importância da diversificação dos sistemas silvipastoris na Amazônia por meio do uso de espécies arbóreas nativas, contribuindo para o desenho de estratégias silvipastoris inovadoras na região. Espécies arbóreas multifuncionais comuns de ampla distribuição natural podem ser utilizadas como um aspecto complementar do manejo de pastagens para fornecer um efeito protetivo contra a seca, aprimorar a ciclagem de nutrientes e aumentar a qualidade da forragem.

ABSTRACT With the expansion of livestock in the Amazon region, a high percentage of pasture areas are degraded and unproductive. Novel strategies are needed, including the use of native tree species, to simultaneously achieve economic and ecosystem benefits. This study aimed at assessing the effects of five multipurpose native tree species on soil fertility and forage quality of Urochloa brizantha pastures in the southern Amazon. Soil and forage samples were collected under the crown and adjacent to 25 isolated trees belonging to five species during a dry and a rainy season. The presence of native trees positively affected the level of potassium, calcium and manganese in the soil, as well as the mineral matter and crude protein of the forage, especially in the dry season, suggesting a protective effect against the seasonal drought. The tree species had variable effects on soil fertility and forage quality. Soil under Apeiba tibourbou had higher potassium levels, while the forage under Handroanthus serratifolius had higher protein and fiber content. Our results indicate that it is important to diversify silvopastoral systems in the Amazon through the use of native tree species, contributing to the design of novel silvopastoral strategies in the region. Common multipurpose tree species with widespread natural distribution could be used as a complementary aspect of pasture management to provide a protective effect against drought, contribute to enhanced nutrient cycling and even increase forage quality.

Objective to understand how caregivers experience surgical children’s fasting and how they realize their thirst in the perioperative period. Methods descriptive study of qualitative nature, carried out with 15 caregivers of children between 1 and 12 years old after surgery in a teaching hospital. For analysis, the Collective Subject Discourse method was used. Results four thematic units emerged: surgical children in the presence of fasting and thirst; realizing thirst in surgical children; experiencing and facing the period of fasting and thirst with children; realizing the action of the health team in the presence of children’s thirst. For families, the experience of fasting is permeated with feelings like helplessness and distress. The presence of thirst, detected by self-report and physical signs, exacerbates their suffering. Conclusion thirst management alleviates the suffering of children and families. It is therefore necessary to develop strategies for children’s thirst management.

Objetivo comprender cómo el cuidador experimenta el ayuno del niño quirúrgico y percibe su sed en el perioperatorio. Métodos estudio descriptivo, cualitativo, con 15 cuidadores de niños entre 1 y 12 años en postoperatoria en un hospital universitario. Para el análisis, se utilizó el método del Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo. Resultados surgieron cuatro unidades temáticas: Niño quirúrgico delante del ayuno y de la sed; Percibiendo la sed en el niño quirúrgico; Experimentar y enfrentarse el ayuno y sed con el niño; Percibiéndose la acción del equipo delante de la sed del niño. Para la familia, la experiencia del ayuno está llena de sentimientos, como impotencia y angustia. La presencia de la sed, detectada por auto-informe y signos físicos, exacerba ese sufrimiento. Conclusión el manejo de la sed aliviaría el sufrimiento del niño y familias. Por lo tanto, es necesario desarrollar estrategias de manejo de la sed en niño.

Objetivo compreender como o cuidador vivencia o jejum da criança cirúrgica e percebe sua sede no período perioperatório. Métodos pesquisa descritiva de natureza qualitativa, realizada com 15 acompanhantes de crianças entre 1 e 12 anos no pós-operatório em um hospital-escola. Para análise, utilizou-se o método do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo. Resultados emergiram quatro unidades temáticas: A criança cirúrgica em face do jejum e da sede; Percebendo a sede na criança cirúrgica; Vivenciando e enfrentando o período de jejum e a sede junto da criança; Percebendo a ação da equipe em face da sede da criança. Para os familiares, a vivência do jejum é permeada de sentimentos, como impotência e angústia. A presença da sede, detectada pelo autorrelato e por sinais físicos, agrava esse sofrimento. Conclusão o manejo da sede amenizaria o sofrimento da criança e dos familiares. Por conseguinte, é necessário desenvolver estratégias de manejo da sede na criança.

ABSTRACT Discovering the difficulties the family experiences is an imminent need for the consolidation of the psychosocial rehabilitation process. A qualitative research was undertaken to get to know and analyze family members’ forms of coping with their relatives’ aggressive behavior and the feelings these situations arouse. As a data collection tool, a script was used to interview ten family members living in the coverage area of a Primary Health Care Unit in Londrina, Paraná in 2012, and who had a relative with mental disorder monitored at a mental health service in the city. The results reveal difficulties to manage crises, search for professional and spiritual help and feelings the majority have in common, such as despair, suffering, fear of being victim of aggression, solitude and social isolation. To relive these difficulties, it is considered important for the health service to intervene in the family context.

RESUMO Conhecer as dificuldades vivenciadas pela família constitui-se em necessidade iminente à consolidação do processo de reabilitação psicossocial. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa para conhecimento e análise de formas de enfrentamento de familiares perante o comportamento agressivo de seus parentes, e os sentimentos que tais situações geram. Como instrumento de coleta de dados empregou-se roteiro de entrevista a dez familiares, residentes na área de abrangência de uma Unidade Básica de Saúde, em Londrina, estado do Paraná, em 2012, cujo acompanhamento do indivíduo com transtorno mental fosse realizado em algum serviço de saúde mental da cidade. Os resultados revelam dificuldades de manejo de crises, busca por auxílio profissional e espiritual, assim como sentimentos em comum à maioria, como a desesperança, o sofrimento, o medo de sofrer agressão, a solidão e o isolamento social. Com a finalidade de aliviar tais dificuldades, acredita-se ser importante a intervenção do serviço de saúde no âmbito familiar.

We used an experimental model of atherogenesis to evaluate the effect of vitamin E on oxidative stress induced by hyperfibrinogenemia (HF) and the possible normalization of oxidative stress markers. The following variables were studied: nitric oxide (NO), L-citrulline, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and regression of histopathological lesions in the thoracic aorta. The study was performed in 36 Wistar rats that were divided into three groups of 12 rats each: A, control group; B, HF for 90 days; C, HF for 90 days + vitamin E. Hyperfibrinogenemia was induced by the injection of epinephrine (0.1 ml/day/rat) during 90 days. The dose of vitamin E was 2 mg/day/rat during 75 days. We measured the plasma levels of fibrinogen (mg/dl), NO (uM) and L-citrulline (mM); SOD activity (U/ml) was assayed in red cell lysates using spectrophotometry. The histopathological sections of the thoracic aorta were examined using light microscopy (LM). Statistical analysis was performed using MANOVA and Fisher's test; a p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Rats in group B had a significant increase in fibrinogen levels B (407±8.9 mg/dl) compared to groups A (203±9 mg/dl) and C (191.58±17.79 mg/dl) (p<0.001). We observed a significant decrease in NO in group B (13.73±1.76 uM) versus groups A (23.58±0.08 uM) and C (26.64±3.65 uM) (p<0.001). L-citrulline increased significantly in groups B (4.99±0.18 mM) and C (6.60±0.16 mM) compared to group A (3.03±0.13 mM) (p<0.001). SOD activity was greater in groups B (251.67±10.34 U/ml) and C (304.75±10.43 U/ml) versus group A (139.44±4.74 U/ml) (p<0.001). Light microscopic examination revealed the presence of endothelial denudation, intimal thickening and vessel wall protrusion in group B (90%), while recovery of endothelial denudation and a 50% reduction in intimal thickening was observed in group C (p<0.001). High SOD activity might be insufficient to prevent abnormalities in the oxidative stress pathway induced by HF. Vitamin E would stop the chain reaction initiated by free radicals and thus decrease the superoxide anion, stimulating the bioavailability of NO with normalization of fibrinogen plasma levels.

Con el propósito de estudiar el efecto de la vitamina E sobre el estrés oxidativo desencade- nado por hiperfibrinogenemia (HF) en un modelo experimental de aterogénesis y la posible normalización de los indicadores de estrés oxidativo, se evaluaron: óxido nítrico (NO), L-citrulina, superóxido dismutasa (SOD) e involución de lesiones histopatológicas en la aorta torácica. El estudio se realizó en 36 ratas, cepa Wistar, que se dividieron en tres grupos (n = 12 cada uno): A, control; B, HF × 90 días; C, HF × 90 días + vitamina E. La HF se indujo mediante inyecciones de adrenalina (0,1 ml/día/rata) por 90 días. La dosis de vitamina E fue de 2 mg/día/rata durante 75 días. Se dosaron en plasma los niveles de fibrinógeno (mg/dl), NO (uM) y L-citrulina (mM) y en lisado de glóbulos rojos, por espectrofotometría, se determinó la actividad de la SOD (U/ml). Se analizaron cortes de la aorta torácica por microscopia óptica (MO). Para el análisis estadístico se emplearon MANOVA y la prueba de Fisher; se estableció un nivel de significación de p < 0,05. Se observó un aumento significativo de fibrinógeno en el grupo B (407 ± 8,9 mg/dl) en comparación con los grupos A (203 ± 9 mg/dl) y C (191,58 ± 17,79 mg/dl) (p < 0,001). El NO disminuyó significativamente en el grupo B (13,73 ± 1,76 uM) frente a los grupos A (23,58 ± 0,08 uM) y C (26,64 ± 3,65 uM) (p < 0,001). La L-citrulina aumentó en forma significativa en los grupos B (4,99 ± 0,18 mM) y C (6,60 ± 0,16 mM) en comparación con el grupo A (3,03 ± 0,13 mM) (p < 0,001). El SOD incrementó su actividad en los grupos B (251,67 ± 10,34 U/ml) y C (304,75 ± 10,43 U/ml) frente al grupo A (139,44 ± 4,74 U/ml) (p < 0,001). La microscopia óptica mostró denudación endotelial, engrosamiento intimal y protrusión de la pared en el grupo B (90%) y recuperación de la denudación endotelial y disminución del 50% del engrosamiento intimal en el grupo C (p < 0,001). Niveles aumentados de SOD serían insuficientes para impedir alteraciones en la vía del estrés oxidativo inducido por la HF. La vitamina E actuaría deteniendo la reacción en cadena iniciada por los radicales libres y en consecuencia disminuiría el anión superóxido, estimulando de esta manera un incremento en la biodisponibilidad del NO y normalizando las concentraciones de fibrinógeno plasmático.

Introduction: We studied plasmatic TNF-α, nitric oxide (NO) and citrulline behaviors and probable morphological mitochondrial alterations in aortic smooth muscle cells, in rats with atherogenesis induced by hyperfibrinogenemia in: A) control, B) multiple injured for 30 days and C) multiple injured for 60 days. Material and methods: Hyperfibrinogenemia induction: adrenaline injection (0,1mg/rat/day). TNF-α (pg/dL) was determined by Elisa and NO (uM) and citrulline (mM) by spectrophotometry. Morphological mitochondrial alterations were studied by electronic microscopy. Variables were analized: ANOVA, r coefficient and X² test. Results: We observed a significant increment of TNF-α in multiple injured for 30 days (B) (50.05±2.29) as well as in multiple injured for 60 days (C) (74.99±2.82) related to control (A) (33.01±1.49) (p <0.001 in both groups). Citrulline presented a significant increased in (B) (5.56±0.20) and (C) (6.84±0.13) when compared to (A) (4.41±0.23) (p <0.001 in both situations). Mean while NO biodisponibility diminished significantly in (B) (8.97±0.70) and in (C) (5.32±0.68) when compared to (A) (21.65±1.74) (p <0.001 in both situations). Conclusions: Hyperfibrinogenemia could modify the NO physiopathological pathway and produced morphological mitochondrial alterations in aortic smooth muscle cells, probably producing ischemic lesions in the vascular wall and altering the vasodilatation response.

Introducción: Estudiar el factor de necrosis tumoral alfa (TNF-α), el óxido nítrico (ON) y la citrulina en ratas con lesiones aterogénicas inducida por hiperfibrinogenemia, y su repercusión morfológica mitocondrial en el músculo liso aórtico. Material y métodos: Inducción de hiperfibrinogenemia por inyección de adrenalina (0,1 mg/rata/día), estudiando: A) control, B) injuriados múltiples por 30 días y, C) injuriados múltiples por 60 días. Citrulina (mM) y ON (μM): espectrofotometría, TNF-α (pg/dL): Elisa y mitocondrias: microscopía electrónica. Los resultados se analizaron mediante: ANOVA, Coeficiente r y X², estableciendo p < 0.05 para todos los casos. Resultados: Se observó un incremento de TNF-α estadísticamente significativo tanto en (B) (50.05 ± 2.29) como en (C) (74.99 ± 2.82) respecto del control (A) (33.01 ± 1.49) (p < 0.001 en ambos grupos). Citrulina se comportó de manera similar, ya que aumentó significativamente en (B) (5.56 ± 0.20) y en (C) (6.84 ±0.13) comparado con (A) (4.41 ± 0.23) (p < 0.001 en ambas situaciones). La biodisponibilidad de ON disminuyó significativamente en (B) (8.97 ± 0.70) y en (C) (5.32 ± 0.68) al compararlo con el grupo (A) (21.65 ± 1.74) (p < 0.001 en ambos grupos). Conclusiones: La hiperfibrinogenemia activaría la vía fisiopatológica del ON, produciría radicales libres y lesiones aterogénicas a nivel morfológico mitocondrial en el músculo liso de la aorta.

Doru luteipes consome lagartas de Spodoptera frugiperda, que é atualmente a principal praga da cultura do milho no Brasil. Normalmente, se 70% das plantas tivessem o predador, a praga seria mantida abaixo do nível de dano econômico. Entretanto, o predador ocorre após a praga danificar as plantas. Assim, a disponibilidade de materiais que atraíssem e antecipassem a presença do predador na lavoura poderia reduzir populações da praga. Desta forma, estudou-se em laboratório a atratividade de dietas artificiais para machos e fêmeas do predador D. luteipes. Os tratamentos foram: pupa desidratada e moída do bicho-da-seda; pólen misto, nas quantidades de 0,05; 0,1; 0,2; 0,5 e 1,0g para ambas as dietas. Em olfatômetro, os estímulos da dieta foram comparados à testemunha. Foram realizadas 30 repetições. Os resultados mostraram que houve atratividade tanto para machos quanto para fêmeas. Em geral, a atração foi aumentada com o aumento da quantidade das dietas. Estudos adicionais foram propostos para testar a viabilidade do uso dos materiais como estratégia de manejo da praga no campo.

Doru luteipes consumes larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda, which is at this moment the main pest of maize crop in Brazil. In general, if 70% of the plants had this predator the pest would be kept under the threshold of economic damage. However, the predator occurs after the pest damages the plants. Thus, the availability of materials that would attract and anticipate the presence of predator in the field,could reduce pest populations. In such a way, it was studied in the laboratory the attractiveness of artificial diets for males and females of the D. luteipes. The treatments were: ground dehydrated pupa of the silk worm and pollen mixture in the amounts of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 e 1.0g, for both the diets The diet stimulus were compared to control using a olfactometer. In general, attraction increased with rising amounts of the diets. Further investigations were proposed to test the viability of the usage of the materials to manage the pest in the field.
