Abstract Dengue is an arboviral disease that annually reports a large number of infected on the north coast and the Peruvian jungle. According to statistics, it is increasing yearly. This article aims to develop a systematic review of the scientific literature on the study variables and the machine learning methods currently used for detecting dengue infection. The methodology used was PRISMA, initially mapping the literature of 274 scientific articles, leaving 33 articles selected for the systematic review. The results obtained are that the most used machine learning algorithms are neural networks (NN) and support vector machine (SVM). Likewise, it has been found that scientists tend to carry out research with climatic or demographic variables to obtain better results. It is concluded that the machine learning methods that have been used the most are neural networks of different types: convolutional, recurrent, deep, and multilayer, and for the prediction of dengue outbreaks the time series methods with LSTM and ARIMA were the predominant ones, it was also established that the trend is towards the inclusion of climatic and demographic variables in the prediction models.

El dengue es una enfermedad arboviral que anualmente reporta un gran número de infectados en la costa norte y la selva peruana. Según las estadísticas, está aumentando cada año. Este artículo tiene como objetivo desarrollar una revisión sistemática de la literatura científica sobre las variables de estudio y los métodos de aprendizaje automático utilizados actualmente para detectar la infección por dengue. La metodología utilizada fue PRISMA, mapeando inicialmente la literatura de 274 artículos científicos, quedando seleccionados 33 artículos para la revisión sistemática. Los resultados obtenidos son que los algoritmos de aprendizaje automático más utilizados son las redes neuronales (NN) y support vector machine (SVM). Asimismo, se ha encontrado que los científicos tienden a realizar investigaciones con variables climáticas o demográficas para obtener mejores resultados. Se concluye que los métodos de aprendizaje automático que más se han utilizado son las redes neuronales de diferentes tipos: convolucional, recurrente, profunda y multicapa, y para la predicción de brotes de dengue predominaron los métodos de series de tiempo con LSTM y ARIMA, también se estableció que la tendencia es hacia la inclusión de variables climáticas y demográficas en los modelos de predicción.

Resumen Este estudio tiene como objetivo describir la experiencia de autoevaluación del liderazgo pedagógico desarrollado por un equipo directivo perteneciente a un centro escolar particular subvencionado de la comuna de Loncoche, como estrategia para favorecer el aprendizaje y desarrollo profesional. La investigación se enmarca en un estudio de caso de metodología mixta y alcance descriptivo. Los participantes fueron nueve directivos escolares pertenecientes al equipo de gestión escolar. Para la recolección de información se aplicó el cuestionario de Vanderbilt de Liderazgo en Educación (VAL-ED) y grupos de discusión. Los resultados del diagnóstico permitieron al equipo directivo tomar conciencia sobre las implicancias de sus prácticas en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes y del profesorado. Se concluye la necesidad de avanzar hacia procesos permanentes de autoevaluación del liderazgo que propicien la reflexión crítica y colaborativa de la práctica desde un enfoque formativo y situado.

Abstract This study aims to describe the pedagogical leadership self-assessment experience developed by a management team from a private subsidized school in the city of Loncoche, as a strategy to promote learning and professional development. The research is framed in a case study of mixed methodology and descriptive scope. The participants were nine school leaders that were part of the management team. To collect information, the Spanish adaptation of the Vanderbilt Leadership in Education questionnaire (VAL-ED) was applied, and discussion groups were developed. The results of the diagnosis allowed the management team to identify the implications of their practices in student and teacher learning. It is concluded that there is a need to move towards permanent processes of formative self-evaluation of leadership as a reflective and collaborative strategy and a situated professional approach.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Conjunctival melanoma is a rare and aggressive tumor with a propensity for regional and distant metastases. This study aimed to analyze BRAF/NRAS markers in conjunctival melanoma and their relationship with tumor recurrences and patient prognosis. Methods: This retrospective, observational, single-center study included consecutive patients with an anatomopathological diagnosis of conjunctival melanoma, registered between January 1992 and December 2019. BRAF/NRAS mutations were analyzed using cobas®4800 kit (Roche®) in samples obtained by excisional or map biopsy. Additionally, the presence of other associated precancerous or tumor lesions was assessed. Results: A total of 12 patients with positive histological samples for conjunctival melanoma were included (7 women, 5 men), with a mean age at diagnosis of 60 years and a mean evolution time of 6.38 ± 3.4 years. BRAF V600E mutation was observed in three biopsies (25%), similar to NRAS Q61X (25%). Recurrences occurred in all patients with positive BRAF or NRAS mutation, and five of these patients developed systemic dissemination (83.33%). Moreover, four of six patients with mutated BRAF or NRAS (66.66%) had histopathological findings of tumor or precancerous lesions. Conclusions: BRAF and NRAS mutations may be risk factors for recurrence and shorter survival in conjunctival melanoma, which would make these patients candidates for targeted therapies and comprehensive and individualized follow-up. All these data warrant standardized prospective studies.

RESUMO Objetivo: O melanoma da conjuntiva é um tumor raro e agressivo, com propensão à disseminação metastática regional e distante. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar os marcadores BRAF e NRAS no melanoma da conjuntiva e sua relação com recidivas tumorais e com o prognóstico do paciente. Métodos: Este foi um estudo retrospectivo, observacional e unicêntrico de pacientes consecutivos com diagnóstico anatomopatológico de melanoma da conjuntiva feito entre janeiro de 1992 e dezembro de 2019. As mutações BRAF e NRAS foram analisadas com o kit cobas® 4800 (Roche®) em amostras obtidas através de biópsia excisional ou por mapa. Além disso, foi avaliada a presença de lesões pré-cancerosas ou tumorais associadas. Resultados: Foram incluídos 12 pacientes com amostras histológicas positivas para melanoma da conjuntiva (7 mulheres e 5 homens), com idade média ao diagnóstico de 60 anos e tempo médio de evolução de 6,38 ± 3,4 anos. A mutação BRAF V600E foi encontrada em 3 biópsias (25%), bem como a NRAS Q61X (25%). Ocorreram recidivas em todos os pacientes positivos para mutações de BRAF ou NRAS e 5 desses pacientes desenvolveram disseminação sistêmica (83,33%). Além disso, 4 dos 6 pacientes com BRAF ou NRAS mutante (66,66%) apresentaram achados histopatológicos de lesões tumorais ou pré-cancerosas. Conclusões: As mutações BRAF e NRAS podem ser fatores de risco para recorrência e menor sobrevida no melanoma da conjuntiva, o que tornaria esses pacientes candidatos a terapias direcionadas e a um acompanhamento mais abrangente e individualizado. Todos esses dados justificam mais estudos prospectivos padronizados.

RESUMEN El estudio tiene como propósito describir el proceso de elaboración de un modelo formativo de liderazgo centrado en el estudiante para orientar las prácticas de gestión escolar que promuevan el aprendizaje del alumnado y del profesorado. Para diseñar el modelo, se llevó a cabo un proceso metodológico de investigación participativa, donde la reflexión de la práctica y el diálogo profesional entre formadores de formadores y líderes escolares, se sitúa desde la indagación y cuestionamiento del quehacer educativo. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to describe the development process of a student-centered leadership training model to guide school management practices that foster both student and teacher learning. To design this model, a methodological participatory research process was undertaken, in which the reflection on practices and professional dialogue among teacher trainers and school leaders was rooted in the analysis and questioning of educational activities. Resumen En Perú, sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis) tiene un gran potencial de producción y de industrialización; sin embargo, aún no se conoce el valor real de la semilla y sus subproductos para uso en alimentación animal. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la composición nutricional y contenido de antinutrientes (saponinas y taninos) de las tortas de Plukenetia volubilis . Plukenetia huayllabambana, así como la composición proximal de las semillas y de las cáscaras. Para ello, se determinó el contenido de humedad, proteína cruda, fibra cruda, extracto etéreo, extracto libre de nitrógeno, cenizas, fibra detergente neutro (FDN) y fibra detergente ácido (FDA), así como el contenido de taninos, saponinas, perfil de ácidos grasos y digestibilidad in vitro de la materia orgánica (DIVMO) de torta de sacha inchi. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticas (p > 0,05) para los componentes nutricionales evaluados en semilla, cáscara y torta de ambas especies de sacha inchi. Sin embargo, las semillas de P. huayllabambana presentaron mayor cantidad de extracto etéreo, pero menor contenido de proteínas que P. volubilis. Asimismo, en P. volubilisel contenido de proteína de la torta fue menor que P. huayllabambana. La cáscara de P. volubilis presenta un menor contenido de fibra que P. huayllabambana. Los DIVMO de torta P. volubilis . P. huayllabambana no mostró diferencias estadísticas (p > 0,05). La concentración de ácidos grasos poliinsaturados fue superior en P. volubilis (p < 0,05). La torta de sacha inchi de ambas especies presenta potencial para ser utilizadas en alimentación animal por su alto valor nutricional y ausencia de antinutrientes.

Abstract In Peru, sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis) has great production and industrialization potential; however, the real value of the seed and its by-products for use in animal feeding is not yet known. The objective of the study was to determine the nutritional composition, and content of antinutrients (saponins and tannins) of the cake meals (residues after oil extraction) of Plukenetia volubilis and Plukenetia huayllabambana, as well as the proximal composition of the seeds and skin. The moisture content, crude protein, crude fibre, ether extract, nitrogen-free extract, ash, neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) were determined; as well as the content of tannins, saponins, fatty acid profile and in vitro digestibility of organic matter (IVDOM) of sacha inchi meal. No statistical differences were found (p > 0,05) for the nutritional components evaluated in seed, skin and cake meal of both species of sacha inchi. However, the seeds of P. huayllabambana present higher amounts of fat, but lower protein content than P. volubilis. Likewise, in P. volubilis the protein content of the meal was lower than P. huayllabambana. The IVDOM of sacha inchi meal did not show statistical differences. The skin of P. volubilis has a lower content of crude fiber than P. huayllabambana. The concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids was higher in P. volubilis (p < 0,05). No traces of saponins or tanins were found in the sacha inchi meal of both species. The sacha inchi meal of both species has potential to be used in animal feed due to its high nutritional value and absence of antinutrients.

Resumen Considerando la rapidez y complejidad del proceso de envejecimiento a nivel mundial como fenómeno social y en el marco de la crisis sanitaria global por el virus de SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), el presente estudio buscó conocer los niveles de apoyo social y percepción de calidad de vida en personas adultas mayores en el contexto de pandemia. Se trabajó en base a un enfoque cuantitativo, de carácter transversal y un estudio descriptivo correlacional. La muestra estuvo constituida por 141 personas (51 hombres y 90 mujeres) provenientes de la zona centro sur del país. Los resultados se contrastaron en base a la teoría del desarrollo psicosocial, teoría ecológica y teoría de redes sociales y, específicamente del análisis del apoyo social en base a la Escala de Apoyo Social (EAS) y de percepción de calidad de vida bajo la utilización del cuestionario WHOQOL-BREF. Entre los hallazgos se determinó que los factores protectores expresados en altas puntuaciones de apoyo; social, familiar, de amigos y calidad de vida en sus dimensiones de salud física, psicológica, ambiente y relaciones sociales contribuyen a una percepción normal-positiva por parte de los adultos mayores.

Abstract Considering the speed and complexity of the aging process worldwide as a social phenomenon and in the context of the global health crisis caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), the present study sought to determine the levels of social support and perception of quality of life in elderly people in the context of the pandemic. The study was based on a quantitative, cross-sectional approach and a descriptive-correlational study. The sample consisted of 141 people (51 men and 90 women) from the southern-central zone of the country. The results were contrasted based on the psychosocial development theory, ecological theory and social network theory and, specifically, on the analysis of social support based on the Social Support Scale (EAS) and of perception of quality of life using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Among the findings, it was determined that the protective factors - expressed in high scores of supports; social, family, friends and quality of life in its dimensions of physical and psychological health, environment and social relationships - contribute to a normal-positive perception on the part of the elderly.

ABSTRACT Objective: Assess whether maternal practices in complementary feeding of infants aged 4-8 months are adequate in anemia´s prevalent areas in northern Peru. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 206 mothers of infants aged 4-8 months in areas of high prevalence of anemia in the Mórrope District during 2018, using stratified polystage sampling with the interview technique, and with a questionnaire validated by experts. The Office Excel 2013 and SPSS v. 23 programs were used; also the Ji-square test was used, with p( 0.05 as significant. Results: 90.7% of the mothers were between 18 and 35 years old; 49.5% had primary education; 86.9% were housewives and 62.1% co-inhabitants. Mothers of children under 6 months of age gave more frequently porridge (75.6%) and from 6 months mainly puree (59.4%), foods rich in iron, more often liver and lentils and as iron inhibitors infusions such as anise and chamomile. The continuity of breastfeeding only with breast milk was of 68.2% in children under 6 months and 63.0% from 6 months. Conclusions: Maternal practices in complementary feeding in infants 4-8 months of age in anemia´s prevalent areas of (Mórrope 2018) are not adequate. Mothers mostly introduce from 6 months of age infusions such as anise and chamomile that are inhibitors of iron absorption, which can have an impact on the prevalence of anemia.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Valorar si las prácticas maternas en alimentación complementaria en lactantes de 4-8 meses de edad, son adecuadas en zonas prevalentes de anemia del norte de Perú. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, transversal, en 206 madres de lactantes de 4-8 meses de edad en zonas de alta prevalencia de anemia del Distrito de Mórrope durante el 2018, mediante muestreo polietápico estratificado con la técnica de la entrevista, con cuestionario validado por expertos. Se usaron los programas Office Excel 2013 y SPSS v. 23, se utilizó la prueba Ji-cuadrado, con p( 0,05 como significativo. Resultados: Tenían entre 18 a 35 años de edad 90,7 % de las madres; 49,5 % instrucción primaria; 86,9 % amas de casa y 62,1% convivientes. Eran lactantes de 6 a 8 meses de edad 93,2 % Las madres de menores de 6 meses ofrecieron en mayor frecuencia papilla (75,6 %) y a partir de los 6 meses principalmente puré (59,4 %), alimentos ricos en hierro, como hígado y lentejas y como inhibidores de hierro infusiones como anís y manzanilla. La continuidad de la lactancia solo con leche materna fue 68,2 % en menores de 6 meses y 63,0 % a partir de los 6 meses. Conclusiones: Las prácticas maternas en alimentación complementaria en lactantes de 4-8 meses de edad en zonas prevalentes de anemia, Mórrope 2018, no son adecuadas. Las madres a partir de los 6 meses de edad introducen mayormente infusiones como anís y manzanilla que constituyen inhibidores de la absorción de hierro, lo que puede repercutir en la prevalencia de la anemia.

RESUMEN Objetivos: Describir la prevalencia de los síntomas de depresión y las preocupaciones que afectaron a las gestantes durante la pandemia por COVID-19. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal descriptivo, se incluyeron mujeres gestantes, con acceso a un medio tecnológico (celular, computador o tableta) y conectividad a internet, residentes en Antioquia, Colombia. Se excluyeron mujeres con analfabetismo literario y tecnológico. Se encuestaron, en línea, las condiciones sociodemográficas y clínicas basales y las principales preocupaciones generadas por la pandemia, además se aplicó la Escala de Depresión de Edimburgo (EPDS) para medir el riesgo de depresión. Se usó el software Jamovi para el procesamiento y análisis estadístico. Resultados: Se encuestaron 345 mujeres gestantes de 15 a 44 años, se identificó una prevalencia de riesgo de depresión en 30,4 % de las mujeres encuestadas. Se identificó violencia intrafamiliar en el 4,9 % y ausencia de red de apoyo en el 8,4 %. Se encontraron como mayores preocupaciones temor a ser separadas del bebé el día del parto, la posibilidad de no tener acompañante durante el parto, y temor al contagio por los efectos en el bebé in útero o en el recién nacido. Conclusiones: Los síntomas de depresión han sido frecuentes en las mujeres gestantes durante la pandemia del COVID-19. Es importante averiguar por factores de estrés y síntomas de depresión en el control prenatal, el parto y el postparto. Se requieren nuevos estudios locales que evalúen otros trastornos de salud mental que se hayan podido incrementar durante la pandemia por COVID-19.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To describe the prevalence of symptoms of depression and worry affecting pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study that included pregnant women with access to a technological device (mobile phone, computer or tablet) and Internet connection, living in Antioquia, Colombia. Women with literary and technological illiteracy were excluded. An online survey was conducted to gather information about sociodemographic and baseline clinical conditions and the main concerns caused by the pandemic. Additionally, the Edinburg Depression Scale (EPDS) was applied in order to measure the risk of depression. The Jamovi software was used for data processing and statistical analysis. Results: Overall, 345 pregnant women between 15 and 44 years of age were surveyed, with the finding of a 30.4 % prevalence of the risk of depression. Domestic violence and absence of a support network were identified in 4.9 % and 8.4 % of cases. The major sources of worry were the fear of being separated from their babies on the day of birth, the possibility of having to be alone during childbirth, and the fear of contagion due to potential effects on the fetus or the newborn. Conclusions: Depression symptoms have been frequent among pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to inquire about stress factors and depression symptoms during prenatal visits, childbirth and the postpartum period. Additional local studies are needed to assess other mental health disorders that may have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMEN Introducción: Cuidar en el hogar a una persona con tratamiento de diálisis peritoneal implica esfuerzo, aprendizaje, lograr habilidades, controlar el entorno, así como ser rigurosos en la realización del procedimiento. Sin embargo, se necesita el seguimiento permanente de las enfermeras para evitar complicaciones y lograr la participación familiar para que el cuidador no se agote. Objetivo: Analizar las experiencias de los cuidadores familiares de pacientes sujetos a diálisis peritoneal en el hogar. Material y Método: Investigación cualitativa, descriptiva en la cual participaron 12 cuidadores familiares de adultos jóvenes con tratamiento de diálisis peritoneal, muestra obtenida por criterios de saturación, redundancia y por conveniencia. Para la recogida de datos se utilizó la entrevista semiestructurada validada por juicio de expertos y aprobada por Comité de Ética. Los datos recogidos fueron procesados por análisis de contenido temático de forma artesanal. Resultados: a) Capacitación, adquisición de habilidades y satisfacción, b) Cuidados para la diálisis peritoneal: ambiente, materiales, bioseguridad y complicaciones, c) Beneplácitos y disconformidades en la permanencia del apoyo familiar. Conclusiones: Los cuidadores familiares valoran de forma positiva la capacitación recibida por las enfermeras, adecuan la habitación del paciente y utilizan algunos materiales propios del hogar y conforme pasa el tiempo logran habilidades para realizar la diálisis peritoneal. Mantienen el orden, la limpieza, las medidas de bioseguridad y siguen el procedimiento para evitar complicaciones. Algunos cuidadores reconocen el apoyo de la familia ya sea emocional, espiritual, económico o con las tareas del hogar.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Caring at home for a person on peritoneal dialysis treatment involves effort, learning, achieving skills, controlling the environment, as well as being rigorous in carrying out the procedure. However, ongoing monitoring by nurses is needed to avoid complications and to involve the family so that the caregiver does not become exhausted. Objective: To analyze the experiences of family caregivers of peritoneal dialysis patients at home. Material and Method: Qualitative descriptive research involving 12 family carers of young adults undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatment. The sample was obtained by saturation, redundancy and convenience criteria. The semi-structured interview was used for data collection, validated by expert judgement and approved by the Ethics Committee. The data collected were processed by thematic content analysis. Results: a) Training, skills acquisition and satisfaction, b) Peritoneal dialysis care: environment, materials, biosafety and complications, c) Satisfaction and dissatisfaction with continued family support. Conclusions: Family caregivers value positively the training received by the nurses, they adapt the patient’s room and use some household materials, and over time they acquire skills to perform peritoneal dialysis. They maintain order, cleanliness, biosecurity measures and follow the procedure to avoid complications. Some caregivers acknowledge the support of the family, whether emotional, spiritual, financial or with household tasks.

ABSTRACT Background: COVID-19 is the disease that affects the entire world and is a health emergency. Knowing the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the patients is important to fight it. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of COVID-19 in Cumanayagua. Methods: a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out that included the 14 positive cases diagnosed in 2020. With the data collected, a database was created, which was processed using the statistical package SPSS-PC version 25.0. The cases were collected according to epidemiological classification, age, sex, presence or absence of symptoms, comorbidity, source of infection, symptoms and places of residence from where the patients came. Results: the months of November and December were the ones with the highest reported cases, the native and imported cases behaved in the same way, those over 15 years of age predominated and there were no differences according to sex. Asymptomatic cases predominated. High blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, and obesity were the most frequent comorbidities. The symptoms that presented were fever and headache in greater numbers. The largest number of cases came from the places of residence, Vila and Las Brisas. Conclusions: Although in the year analyzed there were not many patients, it is important that the population fulfill with health and social distancing measures to avoid contagion.

RESUMEN Fundamento: la COVID-19 es la enfermedad que afecta al mundo entero y es una emergencia sanitaria. Conocer las características clínicas y epidemiológicas de los enfermos resulta importante para combatirla. Objetivo: describir el perfil epidemiológico de la COVID-19 en Cumanayagua. Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptico, retrospectivo de corte transversal que incluyó los 14 casos positivos diagnosticados en el año 2020. Con los datos recogidos se confeccionó una base de datos, que se procesó mediante el paquete estadístico SPSS-PC versión 25,0. Los casos se recopilaron según clasificación epidemiológica, edad, sexo, presencia o no de síntomas, comorbilidad, fuente de infección, síntomas y consejos populares de donde procedían los pacientes. Resultados: los meses de noviembre y diciembre fueron los de mayor reporte de casos, se comportaron de igual manera los casos autóctonos y los importados, predominaron los mayores de 15 años y no existieron diferencias según el sexo. Predominaron los casos asintomáticos. La hipertensión arterial, la diabetes mellitus y la obesidad fueron las comorbilidades más frecuentes. Los síntomas que presentaron fueron la fiebre y cefalea en mayor número. La mayor número de casos provenía de los consejos populares urbanos, Vila y Las Brisas. Conclusiones: Aunque en el año analizado no fueron muchos los enfermos, es importante que la población cumpla las medidas sanitarias y de distanciamiento social para evitar el contagio.

ABSTRACT: Current policies in Chile on teacher training require structural transformations for evaluative practices. The objective of the article is to describe the process of resignification and transformation of the evaluative practice of the educator through reflection and collabo ration between critical friends. The Self-Study methodology was applied, and 4 teacher trainers from three Chilean universities participated in this study, who formed a learning community of critical friends who reflect on their evaluative practices individually and collectively. The pedagogical dialogues between trainers allowed to elucidate critical knots between discourse and evaluative practices, and the concept of learning and formative evaluation that underlies teaching practice was revealed within this tension. These results allow us to conclude that the systematic analysis of evaluative practices contributes to the transformation of learning culture in teacher training.

RESUMEN: Las políticas actuales en Chile sobre formación docente exigen transformaciones a nivel estructural en las prácticas evaluativas. El objetivo del artículo es describir el proceso de resignificación y transformación de la propia práctica evaluativa del formador mediante la re flexión y colaboración entre amigos críticos. La metodología utilizada fue Self Study, participan de este estudio 4 docentes formadores de profesores de tres universidades chilenas, quienes conformaron una comunidad de aprendizaje entre amigos críticos que reflexionan sobre sus prácticas de evaluación formativa a nivel individual y colectivo. Los diálogos pedagógicos entre formadores llevaron a dilucidar nudos críticos entre el discurso y la práctica evaluativa, dicha tensión develó la concepción de aprendizaje y evaluación formativa que subyace a la práctica docente. Dichos resultados permiten concluir que el análisis sistemático de la práctica evalua tiva aporta a la transformación de la cultura de aprendizaje en la formación del profesorado.

RESUMO Objetivo: O melanoma da conjuntiva é um tumor raro e agressivo, com propensão à disseminação metastática regional e distante. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar os marcadores BRAF e NRAS no melanoma da conjuntiva e sua relação com recidivas tumorais e com o prognóstico do paciente. Métodos: Este foi um estudo retrospectivo, observacional e unicêntrico de pacientes consecutivos com diagnóstico anatomopatológico de melanoma da conjuntiva feito entre janeiro de 1992 e dezembro de 2019. As mutações BRAF e NRAS foram analisadas com o kit cobas® 4800 (Roche®) em amostras obtidas através de biópsia excisional ou por mapa. Além disso, foi avaliada a presença de lesões pré-cancerosas ou tumorais associadas. Resultados: Foram incluídos 12 pacientes com amostras histológicas positivas para melanoma da conjuntiva (7 mulheres e 5 homens), com idade média ao diagnóstico de 60 anos e tempo médio de evolução de 6,38 ± 3,4 anos. A mutação BRAF V600E foi encontrada em 3 biópsias (25%), bem como a NRAS Q61X (25%). Ocorreram recidivas em todos os pacientes positivos para mutações de BRAF ou NRAS e 5 desses pacientes desenvolveram disseminação sistêmica (83,33%). Além disso, 4 dos 6 pacientes com BRAF ou NRAS mutante (66,66%) apresentaram achados histopatológicos de lesões tumorais ou pré-cancerosas. Conclusões: As mutações BRAF e NRAS podem ser fatores de risco para recorrência e menor sobrevida no melanoma da conjuntiva, o que tornaria esses pacientes candidatos a terapias direcionadas e a um acompanhamento mais abrangente e individualizado. Todos esses dados justificam mais estudos prospectivos padronizados.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Conjunctival melanoma is a rare and aggressive tumor with a propensity for regional and distant metastases. This study aimed to analyze BRAF/NRAS markers in conjunctival melanoma and their relationship with tumor recurrences and patient prognosis. Methods: This retrospective, observational, single-center study included consecutive patients with an anatomopathological diagnosis of conjunctival melanoma, registered between January 1992 and December 2019. BRAF/NRAS mutations were analyzed using cobas®4800 kit (Roche®) in samples obtained by excisional or map biopsy. Additionally, the presence of other associated precancerous or tumor lesions was assessed. Results: A total of 12 patients with positive histological samples for conjunctival melanoma were included (7 women, 5 men), with a mean age at diagnosis of 60 years and a mean evolution time of 6.38 ± 3.4 years. BRAF V600E mutation was observed in three biopsies (25%), similar to NRAS Q61X (25%). Recurrences occurred in all patients with positive BRAF or NRAS mutation, and five of these patients developed systemic dissemination (83.33%). Moreover, four of six patients with mutated BRAF or NRAS (66.66%) had histopathological findings of tumor or precancerous lesions. Conclusions: BRAF and NRAS mutations may be risk factors for recurrence and shorter survival in conjunctival melanoma, which would make these patients candidates for targeted therapies and comprehensive and individualized follow-up. All these data warrant standardized prospective studies.

Abstract Objectives: The increase in the elderly population has led to a rise in the percentage of people with dementia who require specialized attention aimed at maintaining or delaying their cognitive and physical decline. The aim of this research was to analyze whether a group of adults with dementia improve cognitively when being attended by professional caregivers who were trained in a cognitive stimulation module of the CUIDA-2 program following the principles of the person-centered-care model. Methodology: The sample consisted on 47 people with dementia (divided into treatment group and control group) and 5 professional caregivers of a day center for people with dementia in Granada. The older people treatment group was treated for three months by caregivers who received the training program. All participants were assessed before and after the intervention with various cognitive assessment tests. Results: People with dementia who were treated by caregivers trained in the program maintained or improved their scores in all the tests analyzed, although these improvements were only significant in various subtest. Conclusions: The caregiver training program produced a positive effect in the adults with dementia, as it helps to improve and maintain their cognitive functions. This research opens new lines of work in the field of cognitive intervention in people with dementia that can be very useful when working with this population.

Resumen Objetivos: El incremento de la población mayor ha hecho que se eleve el porcentaje de personas con demencia que requieren una atención especializada dirigida a mantener o retrasar su declive cognitivo y físico. El objetivo de esta investigación ha sido analizar si un grupo de personas con demencia mejoran cognitivamente al ser atendidos por cuidadores profesionales que han sido formados en un módulo de estimulación cognitiva del programa CUIDA-2 siguiendo los principios de la atención centrada en la persona. Metodología: La muestra estuvo formada por 47 personas con demencia (divididas en grupo tratamiento y grupo control) y 5 cuidadores formales de un centro de día de personas con demencia de Granada. El grupo tratamiento de personas mayores fue atendido durante 3 meses por cuidadores que recibieron el programa de formación. Todos los participantes fueron evaluados antes y después de la intervención con diversas pruebas de evaluación cognitiva. Resultados: Las personas con demencia que fueron atendidas por los cuidadores formados en el programa mantuvieron o mejoraron sus puntuaciones en todas las pruebas analizadas, si bien estas mejoras solo fueron significativas en diversas subescalas de los test empleados. Conclusiones: Se ha comprobado que el programa de formación de cuidadores aquí analizado produce un efecto positivo para las personas con demencia, ya que ayuda a mejorar y mantener sus funciones cognitivas. Esta investigación abre nuevas líneas de trabajo en el ámbito de la intervención cognitiva en personas con demencia que pueden ser de gran utilidad cuando se trabaje con esta población.

In the last century, progress in the knowledge of human diseases, their diagnosis and treatment have grown exponentially, due in large part to the introduction and use of laboratory animals. Along with this important progress, the need to provide training and guidance to the scientific community in all aspects related to the proper use of experimental animals has been indispensable. Animal research committees play a primary role in evaluating experimental research protocols, from their feasibility to the rational use of animals, but above all in seeking animal welfare. The Institutional Committee for the Care and Use of Animals (IACUC) has endeavored to share several relevant aspects in conducting research with laboratory animals. Here, we present and discuss the topics that we consider of utmost importance to take in the account during the design of any experimental research protocol, so we invite researchers, technicians, and undergraduate and graduate students to dive into the fascinating subject of proper animal care and use for experimentation. The main intention of these contributions is to sensitize users of laboratory animals for the proper and rational use of them in experimental research, as well as to disseminate the permitted and unpermitted procedures in laboratory animals. In the first part, the significance of experimental research, the main functions of IACUC, and the principle of the three R’s (replacement, reduction, and refinement) are addressed.

ABSTRACT Background: Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has spread rapidly in many regions in recent years. Objective: to describe clinical and epidemiological aspects of confirmed dengue patients in the Cumanayagua municipality, Cienfuegos province, during 2019. Methods: a case series study was carried out, which included 28 confirmed dengue patients, according to a database of the Municipal Hygiene and Epidemiology Unit. Sociodemographic, clinical and epidemiological variables, detected Aedes aegypti foci and infestation indices were analyzed. Results: The 57.1% of patients corresponded to the group of 15 to 49 years old; the female sex behaved in the same way as the male with the 50.0%. The predominant symptom was fever (100%); the 71.4% of the patients reported not having traveled outside the municipality; Aedes Aegypti outbreaks and infestation rates rose from June and fell after November. The highest risk neighborhood was Brisa with 36.8 x 10 000 inhabitants. Conclusions: the dengue epidemic in the Cumanayagua municipality in 2019 was clinically-epidemiologically characterized in a similar way to those that occurred in other territories, where the dengue 3 and 4 viruses circulation prevailed.

RESUMEN Fundamento: el dengue es una enfermedad vírica transmitida por mosquitos que se ha propagado rápidamente en muchas regiones en los últimos años. Objetivo: describir aspectos clínicos y epidemiológicos de los pacientes confirmados de dengue en el municipio de Cumanayagua, provincia Cienfuegos, durante el año 2019. Métodos: se realizó un estudio de serie de casos, que incluyó los 28 pacientes confirmados de dengue, según base de datos de la Unidad Municipal de Higiene y Epidemiología del municipio. Se analizaron variables sociodemográficas, clínicas y epidemiológicas, focos de Aedes aegypti detectados e índices de infestación. Resultados: el 57,1 % de pacientes correspondió al grupo de 15 a 49 años; el sexo femenino se comportó de igual manera que el masculino con 50,0 %. El síntoma predominante fue la fiebre (100 %); el 71,4 % de los pacientes refirieron no haber viajado fuera del municipio; los focos de Aedes aegypti e índices de infestación ascendieron a partir de junio y descendieron después de noviembre. El Consejo Popular de mayor riesgo fue Brisa con 36,8 x 10 000 habitantes. Conclusiones: la epidemia de dengue del municipio de Cumanayagua, en 2019, se caracterizó clínica-epidemiológicamente de forma similar a las ocurridas en otros territorios, donde prevaleció la circulación de virus dengue 3 y 4.
