Abstract The state of Ceará is located in the Northeast region of Brazil, which has a varied climatic condition, being predominantly formed by Caatinga vegetation, and there may also be remnants of Cerrado and other Semideciduous Seasonal Forest. The objective of this work was to carry out a floristic survey in vegetation fragments of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest and Cerrado found in the part of Serra das Flores located in the municipality of Viçosa do Ceará. Para tal, foram realizadas 12 coletas na área ao longo do ano de 2019. 220 species were recorded, belonging to 154 genera and 62 families. The most representative families in this area were Fabaceae (38 spp.), Rubiaceae (15 spp.) and Myrtaceae (nine spp.). The predominant habit were herbs and shrubs. The richest fragment was the Cerrado with 171 species, with the Typical Cerrado (104 spp.) phytophysiognomy being the most representative. Of the total species, most are native, 16 are new records for Ceará, 12 are endemic to the Caatinga domain and seven are endemic to the Cerrado. Thus, the present site presents a high heterogeneity of species, in addition to varied habits, new records and endemic species of Cerrado and Caatinga.

Resumo O estado do Ceará fica localizado na região Nordeste do Brasil, a qual possui uma variada condição climática, sendo formado predominantemente de vegetação de Caatinga, podendo também ocorrer remanescentes de Cerrado e de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar o levantamento florístico em fragmentos vegetacionais de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual e Cerrado encontrados na parte da Serra das Flores localizada no município de Viçosa do Ceará. Para tal, foram realizadas 12 coletas na área ao longo do ano de 2019. Foram registradas 220 espécies, pertencentes a 154 gêneros e 62 famílias. As famílias mais representativas nessa área foram Fabaceae (38 spp.), Rubiaceae (15 spp.) e Myrtaceae (nove spp.). Os hábitos predominantes foram as ervas e os arbustos. O fragmento mais rico foi o de Cerrado com 171 espécies, sendo a fitofisionomia de Cerrado Típico (104 spp.) a mais representativa. Do total de espécies, a maioria são nativa, 16 são novos registros para o Ceará, 12 são endêmicas do domínio Caatinga e sete são endêmicas de Cerrado. Com isso o presente local apresenta uma alta heterogeneidade de espécies, além de variados hábitos, novos registros e espécies endêmicas de Cerrado e Caatinga.

Resumo As áreas urbanas sofrem no decorrer dos anos com a perda da sua biodiversidade, devido à redução das áreas verdes pela construção civil ou pelo crescimento populacional urbano. Desse modo, o presente trabalho objetivou registrar a diversidade de angiospermas de um fragmento florestal urbano ocorrente no Campus Itaperi da Universidade Estadual do Ceará, em Fortaleza, Ceará. As coletas foram realizadas de maio/2018 a abril/2019, por meio de caminhadas realizadas nas estações seca e chuvosa. Foram registradas 160 espécies distribuídas em 128 gêneros e 49 famílias. Fabaceae (27 spp.), Asteraceae (13 spp.), Convolvulaceae e Malvaceae (11 spp. cada), Rubiaceae e Poaceae (9 spp. cada), e Euphorbiaceae (8 spp.) foram as famílias mais ricas, respondendo por 55% da flora amostrada. As plantas herbáceas (36,65%) foram o hábito mais representado, após o qual foram classificados os subarbustos e arbustos (17,50% cada), arbóreos (16,25%) e trepadeiras (13,12%). Dentre o total de espécies 94,37% são nativas, 15,62% são endêmicas do Brasil e 5,62% são exóticas. Das espécies identificadas, 10 spp. estão na Lista Vermelha do Centro Nacional de Conservação da Flora e 30 spp. na Lista Vermelha da União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza. Podemos concluir que o fragmento estudado possui uma importante riqueza de espécies de plantas em área urbana, sendo necessário a criação de uma Unidade de Conservação e de um plano de manejo de modo a garantir a conservação da área.

Abstract The urban areas have suffered with the loss in their biodiversity along the years due to the decrease of green areas by civil construction or by the urban population growth. Therefore, this work aimed at registering the angiosperms diversity in an urban forest fragment at the Itaperi Campus of the State University of Ceará, Fortaleza, Brazil. The sampling was carried out from May/2018 to April /2019 through walks during the rainy and dry seasons. 160 species distributed in 128 genera and 49 families were registered. Fabaceae (27 spp.), Asteraceae (13 spp.), Convolvulaceae and Malvaceae (11 spp. each), Rubiaceae e Poaceae (9 spp. each), and Euphorbiaceae (8 spp.) were the richest families, accounting for 55% of the sampled flora. The herbaceous plants (36.65%) were the most represented habit after which the sub-shrubs and shrubs (17,50% each), arboreal (16,25%) and climbing plants (13.12%) were classified. Among the total species 94.37% are natives, 15,62% are endemic to Brazil and 5,62% are exotic. Of the identified species, 10 spp. are in the Red List of the Flora Conservation National Center and 30 spp. are in the Red List of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. It can be concluded that the studied fragment has an important richness of plant species in an urban area, therefore it is necessary to create a Conservation Unity and a management plan in order to guarantee the conservation of the area.

Resumo A anatomia foliar ecológica do gênero Myrcia DC. ainda é pouco estudada. A espécie Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC., popularmente conhecida como mapirunga, ocorre em região de litoral no estado do Ceará e possui importância ecológica e potencial medicinal. Objetivou-se caracterizar a anatomia foliar ecológica dessa espécie nas estações de chuva e seca, bem como, ao sol e à sombra na Restinga cearense. Para isso, foram realizadas coletas no Jardim Botânico de São Gonçalo de folhas totalmente expandidas e fixadas em FAA70, sendo substituído por etanol 70% após 24 horas. Seguiu-se para os procedimentos anatômicos usuais no Laboratório de Ecologia da Universidade Estadual do Ceará, a fim de analisar qualitativamente e quantitativamente as estruturas da lâmina foliar, pecíolo e paradérmico. Como resultados obteve-se a presença de características que contribuem para sua sobrevivência em ambiente de Restinga com períodos de deficit hídrico e alta taxa de luminosidade, tais como: presença de cutícula levemente espessa, folha hipoestomática, aumento da densidade estomática em folhas de sol, presença de fibras abundantes nos feixes vasculares da nervura central e presença de drusas. Portanto, conclui-se que a planta em estudo possui grande capacidade aclimatativa às condições analisadas (intensa luminosidade e períodos de deficit hídrico).

Abstract The ecological foliar anatomy of the genus Myrcia DC. is still little studied. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) DC. species popularly known as mapirunga, occurs in a coastal region in the state of Ceará and has ecological importance and medicinal potential. The objective was to characterize the ecological foliar anatomy of this species in rainy and dry seasons, as well as, in the sun and shade in the Ceará’s Restinga. To do so, samples were collected in São Gonçalo Botanical Garden, with leaves totally expanded and fixed in FAA70, being replaced by 70% ethanol after 24 hours. It was followed to the usual anatomical procedures in the Ecology Laboratory of the Ceará State University, in order to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the structures of the leaf blade, petiole and paradermal sections. The results showed the presence of characteristics that contribute to its survival in a Restinga environment with periods of water deficit and high luminosity, such as: presence of slightly thick cuticle, hypoestomatic leaf, increased stomatal density in leaves of sun, presence of abundant fibers in the vascular bundles of the central vein and presence of drusen. Therefore, it is concluded that the plant under study has a great acclimative capacity to the analyzed conditions (intense luminosity and periods of water deficit).

RESUMO (O papel da Feira de Ciências como estratégia motivadora para o ensino de Botânica na educação básica). O ensino de Botânica é marcado por inúmeros problemas, como escassez de metodologias que motivem os alunos. Assim, foi proposto aos alunos das disciplinas de Botânica da Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Estadual do Ceará a elaboração de uma Feira de Ciências, com conteúdo exclusivamente botânico utilizando mapa conceitual e outro material de livre escolha. A feira ocorreu em uma escola da rede pública de Fortaleza, CE, Brasil, com participação de alunos de 9° ano ao 3º ano do Ensino Médio. Após sua realização, foi aplicado um questionário aos graduandos de forma a compreender a percepção deles a respeito da atividade. Observou-se que necessitam de uma série de fatores que possibilitem sua execução, dentre eles disponibilidade de recursos e tempo hábil para executá-la. Portanto, conclui-se que essa metodologia desperta o interesse dos alunos pelos assuntos abordados, desde que haja suporte para tal, podendo servir de complemento à metodologia exclusivamente expositiva.

ABSTRACT (The role of the Science Fair as a motivating strategy for teaching Botany in basic education). Botany teaching is marked by numerous problems, among them is the lack of methodologies to generate motivation in students. Thus, it was offered to the students of the subjects of Botany in Biological Sciences degree at the Universidade Estadual do Ceará to prepare teaching materials to compose a science fair, with only botanical content. The objective was to evaluate this alternative strategy and conceptual map as motivating factors for teaching botany. The fair took place in a school of the public network of Fortaleza, Ceará State, Brazil, with participation of students from 9th grade to 3rd year of high school. After the fair, a questionnaire was applied to students. It was realized that teaching strategies as the science fair require a number of factors that enable it to occur successfully, including the availability of resources and the time for performing it. Therefore, it was verified that this teaching strategy is a valuable tool that arouses students’ interest for the subjects and it may serve to complement traditional exhibition methodology.

RESUMO: O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o rendimento de biomassa vegetal de espécies presentes naturalmente em uma área com o solo salinizado no perímetro irrigado Curu-Pentecoste, no município de Pentecoste, CE, correlacionando com os atributos umidade, pH e condutividade elétrica (CE) do solo. O experimento foi realizado em 6 áreas, sendo a área 1 mais próxima do dreno coletor o extremo mais salinizado, e a área 6 mais distante do dreno coletor, o extremo menos salinizado. Utilizamos do delineamento fatorial no esquema 2 x 6, com primeiro fator referente às estações de coleta (seca e chuva), e o segundo relativo às áreas. Foram marcadas em cada uma das áreas 8 parcelas permanentes de 5 x 5m e em cada parcela permanente foram realizadas coletas da porção forrageira dentro de um quadrado de 0,25 x 0,25 m. Amostras de solo de 0-20 cm de profundidade foram coletadas para a obtenção da CE, do pH e da umidade do solo. A fitomassa foi secada em estufa, onde foram mensurados o seu conteúdo de água e biomassa seca. Três subamostras por área foram queimadas em mufla para a obtenção do seu conteúdo de cinzas. O pH e CE elevados do solo mostraram características típicas de solos de clima árido, que associados a uma significante diminuição da umidade desse, podem causar prejuízos na maioria dos cultivos no Nordeste brasileiro. Entretanto, o rendimento de biomassa foi elevado, o que demonstra que as espécies ali presentes possuem mecanismos adaptativos para tolerância aos estresses salino e hídrico.

ABSTRACT: This study was an endeavor undertaken to assess the biomass yield of the species that are native to a particular region characterized by saline soil, in the Irrigated Perimeter Curu-Pentecoste, in the municipality of Pentecoste-CE, corresponding to the qualities of moisture, pH and electrical conductivity (EC) of the soil. The experiment was conducted in six areas, with area 1, the one nearest to the collecting drain, the end having the highest salinity and area 6, the one furthest away from the collecting drain, the end with the lowest salinity. The factorial design with the 2 x 6 scheme was adopted, in which the first and second factors referred, respectively, to the seasons (drought and rain collection) and collection areas. In each area, eight permanent 5 x 5 m plots were demarcated, which included 8 repetitions per treatment. Within each permanent plot the quantity of forage was gathered within an area of 0.25 x 0.25 m. Soil samples were taken from a depth of 0-20 cm, and the EC, pH and soil moisture were determined. The phytomass was oven dried, after which the water content and yield were recorded. Three subsamples per area were burned in a muffle furnace to determine the percentage of ash content. The resultant high pH and EC values, typical of arid soils and related to the significantly low humidity, can cause harm to most of the crops cultivated in the Northeast of Brazil. However, the biomass yield was substantial, indicating that the species occurring there possessed adaptive mechanisms to enable them to tolerate the conditions of saline soil and water stresses prevalent there.

Abstract Aquaponics is a system that integrates aquaculture with plant production in which two species are benefited, and there is water saving. In this study was carried out with an aquaponic system to verify the interaction between the growth of the halophytes Batis maritime, Sarcocornia neei, and Sporobolus virginicus associated with white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei rearing. We also investigated if there were different responses of physicochemical variables of the water in the experimental shrimp culture ponds integrated into the growth of plants and control ponds, without plants, throughout a 56-day period. The treatment experiment and control presented a statistically significant difference in total dissolved solids, salinity, total suspended solids, ammonia, orthophosphate, and nitrite. In the experimental treatment, with the presence of plants and recirculating water, a reduction of total suspended solids, ammonia and orthophosphate was observed. The rate of shrimp production was not significantly different between treatments, and the performance was similar to that of other studies. The biomass gain of the halophyte B. maritima was 876.6 grams in 0.5 m² and of S. neei was 48.8 grams in 0.16 m². All plants of the species S. virginicus died during the experiment.

Resumo A espécie Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC. (murta) ocorre em região de litoral, no Estado do Ceará, e possui importância ecológica e medicinal. A presente pesquisa objetivou caracterizar a anatomia foliar da murta (E. punicifolia), nas estações de chuva e seca, bem como ao sol e à sombra, na Restinga cearense, pretendendo contribuir para a compreensão das variações morfoanatômicas em resposta às condições naturais de ocorrência da espécie. Para isso, foram realizadas coletas, no Parque Estadual Botânico do Ceará, de folhas totalmente expandidas e fixadas em FAA70, sendo substituído por etanol a 70%, após 24 horas. Seguiu-se para os procedimentos anatômicos usuais, a fim de analisar qualitativa e quantitativamente as estruturas da lâmina foliar, do pecíolo e da epiderme. Como resultado obteve-se que a murta apresenta características xeromórficas, como cutícula espessa, folha hipoestomática e fibras de esclerênquima nos feixes vasculares da nervura mediana. Portanto, conclui-se que a E. punicifolia possui grande plasticidade por conseguir ajustar-se bem nas condições analisadas.

Abstract The species Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC. (myrtle) occurs in the coastal region of the state of Ceará and has ecological and medicinal importance. This study aimed to characterize the leaf anatomy of myrtle (E. punicifolia) in the rainy and dry seasons, as well as in the sun and shade in the restinga region of the state of Ceará and to contribute to the understanding of the morphoanatomic variations in response to the natural conditions of the occurrence of this species. For this, collections of fully expanded leaves were performed at the Botanical Park of Ceará and fixed in FAA70, being replaced by 70% ethanol after 24 hours. The usual anatomical procedures were then performed in order to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the leaf blade, petiole and epidermis structures. As a result, it was found that myrtle has xeromorphic characteristics such as thick cuticle, hypoestomatic leaf and sclerenchyma fibers in the median vein vascular bundles. It was concluded that E. punicifolia has great plasticity to adjust well under the analyzed conditions.

RESUMO O Nordeste do Brasil é a segunda região em número de espécies registradas da família Myrtaceae, porém a Caatinga está bastante degradada, o que dificulta a preservação das espécies deste grupo. Objetivou-se caracterizar a morfologia de frutos, sementes, plântulas e a germinação de araçá (Psidium sobralianum) do vale do São Francisco. Os frutos foram coletados na Embrapa Semiárido, Petrolina, PE e submetidos as análises: formato, consistência e número de sementes por fruto; forma, cotilédones, hilo, eixo hipocótilo-radícula e tipo de embrião das sementes; coloração do epicarpo, mesocarpo, endocarpo e semente; diâmetros longitudinal, transversal e ventral de frutos e sementes; massas frescas e secas de frutos, polpa e sementes; teste de germinação; primeira contagem; índice de velocidade de germinação; comprimento das partes aérea e radicular; massas frescas e secas aérea e radicular; teste de embebição. P. sobralianum possui fruto solanídio, pétalas persistentes, formato globular, polispérmico, composto de epicarpo, mesocarpo, endocarpo e sementes. O epicarpo tem coloração verde com laranja, mesocarpo verde-claro e endocarpo branco. Sementes com aspecto piloso e ósseo, embrião pimentoide, cotilédones foliáceos, presença de opérculo, hilo e tegumento amarelo-claro. Germinação epígea fanerocotiledonar, com protrusão radicular a partir dos 26 dias após a semeadura (DAS), radícula curta, glabra, espessa, ápice arredondado e verde-claro. A germinação é lenta, provavelmente devido a barreira mecânica do tegumento, estabilizando-se apenas aos 90 DAS.

ABSTRACT The Northeast region of Brazil has the second highest number of species of the Myrtaceae family. It is mostly covered by the Caatinga biome, which is very degraded, making it difficult to preserve species of this family. Thus, the objective of this work was to describe the seed, seedling, and fruit morphology, and seed germination of Psidium sobralianum Landrum & Proença plants of the São Francisco Valley, Brazil. The fruits were collected in an area of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Semiarid), in Petrolina PE, Brazil. The evaluations consisted of determinations of fruit shape, consistency, and number of seeds; seed form, cotyledons, hilum, hypocotyl-radicle axis, and embryo type; epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp, and seed staining; longitudinal, transversal, and ventral diameters of fruits and seeds; fruit, pulp, and seed fresh and dry masses; germination test; first count of germinated seeds; germination speed index; shoot and root lengths; shoot and root fresh and dry masses; and imbibition test. Psidium sobralianum has polyspermic, berry fruits, subclassified as solanidium, with persistent sepals and globular shape, consisting of epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp and seeds. The fruits have green with orange epicarp, pale-green mesocarp, and white endocarp. The seeds have a pilose and bony aspect, a pimentoid type of embryo, foliaceous cotyledons, presence of operculum and hilum, and pale-yellow tegument. The germination is epigeal phanerocotiledonar, with root protrusion from 26 days after sowing (DAS); it presents a short, glabrous, thick radicle, and a rounded, pale-green apex. The germination is slow, probably due to the mechanical barrier of the tegument, and stabilizes at 90 DAS.

Resumo A presente pesquisa objetivou fazer a caracterização física, química, microbiológica e sensorial de geleias de manipuçá (Mouriri cesrensis Huber) como uma alternativa para a merenda escolar do Ensino Fundamental das escolas públicas municipais de Fortaleza-CE. Os frutos, nos estádios 4 (maduro) e 5 (senescente) de maturação, foram colhidos no Jardim Botânico de São Gonçalo, em São Gonçalo do Amarante–CE. Inicialmente, os frutos do manipuçá foram processados e, para obtenção de geleia, foram propostas cinco formulações (tratamentos), contendo diferentes proporções de água e polpa (4:1-F1; 4:2-F2; 4:3-F3 4:4-F4; e 4:5-F5), que em seguida foram submetidas às análises físico-químicas (sólidos solúveis totais- SST; acidez total titulável-ATT; pH; relação SST/ATT-RSA; vitamina C-VC; açúcares solúveis totais-AST, redutores-AR e não redutores-ANR), microbiológica (coliformes a 35ºC-CF) e sensoriais (aroma-A; cor-C; aparência-AP; sabor-S; textura-T; e intenção de compra-IC). Utilizou-se o programa Assistat nas análises estatísticas. Os resultados apresentaram a seguinte variação nas cinco formulações: SST (°Brix) – 72 (F1) a 85,12 (F5); ATT (%) – 0,95 (F1) a 0,54 (F5); pH – 4,09 (F1) a 4,30 (F5); RSA – 75,22 (F1) a 156,20 (F5); VC (mg/100 g) - 7,40 (F2) a 14,19 (F5); AST (%) - 63,97 (F1) a 79,73 (F5); AR (%) - 44,53 (F2) a 66,98 (F5); ANR (%) - 12,47 (F1) a 32,98 (F4); ausência de CF; para A, C, AP, S e T, a F5 foi superior a F2, F3, F4 e igual a F1; e para IC a F5 foi superior a todas. Conclui-se que: a F5 é a mais doce e menos ácida; entretanto, a F1 é a menos doce e mais ácida; a F5 obteve maior aceitação entre os estudantes, portanto esta é a formulação ideal para ser utilizada como alternativa na merenda escolar dos alunos de Ensino Fundamental das escolas municipais de Fortaleza-CE.

Abstract This research aimed to characterize the physical, chemical, microbiological and sensory characterization of manipuçá (Mouriri cearensis Huber) jellies as an alternative to school meals of an elementary public school in Fortaleza-CE. The fruits, in maturation stages 4 (mature) and 5 (senescent), were collected in the Botanical Garden of São Gonçalo, in São Gonçalo do Amarante-CE. Initially, the fruits of manipuça were processed and to obtain the jelly five formulations were proposed (treatments) containing different proportions of water and pulp (4:1-F1; 4:2-F2, 4:3-F3: 4:4-F4; and 4:5-F5), which then they were subjected to physicochemical analysis (total soluble solids-TSS; total titratable acidity-TTA; pH; TSS/TTA ratio-SAR; vitamin C-CV; total soluble sugar-TSSu, reducing sugar-RS and non-reducing sugars-NRS), microbiological (coliforms at 35°C-CF) and sensory (aroma-A; color-C; appearance-AP; flavor-F; texture-T; and the purchaser intends-PI). We used the Assistat program in statistical analyzes. The results showed the following variation in the five formulations: TSS (°Brix) - 72 (F1) to 85.12 (F5); TTA (%) - 0.95 (F1) to 0.54 (F5); pH - 4.09 (F1) to 4.30 (F5); SAR - 75.22 (F1) to 156.20 (F5); CV (mg / 100g) - 7.40 (F2) to 14.19 (F5); TS (%) - 63.97 (F1) to 79.73 (F5); RS (%) - 44.53 (F2) to 66.98 (F5); NRS (%) - 12.47 (F1) to 32.98 (F4); absence of CF; for A, C, AP, F and T, F5 was greater than F2, F3, F4 and equals to F1; and for PI, F5 was superior to all. In conclusion: the F5 is sweeter and less acidic, however, the F1 is less sweet and more acidic; the F5 obtained greater acceptance among students, so this is the ideal formulation to use as an alternative to school meals for primary school students from public schools in Fortaleza-CE.

Resumo A espécie Eugenia luschnathiana (O.Berg) Klotzsch ex B.D.Jacks. (Myrtaceae), vulgarmente conhecida como pitomba-da-baía, ocorre em região de Restinga no Estado do Ceará e possui potencial medicinal. O presente estudo objetivou caracterizar a anatomia foliar da E. luschnathiana nas estações de chuva e seca, bem como ao sol e à sombra na Restinga cearense, visando a gerar informações úteis para a compreensão do valor aclimatativo das respostas morfoanatômicas às condições naturais de ocorrência da espécie. Foram realizadas coletas, no Parque Estadual Botânico do Ceará, de folhas completamente expandidas e fixadas em FAA70, sendo substituído por etanol a 70%, após 24 h. As amostras foram submetidas a metodologias-padrão em anatomia vegetal, a fim de analisar qualitativa e quantitativamente as estruturas da lâmina foliar e do pecíolo. Como resultado, verificaram-se diferenças entre folhas de sol e sombra na chuva e na seca. Em relação à luminosidade, a maioria das determinações foi maior nas folhas de sol: densidade e frequência de tricomas; frequência de cicatriz de tricomas; frequência estomática, índice estomático, comprimento, largura e área dos estômatos; espessura da lâmina foliar, mesófilo, cutícula, epiderme, parênquima paliçádico e esponjoso; comprimento e largura da nervura central, área do feixe vascular da nervura central, quantidade de cavidades secretoras na nervura central; comprimento e largura do pecíolo, área do feixe vascular do pecíolo, quantidade e área de cavidades secretoras no pecíolo. Nas folhas de sombra, apenas a quantidade de drusas na nervura central e no pecíolo foram maiores. Em relação à sazonalidade, todas as determinações foi maior na estação de chuva, com exceção do comprimento e da largura da nervura central; quantidade de drusas na nervura central e no pecíolo, comprimento do pecíolo, área do feixe vascular e das cavidades secretoras do pecíolo. Portanto, conclui-se que a E. luschnathiana possui grande capacidade aclimatativa às condições de intensa luminosidade e períodos de déficit hídrico.

Abstract Eugenia luschnathiana (O.Berg) Klotzsch ex B.D.Jacks. (Myrtaceae) species, commonly known as pitomba-da-baía, occurs in Restinga region in the state of Ceara and has medicinal potential. The present study aimed to characterize the anatomy of E. luschnathiana leaves in the rainy and dry seasons, as well as in the sun and shade in the Restinga region of Ceara, aiming to generate useful information to understand the adaptive value of morphoanatomic responses to the natural conditions of occurrence of the species. Collections were performed at the State Botanical Park of Ceara, and leaves were completely expanded and fixed in FAA70, being replaced by 70% ethanol after 24 h. Samples were submitted to standard plant anatomy methodologies in order to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the leaf blade and petiole structures. As a result, there were differences among sun and shade leaves, rain and dry. In relation to luminosity, most determinations were higher in sun leaves: trichome density and frequency; trichome scar frequency; stomatal frequency, stomatal index, length, width and area of stomata; thickness of leaf blade, mesophyll, cuticle, epidermis, palisade and spongy parenchyma; length and width of the central vein, area of the central vein vascular bundle, number of secretory cavities in the central vein; length and width of the petiole, area of the petiole vascular bundle; amount and area of secretory cavities in the petiole. In shade leaves, only the number of druses in the central vein and petiole were larger. Regarding seasonality, all determinations were higher in the rainy season, except for the length and width of the central vein; number of druses in the central vein and petiole; length of the petiole, area of the vascular bundle and secretory cavities of the petiole. Therefore, it could be concluded that E. luschnathiana has great acclimative capacity to conditions of intense luminosity and periods of water deficit.

RESUMO As frutas fornecem não somente nutrientes essenciais à alimentação, mas também compostos bioativos que promovem benefícios à saúde e auxiliam na redução do risco de desenvolvimento de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. Neste mesmo sentido, o presente trabalho objetivou quantificar os compostos bioativos durante a maturação de quatro frutas nativas da Restinga cearense. Os frutos da murta (Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC.) foram colhidos no Parque Estadual Botânico do Ceará, em Caucaia-CE, e os do guajiru (Chrisobalanus icaco L.), do manipuçá (Mouriri cearensis Huber) e do murici-pitanga (Byrsonima gardneriana A. Juss.) no Jardim Botânico de São Gonçalo, em São Gonçalo do Amarante–CE. Os frutos foram coletados em diferentes estádios (E) e transportados ao Laboratório de Ecofisiologia Vegetal, sendo caracterizados em cinco ou seis estádios de maturação, de acordo com a coloração da casca, depois processados e congelados para as avaliações físico-químicas e químicas: ácido ascórbico, clorofila total, carotenoides totais, antocianinas totais e flavonoides amarelos. Utilizou-se do delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco ou seis tratamentos, dependendo dos estádios de maturação do fruto, e quatro repetições. O fruto do murici-pitanga foi superior para ácido ascórbico (646,23 mg ácido ascórbico/100 g no E5), carotenoides totais (6,13 mg/100 g no E5) e antocianinas totais (7,99 mg/100 g no E2); e o fruto da murta foi superior para clorofila (11,05 mg/100 g no E1) e flavonoides amarelos (69,11 mg/100 g no E2). Existem correlações positivas e significativas entre clorofila e carotenoides (R= 0,99; P < 0,01) para o manipuçá, e entre antocianina e flavonoides amarelos (R= 0,97; P < 0,05) para o murici-pitanga; no entanto, a correlação é negativa e significativa entre ácido ascórbico e flavonoides amarelos (R= -0,98; P < 0,05) na murta. Conclui-se que o murici-pitanga e a murta têm os maiores números de compostos bioativos com os níveis mais altos; portanto, ambos os frutos podem ser recomendados para serem explorados comercialmente pelos setores de alimentação, cosméticos e fitoterápicos.

ABSTRACT Fruits provide not only essential nutrients for food, but also bioactive compounds that promote health benefits and help reducing the risk of developing non-communicable chronic diseases. In this sense, this work aimed at quantifying bioactive compounds during the maturation of four fruits native to the Restinga forest of Ceara. Myrtle fruits (Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC.) were collected at the Botanical State Park of Ceara, Caucaia-CE, and guajiru (Chrisobalanus icaco L.), manipuça (Mouriri cearensis Huber) and murici-pitanga fruits (Byrsonima gardneriana A. Juss.) at the Botanical Garden of São Gonçalo, São Gonçalo do Amarante-CE. Fruits were collected at different stages (E) and transported to the Laboratory of Plant Ecophysiology, being characterized into five or six maturation stages according to the bark color, then processed and frozen for the following physicochemical and chemical evaluations: ascorbic acid, total chlorophyll, total carotenoids, total anthocyanins and yellow flavonoids. A completely randomized design was used, with five or six treatments, depending on the maturation stages of fruits and four replicates. Murici-pitanga had higher contents of ascorbic acid (ascorbic acid 646.23 mg/100 g E5), total carotenoids (6.13 mg/100 g E5) and total anthocyanins (7.99 mg/100 g E2); and myrtle had higher contents of total chlorophyll (11.05 mg/100 g E1) and yellow flavonoid (69.11 mg/100 g E2). There are positive and significant correlations between chlorophyll and carotenoid (R= 0.99; P <0.01) for manipuça and between anthocyanin and yellow flavonoid (R= 0.97; P <0.05) for murici-pitanga fruits; however, the correlation is negative and significant between ascorbic acid and yellow flavonoids (R= -0.98; P <0.05) for myrtle fruits. It could be concluded that murici-pitanga and myrtle fruits had the highest contents of bioactive compounds with the highest levels, therefore both fruits can be recommended to be commercially exploited by the food, cosmetic and phytomedicine sectors.

RESUMO: Marmeleiros são conhecidos popularmente pelas suas ações medicinais presentes em seus óleos essenciais. A pesquisa objetivou analisar o óleo essencial de folhas de três espécies de Croton (Croton argyrophylloides, Croton jacobinensis, and Croton sincorensis), a fim de verificar se os horários e períodos do ano causam diferenças no rendimento e na composição. Foram coletadas 1500g de folhas verdes de cada espécie em Viçosa do Ceará - CE, às 6 e 12 horas, no período das estações seca e das chuvas. A extração ocorreu pelo método de arraste a vapor de água e a composição foi analisada por cromatografia gasosa acoplada a espectrometria de massa (CG/EM). O maior rendimento de C. argyrophylloides e C. jacobinensis foi no período seco às 12h, e de C. sincorensis foi no período chuvoso às 6h. O biciclogermacreno apresentou maior concentração em C. argyrophylloides (28,09 a 30,59%), C. jacobinensis (25,2 a 30,14%) e C. sincorensis (23,86 e 21,71%), com exceção do C. sincorensis às 6h sendo o majoritário o (E)-cariofileno (25,34 %). O rendimento e a composição das espécies estudadas foram influenciadas pela pluviosidade, temperatura e incidência solar, apresentando diferença estatística entre os horários estudados. As espécies produzem constituintes com propriedades biológicas específicas, podendo ser utilizadas como fonte natural dos mesmos.

ABSTRACT: Marmeleiros are popularly known for the medicinal properties ascribed to their essential oils. This research aimed to analyze the essential oil of leaves from three Croton species (Croton argyrophylloides, Croton jacobinensis, and Croton sincorensis), to verify whether the daily time and harvest season in the year may interfere with their essential oils performance and composition. From each species, 1,500g of green leaves were harvested in Viçosa do Ceará - CE, at 6am and 12pm, during both dry and rainy seasons. Essential oil extraction was conducted by the method of water vapor drag and chemical profile was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The highest yield was obtained at 12pm in the dry season for C. argyrophylloides and C. jacobinensis, and at 6am in the rainy season for C. sincorensis. Bicyclogermacrene demonstrated higher relative abundance in C. argyrophylloides (28.09 to 30.59%), C. jacobinensis (25.2 to 30.14%), and C. sincorensis (23.86 and 21.71%), and the only exception was at 6am in C. sincorensis, where (E)-caryophyllene was the most abundant compound (25.34%). The yield and composition of the studied species were influenced by rainfall, temperature, and sunlight, presenting statistical significant differences between the different periods studied. The species produce constituents with specific biological properties; and therefore, they can be used as a natural source.

RESUMO A presente pesquisa objetivou quantificar os compostos polifenólicos e a atividade antioxidante de quatro frutas nativas do litoral cearense, em diferentes estádios de maturação, visando a sua utilização para uma alimentação mais saudável. Os frutos da murta (Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC.) foram colhidos no Parque Estadual Botânico do Ceará, em Caucaia-CE, e os do guajiru ( L.), do Chrisobalanus icacomanipuçá (Mouriri cearensis Huber) e do murici-pitanga (Byrsonima gardneriana A. Juss.), no Jardim Botânico de São Gonçalo, em São Gonçalo do Amarante–CE. Os frutos foram coletados e transportados ao Laboratório de Ecofisiologia Vegetal, sendo caracterizados, depois processados e congelados para as avaliações químicas, no Laboratório de Fisiologia e Tecnologia Pós-Colheita, da Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical: compostos polifenólicos e atividade antioxidante total. Utilizou-se o programa ESTAT nas análises estatísticas. O teor de polifenólicos teve o maior e o menor valor para o fruto de guajiru, com 480,73 e 10,90 mg/100 g, respectivamente, e à atividade antioxidante total, o maior valor foi no fruto do manipuçá, com 42,99 µM de Trolox/g de polpa, e o menor valor, no fruto do guajiru, com 1,45 µM de Trolox/g de polpa. Observou-se correlação significativa e negativa entre os polifenólicos e a atividade antioxidante total obtidos nos frutos do guajiru, que apresentou alto coeficiente de correlação, R= -0,95 (P < 0,05).

ABSTRACT This study aimed to quantify polyphenolic compounds and antioxidant activity of four fruits native to the coast of Ceara under different maturation stages aiming their use for a healthier diet. Myrtle (Eugenia punicifolia (Kunth) DC.) fruits were collected at the Botanical State Park of Ceara, in Caucaia-CE and guajiru (Chrisobalanus icaco L.), manipuça (Mouriri cearensis Huber) and murici-pitanga (Byrsonima gardneriana A. Juss.) fruits were collected at the Botanical Garden of São Gonçalo, São Gonçalo do Amarante-CE. Fruits were collected and transported to the Laboratory of Plant Ecophysiology, being characterized, processed and frozen for chemical assessments at the Laboratory of Physiology and Postharvest Technology - Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical: polyphenolic compounds and total antioxidant activity. The ESTAT software was used for statistical analyses. The polyphenolic content had the highest and the lowest value for guajiru fruits with 480.73 and 10.90 mg/100 g, respectively and total antioxidant activity, the highest value was found for manipuça fruits, with 42.99 µM of Trolox/g of pulp and the lowest value for guajiru fruits, with 1.45 µM of Trolox/g of pulp. There was a significant correlation between polyphenolic content and total antioxidant activity obtained for guajiru fruits, which showed high correlation coefficient, R = -0.95 (P < 0.05).
