Neste estudo, foram investigados os parasitos de Mytella guyanensis da Baía de Camamu (BA). As amostragens foram feitas mensalmente entre setembro de 2006 e outubro de 2007 e totalizaram 460 animais, que foram fixados em solução de Davidson e processados por técnica rotineira de histologia, com inclusão em parafina e coloração por hematoxilina de Harris e eosina. Foram evidenciados organismos assemelhados a Rickettsia (RLOs); Nematopsis sp. (Apicomplexa) e Platyhelminthes, incluindo um turbelário, esporocistos de Bucephalus sp. e o cestoide Tylocephalum sp. Os parasitos foram encontrados principalmente nas brânquias, no manto e na glândula digestiva. Todos os animais apresentaram Nematopsis sp., o que causou alteração nos palpos labiais em exemplares com alta infecção. RLOs ocorreram em alta prevalência e intensidade de infecção em alguns períodos. Esporocistos de trematódeos digenéticos, com prevalência moderada, mostraram-se em alta intensidade de infecção e causaram castração parasitária. Não houve variação temporal e espacial significativa (p > 0,05) dos parasitos, o que provavelmente se deveu à pequena amplitude de variação da temperatura e da salinidade na região.

This contribution reports the parasites found in the mangrove mussel Mytella guyanensis in Camamu Bay, Bahia, Brazil. Samples were collected monthly from September 2006 through October 2007. A total of 460 individuals were collected, fixed in Davidson's solution, and processed by standard histological techniques, and the sections were stained with Harris hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). The water temperature ranged from 23.5 to 31.6 ºC, and the salinity from 25 to 37‰. Microscopic analysis showed Rickettsia-like organisms (RLOs), Nematopsis sp. (Apicomplexa), and Platyhelminthes, including a turbellarian, sporocysts of Bucephalus sp., metacercariae, and metacestodes of Tylocephalum sp. Parasites were observed mainly in the gills, mantle, and digestive gland. The prevalence of Nematopsis sp. was 100%, and in heavily infected mussels the tissues of the labial palps were damaged. RLOs occurred in high prevalence and intensity of infection in some periods. The digenean sporocysts showed moderate prevalence but high intensity of infection, and caused parasitic castration. In general, there was no significant spatial or temporal variation (p > 0.05) of the parasites, which is probably attributable to the small variations of temperature and salinity in the region.

The objective of this study was to determine the taxonomic composition and ecological aspects of decapods crustacean species belonging to the infraorders Anomura and Brachyura in shallow marine and estuarine waters from southern Bahia, a coastline about 640 km in extent, corresponding to approximately 7% of the Brazilian coast. Sixteen species of the infraorder Anomura and 68 of the infraorder Brachyura are reported for the study area. The most important families in terms of number of species were the Panopeidae with 11 species, and the Ocypodidae and Portunidae with 9. Among the Brachyura, the southern distribution of the species Austinixa leptodactyla Coelho, 1997 (Pinnotheridae), endemic to Brazil, is extended from the coast of Sergipe to Bahía (Prado, Cumuruxatiba Beach, 17°06'18.6"S, 39°10'50.4"W). The ocypodid Uca (Leptuca) cumulanta Crane, 1943 and also the pinnotherids Austinixa aidae (Righi, 1967) and Fabia byssomiae (Say, 1818) are reported for the first time from the Bahia coast. The specimen of F. byssomiae examined was collected in the mantle cavity of the clam Macoma constrict (Bruchiére, 1792) (Bivalvia: Tellinidae), a new host record for the species.

El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la composición taxonómica y aspectos ecológicos de los crustáceos decápodos pertenecientes a los infraórdenes Anomura y Brachyura, en aguas someras, marinas y estuarinas del sur de Bahia, Brasil, una línea costera con cerca de 640 km de extensión, que corresponde aproximadamente al 7% de la costa brasileña. Para esta area de estudio se registraron 16 especies del infraorden Anomura y 68 del infraorden Brachyura. Las familias más representativas en términos de número de especies fueron Panopeidae, con 11 especies, y Ocypodidae y Portunidae, ambas con nueve especies. Entre los Brachyura, la distribución meridional de Austinixa leptodactyla Coelho, 1997 (Pinnotheridae), endémica del Brasil, se extiende desde la costa de Sergipe hasta la costa de Bahia (Municipalidad de Prado, Playa de Cumuruxatiba, 17°06'18.6"S, 39°10'50.4"W). Se reportó por primera vez para Bahia el ocipódido Uca (Leptuca) cumulanta Crane, 1943, al igual que los pinotéridos Austinixa aidae (Righi, 1967) y Fabia byssomiae (Say, 1818). El único espécimen de F. byssomiae fue recolectado al interior de la cavidad paleal del molusco Macoma constricta (Bruchiére, 1792) (Bivalvia: Tellinidae), representando un nuevo huésped para esta especie.

Ostras do gênero Crassostrea rhizophorae foram coletadas mensalmente no Estuário do Rio Jaguaribe, litoral Leste do Estado do Ceará, Brasil, entre agosto de 2000 e dezembro de 2001, totalizando 170 animais. A temperatura da água do local variou de 26 a 30 °C e a salinidade de 21 a 42‰. O tamanho dos animais variou de 3,4 a 7,2 cm de altura de concha. As ostras foram submetidas à análise macroscópica e histopatológica dos tecidos. Os exames histológicos evidenciaram protozoários e metazoários dos gêneros Nematopsis e Tylocephalum, respectivamente. A prevalência de Nematopsis variou de 60 a 100% e foi maior nas brânquias e manto. Os oocistos apresentaram tamanho médio de 11,5 µm (±1,32) e 9,1 µm (±1,06), (n = 30), sendo observados até 3 oocistos/fagócito. Alguns animais apresentaram reação hemocítica focal. A porcentagem de Tylocephalum foi de 1,7%. Apesar da elevada prevalência de infecção por Nematopsis, aparentemente os animais parasitados não tiveram o seu ciclo reprodutivo prejudicado.

Mangrove oysters Crassostrea rhizophorae were sampled monthly in the estuary of Jaguaribe River, on the east coast of Ceará State, Brazil, between August, 2000 and December, 2001, making up 170 individuals. The water temperature varied from 26 to 30 °C and salinity from 21 to 42‰. The animals' size ranged from 3.4 to 7.2 cm height. Macroscopical and histopathological analyses were carried out in the oysters' tissues. The histological exams showed protozoans and metazoans of genera Nematopsis and Tylocephalum, respectively. Nematopsis prevalence varied from 60 to 100% and it was higher in the gills and mantle. The oocysts presented a mean size of 11.5 µm (±1.32) length and 9.1 µm (±1.06) width (n = 30), up to 3 oocysts/phagocyte having been observed. Several animals presented focal hemocitical reaction. The percentage of Tylocephalum was 1.7%. In spite of the high infection prevalence by Nematopsis, infected animals did not have their reproductive cycle impaired.
