The aim of this study was to investigate the maternal-offspring relationships in the bovine breeds Nellore PO (Pure Breed) and Nellore CL (Cara Limpa) in Bahia State. The genetic composition of breeds did not affect LP (latency time to stand); this variable showed mean values of 71 min and 52 min, respectively, for Nellore PO and Nellore CL. The variable LPTM (latency time to begin suckling after standing) was significantly higher for Nellore PO (mean values of 39 min) tham for Nellore CL (18 min). The variable TCC (time in contact with the calf) was classified as class 4 (60 to 80% of the time was spent with the calves). The P120 (weight at 120 days) had mean values of 122.3 kg and 122.7 kg respectively, for Nellore PO and Nellore CL. In conclusion, the maternal-offspring behaviour had little influence of the genetic composition of the breeds. These results suggest that more studies are necessary to define technological parameters for cattle raising in Bahia State.

O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar as relações materno-filiais em animais Nelore PO (Puro de Origem) e Nelore CL (Cara Limpa), no Estado da Bahia. A composição genética não influenciou na LP (latência para ficar em pé) e apresentou valores médios de 71 e 52 minutos para o Nelore PO e Nelore CL, respectivamente. Na LPTM (latência para tentar mamar após fica em pé) foram observados valores médios de 39 minutos para o Nelore PO e 18 minutos para Nelore CL. Para variável TCC (tempo de contato com a cria), tanto as vacas PO quanto as CL obtiveram classe 4 (mantiveram em média de 60 a 80% de contato com a cria). O P120 (peso aos 120 dias), mostrou valores médios de 122,3 kg e 122,7 kg, respectivamente para PO e CL. Conclui-se que os comportamentos materno-filiais não sofreram diferenças em relação aos rebanhos para a maioria das variáveis estudadas. Os resultados deste estudo sugerem continuidade na pesquisa em busca de elementos que possam servir de parâmetro tecnológico a ser aplicado ao Estado da Bahia.

The optimization of the thin layer chromatography (TLC) method to determine aflatoxins in feedstuffs and the evaluation of their occurrence in feedstuffs for milk-yielding does in the state of Bahia were studied. Eighty feedstuff samples were collected from five farms, located in the Recôncavo Baiano, from November 2000 to August 2002. The samples were analyzed using TLC modified method. In this study, the detection and quantification limits were 5 and 8m g/kg, respectively. The percentage of average recoveries obtained for AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, and AFG2 were 81.0; 97.2; 89.3; and 90.3%, respectively; and the coefficient of variation ranged from 0.83 to 4.1%. The results revealed that the optimization of TLC methodology is efficient to analyze aflatoxins in feedstuffs. The presence of these aflatoxins was not detected in any of the analyzed samples, demonstrating good quality of those products, regarding the contamination by these toxins.
