We aimed to estimate the prevalence and factors associated with parents’ non-intention to vaccinate their children and adolescents against COVID-19 in Colombia and Peru. We performed a secondary analysis using a database generated by the University of Maryland and Facebook (Facebook, Inc). We included adult (18 and over) Facebook users residing in LAC who responded to the survey between May 20, and November 5, 2021. We included sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidities, mental health, economic and food insecurity, compliance with mitigation strategies against COVID-19, and practices related to vaccination against this disease. We estimated crude (cPR) and adjusted (aPR) prevalence ratios with their respective 95%CI. We analyzed a sample of 44,678 adults from Colombia and 24,302 from Peru. The prevalence of parents' non-intention to vaccinate their children and adolescents against COVID-19 was 7.41% (n=3,274) for Colombia and 6.64% (n=1,464) for Peru. In Colombia, age above 35 years old, compliance with physical distancing, use of masks, having economic insecurity, anxiety symptoms, having a chronic condition or more comorbidities, and being vaccinated were associated with a lower prevalence of non-intention to vaccinate children and adolescents against COVID-19. In Peru, gender, compliance with physical distancing, use of masks, having economic insecurity, anxiety symptoms, having a chronic condition or more comorbidities, having had COVID-19, and being vaccinated were associated with a higher probability of vaccinating children against COVID-19. Living in a town, a village, or a rural area was associated with a higher prevalence of non-intention to vaccinate children and adolescents against COVID-19. About 9 out of 10 parents in Colombia and Peru intend to vaccinate their children and adolescents against COVID-19. This intention is associated with some factors which are similar between the two countries, as well as other factors and variations among the different regions of each country.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the factors associated with a positive cervical cytology result in the Pap smear test in a sample of Peruvian women from Lima, Peru - 2013. Methods: We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study including women from 21 to 64 years and we used the Pap smear test to evaluate cervical cytology. We included sociodemographic and medical history variables obtained from medical records of the patients. We elaborated generalized linear models from Poisson family with robust variances to evaluate the factors associated with positive cytology. The association measure reported was the prevalence ratio (PR) with their respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Results: We analyzed 11110 women with a mean age of 41.5 ± 10.9 years and a prevalence of a positive Pap smear test of 2.8%. In the adjusted model, we found that women between 21 and 30 years old (aPR=1.97; 95%CI:1.30-3.00), 31 to 40 years (aPR=2.56; 95%CI:1.76 -3.72) and 41 to 50 years (aPR=2.16; 95%CI:1.47-3.17), single (aPR=1.41; 95%CI:1.10-1.83), widowed or divorced (aPR=1.90; 95%CI:1.27-2.87), with a sexual life onset before 16 years (aPR=1.30; 95%CI:1.01- 1.68) or between 16 and 19 years (aPR=1.69; 95%CI:1.22-2.36) had a greater prevalence of a positive cervical cytology result. Conclusions: Cervical cancer is a public health problem in Peru, then, identifying the factors associated will allow us to improve screening strategies and prioritize groups at higher risk.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Evaluar los factores asociados a un resultado de citología cervical positiva en la prueba de Papanicolau en una muestra de mujeres peruanas en Lima, Perú - 2013. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal analítico que incluyó a mujeres con edades entre 21 a 64 años y empleó la prueba de Papanicolaou para evaluar la citología cervical. Se incluyó factores sociodemográficos y antecedentes de la mujer obtenidos de la historia clínica de las pacientes. Se realizaron modelos lineales generalizados de familia Poisson con varianzas robustas para evaluar los factores asociados a la citología positiva. La medida de asociación reportada fue la razón de prevalencia (RP) con sus respectivos intervalos de confianza al 95% (IC95%). Resultados: Se incluyeron a 11110 mujeres en el análisis con una edad media de 41,5±10,9 años y la prevalencia de un resultado positivo en la prueba de Papanicolau fue de 2,8%. En el modelo ajustado, se halló que tener entre 21 a 30 años (RPa=1,97;IC95%:1,30-3,00), 31 a 40 años (RPa=2,56;IC95%:1,76-3,72) y 41 a 50 años (RPa=2,16;IC95%:1,47-3,17), ser soltera (RPa=1,41;IC95%:1,10-1,83), viuda o divorciada (RPa=1,90;IC95%:1,27-2,87), haber tenido inicio de vida sexual antes de los 16 años (RPa=1,30;IC95%:1,01-1,68) o entre los 16 a 19 años (RPa=1,69;IC95%:1,22-2,36) se asoció a una mayor probabilidad de presentar un resultado de citología cervical positivo. Conclusiones: El cáncer de cuello uterino representa un problema de salud pública en Perú, por lo que identificar sus factores asociados es útil para mejorar las estrategias de tamizaje, priorizando grupos de mayor riesgo.

Conversely, having COVID-19 symptoms (PR=1.06; 95% CI: 1.03-1.09), economic insecurity (PR=1.04; 95% CI: 1.01-1.06), fears of becoming seriously ill or that a family member becomes seriously ill from COVID-19 (PR=1.49; 95% CI: 1.36-1.64) and the AVR of family and friends (PR=1.10; 95% CI: 1.08-1.12), healthcare workers (PR=1.29; 95% CI: 1.26-1.32), World Health Organization (PR=1.34; 95% CI: 1.29-1.40) and government officials (PR=1.18; 95% CI: 1.15-1.22) was associated with a higher prevalence of the ITV. Conclusions: Three-quarters of the respondents had the ITV. There are potentially modifiable factors that could improve vaccine acceptance.

RESUMEN Objetivos: Estimar la prevalencia y los factores asociados a la intención de vacunación (IDV) contra la COVID-19 en el Perú. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal analítico utilizando una encuesta realizada por la Universidad de Maryland, EUA, en Facebook. La variable dependiente fue la IDV. Se calcularon razones de prevalencia (RP) crudas y ajustadas, con sus intervalos de confianza al 95% (IC95%), mediante modelos lineales generalizados de la familia Poisson para evaluar la asociación de variables sociodemográficas, el cumplimiento de estrategias comunitarias de mitigación, los síntomas de la COVID-19, la salud mental y la aceptación de la vacunación ante la recomendación (AVR) por diversos actores y autoridades sanitarias. Resultados: Se analizaron los datos de 17 162 adultos. La prevalencia general de la IDV fue del 74,9%. Se asociaron a una menor prevalencia de la IDV ser de sexo femenino (RP=0,95; IC95%:0,94-0,97), vivir en un pueblo (RP=0,95; IC95%:0,91-0,99) o en una aldea u otra área rural (RP=0,90; IC95%:0,86-0,93) y la AVR de políticos (RP=0,89; IC95%: 0,87-0,92). Contrariamente, tener síntomas de COVID-19 (RP=1,06; IC95%:1,03-1,09), inseguridad económica (RP=1,04; IC95%: 1,01-1,06), miedo a enfermar o que un familiar enferme de COVID-19 (RP=1,49; IC95%: 1,36-1,64) y la AVR de familiares y amigos (RP=1,10; IC95%: 1,08-1,12), trabajadores de la salud (RP=1,29; IC95%: 1,26-1,32), la Organización Mundial de la Salud (RP=1,34; IC95%: 1,29-1,40) y funcionarios del gobierno (RP=1,18; IC95%: 1,15-1,22) se asociaron con mayor prevalencia de IDV. Conclusiones: Tres cuartas partes de los encuestados manifiestan IDV. Existen factores potencialmente modificables que podrían mejorar la aceptación de la vacuna.

ABSTRACT Objective: Previous research agrees that food fortification is the best long-term strategy for preventing iron deficiency. Our goal is to evaluate the effect of a dairy mixture fortified with iron and zinc on hemoglobin levels in children aged 2 to 10 years. Material and methods: A randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial was conducted in a community located 2,590 meters above sea level. Children with normal levels of hemoglobin or mild anemia were included. We assign participants to receive the iron-zinc-fortified dairy mixture or an unfortified dairy mixture. The supplement was administered five days a week for 24 weeks. Our main result was the corrected hemoglobin level taking into account the height above sea level and anthropometric indices were evaluated as a secondary result. The magnitude of the difference observed between the groups was estimated by the Student t-test. All analyzes were done with the intention to treat. Results: 67 children were randomly assigned, intervention: n=32 and control: n=35. The mean age was 5.8 years; 30 were women. Hemoglobin at the end of the follow-up was 13.1 g/dL (0.9) in the experimental group, while, in the control group, it was 12.1 g/dL (0.8); p <0.001. Likewise, a positive difference was evidenced in the anthropometric indicators in the experimental group. Conclusion: Dairy mixture fortified with iron and zinc increases hemoglobin levels and anthropometric indices in children from 2 to 10 years old.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Investigaciones anteriores coinciden en que el enriquecimiento de alimentos es la mejor estrategia a largo plazo en la prevención de la deficiencia de hierro. Nuestro objetivo es evaluar el efecto de una mezcla láctea fortificada con hierro y zinc sobre los niveles de hemoglobina en niños de 2 a 10 años. Material y métodos: Se realizó un ensayo clínico aleatorizado, doble ciego, controlado con en una comunidad ubicada a 2.590 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Se incluyeron niños con niveles normales de hemoglobina o anemia leve. Asignamos a los participantes que recibieran la mezcla láctea fortificada con hierro y zinc o una mezcla láctea no fortificada. El suplemento se administró cinco días a la semana durante 24 semanas. Nuestro resultado principal fue el nivel de hemoglobina corregida tomando en cuenta la altura sobre el nivel del mar y los índices antropométricos se evaluaron como resultado secundario. La magnitud de la diferencia observada entre los grupos se estimó mediante la prueba t de Student. Todos los análisis se realizaron por intención de tratar. Resultados: Se asignaron al azar 67 niños, intervención: n=32 y control: n=35. La edad media fue de 5,8 años; 30 eran mujeres. La hemoglobina al final del seguimiento fue 13,1 gr/dL (0,9) en el grupo experimental mientras que, en el grupo control, fue de 12,1 gr/dL (0,8); p <0,001. Asimismo, se evidenció una diferencia positiva en los indicadores antropométricos en el grupo experimental. Conclusión: La mezcla láctea fortificada con hierro y zinc aumenta los niveles de hemoglobina y los índices antropométricos en niños de 2 a 10 años.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the clinical, laboratory and treatment characteristics of COVID-19 patients and to determine the factors associated with mortality during hospital stay. Materials and Methods: Retrospective cohort study of adult COVID-19 inpatients. The clinical, laboratory and treatment data were obtained from the medical records of patients from the Hospital Nivel III Daniel Alcides Carrión in Tacna. For the survival analysis we used the Cox proportional hazards model, and we calculated crude and adjusted hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results: We evaluated 351 patients; 74.1% of them were men. The most common comorbidities were obesity (31.6%), hypertension (27.1%) and diabetes mellitus (24.5%). The median time of hospitalization was 8 days (IQR: 4-15). From the total of patients, 32.9% died during follow-up. The multivariate analysis showed an increased risk of dying associated with the following: age ≥65 years, HR = 3.55 (95% CI: 1.70-7.40); increase in lactate dehydrogenase >720 U/L, HR = 2.08 (95% CI: 1.34-3.22); and oxygen saturation less than 90%, mainly when it was less than 80%, HR = 4.07 (95% CI: 2.10-7.88). In addition, the use of colchicine during treatment showed a protective effect, HR = 0.46 (95% CI: 0.23-0.91). Conclusions: Risk factors for mortality due to COVID-19 included being older than 65 years, having oxygen saturation less than 90%, and elevated lactate dehydrogenase >720 U/L; colchicine treatment could improve the prognosis of patients.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Describir las características demográficas, clínicas, laboratoriales y de tratamiento de pacientes hospitalizados por la COVID-19 y determinar los factores asociados a la mortalidad hospitalaria. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de cohorte retrospectivo de pacientes adultos hospitalizados por la COVID-19. Se extrajeron datos demográficos, clínicos, laboratoriales y de tratamiento de las historias clínicas de pacientes que ingresaron al Hospital III Daniel Alcides Carrión de Tacna. Para el análisis de supervivencia se empleó el modelo de riesgos proporcionales de Cox y se calcularon los cocientes de riesgo instantáneos (HR) crudos y ajustados con sus respectivos intervalos de confianza al 95% (IC 95%). Resultados: Se evaluó a 351 pacientes, el 74,1% eran hombres; las comorbilidades más comunes fueron obesidad (31,6%), hipertensión (27,1%) y diabetes mellitus (24,5%). La mediana de tiempo de hospitalización fue 8 días (RIC: 4-15). El 32,9% falleció durante el seguimiento. El análisis multivariado mostró un aumento del riesgo de morir asociado a la edad ≥65 años, HR = 3,55 (IC 95%: 1,70-7,40); al incremento de lactato deshidrogenasa >720 U/L, HR = 2,08 (IC 95%: 1,34-3,22); y a la saturación de oxígeno por debajo del 90%, principalmente cuando fue menor al 80%, HR = 4,07 (IC 95%: 2,10-7,88). Además, el uso de colchicina en el tratamiento tuvo un efecto protector, HR = 0,46 (IC 95%: 0,23-0,91). ABSTRACT We aimed to comment on the methodological differences and applications of these three types of reviews with special attention to Latin America. Among these new types of reviews we have the scoping review, umbrella review and focused mapping review synthesis. Scoping reviews identify the nature and extent of the evidence, umbrella reviews focus on the synthesis of all systematic reviews that address the same health problem, while focused mapping review syntheses are valid options when a classical mapping of the evidence is not feasible, due to addressing too many articles. As researchers in Latin America become familiar with the methodology and usefulness of these new types of review, an increase in scientific production will be observed.

RESUMEN Nuestro objetivo fue comentar las diferencias metodológicas y aplicaciones de tres nuevos tipos de revisiones con especial atención a Latinoamérica. Entre estos nuevos tipos de revisiones tenemos a las revisiones de alcance, revisiones paraguas y síntesis enfocada en revisión de mapas. Las revisiones de alcance identifican la naturaleza y extensión de la evidencia, las revisiones paraguas se centran en la síntesis de todas las revisiones sistemáticas que abordan un mismo problema de salud, mientras que las síntesis enfocadas en la revisión de mapas son opciones válidas cuando resulta inviable un mapeo clásico de la evidencia, por abordar demasiados artículos. En la medida de que los investigadores en Latinoamérica se familiaricen con la metodología y utilidad de estos nuevos tipos de revisión, se observará un incremento de la producción científica.

En la medida de que los investigadores en Latinoamérica se familiaricen con la metodología y utilidad de estos nuevos tipos de revisión, se observará un incremento de la producción científica.

Abstract Objetives: To estimate the association between having knowledge about cervical cancer (CC) and having a Pap test (PAP) in Peruvian women over 30 years old. Materials and Methods: A secondary analysis of the Demographic and Family Health Survey of the years 2015 to 2017 was carried out. The level of knowledge was evaluated using the questions, do you think that cancer can be prevented?, Have you ever heard of CC?, Have you ever heard of human papillomavirus (HPV)? And do you think HPV can cause CC? The dependent variable was the realization of a PAP in the last two years. To estimate the association, generalized linear models of the raw and adjusted Poisson family were used. The measure of association was the adjusted prevalence ratio (aPR) with its respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results: Data from 21 563 women were analyzed. The prevalence of having performed a PAP in the last two years was 52.4%. It was found that, those who responded that cancer can be prevented (aPR = 1.09; 95% CI: 1.01-1.17), who had heard of CC (aPR = 1.27; 95% CI: 1.14-1 , 40) or HPV (aPR = 1.20; 95% CI: 1.13-1.28) or who responded that HPV could cause CC (aPR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.11-1.33) had a higher prevalence of having performed a PAP in the last two years. Conclusions: Having knowledge about CC and HPV has been associated with having performed a PAP in the last two years.

Resumen Objetivos: Estimar la asociación entre tener conocimientos acerca del cáncer de cuello uterino (CaCu) y re alizarse una prueba de Papanicolaou (PAP) en mujeres peruanas mayores de 30 años. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un análisis secundario de la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar de los años 2015 al 2017. El nivel conocimiento fue evaluado utilizando las preguntas: ¿considera usted que el cáncer se puede prevenir?, ¿alguna vez ha oído hablar del CaCu?, ¿alguna vez ha oído hablar del virus del papiloma humano (VPH)? y ¿considera que el VPH puede causar CaCu? La variable dependiente fue la realización de un PAP en los dos últimos años. Para estimar la asociación se utilizaron modelos lineales generalizados de la familia Poisson crudos y ajustados. La medida de asociación fue la razón de prevalencia ajustada (RPa) con sus respectivos intervalos de confianza al 95% (IC 95%). Resultados: Se analizaron datos de 21 563 mujeres. La prevalencia de haberse realizado un PAP en los últimos dos años fue 52,4%. Se encontró que, quienes respondieron que se puede prevenir el cáncer (RPa = 1,09; IC 95%: 1,01-1,17), que habían oído hablar del CaCu (RPa = 1,27; IC 95%: 1,14-1,40) o del VPH (RPa = 1,20; IC 95%:1,13-1,28) o que respondieron que el VPH podía causar CaCu (RPa = 1,21; IC 95%: 1,11 1,33) tuvieron una mayor prevalencia de haberse realizado un PAP en los últimos dos años. Conclusiones: Tener conocimientos sobre CaCu y VPH se asoció con haberse realizado un PAP en los últimos dos años.

Abstract Objetives: To estimate the association between having knowledge about cervical cancer (CC) and having a Pap test (PAP) in Peruvian women over 30 years old. Materials and Methods: A secondary analysis of the Demographic and Family Health Survey of the years 2015 to 2017 was carried out. ABSTRACT Objectives. To identify the frequency of intention to migrate to the interior of Peru (IMIP) and assess the association between perceived stress (PS) and IMIP among physicians and nurses residing in metropolitan Lima in 2015. Materials and methods. This was a secondary analysis of data obtained from the National Survey of Satisfaction of Users in Health (Encuesta Nacional de Satisfacción de Usuarios en Salud-ENSUSALUD) in 2015. Only professionals residing in Metropolitan Lima were included for the analysis. IMIP was defined as the intention to work in a geographical region other than Lima. PS was measured using the 14-question perceived stress scale validated in Spanish. Logistic regression was used to evaluate this association; the measure of association was the odds ratio (OR) with the 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results. Data from 796 professionals were analyzed, 54.8% of whom were nurses. The average age was 45.2 years; 4.9% (37) of the participants had IMIP, 64.9% (24) of whom were nurses. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated an association between higher PS and IMIP (OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.07-1.60). Conclusions. The IMIP was reported by one of every 20 professionals and was associated with higher PS in the study group.

RESUMEN Objetivos. Identificar la frecuencia de intención de migrar al interior del país y valorar la asociación entre el estrés percibido (EP) y la intención de migrar al interior del país (IMIP) en médicos y enfermeros que residían en Lima Metropolitana durante el 2015. Materiales y métodos. Análisis secundario de datos, empleando la Encuesta Nacional de Satisfacción de Usuarios en Salud (ENSUSALUD) del año 2015. Se incluyeron únicamente a aquellos profesionales que residían en Lima Metropolitana. Se definió como IMIP a aquellos que manifestaron su intención de trabajar en algún departamento diferente de Lima. Para medir el EP se empleó la Perceived stress scale de 14 preguntas, validada en español. Se empleó regresión logística para valorar la asociación planteada. La medida de asociación reportada fue el odds ratio (OR), con su intervalo de confianza al 95% (IC95%). Resultados. Se analizaron datos de 796 profesionales, de los cuales el 54,8% fueron enfermeros. La edad promedio fue de 45,2 años. El 4,9% (37) de los participantes tuvieron IMIP, de los cuales, el 64,9% (24) fueron enfermeros. En el análisis de regresión logística multivariado, se encontró asociación entre una mayor percepción de estrés con la IMIP (OR=1,31; IC95%:1,07-1,60). Conclusiones. La IMIP se presentó en uno de cada 20 profesionales y se asoció a un mayor EP en el personal de la salud estudiado.
