ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate the immediate impact on the voice of gospel singers with and without vocal complaints after a one-hour individual presentation. Methods Application of an online questionnaire that addressed the following aspects: 1 - Sociodemographic data; 2 – Self-assessment of the ability to sing using the Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily (EASE-BR) protocol; 3 - Self-assessment of vocal fatigue symptoms using the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI) protocol; and 4 - Self-assessment of voice handicap using the Voice Handicap Index 10 (VHI-10) protocol. Participants were divided into two groups: Group with Vocal Complaint (WVC) and Group with no Vocal Complaint (WnVC) based on the total score of the IDV-10. Data underwent descriptive and inferential statistical analysis with a significance level of 5%. Results The study included 43 gospel singers with a median age of 34 years: 32 were in the WnVC group and 11 were in the WVC group. The WVC group reported hoarseness and experienced more difficulty while singing in the EASE, resulting in higher scores in both the VHI-10 and VFI protocols. A positive correlation was observed between singing difficulty and vocal handicap due to fatigue in amateur gospel singers, with this correlation being stronger within the WnVC group. Conclusion After one hour of performance, singers with vocal complaints exhibited higher rates of vocal fatigue, vocal disadvantage, and greater difficulty in singing. Singers without complaints may have their ability to sing impaired by vocal fatigue. Variations in singing ability and vocal handicaps in amateur gospel singers may be directly related to vocal fatigue.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar o impacto imediato na voz de cantores gospel com e sem queixa vocal após uma apresentação individual de uma hora. Método Aplicação de um questionário online que abordou os seguintes aspectos: 1 - Dados sociodemográficos; 2 – Autoavaliação da habilidade de cantar pelo protocolo Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily (EASE-BR); 3 - Autoavaliação de sintomas de fadiga vocal pelo Índice de Fadiga Vocal (IFV); e 4 - Autoavaliação da desvantagem vocal pelo protocolo Índice de Desvantagem Vocal 10 (IDV-10). Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos: Grupo Com Queixa (CQ) e Grupo Sem Queixa (SQ) com base no escore total do IDV-10. Os dados passaram por análise estatística descritiva e inferencial considerando o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Participaram 43 cantores gospel com idade mediana de 34 anos, divididos entre 32 do grupo SQ e 11 do grupo CQ. O grupo CQ autorrelatou rouquidão e maior dificuldade ao cantar no EASE e maiores escores nos protocolos IDV-10 e IFV. Foi evidenciada correlação positiva entre a dificuldade ao cantar e a desvantagem vocal com a fadiga de cantores amadores gospel, sendo que essa correlação foi maior para o grupo SQ. Conclusão Cantores com queixa vocal apresentaram maiores índices de fadiga vocal, desvantagem vocal e maior dificuldade para cantar após uma hora de apresentação. Cantores sem queixa podem ter a habilidade de cantar prejudicada pela fadiga vocal. Variações na habilidade ao cantar e desvantagens vocais de cantores amadores gospel podem ter relação direta com a fadiga vocal.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the perception of choristers who perform online rehearsals about symptoms, vocal disadvantages, adaptations in the singing routine and difficulties in rehearsals during social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Method Application of an online questionnaire investigating perceptions about the voice and singing routine and rehearsal of 141 choristers who did not have COVID-19 disease and continued in remote activity until April 2021. Participants were divided in two groups according to the age: G1 (18 to 54 years old) and G2 (55 years old or more). The data underwent descriptive and inferential analysis, considering a significance level of 5%. Results During distancing, both groups reported a decrease in singing time and felt more difficult to sing alone. Choir singers reported fewer throat infections during this period. Choir singers from G1 noticed a huskier voice, reported difficulty concentrating via videoconferencing, felt nervous to singing alone in virtual rehearsals and stressed recording the same song several times. G2 choristers reported more physical vocal symptoms such as: tired voice, varying throughout the day, and a weaker and more breathy voice. Conclusion In social distancing, the choristers found it more difficult to sing by videoconference and had reduced singing practice time. Younger choir singers reported more emotional symptoms and older choir singers reported more vocal symptoms.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a percepção de coristas que realizam ensaios virtuais, quanto a sintomas, desvantagens vocais, adaptações na rotina de canto e dificuldades nos ensaios durante o distanciamento social devido a pandemia do COVID-19. Método Aplicação de questionário online investigando percepções sobre a voz e rotina de canto e ensaio de 141 coristas que não tiveram a doença do COVID-19 e continuaram em atividade remota até abril de 2021. Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos de acordo com a faixa etária: G1 (18 a 54 anos) e G2 (55 anos ou mais). Os dados passaram por análise descritiva e inferencial, considerando-se nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Durante o distanciamento, ambos os grupos referiram diminuição do tempo de canto e acharam mais difícil cantar sozinhos. Os coristas referiram menor número de infecções de garganta nesse período. Coristas do G1 perceberam voz mais rouca, relataram dificuldade para se concentrar por videoconferência, sentiam-se nervosos ao cantarem sozinhos nos ensaios virtuais e estressados gravando várias vezes a mesma música. Coristas do G2 referiram mais sintomas vocais como: voz cansada, variando ao longo do dia, voz fraca e com mais ar. Conclusão No distanciamento social, os coristas acharam mais difícil cantar por videoconferência e tiveram o tempo de prática de canto diminuído. Coristas mais jovens referiram mais sintomas emocionais e coristas com mais idade relataram mais sintomas vocais.

RESUMO Objetivo O objetivo do estudo foi investigar o conhecimento de pastores religiosos sobre aspectos de saúde e higiene vocal e avaliar a quantidade de fala e a intensidade da voz autorrelatadas, tanto nas atividades de uso laboral, quanto extralaboral, para se compreender a possibilidade de risco vocal nestes profissionais. Método Foram avaliados 50 pastores, do gênero masculino, com idade entre 22 e 73 anos. Após o preenchimento do Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido, todos responderam a dois questionários de autoavaliação vocal, a saber: Questionário de Saúde e Higiene Vocal e Quantidade de Fala e Intensidade Vocal. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise estatística. Resultados Os pastores apresentaram escores satisfatórios no Questionário de Saúde e Higiene Vocal, porém a quantidade de fala e a intensidade vocal mostraram-se elevadas na situação laboral, quando comparadas à extralaboral. As variáveis tempo de carreira pastoral, quantidade de fala e intensidade de voz extralaborais também estiveram associadas ao conhecimento sobre saúde e higiene vocal. Conclusão Os pastores mostraram bom conhecimento sobre saúde e higiene vocal e podem ser considerados como uma população de elevado risco vocal devido ao uso de grande quantidade de fala e intensidade da voz no ambiente laboral.

ABSTRACT Purpose The objective of this study was to investigate the knowledge of preachers about aspects of vocal health and hygiene and evaluate talkativeness and vocal loudness self-perceived during labor and extra-labor situations aiming to understand the possibility of vocal risk in these professionals. Methods Fifty male preachers aged 22 to 73 years were evaluated. They responded to two self-assessment questionnaires on vocal health and hygiene and talkativeness and vocal loudness. The results were submitted to statistical analysis. Results The preachers presented satisfactory scores in the Vocal Health and Hygiene Questionnaire; however, their scores in the Scale of Vocal Loudness and Talkativeness were lower in the labor situation compared with the extra-labor situations. The variables length of professional experience as a preacher and extra-labor talkativeness and vocal loudness were also associated with knowledge about vocal health and hygiene. Conclusion Preachers show good knowledge about vocal health and hygiene but are at high risk of vocal disorders due to excessive use of talkativeness and vocal loudness in the work environment.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar as características fonológicas de crianças com hipotireoidismo congênito (HC). Método Estudo observacional, analítico, transversal e ambispectivo que incluiu crianças pré-púberes com HC (n = 100, Grupo de Estudo, GE) e um grupo controle de crianças pré-púberes sem HC (n = 100, Grupo Controle, GC). As avaliações incluíram uma entrevista fonoaudiológica, avaliação fonológica por meio do teste de linguagem infantil ABFW, e coleta de dados nos prontuários referentes às avaliações médicas e testes neuropsicológicos realizados nos três primeiros anos de vida. Resultados Quanto ao início do tratamento no GE, a idade cronológica mediana dos participantes foi de 18,0 dias e 48,4% apresentaram T4 total <2,5 μg / dL (31,75 nmol / L). Na comparação da avaliação fonológica por idade, aos 7 anos as crianças no GE tiveram maior ocorrência de simplificação de encontros consonantais e menor ocorrência de sistema fonológico completo quando comparadas às crianças do GC. Na análise de grupos etários combinados (4 + 5 e 6 + 7 anos), observou-se que o GC teve aquisição completa do sistema fonológico mais precocemente. Na análise multivariada, agenesia da tireoide, resultados alterados nos testes Clinical Linguistic and Auditory Milestone Scale (CLAMS) e Developmental Quotient Tests (CDC) foram associados à ocorrência de desvios fonológicos. Conclusão Crianças com HC apresentam atraso na aquisição fonológica, mesmo com diagnóstico precoce e tratamento adequado, especialmente entre as idades de 6-7 anos. A etiologia do HC, bem como os resultados obtidos nos testes neuropsicológicos nos primeiros anos de vida, parecem ter relação com este atraso.

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the phonological characteristics of children with congenital hypothyroidism (CH). Methods Observational, analytical, cross-sectional, ambispective study including prepubertal children with CH (n=100; study group, SG) and controls without CH ( n=100; control group, CG). Assessments included a speech language pathology interview, the phonological evaluation of the ABFW Child Language Test, medical data, and neuropsychological tests in the first three years of life. Results On treatment onset of the SG, the median chronological age of the participants was 18.0 days and 48.4% had total T4 <2.5 µg/dL (31.75 nmol/L). At the age of 7 years, children in the SG had higher rates of consonant cluster simplification and lower rates of complete phonological system compared to those in the CG. On analysis of combined age groups (4+5 and 6+7 years), the CG had a higher frequency of complete acquisition versus the SG. On multivariate analysis, thyroid agenesis, abnormal scores on the Clinical Linguistic and Auditory Milestone Scale and developmental quotient tests were associated with the occurrence of phonological disorders. Conclusion Children with CH present delay in phonological acquisition, despite early diagnosis and adequate treatment, especially between the ages of 6–7 years. The etiology of CH and the results of neuropsychological tests in the first years of life seem to be related to this delay.

O Hipotireoidismo Congênito (HC) é a doença endócrina congênita mais comum na infância e corresponde à deficiência de hormônios tireoidianos. Este artigo teve o objetivo de realizar uma revisão crítica da literatura, a respeito das possíveis alterações fonoaudiológicas relacionadas ao HC. Os descritores utilizados para a busca nas bases de dados eletrônicas PUBMED e MEDLINE foram: hypothyroidism OR congenital hypothyroidism AND voice OR hearing OR language. Foram incluídos estudos publicados até julho de 2011. As análises foram realizadas independentemente por dois dos pesquisadores, com posterior discussão e consenso sobre a inclusão. Dos 324 estudos localizados na análise inicial, apenas 20 compuseram a amostra final após o estabelecimento dos critérios de inclusão. Observou-se que há um número considerável de artigos sobre a linguagem de crianças com HC, embora com controvérsias no que se refere aos resultados das avaliações. Quanto à Audiologia, nos últimos anos houve uma redução no número de artigos que descrevem alterações auditivas em crianças com HC. Na área de Voz, foram localizados apenas dois artigos, que se referiram exclusivamente às anormalidades observadas no choro de bebês com HC. Embora com algumas constatações relevantes a respeito do assunto, a grande variabilidade metodológica das pesquisas não permite que se tenha uma conclusão clara sobre as possíveis alterações fonoaudiológicas em crianças portadoras de hipotireoidismo congênito na atualidade.

OBJETIVO: relacionar o Índice de Sintomas do Refluxo Faringo-Laríngeo - ISRFL com os principais sintomas do refluxo gastresofágico - RGE (azia/queimação e dor retroesternal), com o nível de uso da voz e com uma triagem vocal. MÉTODO: participaram deste estudo 179 voluntários maiores de 18 anos, 107 mulheres e 72 homens, classificados em dois grupos de acordo com o escore total do ISRFL, grupo positivo (escore total igual ou maior a 13 pontos) e negativo (abaixo deste). Os participantes foram questionados sobre a presença dos sinais característicos do refluxo gastresofágico (azia/queimação e/ou dor retroesternal), sobre a demanda de uso da voz (baixa/alta demanda) e submetidos à triagem vocal durante a entrevista. RESULTADOS: quanto ao ISRFL, 35 (19,6%) indivíduos compuseram o grupo positivo (escore médio de 20) e 144 (80,4%) o grupo negativo (média de 4,34 pontos). Os sintomas característicos do RGE foram maiores no grupo positivo: azia/queimação em 54,2% (19) verso 30,5% (44), dor retroesternal em 51,4% (18) verso 20,1% (29), sendo que 74,3% dos indivíduos do grupo positivo e apenas 43,1% do negativo apresentaram algum dos sintomas. Quanto à triagem vocal, 37,1% do grupo positivo e 13% do negativo falharam. Não houve diferença de demanda vocal auto-relatada entre os grupos. Foi encontrada associação estatística entre IRFL positivo, os sintomas de refluxo gastresofágico e fracasso na triagem vocal (p< 0,001). Não houve associação quanto ao uso da voz. CONCLUSÃO: o ISRFL positivo pode estar relacionado com os sinais do RGE e com a alteração na qualidade vocal percebida em triagem.

PURPOSE: to determine the relation between Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Symptoms Index (LPRSI) and the main symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - heartburn and retroesternal pain - voice usage level and voice screening. METHOD: there were 179 volunteers, older than 18 years old, 107 females and 72 males divided into two groups according to the LPRSI total score: positive group (total score equals or greater than 13) and the negative group (below 13). Participants answered questions about the presence of typical GERD signs (heartburn and/or retroesternal pain), the voice usage level (high or low demand) and submitted to voice screening during the interview. RESULTS: for LPRSI, 35 (19.6%) subjects made up the positive group (average score of 20) and 144 (80.4%) subjects made up the negative group (average score of 4.34). The typical GER symptoms were greater in the positive group: heartburn in 54.2% (19) versus 30.5% (44), retroesternal pain in 51.4% (18) versus 20.1% (29), and 74.3% of the subjects in the positive group and only 43.1% of those in the negative group showed one of the symptoms. For voice screening, 37.1% of the positive group and only 13% of the negative one failed it. There was no difference in voice demand related by any volunteer in neither groups. Statistical relation was found between positive LPRSI, GERD symptoms and voice screening failure (p<0.0001). No relation to voice usage was found. CONCLUSION: a positive LPRSI may be related to signs of GERD and to altered voice quality noticed during the screening.

TEMA: variabilidade de qualidade e frequência da voz de adolescentes, durante a puberdade, em diferentes tarefas fonatórias. OBJETIVO: analisar, por meio da avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, a estabilidade vocal de adolescentes em três diferentes tarefas fonatórias. MÉTODO: foram sujeitos do estudo 46 adolescentes do sexo masculino, com idade entre 13 e 15 anos, estudantes de uma escola estadual da cidade de Campinas - SP, onde foi realizada a coleta dos dados. As vozes foram gravadas em gravador digital, solicitou-se emissão sustentada da vogal /a/, contagem de 1 a 10 e leitura de parágrafo de um livro pré-estabelecido. A avaliação perceptivo-auditiva da estabilidade vocal foi realizada por três fonoaudiólogas especialistas em voz. Para vozes consideradas instáveis, utilizou-se uma Escala Visual Analógica de 10cm para marcação do grau de instabilidade, em que 0 significava estabilidade e 10 instabilidade máxima, podendo variar de 0 a 10. RESULTADOS: na emissão da vogal sustentada 78,3% (n = 36) dos adolescentes apresentaram instabilidade vocal, em graus que variaram de 1 a 9. Apenas um adolescente apresentou voz instável, classificada como grau 1, durante a contagem de números e todos apresentaram voz estável durante a leitura. A ocorrência de estabilidade variou significativamente de acordo com a tarefa fonatória, havendo maior instabilidade na emissão de vogal sustentada (p < 0,0001; g.l = 2). CONCLUSÃO: as tarefas fonatórias de contagem de números e leitura não permitem inferir sobre a presença de instabilidade na emissão, o que deve ser avaliado na vogal sustentada.

BACKGROUND: quality and frequency variability of adolescents' voice, during puberty, in different phonation tasks. AIM: to analyze the vocal stability of adolescents in three different phonation tasks using a voice perceptual analysis. METHOD: participants were male students (n = 46 individuals), ranging in age from 13 to 15 years, from a public school in Campinas - SP. Voice samples were recorded using a digital recorder in three different tasks: speaking a sustained vowel /a/, counting from one to ten, and reading. Three voice specialists evaluated stability by means of voice perceptual analysis. For the voice samples that were considered unstable, the Analogical Visual Scale (AVS) of 10cm was used to estimate the instability level, where zero means absence of instability and ten refers to maximum instability. RESULTS: 78.3% of the adolescents presented vocal instability when speaking the sustained vowel, varying from one to nine in the AVS. Only one adolescent presented unstable voice when counting numbers (level = 1). Vocal instability was not observed during reading for any of the participants. Vocal stability varied significantly among phonation tasks and adolescents showed greater instability during the sustained vowel (p<0,0001; g.l = 2). CONCLUSION: counting numbers and reading do not detect vocal instability; the production of a sustained vowel demonstrated to be a better task.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar a constância de medidas acústicas da frequência fundamental, jitter em porcentagem, quociente de perturbação de frequência (QPF), shimmer em dB, shimmer em porcentagem, quociente de perturbação de amplitude (QPA) e proporção harmônico-ruído (PHR), extraídas de emissões sustentadas e consecutivas de uma mesma vogal, em mulheres sem queixa vocal e em mulheres com disfonia. MÉTODOS: Foram analisados os parâmetros acústicos selecionados em três grupos: 20 mulheres sem queixa vocal, 20 com disfonia e nódulo vocal e dez com disfonia e edema de Reinke, utilizando o programa Multi-Speech Model 3700 da Kay Elemetrics®; utilizou-se a vogal sustentada "é", emitida 15 vezes consecutivas. RESULTADOS: Os valores de frequência fundamental apresentaram variações estatisticamente significantes até a 6ª emissão nos grupos sem queixa vocal e com disfonia e nódulo vocal. Os valores de jitter, QPF, shimmer em dB, shimmer em porcentagem, QPA e PHR não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes nos três grupos estudados, nas consecutivas emissões. CONCLUSÕES: As medidas dos sinais acústicos, em diferentes emissões consecutivas de uma mesma vogal sustentada são constantes, à exceção da frequência fundamental que pode se deslocar para o agudo nas primeiras emissões de indivíduos sem lesões laríngeas e queixas vocais e com disfonia e nódulos de pregas vocais.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the constancy of the acoustic measures fundamental frequency, percentage jitter, frequency perturbation quotient (FPQ), shimmer (dB), percentage shimmer, amplitude perturbation quotient (APQ), and harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR), obtained from consecutive phonations of a sustained vowel, in women without vocal complaint and women with dysphonia. METHODS: The selected acoustic parameters were assessed in three different groups: 20 women without vocal complaint, 20 women with dysphonia and vocal nodules, and ten women with dysphonia and Reinke's edema. The acoustic analysis was carried out using the Multi-Speech Model 3700 computer program, from Kay Elemetrics®. Recordings were made of a sustained /ε/ vowel, produced 15 consecutive times. RESULTS: The values of fundamental frequency showed statistically significant variability up to the 6th token for the group without vocal complaint and for the group with dysphonia and vocal nodules. Values of jitter, FPQ, shimmer (dB), percentage shimmer, APQ and HNR didn't show significant differences in any of the groups. CONCLUSIONS: Acoustic measures of different consecutive phonations of the same sustained vowel are constant, except for fundamental frequency, which can increase during the first phonations of individuals without vocal complaint and subjects with dysphonia and vocal nodules.

OBJETIVO: traçar o perfil vocal de regentes de corais do Estado de São Paulo. MÉTODOS: participaram deste estudo 150 regentes de corais do Estado de São Paulo. A coleta foi feita individualmente pelo mesmo avaliador, nos locais de trabalho dos entrevistados, através de questionário fechado. RESULTADOS: os regentes tem em média 8,4 anos de exercício da profissão, regem 1 coral e já fizeram de 1 a 5 anos de aula de canto. Ensaiam os naipes em separado, cantam junto com os naipes, fazem aquecimento e não fazem desaquecimento vocal. Para a afinação do coral, usam piano e/ou a própria voz. A maior parte considera a voz falada igual a cantada e ambas eficientes, há concordância no que se refere ao dom e a técnica como componentes necessários a uma boa voz cantada. Com os anos de exercício de regência, a tessitura vocal está mais ampla, a qualidade mais estável, a passagem mais controlada e a intensidade no pianíssimo e no fortíssimo permaneceram inalteradas. As queixas vocais mais apontadas foram: pigarro, rouquidão, garganta seca, acúmulo de secreção na garganta, cansaço após fala, cansaço após canto e tensão na garganta. A maior parte dos regentes apresenta até 3 sintomas vocais, não fumam, não bebem, não costumam gritar, não pigarreiam, falam muito e comem tarde da noite. CONCLUSÃO: houve associação de sintomas vocais com piora e/ou restrição de diversos parâmetros específicos da voz cantada. O parâmetro que mais se alterou frente aos sintomas vocais foi a qualidade vocal.

PURPOSE: to draw the vocal profile of choir conductors in the State of São Paulo. METHODS: one hundred fifty choirs conductors in the State of São Paulo took part in this study. Data collection was carried out by the same researcher, at the working places of the subjects by means of closed survey. RESULTS: the conductor’s average performance of the activity is 8.4 years. They conduct different sections at different times, they sing together with the sections, do warming up but do not do cooling downs. For choir tune up they use the piano and/or their own voice. Most of them consider spoken voice similar to sung voices and both are efficient. There is agreement concerning talent and technique as necessary components for a good sung voice. After having been conductors for years, the vocal range is broader, the vocal quality is more stable and passage more controlled. The intensity at pianissimo and fortissimo remains unaltered. The vocal complains that are most observed were hawks, hoarseness, dry throat, excess of secretion in the throat, fatigue after singing and tension in the throat. Most conductors complained about up to three vocal symptoms, do not smoke, do not drink, do not usually scream, do not hawk, speak a lot and eat late at night. CONCLUSION: vocal symptoms were associated with worsening and/or restriction of several specific parameters of singing voice. The most altered parameter among the symptoms was the vocal quality.

O uso prolongado da levodopa na doença de Parkinson (DP) pode ocasionar alterações em seu rendimento e possibilitou o interesse no ressurgimento da palidotomia. Contudo, complicações pós-operatórias podem ocorrer. OBJETIVO: O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar alguns parâmetros acústicos da voz de pacientes com DP pré e pós a realização da palidotomia posteroventral METODO: foram avaliados 12 pacientes com PD submetidos a avaliação neurológica e da voz durante as fases off e on do uso da levodopa, nos momentos pré-operatório, no primeiro e no terceiro mês pós-operatório. Os pacientes foram avaliados com base na escala UPDRS - item motor - e por meio dos parâmetros acústicos da voz - f0, NHR, jitter, PPQ, Shimmer, APQ (usando o software MDVP - Kay Elemetrics - 3700). RESULTADOS: Na fase off o escore UPDRS revelou tendência de melhora no 1º pós-operatório e na fase on piora. Os parâmetros acústicos shimmer e APQ apresentaram melhora. CONCLUSÃO: Este estudo mostrou que a palidotomia resulta em discreta melhora no uso funcional da comunicação dos pacientes com DP.

Long-term complications in levodopa treated Parkinson's disease (PD) patients caused a resurgence of interest in pallidotomy as an option of treatment. However, postoperative complications such as speech disorders can occur. PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the acoustic voice in PD patients, before and after posteroventral pallidotomy. METHOD: Twelve patients with PD were submitted to neurological and voice assessments during the off and on phases, in the pre-operative, 1st and 3rd post-operative months. The patients were evaluated with the UPDRS and the vocal acoustic parameters - f0, NHR, jitter, PPQ, Shimmer, APQ (using the software MultiSpeech - Kay Elemetrics - 3700). RESULTS: The off phase UPDRS scores revealed a tendency to improvement at the 1st month and the off phase worsened. The shimmer and APQ improved. CONCLUSION: This study shows that pallidotomy has little improvement on functional use of communication of PD patients.

A paralisia cerebral é doença que pode cursar com distúrbios da deglutição (disfagias orofaríngeas). O objetivo deste artigo foi caracterizar e comparar a deglutição em 32 crianças com esta doença, pela avaliação clínica fonoaudiológica e videofluoroscópica, com ênfase na aspiração traqueal, Os resultados mostraram importante comprometimento da fase oral. Na fase faríngea a aspiração, a incompetência velofaríngea e o resíduo em recessos faríngeos, foram os achados mais encontrados. A aspiração foi encontrada mais frequentemente com líquidos, antes e durante a deglutição. Na avaliação clínica e na videofluoroscopia, a hiperextensão cervical foi a anormalidade postural mais encontrada. A videofluoroscopia confirmou a presença de aspiração na maioria dos casos que apresentaram sinais sugestivos de aspiração na avaliação clínica da deglutição. Concluímos que a avaliação clínica e a videofluoroscópica são complementares na avaliação da deglutição; juntas podem indicar a conduta mais adequada na reabilitação.

Cerebral palsy is a condition that may be associated with swallowing disorders, that is, oropharingeal dysphagia. The aim of this study was to characterize and compare the swallowing processes of 32 children with this condition, by clinical and videofluoroscopic evaluation, with special focus on tracheal aspiration detectability. Results show an important compromise of oral phase. The most important findings during the pharyngeal phase were velopharingeal incompetence and residuals on the pharyngeal recesses. Aspiration was more common with liquids, before and after deglutition. On clinical and videofluoroscopic evaluation, cervical hyperextension was the commonest postural abnormality. Videofluoroscopy confirmed the occurrence of aspiration on most of the cases that presented suggestive signs of aspiration during clinical evaluation. We conclude that clinical and videofluoroscopic evaluations are complementary on deglutition evaluation and together may point to the most specific rehabilitation procedure.
