Abstract The South American siluriform fishes are found primarily in the Neotropical region, north and east of the Colorado River of Argentina, with a few relict species distributed southward and westward on both sides of the Andes Mountains. Three of these, the closely related trichomycterids Hatcheria macraei, Trichomycterus areolatus and Bullockia maldonadoi, have been subject to historical taxonomic and nomenclatural arrangements. Here, we amplify a 652-bp fragment of COI mtDNA from 55 H. macraei individuals and use publicly available Cytb mtDNA sequences of the three taxa to assess their relationship, genetic variation and haplotype distribution in relation to hydrographic basins. In addition, we extend a recent morphometric study on H. macraei by analyzing body shape in 447 individuals collected from 24 populations across their entire cis-Andean distribution. We identified some lineages previously assigned to T. areolatus that show a closer relationship to either B. maldonadoi or H. macraei, revealing new boundaries to their currently known trans-Andean distribution. We found a great morphologic variation among H. macraei populations and a high genetic variation in H. macraei, T. areolatus and B. maldonadoi associated with river basins. We highlight further integrative studies are needed to enhance our knowledge of the southern Andean trichomycterid diversity.

Abstract Introduction Consumption of substances has been associated with cognitive impairment. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) is an easy-to-apply screening tool used to assess cognitive functions. Objectives To evaluate the cognitive performance of individuals with alcohol (AUD) and/or crack cocaine use disorder (CUD) and polysubstance use using the MMSE and to investigate the impact of substance use profile and the moderation effect of educational level on MMSE performance. Methods Cross-sectional study with 508 adult male inpatients diagnosed with substance use disorders (245 with AUD, 85 with CUD, and 178 with polysubstance use). Cognitive performance was assessed using the MMSE scale (total and composite scores). Results Individuals with AUD had worse total MMSE scores and scored worse for all three MMSE components compared to individuals with polysubstance use (p < 0.001, oral/written language comprehension, p < 0.001, attention/memory, and p = 0.007, motor functions). MMSE scores were positively correlated with educational level (p < 0.017), but were not associated with age, recent drug use, or years of drug use. Educational level moderated the impact of substance use on MMSE performance, especially total score and composite language comprehension score. Individuals with a low educational level (≤ 8 years) had worse performance than those with a high educational level (≥ 9 years), mainly in individuals with AUD (p < 0.001). Discussion Individuals with a low educational level and alcohol use are more prone to present cognitive impairment than crack cocaine users, especially involving language aspects. Better-preserved cognitive function could impact treatment adherence and might guide the decision of therapeutic strategies.

BACKGROUND: The human immunodeficiency virus type-2 (HIV-2) prevalence in South Africa (SA) is unknown, however, sporadic cases have been reported. Human immunodeficiency virus -1 and 2 differentiation is not part of most South African public laboratories' testing algorithm. Human immunodeficiency virus -2 diagnosis using serology assays may be complicated by HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibody cross-reactivity. OBJECTIVES: To determine the proportion of HIV-2 infections in specimens that tested HIV-1/2 positive at a public laboratory in Tshwane. METHOD: A total of 480 specimens that were previously tested with fourth generation ELISA platforms (Modular E170 [Roche, Switzerland] and Architect i2000 [Abbott, Germany]) were randomly selected. Human immunodeficiency virus -1 and 2 antibody differentiation testing was carried out using the Multispot HIV-1/2 rapid assay (Bio-Rad Laboratories, USA). An in-house nested HIV-2 PCR assay targeting the 5′-long terminal repeats (5′-LTR) region was evaluated and used as a confirmatory test RESULTS: The study tested 480 HIV-1/2 seropositive patients and their mean age was 36.7 years (range 3-82 years). Of the 480 patients, 292 (60.8%) were female, 182 (37.9%) were male and 6 (1.3%) were not specified. Human immunodeficiency virus differentiation results were as follows: 466 (97.1%) were positive for only HIV-1 antibodies, 11 (2.3%) [95%CI: (0.98%; 3.74%)] were positive for both HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies, 3 (0.6%) were negative for both antibodies and none were positive for only HIV-2 antibodies. Of the 11 specimens with both HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies, seven had sufficient volume for confirmatory testing and were all negative on the in-house HIV-2 PCR assay. CONCLUSION: The multispot HIV-1/2 rapid assay demonstrated cross-reactivity between HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies. Human immunodeficiency virus -2 infections were not detected.

RESUMO Objetivo A Evidence-based Practice Knowledge Assessment in Nursing (EKAN) é uma medida objetiva do conhecimento sobre prática baseada em evidência (PBE). Os objetivos do projeto foram traduzir a EKAN para o português do Brasil, testar suas propriedades psicométricas e documentar avaliação de linha de base do conhecimento de estudantes sobre a PBE. Método A EKAN–Versão Brasileira foi aplicada a estudantes de dois programas de bacharelado em enfermagem e os dados foram submetidos a análise de Rasch. Resultados Participaram 123 estudantes (87%-idades entre 19-25 anos; 60%-primeiro ano; 38% sem exposição prévia a conteúdo de PBE). Índices de validade: dificuldade média = -2,48 a 2,07; Infit (WMS) médio = 0,985 (DP = 2,13); Outfit (UMS) médio = 0,975 (DP = 0,17). Índices de confiabilidade mostraram índice de separação suficiente (4,47); de separação de pessoa moderado (0,47); alta confiabilidade dos itens (0,95); baixa confiabilidade de pessoas (0,18). O escore médio na EKAN (máximo = 20) foi 7,6 (DP = 2,13). Conclusão Esse estudo produziu evidências de validade e confiabilidade da EKAN-Versão Brasileira; a confiabilidade de pessoas mostrou a necessidade de incorporar conceitos e conteúdos sobre a PBE nos programas de enfermagem.

ABSTRACT Objective The Evidence-based Practice Knowledge Assessment in Nursing (EKAN) is an objective measure of evidence-based practice (EBP) knowledge. The aims of the project were to translate the EKAN instrument into Brazilian Portuguese, test its psychometric properties, and document a baseline assessment of students’ EBP knowledge. Method This study used methodological design. The EKAN-Brazilian Portuguese was administered to nursing students from two baccalaureate programs. Data were analyzed using Rasch procedures. Results 123 students participated (87% ranged 19-25 years old; 60% were juniors; 38% perceived having no exposure to EBP). Validity indices showed the mean difficulty index = -2.48 to 2.07, the Infit (WMS) mean was.985 (SD = 2.13), and the Outfit (UMS) mean was.975 (SD = 0.17). Reliability indices showed sufficient item separation index (4.47); moderate person separation index (.47); high item reliability (.95); and low person reliability (.18). The mean EKAN sum score (max = 20) was 7.6 (SD = 2.13). Conclusion This study on the EKAN-Brazilian Portuguese version provided sufficient evidence for validity and reliability; the person reliabilities showed the need for improvement in incorporating EBP concepts and content in nursing programs.

Índices de validez: dificultad promedio = -2,48 a 2,07; Infit (WMS) promedio = 0,985 (SD = 2,13); Outfit (UMS) promedio = 0,975 (SD = 0,17). Los índices de confiabilidad mostraron índice de separación suficiente (4,47); de separación de persona moderado (0,47); alta confiabilidad de ítems (0,95); baja confiabilidad de personas (0,18). El puntaje promedio en la EKAN (máximo = 20) fue 7,6 (SD = 2,13). Conclusión El estudio produjo evidencias de validez y confiabilidad de la EKAN-Versión Brasileña; la confiabilidad de personas mostró necesidad de incorporar conceptos y contenidos sobre PBE en los programas de enfermería.

RESUMO CONTEXTO: O papel de infecção por Helicobacter pylori no infiltrado eosinofílico duodenal ainda é pouco compreendido. Um aumento no número de eosinófilos duodenais tem sido associado a dispepsia funcional. OBJETIVO: Avaliar a influência do H. pylori na contagem de eosinófilos duodenais e o papel do infiltrado eosinofílico duodenal na dispepsia funcional. MÉTODOS: Indivíduos H. pylori positivo e negativo foram incluídos. Ambos os grupos, compreendendo dispépticos funcionais pelos critérios de Roma III (casos) e indivíduos sem sintomas gastrointestinais (controles), foram submetidos à endoscopia digestiva alta para pesquisa de H. pylori, efetuada por histopatologia e teste de urease. Eosinófilos na mucosa duodenal foram contabilizados em cinco campos de maior aumento, selecionados randomicamente nas lâminas de biópsia endoscópicas. RESULTADOS: Trinta e nove indivíduos H. pylori positivo (média de idade 40,5 e 69,2% mulheres) e 24 H. pylori negativos (média de idade 37,3 e 75% mulheres) foram incluídos. A influência da infecção por H. pylori foi observada na contagem de eosinófilos, que foi maior nos positivos: mediana 13,2 vs 8,1 (P=0,005). Quando analisados pacientes de acordo com sintomas, os casos (média de idade 39,6 e 71,4% mulheres) e controles (média de idade 38,7 e 71,4% mulheres), apresentaram semelhante contagem de eosinófilos duodenais: mediana 11,9 e 12,6, respectivamente (P=0,19). CONCLUSÃO: Não demonstramos associação da contagem de eosinófilos duodenais com dispepsia duodenal, mas encontramos associação com infecção por H. pylori.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The role of Helicobacter pylori infection on eosinophilic infiltration in duodenal mucosa is poorly studied. An increase in the number of eosinophils in duodenum has been associated with functional dyspepsia. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of H. pylori infection on duodenal eosinophil count and the role of eosinophilic infiltrate of duodenum in functional dyspepsia. METHODS: Positive and negative H. pylori individuals were included. Both functional dyspeptic patients according to Rome III criteria (cases) and individuals without gastrointestinal symptoms (controls) were enrolled. They were submitted to upper endoscopy and H. pylori infection was verified by gastric histopathology and urease test. Eosinophils in the duodenal mucosa were counted in five high-power fields, randomly selected on slides of endoscopic biopsies. RESULTS: Thirty-nine H. pylori positive (mean age 40.5 and 69.2% women) and 24 negative patients (mean age 37.3 and 75% women) were included. The influence of the infection was observed in the duodenal eosinophil count, which was higher in infected individuals: median 13.2 vs 8.1 in non-infected individuals (P=0.005). When we analyzed patients according to symptoms, cases - mean age 39.6; 71.4% women - and controls - mean age 38.7; 71.4% women - had similar duodenal eosinophil count: median 11.9 and 12.6 respectively (P=0.19). CONCLUSIONS: We did not demonstrate association of duodenal eosinophil count with functional dyspepsia but found association with H. pylori infection.

Abstract Citrullinemia type 1 (CTLNI), long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (LCHADD), and mut0 methylmalonic acidemia (mut0 MMA) are inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) associated with sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI). Its most common pathogenic variants are: c.1168G>A (CTLNI, ASS1 gene), c.1528G>C (LCHADD, HADHA gene), c.655A>T and c.1106G>A (mut0 MMA, MUT gene). Considering the absence of estimates regarding the incidence of these diseases in Brazil, this study sought to investigate the prevalence of its main pathogenic variants in a healthy population in the southern region of the country. A total of 1,000 healthy subjects from Rio Grande do Sul were included. Genotyping was performed by real-time PCR. Individuals found to be heterozygous for c.1528G>C underwent further acylcarnitine profile analysis by tandem mass spectrophotometry. Allele and genotype frequencies were calculated considering Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The c.1528G>C variant was detected in heterozygosity in two subjects (carrier frequency = 1:500; allele frequency = 0.001; minimum prevalence of LCHADD = 1: 1,000,000), whose acylcarnitine profiles were normal. Variants c.1168G>A, c.655A>T, and c.1106G>A were not identified. These results denote the rarity of these IEMs in Southern Brazil, highlighting the need to expand the investigation of IEMs in relation to infant morbidity and mortality within the country.

ORIENTATION: Technology-based simulation exercises are popular assessment measures for the selection and development of human resourcesRESEARCH PURPOSE: The primary goal of this study was to investigate the construct validity of an electronic in-basket exercise using computer-based simulation technology. The secondary goal of the study was to investigate how re-sampling techniques can be used to recover model parameters using small samplesMotivation for the study: Although computer-based simulations are becoming more popular in the applied context, relatively little is known about the construct validity of these measures.RESEARCH APPROACH/DESIGN AND METHOD: A quantitative ex post facto correlational design was used in the current study with a convenience sample (N = 89). The internal structure of the simulation exercise was assessed using a confirmatory factor analytical approach. In addition, bias-corrected bootstrapping and Monte Carlo simulation strategies were used to assess the confidence intervals around model parameters.MAIN FINDINGS: Support was not found for the entire model, but only for one of the dimensions, namely, the Interaction dimension. RESUMO O crescent arsenal terapêutico na esclerose múltipla (EM) tem permitido tratamentos mais efetivos e personalizados, mas a escolha e o manejo das terapias modificadoras da doença (TMDs) tem se tornado cada vez mais complexos. Neste contexto, especialistas do Comitê Brasileiro de Tratamento e Pesquisa em Esclerose Múltipla e do Departamento Científico de Neuroimunologia da Academia Brasileira de Neurologia reuniram-se para estabelecer este Consenso Brasileiro para o Tratamento da EM, baseados no entendimento de que neurologistas devem ter a possibilidade de prescrever TMDs para EM de acordo com o que é melhor para cada paciente, com base em evidências e práticas atualizadas. Por meio deste documento, propomos recomendações práticas para o tratamento da EM, com foco principal na escolha e no manejo das TMDs, e revisamos os argumentos que embasam as estratégias de tratamento na EM.

ABSTRACT The expanding therapeutic arsenal in multiple sclerosis (MS) has allowed for more effective and personalized treatment, but the choice and management of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) is becoming increasingly complex. In this context, experts from the Brazilian Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis and the Neuroimmunology Scientific Department of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology have convened to establish this Brazilian Consensus for the Treatment of MS, based on their understanding that neurologists should be able to prescribe MS DMTs according to what is better for each patient, based on up-to-date evidence and practice. We herein propose practical recommendations for the treatment of MS, with the main focus on the choice and management of DMTs, as well as present a review of the scientific rationale supporting therapeutic strategies in MS.

RESUMO: Casos de anemia hemolítica em bovinos de corte em sistema de criação extensiva em Mato Grosso e Rondônia são acompanhados desde 2008. Os animais acometidos apresentam fraqueza, mucosas pálidas ou ictéricas, urina enegrecida, depressão e anorexia. Esse quadro muitas vezes evolui para morte, principalmente quando os animais são movimentados. Durante esse período aproximadamente 429 bovinos morreram em diferentes surtos eem alguns casos a mortalidade chegou a 50%. Foi realizada investigação para as principais causas infecciosas como leptospirose, babesiose, tripanossomíase, anaplasmose e hemoglobinúria bacilar, bem como para as possíveis causas toxicas relatadas como etiologia de anemia hemolítica em bovinos por meio de exames hematológicos, bioquímica sanguínea, moleculares e histopatológicos. Não se observou nas propriedades acometidas, nenhuma das plantas já descritas no Brasil como causadora de anemia hemolítica em animais de interesse pecuário no momento das investigações dos surtos. Apesar da etiologia desses casos ainda não ser conhecida, as evidências epidemiológicas, clínicas e patológicas da doença sugerem que a mesma seja causada por uma planta tóxica de ação hemolítica, presente nas propriedades acometidas, mas que ainda não foi confirmada experimentalmente.

ABSTRACT Cases of hemolytic anemia in beef cattle in na extensive breeding system in Mato Grosso and Rondônia have been monitored since 2008. The affected animals presented weakness, pale or icteric mucosas, blackened urine, prostration and anorexia. The outcome of these cases often is death, principally if the animals are forced to walk. Approximately 429 cattle died in these outbreaks andin some of these, mortality rates ranged from 0.26 to 50%. Research was carried out on the main infectious causes such as leptospirosis, babesiosis, trypanosomiasis, anaplasmosis and bacillary hemoglobinuria, as well as the possible toxic causes reported as etiology of hemolytic anemia in cattle through hematology, blood biochemistry, molecular and histopathological examinations. Any plant ready described in Brazil as cause of hemolytic anemia in animals from livestock interest was observed in thosefarms. Although the etiology of these cases is not yet known, clinical and pathological evidences of the disease suggested that it is caused by a toxic plant of hemolytic action, present in the affected properties, but not yet confirmed experimentally.

ABSTRACT Aim To analyze the influence of the -31 C/T polymorphism of the interleukin-1β gene on Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy success in patients with functional dyspepsia. Methods Functional dyspepsia was diagnosed according to the Rome III criteria. All patients underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and gastric biopsies were obtained at screening and 12 months after randomization (last follow-up visit). Urease test and histological examination were performed to define the H. pylori status. Patients received twice-daily amoxicillin, clarithromycin and omeprazole for 10 days. Genotyping of the interleukin-1beta -31 C/T polymorphism (rs1143627) was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results One hundred forty-nine patients received treatment with triple therapy for H. pylori eradication. Only one patient was lost to follow-up, and adherence to study medication was 94.6%. A total of 148 patients (mean age 46.08 ± 12.24 years; 81.8% women) were evaluated for the influence of the interleukin-1beta -31 C/T polymorphism on the outcome of H. pylori eradication therapy. After treatment, bacteria were eradicated in 87% of patients (129/148). Genotype frequencies of the polymorphism were as follows: CC, 38/148 (25.7%); CT, 71/148 (47.9%); and TT, 39/148 (26.4%). Successful eradication rate was 78.9%, 94.4% and 82.1% for the CC, CT and TT genotypes, respectively. The CT genotype was significantly associated with successful H. pylori eradication (p= 0.039). Conclusion This study suggests that the CT genotype of the interleukin-1beta -31 C/T polymorphism plays a role in the successful eradication of H. pylori among patients with functional dyspepsia.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the efficacy of essential oils of Lippia alba (EOLA) citral chemotype and Lippia origanoides (EOLO) and their effects on ventilatory frequency (VF) of silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen. Fish were exposed to 50-300 μL L−1 of EOLA and 25-300 μL L−1 of EOLO to determine induction times to sedation, anesthesia, and recovery. Moreover, VF was determined in fish exposed to 5 or 10 μL L−1 of EOLA and of EOLO for 8 h. The increasing concentration of essential oils proportionally decreased sedation and anesthesia induction times. The highest EOLA concentration increased VF of fish from the control group at 1 h of exposure, but VF decreased at both EOLO concentrations after 2 h. The EOLA citral chemotype and EOLO were effective sedatives and anesthetics for silver catfish. However, EOLO was the most suitable sedative for additional studies regarding fish transport as it reduced VF and did not induce VF increase in silver catfish. The EOLA citral chemotype and EOLO are effective sedatives and anesthetics for silver catfish. Moreover, the EOLO is recommended for transport of silver catfish, because it maintains the ventilatory frequency constant, avoiding a possible metabolic stress.

RESUMO Contexto Recentemente, uma grande variedade de estudos tem investigado e até mesmo sugerido a presença de Helicobacter pylori como um importante fator no desenvolvimento de eventos restritos ou não ao trato gastrointestinal. A relação já bem estabelecida entre virulência bacteriana e risco aumentado para úlcera péptica ou adenocarcinoma gástrico não parece estar tão elucidada quando se comparam alterações de marcadores inflamatórios, como a proteína C-reativa, com a presença do patógeno. Objetivo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a presença da infecção por H. pylori, a virulência bacteriana e os níveis séricos de proteína C-reativa em indivíduos diagnosticados com dispepsia funcional. Métodos Foram incluídos neste estudo, prospectivamente, 489 indivíduos dispépticos. Os pacientes deveriam preencher os critérios clínicos de Roma III para o diagnóstico de dispepsia funcional sem apresentar doença orgânica evidenciada a partir da endoscopia. A infecção bacteriana foi estabelecida por histologia e pelo teste rápido da urease. Os níveis de proteína C-reativa foram quantificados através de imunonefelometria e o status para a presença da CagA dos indivíduos infectados por H. pylorifoi determinado por ensaio imunoenzimático. Resultados A taxa de prevalência de H. pylori foi de 66.3% e o fator de virulência CagA foi detectado em aproximandamente 43% das amostras positivas. Adicionalmente, denotou-se uma associação entre o consumo deIlex paraguariensis (chimarrão) e a prevalência do patógeno. Um importante efeito da infecção bacteriana na inflamação apenas foi observado localmente, no epitélio gástrico. Conclusão Não foi evidenciada resposta sistêmica ao patógeno aferido através dos níveis de proteína C-reativa, independentemente do status para CagA. Por outro lado, o consumo de chimarrão pode ser sugerido como um fator cultural possivelmente relacionado à transmissão de H. pylori.

ABSTRACT Background Recently, a great variety of studies aimed to investigate and even suggestHelicobacter pylori as an important key factor in gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal events development. The well-established relationship between bacterial virulence and increased risk for peptic ulcer or gastric carcinoma is not so clear when comparing inflammation markers alterations, such C-reactive protein, with the pathogen. Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of H. pylori, bacterial virulence and C-reactive protein serum levels in individuals diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. Methods Were prospectively included in this study 489 dyspeptic individuals. They fulfill Rome III clinical criteria for the diagnosis of functional dyspepsia with no organic disease at endoscopy. The bacterial infection was established by histology and urease rapid test. The levels of serum C-reactive protein were obtained by immunonefelometry and CagA status ofH. pylori positive individuals was determined through an imunoenzimatic assay. Results Prevalence rate of H. pylori was 66.3% and virulence factor CagA was detected in nearly 43% of positive samples. In addition, it has been noticed an association between Ilex paraguariensis(yerba maté) consumption and pathogen's prevalence. An important effect of bacterial infection on inflammation was only observed in gastric epithelium. Conclusion No systemic response to the pathogen, measured through C-reactive protein levels, was observed, regardless of CagA status. Otherwise, the intake of yerba maté should be considered as a cultural factor possibly related toH. pylori's transmission.

RESUMO Introdução: A fluoresceína intratecal tem sido efetiva no diagnóstico topográfico da rinoliquorréia. Entretanto, não há estudos no líquor após o uso de fluoresceína intratecal. Objetivo: Estudo prospectivo visando avaliar o líquor, através de análise química e citológica, após injeção de fluoresceína. Método: Análise prospectiva de 24 punções após injeção intratecal de fluoresceína para diagnóstico topográfico de fístula liquórica, coletado no momento da punção, 24 e 48 horas, divididos pela celularidade: grupo 1, com até 5 células e grupo 2 com mais de 5 células. Resultado: A coloração amarelo-esverdeada do líquor permaneceu após 48 horas em 36%, evidenciando permanência de fluoresceína. Observou-se ausência de mudanças no nível de proteína e glicose entre 0-24 horas e 0-48 horas. No grupo 2, um aumento na contagem celular foi observado entre 24 e 48 horas (p = 0,019). No dois grupos juntos, observou-se um aumento de neutrófilos entre 0 e 48 horas (p = 0,048) e uma diminuição entre 24 e 28 horas (p = 0,05). Conclusão: Fluoresceína intratecal provocou discretas reações meníngeas, como o aumento de células entre 24 e 48 horas e aumento dos dos neutrófilos em 24 horas com uma subsequente dimi nuição em 48 horas sem correlação com sintomas.

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Intrathecal fluorescein has been effective for topographic diagnosis of rhinoliquorrhea. Nonetheless, there are no reports on the study of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) after use of intrathecal fluorescein. OBJECTIVE: A prospective study attempting to evaluate CSF through chemical and cytological analysis, after injection of fluorescein. METHODS: Prospective analysis of 24 samples of CSF after intrathecal injection of fluorescein for topographic diagnosis of CSF fistulae, collected at the time of puncture and after 24 and 48 h, divided by cellularity: Group 1, up to five cells, and Group 2, with more than five cells. RESULTS: The yellow-greenish color of CSF remained after 48 h in 36%, evidencing permanence of fluorescein. No changes in protein and glucose levels were observed between 0-24 h and 0-48 h. In group 2, an increase in cell count was observed between 24 h and 48 h (p = 0.019). In both groups, there was an increase of neutrophils between 0 and 48 h (p = 0.048) and a decrease between 24 and 48 h (p = 0.05). CONCLUSION: Intrathecal fluorescein provoked discreet meningeal reactions, such as an increase of cells between 24 and 48 h and an increase of neutrophils at 24 h, with a subsequent decrease at 48 h with no correlation with symptomatology.
