RESUMO Este artigo, que parte de uma pesquisa de doutorado, apresenta e analisa as implicações de um trabalho de formação continuada em educação ambiental e educação matemática baseado nos pressupostos da pesquisa qualitativa da “Pesquisa-Ação”. A formação realizada, envolveu oito professores de matemática dos anos finais do Ensino Fundamental da rede municipal e estadual de São Sebastião do Caí, estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os procedimentos utilizados nesta formação seguiram os passos de planejamento, ação, observação e reflexão para tomada de decisões. Este artigo está fundamentado principalmente nas ideias de Carvalho (2001), Jacobi (2005), Sorrentino (2001), Castro (2001), Penteado (2010), Behrens (1996), Thiollent (1985,1998) e de acordo com os dados coletados, percebeu-se que a formação desenvolvida, deu subsídios teórico-práticos aos educadores para que realizassem práticas de sala de aula que fomentassem o desenvolvimento da consciência ambiental dos envolvidos no processo educativo e também, por meio do desenvolvimento das atividades envolvendo temáticas ambientais nas aulas, contextualizar a matemática, aproximando-a da realidade local dos estudantes.

ABSTRACT This paper, part of a doctoral research, presents and analyses the implications of a continued formation in environmental and math education based on the assumptions of a “Research-Action” qualitative research. The formation performed involved eight math teachers from final grades of state and municipal elementary schools of São Sebastião do Caí, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The procedures used in this formation followed the steps of planning, action, observation and reflection for decision making. This paper is mainly grounded on the ideas of Carvalho (2001), Jacobi (2005), Sorrentino (2001), Castro (2001), Penteado (2010), Behrens (1996), Thiollent (1985, 1998). According to the collected data, we notice that the formation developed gave theoretical-practical subsidies for teachers to perform classroom activities promoting the development of environmental awareness within the ones involved in the educational process. And also, throughout the development of the environmental-themed activities in class, the teachers were able to contextualize math, approaching it to the local students’ reality.

Resumo O artigo analisa as edições do periódico pedagógico Unsere Schule, com ênfase no discurso matemático veiculado por meio dos textos, imagens e enunciados, suas intencionalidades e abordagens. Como o tema se insere na história da educação matemática no Rio Grande do Sul, este estudo qualitativo e documental se ampara na história cultural para análise das onze edições do periódico Unsere Schule, editado pela Igreja Luterana, em alemão, para suas escolas paroquiais, no período de agosto de 1933 a outubro de 1935. Em 1900, o Sínodo Evangélico Luterano Alemão de Missouri, hoje Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil, iniciou missão nas colônias alemãs gaúchas, fundando congregações religiosas e escolas paroquiais. Tais escolas integravam um projeto missionário e comunitário que buscava ensinar a língua materna, a matemática, valores culturais, sociais e, principalmente, religiosos. Em sua totalidade de 164 páginas, o periódico Unsere Schule traz contribuições para as escolas paroquiais luteranas gaúchas por meio de textos bíblicos, informações e artigos pedagógicos em diferentes áreas do conhecimento. O periódico Unsere Schule apresenta orientações didáticas para o ensino da matemática com emprego do método intuitivo, faz divulgação de livros de aritmética e publica artigos pedagógicos para o ensino prático da geometria e de unidades de medida.

Abstract The article analyzes the editions of Unsere Schule, a pedagogical journal, with emphasis on the mathematical discourse through texts, images and statements, their intentions and approaches. As the theme is part of the history of mathematical education in Rio Grande do Sul, this qualitative and documentary study draws on cultural history for the analysis of the eleven editions of the Unsere Schule, edited by the Lutheran Church in German, for its parochial schools, from August 1933 to October 1935. In 1900, the German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, today the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, began mission in the German colonies in the state, founding religious congregations and parochial schools. These schools were part of a missionary and community project that sought to teach the mother tongue, mathematics, as well as cultural, social and mainly religious values. In its whole of 164 pages, journal Unsere Schule brings contributions to the Lutheran parochial schools in Rio Grande do Sul, through biblical texts, information and pedagogical articles in different areas of knowledge. Journal Unsere Schule presents didactic orientations for the teaching of mathematics using the intuitive method, gives publicity to arithmetic books and publishes pedagogical articles for the practical teaching of geometry and units of measure.

Resumo O artigo discute como a matemática comercial e financeira era ensinada nas escolas paroquiais luteranas do Rio Grande do Sul, durante a primeira metade do século XX, por meio da análise da Segunda Aritmética e da Terceira Aritmética da série Concórdia, editadas pela Igreja Luterana para suas escolas. O aporte metodológico está fundamentado na história cultural e na análise de conteúdo. O Sínodo de Missouri, hoje Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil, iniciou sua missão nas colônias alemãs gaúchas em 1900, fundando congregações religiosas e escolas paroquiais. Essas escolas estavam inseridas num projeto missionário e comunitário que buscava ensinar a língua materna, a matemática e os valores culturais, sociais e religiosos. A matemática comercial e financeira foi abordada de forma contextualizada com a realidade dos alunos, incentivando o desenvolvimento do pensamento proporcional, o cálculo correto de troco e de valores de dívidas, além do estudo de aplicações financeiras envolvendo juros simples.

Abstract The article discusses how commercial and financial mathematics was taught in the Lutheran parochial schools of Rio Grande do Sul, during the first half of the 20th century, through the analysis of the Segunda Aritmética and of the Terceira Aritmética of the Concórdia series, edited by the Lutheran Church for their schools. The methodological support is grounded on cultural history and on content analysis. The Missouri Synod, currently the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, began its mission in the German colonies of Rio Grande do Sul in 1900, by founding religious congregations and parochial schools. These schools were inserted in a missionary and community project that sought to teach the mother tongue, mathematics, and cultural, social and religious values. Commercial and financial mathematics was approached in a contextualized manner in relation to the reality of the students, encouraging the development of the proportional thinking, of the correct calculation of return and debt values, and of the study of financial investments involving simple interest.

RESUMO O artigo tem por objetivo discutir o conhecimento matemático presente no periódico Evangelisch-Lutherisches Kinderblatt für Südamerika (Jornal para crianças da Igreja Evangélica Luterana da América do Sul), editado pela Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil, na década de 1930. O Sínodo de Missouri, hoje Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil, iniciou missão nas colônias alemãs do Rio Grande do Sul em 1900, fundando congregações religiosas e escolas paroquiais. Baseando-se na história cultural, analisaram-se as 88 edições do periódico Kinderblatt, editado no período de dezembro de 1930 a junho/julho de 1939, em alemão gótico. Foi redigido por pastores luteranos e professores paroquiais e publicado pela Casa Publicadora Concórdia de Porto Alegre. O principal objetivo dos editores do periódico era, de forma lúdica, inserir as crianças na prática religiosa luterana por meio de textos, histórias, informações e curiosidades de cunho moral e religioso e de formação geral. Foi usado, complementarmente, no ensino das diferentes áreas do conhecimento nas escolas paroquiais luteranas gaúchas durante a primeira metade do século XX. Em relação à matemática, constatou-se que os editores valorizavam as habilidades concretas e abstratas do aprendizado matemático através do cálculo escrito e do cálculo mental, em forma de atividades lúdicas e prazerosas. Também propunham desafios matemáticos para desenvolver o raciocínio lógico e o pensamento geométrico das crianças.

ABSTRACT The article aims to discuss the mathematical knowledge present in the journal Evangelisch-Lutherisches Kinderblatt für Südamerika (Journal for the children of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of South America), edited by the Lutheran Church in Brazil, in the 1930s. The Missouri Synod, today Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, started its mission in the German colonies of Rio Grande do Sul in 1900, founding religious congregations and parochial schools. Based on cultural history, we analyzed the 88 editions of the Kinderblatt journal, edited in the period of December 1930 to June / July 1939, in Gothic German. It was written by Lutheran pastors and parochial teachers and it was published by Concordia Publishing House of Porto Alegre. The main objective of the journal’s editors was, in a playful way; insert the children in the Lutheran religious practice through texts, stories, information and curiosities of moral and religious nature and of general education. It was used, complementarily, in the teaching of the different areas of knowledge in Lutheran parochial schools in Rio Grande do Sul State during the first half of the 20th century. Regarding mathematics, it was found that the editors valued the concrete and abstract skills of the mathematical learning through written calculation and mental calculation, in form of playful and pleasurable activities. They also proposed mathematical challenges to develop logical reasoning and geometric thinking with the children.
