The representation of business models has been recently widespread, especially in the pursuit of innovation. However, defining a company's business model is sometimes limited to discussion and debates. This study observes the need for performance measurement so that business models can be data-driven. To meet this goal, the work proposed as a hypothesis the creation of a method that combines the practices of the Balanced Scorecard with a method of business models representation - the Business Model Canvas. Such a combination was based on study of conceptual adaptation, resulting in an application roadmap. A case study application was performed to check the functionality of the proposition, focusing on startup organizations. It was concluded that based on the performance assessment of the business model it is possible to propose the search for change through experimentation, a path that can lead to business model innovation.

Dentre os diversos fatores críticos de sucesso que as empresas devem considerar, destaca-se a busca por padrões cada vez mais elevados de produtividade e qualidade. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma iniciativa de integrar a promoção das metodologias Lean Manufacturing e Six Sigma na busca de um melhor desempenho operacional. Essa integração combina a aplicação de elementos de Lean Manufacturing, que visa à racionalização dos fluxos de valor por meio da redução de desperdícios, com elementos de Six Sigma, que visa à sistematização do processo de análise e controle da variação em processos para se obter qualidade superior. O trabalho é baseado num estudo de caso sobre as mudanças realizadas para a acomodação desta abordagem numa empresa fabricante de autopeças. São investigados a estrutura adotada para sua promoção bem como o modo em que os projetos de melhoria são desenvolvidos por meio dela. Os resultados obtidos indicam que a iniciativa de conciliar a aplicação destas duas metodologias pode contribuir para aprimorar e tornar mais abrangente e efetivo o processo de melhoria contínua.

Among the diverse critical success factors that the firms must consider, the pursuit of increasingly higher standards of productivity and quality stands out. In this context, the purpose of this article is to present an initiative to integrate the promotion of the Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies in seeking enhanced operational performance. This integration combines the application of Lean Manufacturing elements that aim at the streamlining of value streams by the elimination of wastes with Six Sigma elements which aim at the systematization of the analysis and control of process variation for accomplishing superior quality. This work is based on a case study on the changes undertaken for the implementation of this approach in an auto parts manufacturer. The organizational structure which was established for the promotion of this approach as well as the mode how projects for the improvement of operational performance are tackled by means of it are examined. The results accomplished reveal that the initiative of conciliating the application of these two methodologies may bring about a more wide-ranging and effective continuous improvement process.

A Manufatura Virtual é uma nova proposta que está sendo utilizada por algumas empresas para revolucionar seus processos, visando introduzir no mercado produtos superiores, mais rapidamente e a um menor custo. A estratégia é criar um ambiente integrado, composto de diversos sistemas e ferramentas de software, com a finalidade de gerar um novo método de desenvolvimento de produto. Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar o conceito de Manufatura Virtual, bem como os paradigmas envolvidos em sua definição, as aplicações potenciais e os benefícios esperados. Apresenta também os sistemas de suporte às atividades de Manufatura Virtual e uma análise dos desafios técnicos e socioculturais para sua implementação.

Virtual Manufacturing has been used by some companies to improve their processes, introducing more quickly new products in the market. The strategy is to create an integrated environment, composed by several software tools and systems, aiming at generating a new method to develop products. The purpose of this paper is to present the Virtual Manufacturing concept and the paradigms involved in its definition. Then the paper describes the potential application areas and the resulting benefits. In addition, the technical and social challenges in development of a Virtual Manufacturing system are discussed at the end of the text.

Este artigo trata do projeto de células de manufatura e enfoca as seguintes questões: a) estratégia e sua importância no contexto de células de manufatura; b) uso do software STORM para o projeto de células de manufatura; c) discute parâmetros relacionados às medidas de desempenho e, são propostos alguns índices para estas medidas. Finalmente, apresenta-se comentários e resultados da aplicação de células de manufatura na indústria americana.

This paper deals with design of manufacturing cells and addresses the following issues: a) strategy and its importance in the context of manufacturing cells; b) use of STORM software for the design of manufacturing cells; c) discuss parameters related to performance measurements and propose some indexes for their measurement. Finally, it presents comments and results of the application of manufacturing cells in American industry.
