ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the impact of impaired pulmonary function on patient-centered outcomes after hospital discharge due to severe COVID-19 in patients without preexisting respiratory disease. Methods: This is an ongoing prospective cohort study evaluating patients (> 18 years of age) 2-6 months after hospital discharge due to severe COVID-19. Respiratory symptoms, health-related quality of life, lung function, and the six-minute walk test were assessed. A restrictive ventilatory defect was defined as TLC below the lower limit of normal, as assessed by plethysmography. Chest CT scans performed during hospitalization were scored for the presence and extent of parenchymal abnormalities. Results: At a mean follow-up of 17.2 ± 5.9 weeks after the diagnosis of COVID-19, 120 patients were assessed. Of those, 23 (19.2%) reported preexisting chronic respiratory diseases and presented with worse lung function and exertional dyspnea at the follow-up visit in comparison with their counterparts. When we excluded the 23 patients with preexisting respiratory disease plus another 2 patients without lung volume measurements, a restrictive ventilatory defect was observed in 42/95 patients (44%). This subgroup of patients (52.4% of whom were male; mean age, 53.9 ± 11.3 years) showed reduced resting gas exchange efficiency (DLCO), increased daily-life dyspnea, increased exertional dyspnea and oxygen desaturation, and reduced health-related quality of life in comparison with those without reduced TLC (50.9% of whom were male; mean age, 58.4 ± 11.3 years). Intensive care need and higher chest CT scores were associated with a subsequent restrictive ventilatory defect. Conclusions: The presence of a restrictive ventilatory defect approximately 4 months after severe COVID-19 in patients without prior respiratory comorbidities implies worse clinical outcomes.

RESUMO Objetivo: Investigar o impacto do comprometimento da função pulmonar nos desfechos centrados no paciente após a alta hospitalar em pacientes sem doenças respiratórias preexistentes que foram hospitalizados em virtude de COVID-19 grave. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo prospectivo de coorte em andamento, no qual pacientes com COVID-19 grave (com idade > 18 anos) são avaliados 2-6 meses depois da alta hospitalar. Avaliamos os sintomas respiratórios, a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde, a função pulmonar e a distância percorrida no teste de caminhada de seis minutos. A definição de distúrbio ventilatório restritivo foi CPT abaixo do limite inferior da normalidade na pletismografia. As imagens de TC de tórax realizadas durante a hospitalização foram avaliadas quanto à presença e extensão de alterações parenquimatosas. Resultados: Em média 17,2 ± 5,9 semanas depois do diagnóstico de COVID-19, foram avaliados 120 pacientes. Destes, 23 (19,2%) relataram doenças respiratórias crônicas preexistentes e apresentaram pior função pulmonar e maior dispneia aos esforços na consulta de acompanhamento quando comparados aos outros participantes. Quando excluímos os 23 pacientes com doenças respiratórias preexistentes e mais 2 pacientes (sem medidas de volumes pulmonares), observamos distúrbio ventilatório restritivo em 42/95 pacientes (44%). Esse subgrupo de pacientes (52,4% dos quais eram do sexo masculino, com média de idade de 53,9 ± 11,3 anos) apresentou menor eficiência das trocas gasosas (DLCO), maior dispneia na vida diária e dessaturação de oxigênio ao exercício e redução da qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde em comparação com aqueles sem redução da CPT (50,9% dos quais eram do sexo masculino, com média de idade de 58,4 ± 11,3 anos). A necessidade de terapia intensiva e pontuações mais altas no escore de alterações parenquimatosas na TC de tórax apresentaram relação com distúrbio ventilatório restritivo subsequente. Conclusões: A presença de distúrbio ventilatório restritivo aproximadamente 4 meses depois da COVID-19 grave em pacientes sem comorbidades respiratórias prévias implica piores desfechos clínicos.

RESUMO Introdução: Os efeitos provocados pela COVID-19 em longo prazo são desconhecidos. O presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar os fatores associados com a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde e os desfechos em longo prazo em sobreviventes à hospitalização por COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: Este será um estudo multicêntrico de coorte prospectivo, aninhado em cinco ensaios clínicos randomizados desenhados para avaliar os efeitos dos tratamentos específicos para COVID-19 em mais de 50 centros no Brasil. Pacientes adultos sobreviventes à hospitalização por infecção por SARS-CoV-2 comprovada ou suspeita serão seguidos por um período de 1 ano, por meio de entrevistas telefônicas estruturadas. O desfecho primário é o escore de utilidade para qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde após 1 ano, avaliado segundo o questionário EuroQol-5D3L. Os desfechos secundários incluirão mortalidade por todas as causas, eventos cardiovasculares graves, reospitalizações, retorno ao trabalho ou estudo, condição funcional física avaliada pelo instrumento Lawton-Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, dispneia avaliada segundo a escala de dispneia modificada do Medical Research Council, necessidade de suporte ventilatório em longo prazo, sintomas de ansiedade e depressão avaliados segundo a Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, sintomas de transtorno de estresse pós-traumático avaliados pela ferramenta Impact of Event Scale-Revised e autoavaliação da condição de saúde, conforme a Escala Visual Analógica do EuroQol-5D3L. Serão utilizadas equações de estimativas generalizada para testar a associação entre cinco conjuntos de variáveis (1 - características demográficas, 2 - condição de saúde pré-morbidade, 3 - características da doença aguda, 4 - terapias específicas para COVID-19 recebidas e 5 - variáveis pós-alta atualizadas) e desfechos. Ética e disseminação: O protocolo do estudo foi aprovado pelos Comitês de Ética em Pesquisa de todas as instituições participantes. Os resultados serão disseminados por meio de conferências e periódicos revisados por pares.

Abstract Introduction: The long-term effects caused by COVID-19 are unknown. The present study aims to assess factors associated with health-related quality of life and long-term outcomes among survivors of hospitalization for COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: This is a multicenter prospective cohort study nested in five randomized clinical trials designed to assess the effects of specific COVID-19 treatments in over 50 centers in Brazil. Adult survivors of hospitalization due to proven or suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection will be followed-up for a period of 1 year by means of structured telephone interviews. The primary outcome is the 1-year utility score of health-related quality of life assessed by the EuroQol-5D3L. Secondary outcomes include all-cause mortality, major cardiovascular events, rehospitalizations, return to work or study, physical functional status assessed by the Lawton-Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, dyspnea assessed by the modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale, need for long-term ventilatory support, symptoms of anxiety and depression assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder assessed by the Impact of Event Scale-Revised, and self-rated health assessed by the EuroQol-5D3L Visual Analog Scale. Generalized estimated equations will be performed to test the association between five sets of variables (1- demographic characteristics, 2- premorbid state of health, 3- characteristics of acute illness, 4- specific COVID-19 treatments received, and 5- time-updated postdischarge variables) and outcomes. Ethics and dissemination: The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of all participant institutions. The results will be disseminated through conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

Abstract Aim: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effects of considering single/ combined and raw/ standardized measures from the Körperkoordinationstest für Kinder (KTK) and Fitnessgram tests on the relation between GMC and HRPF in four age-groups. Method: Participated five-hundred thirty-one children and adolescents (279 boys). The individuals were divided into four groups: 4 to 7, 7 to 9.5, 9.5 to 12, 12 to 15 years of age. We utilized the KTK and Fitnessgram tests to measure, respectively, GMC and HRPF. Bootstrap correlations and χ2 tests were performed for all individuals, and each group controlling for sex. Results: For the raw scores, correlations were around (absolute) r = 0.37, except body composition, with large decreases when controlling for age and sex. For standardized tests, considering either the GMC quotient or GMC categories, correlations were all significant (around r = 0.34). Finally, considering broad categories (apt/non-apt and coordinated/non-coordinated), the association was 0.16. Conclusions: We found clear influences of the measure utilized on the association between GMC and HRPF measures.

RESUMO Introdução: Há diversas terapias sendo utilizadas, consideradas ou propostas para o tratamento da COVID-19, muitas carecendo de apropriada avaliação de efetividade e segurança. O propósito deste documento é fornecer recomendações baseadas nas evidências científicas disponíveis e em sua interpretação transparente, para subsidiar decisões sobre o tratamento farmacológico da COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: Um grupo de 27 especialistas e metodologistas integraram a força-tarefa formada pela Associação de Medicina Intensiva Brasileira (AMIB), pela Sociedade Brasileira de Infectologia (SBI) e pela Sociedade Brasileira de Pneumologia e Tisiologia (SBPT). Foram realizadas revisões sistemáticas rápidas, atualizadas até 28 de abril de 2020. A qualidade das evidências e a elaboração das recomendações seguiram o sistema GRADE. As recomendações foram elaboradas nos dias 5, 8 e 13 de maio de 2020. Resultados: Foram geradas 11 recomendações, embasadas em evidência de nível baixo ou muito baixo. Não há indicação para uso de rotina de hidroxicloroquina, cloroquina, azitromicina, lopinavir/ritonavir, corticosteroides ou tocilizumabe no tratamento da COVID-19. Heparina deve ser utilizada em doses profiláticas no paciente hospitalizado, mas não deve ser realizada anticoagulação na ausência de indicação clínica específica. Antibacterianos e oseltamivir devem ser considerados somente nos pacientes em suspeita de coinfecção bacteriana ou por influenza, respectivamente. Conclusão: Até o momento, não há intervenções farmacológicas com efetividade e segurança comprovada que justifiquem seu uso de rotina no tratamento da COVID-19, devendo os pacientes serem tratados preferencialmente no contexto de pesquisa clínica. As recomendações serão revisadas continuamente, de forma a capturar a geração de novas evidências.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Different therapies are currently used, considered, or proposed for the treatment of COVID-19; for many of those therapies, no appropriate assessment of effectiveness and safety was performed. This document aims to provide scientifically available evidence-based information in a transparent interpretation, to subsidize decisions related to the pharmacological therapy of COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: A group of 27 experts and methodologists integrated a task-force formed by professionals from the Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine (Associação de Medicina Intensiva Brasileira - AMIB), the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases (Sociedad Brasileira de Infectologia - SBI) and the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (Sociedade Brasileira de Pneumologia e Tisiologia - SBPT). Rapid systematic reviews, updated on April 28, 2020, were conducted. The assessment of the quality of evidence and the development of recommendations followed the GRADE system. The recommendations were written on May 5, 8, and 13, 2020. Results: Eleven recommendations were issued based on low or very-low level evidence. We do not recommend the routine use of hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, azithromycin, lopinavir/ritonavir, corticosteroids, or tocilizumab for the treatment of COVID-19. Prophylactic heparin should be used in hospitalized patients, however, no anticoagulation should be provided for patients without a specific clinical indication. Antibiotics and oseltamivir should only be considered for patients with suspected bacterial or influenza coinfection, respectively. Conclusion: So far no pharmacological intervention was proven effective and safe to warrant its use in the routine treatment of COVID-19 patients; therefore such patients should ideally be treated in the context of clinical trials. The recommendations herein provided will be revised continuously aiming to capture newly generated evidence.

ABSTRACT Objective This study investigated the familial aggregation and heritability of markers of metabolic risk, physical activity, and physical fitness in nuclear families from Muzambinho (Minas Gerais, Brazil). Subjects and methods The study included members of 139 families, comprising 97 fathers (aged 40 ± 7 years), 129 mothers (35 ± 6 years), 136 sons (12 ± 4 years), and 121 daughters (12 ± 5 years). Evaluated markers included (A) body mass index, waist circumference, glycemia, and cholesterolemia, as metabolic risk markers; (B) total weekly volume of physical activity, as a physical activity marker; and (C) relative muscle strength, as a physical fitness marker. Correlations between family members and heritability (h2) were estimated using the software S.A.G.E. Results Significant familial correlations were obtained between parents-offspring for glycemia and cholesterolemia (both ρ = 0.21, p < 0.05) and relative muscle strength (ρ = 0.23, p < 0.05), and between siblings for waist circumference, glycemia, total weekly volume of physical activity, and relative muscle strength (ρ variation 0.25 to 0.36, p < 0.05). Heritability values were significant for almost all variables (h2 variations: 20% to 57% for metabolic risk markers, 22% for the total weekly volume of physical activity, and 50% for relative muscle strength), except for waist circumference (h2 = 15%, p = 0.059). Conclusion The presence of significant correlations between family members and/or significant heritability strengthens the possible genetic and/or common familial environment influence on metabolic risk markers, total weekly volume of physical activity, and relative muscle strength.

RESUMO Objetivo: verificar o índice de alta hospitalar em aleitamento materno e a atuação fonoaudiológica no período de implantação do Método Canguru em um hospital escola de nível terciário. Métodos: estudo retrospectivo, documental, com coleta de dados dos prontuários eletrônicos de todos os recém-nascidos pré-termo e/ou baixo peso, nascidos ou admitidos no período de agosto de 2016 a agosto de 2017, em um hospital escola, e atendidos pela equipe de fonoaudiologia. Foram coletados dados como caracterização da amostra (gênero, APGAR, idade gestacional, peso ao nascimento, período de intubação orotraqueal), período de atendimento fonoaudiológico, descrição das condutas utilizadas, tais como o peso para início ao aleitamento materno, técnica de “mama esvaziada”, translactação e forma de alimentação no momento da alta fonoaudiológica e hospitalar. Foram aplicados os testes estatísticos adotando-se o nível de significância menor que 0,05. Resultados: houve maior índice de aleitamento materno nos prematuros moderados, nascidos com idade gestacional de 30 a 34 semanas e nos recém-nascidos de baixo peso. Conclusão: o aleitamento materno foi a forma de alimentação prevalente dos recém-nascidos. Os resultados mostram que a estimulação fonoaudiológica dos recém-nascidos foi adaptada do modelo convencional para o modelo proposto pelo Método Canguru e apresentou concordância com as orientações do atendimento humanizado.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify the hospital discharge rate in breastfeeding and speech-language practice during implementation of the kangaroo method in a tertiary-level teaching hospital. Methods: a retrospective and documentary study, whose data were collected from electronic medical records of all preterm and/or low birth weight newborns, born at or admitted to a teaching hospital, from August 2016 to August 2017, and who had received care by the speech-language team. Data were collected regarding sample characterization (gender, Apgar, gestational age, birth weight, and orotracheal intubation time); speech-language therapy time; description of the procedures used, such as weight to start breastfeeding, empty breast technique, translactation, and feeding method at the time of speech-language therapy and hospital discharge. Appropriate statistical tests were applied, adopting a significance level lower than 0.05%. Results: there was a higher rate of breastfeeding in moderately preterm infants, born in a gestational age of 30 to 34 weeks, and in low birth weight newborns. Conclusion: breastfeeding was the prevalent feeding method for newborns. The results show that the speech-language stimulation of newborns was adapted from the conventional model to that proposed by the Kangaroo Method, corroborating with humanized care guidelines.

Abstract: The Paranhana River, located in Southern Brazil, is one of the major tributaries of the Sinos River basin and receives mainly industrial and domestic effluents. In the present study, water physicochemical and microbiological analyses, condition factor, micronucleus test, gill histopathology and metal bioaccumulation in the muscle of the native fish Bryconamericus iheringii collected at two sites (S1 and S2) of the Paranhana River under different degrees of anthropogenic pressures were assessed in four sampling campaigns. Data from water quality parameters, condition factor, mucous cells proliferation in fish gills and bioaccumulation of chromium and manganese in muscle evidenced higher impacts at S2, whereas a higher genotoxic potential was observed at S1. Gill histopathological alterations were found in fish captured at both sampling sites. Temporal variations in all biomarkers analyzed and bioaccumulation of manganese and nickel were observed at S1, whereas only variations in condition factor, gill alterations and bioaccumulation of manganese and aluminum were found at S2. Our study evidences that S1 is under minor anthropogenic impacts and that the high urbanization at S2 reflects in a poor water quality. Nonetheless, the human consumption of fish from the Paranhana River should be avoided given the high concentrations of cadmium, chromium and lead.

RESUMO A Prática Organizada de atividades físicas (PO) é um tipo de atividade física realizada por programa organizado com frequência e duração, sob a supervisão de um adulto (professor ou treinador), e envolve algum tipo de demonstração do seu desempenho, que pode ser por meio de competições e/ou festivais. Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar a relação entre a Competência Atlética Percebida (CAP) e o tempo gasto em Práticas Organizadas em esportes, lutas e danças, considerando o estado maturacional e o sexo de adolescentes. Neste estudo transversal e correlacional participaram 213 rapazes e moças com idade entre 13 e 16 anos. A CAP e as PO dos indivíduos foram avaliadas por meio de questionários. O estado maturacional foi determinado pelo cálculo do pico de volocidade de crescimento. Correlações bivariadas e parciais foram realizadas para análise dos dados. Os resultados mostraram que independentemente do estado maturacional dos indivíduos, houve uma relação positiva entre a Competência Atlética Percebida e o Total de Práticas Organizadas para rapazes e moças (rho = 0,40, p <0,01). Neste estudo, a relação entre a Competência Atlética Percebida e o tempo gasto nas Práticas Organizadas, durante a infância até a adolescência, pareceu ser um evento independente do estado maturacional.

ABSTRACT The Organized Practice of physical activities (OP) is a kind of physical activity carried out in an organized program of frequency and duration, under the supervision of an adult (teacher or coach), and involve some kind of demonstration of performance which may be competitions and/or festivals. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the Perceived Athletic Competence (PAC) and the time spent in Organized Practices in sports and dance, considering the adolescent maturational status and sex. In this cross-sectional and correlational study participated 213 boys and girls aged between 13 and 16 years. The Perceived Athletic Competence and the Organized Practices of the individuals was assessed by questionnaires. The maturational status was determined by calculating the peak growth rate. Bivariate and partial correlations were performed. The results showed that regardless of maturational status of individuals, there was a positive relationship between Perceived Athletic Competence and total Organized Practices for boys and girls (rho = 0.40, p < 0.01). In this study, the relationship between Perceived Athletic Competence and time spent in Organized Practices during childhood until adolescence appeared to be an independent event from maturational status.

The aim of this study was to assess histopathological alterations in the gills of Astyanax jacuhiensis from different points along the Ijuí River and to determine if these abnormalities can be used as biomarkers in biomonitoring studies. Fish specimens were collected from three sites on the Ijuí River in winter and summer and examined histologically for abnormalities of the secondary lamellae of their gills. For each fish, estimates were made of the frequencies of lamellae with edema, hyperplasia, hypertrophy, epithelium lifting, lamellar fusion or deformation, in addition to the overall frequency of abnormal lamellae and the number of abnormalities per lamella. No differences were observed between sampling points during the winter. In summer the frequency of lamellae with hypertrophy was significantly higher at site 3 (Pirapó) than at site 2 (Santo Ângelo) and the frequency of abnormal lamellae was increased at site 1 (Ijuí) in comparison to site 3. Additionally, all three sample points had a significantly higher value in the winter than in the summer for one of the histological parameters analyzed. These results indicate temporal and spatial variation in the level of contamination of the Ijuí River and also shows that fish gill histopathology can be used for in situ biomonitoring studies.

El agua de la cuenca del río Ijuí, en el sur de Brasil, se utiliza principalmente para irrigar los cultivos y para el abastecimiento público de agua. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar alteraciones histopatológicas en las branquias de Astyanax jacuhiensis en diferentes puntos del Río Ijuí y determinar si tales anormalidades pueden ser usadas como biomarcadores en estudios de biomonitoramiento. Los especímenes fueron recolectados en tres puntos del río durante el invierno y el verano y luego las lamelas secundarias de las branquias fueron examinadas histológicamente para la presencia de anormalidades. Para cada pez se estimaron las frecuencias de lamelas con edema, hiperplasia, hipertrofia, desprendimiento del epitelio, fusión y deformación lamelar. Además, se obtuvieron las frecuencias de lamelas alteradas, así como el número medio de cambios por lamela. No se observaron diferencias entre los puntos de recolección durante el invierno. En el verano, la frecuencia de lamelas con hipertrofia fue significativamente mayor en el punto 3 (Pirapó) que en el punto 2 (Santo Angelo), y el punto 1 (Ijuí) presentó mayor frecuencia de lamelas alteradas que el punto 3. Además, en los tres puntos muestreados, el período de invierno presentó valores superiores para uno de los parámetros histológicos analizados. Estos resultados indican variación espacial y temporal en los niveles de contaminación del Río Ijuí y demuestran que el análisis histológico de las branquias de peces puede ser utilizado en estudios de monitoreo in situ.

RESUMO Introdução: A relação negativa entre atividade física, aptidão física e risco cardiovascular está bem estabelecida em populações com baixos níveis de atividade física. Objetivo: O presente estudo investigou essa relação em adultos de Muzambinho, Minas Gerais, uma população com alta taxa de indivíduos fisicamente ativos. Métodos: Participaram 237 indivíduos (132 mulheres), na maioria jovens (44,3% entre 20 e 39 anos). Foram avaliados indicadores de risco cardiovascular (índice de massa corporal, circunferência da cintura, glicemia de jejum, colesterolemia de jejum e pressão arterial sistólica e diastólica), atividade física (volume semanal de atividade física total) e aptidão física (aptidão aeróbica e força manual relativa). Resultados: Mais de 90% dos indivíduos foram classificados como ativos (praticavam atividade física por mais de 150 min/semana). A regressão linear identificou associação negativa da força manual relativa e da aptidão aeróbica ao índice de massa corporal e a circunferência da cintura, bem como associação positiva da força manual relativa à pressão arterial diastólica. Os indicadores de atividade física e aptidão física não se associaram ao risco cardiovascular global. Conclusão: Nessa população, a relação inversa entre atividade física, aptidão física e risco cardiovascular limitou-se aos indicadores de aptidão física e aos de obesidade, sugerindo que em populações com alta taxa de indivíduos fisicamente ativos, o aumento da aptidão física, mas não da atividade física, pode ajudar a reduzir a obesidade. ABSTRACT Introduction: The negative relationship between physical activity, physical fitness, and cardiovascular risk is well established in populations with low levels of physical activity. Objective: The present study investigated this relationship in adults from Muzambinho, Minas Gerais, a population with a high rate of physically active individuals. Methods: Two hundred and thirty-seven individuals (132 women), mostly young adults (44.3% between 20 and 39 years) were assessed. Cardiovascular risk predictors (body mass index, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, fasting cholesterol, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure), physical activity (total weekly volume of total physical activity) and physical fitness (aerobic fitness and relative hand strength) were measured. Results: More than 90% of the individuals were classified as active (they practiced physical activity for more than 150 min/week). Linear regression identified a negative association of relative hand strength and aerobic fitness to body mass index and waist circumference, as well as a positive association of relative hand strength with diastolic blood pressure. The indicators of physical activity and physical fitness showed no association with global cardiovascular risk. Conclusion: In this population, the inverse relationship between physical activity, physical fitness and cardiovascular risk was limited to physical fitness and obesity indicators, suggesting that in populations with high rates of physically active individuals, the increase in physical fitness, but not in physical activity, can help reduce obesity. RESUMEN Introducción: La relación negativa entre actividad física, aptitud física y riesgo cardiovascular está bien establecida en poblaciones con bajos niveles de actividad física. Objetivo: Este estudio investigó esta relación en adultos de Muzambinho, Minas Gerais, una población con una alta tasa de individuos físicamente activos. Métodos: Participaron 237 individuos (132 mujeres), en su mayoría jóvenes (44,3% entre los 20 y 39 años). Se evaluaron indicadores de riesgo cardiovascular (índice de masa corporal, circunferencia de la cintura, glucosa en ayunas, colesterol en ayunas y presión arterial sistólica y diastólica), actividad física (volumen semanal de actividad física total) y aptitud física (capacidad aeróbica y fuerza relativa de la mano). Resultados: Más del 90% de los individuos fueron clasificados como activos (practicaban actividad física por más de 150 min/semana). La regresión lineal identificó asociación negativa de la fuerza relativa de la mano y la capacidad aeróbica al índice de masa corporal y la circunferencia de la cintura, así como la asociación positiva de la fuerza relativa de la mano a la presión arterial diastólica. Los indicadores de actividad física y aptitud física no se asociaron al riesgo cardiovascular global. Conclusión: En esta población, la relación inversa entre actividad física, aptitud física y riesgo cardiovascular se limitó a los indicadores de aptitud física y obesidad, lo que sugiere que en poblaciones con alta tasa de individuos físicamente activos, el aumento de la aptitud física, pero no de la actividad física, puede ayudar a reducir la obesidad. ABSTRACT Applications for long periods of organic animal waste as a source of nutrients to crops can contaminate the soil and the surface and subsurface waters. This study aimed to evaluate how the utilization of organic waste, after successive applications, affects P fractions in the soil and consequently environmental contamination. In an experiment conducted for 8 years, totaling 12 applications with pig slurry manure (PSM), liquid cattle manure (LCM), swine deep bedding (SDB), and mineral fertilizer (NPK), 460; 505; 1.111; and 535 kg P∙ha−1 were added to the soil through PSM, LCM, SDB, and NPK, respectively. In September 2012, soil samples were collected in the layers 0.0 – 0.04; 0.04 – 0.08; 0.08 – 0.12; 0.12 – 0.16; 0.16 – 0.20 m, prepared and subjected to a sequential chemical fractionation of P. The 12 applications of pig slurry, liquid cattle manure, swine deep bedding and NPK fertilizer for eight years (urea + triple superphosphate + potassium chloride) provided accumulations of P fractions in the soil that were above the necessary for a proper nutrition to plants considering the available P fractions (AER + organic NaHCO3 + inorganic NaHCO3) in the soil. In addition, they showed that the use of swine deep bedding, followed by pig slurry, means higher levels of available P fractions in the soil. In this sense, the establishment of a dosage of organic waste to meet the nitrogen need of crops is not an environmentally appropriate parameter. It may cause P accumulation in the soil, increased absorption ability of plants and soil support, contributing to environmental contamination.

It has been suggested that guidance, encouragement and opportunity are crucial factors for children’s motor development. They are especially important to promote the mastery of fundamental movement skills. The present study investigated the association between two elements related to those factors - proposed curriculum of physical education and the most popular sport in a given country - and the incidence of mastery in the FMS in children from 4 to 10 years of age. In order to carry out a cross-cultural comparison, three studies from different countries (Portugal, China and USA) that used TGMD-II were selected. The results indicated association between proposed curriculum and the number of children mastering FMS. This association increases in older age groups of children from USA, the most structured curriculum related to FMS, presenting the highest average percentage of mastery. Additionally, we did not find association of the most popular sports in a given country with the mastery of the related skill. These results are interpreted as evidence for the importance of guidance on the mastery of FMS.

Osteonecrose dos maxilares por bifosfonatos (OMB) tem sido descrita desde 2003 como um efeito adverso dos medicamentos bifosfonatos. Essas drogas atuam sobre a vascularização e remodelação óssea, principalmente na atividade osteoclástica, podendo gerar áreas de exposição óssea necrótica. O tratamento para a doença ainda não é definido, mas o tratamento cirúrgico é uma das formas preconizadas que, em algumas situações podem ocasionar deformações orais como as comunicações buco-sinusais. Em situações como esta o tecido adiposo bucal é uma alternativa importante para o recobrimento da comunicação oro-nasal, devido ao seu grande suprimento sanguíneo, elasticidade, ausência de restrição pela idade e segurança. Este trabalho apresenta um caso clínico de paciente de 58 anos do sexo feminino, portadora de OMB em maxila esquerda pelo uso de ácido zoledrônico para câncer metastático. A extensa remoção da porção óssea necrótica resultou em fístula buco-sinusal. O retalho do tecido adiposo bucal foi utilizado para cobrir o defeito. Mais estudos devem ser realizados com relação ao tratamento de OMB, no entanto, se necessário, o retalho de tecido adiposo bucal poderia ser uma alternativa para resolver a comunicação oro-nasal relacionada à OMB.

Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BROJ) has been described since 2003 as an adverse effect of bisphosphonate medications. These drugs act on the vasculature and bone remodeling, mainly on osteoclastic activity and can cause areas of necrotic bone exposure. Treatment for the BROJ is not yet defined, but surgical treatment is one of the forms proposed, which may cause oral deformities like sinus communication in some cases. In situations like this the buccal fat pad is an important alternative for coating nasal-oral communications, due its large blood supply, elasticity, absence of restriction by age and safety. This paper presents the case of a 58-year-old woman with BROJ in the left maxilla caused by the use of zoledronic acid for metastatic breast cancer. The extensive necrotic bone area was surgically removed resulting in oral sinus communication. A buccal fat pad was used to cover the defect. More studies should be performed regarding the treatment of BROJ but, if necessary, a buccal fat pad flap could be an alternative to solve nasal-oral communications related to BROJ.

A massificação da prática esportiva começando pela escola tem sido sugerida como uma forma eficaz para transformar o Brasil numa potência no esporte de alto rendimento. O objetivo deste ensaio é analisar e refletir sobre o discurso, a realidade e as possiblidades de ensino do esporte na escola, tendo como pano de fundo a relação entre a Educação Física Escolar e o esporte de alto rendimento. Em outras palavras, fazer uma análise crítica para qualificar a vinculação escola-esporte de alto rendimento com o intuito de deixar claro o papel social da escola e a sua eventual contribuição para a formação de atletas, e para discutir as possibilidades reais de se ensinar o esporte na escola, particularmente as habilidades motoras, consideradas as condições em que ela se encontra.

The amplification of mass sport practice starting from school physical education has been suggested as an effective way to transform Brazil in a powerful high performance sport country. The objective of this essay is to analyze and reflect on discourse, reality and possibilities of teaching sport in the schools having as a background the relationship between school physical education and high performance sport. In other words, to carry out a critical analysis to qualify the link school-high performance sport in order to make clear the social role of the school and its eventual contribution to the formation of athletes, and to discuss the real possibilities to teach sport in the schools, particularly motor skills, considering the conditions in which they now are.
