Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a role not only in calcium homeostasis, but also in several other functions, including cell growth and immune functions, and is considered a neurosteroid. Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent worldwide and has been suggested to be associated with an increased risk of emotional disorders. Therefore, the association between vitamin D levels and psychophysiological disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and mood, has been investigated. To list these variables, a bibliographical literature research was conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct and PsycINFO databases, between November and December 2020, with no year limits of publication. The studies involved humans aged between 18 and 59 years without associated diseases. This review presents evidence of the main variables involved in this association, main tools used to verify these variables, and methods used to verify circulating vitamin D levels in populations. Most studies have indicated that the main psychophysiological variables involved with vitamin D levels are depression and anxiety followed by mood, and an association has been observed between increased serum vitamin D levels and reduction in symptoms of depression, anxiety, and mood, and there is a heterogeneity of methods for assessing vitamin D. More studies are clearly needed to improve our understanding of their role in modulating the psychophysiological aspects of vitamin D levels.

Abstract: We analyzed the text of the play Copenhagen by Michael Frayn, a posthumous conversation among Heisenberg, Bohr and his wife Margrette, based on the meeting of the scientists in 1941. It involves the principles of uncertainty and complementarity and Heisenberg's participation in the likely construction of the German atomic bomb. As an analytical device, elements of Dramaturgy were mobilized, such as conflict, drama/epic genres, scenic indications, dramatic/post-dramatic issues, and their effects on meaning production about uncertainty, by providing visibility to material aspects in this text. The Heisenberg's principle appears as an inspiration for the central axis of a textual structure that produces different meanings of uncertainty, metaphorically linked to elements of the uncertainty principle in Quantum Theory, and produces a displacement of entities from microphysics towards human entities. Epistemic limits associated with the entities' ontology have changed into supposed limits for ethical-moral judgments. The implications for Science Education are discussed, and ideas for future research are presented.

Evidence shows that metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with a greater risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD) because of the increase in oxidative stress levels along with other factors such as neuroinflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction. However, because some studies have reported that MS is associated with a lower risk of PD, the relationship between MS and PD should be investigated. This study aimed to investigate the effect of MS on PD. Two authors searched five electronic databases, namely, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and Science Direct, for relevant articles between September and October 2020. After screening the title and abstract of all articles, 34 articles were selected for full-text review. Finally, 11 articles meeting the eligibility criteria were included in the study. The quality of articles was critically evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute. Overall, we evaluated data from 23,586,349 individuals (including healthy individuals, with MS and PD) aged 30 years or more. In cohort studies, the follow-up period varied between 2 and 30 years. MS contributed considerably to the increase in the incidence of PD. In addition, obesity, a component of MS, alone can increase the probability of developing neurodegenerative diseases. However, despite few studies on MS and PD, changes in cognitive function and more rapid progression of PD disease has been documented in patients with MS using methods commonly used in research.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE The scientific community is constantly assessing the clinical and laboratory manifestations of COVID-19 in the organism. In view of the fragmentation of the large amount of information, knowledge gaps in relation to laboratory markers, and scarcity of papers in Portuguese, we propose a Literature review on laboratory changes observed in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. METHODS Analysis of articles published between December 2019 and May 2020 on the PubMed and SciELO databases. The articles were identified, filtered, and evaluated based on the approach to the subject, language, and impact. Then, the articles were subjected to a thorough reading, in full, by 4 (four) independent researchers. RESULTS Leukopenia and lymphopenia were included in most studies, even in case definitions. Platelet count and platelet-lymphocyte ratio, at peak platelet, were associated with advanced age and longer hospital stay. Eosinopenia showed a sensitivity of 74.7% and specificity of 68.7% and, together with increased CRP, these are one of the future prospects for screening for disease. A high level of procalcitonin may indicate bacterial co-infection, leading to a worse prognosis. COVID-19 manifests itself with increased levels of many inflammatory markers such as IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-7, IL-12, IP10, IFN-γ, MIP1A, MCP1, GSCF, TNF-α, and MCP1/CCL2, as well as LDH, ESR, D-dimer, CK, ALT, and AST. CONCLUSION There is a need for further studies on the new SARS-CoV-2. So far, there is no consensus regarding laboratory findings and their usefulness, whether as a prognostic marker, mortality, or disease severity.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to verify the influence of plantar pressure and range of motion of hip, knee and ankle variables with the risk of falls in older women. Thirty-nine older women participated, for which Maximum and Medium Pressure were evaluated using the baropodometry platform. Then, we performed the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and subsequently the range of motion (ROM) evaluation of hip and knee flexion and dorsal and plantar ankle flexion through the use of a goniometer. Baropodometric variables (Maximum Pressure and Medium Pressure) showed a tendency to influence the values of the TUG according to the value of the hypothesis test (P = 0.051), demonstrating a moderate correlation (R = 0.487), with emphasis on the Maximum Pressure showing significant correlation with the TUG (P<0.005). However, the joint range of motion of hip, knee and ankle showed no significant correlations in the baropodometric variables and in the risk of falls. Concerning the analysis of the association between the TUG classified with low and medium risk of falls with the falls, no differences were found (P=0.475). The increase in maximum pressure showed a relation with the risk of falls, though the range of motion of hip, knee and ankle showed no relation to the risk of falls and the baropodometric variables in the researched population.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.
