ABSTRACT OBJECTIVES To compare the coverage of cervical cancer screening in Brazil in 2013 and 2019, investigating the factors associated with having the test performed and the reasons given for not doing it. Additionally, a comparison is made concerning the time taken to receive the test result in SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde) and in the private health services. METHODS Using data from the National Health Survey (Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde - PNS), prevalence rates and corresponding confidence intervals were calculated to determine the frequency of recent cervical cancer screenings among women aged between 25 and 64 years old in Brazil, for both 2013 and 2019. Poisson regression models were employed to compare the prevalence of the outcome according to sociodemographic characteristics. The reasons for not having the test and the time between performing and receiving the result were also analyzed. RESULTS The findings revealed an increase in the coverage of preventive cervical cancer exams in Brazil from 78.7% in 2013 to 81.3% in 2019. Additionally, there was a decline in the proportion of women who had never undergone the exam, from 9.7% to 6.1%. Prevalence of test uptake was higher among white women, those with higher levels of education and income, and those residing in the South and Southeast regions of the country. The most commonly cited reasons for not taking the test were the impression it was unnecessary (45% in both 2013 and 2019) and never having been asked to undergo the test (20.6% in 2013 and 14.8% in 2019). CONCLUSIONS Despite the high coverage of screening achieved in the country, there is great inequality in access to the test, and a non-negligible number of women are at greater risk of dying from a preventable disease. Efforts must be made to structure an organized screening program that identifies and captures the most vulnerable women.

Abstract This paper researches the dropout of students at the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (Unioeste) from the beginning of 2010 academic year to the beginning of 2018, considering only those who have entered until 2015. This cut-off year (2015) has the goal of providing a period for the students in the sample (and for the study) to define their situation in the university (dropping out or not). The data sources were the academic administrative records containing information on enrollment, academic performance, and the student’s academic status (attending classes or dropping out), thus a socioeconomic survey regularly applied to candidates for the vacancies in the entrance exam. The goal is to cross information seeking to identify characteristics of the phenomenon and possible associated causes. The analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, such as associating tests (Chi-square), mean/median comparisons and correlation analysis. Data were analyzed using the R software (R Core Team, 2020). The study identified that the dropout is associated with: the under-graduation course; family income; extra work alongside with college; parental education; shift; course modality; grade; competition in the entrance exam among other variables already observed in the literature. As theoretical support, the study is based on Vincent Tinto, Alain Coulon and, mainly, on the theory of Habitus, by Pierre Bourdieu. From this perspective, we have observed a multicausal nature in the dropout phenomenon. In addition, socioeconomic characteristics create different types of difficulties that, when associated to other causes, end up determining different chances of carrying on in the university.

ABSTRACT The SISBIOTA-BRASIL was a three-year multimillion-dollar research program of the Brazilian government to document plants and animals in endangered/understudied areas and biomes in Brazil. Distributional patterns and the historical events that generated them are extensively unknown regarding Brazilian fauna and flora. This deficiency hinders the development of conservation policies and the understanding of evolutionary processes. Conservation decisions depend on precise knowledge of the taxonomy and geographic distribution of species. Given such a premise, we proposed to research the diversity of Diptera of the Brazilian western arc of Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rondônia. Three important biomes of the South American continent characterize these Brazilian states: Amazon forest, Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah), and Pantanal. Besides their ecological relevance, these biomes historically lack intensive entomological surveys. Therefore, they are much underrepresented in the Brazilian natural history collections and in the scientific literature, which is further aggravated by the fact that these areas are being exponentially and rapidly converted to commercial lands. Our project involved over 90 collaborators from 24 different Brazilian institutions and one from Colombia among researchers, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students, and technicians. We processed and analyzed nearly 300,000 specimens from ~60 families of Diptera collected with a large variety of methods in the sampled areas. Here, we provide a detailed overview of the genera and species diversity of 41 families treated. Our results point to a total of 2,130 species and 514 genera compiled and identified for the three states altogether, with an increase of 41% and 29% in the numbers of species and genera known for the three states combined, respectively. Overall, the 10 most species-rich families were Tachinidae, Cecidomyiidae, Tabanidae, Psychodidae, Sarcophagidae, Stratiomyidae, Bombyliidae, Syrphidae, Tephritidae, and Asilidae. The 10 most diverse in the number of genera were Tachinidae, Stratiomyidae, Asilidae, Mycetophilidae, Syrphidae, Tabanidae, Muscidae, Dolichopodidae, Sarcophagidae, and Chloropidae. So far, 111 scientific papers were published regarding taxonomic, phylogenetic, and biogeographical aspects of the studied families, with the description of 101 new species and three new genera. We expect that additional publications will result from this investigation because several specimens are now curated and being researched by specialists.

Objective: To describe the prevalence of alcohol consumption before and during the Covid 19 pandemic and to analyze the factors associated with this behavior during the period of social distancing in Brazilian adolescents. Methods: Cross-sectional study, using data from the Convid Adolescents survey, carried out via the web between June and September 2020. The prevalence of alcohol consumption before and during the pandemic and association with sociodemographic variables, mental health, lifestyles was estimated. A logistic regression model was used to assess associated factors. Results: 9,470 adolescents were evaluated. Alcohol consumption decreased from 17.70% (95%CI: 16.64;18.85) before the pandemic to 12.80% (95%CI: 11.85;13.76) during the pandemic. Higher alcohol consumption was associated with the age group of 16 and 17 years (OR=2.9;1.08-1.53), living in the South region (OR=1.82;1.46;2.27) and Southeast (OR=1.33;1.05;1.69), having 03 or more close friends (OR=1.78;1.25;2.53), reporting worsening sleep problems during the pandemic (OR=;1.59;1.20;2.11), feeling sad sometimes and always (OR=2.27;1.70;3.05), always irritated, being a smoker (OR=13, 74;8.63;21.87) and passive smoking (OR=1.76;1.42;2.19) were associated with higher alcohol consumption. Adherence to the restriction in a very strict way was associated with lower alcohol consumption (OR=0.40;0.32;0.49). Conclusions: The pandemic caused by Covid 19 led to a decrease in the consumption of alcoholic beverages by Brazilian adolescents, being influenced by sociodemographic and mental health factors, adherence to social restriction measures and lifestyle. It is necessary to involve managers, educators, family and society in the articulation of Public Policies for the prevention of alcohol consumption.

Abstract The pursuit of quality of life, which has become marked in recent years, has translated into important population health benefits. This study assessed the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who received pharmaceutical care, and their satisfaction with the service provided in community pharmacies. This single blind, randomized controlled clinical trial included 100 patients. The intervention group (N=47) received pharmaceutical care by a clinical pharmacist and the control group (N=42) received standard care. The Quality of Life Diabetes Questionnaire (DQOL) was used to measure all participants´ quality of life at study enrollment and six months later. Satisfaction of the participants in the intervention group was measured using a validated 14-items questionnaire. At the end of the study, participants in the intervention group had a statistically significant improvement in DQOL scores ( -0.62 x 1.57, p < 0.001) and were highly satisfied with the intervention (96% excellent satisfaction scores). Pharmaceutical care practice was associated with high satisfaction and increased quality of life scores in T2DM patients. These results underscore the important role of pharmacists to improve the health of diabetic patients.

Abstract The article reviews the metallurgical processes used in the first industrial ironworks operated in Brazil, the Patriótica Iron Factory, from 1812 to 1831. It discusses its impact on the ironmaking plants that spread in Minas Gerais's state during the XIX century. The remnants of this Factory in Ouro Preto were the first industrial site listed by the Brazilian Historic Heritage Authority (SPHAN) in 1938. Vale SA, owner of the site, and the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) authorised collecting samples from two ferrous artefacts found in the old Factory, a hammer and an eyebolt nailed to the remnants of one of the reduction furnaces. The eyebolt’s microstructure suggests that this part was produced in the Patriótica Iron Factory, while the hammer’s microstructure indicates that this component was not produced in the Patriótica Iron Factory.

Objective: To estimate prevalence of healthy behaviors among individuals aged 30 years or over diagnosed with arterial hypertension (AH) and diabetes mellitus (DM) using information from the National Health Survey, 2019.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with cluster sampling and simple random sampling in three stages. Individuals were aggregated according to have AH; AH only; DM; DM only; AH and DM only; without chronic non-communicable disease (NCD). Poisson regression models and crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) for sex, age group, and educational level were used. The proportions of recommendations received among AH and DM patients were estimated by type of care (public/private).
Results: A total of 69285 individuals aged 30 years or older was analyzed. Compared to individuals without NCD, prevalence of consumption of fruits and vegetables ≥5 days a week was significantly higher among AH individuals (39.9%; 95%CI 38.8-41.0%) and DM individuals (42.8%; 95%CI 40.7-44.9%). However, estimates of not having consumed ultra-processed food were low, 19.7% (95%CI 18.9-20.6%) and 21.9% (95%CI:20, 3-23.5%), respectively. Prevalence of not smoking reached values close to 90% and significant PRs, while the practice of physical activity had levels below 30% and non-significant PRs. The proportions of healthy eating recommendations reached 90% but were close to 70% for not smoking.
Conclusions: It is necessary to encourage the practice of healthy lifestyles and provide information about the benefits of physical activity and the harmful effects of unhealthy eating for well-being and aging with quality

Considerou as DCNT: diabetes, hipertensão, doença respiratória, doença do coração e câncer.
Abstract The present study investigates the association between the self-reported diagnosis of noncommunicable disease (NCD) and the adherence to social distancing and the use of health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a cross-sectional study with Brazilian adults who participated in the ConVid- Behavior Survey, conducted online between April 24 and May 24, 2020(n = 45.161). This studyconsidered the following NCDs: diabetes, hypertension, respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer, and evaluated the use of health services and the adherence to social distancing, as well as estimated the prevalences and adjusted prevalence ratio (aPR); 33,9% (95% CI: 32,5-35,3) referred to one or more NCD. Individuals with NCDsshowed a greater adherence to intense social distancing (aPR: 1,07;95% CI: 1,03-1,11), sought out health services more often (aPR:1,24; 95% CI:1,11-1,38), and found greater difficultyin scheduling doctor’s appointments (aPR:1.52; 95% CI 1,35-1,71), receiving healthcare treatment (APR:1,50;95% CI:1,22-1,84) and medication (APR:2,17;95% CI:1,77-2,67), and performing examinations (APR:1,78;95% CI:1,50-2,10) and scheduled interventions (APR:1,65;95% CI:1,16-2,34). The presence of NCDs was associated with social distancing, seeking out health care, and difficulty in using health services.

Abstract Objective: To describe fluid resuscitation practices in Brazilian intensive care units and to compare them with those of other countries participating in the Fluid-TRIPS. Methods: This was a prospective, international, cross-sectional, observational study in a convenience sample of intensive care units in 27 countries (including Brazil) using the Fluid-TRIPS database compiled in 2014. We described the patterns of fluid resuscitation use in Brazil compared with those in other countries and identified the factors associated with fluid choice. Results: On the study day, 3,214 patients in Brazil and 3,493 patients in other countries were included, of whom 16.1% and 26.8% (p < 0.001) received fluids, respectively. The main indication for fluid resuscitation was impaired perfusion and/or low cardiac output (Brazil: 71.7% versus other countries: 56.4%, p < 0.001). In Brazil, the percentage of patients receiving crystalloid solutions was higher (97.7% versus 76.8%, p < 0.001), and 0.9% sodium chloride was the most commonly used crystalloid (62.5% versus 27.1%, p < 0.001). The multivariable analysis suggested that the albumin levels were associated with the use of both crystalloids and colloids, whereas the type of fluid prescriber was associated with crystalloid use only. Conclusion: Our results suggest that crystalloids are more frequently used than colloids for fluid resuscitation in Brazil, and this discrepancy in frequencies is higher than that in other countries. Sodium chloride (0.9%) was the crystalloid most commonly prescribed. Serum albumin levels and the type of fluid prescriber were the factors associated with the choice of crystalloids or colloids for fluid resuscitation.

Objective: To analyze changes in the lifestyles of Brazilian adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out with adolescents who participated in the “Covid Adolescentes - Behavior Survey”. The indicators related to lifestyles before and during the pandemic were evaluated: consumption of healthy and unhealthy foods, physical activity and sedentary behavior, smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Prevalence and 95% confidence intervals were calculated for the total population and according to sex and age group. Results: 9,470 adolescents participated in the study. During the period of social distance, there was an increase in the prevalence of consumption of vegetables (from 27.34% to 30.5%), frozen foods (from 13.26% to 17.3%), chocolates and sweets (from 48.58% to 52.51%) and time in front of screens (from 44.57% to 70.15%). On the other hand, there was a decrease in the practice of physical activity (from 28.7% to 15.74%) and in the consumption of alcoholic beverages (from 17.72% to 12.77%). Differences were observed according to sex and age group. Conclusion: The results show changes in the adolescents' lifestyles and an increase in health risk behaviors.
