SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of early neonatal sepsis in pregnant women with a positive culture for group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus in a middle-income city in Southeastern Brazil. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, involving singleton low- and high-risk pregnancies in whom group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus cultures were evaluated between 35 and 37 weeks of gestation using vaginal and anal swabs. A specific medium (Todd-Hewitt) was used for culturing. The pregnant women were divided into two groups based on positive (n==201) and negative (n==420) cultures for group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus. RESULTS: The maternal colonization rate by group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus was 32.3%. The prevalence of early neonatal sepsis was 1.0% (2/201) among patients with a positive group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus culture and 1.9% (8/420) among patients with a negative culture. Among the patients who underwent adequate prophylaxis, crystalline penicillin G was used in 51.9% (54/104), followed by cefazolin in 43.3% (45/104), ampicillin in 3.8% (4/104), and clindamycin in 1.0% (1/104). A model that included prematurity (p==0.001) proved to be an independent risk predictor of early neonatal sepsis [χ2 (1)==15.0, odds ratio: 16.9, 95% confidence interval: 4.7–61.6, p<0.001, Nagelkerke R2==0.157]. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of a positive culture for group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus was high. However, the prevalence of early neonatal sepsis was low in pregnant women with both positive and negative group B beta-hemolytic Streptococcus cultures and in pregnant women with a positive culture who underwent both adequate and inadequate antibiotic prophylaxis. Prematurity proved to be an independent predictor of early neonatal sepsis, considering the entire study population.

Abstract Food, besides being a biological imperative for survival and human health, is coated with cultural meanings that determine its multiple expressions in society. The fields of food, nutrition, health, and anthropology intersect in the discussion about food practices. This theoretical and reflexive essay aims to reflect on the relevance of the food practices of low-income women for the possible overcoming of food and nutritional insecurity, examining the relationships established with food in the context of the kitchen, of their bodies, and of the access to food. The methodological path followed was the reflexive and exploratory study, which uses bibliographical and documental sources to support the analyses based on a critical reading of reality. The patriarchal heritage continues to assign women the role of family caretaker, which encompasses everything from acquiring food to its preparation and serving meals. We propose that the food practices of these women can drive potential changes, which would serve as tools for the application of public health policies. The reflections offer subsidies for planning of policies that can empower them as subjects of critical action and reflection, opening a projection of possible scenarios for the agency of ways to overcome food insecurity. Resumo A alimentação, além de imperativo biológico para sobrevivência e saúde humana, é revestida de significados culturais que determinam suas múltiplas expressões na sociedade. Os campos da alimentação, da nutrição, da saúde e da antropologia se interseccionam na discussão sobre práticas alimentares. Este ensaio teórico do tipo reflexivo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a relevância das práticas alimentares das mulheres de camadas populares para possível superação da insegurança alimentar e nutricional, examinando as relações estabelecidas com a comida no contexto da cozinha, de seus corpos e do acesso aos alimentos. O percurso metodológico consiste no estudo reflexivo de caráter exploratório, que recorre a fontes bibliográficas e documentais para alicerçar as análises com base em uma leitura crítica da realidade. A herança patriarcal continua delegando à mulher o papel de cuidadora familiar, o que abarca a alimentação: desde a aquisição do alimento até o preparo e fornecimento das refeições. Propomos que as práticas alimentares dessas mulheres podem impulsionar potenciais mudanças, que serviriam como ferramentas para aplicação de políticas públicas. Resumo O vínculo com os serviços de saúde é uma dimensão crucial para viabilizar o projeto materno de casais de mulheres lésbicas e bissexuais. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar os significados culturalmente construídos sobre o vínculo com os serviços e profissionais de saúde por mulheres lésbicas e bissexuais que vivenciaram a dupla maternidade. Investigação qualitativa fundamentada na antropologia interpretativa. O corpus de pesquisa foi construído com base em entrevista em profundidade com 10 mulheres de 30 a 39 anos. Os resultados mostram que o acesso à parentalidade implicou um itinerário permeado por satisfações e sofrimentos devido a tentativas frustradas e perdas gestacionais. Também foram relatados percalços vivenciados na produção do cuidado em saúde devido a preconceitos, falta de empatia e despreparo de profissionais para lidarem com acompanhamento de pré-natal aos casais de mulheres lésbicas/bissexuais. As manifestações de discriminação foram mais contundentes em relação às mães não gestantes. Os resultados oferecem subsídios para implementação de políticas de humanização e planejamento de programas e serviços de saúde baseados em cuidados culturalmente sensíveis à diversidade para casais de mulheres lésbicas/bissexuais que vivenciam a transição para a maternidade.

Abstract The bond with healthcare services is a crucial dimension in facilitating the maternal journey of lesbian and bisexual women couples. This study aimed to analyze the culturally constructed meanings regarding the bond with healthcare services and professionals by lesbian and bisexual women who experienced dual motherhood. It is a qualitative investigation grounded in interpretative anthropology. The research corpus was built based on in-depth interviews with 10 lesbian and bisexual women, aged 30 to 39 years. The results indicate that access to parenthood, until its realization, involved a journey permeated by satisfactions and sufferings triggered by failed attempts and gestational losses. Challenges experienced in healthcare provision were also reported due to prejudices, lack of empathy, and unpreparedness of professionals in dealing with prenatal care for lesbian and bisexual women couples. Manifestations of discrimination were more pronounced concerning non-gestational mothers. The findings offer insights into implementing policies that prioritize humanization and planning programs and healthcare services based on culturally sensitive care for lesbian and bisexual women couples as they transition into dual motherhood.

Objective: to verify associations between sociodemographic variables and factors that facilitate and hinder the transition from face-to-face psychological care to remote mode in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: this is an analytical, quantitative, cross-sectional study. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee, data collection was performed by applying an online form consisting of 55 questions. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics techniques. Results: the intentional sampling consisted of a total of 385 Brazilian psychologists, mostly women (67.01%), young professionals with up to five years of graduation (44.16%) most of activities in the private clinic. It was found that training time between five and 10 years was associated with a greater perception of difficulties and that previous experience with remote care facilitated adaptation in the transition from one modality to another. Conclusion: considering that call center can be a powerful tool in the health scenario, it is suggested the inclusion of remote care issues in the research agenda and syllabus in the curricula of health training courses.

Objetivo: verificar asociaciones entre variables sociodemográficas y factores que facilitan y dificultan la transición de la atención psicológica presencial a la modalidad remota en el primer año de la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: se trata de un estudio analítico, cuantitativo y de corte transversal. Después de la aprobación del Comité de Ética en Investigación, la recolección de datos se realizó mediante la aplicación de un formulario en línea que consta de 55 preguntas. Los datos fueron analizados utilizando técnicas de estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Resultados: la muestra de conveniencia estuvo compuesta por 385 psicólogos brasileños, en su mayoría mujeres (67,01%), jóvenes profesionales con hasta cinco años de actuación después de la graduación (44,16%) y predominio de actividades en la clínica privada. Se encontró que el tiempo de formación entre cinco y 10 años se asoció con una mayor percepción de dificultades y que la experiencia previa con la atención a distancia facilitó la adaptación en la transición de una modalidad a otra. Conclusión: considerando que la teleasistencia puede ser una poderosa herramienta en el escenario de la salud, se sugiere que los temas de la teleasistencia sean incluidos en la agenda de investigación y los contenidos programáticos en los currículos de los cursos de formación en salud.

Conclusão: considerando que o teleatendimento pode ser uma ferramenta potente no cenário da saúde, sugere-se a inclusão das questões do atendimento remoto na agenda de pesquisa e conteúdos programáticos das grades curriculares dos cursos de formação em saúde.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report outcomes from the largest multicenter series of penile cancer patients undergoing video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL). Materials and Methods: Retrospective multicenter analysis. Authors of 21 centers from the Penile Cancer Collaborative Coalition-Latin America (PeC-LA) were included. All centers performed the procedure following the same previously described standardized technique. Inclusion criteria included penile cancer patients with no palpable lymph nodes and intermediate/high-risk disease and those with non-fixed palpable lymph nodes less than 4 cm in diameter. Categorical variables are shown as percentages and frequencies whereas continuous variables as mean and range. Results: From 2006 to 2020, 210 VEIL procedures were performed in 105 patients. Mean age was 58 (45-68) years old. Mean operative time was 90 minutes (60-120). Mean lymph node yield was 10 nodes (6-16). Complication rate was 15.7%, including severe complications in 1.9% of procedures. Lymphatic and skin complications were noted in 8.6 and 4.8% of patients, respectively. Histopathological analysis revealed lymph node involvement in 26.7% of patients with non-palpable nodes. Inguinal recurrence was observed in 2.8% of patients. 10y- overall survival was 74.2% and 10-y cancer specific survival was 84.8%. CSS for pN0, pN1, pN2 and pN3 were 100%, 82.4%, 72.7% and 9.1%, respectively. Conclusion: VEIL seems to offer appropriate long term oncological control with minimal morbidity. In the absence of non-invasive stratification measures such as dynamic sentinel node biopsy, VEIL emerged as the alternative for the management of non-bulky lymph nodes in penile cancer.

Abstract There is still little knowledge about the role of friendship within the social support network in eating disorders (EDs). This integrative review aimed to analyze the scientific production about friendship relationships in people with EDs. The literature review was conducted using the PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases in the period from 2010 to 2020. Among the 1126 articles retrieved, 15 met the eligibility criteria, most with a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design, without indicating a theoretical framework. The qualitative aspects of friendship were associated with a reduced frequency and intensity of symptoms when the bond was considered to be of good quality. On the other hand, friendships that involved derogatory comments and negative influences related to body image and eating habits emerged as potential risk factors for triggering disorders. Investing in the quality of peer relationships can contribute to strengthening the social safety net and reducing the psychosocial vulnerability of adolescents at higher risk for developing EDs.

Resumen El papel de la amistad como constitutiva de la red de apoyo social en los trastornos alimentarios (TAs) es aún desconocido. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la producción científica sobre las relaciones de amistad en personas con TAs. Se consultaron las bases PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, PsycINFO, Web of Science e EMBASE, entre 2010 y 2020. De los 1126 artículos recuperados, 15 cumplían los criterios de elegibilidad. La mayoría tiene enfoque cualitativo y diseño transversal, sin indicar el marco teórico. Los aspectos cualitativos de las relaciones de amistad se asociaron con una menor frecuencia/intensidad de los síntomas cuando el vínculo se consideraba de buena calidad. Amistades que implicaban comentarios despectivos e influencias negativas sobre el cuerpo y los hábitos alimentarios se consideraron factores de riesgo. Invertir en la calidad de las relaciones entre pares puede contribuir a reforzar la red de protección social y reducir la vulnerabilidad de adolescentes con riesgo de desarrollar TAs.

Resumo Ainda é desconhecido o papel da amizade enquanto constitutiva da rede de apoio social nos transtornos alimentares (TAs). Esta revisão integrativa teve por objetivo analisar a produção científica sobre relações de amizade em pessoas com TAs. Foram consultadas as bases PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, PsycINFO, Web of Science e EMBASE, de 2010 a 2020. Dos 1126 artigos recuperados, 15 preencheram os critérios de elegibilidade. A maioria tem abordagem qualitativa e delineamento transversal, sem indicar referencial teórico. Aspectos qualitativos das relações de amizade foram associados com redução da frequência e intensidade de sintomas quando o vínculo era considerado de boa qualidade. Já amizades que envolviam comentários depreciativos e influências negativas acerca do corpo e hábitos alimentares foram considerados fatores de risco para desencadeamento dos transtornos. Investir na qualidade dos relacionamentos entre pares pode contribuir para fortalecer a rede de proteção social e reduzir a vulnerabilidade psicossocial de adolescentes com risco para desenvolver TAs.

Abstract This study aimed to identify, analyze, and integrate findings from studies that examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of transgender and transvestite individuals. An integrative literature review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. A systematic search of primary studies was conducted across three databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, and PsycINFO. Eight studies that met the inclusion criteria were included. Thematic analysis of the material generated six thematic categories. The studies analyzed pointed out that the situation of social vulnerability faced by trans people in their daily lives intensified during the pandemic. The need for physical distancing led to increased symptoms of anxiety and depression, worsening economic conditions, and difficulties in accessing procedures and medications that make up the gender affirmation process, in addition to exacerbating family conflicts and manifestations of transphobia. Therefore, there is a need to implement public policies and a social protection network to reduce the vulnerability and psychosocial suffering of the transgender and transvestite community.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio es identificar, analizar e integrar los resultados de los estudios que examinaban el impacto de la pandemia de COVID-19 en la salud mental de las personas transexuales y travestis. Se realizó una revisión integrativa de acuerdo con las directrices PRISMA en tres bases de datos: PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS y PsycINFO. Se incluyeron ocho estudios que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión. El análisis temático del material generó seis categorías temáticas. Los estudios analizados señalaron que la situación de vulnerabilidad social a la que están sometidas las personas trans en la vida cotidiana se amplió durante la pandemia. La necesidad de distanciamiento físico se tradujo en el aumento de los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión, el agravamiento de las condiciones económicas, las dificultades para acceder a los procedimientos y medicamentos que componen el proceso de afirmación del género, además de exacerbar los conflictos familiares y las manifestaciones de transfobia. Es necesario aplicar políticas públicas y una red de protección social para reducir la vulnerabilidad y el sufrimiento psicosocial de las personas transgénero.

Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura, em conformidade com as diretrizes PRISMA. Conduziu-se uma busca sistemática dos estudos primários publicados em três bases de dados: PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS e PsycINFO. Foram incluídos oito estudos que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. A análise temática do material gerou seis categorias temáticas. Os estudos analisados apontaram que a situação de vulnerabilidade social ao qual as pessoas trans encontram-se submetidas no cotidiano foi ampliada durante a pandemia. A necessidade do distanciamento físico resultou no aumento de sintomas de ansiedade e depressão, agravamento das condições econômicas, dificuldades para acessar procedimentos e medicamentos que compõem o processo de afirmação de gênero, além de exacerbar conflitos familiares e manifestações de transfobia. Há necessidade de implementar políticas públicas e uma rede de proteção social para diminuir a vulnerabilidade e sofrimento psicossocial de pessoas trans.

Abstract In search of new materials from industrial waste, aiming at cost, efficiency and reduction of environmental liabilities, this study aimed to evaluate the physical, mechanical, acoustic and thermal characteristics of sandwich panels produced with sheets of Schizolobium amazonicum (paricá) and egg carton core made of cardboard, glued with adhesive phenol formaldehyde (FF), urea formaldehyde (UF) and interleaved the sheets glued with both. The panels were evaluated through thermal, acoustic, physical and mechanical tests. The FF and UF adhesives influenced the physical-mechanical properties of the panels. For thermal conductivity and thermal resistance, it was found that all panels met the normative requirements of NBR 15220 (ABNT, 2005) with emphasis on panels produced with FF. Therefore, the use of paricá sheets 32x12x0.2 cm (length, width and thickness, respectively) and egg box as a core with adhesive, proved to be promising for some uses in civil construction, in addition to adding value to the egg crate residues as thermal and acoustic insulators, can minimize the disposal of raw material in the environment.

Resumo Em busca de novos materiais a partir de resíduos industriais, visando ao custo, à eficiência e à redução do passivo ambiental, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar as características físicas, mecânicas, acústicas e térmicas de painéis sanduíche produzidos com lâminas de Schizolobium amazonicum (paricá) e núcleo de caixa de ovos feitos de papelão coladas com o adesivo fenol-formaldeído (FF) e com o adesivo ureia-formaldeído (UF), intercalando-se estas com lâminas coladas com ambos (FF+UF). Os painéis foram avaliados por meio de ensaios térmicos, acústicos, físicos e mecânicos. Os adesivos FF e UF influenciaram nas propriedades físico-mecânicas dos painéis. Para a condutividade térmica e resistência térmica, verificou-se que todos os painéis atingiram as exigências normativas da NBR 15220 (ABNT, 2005), com destaque para os painéis produzidos com FF. Sendo assim, a utilização das lâminas de paricá de 32x12x0,2 cm (comprimento, largura e espessura respectivamente) e de caixa de ovo como núcleo com adesivo se mostrou promissora para algumas aplicações na construção civil, além de agregar valor aos resíduos de caixa de ovo como isolantes térmicos e acústicos, por minimizar o descarte de matéria-prima no meio ambiente.

Resumo: Este estudo buscou sintetizar e reinterpretar os achados de estudos qualitativos primários sobre a experiência de profissionais de saúde no cuidado a pessoas com anorexia e bulimia nervosa. Realizamos uma revisão sistemática da literatura com a estratégia de busca estruturada SPIDER em seis bases de dados. Foi realizada uma metassíntese com dados destes estudos qualitativos. Os artigos foram triados e avaliados por dois revisores independentes que extraíram dados desses artigos e elaboraram uma síntese temática. No total, 19 artigos atenderam nossos critérios de inclusão e exclusão. A metassíntese revelou três temas descritivos: Sair da zona de conforto: profissionais de saúde tiveram vivências relacionais difíceis no cuidado à pessoa com anorexia e bulimia nervosa; Refletir sobre o tratamento: a relevância da discussão, comunicação e flexibilidade no trabalho dos profissionais de saúde; e Lidar com ambivalências: vivências de profissionais de saúde com familiares de pessoas com anorexia e bulimia nervosa. Elaboramos dois temas analíticos: Tornando o trabalho com distúrbios alimentares agradável: maleabilidade necessária para vincular profissionais de saúde à pessoa com anorexia e bulimia nervosa e sua família; e Saindo da zona de conforto profissional: transição do multi para o interdisciplinar. Assim, os profissionais de saúde mental que trabalham com pessoas diagnosticadas com anorexia e bulimia nervosa enfrentam experiências emocionais difíceis que os fazem se sentir fora de sua zona de conforto, exigindo flexibilidade para o benefício de uma boa aliança terapêutica, mas ainda há dificuldades em promover a interdisciplinaridade.

Resumen: Este estudio buscó sintetizar y reinterpretar los hallazgos de estudios cualitativos primarios sobre la experiencia de profesionales de la salud en el cuidado de personas con anorexia y bulimia nerviosa. Realizamos una revisión sistemática de la literatura con la estrategia de búsqueda estructurada SPIDER en seis bases de datos. Se realizó una metasíntesis con los datos de estos estudios cualitativos. Los artículos fueron seleccionados y evaluados por dos revisores independientes que extrajeron datos de estos artículos y elaboraron una síntesis temática. En total, 19 artículos cumplieron con nuestros criterios de inclusión y exclusión. La metasíntesis reveló tres temas descriptivos: Salir de la zona de confort: los profesionales de la salud tuvieron vivencias relacionales difíciles en el cuidado a la persona con anorexia y bulimia nerviosa; Reflexionar sobre el tratamiento: la relevancia de la discusión, la comunicación y la flexibilidad en el trabajo de los profesionales de la salud; y Lidiar con las ambivalencias: experiencias de los profesionales de la salud con familiares de personas con anorexia y bulimia nerviosa. Elaboramos dos temas analíticos: Hacer agradable el trabajo con los trastornos alimentarios: maleabilidad necesaria para vincular a los profesionales de la salud con la persona con anorexia y bulimia nerviosa y su familia; y Salir de la zona de confort profesional: transición de lo múltiple a lo interdisciplinario. Por lo tanto, los profesionales de la salud mental que trabajan con personas diagnosticadas con anorexia y bulimia nerviosa enfrentan experiencias emocionales difíciles que los hacen sentir fuera de su zona de confort, lo que requiere flexibilidad en beneficio de una buena alianza terapéutica, pero aún existen dificultades para promover la interdisciplinariedad.

Abstract: This study sought to synthesize and reinterpret findings from primary qualitative studies on the experience of health professionals in caring for people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. We conducted a systematic review of the literature with the SPIDER search strategy assessing six databases. A meta-synthesis was performed with data from qualitative studies. Two independent reviewers screened and assessed the articles, extracted data from the articles and elaborated thematic synthesis. Nineteen articles met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The meta-synthesis revealed three descriptive themes: Going outside the comfort zone: hard relational experiences of health professionals in providing care for people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa; Reflecting on treatment: relevance of discussion, communication, and flexibility in health professionals’ work with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa; and Dealing with ambivalences: experiences of health professionals with family members of people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. We elaborated two analytical themes: Making work with eating disorders palatable: malleability necessary for health professionals in bonding with people with anorexia and bulimia nervosa and their families; and Leaving the professional comfort zone: transition from multi to interdisciplinary. Thus, mental health professionals who work with people diagnosed with anorexia and bulimia nervosa cope with hard emotional experiences that makes them feel out of their comfort zone, requiring flexibility to benefit a good therapeutic alliance, but there are still difficulties in promoting interdisciplinarity.

A pandemia da COVID-19 causou uma crise de saúde pública com o aumento no número de mortes. Como resultado, o número de pessoas em luto aumentou significativamente. Além disso, as medidas adotadas com o objetivo de controlar a propagação do vírus desencadearam mudanças nas experiências subjetivas e coletivas de luto. Esta revisão sistemática da literatura teve como objetivo resumir e reinterpretar os resultados de estudos qualitativos sobre a experiência de luto devido à perda familiar durante a pandemia, por meio de uma síntese temática. As buscas foram feitas nas bases de dados Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO e LILACS. Dos 602 artigos identificados, 14 foram incluídos. As evidências foram avaliadas utilizando-se a ferramenta Critical Appraisal Skills Programme. Foram elaborados dois temas descritivos relacionados ao objetivo e um tema analítico, nomeado: “Luto pandêmico: solitário e inacabado”. Esses temas mostraram-se inter-relacionados e indicam que, nesse contexto, as exigências de distância física, a restrição de visitas hospitalares, a comunicação mediada por tecnologia e a proibição ou restrição de rituais fúnebres impactaram negativamente as experiências de perda. Essas mudanças resultaram em experiências marcadas por sentimentos de solidão e desamparo, que devem ser consideradas no planejamento de estratégias de intervenção que favoreçam a comunicação entre os familiares e o ente querido acometido e com a equipe de saúde, possibilitando o acolhimento e a criação de alternativas para os rituais de despedida. Os resultados podem subsidiar novas pesquisas para testar protocolos de intervenção, especialmente para orientar políticas públicas e promover apoio psicológico ao familiar enlutado após a perda.

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha provocado una crisis de salud pública, con un aumento del número de muertes. Como consecuencia, el número de personas en duelo ha aumentado considerablemente. Además, las medidas adoptadas para controlar la propagación del virus han provocado cambios en las experiencias de duelo subjetivas y colectivas. Esta revisión sistemática de la literatura pretende resumir y reinterpretar los resultados de los estudios cualitativos sobre la experiencia de duelo por pérdida familiar durante la pandemia a través de una síntesis temática. Las búsquedas se realizaron en las bases de datos Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO y LILACS. De los 602 artículos identificados, se incluyeron 14. La evidencia se evaluó mediante la herramienta Critical Appraisal Skills Programme. Se elaboraron dos temas descriptivos relacionados con el objetivo y un tema analítico, a saber: “Duelo pandémico: solitario e inacabado”. Estos temas resultaron estar interrelacionados e indican que las experiencias de pérdida en este contexto se vieron negativamente afectadas por los imperativos de la distancia física, la restricción de las visitas al hospital, la comunicación mediada por la tecnología y la prohibición o restricción de los rituales funerarios. Estos cambios se tradujeron en experiencias marcadas por sentimientos de soledad y desamparo, que deben tenerse en cuenta a la hora de planificar estrategias de intervención que favorezcan la comunicación de los familiares con el familiar afectado y con el equipo sanitario, posibilitando la acogida y creando alternativas para los rituales de despedida. Los resultados pueden respaldar nuevas investigaciones para probar protocolos de intervención, especialmente para orientar las políticas públicas y promover el apoyo psicológico al familiar en duelo tras la pérdida.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a public health crisis, with increases in the number of deaths. As a result, the number of bereaved people has increased significantly. In addition, the measures adopted to control the spread of virus have triggered changes in the subjective and collective bereavement experiences. This systematic literature review aims to summarize and reinterpret the results of qualitative studies on the experience of losing family members during the pandemic by a thematic synthesis. The searches were performed in the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and LILACS databases. Among 602 articles identified, 14 were included. Evidence was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool. Two descriptive themes related to the objective were elaborated in addition to one analytical theme, namely: “Pandemic grief: lonely and unresolved”. These themes proved to be interrelated and indicate that experiences of loss in this context were negatively impacted by the imperatives of physical distance, restriction of hospital visits, technology-mediated communication, and prohibition or restriction of funerals. These changes resulted in experiences marked by feelings of loneliness and helplessness, which should be considered when planning intervention strategies that favor communication between family members with the afflicted loved one and with the health care team, enabling welcoming and creating alternatives for farewell rituals. The findings may support further research to test intervention protocols, especially to guide public policies and promote psychological support to bereaved family members after their loss.

Abstract Emerging evidence has revealed a cross-talk in the etiopathogenesis of burning mouth syndrome (BMS) related to peripheral nerve fibers (NF) and neuropeptides secreted by mast cells. Here, we investigated the S-100+ density and PGP 9.5+ integrity of peripheral NF and the tryptase+ mast cell density in the oral mucosa of BMS patients and healthy individuals. A total of 23 oral mucosa specimens (12 BMS and 11 controls) were evaluated. The clinical diagnosis of BMS was based on a careful examination, excluding other local and systemic causes. Samples were taken from an incisional biopsy of the tongue mucosa of individuals with symptomatic BMS, while the margins of the non-neoplastic tongue biopsy served as controls of healthy individuals. Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine the density/mm2 of S-100+, PGP 9.5+ peripheral NF, and tryptase+ mast cells. Similar densities of S-100+, PGP 9.5+ peripheral NF, and tryptase+ mast cells were found in cases of BMS, with a median value of 3.70, 0.70, and 29.24/mm2, respectively, and in the control group, with a median value of 2.60, 0.80, and 26.01/mm2, respectively (p > 0.05). Moreover, the relationship between S100+ and PGP 9.5+ peripheral NF was the same in both groups (p = 0.70). This study demonstrated that there were no alterations in the density and integrity of peripheral NF in the tongue of symptomatic BMS patients. However, the sensitization of peripheral NF in this disease may not depend on mast cell density.

Abstract The diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis (IP) depends on clinical data, especially the chief complaint of the patient, visual inspection, response to the application of stimuli, and radiographic examination. The characterization of nerve fibers (NF) in IP may contribute to better interpret painful symptoms, but has been barely explored. This study sought to characterize the density and integrity of NF in 16 samples of IP and in five healthy pulps (HP) using S-100 and PGP 9.5 markers. Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine the density/mm2 of S-100+ and PGP 9.5+ in NF. The amount of degenerated NF was obtained by subtracting the total NF density from the amount of intact NF. Associations between NF density and integrity and symptomatology were calculated. All samples were positive for S-100 and PGP 9.5. Compared to HP samples (38.20/mm2), IP samples had a lower density of intact NF (6.24/mm2). A significantly higher density of degenerated NF was found in IP samples with spontaneous pain (39.59/mm2) compared to those with provoked pain (23.96/mm2) (p = 0.02). No association was observed between intensity of the inflammatory infiltrate and NF density and integrity (p > 0.05). The findings of this study suggest that pulpitis may involve different stages of degeneration and may be more advanced in cases with spontaneous pain. The symptoms reported by affected individuals do not appear to depend on the intensity of the inflammatory infiltrate, but rather on the integrity of NF.

Abstract The pandemic of COVID-19 demanded unprecedented efforts from psychologists to adapt to technology-mediated care. This study aimed to analyze the scientific production concerning the perception of Brazilian psychologists on online psychotherapy during the pandemic through a scoping review. We consulted four databases, while the reviewed corpus comprehended 29 studies. Psychologists identified both benefits and barriers in the transition to online psychotherapy practice, but the perception that the sparing use of this resource is valid and beneficial predominated. There is a strong perception that information and communication technologies will definitely integrate the repertoire of resources used by psychotherapists, as another relevant alternative, posing the need for further studies.

Resumo A pandemia da COVID-19 exigiu esforços sem precedentes das/os psicólogas/os para adaptação ao atendimento mediado por tecnologia. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar a produção científica acerca da percepção de psicólogas/os brasileiras/o sobre psicoterapia on-line durante a pandemia por meio de uma scoping review. Foram consultadas quatro bases de dados e o corpus revisado foi composto por 29 estudos. Psicólogas/os identificaram tanto benefícios como barreiras na transição para prática da psicoterapia on-line, porém predominou a percepção de que o uso parcimonioso deste recurso é válido e benéfico. Há forte percepção de que tecnologias da informação e comunicação integrarão, em definitivo, o repertório de recursos utilizados por psicoterapeutas, como mais uma alternativa relevante, o que coloca a necessidade de novos estudos.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.
