Abstract The incidence of premature birth has increased worldwide, unequally distributed by race/ethnicity. Racism generates economic inequalities, educational disparities, and differential access to health care, which increases the risk of preterm birth. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with preterm birth and racial and ethnic disparities in premature birth among pregnant women attending prenatal care at the Brazilian Unified Health System health units in the urban area of Santo Antônio de Jesus, Bahia, Brazil. This study used data from 938 pregnant women aged between 18 to 45 years within the NISAMI prospective cohort. Premature birth prevalence was 11.8%, with a higher prevalence among black than non-black women (12.9% versus 6.0%, respectively). Maternal age between 18 and 24 years was the only factor associated with premature birth. A higher risk of premature birth was found among black women than non-black women (RR 3.22; 95%CI 1.42-7.32). These results reveal the existence of racial and social inequalities in the occurrence of premature birth.

Resumo A incidência de parto prematuro tem aumentado em todo o mundo, distribuída de forma desigual por raça/etnia. O racismo gera desigualdades econômicas, disparidades educacionais e acesso diferenciado à saúde, o que aumenta o risco de parto prematuro. Assim, este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os fatores associados à prematuridade e disparidades raciais e étnicas no parto prematuro entre gestantes atendidas durante o pré-natal em unidades de saúde do Sistema Único de Saúde na zona urbana de Santo Antônio de Jesus, Bahia, Brasil. Este estudo utilizou dados de 938 mulheres grávidas com idade entre 18 e 45 anos dentro da coorte prospectiva do NISAMI. A prevalência de prematuridade foi de 11,8%, sendo maior entre as negras do que entre as não negras (12,9% versus 6,0%, respectivamente). A idade materna entre 18 e 24 anos foi o único fator associado ao parto prematuro. Foi encontrado maior risco de prematuridade entre as mulheres negras do que entre as não negras (RR 3,22; IC95% 1,42-7,32). Esses resultados revelam a existência de desigualdades raciais e sociais na ocorrência do parto prematuro.

Abstract This ecological study of time trends and multiple groups evaluated incompleteness in the race/colour field of Brazilian health information system records and the related time trend, 2009-2018, for the diseases and disorders most prevalent in the black population. The Romero and Cunha (2006) classification was applied in order to examine incompleteness using secondary data from Brazil’s National Notifiable Diseases System, Hospital Information System and Mortality Information System, by administrative regions of Brazil, while percentage underreporting and time trend were calculated using simple linear regression models with Prais-Winsten correction (p-value<0.05). All records scored poorly except those for mortality from external causes (excellent), tuberculosis (good) and infant mortality (fair). An overall downward trend was observed in percentage incompleteness. Analysis by region found highest mean incompleteness in the North (30.5%), Northeast (33.3%) and Midwest (33.0%) regions. The Southeast and Northeast regions showed the strongest downward trends. The findings intended to increase visibility on the implications of the race/color field for health equity.

Resumo Propõe-se avaliar a incompletude e a tendência temporal do preenchimento do campo raça/cor das doenças e agravos mais prevalentes na população negra nos Sistemas de Informação em Saúde do Brasil, 2009-2018. Trata-se de estudo ecológico de tendência temporal e múltiplos grupos. Foi adotada a classificação de Romero e Cunha (2006) para análise da incompletude e utilizados dados secundários do Sistema Nacional de Agravos de Notificação, Sistema de Informações Hospitalares e Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade do Brasil e regiões brasileiras, calculada a proporção de subnotificação e a tendência temporal, utilizando o modelo de regressão linear simples, com correção Prais-Winsten (p-valor<0,05). Excetuando-se os registros de mortalidade por causas externas (excelente), tuberculose (bom) e mortalidade infantil (regular), todos os registros apresentaram escore ruim. Observou-se tendência decrescente da proporção de incompletude. A análise por região mostrou que as maiores médias de incompletude foram registradas na região Norte (30,5%), Nordeste (33,3%) e Centro-Oeste (33,0%). As regiões Sudeste e Nordeste foram as que mais apresentaram tendência decrescente. Os resultados visam ampliar a visibilidade acerca das implicações do preenchimento do campo raça/cor para a equidade em saúde.

Abstract This ecological, time-trend study examined rates of homicide against women residing in Brazil, by state and race/colour, from 2016 to 2020, by performing. Multiple analysis by regression model on longitudinal data. During the study period, 20,405 homicides of women were recorded in Brazil. Standardised homicides rates were higher among black women (6.1/100,000) than among white women (3.4/100,000). From 2016 to 2020, rates decreased 25.2%, from 4.7 deaths per 100,000 women in 2016 to 3.5 in 2020, with a statistically significant downward trend among both black and white women. Statistically significant inverse relationships were found between female homicide rates and HDI, illiteracy rate and proportion of ill-defined causes. The average homicide rate decreased in 2019 and 2020, as compared with 2016. Despite the decreasing time trend in homicide rates for both black and white women, they differed substantially by race, with worse outcomes for black women.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar as taxas de homicídios contra mulheres residentes no Brasil, segundo unidades da federação e raça/cor, no período de 2016 a 2020. Trata-se de um estudo ecológico de tendência temporal. Foi realizada análise múltipla adotando-se modelo de regressão para dados longitudinais. No período, ocorreram no Brasil 20.405 homicídios de mulheres e as taxas padronizadas mostraram que as mulheres negras (6,1/100.000) apresentaram as maiores taxas, em comparação às brancas (3,4/100.000). O Brasil apresentou queda de 25,2% de 2016 a 2020. A taxa de homicídio variou de 4,7 mortes por 100 mil mulheres em 2016 para 3,5 em 2020, mas a tendência decrescente e estatisticamente significante foi observada nas taxas de mulheres negras e brancas. As variáveis IDH, taxa de analfabetismo e proporção de causas mal definidas apresentaram uma relação inversa e estatisticamente significante com as taxas de homicídio de mulheres. Nos anos de 2019 e 2020 houve uma diminuição da taxa média de homicídio em relação ao ano de 2016. Apesar do decrescimento na evolução temporal das taxas para negras e brancas, houve diferenças raciais importantes nos homicídios de mulheres, com piores resultados para as mulheres negras.

Abstract Mortality caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted indicators of Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) worldwide. This study aimed to estimate the YPLL due to mortality caused by COVID-19, according to sex, age group, and race/color in Brazil, from March 2020 to December 2021. Deaths caused by COVID-19 were characterized, in which the rates and ratios of standardized YPLL rates, the average number of years of potential life lost (ANYPLL), and the average age at death (AAD) were estimated and compared. Overall, 13,776,969.50 potential years of life were lost, which resulted in an average loss of 22.5 potential years not lived. A greater loss of potential years of life was identified in men (58.12%) and in the age groups from 0 to 59 years in the black (58.92%) and indigenous (63.35%) populations, while in the age groups of 60 years and over, a greater loss of YPLL was observed in the white (45.89%) and yellow (53.22%) populations. Women recorded the highest ADD, with the exception of indigenous women. White men (1.63), brown men (1.59), and black men (1.61) had the highest rates when compared to white women. Although COVID-19 has a greater impact on the elderly, it was the black and indigenous populations under the age of 60 who had the greatest loss of potential years of life.

Resumo A mortalidade provocada pela pandemia da COVID-19 tem produzido impactos aos indicadores de Anos Potenciais de Vida Perdidos (APVP) em nível mundial. Objetiva-se estimar os APVP devido à mortalidade por COVID-19, segundo sexo, faixa etária e raça/cor, no período de março de 2020 a dezembro de 2021, no Brasil. Foram caracterizadas as mortes por COVID-19, estimadas e comparadas as taxas e razão de taxas padronizadas de APVP, a média de anos potenciais de vida não vividos (APVNV) e a idade média do óbito (IMO). No geral, foram perdidos 13.776.969,50 anos potenciais de vida, o que determinou uma perda média de 22,5 anos potenciais não vividos. Houve maior perda de anos potenciais de vida nos homens (58,12%) e nas faixas etárias de 0 a 59 anos nas populações negra (58,92%) e indígena (63,35%), enquanto nas faixas etárias de 60 anos e mais foi observada maior perda de APVP nas populações branca (45,89%) e amarela (53,22%). As mulheres registraram as maiores IMO, com exceção das mulheres indígenas. Homens brancos (1,63), pardos (1,59) e pretos (1,61) tiveram as maiores taxas em comparação às mulheres brancas. Apesar da COVID-19 ter tido maior impacto em idosos, foram as populações negra e indígena na faixa de menos de 60 anos quem teve maior perda de anos potenciais de vida.

Abstract Objective: Among the mechanisms proposed for the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia is the increase in the pulmonary inflammatory process and oxidative stress. Thus, the control of this process may result in improvements in bronchopulmonary dysplasia-related outcomes. This study aims to analyze the current scientific evidence regarding the use of budesonide, a potent anti-inflammatory drug, associated with a pulmonary surfactant to prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed on the Embase and MEDLINE platforms, and studies that compared budesonide with pulmonary surfactant versus pulmonary surfactant for treating respiratory distress syndrome were included. The primary outcome was a reduction in bronchopulmonary dysplasia or death. Results: Four randomized clinical trials and two observational studies were included in this systematic review. Three of the randomized clinical trials found a reduction in bronchopulmonary dysplasia or death in the use of budesonide with the surfactant, all the other studies (1 clinical trial and 2 observational studies) found no statistical differences between the groups for the primary outcomes. The three main studies showed a reduction in the primary outcome; however, all studies showed great heterogeneity regarding the type of surfactant (poractant or beractant) and the method of administration. Conclusion: Robust clinical studies, in a heterogeneous population, using porcine surfactant associated with budesonide, with administration by a minimally invasive technique are necessary for there to be a recommendation based on scientific evidence for its widespread use.

ABSTRACT. Since the composition of honey varies with the species of bee as well as flowering and geographical aspects, this study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical and bioactive properties of Apisand stingless bees’honey from the Brazilian Caatinga. Samples of different species of Apis mellifera L.Meliponini (Melipona subnitida, Frieseomellita varia, Melipona mandacaia, Plebeia sp.) and Apis mellifera L.werecollected from honey producersin the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Honey from A. mellifera and stingless bees showed physicochemical differences in some parameters, especially in moisture, free acidity, HMF, water activity, sugars and electric conductivity. There were no differences in color between honeys from A. mellifera and stingless bees. Honeys fromPlebeia sp., F. varia and A. mellifera showed higher antioxidant capacity followed by honeys fromM. mandacaia and M. subnitida. Flavonoids had little influence on the differentiation of antioxidant activities of stingless bees, while the opposite occurred with the phenolic content, where honeys with the highest levels of phenolic also showed higher antioxidant capacity. Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar como professores de Estágio Supervisionado Obrigatório (ESO) do curso de licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas de uma universidade pública foram se constituindo professores de estágio mediante suas histórias de vida. Para tanto, investigou-se a trajetória e/ou atuação dos professores durante a pandemia. Participaram da pesquisa duas professoras de Estágio e, junto a elas, foram realizadas entrevistas, de forma on-line, pela plataforma Google Meet, em dias e horários pré-agendados. Com o fim dessa etapa, realizaram-se as transcrições dos áudios e a análise dos dados, fundamentada na análise de conteúdo. As análises proporcionaram duas unidades de registro: o Período Letivo Excepcional (PLE) e as aulas dos estágios. Abstract This article aims to analyze how teachers of Mandatory Supervised Internship (MSI) in the Licentiate Degree in Biological Sciences at a public university were becoming internship teachers through their life stories. To this end, the trajectory and/or performance of teachers during the pandemic was investigated. Two Internship teachers participated in the research and, with them; online interviews were conducted through the Google Meet platform on pre-scheduled days and times. With the end of this stage, audio transcriptions and content analysis of the data were completed. The analyses produced two recording units: the Emergency Academic Term and the internship lessons. The data allowed us to infer, among other things, that the university, the internship schools and the MSI professors were forced to reinvent themselves with synchronous and asynchronous lessons, often without adequate infrastructure. ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to systematically review the effect of resistance training with blood flow restriction on muscle strength and functional capacity of clinical populations. This research used SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE and MEDLINE/PubMed databases from the first records until November 2021 and in English. The terms (“blood flow restriction” or “vascular occlusion” or “kaatsu training” and “low intensity”) and (“strength training” or “resistance training” or “strength”) and (“clinical populations” or “elderly” or “old” or “hypertension” or “diabetes” or “myositis” or “obesity” and “chronic diseases”) and (“functional capacity” or “functionality” or “muscle function”) were used. Clinical trials (randomised and non-randomised) were included when compared to high-intensity resistance training, low-intensity resistance training, low-intensity resistance training with blood flow restriction and a control group without physical exercise. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the Testex scale. During the research, 122 articles were pre-selected and analysed, and at the end of the selection, nine articles met all the inclusion criteria and established specifications. We conclude that resistance training associated with blood flow restriction has been an effective and tolerable alternative in improving muscle strength and functional capacity and, therefore, a potential tool for the clinical population.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi revisar sistematicamente o efeito do treinamento de força com restrição de fluxo sanguíneo no ganho de força muscular e capacidade funcional de populações clínicas. Esta pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE e MEDLINE/PubMed, desde os primeiros registros até novembro de 2021 e idioma em inglês. A qualidade das evidências foi avaliada pela escala Testex. Durante a pesquisa foram pré-selecionados e analisados 122 artigos e ao final da seleção, nove artigos preencheram todos os critérios de inclusão e especificações estabelecidas. Conclui-se que o treinamento de força associado à restrição de fluxo sanguíneo tem sido uma alternativa eficaz e tolerável na melhora da força muscular e capacidade funcional e, portanto, uma ferramenta potencial para população clínica.

Resumo O estudo da maturação de sementes é determinante no conhecimento do comportamento das espécies em relação à sua reprodução, possibilitando obter a época adequada de coleta para a obtenção de material genético de boa qualidade, sementes aptas para a conservação e produção de mudas. Objetivou-se estudar o processo de maturação de sementes de Sideroxylon obtusifolium, visando determinar o ponto de maturidade fisiológica. A pesquisa foi realizada com 30 árvores-matrizes localizadas na zona rural do município de Boa Vista - PB, as quais tiveram seus frutos coletados e conduzidos para estudo no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes do Centro de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Areia - PB. Determinou-se as características físicas e fisiológicas. O delineamento estatístico empregado foi inteiramente ao acaso, com os resultados submetidos à análise de variância e regressão polinomial, em função dos períodos de coletas. O ponto de maturidade fisiológica de sementes de Sideroxylon obtusifolium ocorre entre 105 e 112 dias após a antese nas condições ambientais da área de pesquisa.

Abstract The study of seed maturation is determinant, an important way of knowing in the knowledge of the behavior of species in relation to their reproduction, making it possible to determine the appropriate time of collection to obtain genetic material of good quality, seeds suitable for the conservation and production of seedlings. The objective was to study the maturation process of Sideroxylon obtusifolium seeds, aiming to determine the physiological maturity point. The research was conducted with 30 matrix trees located in the rural area of the municipality of Boa Vista - PB, which had their fruits collected and sent for analysis by the Seed Analysis Laboratory of the Center for Agricultural Sciences, Federal University of Paraíba, Sand - PB for analysis. The following were determined: physical and physiological characteristics, water content, dry mass, germination test, first count, germination speed index and electrical conductivity of the seeds were determined. The statistical design used was completely randomized, and, with the data, results were submitted to analysis of variance and polynomial regression, as a function of the periods of the collection periods. The physiological maturity point of Sideroxylon obtusifolium seeds. Sideroxylon obtusifolium occurs between 105 and 112 days after anthesis under environmental conditions in the municipality of Boa Vista - PB of the research area.

Resumo A população de Ascomycota na serapilheira das árvores Inga edulis e Lafoensia pacari foi identificada e avaliada a sua riqueza. As coletas foram realizadas no período de outubro de 2018 a julho de 2019. Foram coletadas 20 folhas caídas em diferentes estágios de decomposição. As amostras de folhas foram cuidadosamente lavadas em água corrente e incubadas em câmaras úmidas. As estruturas do fungo foram montadas em resina PVLG e observadas ao microscópio de luz. A identificação foi realizada consultando a literatura específica. A riqueza total foi de 48 espécies e 36 gêneros correspondendo a 58,33% em I. edulis e 60,41% em L. pacari. A maioria dos táxons possui freqüência esporádica e constância acidental. Houve baixa similaridade entre as espécies de plantas. Inga edulis e L. pacari possuem grandes populações de Ascomycota na separilheira delas. A riqueza, freqüência, constância e similaridade dessas populações variaram pouco em função da época de coleta, clima e planta hospedeira. A baixa riqueza observada na segunda coleta pode refletir o efeito da menor umidade observada naquela época do ano.

Abstract The Ascomycota population in the litter of Inga edulis and Lafoensia pacari trees was identified and its richness was evaluated. The collections were carried out from October 2018 to July 2019. Twenty fallen leaves were collected in different stages of decomposition. The leaf samples were carefully washed in running water and incubated in humid chambers. The fungal structures were mounted in PVLG resin and observed under a light microscope. The identification was done by consulting the specific literature. Distribution studies included richness, frequency, constancy, and similarity of the fungal populations. The total richness was 48 species and 36 genera corresponding to 58.33% in I. edulis and 60.41% in L. pacari. Most taxa had sporadic frequency and accidental constancy. There was low similarity between plant species. Ascomycota populations are well represented in Inga edulis and Lafoensia pacari litter. Richness, frequency, constancy, and similarity of these populations varied little in function of the collection date, climate and host plant. Lower richness observed in the second collection may reflect the effect of reduced humidity observed in that time of the year.

Abstract The present study evaluated 56 patients diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and a control group of 44 clinically healthy subjects with no previous history of leukemia. Genetic expressions of AKT and microRNAs were evaluated by quantitative PCR (qPCR). A significant increase in AKT gene expression in patients when compared to controls was observed (p = 0.017). When the patients were stratified according to Binet subgroups, a significant difference was observed between the subgroups, with this protein kinase appearing more expressed in the B+C subgroup (p = 0.013). Regarding miRNA expression, miR-let-7b and miR-26a were reduced in CLL patients, when compared to controls. However, no significant differences were observed in these microRNA expressions between the Binet subgroups (A versus B+C). By contrast, miR-21 to miR-27a oncogenes showed no expression difference between CLL patients and controls. AKT protein kinase is involved in the signaling cascade that occurs with BCR receptor activation, leading to increased lymphocyte survival and protection against the induction of cell death in CLL. Thus, increased AKT protein kinase expression and the reduction of miR-let-7b and miR-26a, both tumor suppressors, may explain increased lymphocyte survival in CLL patients and may be promising markers for the prognostic evaluation of this disease.

Resumo Introdução: poucos estudos buscam evidenciar as diferenças raciais e o impacto social das mortes precoces decorrentes do trabalho, o que contribui para a inexistência de políticas públicas que objetivem superar essas desigualdades. Objetivo: analisar a tendência temporal das Taxas de Anos Potenciais de Vida Perdidos (TAPVP) decorrentes de acidentes de trabalho, segundo raça/cor da pele no estado da Bahia, de 2000 a 2019. Métodos: estudo de série temporal, com base em dados do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (SIM); consideraram-se os óbitos por acidentes de trabalho. Empregou-se o modelo de regressão linear pelo método Joinpoint para análise da série temporal e o cálculo da Variação Percentual Anual (VPA) das TAPVP. Resultados: foram notificados 2.137 óbitos por acidentes de trabalho no período estudado, correspondentes a 64.791,5 APVP, dos quais 74,2% envolveram trabalhadores da raça/cor da pele parda. Destaca-se que a VPA das TAPVP entre trabalhadores pardos e negros foi, respectivamente, 2,3 e 3,0 vezes a VPA dos trabalhadores brancos. Os trabalhadores pardos morreram mais precocemente e tiveram maior perda de anos potenciais de vida em quantidade e maior velocidade de crescimento da TAPVP, comparados com os trabalhadores brancos. Conclusão: a mortalidade precoce por acidentes de trabalho representa um relevante problema de saúde pública, destacando-se entre trabalhadores não-brancos.

Abstract Introduction: few studies seek to highlight racial differences and the social impact of early deaths resulting from work, which contributes to the lack of public policies that aim to overcome these inequalities. Objective: to analyze the time trend of Potential Years of Life Lost (PYLL) rates resulting from occupational accidents, according to race/skin color in Bahia, Brazil, from 2000 to 2019. Methods: a time series study was conducted using data collected from the Brazilian Mortality Information System (SIM). Only deaths from work-related accidents were included. Joinpoint linear regression was used to analyze the times series; the PYLL rates were estimated by annual percentage change. Results: the state of Bahia notified 2,137 deaths due to work-related accidents in the studied period, corresponding to a 64,791.5 PYLL, of which 74.2% involved black/brown skin workers. PYLL rates among brown and black workers was, respectively, 2.3 and 3.0 times that of white workers. Brown workers died earlier and had greater loss of PYLL, in quantity, and higher growth speed of the PYLL rates, when compared with white workers. Conclusion: early mortality due to occupational accidents constitute a relevant public health issue, especially among non-white workers.

Abstract Curcumin, contained at Turmeric (Curcumalonga), can exert many beneficial pleiotropic activities in the gastrointestinal tract. This study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of C. longa on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced oral mucositis (OM) in hamsters. Phytochemical analysis of crude C. longa extract (CLE) was performed to detect the presence of curcumin by TLC and HPLC. Golden Syrian hamsters were orally pre-treated with CLE (5, 50, or 100mg/kg). Cheek pouch samples were subjected to macroscopic and histopathological evaluation. ELISA was performed to quantify the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were assessed by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy analysis. Behavior analysis was conducted by the open field test. Curcumin content in the CLE was 0.55%m/m ± 0.0161 (2.84%). The group treated with 5mg/kg CLE showed healing evidence with macroscopic absence of ulceration (p<0.05) and microscopic aspect of re-epithelialization, discrete inflammatory infiltrate and absence of edema. Treatment with 5mg/kg CLE significantly increased GSH levels, and reduced MDA levels and SOD activity (p˂0.05), and decreased IL-1β (p˂0.05) and TNF-α (p˂0.01) levels. A significant reduction in walking distance, ambulation, speed, and rearing was observed for motor activity. Curcumin reduced oxidative stress, inflammation, and motor activity in hamsters with 5-FU-induced OM.

Resumen Sensores asociados con la placa Arduino pueden ser una alternativa a los sensores tradicionalmente usados. El objetivo de este trabajo fue calibrar un sensor capacitivo para medir la humedad del suelo y determine la curva de retención de agua (<100 kPa) utilizando el transductor de presión MPX5100DP junto con las mediciones del sensor capacitivo. El suelo utilizado fue Oxisol Rojo, arcilloso, densidad de 1,20 Mg m-3. El modelo y=a-bcx se ajustó a los datos del sensor capacitivo en el cual los parámetros estadísticos fueron 9% (MAPE), 0.025 (RMSE), 0.97 (d) y 0.93 (R2). El error entre las curvas de retención obtenidas con el sensor capacitivo y las obtenidas por pesaje fue de 0.025 (RMSE). A pesar de la tendencia del sensor capacitivo a subestimar los valores más por arriba de humedad del suelo, estos sensores pueden ser una alternativa para medir la humedad del suelo y la tensión del agua.

Abstract Sensors associated with the Arduino board can be an alternative to traditional sensors. The objective of this study was to calibrate a capacitive sensor to measure soil moisture and determine the soil water retention curve (< 100 kPa) using the MPX5100DP pressure transducer in conjunction with capacitive sensor measurements. The soil used was Red Oxisol, which had a clay texture and a bulk density of 1.20 Mg m-3. The model y=a-bcx was fitted to the capacitive sensor data, which had the following statistical parameters: 9% (MAPE, mean absolute percentage error), 0.025 (RMSE, root-mean-square error), 0.97 (d), and 0.93 (R2). In general, the error for the retention curves obtained with the capacitive sensor and that obtained by weighing was 0.025 (RMSE). Despite the slight tendency of the capacitive sensor to underestimate the highest values of soil moisture, these sensors can be used as an alternative for measuring soil moisture and water tension.
