RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a sazonalidade da bronquiolite aguda no Brasil durante a temporada 2020–2022 e compará-la com a das temporadas anteriores. Métodos: Os dados de incidência de internações por bronquiolite aguda em lactentes <1 ano de idade foram obtidos do Departamento de Informática da base de dados da Saúde Pública Brasileira para o período entre 2016 e 2022. Esses dados também foram analisados por macrorregiões do Brasil (Norte, Nordeste, Sudeste, Sul e Centro-Oeste). Para descrever características sazonais e de tendência ao longo do tempo, utilizamos o Modelo de Médias Móveis Integradas Autorregressivas Sazonais. Resultados: Em comparação com o período pré-COVID-19, a incidência de hospitalizações relacionadas com bronquiolite aguda diminuiu 97% durante as intervenções não farmacológicas (março de 2020 – agosto de 2021), mas aumentou 95% após a flexibilização das intervenções não farmacológicas (setembro de 2021 – dezembro de 2022), resultando no aumento geral de 16%. Durante o período pré-COVID-19, as hospitalizações por bronquiolite aguda seguiram um padrão sazonal, que foi interrompido em 2020–2021, mas recuperaram-se em 2022, com um pico ocorrido em maio, aproximadamente 4% superior ao pico pré-COVID-19. Conclusões: Este estudo ressalta a influência significativa das intervenções contra a COVID-19 nas hospitalizações por bronquiolite aguda no Brasil. A restauração de um padrão sazonal em 2022 sublinha a interação entre as medidas de saúde pública e a dinâmica das doenças respiratórias em crianças pequenas. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the seasonality of acute bronchiolitis in Brazil during the 2020–2022 season and compare it with the previous seasons. Methods: Data from the incidence of hospitalizations due to acute bronchiolitis in infants <1 year of age were obtained from the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Public Health database for the period between 2016 and 2022. These data were also analyzed by macro-regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Southeast, South, and Midwest). To describe seasonal and trend characteristics over time, we used the Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Averages Model. Results: Compared to the pre-COVID-19 period, the incidence of hospitalizations related to acute bronchiolitis decreased by 97% during non-pharmacological interventions (March 2020 – August 2021) but increased by 95% after non-pharmacological interventions relaxation (September 2021 – December 2022), resulting in a 16% overall increase. During the pre-COVID-19 period, hospitalizations for acute bronchiolitis followed a seasonal pattern, which was disrupted in 2020–2021 but recovered in 2022, with a peak occurring in May, approximately 4% higher than the pre-COVID-19 peak. Conclusions: This study underscores the significant influence of COVID-19 interventions on acute bronchiolitis hospitalizations in Brazil. Abstract To evaluate the impact of genetic polymorphisms in interleukins (IL1A rs17561, rs1304037; IL10 rs1800871; IL1RN rs9005), nitric oxide (NOS2 rs2779249, rs2897518) and suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS1 rs243327, rs33977706) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of patients under-going root canal treatment (RCT). Methods: The sample consisted of 108 participants, presenting single-rooted teeth with asymptomatic periapical periodontitis. The impact of the OHRQoL was recorded using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) before, seven, and 30 days after RCT. Saliva samples were collected as a source of genomic DNA. Genetic polymorphisms were genotyped by Real-Time PCR using the Taqman method. Univariate and Multivariate analyses were used (p<0.05). Results: A significant difference was observed for the polymorphism rs2297518 in the NOS2 gene in functional limitation in the codominant (p=0.037) and recessive (p=0.001) models; in the physical pain (p<0.001 in both models); in psychological discomfort (p<0.001 in both models); in physical disability (p<0.001 in both models) and in psychological disability (p<0.001 in both models). Resumo Avaliar o impacto de polimorfismos genéticos em interleucinas (IL1A rs17561, rs1304037; IL10 rs1800871; IL1RN rs9005), óxido nítrico (NOS2 rs2779249, rs2897518) e supressor da sinalização de citocinas (SOCS1 rs243327, rs33977706) na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal (QVRSB) de pacientes submetidos a tratamento endodôntico (TE). Métodos: A amostra foi composta por 108 participantes, que apresentavam dentes unirradiculares com lesão periapical assintomática. O impacto da QVRSB foi registrado usando o Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) antes, sete e 30 dias após o TE. Amostras de saliva foram coletadas como fonte de DNA genômico. Os polimorfismos genéticos foram genotipados por PCR em tempo real usando o método Taqman. Análises univariadas e multivariadas foram utilizadas (p<0,05). Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate whether polymorphisms in SOD2 and SOD3 genes modulate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of Para athletes with dental caries experience. The cross-sectional study included 264 Para athletes (143 in athletics, 61 in weightlifting and 60 in swimming). A trained and calibrated team recorded the decayed, missing and filled teeth index (DMFT). The Brazilian version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) was used to measure OHRQoL. Genomic DNA was extracted from the athletes’ saliva, and genetic polymorphisms in the SOD2 (rs5746136 and rs10370) and SOD3 (rs2855262 and rs13306703) genes were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed. A multivariate General Linear Model analysis, adjusted for sex, revealed that the SOD3 gene polymorphism (rs2855262) had a significant effect on the psychological disability domain [codominant (p = 0.045) and recessive (p=0.038) models]. The SOD2 gene polymorphism (rs5746136) had a significant effect on the total OHIP-14 score [dominant model (p = 0.038)] and the psychological discomfort [dominant model (p = 0.034)] and physical disability [codominant model (p=0.037)] domains. Presence of the SOD2 rs10370 polymorphism led to statistical differences in the total score [codominant (p = 0.026) and dominant (p = 0.023) models] and the handicap domain scores [codominant (p = 0.027) and dominant (p = 0.032) models]. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the influence of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) on the bond strength of adhesive restorative materials to healthy and caries-affected dentin. Material and Methods: 04 electronic databases and 02 additional searches were assessed. In vitro studies considering sound or caries-affected human or bovine dentin (population), use of aPDT before restorative treatment (intervention), use of other dentin disinfection techniques (comparison), and bond strength to dentin (outcome) were included. The risk of bias for in vitro studies was used as a method to check the evidence. The method used to present and synthesize results was data extraction. Results: The total number of included studies was 11, including 550 permanent teeth. Bond strength was evaluated mainly through the shear bond strength (SBS) test, with dentin affected by caries being the substrate most frequently used in studies. Six studies demonstrated that aPDT with methylene blue (MB) negatively affected the SBS values of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) to dentin. Regarding risk of bias assessment, all studies were at high risk of bias. Conclusion: The effects of aPDT on adhesion to dentin vary depending on the type of substrate and the photosensitizer used. Mainly, MB negatively affected the SBS values from RMGIC to dentin. The conclusion should be interpreted considering the high risk of bias in the studies. ABSTRACT Objective: To perform a bibliometric analysis on deciduous and permanent eruption publications to discuss the global trends and prospects on the topic. Material and Methods: A systematic search was conducted on the Scopus database. The characteristics of the publications, including co-cited authors, organizations, countries, most cited sources, publications, and keyword co-occurrence, were analyzed using VOSviewer software version 1.6.18. Results: After applying exclusion criteria, 492 studies were included in the analysis. The majority of research centers were located in Europe. "Archives of Oral Biology" emerged as the most frequently cited journal. The United States and Brazil were the most frequently cited countries in the publications. Notable co-authors included Kuchler E. C. and Hägg U. The most frequently cited keywords were associated with oral pathologies, tooth development, odontogenesis, and genetics. The most recent papers were published in journals focused on oral diseases. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis highlights that the future of research in this field is likely to be focused on the investigation of tooth eruption in both deciduous and permanent teeth, with an emphasis on genetics, tooth development, timing of tooth eruption, and syndromic conditions. Abstract Introduction: Postoperative nausea and vomiting is still a common complication. Serotonin receptor antagonists are commonly used in clinical practice for antiemetic prophylaxis. Interin-dividual variations in drug response, including single nucleotide polymorphisms, are related to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes in these drugs and may lead to a poor therapeutic response. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of CYP2D6 isoenzyme and ABCB1 gene polymorphisms on the frequency of postoperative nausea and vomiting with the use of ondansetron or palonosetron. Methods: A randomized, double-blind clinical trial including 82 women aged 60 years or over undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy was conducted. Patients were randomized to receive either ondansetron or palonosetron for postoperative nausea and vomiting prophylaxis. DNA was extracted from saliva. Genetic polymorphisms were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The following polymorphisms were analyzed: rs3892097 C/T, rs1128503 A/G, rs16947A/G, rs1065852 A/G, rs1045642 A/G, rs2032582 C/A, and rs20325821 C/A. Results: Overall, vomiting, and severe nausea occurred in 22.5% and 57.5% of patients, respectively. In the palonosetron group, patients with the GG genotype (rs16947 A/G) experienced more severe nausea (p = 0.043). In the ondansetron group, patients with the M genotype (rs16947 A/G) presented mild nausea (p = 0.034), and those with the AA genotype (rs1065852 A/G) experienced more vomiting (p = 0.034). ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the impact of endodontic treatment with photobiomodulation on oral health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Material and Methods: Seventy participants with single-rooted teeth and a diagnosis of asymptomatic apical periodontitis were selected and randomized into two groups: control group (CG, n = 35), root canal treatment without additional treatment, and experimental group (EG, n = 35), root canal treatment associated with antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and low-level laser therapy. OHRQoL was assessed using the Oral Health Impact Profile Questionnaire (OHIP-14) at baseline and 7 and 30 days after treatment. Data were subjected to Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney tests, and linear regression using the generalized estimating equation model, using the Statistical Package for Social Science software with a significance level of 5%. Results: No statistically significant differences were found between groups regarding sociodemographic and clinical characteristics (p>0.05). There was also no difference in the OHRQoL between the CG and EG (p>0.05). However, there was a statistical difference in OHIP-14 scores between baseline and the 7- and 30-day follow-up intervals in both groups for all domains (p<0.05). Métodos: Foram pesquisadas publicações na base de dados Scopus (março de 2023) para incluir estudos que abordassem a associação entre polimorfismos genéticos e EARR. Foram considerados elegíveis estudos de caso-controle, relatos de caso, coorte, transversais e revisões. Para análise dos dados, foram utilizados os softwares VOS viewer® e Bibliometrix. Resultados: Dos 44 estudos incluídos, Iglesias-Linares A foi o autor mais citado. A Universidade de Sevilha (Espanha) foi a instituição que mais pesquisou o tema. ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to analyze the scientific production of genetic polymorphisms and external apical root resorption (EARR) to establish main findings, geographic trends, and research gaps for possible future investigations. Methods: Unrestricted publications were searched using the Scopus database (March 2023) to include studies that addressed the association between genetic polymorphisms and EARR. Case-control, cohort, cross-sectional, and review studies were considered eligible. The softwares VOS viewer™ and Bibliometrix were used for data analysis. Results: Of the 44 studies analyzed, “Iglesias-Linares A” was the most cited author. The University of Seville (Spain) conducted the most research on this topic. Brazil, Spain, and the USA were the leading countries in terms of citations. The most frequent term in the co-occurrence of keywords was “EARR.” The journal American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics presented a great relevance in the area, demonstrating a high number of publications. ABSTRACT Objective: To compare postoperative pain, tenderness, edema, and medication use after foraminal enlargement in a single visit, using 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 2% chlorhexidine gel (CHX). Material and Methods: Seventy patients with single-rooted teeth with apical periodontitis were randomized into two groups according to the irrigation protocol: control (NaOCl - 35 patients) and case (CHX - 35 patients). Pain intensity was assessed using the visual analog scale (recorded every day for seven days, on the 14th and 30th days after treatment). Edema was assessed by two independent evaluators on the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th days after treatment using photographs. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's Exact, and Mann-Whitney U tests in SPSS. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in postoperative pain and tenderness between the groups on the 2nd day (p<0.05). There was no difference between the groups for edema (p=1.00) and use of medication (p=0.77). Abstract This systematic review aimed to answer the following question: What is the estimated prevalence of pulp canal obliteration in subtypes of traumatic dental injury (TDI) in deciduous and permanent teeth? The searches were conducted in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, Grey Literature, and Google Scholar, and complemented by a manual search, until April 16th, 2023. Observational studies were selected based on population, exposure, and outcome (PEO) (P, deciduous or permanent teeth; E, TDI; O, pulp canal obliteration). Two reviewers (kappa 0.90) applied the eligibility criteria, extracted qualitative data, and assessed the methodological quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa tool. A meta-analysis was performed using MedCalc 17.2. Thirty-four articles were selected after screening. The methodological quality was moderate to high. The estimated prevalence of pulp canal obliteration was 27.6% (95%CI: 18.7–37.7) and 21.9% (95%CI:16.0–28.4), for permanent and deciduous teeth, respectively. Considering the TDI subtypes, the prevalence of pulp canal obliteration was higher in root fractures of the permanent teeth (78.6 %, 95%CI: 62.8–90.9) and lateral luxation injuries in deciduous teeth (29.4%, 95%CI:19.1–41.0). Our review of 34 articles of moderate and high methodological quality found that the prevalence of pulpal canal obliteration ranges from 21.9% to 27.6%. This study aims to understand the global panorama of ankyloglossia in newborns by means of a bibliometric analysis of scientific productions up to January 2023. A search was conducted with the terms Newborn, Ankyloglossia and their synonyms in the Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, Virtual Health Library, Web of Science and Scopus platforms. After removing duplicates and applying the eligibility criteria, 431 studies were included and imported into the VOSviwer software. The most cited keywords were Surgery (198) and Breastfeeding (151). Among the 49 countries surveyed, the United States published the most on the subject (107). The most relevant study in the studied portfolio was Ankyloglossia: assessment, incidence, and effect of frenuloplasty on the breastfeeding dyad by Ballard and collaborators. The journal Pediatrics obtained the highest number of citations (608) and year 2019 recorded the most articles about ankyloglossia in newborns (44). The findings of this study show that the topic linked to oral brakes has sparked a growing interest in the scientific community, and show the concern in unveiling the real impact of ankyloglossia on the infant's breastfeeding, as well as the need to seek a consensus in diagnosis regarding surgical indication.

Este trabalho buscou mapear o panorama global da anquiloglossia em recém-nascidos por meio da análise bibliométrica de produções científicas até janeiro de 2023. Para obtenção dos estudos, foi realizada uma busca avançada com os termos “Newborn”, “Ankyloglossia” e seus sinônimos nas plataformas Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, Web of Science e Scopus. Os resultados foram importados para o gerenciador de referência Zotero. Após a remoção das duplicatas e aplicação dos critérios de elegibilidade, 431 estudos foram incluídos na análise e importados para o software VOSviwer versão 16.18. As palavras-chave mais citadas na pesquisa foram “Cirurgia” (198) e “Aleitamento” (151), que também apresentaram forte ligação entre si. Dentre os 49 países pesquisados, os Estados Unidos, o Reino Unido e a Austrália foram os que mais publicaram sobre o assunto, com 107, 44 e 28, respectivamente. O estudo mais relevante no portfólio estudado foi escrito por Ballard e colaboradores sob o título “Ankyloglossia: assessment, incidence, and effect of frenuloplasty on the breastfeeding dyad”. A revista “Pediatrics” obteve o maior número de citações (608) e ano de 2019 registrou a maior quantidade de artigos sobre a anquiloglossia em recém-nascidos (44). Os achados deste estudo demonstram que a temática ligada aos freios orais tem despertado um interesse crescente na comunidade científica e evidenciam a preocupação em desvendar o impacto real da anquiloglossia na amamentação do bebê, assim como a necessidade de buscar um consenso no diagnóstico em relação à indicação cirúrgica.

Abstract This study aimed to assess whether genetic polymorphisms in MTR and MTRR are potential biomarkers of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children with caries. A cross-sectional study was designed wherein pairs of parents/caregivers and children (aged two–five years) were selected. Clinical examination was used to detect dental caries, which were classified as low-severity and high-severity caries. The Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) questionnaire was used to assess OHRQoL. Genomic DNA extracted from the saliva was used to analyze two missense genetic polymorphisms: MTR (rs1805087) and MTRR (rs1801394). Mann–Whitney non-parametric test was used to analyze candidate genes with OHRQoL scale and domain, with a significance level of p≤0.05. MTR (rs1805087) was found associated (p = 0.05) with children’s OHRQoL subscale scores in the dominant model (GG + AG). Genetic polymorphisms in MTR may increase the risk of poor OHRQoL in children with caries. Abstract The objective of this work was to select maize hybrids using the GGE biplot analysis, as well as to evaluate their stability and adaptability in different environments of the North and Midwest regions of Brazil. Thirty-six maize hybrids were evaluated in 2018, in the following five environments in the Northern and Midwestern regions, respectively: in the municipality of Vilhena, in the state of Rondônia; and in the municipalities of Sorriso, Sinop, Alta Floresta, and Carlinda, in the Northern region of the state of Mato Grosso. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design. The analysis of variance was performed, and adaptability and stability were estimated by the GGE biplot method based on grain yield performance. A significant interaction between genotypes and environments was detected, and the biplot analysis was efficient in explaining 62.74% of the total variation in the first two principal components, with the formation of three macroenvironments. The 1P2227, 'BRS 3042', and 1P2265 hybrids showed high yield, responsiveness, and stability in the evaluated environments. The DKB310VTPRO2 hybrid was the most unstable genotype. The recommended hybrids are: DKB310 for the Sorriso and Vilhena macroenvironment; 1M1810 and 1O2106 for the Carlinda environment; and 1M1807 for the Sinop environment. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar híbridos de milho, por meio da análise GGE biplot, bem como avaliar sua estabilidade e adaptabilidade em diferentes ambientes das regiões Centro-Oeste e Norte do Brasil. Trinta e seis híbridos de milho foram avaliados em 2018, nos seguintes cinco ambientes das regiões Norte e Centro-Oeste, respectivamente: no município de Vilhena, no estado de Rondônia; e nos municípios de Sorriso, Sinop, Alta Floresta e Carlinda, na região norte do estado de Mato Grosso. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos completos ao acaso. Realizou-se a análise de variância, e estimaramse a adaptabilidade e a estabilidade pelo método GGE biplot com base na produtividade. Detectou-se interação significativa entre genótipos e ambientes, e a análise biplot foi eficiente para explicar 62,74% da variação total nos dois primeiros componentes principais, com a formação de três macroambientes. Os híbridos 1P2227, 'BRS 3042' e 1P2265 apresentam alta produtividade, capacidade de resposta e estabilidade nos ambientes avaliados. O híbrido DKB310VTPRO2 foi o genótipo mais instável. Abstract An increasing number of systematic reviews (SR) has investigated the association between dental caries and nutritional status in children and adolescents, thus requiring an overview to compile the information in a single piece of evidence. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate and summarize evidence from published SR on the association between dental caries and nutritional status in children and adolescents. A wide search was conducted on May 29, 2023, in six databases (Medline via PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane library, Embase, and the Virtual Health Library – VHL). An additional search was performed in the gray literature (Open grey and Google Scholar), SR registration databases, and the list of references of the included SR. Our inclusion criteria were based on acronym PECOS. Overall, two reviewers independently extracted the data, evaluated the risk of bias (ROBIS), and assessed the quality of the chosen studies (AMSTAR-2). Data from the included meta-analysis were summarized and certainty of evidence using the GRADE approach was performed. After removing duplicates and applying our eligibility criteria, 19 SR from 2006-2022 were included. We found that 17 SR showed high risk of bias and critically low methodological quality. We observed an association between dental caries experiences and nutritional status since seven SR found an association between obesity/overweight and dental caries; one, an association between underweight and dental caries; and eleven, no associations. The meta-analysis showed divergent results according to the study designs, used indices, and participants’ age group, and were scored as having a very low certainty of evidence. Therefore, based on the high risk of bias, low methodological quality, and very low certainty of evidence of the chosen SR, most studies found no association between children and adolescents’ nutritional status and dental caries experience. Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a associação das variáveis idade, sexo, posição no arco, comprimento do dente, amplitude do canal radicular e tamanho da lesão periapical com a ocorrência de sinais e sintomas pós-operatórios (dor, dor ao toque e edema) e o uso de analgésicos após o tratamento endodôntico com alargamento foraminal em dentes uniradiculares com lesão periapical. Este estudo longitudinal prospectivo incluiu 105 pacientes que necessitavam de tratamento endodôntico em dentes uniradiculares superiores ou inferiores com lesão periapical. Após o tratamento do canal radicular em uma sessão, a intensidade da dor e a dor ao toque foram registradas diariamente por 7 dias e nos dias 14 e 30. O edema foi avaliado por dois avaliadores independentes dentro de 48 h, 72 h e 7 dias após o tratamento. Foram realizadas regressões ordinal e logística, e a significância estatística foi fixada em um valor de p < 0,05. Gênero feminino (beta = 1,02; p < 0.01), dentes inferiores (beta = 25,50; p < 0.01), amplitude média do canal radicular (beta = 0,93; p = 0,03) e edema (beta = 1,88; p < 0.01) foram associados ao aumento da dor e dor ao toque pós-operatória, enquanto o uso de analgésicos (beta = -1,82; p < 0.01) e o tempo em dias (beta = -0,23; p < 0.01) foram associados à diminuição desses sinais e sintomas. O edema foi considerado fator de risco para necessidade de analgésico (Odds Ratio [OR] = 61,46; p < 0.01). Fatores como sexo, posição do arco e amplitude do canal radicular foram associados aos sinais e sintomas pós-operatórios. O uso de analgésicos foi mais necessário no edema e foi associado à diminuição da dor.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the association of the variables age, gender, arch position, tooth length, root canal amplitude, and periapical lesion size with the occurrence of postoperative signs and symptoms (pain, tenderness, and edema) and the use of postoperative analgesics following root canal treatment with foraminal enlargement in single-rooted teeth with apical periodontitis. This prospective longitudinal study included 105 patients requiring root canal treatment of maxillary or mandibular single-rooted teeth with periapical lesion. After root canal treatment in a single session, pain intensity and tenderness were recorded daily for 7 days and on days 14 and 30. Edema was evaluated by two independent evaluators within 48 h, 72 h, and 7 days after treatment. Ordinal and logistic regressions were performed (p < 0.05).
