RESUMO A análise do líquido cefalorraquidiano (LCR) é uma importante ferramenta no diagnóstico das doenças neurológicas dos bovinos. A coleta do LCR em diferentes momentos facilita o monitoramento do quadro clínico e/ou a avaliação da eficácia de tratamentos estabelecidos. Todavia, os efeitos de coletas consecutivas sobre os parâmetros citológicos e bioquímicos do LCR de bovinos saudáveis ainda não foram analisados. Dessa forma, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar potenciais diferenças citológicas e bioquímicas no LCR de bovinos sadios, obtidos em dois momentos, com intervalo de 96 horas. O LCR foi submetido à análise citológica e à determinação do teor de proteína total. Na segunda coleta, verificou-se aumento significativo da celularidade, porém ainda dentro do intervalo de referência para a espécie, diminuição de linfócitos e elevação de células mononucleares em relação à primeira coleta. No entanto, os números de hemácias (/µL), células nucleadas (/µL), neutrófilos (%), eosinófilos (%) e a concentração da proteína total (mg/dL) continuaram dentro dos valores de referência 96 horas após a realização da primeira punção. Conclui-se que os procedimentos de coleta de LCR consecutivos não provocaram inflamação local detectável 96 horas após a primeira punção, o que sugere que, quando necessário, coletas de LCR seriadas, por si só, não interfeririam nos resultados do exame.

ABSTRACT The analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is important for the diagnosis of neurological diseases in cattle. However, the effect of consecutive collections on the cytological and biochemical parameters of the CSF has not been evaluated yet. The objective of the present study was to evaluate potential differences on the cytological and biochemical analysis of CSF obtained from healthy cattle at two sampling times with 96 hours of interval in between. Total and differential cell counts, and total protein concentration were analyzed in the CSF. Increased cellularity and significant reduction of lymphocyte and elevated numbers of mononuclear cells were observed on the second collection. However, erythrocyte count (/µl), total leukocyte count (/µl), neutrophils (%), eosinophils (%) and total protein concentration (mg/dl) remained within the reference range 96 hours after the completion of the first puncture. In conclusion, consecutive CSF collections cause no detectable local inflammation 96 hours after the first puncture suggesting that repeated collections do not interfere in the CSF results.

O objetivo deste trabalho, relacionado a produção orgânica, utilizou preparados homeopáticos visando incremento na biomassa e no teor de flavonóides em plantas dióicas de carqueja. Os tratamentos foram: controle com água, controle com álcool 70%, Phosphorus 12CH, Sulphur 6CH, e a combinação destas homeopatias. Variações fenotípicas foram registradas a partir da análise de crescimento, realizada quinzenalmente durante 60 dias e dos caracteres morfológicos, tais como: como altura, número de ramificações, comprimento do ramo principal, diâmetro do caule e ala caulinar mediana. Na colheita foram medidos: a fitomassa fresca/seca e o volume de raiz. Posteriormente, foi quantificado o teor de flavonóides totais conforme as análises prescritas pela Farmacopéia Brasileira. O experimento foi avaliado em delineamento de blocos casualizados (2x5x2), sendo suas médias avaliadas pelo teste Tukey e o coeficiente de variação ambiental para estimar a plasticidade. Quanto ao estudo do crescimento da planta ao longo do tempo, verificou-se aumento linear simples para a maioria das variáveis nos dois sexos. Foram detectadas respostas plásticas na maioria dos caracteres avaliados. De acordo com os resultados, em ambos os sexos, 60 dias de cultivo são suficientes para obtenção de matéria prima com teor aceitável de flavonóides, bem como para verificação dos efeitos de patogenesia e similitude na aplicação de preparados homeopáticos Phosphorus 12CH, Sulphur 6CH e sua combinação Phosphorus 12CH + Sulphur 6CH. A fitomassa e o teor de flavonóides totais foram semelhantes entre plantas dióicas durante o período de estudo.

This study looked at organic production, in addition to the use of homeopathic preparations, in order to increase biomass and flavonoid content in dioecious plants of Baccharis genistelloides. The adopted treatments were: water control, control with 70% alcohol, Phosphorus 12CH, Sulphur 6CH and a combination of them. Phenotypic changes were recorded for the growth analysis, performed biweekly for 60 days, of the morphological features, such as height, number of branches, length of the main branch, diameter of the stem and median stem wing. At harvest, we measured the fresh/dry phytomass and root volume. Subsequently, we quantified the content of total flavonoids according to the analyses required by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. The experiment was evaluated in a randomized block design, and its averages were evaluated by the Tukey's test and environmental variation coefficient to estimate plasticity. As for the study of plant growth over time, there was a simple linear increase for most of the variables in both genders. We could detect phenotypic plasticity traits in most features analyzed. According to these results in both genders, 60 days after inoculation are sufficient to obtain raw material with acceptable level of flavonoids, as well as pathogenesis and similar effects in the application of homeopathic preparations of Phosphorus 12CH, Sulphur 6CH and their combination. Phytomass and content of total flavonoids were similar between the dioecious plants during the study period.

Dentre as culturas irrigadas o abacaxi vem-se destacando por sua importância econômica e social. É uma cultura exigente em tratos culturais dentre os quais a irrigação exerce forte influência na produção e qualidade dos frutos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os valores dos coeficientes de cultura e evapotranspiração do abacaxizeiro irrigado e cultivado em Uberaba, MG. O experimento foi conduzido no setor de Fruticultura do IFTM, campus Uberaba, MG. A cultivar utilizada foi a Smooth Cayenne. A irrigação foi realizada por tubogotejadores de duas formas: enterrados e superficiais. Para estimativa da evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) foi utilizada a equação de Penman-Monteith e para obtenção da evapotranspiração da cultura (ETc) o balanço de água no solo. Dentre os resultados verifica-se que o maior valor de evapotranspiração da cultura foi de aproximadamente 6,8 mm; os valores de ETc médios encontrados quando a irrigação foi efetuada com tubogotejadores enterrados e superficiais foram, respectivamente, de 2,88 e 3,37 mm; os valores médios de coeficientes de cultura foram de 0,97 (tubogotejador enterrado) e 0,91 (tubogotejador superficial) para todo o ciclo do abacaxi.

Among the irrigated crops, the pineapple stand out for both its economic and social importance. It is a crop demanding in cultural practices, among which irrigation exercises strong influence upon the production and quality of fruits.The purpose of this study was to determine the values of the crop coefficients and evapotranspiration of the pineapple crop in Uberaba, MG. The experiment was conducted in the Fruit Crops Sector of "Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Triângulo Mineiro, campus Uberaba", MG. The cultivar used was Smooth Cayenne. Irrigation was carried out through driplines in two manners: buried and surface. For the estimate of the reference evapotranspiration (ETo), the Penman-Monteith equation was utilized and for obtaining the crop evapotranspiration (ETc), the soil water balance was used. Among the results, the highest value of evapotranspiration of the crop was about 6.8 mm; the values of mean ETc found when irrigation was performed with buried and surface driplines were respectively of 2.88 and 3.37 mm and when the irrigation was performed with surface and buried piping, respectively; the mean values of crop coefficient were of 0.97 (driplines buried) and 0.91 (driplines surface) for the entire cycle of the pineapple crop.

In this work we report on conductivity fluctuation measurements in polycrystalline samples of the Er1-xPr xBa2Cu3O7-δ superconductor (x = 0.00, 0.05 and 0.10). Samples were prepared by a standard solid-state reaction technique. The results were analyzed in terms of the temperature derivative of the resistivity and of the logarithmic temperature derivative of the conductivity that allowed the identification of power-law divergences of the conductivity. The results show that the transition proceeds in two stages: pairing and coherence transition. Also, our results, from the critical exponent analysis, show a two-peak splitting at pairing transition, indicating possibly a phase separation. On approaching the zero resistance state, our results show a power-law behavior that corresponds to a phase transition from paracoherent to a coherent state of the granular array.

The introduction of routine vaccination against tetanus and diphtheria in Brazil has decreased the incidence and changed the epidemiology of both diseases. We then investigated the prevalence of Corynebacterium diphtheriae carrier status and diphtheria and tetanus immunity in São Paulo, Brazil. From November 2001 to March 2003, 374 individuals were tested for the presence of C. diphtheriae in the naso-oropharynx and of serum diphtheria and tetanus antibodies. Participants were all healthy individuals without acute or chronic pathologies and they were stratified by age as follows: 0-12 months and 1-4, 5-9, 10-14, 15-24, 25-39, 40-59, and ³60 years. Antibodies were assessed using a double-antigen ELISA. C. diphtheriae species were identified by biochemical analysis and toxigenicity was assessed by the Elek test. For diphtheria, full protection (antibodies ³0.1 IU/mL) was present in 84% of the individuals, 15% had basic protection (antibodies ³0.01 and <0.1 IU/mL) and 1% were susceptible (antibodies <0.01 IU/mL). Full tetanus protection (antibodies ³0.1 IU/mL) was present in 79% of the participants, 18% had basic protection (antibodies ³0.01 and <0.1 IU/mL) and 3% were susceptible (antibodies <0.01 IU/mL). The geometric mean of diphtheria and tetanus antibodies reached the highest values at 5-9 years and decreased until the 40-59-year age range, increasing again in individuals over 60 years. Three participants (0.8%) were carriers of C. diphtheriae, all non-toxigenic strains. The present results demonstrate the clear need of periodic booster for tetanus and diphtheria vaccine in adolescents and adults after primary immunization in childhood.

O efeito das variáveis de extrusão de misturas de farinha de arroz polido (FAP) e de bagaço de jabuticaba (FBJ) foi estudado em função das características de adsorção de água e da estabilidade dos produtos extrusados (FME). A metodologia de superfície de resposta (MSR) do tipo 2³ foi usada para a obtenção de um modelo matemático preditivo para a estabilidade das farinhas. O desenho experimental foi elaborado para verificar o efeito de dois níveis de substituição de FBJ como fonte de fibra (15 e 25%), dois níveis de velocidade de rotação do parafuso (100 e 200 rpm) e duas condições de aquecimento na 3ª zona do extrusor (120 e 180ºC), originando oito tratamentos. As características de adsorção de água das FAP, FBJ e de suas misturas foram comparadas e estudadas por meio de isotermas de adsorção expressas como atividades de água (A W), que variaram de 0,113 a 0,973, a temperatura de 25ºC. Os dados experimentais das isotermas foram ajustados a modelos matemáticos de GAB, o que originou o coeficiente Xm (umidade de equilíbrio na monocamada) aplicada à MSR como variável resposta para avaliar a estabilidade das farinhas extrusadas. Os resultados obtidos permitiram verificar a importância das três variáveis durante o processo de extrusão. As curvas das isotermas apresentaram características de superfícies hidrofílicas de forma sigmoidal do tipo II. A região de umidade intermediária das isotermas revelou que a FAP adsorve maior quantidade de água por unidade de A W, seguida pelas misturas extrusadas. A FBJ mostrou ser menos higroscópica neste caso. Quanto à estabilidade das misturas extrusadas, as três variáveis de extrusão foram significativas, verificando-se um aumento com o aumento da FBJ e com o aumento da temperatura, enquanto que houve um decréscimo com a velocidade de rotação, porém, de menor efeito. A combinação de valores elevados de temperatura e porcentagem de FBJ aumentou a estabilidade das farinhas extrusadas.

It was studied the effect of extrusion variables on the water absorption characteristics of pre-gelatinized flours (FME) resulting from the extrusion of white rice (FAP) and jabuticaba (Myrciaria jaboticaba) dried bagasse flour (FBJ). Response surface methodology (RSM) type 2³ was used as a predictive mathematical model to evaluate the flour stability. The experimental design was used to study the effect of two levels of FBJ replacement as a fiber source (15 and 25%), two levels of screw speed (100 and 200 rpm) and two temperatures of the 3rd heating zone (120 and 180ºC) resulting in eight treatments. The water absorption of FME, FAP and FBJ were compared by analysing the absorption isotherms water activity (Aw), which varied from 0.113 to 0.973 at 25ºC. The isotherms experimental data were adjusted to GAB mathematical model, which generated the Xm (equilibrium moisture of the monolayer) coefficient applied to RSM as a variable response to evaluate the stability of the pre-gelatinized flours. The results showed the importance of the three variables during the extrusion process. The isotherms curves presented a typical surface hydrophilic characteristic having a sigmoidal type II shape. The region of intermediate moisture revealed that FAP adsorbed higher water content per unit of Aw, followed by FME. FBJ showed the lowest hygroscopic character. Concerning the stability of pre-gelatinized flour, the three extrusion variables were statiscally significant. The stability increased with the increase of FBJ flour content and also with the extruder temperature, whereas it decreased as the screw speed reduced, although with lower effect. The combination of high temperature and FBJ content improves the stability of the extruded flours.

Estudou-se a ocorrência de Salmonella spp. em forros de caixa de transporte e em órgãos de pintos de corte de um dia, por meio de cultura bacteriológica convencional. Foram avaliadas 378 amostras de 18 lotes pertencentes a três empresas integradoras de frangos de corte do Estado de Goiás. Verificou-se a ocorrência de Salmonella spp. em 55,6 % (10/18) dos lotes sendo 10 lotes positivos oriundos de caixa de transporte e um lote de órgãos de pinto de um dia. A freqüência de isolamento de Salmonella spp. nos forros de caixas foi de 11,1%, e nos órgãos de pintos de corte de um dia, 3%. Os resultados sugerem a transmissão vertical do agente. Foram isolados os sorovares Salmonella Enteritidis e Salmonella Heidelberg, o primeiro mais freqüente (92,3%).

The occurrence of Salmonella spp. in paper pads of chick boxes and organs of one-day-old chicks was studied by conventional bacteriological technique. Eighteen broilers flocks belonged to three integrated broiler organizations in the state of Goiás were evaluated. The occurrence of Salmonella spp. was registered in 55.6 % (10/18) of the flocks, 10 flocks by analysis of paper pads of chick boxes and one flock by analysis of chick organs. The paper pads of chick boxes revealed 11.1% of Salmonella recovery, while the one-day-old chick organs, 3%. This result suggested Salmonella spp. transmission by vertical way. Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Heidelberg were the isolated serovars and the first one was the most frequent (92.3%).
