RESUMO Os requisitos nutricionais das espécies florestais nativas podem influenciar a produtividade. Assim, o entendimento desses requisitos nos permite otimizar o uso de insumos e reduzir os impactos ambientais em projetos de restauração florestal. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar mudanças na ultraestrutura celular e na anatomia das lâminas foliares, bem como observar sinais visuais de deficiência de nutrientes em plantas jovens de Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) Kuntze, uma espécie florestal amplamente utilizada em projetos de restauração ecológica. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação em blocos aleatórios com três repetições de sete tratamentos usando subtração de nutrientes (ou seja, controle [plantas cultivadas com todos os nutrientes], -N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg e -S). As plantas foram colhidas 135 dias após o início dos tratamentos, quando a deficiência de macronutrientes resultou em anormalidades visíveis. Foram observadas alterações na ultraestrutura celular e na estrutura dos cloroplastos, citoplasma e lamelas estromais, bem como concentrações de amido e lipídios no citoplasma, espaços intercelulares e células parenquimatosas. Alterações nas ultraestruturas celulares, lâminas foliares e sinais visuais de deficiência de nutrientes impediram o desenvolvimento de plantas jovens de C. estrellensis; portanto, projetos de restauração florestal que utilizam essa espécie em solos que requerem suplementação nutricional podem ter sucesso limitado na ausência de suporte nutricional.

ABSTRACT The nutritional requirements of native forest species can influence productivity. Thus, the understanding of these requirements enables us to optimize the use of inputs and reduce the environmental impacts inforest restoration projects. The present study aimed to evaluate changes in cellular ultrastructure and the anatomy of leaf laminae as well as observe visual signs of nutrient deficiency in young Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) Kuntze plants, a forest species widely used in ecological restoration projects. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in random blocks with three replications of seven treatments using nutrient subtraction (I.e., control [plants grown with all nutrients], -N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg, and -S). The plants were harvested 135 days after the beginning of the treatments when the deficiency of the macronutrients resulted in visible abnormalities. Changes in the cell ultrastructure and structure of the chloroplasts, cytoplasm, and stromal lamellae were observed, as well as starch and lipid concentrations in the cytoplasm, intercellular spaces, and parenchymal cells. Changes in the cell ultrastructures, leaf laminae, and visual signs of nutrient deficiency hindered the development of young C. estrellensis plants; therefore, forest restoration projects that use this species in soils that require nutritional supplementation may have limited success in the absence of nutritional support.

Resumo O conhecimento dos efeitos da nutrição mineral sobre a fisiologia vegetal de espécies nativas é um importante auxílio para que se obtenha o sucesso desejado quando estas são usadas no reflorestamento ou na recuperação de áreas degradadas. A presente pesquisa avaliou as consequências da deficiência de macronutrientes em Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) Kintze (jequitibá-branco) nas taxas de assimilação de gás carbônico e de transpiração e na pr_odução de biomassa desta espécie, que é amplamente utilizada na restauração florestal no Brasil. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em blocos ao acaso, com sete tratamentos e três repetições, empregando a técnica de diagnose por subtração de macronutrientes, com um tratamento-controle no qual o jequitibá-branco foi cultivado em solução nutritiva completa, com todos os macros e micronutrientes. Os teores de nutrientes foram determinados por análise química nos diferentes órgãos do jequitibá-branco; através do analisador de gás por infravermelho portátil (Infrared Gas Analyzer - IRGA, modelo Li-cor 6400) foram determinadas as taxas de assimilação de gás carbônico e de transpiração em folhas de três partes distintas das plantas, e ao final do experimento foi realizada a determinação da produção de biomassa seca. A deficiência dos macronutrientes, de de modo geral, prejudicou as taxas de assimilação de gás carbônico e de transpiração e, por conseguinte, a produção de biomassa seca das plantas jovens de jequitibá-branco foi menor em relação ao tratamento-controle. Os resultados deste estudo sugerem que a implantação de florestas ou a recuperação de áreas degradadas por meio do reflorestamento que utilizam o jequitibá-branco certamente serão prejudicados se a complementação nutricional não for realizada quando o solo for deficiente em qualquer dos macronutrientes.

Abstract Knowledge of the mineral nutrition effects on plant physiology of native species is an important aid in order to obtain the intended success when they are used in reforestation or recovery of areas with deteriorated soils. This study investigated the macronutrient deficiency effects in Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) Kintze, known in Brazil as “jequitibá-branco”, in carbon dioxide assimilation and transpiration rates and biomass production of this species, which is widely used in reforestations in Brazil. The experiment was carried on a greenhouse, in a randomized block design with seven treatments with three replicates, using the technique of diagnosis by subtraction of macronutrients, with a control treatment in which the Cariniana estrellensis was grown in nutrient solution with all macro and micronutrients. In different organs of “jequitibá-branco” the nutrient contents by chemical analysis were determined; using portable infrared gas analyzer (Infrared Gas Analyzer - IRGA, Li-cor Model 6400) carbon dioxide assimilation and transpiration rates were determined in leaves of three distinct parts of plants, and at the end of the experiment was obtained the dry biomass weight. The deficiency of nutrients, in general, limited the carbon dioxide assimilation and transpiration rates and therefore the production of dry biomass of “jequitibá-branco” young plants was lesser than the control treatment. The results of this study suggest that the reforestation or rehabilitation of degraded areas using the Cariniana estrellensis will certainly be severely affected if the nutritional supplementation is not performed when the soil is deficient in any macronutrient.

Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de estratégias de manejo de irrigação com água salina no crescimento e produção de feijão-caupi e do girassol em um sistema de rotação de culturas. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos ao acaso com treze tratamentos e cinco repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram de: T1 (controle), T2, T3 e T4, utilizando água de 0,5 (A1), 2,2 (A2), 3,6 (A3) e 5,0 (A4) dS m-1, respectivamente, ao longo de todo o ciclo da cultura; T5, T6 e T7, utilizando águas salinas A2, A3 e A4, respectivamente, apenas na fase de floração e frutificação; uso de diferentes fontes de água de forma cíclica, com seis irrigações com A1 seguido por seis irrigações com A2 (T8), A3 (T9) e A4 (T10), respectivamente; T11, T12 e T13, usando água A2, A3 e A4, respectivamente, a partir de 11 dias após o plantio (DAP) e continuando até ao final do ciclo da cultura. Estes tratamentos foram empregados na primeira safra com o feijão-caupi, durante a estação seca. As mesmas parcelas foram utilizados para o cultivo de girassol como cultura de sucessão durante a estação chuvosa. O uso de água salina no estádio de maior tolerância à salinidade (tratamentos T5, T6 e T7) ou ciclicamente (tratamentos T8, T9 e T10) reduziu a quantidade de água de boa qualidade usada na produção de feijão-caupi em 34 e 47%, respectivamente, sem impactos negativos na produtividade da cultura, e eliminou os efeitos residuais da salinidade no girassol como uma cultura de sucessão. Assim, essas estratégias parecem promissoras para serem empregadas em áreas com problemas de água salinas na região semiárida do Brasil.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of management strategies of irrigation with saline water on growth and yield of cowpea and sunflower in a crop rotation. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks with thirteen treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of: T1 (control), T2, T3 and T4 using water of 0.5 (A1), 2.2 (A2), 3.6 (A3) and 5.0 (A4) dS m-1, respectively, during the entire crop cycle; T5, T6 and T7, use of A2, A3 and A4 water, respectively, only in the flowering and fructification stage of the crop cycle; using different water in a cyclic way, six irrigations with A1 followed by six irrigations with A2 (T8), A3 (T9) and A4, (T10), respectively; T11, T12 and T13, using water A2, A3 and A4, respectively, starting at 11 days after planting (DAP) and continuing until the end of the crop cycle. These treatments were employed in the first crop (cowpea), during the dry season, and the same plots were used for the cultivation of sunflower as succeeding crop during rainy season. The strategies of use of saline water in the salt tolerant growth stage (treatments T5, T6 and T7) or cyclically (treatments T8, T9 and T10) reduced the amount of good quality water used in the production of cowpea by 34 and 47%, respectively, without negative impacts on crop yield, and did not show the residual effects of salinity on sunflower as a succeeding crop. Thus, these strategies appear promising to be employed in areas with water salinity problems in the semiarid region of Brazil.

As atividades práticas contribuem para o interesse e a aprendizagem em Ciências, especialmente quando investigativas e problematizadoras. Assim, o objetivo foi entender como professores de Ciências do Ensino Fundamental percebem estas atividades, bem como saber se são por eles utilizadas e os motivos para o seu uso/não uso no cotidiano da escola. Para isso, entrevistamos professoras de Ciências, que indicaram raramente utilizar atividades práticas e terem dificuldades nesta utilização. Quando o fazem, é após aulas teóricas, para apenas ilustrar a teoria . Justificam raramente recorrerem a tais atividades pela insegurança, falta de apoio e infraestrutura da escola. As professoras afirmam valorizar as atividades práticas, mas as percebem apenas como complemento para as aulas teóricas. Entendem serem necessárias mais atividades práticas, porém ficam angustiadas por não conseguirem desenvolvê-las nas condições de trabalho. Considerando as dificuldades apontadas, são oferecidas sugestões para se promoverem estas atividades no sistema público de ensino brasileiro.

Practical activities contribute to interest and learning in Science, especially when they require investigation and problematization. So, the goal of the study was to understand how Science teachers in Fundamental Education perceive these activities and also to know if there are applied and the reasons for their use/not use in everyday schooling. The study interviewed Science teachers, who had indicated difficulties and who used practical activities rarely. When they are used, it happens after theoretical study, to illustrate theory only. Teachers justify rarely using these practices because they feel insecure and they do not have school structure and human support. Teachers value practical activities but perceive practical activities only as complementary to theoretical classes. Teachers understand the necessity for more practical activities, but feel anguish because they do not make it happen. The researchers considered difficulties expressed by teachers and give some suggestions to encourage practical activities in Brazilian educational public system.

O ensaio tem por objetivo refletir sobre a utilidade do conceito de não sincronia, na educação, entre desigualdades de gênero e raça. Para tanto, apresenta e discute o perfil de estudantes e candidatos/as ao Programa Internacional de Bolsas de Pós-Graduação da Fundação Ford no Brasil, propondo interpretações referentes à sobrerepresentação feminina no ensino superior e na pós-graduação. Termina alertando sobre a necessidade de se abrir o debate sobre o melhor desempenho educacional das mulheres no contexto atual de discussão sobre ação afirmativa no ensino superior para negros e indígenas

The essay is a reflection on the usefulness of the concept of non synchrony between gender and racial inequalities in education. It presents and discusses the profile of the students and candidates in the International Fellowships Program of the Ford Foundation in Brazil, proposing interpretations with respect to the over-representation of women in higher education and in graduate studies. It ends by calling attention to the need to open up the discussion about the better educational performance of women in the present context of the debate on affirmative action in higher education for blacks and the indigenous population.
