ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the perception of choristers who perform online rehearsals about symptoms, vocal disadvantages, adaptations in the singing routine and difficulties in rehearsals during social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Method Application of an online questionnaire investigating perceptions about the voice and singing routine and rehearsal of 141 choristers who did not have COVID-19 disease and continued in remote activity until April 2021. Participants were divided in two groups according to the age: G1 (18 to 54 years old) and G2 (55 years old or more). The data underwent descriptive and inferential analysis, considering a significance level of 5%. Results During distancing, both groups reported a decrease in singing time and felt more difficult to sing alone. Choir singers reported fewer throat infections during this period. Choir singers from G1 noticed a huskier voice, reported difficulty concentrating via videoconferencing, felt nervous to singing alone in virtual rehearsals and stressed recording the same song several times. G2 choristers reported more physical vocal symptoms such as: tired voice, varying throughout the day, and a weaker and more breathy voice. Conclusion In social distancing, the choristers found it more difficult to sing by videoconference and had reduced singing practice time. Younger choir singers reported more emotional symptoms and older choir singers reported more vocal symptoms.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a percepção de coristas que realizam ensaios virtuais, quanto a sintomas, desvantagens vocais, adaptações na rotina de canto e dificuldades nos ensaios durante o distanciamento social devido a pandemia do COVID-19. Método Aplicação de questionário online investigando percepções sobre a voz e rotina de canto e ensaio de 141 coristas que não tiveram a doença do COVID-19 e continuaram em atividade remota até abril de 2021. Os participantes foram divididos em dois grupos de acordo com a faixa etária: G1 (18 a 54 anos) e G2 (55 anos ou mais). Os dados passaram por análise descritiva e inferencial, considerando-se nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Durante o distanciamento, ambos os grupos referiram diminuição do tempo de canto e acharam mais difícil cantar sozinhos. Os coristas referiram menor número de infecções de garganta nesse período. Coristas do G1 perceberam voz mais rouca, relataram dificuldade para se concentrar por videoconferência, sentiam-se nervosos ao cantarem sozinhos nos ensaios virtuais e estressados gravando várias vezes a mesma música. Coristas do G2 referiram mais sintomas vocais como: voz cansada, variando ao longo do dia, voz fraca e com mais ar. Conclusão No distanciamento social, os coristas acharam mais difícil cantar por videoconferência e tiveram o tempo de prática de canto diminuído. Coristas mais jovens referiram mais sintomas emocionais e coristas com mais idade relataram mais sintomas vocais.

RESUMO Objetivo Investigar o efeito imediato da fonação em tubo de silicone na autoavaliação e na qualidade vocal de cantores gospel. Método Amostra composta por 40 cantores gospel sem queixa vocal, ambos os sexos, 18 a 40 anos. Os cantores realizaram um exercício de trato vocal semiocluído de fonação em tubo de silicone LaxVox®, com uma extremidade submersa em água a 2cm de profundidade, por 3 minutos. Antes e após o exercício, foi realizada gravação da voz para avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, e somente após o exercício foi feita autoavaliação da voz e do conforto fonatório. Os dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados Todos os participantes relataram melhora na voz, além de proporção significativamente maior de melhora do conforto fonatório pós-exercício. Na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva, não houve diferença na comparação das proporções das categorias da avaliação perceptivo-auditiva pré e pós-exercício em cantores gospel. Conclusão O exercício de fonação em tubo de silicone promoveu efeito imediato positivo na autoavaliação da voz e do conforto fonatório dos cantores Gospel. Não houve diferença significativa na avaliação perceptivo-auditiva pré e pós-exercício de fonação em tubo de silicone em cantores gospel.

ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate the immediate effect of phonation into silicone tube on self-assessment and vocal quality of gospel singers. Methods The sample was composed of 40 gospel singers without vocal complaint, males and females, from 18 to 40 years. The singers performed semi-occluded vocal tract exercise in LaxVox® silicone tube. The end of the tube was submerged in water (2cm depth), for three minutes. Before and after exercise, voice recording was performed for perceptive-auditory evaluation, and only after exercise, the voice and comfort phonation self-assessments (CSA) were performed. The descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were performed. Results All participants reported improvement in voice. In addition, a significant higher proportion of them indicated phonation comfort improvement after exercise. According to the perceptive-auditory evaluation, there was no difference in the comparison of the proportions of pre- and post-exercise perceptive-auditory evaluation categories in gospel singers. Conclusion The phonation exercise into a silicone tube caused an immediate positive effect on gospel singers’ voice and comfort phonation self-assessments. There was no significant difference in the perceptive-auditory evaluation before and after phonation into silicone tube in gospel singers.

OBJETIVO: Realizar a equivalência cultural da versão brasileira do protocolo Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily (EASE), por meio de sua adaptação cultural e linguística. MÉTODOS: Após tradução do EASE para o Português brasileiro e retrotradução para o Inglês, realizou-se a comparação dos itens com o instrumento original, sendo as discrepâncias existentes modificadas por consenso por um comitê composto por cinco fonoaudiólogos, chegando-se ao Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily para o Brasil (EASE-BR), com 22 questões e quatro alternativas na chave de resposta: "não", "um pouco", "moderadamente" e "muito". A pontuação é a soma simples de todas as respostas, sendo que os três itens com aspectos positivos (6, 12 e 21) exigem pontuação reversa. Para a equivalência cultural, o EASE-BR foi aplicado em um total de 41 cantores brasileiros, com acréscimo da opção "não aplicável" na chave de respostas, para identificação de questões não compreendidas ou não apropriadas para a população-alvo e a cultura brasileira. RESULTADOS: Cinco dos 32 cantores inicialmente avaliados encontraram dificuldade para o preenchimento de três questões, sendo necessária adaptação da tradução das sentenças não compreendidas ou consideradas inapropriadas. O EASE-BR modificado foi então aplicado em mais nove cantores e não foram encontradas mais barreiras culturais e/ou conceituais. CONCLUSÃO: Foi verificada equivalência cultural entre o EASE e sua versão traduzida para o Português brasileiro, o EASE-BR. A validação do EASE para o Português brasileiro está em andamento, após a conclusão dessa etapa.

PURPOSE: To present the cross-cultural equivalence of the Brazilian version of the Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily (EASE) protocol, through its cultural and linguistic adaptation. METHODS: After the EASE was translated to Brazilian Portuguese, the back-translation into English was done. The items of the translated version were compared with the original instrument and the discrepancies were modified by consensus of a committee composed of five speech language pathologists. The Evaluation of the Ability to Sing Easily for Brazil (EASE-BR) has 22 questions with four alternatives: "no," "mildly," "moderately," and "extremely." The score is obtained by the simple sum of all answers. The three positive items (6, 12, and 21) require reverse score. For cultural equivalence, the EASE-BR was applied with 41 Brazilian singers, with an extra item in the answer key - "not applicable." The aim of this extra key was to identify issues that might not have been understood or were not appropriate for the target population and the Brazilian culture. RESULTS: Of the 32 singers, 5 who were initially evaluated had difficulties to answer 3 of the 22 questions. Therefore, the adaptation of those sentences was necessary. Afterward, the modified EASE-BR was applied to nine singers, and no more cultural and/or conceptual barriers were found. CONCLUSION: Cultural equivalence was observed between EASE and its translated version to the Brazilian Portuguese, the EASE-BR. Validation of the EASE for Brazilian Portuguese is in progress.

TEMA: análise do grau global e tensão na voz de cantores de roque. OBJETIVO: analisar a voz de cantores de roque em dois parâmetros específicos: grau global de desvio vocal (GGDV) e grau de tensão (GT), comparando esses parâmetros em três trechos de músicas. MÉTODOS: participaram 26 cantores de roque com idade entre 17 e 46 anos (média = 29:08 anos). Todos responderam a um questionário para caracterização da amostra e realizaram a gravação dos trechos selecionados: Hino Nacional Brasileiro (HNB), Satisfaction e música do repertório auto-selecionada (MR). As amostras foram avaliadas por cinco fonoaudiólogas nos parâmetros GGDV e GT. A análise estatística foi realizada pelo programa SPSS versão 13.0. RESULTADOS: foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significantes para os valores médios de GGDV e GT na música Satisfaction (GGDV = 32,8 e GT = 45,8 / p = 0,024) e na MR (GGDV = 38,4 e GT = 55,8 / p = 0,010). Os valores de GGDV e GT possuem relação diretamente proporcional nos trechos HNB* e MR**, sendo que quanto maior a tensão maior o GGDV( p = < 0,001*, p = 0,010**). Quando se analisa individualmente os três trechos, encontra-se que o GGDV não varia de forma significante para as músicas, porém seus valores médios apresentam uma tendência crescente do não roque para o roque (24,0 HNB / 32,8 Satisfaction / 38,4 MR), porém a tensão encontrada no HNB apresenta diferença estatisticamente significante da tensão encontrada nas músicas de roque (Satisfaction e MR, p = 0,008 e p = 0,001). CONCLUSÕES: os dados observados sugerem que o estilo roque está relacionado com maior utilização de tensão na voz e que essa tensão não necessariamente impõe uma impressão negativa à voz, mas corresponde a um fator interpretativo comum ao estilo musical.

BACKGROUND: overall voice and strain level analysis in rock singers. AIM: to analyze the voice o rock singers according to two specific parameters: overall level of vocal deviation (OLVD) and strain level (SL); to compare these parameters in three different music samples. METHOD: participants were 26 male rock singers, ranging in age from 17 to 46 years (mean = 29.8 years). All of the participants answered a questionnaire for sample characterization and were submitted to the recording of three voice samples: Brazilian National Anthem (BNA), Satisfaction and self-selected repertoire song (RS). Voice samples were analyzed by five speech-language pathologists according to OLVD and SL. Statistical analysis was done using the software SPSS, version 13.0. RESULTS: statistically significant differences were observed for the mean values of OLVD and SL during the performance of Satisfaction (OLVD = 32.8 and SL = 0.024 / p=0.024) and during the RS performance (OLVD = 38.4 and SL = 55.8 / p=0.010). The values of OLVD and SL are directly proportional to the samples of the BNA* and RS**, i.e. the higher the strain the higher the OLVD (p,0.001*; p=0.010**). When individually analyzing the three song samples, it is observed that the OLVD does not vary significantly among them. However, the mean values present a trend to increase from non-rock to rock performances (24.0 BNA / 32.8 Satisfaction / 38.4 RS). The level of strain found during the BNA performance presents statistically significant difference when compared to the rock performances (Satisfaction and RS, p=0.008 and p=0.001). CONCLUSION: the obtained data suggest that rock style is related to the greater use of vocal strain and that this strain does not necessarily impose a negative impression to the voice, but corresponds to a common interpretative factor related to this style of music.
