Abstract Sisal (Agave sisalana) is a plant exploited in semi-arid regions of Brazil for fiber production, but the floral scape of sisal (peduncle) is collected and often burned, causing environmental problems, even through irregular disposal. To circumvent this scenario, the objective of this work was to produce reconstituted panels using the sisal arrow and castor-based polyurethane resin. The panels were obtained using 175 g of crushed sisal arrow core with dimensions smaller than 2 mm and adopting 10% castor-based polyurethane resin and The samples were pressed under tension of 2 MPa. The properties of reconstituted panel were evaluated through NBR 14810-1 (ABNT, 2013) and NBR 14810-2 (ABNT, 2018), the physical properties were investigated: moisture, density, thickness swelling and absorption; as well as mechanical properties: MOR, MOE, internal bond and parallel compression. The found results show that the panel is classified as low density (419.8 kg/m³), and with physical and mechanical properties similars to other panels of the same classification in the literature. For average values of MOR and MOE it was found 5.24 MPa and 147.49 MPa, respectively. For internal bonding it was found 0.14 MPa and for parallel compression properties it was found 1.14 MPa. Resumo O sisal (Agave sisalana) é uma planta explorada nas regiões semiáridas do Brasil para produção de fibras, mas o escapo floral do sisal (flecha) é coletado e frequentemente queimado causando problemas ambientais, até mesmo pelo descarte irregular. Para contornar este cenário, o objetivo deste trabalho foi produzir painéis reconstituídos usando a flecha do sisal e resina poliuretana à base de mamona. Os painéis foram obtidos empregando 175 g do miolo da flecha de sisal triturada com dimensões inferiores a 2 mm e adotando 10% de resina poliuretana à base de mamona e as amostras foram prensadas com tensão de 2 MPa. Avaliou-se no painel reconstituído, através da NBR 14810-1 (ABNT, 2013) e NBR 14810-2 (ABNT, 2018) as propriedades físicas: umidade, densidade, inchamento e absorção; bem como as propriedades mecânicas: MOR, MOE, força de ligação e compressão paralela. Os resultados encontrados mostram que o painel é classificado como de baixa densidade (419,8 kg/m³), e de propriedades físicas e mecânicas semelhantes a outros painéis de mesma classificação da literatura. ABSTRACT The interaction between bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes and N-fixing microorganisms has the potential to be utilized in sustainable agricultural production. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the effects of the interaction for growth, production and nodulation characteristics between the bacteria Rhizobium tropici and Azospirillum brasilense among different bean genotypes. The experiments were conducted in the Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in 2018 and 2019, in randomized block design with three replicates in a 20 × 3 factorial scheme; 20 common bean genotypes were tested under three forms of inoculation (no inoculation, inoculation with R. tropici, co-inoculation of R. tropici + A. brasilense). The number of grains per pod and nodule mass had the most significant direct positive effect on grain yield. For nodulation, a positive correlation of strong magnitude was observed between mass of the aerial part and number of pods per plant (0.68), stem diameter and mass of nodules (0.92) and first pod insertion height and number of nodules (0.64). In the path analysis, the number of grains per pod had the most significant direct effect (0.57) on the grain productivity variable. Regarding nodulation characteristics, selection for nodule mass was preferred due to its direct effect on grain yield as opposed to the number of nodules, which has a negative effect. This suggests an advantage of larger nodules with greater individual mass than a large number of small nodules for both improved yield and N fixing by common bean plants.

Abstract Dowling-Degos disease (DDD) is an uncommon genodermatosis. The most closely associated disorder is Galli-Galli disease (GGD). Both conditions are considered on the same disease spectrum, with the differentiating factor being the presence of acantholysis in GGD. A 51-year-old female with a 21-year history of pruritic eruption in flexural areas progressing to the trunk and limbs presented to our dermatology consult. Physical examination revealed reddish-to-dark brown hyperkeratotic papules and reticulated confluent macules. Dermoscopy showed irregular star-shaped brown mottled areas and yellow-brown polygonal structures. Histopathology confirmed features consistent with GGD. Genetic screening identified a mutation in the POGLUT1 gene. Treatment with topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% and oral antihistamines decreased pruritus, but the skin eruption persisted. We present a rare case of GGD describing clinical, genetic, dermoscopy, and histopathological features. Clinicopathological correlation and good cooperation between dermatologists and histopathologists are essential to make the correct diagnosis of GGD.

Resumo A doença de Dowling-Degos (DDD) é uma genodermatose rara, associada à doença de Galli-Galli (GGD). O fator de diferenciação entre as duas doenças é um critério histopatológico com a presença de acantólise no caso da GGD. Mulher de 51 anos, fototipo de Fitzpatrick II, recorreu à consulta de Dermatologia por uma dermatose generalizada e pruriginosa com 21 anos de evolução, com início nas pregas e progressão o tronco e membros. Ao exame objetivo observaram-se máculas e pápulas, castanho-alaranjadas, confluentes, de aspecto reticulado que predominavam no tronco e membros. A dermatosocopia das lesões mostrou áreas irregulares em estrela de coloração castanha e estruturas poligonais amareloacastanahdas, circundadas por halos esbranquiçados. A biópsia cutânea foi compatível com GGD. O estudo genético identificou uma mutação no gene POGLUT1. Este artigo ilustra um caso raro de GGD, descrevendo suas características clínicas, genéticas, dermatoscópicas e histopatológicas. A correlação clinicopatológica é essencial para o diagnóstico de GGD.

Resumo Introdução: A reorganização dos cuidados de saúde imposta pela pandemia COVID-19 relevou a capacidade de trabalho de todos os profissionais de saúde, espelhando o papel basilar da Medicina Interna. Este trabalho pretende evidenciar a complexidade da gestão do doente COVID-19, pautada muitas vezes pela ausência de suporte teórico/científico face ao desconhecido. Métodos: Avaliação retrospetiva e descritiva de todos os doentes com infeção SARS-CoV-2 internados numa enfermaria do serviço de Medicina Interna, da Unidade Local de Saúde de Viseu Dão-Lafões (ULS Viseu Dão-Lafões), no período compreendido entre janeiro-abril e julho-novembro de 2021 (picos pandémicos de 2021). Resultados: Durante os 9 meses em estudo, foram avaliados 394 doentes, com predomínio do género masculino 56,60% (n = 223) e uma idade média de 70,42 anos. O tempo médio de internamento foi de 13,95 dias. A maioria apresentava pelo menos um fator de risco cardiovascular e apenas 29,44% (n = 116) eram vacinados contra a COVID-19. Quanto à terapêutica, 84,26% (n = 332) realizaram dexametasona e 85,79% (n = 338) necessitaram de oxigenoterapia suplementar; cerca de 22,08% (n = 87) necessitaram de ventilação mecânica não invasiva e 7,61% (n = 30) de ventilação mecânica invasiva. Registaram-se 23,86% (n = 94) óbitos. A infeção SARS-CoV-2 foi o diagnóstico principal na maioria dos doentes, mas muitos foram os diagnósticos secundários. Conclusão: A gravidade e complexidade de uma entidade nosológica totalmente desconhecida num contexto pandémico é de uma enorme exigência profissional e pessoal, como representado através da caracterização desta amostra. Salienta-se o espetro de doentes graves e com necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico, numa curva de admissões que se revelou exponencial.

Abstract Introduction: The reorganization of health care imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the work capacity of all health professionals, mirroring the fundamental role of In-ternal Medicine. This work intended to highlight the complexity of managing the COVID-19 patient, often guided by the absence of theoretical/scientific support in the face of the unknown. Methods: A retrospective and descriptive evaluation of all patients with SARS-COV2 infection admitted to a ward of the Internal Medicine service, Unidade Local de Saúde de Viseu Dão-Lafões (ULS Viseu Dão-Lafões), in the period between January-April and July-November 2021 (pandemic peaks of 2021). Results: During the nine months under study, 394 patients were evaluated, with a predominance of males 56.60% (n = 223) and an average age of 70.42 years. The average length of stay was 13.95 days. Most had at least one cardiovascular risk factor, and only 29.44% (n = 116) were vaccinated against COVID-19. Of the therapy, 84.26% (n=332) received dexamethasone, 85.79% (n =3 38) needed supplemental oxygen therapy; approximately 22.08% (n = 87) required non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and 7.61% (n = 30) underwent invasive mechanical ventilation/high-flow oxygen therapy. There were 23.86% (N = 94) dea-ths. COVID-19 infection was the primary diagnosis in most patients, but many were secondary diagnoses. Conclusion: The severity and complexity of an unknown nosological disease, in the pandemic phase, is of enormous professional and personal demand, as represented by the characterization of this sample. The spectrum of critically ill patients in need of mechanical ventilatory support stands out, in an admissions curve that turned out to be exponential.

Resumo Introdução: A onicomadese é o descolamento da placa ungueal a partir da prega proximal da unha. Esta alteração ungueal autolimitada foi descrita como uma complicação tardia da doença mão-pé-boca, uma infeção viral comum em crianças. Descrição do caso: Criança do sexo feminino de quatro anos, acompanhada pelo pai (representante legal), recorreu a consulta aberta (CA) com um quadro de febre alta, vesículas e pústulas na mucosa oral, língua, períneo, palmas e plantas das mãos e pés. Foi feito o diagnóstico de doença mão-pé-boca. Após três semanas recorre novamente a CA, com resolução completa do quadro viral, mas com alterações ungueais compatíveis com onicomadese. Comentário: A onicomadese secundária à doença mão-pé-boca é uma manifestação relativamente incomum, mas que causa bastante ansiedade aos pais. O reconhecimento desta associação permite orientar os pais sobre a situação transitória e benigna que pode surgir com esta infeção viral, evitando ansiedade, sobreutilização dos cuidados de saúde e tratamentos desnecessários.

Abstract Introduction: Onychomadesis is the detachment of the nail plate from the proximal crease of the nail. This self-limited nail change has been described as a late complication of hand-foot-and-mouth disease, a common viral infection in children. Case description: A 4-year-old female child, accompanied by her father (legal representative), presented to an urgent appointment with high fever, vesicles, and pustules on the oral mucosa, tongue, perineum, palms, and soles of the hands and feet. The diagnosis of hand-foot-mouth disease was made. After three weeks, she returned to another appointment, with complete resolution of the viral picture, but with nail changes consistent with onychomadesis. Comment: Onychomadesis secondary to hand-foot-and-mouth disease is a relatively uncommon manifestation, but one that causes considerable anxiety to parents. Recognition of this association makes it possible to guide parents on the transient and benign situation that can arise with this viral infection, avoiding anxiety, overuse of health care, and unnecessary treatments.

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever a situação vacinal contra poliomielite em 26 capitais, Distrito Federal e 12 municípios do Brasil, em crianças nascidas em 2017 e 2018. Métodos Inquérito domiciliar de base populacional realizado de 2020 a 2022, em que se avaliou a cobertura vacinal da poliomielite em crianças, considerando doses válidas, aplicadas e oportunas por municípios. Resultados Foram coletados dados de 37.801 crianças. A cobertura vacinal de esquema completo de doses válidas foi de 87,5% (IC95% 86,2;88,7), caindo para 79,6% (IC95% 78,1;81,0), considerando a dose de reforço. A taxa de abandono foi de 4,5% para esquema completo, e de 11,7% no primeiro reforço. Não houve correlação entre a realização de campanha e as elevadas coberturas. Conclusão A cobertura vacinal de esquema completo e no primeiro reforço não atingiu a meta de 95,0%. Diferenças regionais e a associação das coberturas vacinais com indicadores sociais devem ser consideradas nas estratégias de aumento da cobertura.

ABSTRACT Objective To describe the polio vaccination status in 26 state capitals, the Federal District, and 12 municipalities in Brazil, among children born between 2017 and 2018. Methods This was a population-based household survey conducted from 2020 to 2022, which assessed polio vaccination coverage in children, considering valid, administered, and timely doses by municipality. Results Data were collected from 37,801 children. Vaccination coverage for the complete valid dose schedule was 87.5% (95%CI 86.2;88.7), dropping to 79.6% (95%CI 78.1;81.0), when the booster dose was considered. The dropout rate was 4.5% for the complete schedule, and 11.7% for the first booster. There was no correlation between campaign implementation and high coverage. Conclusion Vaccination coverage for the complete valid dose schedule and the first booster did not meet the 95.0% target. Regional disparities and the association between vaccination coverage and social indicators should be taken into consideration in strategies to increase coverage.

RESUMO Objetivo Estimar cobertura vacinal, atraso e perda de seguimento da vacina tríplice viral, em crianças até 24 meses residentes em cidades brasileiras. Método Inquérito domiciliar baseado em uma coorte retrospectiva de nascidos vivos em 2017-2018, que analisou cobertura e dados sociodemográficos das crianças e famílias, a partir dos registros da caderneta de vacinação e entrevista. Resultados A cobertura válida da primeira dose foi de 90,0% (IC95% 88,9;91,0), e da segunda, e 81,1% (IC95% 79,8;82,4). O atraso para ambas as doses foi de 23,2% (IC95% 21,9;24,5) e a perda de seguimento de 10,8% (IC95% 9,9;11,8). O estrato socioeconômico A apresentou menor cobertura e, à medida que a ordem de nascimento aumentava, menor era a cobertura para as duas doses. Crianças de mães com 13 a 15 anos de escolaridade apresentaram maior cobertura. Conclusão As coberturas não alcançaram a meta preconizada. Estratégias diferenciadas para dirimir dificuldade de acesso, desinformação e hesitação poderão melhorar a cobertura.

ABSTRACT Objective To estimate measles-mumps-rubella vaccination coverage, delay and loss to follow-up in children up to 24 months old living in Brazilian cities. Methods Surveys and questionnaires with a retrospective cohort of live births in 2017-2018, analyzing vaccination coverage and sociodemographic data of children and families, based on vaccination card records and interviews. Results Valid coverage of first dose was 90.0% (95%CI 88.9;91.0) and 81.1% for the second dose (95%CI 79.8;82.4). Delay for both doses was 23.2% (95%CI 21.9;24.5) and loss to follow-up was 10.8% (95%CI 9.9;11.8). Socioeconomic stratum A had the lowest vaccination coverage and the higher the child’s birth order, the lower the vaccination coverage for the second dose. Children whose mothers had 13 to 15 years of education had higher vaccination coverage. Conclusion Coverage did not meet the recommended target. Differentiated strategies to resolve difficulties in access, misinformation, and vaccination hesitancy will help improve vaccination coverage.

Abstract In low and middle-income countries such as Brazil, most maternal deaths are related to hypertensive complications. Preeclampsia is the leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the association between burnout and sociodemographic, work factors, lifestyle habits and health conditions of military police officers in a municipality in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Method: cross-sectional research with 131 military police officers. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software and the R program. RESUMO Objetivo: analisar a associação entre burnout e fatores sociodemográficos, laborais, hábitos de vida e condições de saúde de policiais militares de um município do estado do Paraná, Brasil. ABSTRACT Introduction: The complexity of liver transplantation requires a highly qualified team, in which the social worker plays a crucial role in analyzing and intervening in the social situation of candidates. Objectives: To investigate the social profile of liver transplant candidates and relate it to the interventions and reflections made during the social assessment at the Hospital de Base Liver Transplant Unit. Methods: Based on the records of the Social Work, the information of the candidates evaluated between January 2019 and December 2020 was analyzed. This quantitative-qualitative, retrospective, descriptive and documentary study, with participant observation, was conducted from a dialectical perspective. Results: During the data collection period, 174 evaluations were obtained. Social profile: Average age 55.8 years, predominantly male (N=116; 66.7%), with a partner (N=129; 74.1%), living in municipalities in the state of São Paulo (N=124; 71.3%), incomplete primary education (N=68; 39.1%), low level of education (N=65; 37.4%), inactive in the job market (N=151; 86.8%), accessing social security benefits (N=120; 69%), positive acceptance of the transplant (N=158; 90.8%), nuclear family (N=120; 69%), offer of care and family adherence (N=172; 98.9%), partial access to medication (N=122; 70.1%), ease of access to the transplant center (N=157; 90.2%), per person family income of 1\2 to 2 minimum wages (N=107; 61.5%) and satisfactory/conserved housing standard and state of repair (N=157; 90.3%). RESUMO Introdução: A complexidade do transplante de fígado requer uma equipe altamente qualificada, no qual o assistente social desempenha papel crucial para analisar e intervir na situação social dos candidatos. Objetivos: Investigar o perfil social dos candidatos ao transplante de fígado e relacioná-lo com as intervenções e reflexões efetuadas durante a avaliação social na Unidade de Transplante de Fígado do Hospital de Base. Métodos: Com base nos registros do Serviço Social, foram analisadas as informações dos candidatos avaliados entre janeiro de 2019 e dezembro de 2020. Este estudo quantitativo-qualitativo, retrospectivo, descritivo e documental, com observação participante, foi conduzido a partir de um panorama dialético. Resultados Durante o período de coleta de dados, obteve-se174 avaliações. Perfil social: média etária de 55,8 anos, predominância masculina (N=116; 66,7%), com companheiro/a (N=129; 74,1%), residentes em municípios do estado de São Paulo (124; 71,3%), ensino fundamental incompleto (N=68, 39,1%), baixo nível de instrução (N=65; 37,4%), inatividade no mercado de trabalho (N=151; 86,8%), acessando benefício da previdência social (N=120; 69%), positiva aceitação do transplante (N=158; 90,8%), família nuclear (N=120; 69%), oferta de cuidados e aderência familiar (N= 172;98,9%), acesso parcial a medicamentos (N=122; 70,1%), facilidade de acesso ao centro transplantador (N=157; 90,2%), renda per capita familiar de 1\2 a 2 salários mínimos (N=107; 61,5%) e padrão habitacional e estado de conservação satisfatório/conservado (N=157; 90,3%). Conclusão O perfil social de maior vulnerabilidade social exigiu mais intervenções na maioria das 25 variáveis avaliadas, fornecendo elementos importantes para a identificação e atendimento das necessidades sociais de cada indivíduo. ABSTRACT Introduction: Blood transfusion is one of the most common medical practices worldwide. However, current scientific literature has shown that the immunomodulatory effects of blood transfusion are associated with an increased likelihood of infection, prolonged hospitalization, and morbimortality. Also, it means high costs for healthcare systems. Methods: In this context, acknowledging that blood transfusions are essentially heterologous cell transplantations, the use of therapeutic options has gained strength and is collectively known as the patient blood management (PBM) program. PBM is an approach based on three main pillars: (1) treating anemias and coagulopathies in an optimized manner, especially in the preoperative period; (2) optimizing perioperative hemostasis and the use of blood recovery systems to avoid the loss of the patient's blood; (3) anemia tolerance, with improved oxygen delivery and reduced oxygen demand, particularly in the postoperative period. Results: Current scientific evidence supports the effectiveness of PBM by reducing the need for blood transfusions, decreasing associated complications, and promoting more efficient and safer blood management. Thus, PBM not only improves clinical outcomes for patients but also contributes to the economic sustainability of healthcare systems. Conclusion: The aim of this review was to summarize PBM strategies in a comprehensive, evidence-based approach through a systematic and structured model for PBM implementation in tertiary hospitals. ABSTRACT: We take Anísio Teixeira as a hub, from which we aim to design the configuration of networks, linking subjects and institutions. We choose the period from 1935 to 1947, scrutinizing the editorial work he carried out for Companhia Editora Nacional (CEN), based on documentation from the publisher’s collection at the Center for Memory and Historical Research of the History of UNIFESP; as well as documents about Anísio’s brief stay at UNESCO, form July 15, 1946 to February 15, 1947, existing at CPDOC-FGV and at the UNESCO Archives. The text is structured in two: in the first part, we highlight Anísio's work in CEN: in the second one, the focus shifts to his career at UNESCO. In both, it is the mobile web of networks that drives the writing, guided by an argument based on the transnational history of education. It is important to highlight that when we address the reflection to a transnational perspective, we are not neglecting the national space, nor placing Brazil in a peripheral position with respect to a supposed center that disseminates knowledge. Elegemos o período entre 1935 e 1947, esmiuçando o trabalho editorial que realizou para Companhia Editora Nacional (CEN), a partir da documentação do acervo da editora, depositado no Centro de Memória e Pesquisa Histórica da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp); bem como os documentos sobre a breve passagem de Anísio pela Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (Unesco), entre 15 de julho de 1946 e 15 de fevereiro de 1947, existentes no Centro de Pesquisa e Documentação de História Contemporânea do Brasil (CPDOC-FGV) e no Unesco Archives. Abstract This article investigates how extractivism, operated in colonial territories, enabled the worldwide consolidation and expansion of the capitalist system, the viability of which has continued through to the present day. In order to illustrate our arguments, we have used the example of mining. We then move on to indicate the existing complicity between the construction sector, which involves the practice of architecture, and global capitalism, based on the production of commodities for export. We also demonstrate how belief in the eco-efficiency of ‘green’ technologies and buildings masks the externalization of socio-environmental impacts generated by hegemonic production processes, such as those that are part of the iron and steel production chain (materials we widely use in civil construction). Resumo O presente artigo investiga como o extrativismo, operado nos territórios coloniais, possibilitou a consolidação e a expansão mundial do sistema capitalista, sendo que continua viabilizando-o no presente. Para ilustrar nossos argumentos, usamos o exemplo da mineração.
