This work investigated the effect of a composite of tetragonal zirconia with alumina-reinforced Ceria (ATZ) previously synthesized, on the properties of alumina-based ceramics (Al2O3). Monolithic alumina powder and Al2O3 powder mixtures containing 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt.% of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 were processed by high energy milling, compacted and then sintered at 1600 °C - 2 h. Sintered pure alumina and composites were characterized by relative density, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and surface roughness. Then, the elastic modulus, the Vickers hardness, the fracture toughness and the 4-point flexural strength were evaluated. The results indicated an increase in relative density as a function of the addition of ATZ, with values between 94.3 ± 0.8% and 98.9 ± 0.7%. The observed microstructure after sintering showed tetragonal ZrO2 grains with average sizes of 0.6 μm well dispersed in the Al2O3 matrix, which presents average grain sizes of around 1.5 μm. The crystalline phases identified in the composites were ZrO2-tetragonal and Al2O3 hexagonal. The addition of the composite (ATZ) in the alumina matrix generates a gradual reduction in the elastic modulus (398 ± 15 GPa ~366 ± 34 GPa) and in the hardness (20.5 ± 1 GPa ~17.3 ± 0.7 GPa) of the sintered ceramics. On the other hand, the addition of this same composite (ATZ) in the alumina matrix considerably increases the materials fracture toughness, reaching values of approximately 6.7 ± 0.9 MPa.m1/2. The same trend was observed in the flexural strength results which ranged from 258 MPa (5wt.% Ce-TZP/Al2O3) to 316 MPa (20wt.% Ce,Y-TZP/Al2O3). The Ce-TZP reinforcement acts as a toughening agent of the Al2O3 matrix due to the coupled mechanisms of toughening by zirconia phase transformation, residual stresses due to the difference in thermal expansion of the crystalline phases and differences in microstructural morphologies.

This work investigated the effect of adding ceria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Ce-TZP) on the fatigue behavior of alumina-based ceramic composites. Alumina powder (control group) and mixtures containing 5 wt.% (group A) and 20 wt.% (group B) of a commercial m-ZrO2/Al2O3/CeO2 powder mixture were milled/homogenized, compacted, sintered at 1600°C-2h, and submitted to hydrothermal degradation. The samples were characterized by relative density, microstructure, crystalline phases, and static mechanical properties. The cyclic fatigue strength was determined using the modified staircase method in 4-point bending tests. The results indicate that adding the m-ZrO2/Al2O3/CeO2 powder mixture to the Al2O3-matrix increases the tetragonal-ZrO2 grains (Ce-TZP) content, presenting 2.9 wt.% of Ce-TZP and 11.9 wt.% of Ce-TZP for group A and group B, respectively. Furthermore, the addition of Ce-TZP improves densification (98.5% → 99.1%) with a slight reduction in hardness and modulus of elasticity and a significant KIC increase of the composite (KIC = 6.7 MPa.m1/2, group B) when compared to monolithic alumina (KIC=2.4 MPa.m1/2). The fatigue strength limit of the control group was around 100 MPa, while the composites (groups A and B) presented the values of 279 MPa and 239 MPa, respectively. The results indicated that the incorporation of Ce-TZP significantly improves the fracture toughness of alumina-based ceramics. On the other hand, regarding the fatigue behavior, there was an increase in fatigue resistance in group A, resulting from the benefits of the t→m Ce-TZP grains transformation, which occurs during cyclic loading, producing a zone shielding that involves the tip of the crack, slowing its growth. The increase in the amount of Ce-TZP (group B) leads to an increase in the internal residual stresses between the phases due to anisotropy and difference in the thermal expansion coefficients, which accelerates the phase transformation and formation of microcracks at grain boundaries, reducing the fatigue strength of composites of group B.

RESUMO A hidroxiapatita estequiométrica é um material bioreabsorvível e tem sido utilizada para reparação óssea e jateamento de implantes de titânio. Contudo, a hidroxiapatita estequiométrica não é estável acima de 1130 oC a 1200 oC limitando a temperatura de tratamento térmico realizado no biomaterial para aumentar a resistência mecânica dos aglomerados obtidos do processo de síntese a temperatura ambiente. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi a elaboração de fosfato de cálcio com razão molar Ca/P de 1,7. Com esta razão molar Ca/P é possível a formação de hidroxiapatita estável até aproximadamente 1360 oC, de acordo com o diagrama de equilíbrio CaO-P2O5. O fosfato de cálcio foi elaborado pelo método de síntese via úmida utilizando carbonato de cálcio e ácido fosfórico como matérias-primas. O material obtido da síntese é composto por partículas aglomeradas com tamanho entre 20 nm e 70 nm, sendo que o tamanho dos aglomerados varia de alguns µm até aproximadamente 200 µm. Os resultados da análise térmica e da difração de raios-X mostraram que a hidroxiapatita é estável entre 750 oC e 1350 oC. O tratamento térmico realizado a 1300 oC confirmou que não há transformação da hidroxiapatita em fosfato tricálcico acima de 1130 oC a 1200 oC como acontece com a hidroxiapatita estequiométrica. No tratamento térmico realizado a 1300 oC durante 1 hora obteve-se hidroxiapatita com 67 % de porosidade enquanto que no tratamento de 4 horas, a mesma temperatura, a porosidade foi de 17 %. A hidroxiapatita com alta porosidade tem aplicação na reparação óssea enquanto que a hidroxiapatita mais compacta pode ser utilizada no jateamento de implantes de titânio. Estas aplicações são discutidas no trabalho.

ABSTRACT Stoichiometric hydroxyapatite is a bioreabsorbable material and has been used for bone repair and shot blasting of titanium implants. However, the stoichiometric hydroxyapatite is not stable above 1130 oC to 1200 oC, limiting the heat treatment performed on the biomaterial to increase the mechanical strength of the granules obtained from the synthesis process at room temperature. Therefore, the aim of this work was the elaboration of calcium phosphate with Ca/P molar ratio of 1.7. With this Ca/P molar ratio, the formation of stable hydroxyapatite is possible up to approximately 1360 oC, according to the CaO-P2O5 equilibrium diagram. Calcium phosphate was prepared by the wet method of synthesis using calcium carbonate and phosphoric acid as raw materials. The material obtained from the synthesis consists of agglomerated particles with a size between 20 nm and 70 nm, while the size of the agglomerates varied from a few microns to approximately 200 µm. The results of the thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction showed that the hydroxyapatite is stable between 750 oC and 1350 oC. The heat treatment performed at 1300 oC confirmed that there is no transformation of hydroxyapatite into tricalcium phosphate above 1130 oC to 1200 oC as it happens for stoichiometric hydroxyapatite. In the heat treatment carried out at 1300 oC for 1 hour, hydroxyapatite was obtained with 67 % of porosity whereas in the treatment of 4 hours at the same temperature the porosity was 17 %. Hydroxyapatite with high porosity has applications in bone repair whereas the more compact hydroxyapatite can be used in the blasting of titanium implants. These applications are discussed in the work.

Resumo Houve mudança de paradigma quanto ao prognóstico da infecção pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana, passando da morte para problema crônico, mas ainda hoje a infecção implica revisão de vida da mulher que convive com a doença. O objetivo deste artigo foi apresentar as fases psicológicas pelas quais passam as gestantes após descobrirem a contaminação. Foi realizado estudo clínico-qualitativo a partir de entrevistas individuais, e a amostra foi intencional e fechada pelo critério de saturação teórica. Após análise qualitativa de conteúdo, foram estabelecidas três fases psicológicas evolutivas: confusão emocional, dúvida existencial e ambiguidade funcional. A notícia do teste positivo desencadeia emoções intensas e mecanismos de defesa, sobretudo devido ao medo de transmissão vertical. Dessa forma, é fundamental que equipes de saúde ampliem a compreensão sobre esta vivência tão significativa para gestantes e seus familiares.

Abstract There has been a paradigm shift regarding the prognosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection, changing it from death to a chronic condition, but the infection still implies a review of the life of women who are living with this virus. The objective of this article is to present the psychological phases which pregnant women go through after knowing about their infection. A clinical-qualitative study was carried out, applying individual interviews, with an intentional sample, using the theoretical saturation criterion. Three evolutionary psychological phases emerged from the analysis: emotional confusion; existential doubt; functional ambiguity. The news of the presence of the virus brings intense emotions triggering defense mechanisms, especially, against the strong fear of vertical transmission. It is, thus, fundamental for health teams to broaden the understanding of this experience so significant for pregnant women and their families.

Resumen Hubo un cambio de paradigma con respecto al pronóstico de la infección por Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana, pasando de la muerte a un problema crónico, pero aún hoy la infección implica la revisión de la vida de la mujer que convive con la enfermedad. El objetivo de este artículo fue presentar las fases psicológicas por las que pasan las embarazadas luego de descubrir la contaminación. Se realizó un estudio clínico-cualitativo, a partir de entrevistas individuales y la muestra fue intencional y cerrada por el criterio de saturación teórica. Luego del análisis cualitativo de contenido, se establecieron tres fases psicológicas evolutivas: confusión emocional, duda existencial y ambigüedad funcional. La noticia del test positivo desencadena emociones intensas y mecanismos de defensa, sobre todo debido al temor a la transmisión vertical. De esta forma, es fundamental que los equipos de salud amplíen la comprensión sobre esta vivencia tan significativa para las embarazadas y sus familiares.

Resumo O reúso de efluente doméstico é uma alternativa para a agricultura irrigada em situações de reduzida disponibilidade de água. No entanto, como é comum a presença de patógenos em águas residuárias, torna-se necessário um processo de desinfecção previamente à sua utilização. Com o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, avaliou-se a viabilidade sanitária e agrícola do efluente doméstico tratado em Estação Piloto composta por Tanque Séptico, Wetlands e sistema de desinfecção por radiação ultravioleta (UV). A Estação de Tratamento de Esgoto (ETE) se encontra instalada no Centro de Ciências Agrárias, UFSCar, em Araras-SP, e recebe diariamente 2000 L de esgoto, o qual foi monitorado em termos de pH, turbidez, condutividade elétrica (CE), oxigênio dissolvido (OD), sódio (Na), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), nitrogênio total (NT), fósforo total (PT), magnésio (Mg), carbono orgânico total (COT), coliformes totais (CT), Escherichia coli (E. coli) e Razão de Adsorção de Sódio (RAS). A eficiência de remoção dos parâmetros foi calculada com base nas médias de entrada e saída de cada unidade de tratamento. Os resultados apontaram remoção para K (68,2%), NT (54,1%) e PT (36,1%). Os teores de Na (26,7%) e Ca (22,9%) demonstraram aporte desses sais ao efluente, porém, a RAS não apresentou riscos quanto à sodificação do solo. Com relação aos microbiológicos, a ETE apresentou uma remoção de 4 e 5 ciclos log para CT e E. coli, respectivamente. Sendo assim, os resultados do monitoramento indicam que o efluente tratado da ETE Piloto apresenta viabilidade sanitária e agrícola, estando de acordo com a legislação vigente.

Abstract Domestic effluent reuse is an alternative for irrigated agriculture in situations of reduced water availability. However, as there is the presence of pathogens in wastewater, the disinfection process is necessary before use. This research evaluated the sanitary and agricultural viability of treated wastewater at a pilot-scale station composed of a septic tank, Wetlands and an ultraviolet radiation (UV) disinfection system. The Sewage Treatment Station (STS) is installed in the Agricultural Sciences Center, UFSCar, in Araras city, SP, and receives 2000 L of sewage daily, which was monitored in terms of pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity (EC), dissolved oxygen (DO), sodium (Na), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), magnesium (Mg), total organic carbon (TOC), total coliforms (TC), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR).The removal efficiency of the parameters was calculated based on the input and output means of each treatment unit. Results indicated removal efficiency for K (68.2%), TN (54.1%) and TP (36.1%). The levels of Na (26.7%) and Ca (22.9%) demonstrated the contribution of these salts to the wastewater; however, SAR did not present any risks for soil sodification. Microbiologically, the STS presented removal efficiency of 4 and 5 log-cycles for TC and E. coli, respectively. Therefore, results of monitoring indicate that the treated wastewater presents sanitary and agricultural viability, and conforms with the current legislation.

To solve chipping of veneer porcelain in zirconia dental prosthesis it has been studied different cooling rates in firing schedules to control residual stresses generated by differences in thermal properties between the ceramics. However, cooling rates may affect the porcelain, irrespectively of interaction with zirconia. This study analyzed the effect of cooling rate on the three-point flexural strength (FS), residual stress, Vickers hardness (VH) and V-notch fracture toughness (SEVNB) on a feldspathic porcelain (Vita VM9) indicated for covering zirconia. Bar-shaped specimens were sintered according manufacturer's schedule firing and cooled at different rates (slow, normal or fast). Specimens were tested for FS (n=30), VH (n=15) and SEVNB tests (n=15). Weibull analysis were performed from FS values to measure reliability and probability of failure (PF). One-way ANOVA was significant for VH (p<0.001), and Tukey's test showed that slow cooling led to higher values. There was no significant difference for FS (p=0.654) and SEVNB (p=0.734). Fast cooling led to the lowest PF, but cooling rate factor was not significant for Weibull modulus. All cooling group showed residual tensile stress (MPa): Slow = 34.81; Normal = 27.04; Fast = 18,98. It was concluded that cooling rate produce minor changes in the porcelain properties.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar o perfil somatotípico e a composição corporal de atletas da seleção brasileira de futebol de 5. Participaram 23 atletas do sexo masculino. Todos foram submetidos à avaliação antropométrica e em seguida foram feitos os cálculos de índice de massa corporal (IMC), percentual de gordura corporal (%GC), somatório de pregas cutâneas (Σ9DC) e somatotipo. Observou-se que apenas os goleiros apresentaram diferença significativa (p ≤ 0,05) nas variáveis de IMC, %GC e Σ9DC em relação às outras posições. Os goleiros apresentaram perfil endomorfo-mesomorfo, os fixos mesomorfo-equilibrado e os alas e pivôs, endo-mesomorfo. Concluímos que os goleiros apresentam diferença significativa de %GC quando comparados com as outras posições e apresentaram diferenças somatotipológicas significativas em relação às outras posições. O mesmo foi observado na posição fixo quando comparados com os pivôs.

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the profiles somatotype and body composition of athletes of Brazilian 5-a-side football team. This study involved 23 male athletes. Were all submitted to anthropometric measurements and then were carried the calculations of body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BF%), Skinfolds sum (Σ9DC) and somatotype. It was observed that goalkeepers differ significantly (p ≤ 0.05) in body mass, BF% and Σ9DC for other positions. The goalkeepers showed profile endomorph-mesomorph, the defender mesomorph- balanced, while the winger and pivot, endo-mesomorph. Concluded that the goalkeepers were significant differences in BF% when compared to other positions and showed significant differences in somatotype compared to other positions, the same was observed in defenders when compared with pivots.

Resumen El objetivo del estudio fue determinar los perfiles somatotípicos y la composición corporal de los atletas de la selección brasileña de fútbol 5. Participaron en el estudio 23 atletas masculinos. Todos pasaron mediciones antropométricas y después se realizaron los cálculos del índice de masa corporal (IMC), porcentaje de grasa corporal (%GC), la suma de pliegues cutáneos (Σ9DC) y somatotipo. Los porteros difieren (p ≤ 0,05) en la MC, %BF y Σ9DC con relación a otras posiciones. Los porteros mostraron perfil mesomorfo-endomorfo, los defensas mostraron un perfil mesomorfo-equilibrado y laterales y pivotes, endomorfo-mesomorfo. Llegamos a la conclusión de que en los porteros se encontraron diferencias significativas en el %GC en comparación con otras posiciones y mostraron diferencias significativas en el somatotipo de otras posiciones. Lo mismo se observó en una posición fija en comparación con los pivotes.

RESUMO As florestas ciliares e de galeria localizadas no “arco do desmatamento”, vêm sofrendo degradação acelerada e, com a implantação do novo Código Florestal Brasileiro (Lei nº 12.651 de 2012), essas poderão ser reduzidas ainda mais. Diante desse fato, novos estudos acerca da produção de mudas para recuperação de áreas degradadas devem ser realizados com espécies nativas do domínio Amazônico e também do Cerrado. Por conseguinte, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi verificar em quais níveis de sombreamento, mudas de Calophyllum brasiliense, espécie típica de ambientes úmidos, apresentam os valores mais adequados de crescimento e eficiência de uso interno de nutrientes, visando a recomposição de áreas perturbadas. O estudo foi desenvolvido em viveiro florestal da UNEMAT de Nova Xavantina-MT. Avaliamos o crescimento das mudas em diâmetro, altura, número de folhas, produção de massa seca aérea e radicular, Índice de Qualidade de Dickson (DQI) e a Eficiência no Uso Interno de Nutrientes (EIUN) em casas de vegetação a 0 (pleno sol), 30, 50, 70 e 90% de sombreamento. De forma geral, os melhores resultados foram obtidos nos sombreamentos a 50 e 70%. Ecologicamente, a espécie responde melhor tanto em condições de clareira (50% de sombreamento) quanto em condições de dossel ou fechamento de clareira (70%). Nossos resultados demonstraram que as condições ideais para a produção de mudas desta espécie e maior EIUN, podem ser obtidas em condições de viveiro com 70% de sombreamento.

ABSTRACT Riparian and gallery forests located at the “arc of deforestation” have been undergoing fast degradation. With the implementation of the new Brazilian Forest Code (Law 12,651 of 2012), these can be reduced further. Thus, new studies on seedling production for ecological restoration should be carried out using native species from the Amazon and Cerrado. The objective of the present study was to assess under which shading levels the seedlings of Calophyllum brasiliense, a tree species typical of humid environments, show the highest values of growth and nutrient use efficiency, aiming at using these seedlings for restoration. The study was carried out in a plant nursery of the State University of Mato Grosso in Nova Xavantina, Brazil. We assessed seedling growth in diameter, height, number of leaves, production of shoot and root dry mass, Dickson quality index (DQI), and efficiency in the internal use of nutrients (EIUN) in greenhouses at 0 (full sunlight), 30, 50, 70, and 90% shading. The treatments at 50 and 70% shading showed the best results. Ecologically, the species responds well under both gap conditions (50% shading) and canopy or closing gap conditions (70% shading). Our results showed that the ideal conditions to produce seedlings of this species with high EIUN are obtained in greenhouses with 70% shading.

Resumo A região norte de Minas Gerais caracteriza-se por ser uma entre as regiões do país que têm o leite como um dos principais geradores de renda pela agricultura familiar. Para que o leite produzido tenha competitividade no mercado e tenha maior valor agregado, a agricultura familiar deve se adequar para atender os parâmetros legais vigentes. Teve-se como objetivo caracterizar o manejo produtivo geral adotado em unidades agrícolas familiares nos municípios de Bocaiúva, Francisco Sá e Montes Claros, no norte de Minas Gerais, identificando os entraves para a produção de leite dentro dos parâmetros estabelecidos pela legislação vigente. O sistema de produção foi avaliado por meio de coleta de dados em questionários e listas de verificação nos diferentes ambientes envolvidos com a produção. A qualidade microbiológica foi avaliada através da enumeração de microrganismos indicadores aeróbios mesófilos, psicrotróficos, Staphylococcus sp e coliformes fecais em leite cru, leite cru refrigerado, água e utensílios utilizados para produção. Os resultados da análise microbiológica associada às práticas de manejo adotadas revelaram que a principal causa da contaminação do leite era o emprego inadequado ou a ausência de boas práticas de higiene no sistema de produção, sendo este o principal entrave ao atendimento das exigências legais para o produto.

Abstract The northern region of Minas Gerais State is characterized as one of the regions of the country where milk has an important economic and social role for the family farming sector. Due to legal requirements, this sector must adjust so that the product will be marketed without bringing risk to the consumers, being, therefore, competitive on the commercial market. The objective of this study was to characterize the productive management generally adopted by the family farms in the municipalities of Bocaiuva, Capitão Enéas, Francisco Sá, and Montes Claros, in northern Minas Gerais, identifying the barriers to the production of milk within the parameters established by the legislation. The production system was evaluated by collecting data from questionnaires and checklists in the different environments involved with the production. The microbiological quality was assessed by enumeration of indicator microorganisms in aerobic mesophiles, psychrotrophic, Staphylococcus sp and coliforms in raw milk, raw refrigerated milk, water and utensils used in the production. The results of microbiological analysis associated with the adopted practices revealed the main cause of milk contamination was the inadequate use or the lack of good hygiene practices in the production system, representing the main obstacle to attend the legal requirements for this product.

ZrO2(Y2O3)-based ceramics are widely used as biomaterials due to high fracture toughness, resulting from the tetragonal-monoclinic phase transformation in which the ceramic is submitted during crack propagation. In this context, studies involving the possibility of optimization of the tetragonal phase are important for the properties improvement of this ceramic. This study investigated the recovery of tetragonal phase from a previously transformed ZrO2(3 mol% Y2O3) ceramic. Zirconia samples were sintered at 1450 °C, at 1530 °C - 2 h and at 1600 °C - 4 h, in order to obtain materials with distinct microstructural features. The sintered samples were characterized by relative density, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Samples sintered at 1450 °C, 1530 °C - 2 h and 1600 °C - 4 h, presented relative densities of 94.2, 99.6 and 99.7% with grains size averages of 0.28, 0.49 and 1.31 µm, respectively. All samples were submitted to milling to induce the tetragonal→monoclinic phase transformation presenting 5, 50 and 65 vol% of monoclinic phase. Subsequently, heat treatments between 400 °C and 1200 °C were conducted to retransform monoclinic in tetragonal phase. It has been found that the smaller the grain size after sintering, the lower the necessary annealing temperatures for fully recovering of tetragonal phase. Annealing temperatures of 950, 1100 and 1200 °C were sufficient to recover almost fully the tetragonal phase.

AIM: To investigate the effect of the cooling rate on flexural strength of monolayer and bilayer porcelain/zirconia (Y-TZP) bars.METHODS: Forty-five specimens were made for each design group: (PM) monolithic specimens of veneer porcelain Vita VM9 (Vita, Germany); (ZM) monolithic specimens of zirconia (ZiHP; ProtMat, Brazil); (PB) bilayer specimens zirconia/porcelain with porcelain on lower surface; and (ZB) bilayer specimens porcelain/zirconia with zirconia on lower surface. Each group was cooled by three different methods after porcelain sintering: slow specimens were cooled inside the turned-off furnace; normal specimens were removed from the furnace and cooled in air at room temperature; and fast specimens were removed from the furnace at 910°C and cooled by compressed air for 10 s. Specimens were polished and flexural strength was measured in water at 37 °C (n=15). Maximum load at fracture was recorded, and equations for simple (monolayer) and composite (bilayer) structures were used to calculate the flexural strength. RESULTS were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (p<0.05) and Tukey test separately for each design.RESULTS: The results of one-way ANOVA were statistically significant only for the PB group. The post-hoc Tukey test showed the highest flexural strength for fast cooling and the lowest for slow cooling; the normal cooling was statistically similar to both.CONCLUSIONS: Cooling methods affected only the flexural strength of bilayer specimens with porcelain on low surface (under tension) when the slow cooling method was used.

INTRODUÇÃO: Na população feminina, a adesão a tratamentos clínicos especializados em dependência de substâncias psicoativas tem características peculiares quando se considera as abordagens terapêuticas disponíveis para a população dependente geral. Um número menor de mulheres em comparação a homens procura tratamento especializado. Tradicionalmente, os serviços de atenção a dependentes químicos oferecem terapias semelhantes para homens e mulheres, incluindo grupos mistos em alguns serviços. OBJETIVO: Discutir os significados psicológicos atribuídos por mulheres dependentes de substâncias psicoativas a fenômenos associados à adesão ao tratamento em um ambulatório universitário especializado. MÉTODO: Foi utilizado o método clínico-qualitativo, isto é, uma abordagem caracterizada pelo enfoque tipicamente qualitativo das ciências humanas adaptado ao contexto da saúde. Adotou-se a técnica de entrevista semiestruturada com questões abertas na coleta dos dados, combinada com observação das mulheres entrevistadas. Os dados obtidos foram tratados utilizando análise qualitativa de conteúdo. RESULTADOS: Três categorias de desfecho de tratamento foram identificadas: 1) motivações significativas para buscar e seguir o tratamento proposto; 2) significados simbólicos atribuídos à substância química; 3) representações psicológicas de desmotivação para explicar a dificuldade em aderir ao tratamento. CONCLUSÕES: Nossos achados sugerem que as motivações que levam mulheres dependentes a procurar tratamento são múltiplas, destacando-se o fato de que a substância utilizada passa a ser percebida como algo que traz perdas relevantes e prejudica o exercício adequado do papel feminino nos âmbitos familiar e social. Um acolhimento adequado é considerado fundamental para que a paciente prossiga seu tratamento, compensando o forte prazer físico associado ao uso da substância psicoativa.

INTRODUCTION: In the female population, adherence to specialist clinical treatment for psychoactive substance dependence has peculiar characteristics in terms of therapeutic approaches available to addicts in general. A smaller number of women seek specialist treatment in comparison with men. Traditionally, most health care services specializing in chemical dependence provide similar therapies to both men or women, including the use of mixed-sex groups at some facilities. OBJECTIVE: To discuss the views or psychological meanings attributed by women with substance use disorders to phenomena associated with adherence to treatment at a specialist university outpatient clinic. METHODS: The qualitative-clinical method was used, i.e., an approach characterized by the typically qualitative focus of human sciences adapted to health care settings. The semi-structured interview technique with open questions was used for data collection, combined with observation of the women interviewed. Data were processed using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS: Three categories of treatment outcomes emerged: 1) significant motivations to seek and follow the treatment proposed; 2) symbolic meanings attributed to the drug; 3) psychological representations of lack of motivation to explain difficulties adhering to treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the motivations of addicted women to seek treatment vary, but highlight the fact that the substance used becomes perceived as something that causes significant losses and hinders the proper exercise of women’s role in family and social contexts. A warm welcoming is considered essential for a patient to adhere to treatment, offsetting the strong physical pleasure associated with psychoactive substance use.

A colheita de cana-de-açúcar é efetuada manualmente e com a queima da palha em grande parte da área de cultivo. Porém, esse manejo deverá ser completamente substituído pela mecanizado. O emprego desse sistema de colheita é relativamente recente e pode resultar em alterações significativas no agroecossistema, em função da manutenção da palha no ambiente. Descrições sobre métodos de coleta de Formicidae, cujas espécies podem ser predadoras de diversas pragas da cultura, ainda são inexistentes em agroecossistemas que usam esse novo tipo de manejo. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o uso de diferentes métodos de coleta: pitfall, isca e armadilhas subterrâneas; sendo os dois últimos com dois tipos de atrativos. A maior riqueza foi obtida com pitfall e a maior abundância com isca; a composição e a estrutura das comunidades diferem em relação ao método usado. A fauna coletada com um mesmo método, porém com atrativos diferentes, é similar. O uso de pitfall proporciona a amostragem da fauna predadora do cultivo, o que é importante para os programas de controle natural de pragas; e para quantificar a abundância da maior parte dessa fauna, a sardinha é o melhor material atrativo, devido à facilidade de manipulação no campo.

The harvest of sugarcane is still traditionally done manually with the burning of straw in most cultivated areas in Brazil. However, burning has been gradually eliminated with the relatively recent use of mechanical harvesting. This will result in significant changes in the agroecosystem, as the straw will remain in the field. No investigation on Formicidae found in sugarcane plantations in Southeastern Brazil harvested by this new system has been done yet. Because of their feeding habits, many species of this family may act as predators of several sugarcane pests. In this study, the sampling efficacy of pitfall traps, baits, and underground traps with two types of attractants were evaluated. Pitfall traps gave the largest richness, while abundance was the highest from baiting. Community composition and structure differed in relation to the sampling methods used. The myrmecofauna collected with the same method with different baits was similar. Pitfall trapping was the most efficient method in this type of ecosystem; and sardine, the best attractant, due to its easy handing in the field.
