ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the feasibility of abdominal liftfor laparoscopic adrenalectomy and compared it with the conventional laparoscopic technique using pneumoperitoneum with medicinal CO2 in dog cadavers. The total surgical time (TST), adrenalectomy time (AT), and gland integrity after removal were evaluated. Thirty-eight adrenalectomies were performed in 19 cadavers. Regardless of the antimere, the TST was significantly lower in the CO2 procedures than in the lift laparoscopy procedures (P=0.001). When comparing the techniques between antimeres, the TST was significantly higher on the left side with lift laparoscopy than with CO2 (P=0.015) and similar between the techniques on the right side of the animals (P=0.086). In the comparison of AT, regardless of the execution side, no differences were observed between the techniques (P=0.05). The same was observed when AT was evaluated separately using antimeres (P=0.902). Of the 38 adrenals evaluated, 92.1% were removed in a single block, and 32.29% had a superficial lesion in the capsule. There was no difference between the groups in the removal capacity in a single block (P=0.340) and capsule integrity (P=0.287). Abdominal lift for laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a feasible technique in dog cadavers; however, it requires a longer surgical time than the conventional technique. The traction force used to elevate the abdominal wall must be evaluated.

RESUMO: O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a exequibilidade da adrenalectomia laparoscópica utilizando dispositivo de elevação da parede abdominal via liftlaparoscopy e comparar com a técnica laparoscópica convencional utilizando pneumoperitônio com CO2 medicinal em cadáveres de cães. Para isso, avaliou-se tempo cirúrgico total (TCT), tempo de adrenalectomia (TA) e integridade das glândulas após remoção. Foram realizadas 38 adrenalectomias em 19 cadáveres. Independentemente do antímero, o TCT foi significativamente menor nos procedimentos com CO2 do que com liftlaparoscopy (P=0,001). Na comparação das técnicas entre antímeros, o TCT foi significativamente maior no lado esquerdo com liftlaparoscopy do que com CO2 (P = 0,015) e semelhante entre as técnicas no lado direito dos animais (P=0,086). Já na comparação do TA, independente do lado de execução, não foram observadas diferenças entre os métodos (P=0,05). O mesmo foi observado quando o TA foi avaliado separadamente por antímero (P=0,902). Das 38 adrenais avaliadas, 92,1% foram removidas em um único bloco e destas, 32,29% apresentaram lesão superficial na cápsula. Não houve diferença entre grupos para capacidade de remoção em um único bloco (P=0,340) e da integridade da cápsula (P=0,287). A adrenalectomia laparoscópica por elevação da parede abdominal é factível de ser realizada em cadáveres de cães, entretanto, demanda maior tempo cirúrgico quando comparada à técnica convencional. Além disso, a força de tração empregada para elevar a parede abdominal necessita ser avaliada.

RESUMO Objetivo: descrever as características da introdução da alimentação complementar em crianças nascidas pré-termo. Métodos: trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório, descritiva, transversal, quantitativa. A coleta ocorreu em fevereiro de 2020 e entre os meses de maio e julho de 2021 em um ambulatório de seguimento de recém-nascidos de alto risco. Para participar da pesquisa as crianças tinham que ter iniciado a introdução alimentar há pelo menos 30 dias e ter no máximo 24 meses de idade gestacional corrigida. O instrumento de pesquisa, desenvolvido pelas pesquisadoras, foi aplicado com o responsável pela criança no dia das consultas de rotina, o que o acompanhante não soube responder foi averiguado no prontuário institucional do paciente. Resultados: a amostra foi composta por 29 díades, sendo 55,2% (16) do sexo masculino, e média de idade corrigida de 13 meses. A maioria das mães introduziu a alimentação complementar aos seis meses de idade corrigida. 25% delas introduziram tardiamente e 17,9% precocemente. Quase 100% dos bebês receberam frutas e/ou verduras como primeiros alimentos. Conclusão: mais da metade das mães iniciaram a alimentação complementar no tempo recomendado com consistência e utensilio adequados.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to describe the characteristics of complementary feeding introduced to preterm children. Methods: an exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative research. Data collection took place in February 2020 and between May and July 2021 in an outpatient follow-up clinic for high-risk newborns. To participate in the research, children had to have food introduced at least 30 days before and be 24 months corrected gestational age, at the most. The research instrument, developed by the researchers, was applied to the children’s parents/guardians on the day of routine visits. The information they did not know was verified in the patient's institutional medical record. Results: the sample comprised 29 mothers/babies, 55.2% (16) of whom were males, with a mean gestational age of 13 months. Most mothers introduced complementary feeding at 6 months corrected gestational age; 25% of them introduced it late and 17.9%, early. Almost 100% of the babies received fruits and/or vegetables as their first foods. Conclusion: more than half of the preterm children’s mothers started complementary feeding at the recommended time with adequate consistencies and utensils.

Abstract This systematic review aimed to investigate if there is a better interceptive treatment for palatally displaced canines (PDC) in the mixed dentition stage. The PubMed/MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Scopus, and EMBASE databases were searched for randomized clinical trials related to the research topic. The gray literature and reference lists were also assessed. Network meta-analysis was conducted to analyze the effects of different approaches on PDC eruption. The surface under the cumulative ranking area was calculated to rank the treatments. The certainty of the evidence was evaluated using the GRADE approach. Of the 892 eligible studies, 18 were selected for full-text analysis and 9 for meta-analysis, involving 506 participants and 730 PDC, to compare 9 approaches. The proportion of erupted PDC was significantly higher for all interceptive treatments compared with control (no intervention). Furthermore, the proportion of erupted PDC was higher in patients subjected to rapid maxillary expansion (RME) than those who underwent double extraction of primary canine and primary molar (relative risk (RR) = 2.68 ICr95%: 1.12–9.35). A higher proportion of erupted PDC was found for RME (RR = 3.07 ICr95%: 1.31–10.67), RME plus use of transpalatal arch (TA) plus extraction of primary canine(s) (EC) (RR = 1.43 ICr95%: 1.09–1.95), EC plus use of cervical pull headgear (RR = 1.38 ICr95%: 1.11–1.79), and EC plus use of TA (RR = 1.36 ICr95%: 1.00–1.9) than for EC. RME was most likely to be considered as the best interceptive treatment. Overall, the certainty of the evidence was considered low due to imprecision and indirectness. In conclusion, no intervention in the mixed dentition stage is the worst choice for PDC.

Abstract The loss of continuity of the nerve structure interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses and leads to the disorganization of functional activities. Many methods, as the use of neurogenic factors, aid in the process of neural regeneration by accelerating or improving peripheral nerves neoformation. The adipose tissue is abundant in the human body, and it has presented promising results in the regeneration of peripheral nerves. We carried out a randomized controlled study in 9 months, using 45 male Wistar rats, 80 days old, and the sciatic nerve was chosen for analysis. The control animals were divided into three groups – Initial group (IG), Final group (FG), and denervated group (DG) – with seven animals each. The experimental groups, with twelve animals each, were polyethylene tube filled with fat (EGF) and polyethylene tube without filling (EGwf). All groups, except IG, were submitted to 10 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen treatment of 1h 45 min in alternating days. Functional evaluation by walking-track was assessed using the Catwalk XT® software and tissues were harvested and stained with 1% toluidine blue for histological analysis. Quantitative data were first analyzed with the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test. Comparison between the four groups was analyzed by ANOVA followed by Tukey Test. We concluded that hyperbaric oxygen therapy had positive results on morphometric and functional parameters. However, no significant differences were found regarding the use of autologous fat graft.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar se a exposição a diferentes luminosidades no ambiente afeta parâmetros reprodutivos de camundongos fêmeas prenhas e o desenvolvimento de sua prole. Métodos Foram selecionados para o estudo 15 camundongos fêmeas albinas prenhas. Os camundongos foram separados em grupos: luz/escuro, luz e escuro. As fêmeas foram eutanasiadas no 18° dia de gestação, seguindo as recomendações do Guia Brasileiro de Boas Práticas para a Eutanásia de animais. Tanto peças maternas como fetais foram mensuradas e coletadas para avaliação histológica. Foi utilizado o teste de Análise de variantes (Anova) para comparação dos grupos, considerando estatisticamente significativo o valor de p ≤ 0,05. Resultados Ao comparar as variáveis maternas entre os três grupos, não foi encontrada diferença estatística significativa. Em relação às variáveis fetais, houve diferenças estatísticas entre as medidas de antropometria dos grupos submetidos a diferentes luminosidades do ambiente, com melhores valores médios no grupo luz. Histologicamente, a avaliação placentária evidenciou em todos os grupos o mesmo padrão estrutural, com todos dentro da normalidade. No entanto, a avaliação de úteros, tanto do grupo luz/escuro quanto do grupo luz,mostrou quantidade discreta amoderada de glândulas endometriais, com pouco desenvolvimento na maioria dos animais. Nos fetos, análise pulmonar evidenciou características morfológicas compatíveis com a transição da fase canalicular para sacular em todos os grupos. Conclusão As exposições a diferentes luminosidades no ambiente não influenciaram nos parâmetros reprodutivos das fêmeas, entretanto, a ninhada das mães que receberam luz em todo período apresentou melhores medidas morfométricas.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate whether exposure to different environmental lighting conditions affects the reproductive parameters of pregnant mice and the development of their offspring. Methods Fifteen pregnant albino mice were divided into three groups: light/dark, light, and dark. The animalswere euthanized on day 18 of pregnancy following the Brazilian Good Practice Guide for Euthanasia of Animals.Maternal and fetal specimens weremeasured and collected for histological evaluation. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used for comparison of the groups considering p ≤ 0.05 to be statistically significant. Results There was no significant difference in the maternal variables between the three groups. Regarding fetal variables, significant differences were observed in the anthropometric measures between the groups exposed to different environmental lighting conditions, with the highest mean values in the light group. The histological evaluation showed the same structural pattern of the placenta in all groups, which was within the normal range. However, evaluation of the uterus revealed a discrete to moderate number of endometrial glands in the light/dark and light groups, which were poorly developed in most animals. In the fetuses, pulmonary analysis revealed morphological features consistent with the transition from the canalicular to the saccular phase in all groups. Conclusion Exposure to different environmental lighting conditions had no influence on the reproductive parameters of female mice, while the offspring of mothers exposed to light for 24 hours exhibited better morphometric features.

Resumo Objetivo: avaliar e comparar as características sociodemográficas, sintomas depressivos, de ansiedade e estresse percebido em cuidadores formais e informais de idosos com Doença de Alzheimer. Método: Estudo quantitativo, transversal e comparativo, realizado com 44 cuidadores, divididos em dois grupos: 26 cuidadores informais (CI) e 18 cuidadores formais (CF). Aplicou-se o Instrumento para Caracterização do Cuidador, Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI), Inventário de Ansiedade de Beck (BAI) e Escala de Estresse Percebido (PSS). Resultados: Dos CI, a maioria eram mulheres (96,2%), representada por filhos(as) (65,4%), com idade média de 52,9 anos. Apresentaram, em média, sintomas depressivos (10,1%), sintomas de ansiedade (11,5%) e pontuaram 32,1, no PSS. Dos CF, a maioria eram mulheres (94,4%), idade média de 45,2 anos, sem grau de parentesco com os idosos (66,7%). Apresentaram, em média, sintomas depressivos (7,1%), sintomas de ansiedade (6,4%), e pontuaram 31,7, no PSS. Conclusão: Revelaram-se similaridades nos aspectos sociodemográficos, porém os grupos diferem-se no perfil de saúde, revelando um alerta no planejamento de intervenções visando à promoção de saúde e prevenção de doenças. Implicações para a prática: O estudo contribui para melhorar a qualidade de vida dos cuidadores.

The Instrument for Characterization of the Caregiver, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) were applied. Results: Of those IC, the majority were women (96.2%), mean age of 52.9 years, majority represented by sons (daughters) (65.4%). They presented, on average, depressive symptoms (10.1%), anxiety symptoms (11.5%) and scored 32.1 in the PSS. The FC group, the majority were women (94.4%), mean age of 45.2 years were not related to the elderly people (66.7%). They presented, on average, depressive symptoms (7.1%), anxiety symptoms (6.4%) and scored 31.7 in the PSS. Conclusion: Similarities were shown in the sociodemographic aspects, but the groups differ in the health profile, revealing an alert for the planning of interventions looking for health promotion and disease prevention. Implications for practice: The study contributes to the improvement of the caregivers´ quality of life.

Resumen Éste trabajo evaluó cuantitativamente el riesgo microbiano por consumo de vegetales irrigados con afluente crudo y efluente tratado de la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales (PTAR) de Ilha Solteira-SP. Se estimó el riesgo de infección por virus, bacterias y protozoarios por ingestión cruda de lechuga, repollo y tomate irrigados por aspersión. El número de patógenos se estimó con el número más probable de coliformes fecales registrado en un monitoreo previo realizado a la PTAR. Mediante modelos reportados por la literatura se estimaron el volumen de agua residual remanente en los productos, el decaimiento de los microorganismos y se aplicaron modelos dosis-respuesta para cada microorganismo. Las medianas y el percentil 95 de los riesgos de infección por consumo de lechuga y repollo irrigadas con agua residual cruda o tratada superaron los límites establecidos por la OMS para todos los patógenos, mientras que para tomate en ambos casos el riesgo de infección por Cryptosporidum estuvo debajo de tales límites; para tomate cultivado con efluente tratado la mediana del riesgo de infección por Campylobacter fue menor a los límites de la OMS. El postratamiento del efluente para inactivación de patógenos reduciría los riegos de infección y viabilizaría la irrigación de las culturas analizadas.

Abstract This work has quantitatively evaluated the microbial risk by consumption of crops irrigated with raw affluent and treated effluent from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of Ilha Solteira-SP. It was estimated the risk of infec tion for virus, bacteria and protozoa due ingestion of raw lettuce, cabbage and tomato irrigated by sprinkling. The number of pathogens was estimated with the most probable number of fecal coliforms found at a previous monitoring carried in the WWTP. Using models reported by the literature, the volume of wastewater remaining in the products and the decay of microorganisms were estimated, and dose-response models were applied for each microorganism. The medians and the 95th percentile of the risks of infection by the ingestion of lettuce and cabbage irrigated with raw or treated wastewater were higher than the limits set by the WHO for all pathogens, while for tomato, in both cases, the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium was below the limit; for tomato cultivated with treated effluent, the median of the risk of infection by Campylobacter was lower than the limits set by the WHO. The post treatment of the effluent for inactivation of pathogens would reduce the risks of infection and would allow the irrigation of the analyzed cultures.

ABSTRACT The present experiment was carried out to evaluate the economic viability of supplementing boar diets with organic selenium aiming to increase the number of seminal doses of sexually mature boars. Twelve boars were divided into three groups: control group received 0.3 mg kg−1 Se from sodium selenite (n = 4), inorganic group received 0.5 mg kg−1 Se from sodium selenite (n = 4), and organic group received 0.5 mg kg−1 Se from Sel-PlexTM (Alltech, Inc., n = 4). The experiment was conducted within 10 weeks and analysis was performed fortnightly. No interaction was observed between treatments and weeks for any of the variables analyzed. Boars fed diet supplemented with 0.5 mg kg−1 of organic selenium exhibited a 23% increase in the seminal doses, which resulted in a 37% reduction in the cost of diet per dose produced by boars in this group compared with boars in the inorganic group. It should be pointed out that the total revenue produced by the organic group was 26% higher than the inorganic group. The feeding of organic Se increases the number of seminal doses and reduces the average cost of the diet, demonstrating to be cost-effective.

ABSTRACTPurpose:The aim of this study was to identify possible protein biomarkers and/or candidates for therapeutic targets in tissues of patients with SCCP, infected by HPV, applying one dimensional electrophoresis (1DE), followed by direct mass spectrometry (MS) analysis.Materials and Methods:Tissues from 10 HPV positive patients with SCCP and from 10 patients with HPV negative non-tumorous penile foreskins were analyzed applying 1D electrophoresis, followed by analysis with direct mass spectrometry (MS).Results:Sixty-three different proteins were identified in the first group and 50 in the second group. Recognition was possible for 28 proteins exclusively detected in Group 1 and 21 proteins presented only in Group 2.Conclusion:Some proteins in the first group are directly involved in the development of other types of cancer, and therefore, suitable for analysis. Complement C3 protein is a strong candidate for evaluating SCCP patients.

Objective This study assessed the effect of fluoride varnishes on the progression of tooth erosion in vitro. Material and Methods: Forty-eight enamel and 60 root dentin samples were previously demineralized (0.1% citric acid, pH 2.5, 30 min), leading to a baseline and erosive wear of 12.9 and 11.4 µm, respectively. The samples were randomly treated (6 h) with a 4% TiF4 varnish (2.45%F-, pH 1.0), a 5.42% NaF varnish (2.45%F-, pH 5.0), a placebo varnish and no varnish (control). The samples were then subjected to erosive pH cycles (4x90 s/day in 0.1% citric acid, intercalated with artificial saliva) for 5 days. The increment of the erosive tooth wear was calculated. In the case of dentin, this final measurement was done with and without the demineralized organic matrix (DOM). Enamel and dentin data were analyzed using ANOVA/Tukey’s and Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn tests, respectively (p<0.05). Results The TiF4 (mean±s.d: 1.5±1.1 µm) and NaF (2.1±1.7 µm) varnishes significantly reduced enamel wear progression compared to the placebo varnish (3.9±1.1 µm) and control (4.5±0.9 µm). The same differences were found for dentin in the presence and absence of the DOM, respectively: TiF4 (average: 0.97/1.87 µm), NaF (1.03/2.13 µm), placebo varnish (3.53/4.47 µm) and control (3.53/4.36 µm). Conclusion The TiF4 and NaF varnishes were equally effective in reducing the progression of tooth erosion in vitro.

INTRODUÇÃO: O Mineral Trióxido Agregado (MTA) é composto por cimento Portland (CP) e um radiopacificador (óxido de bismuto).OBJETIVO: Avaliar tempo de presa, solubilidade, pH, liberação de íons Cálcio e radiopacidade do cimento Portland puro ou associado a quatro radiopacificadores (sulfato de bário, carbonato de bismuto, óxido de bismuto e iodofórmio), comparados ao MTA branco (Angelus, Londrina, Brasil).MATERIAL E MÉTODO: A proporção empregada CP/radiopacificador foi de 4:1 em peso, (80% de cimento Portland e 20% de radiopacificador). A especificação 57 da ADA foi usada para avaliação do tempo de presa. A solubilidade foi analisada segundo a especificação ISO 6876/2001. A avaliação do pH foi realizada com peagâmetro digital e a liberação de íons Ca++foi verificada por meio de espectrofotômetro de absorção atômica. A radiopacidade foi determinada em milímetros de alumínio (mm/Al). Os resultados foram submetidos aos testes de Análise de Variância e Tukey, nível de significância 5%.RESULTADO: O sulfato de bário não alterou o tempo de presa final do CP. Radiopacidade inferior ao mínimo recomendado pelas normas da ADA nº 57 e ISO 6876/2001 foi observada para CP e CP associado com sulfato de bário. O CP associado ao iodofórmio apresentou solubilidade acima dos 3% recomendados pela ISO 6876/2001. Todos os materiais proporcionaram alcalinização do meio e promoveram liberação de íons cálcio.CONCLUSÃO: Carbonato de bismuto ou óxido de bismuto proporcionaram tempo de presa inicial, solubilidade, pH, liberação de íons Cálcio e radiopacidade adequados quando associados ao CP.

INTRODUCTION: Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) is composed of Portland cement (PC), and a radiopacifier (bismuth oxide).OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the setting time, solubility, pH, calcium ion release and radiopacity of pure Portland cement and its association to four radiopacifiers, (Barium sulfate, bismuth carbonate, bismuth oxide and iodoform), and White MTA (Angelus, Londrina, Brazil).MATERIAL AND METHOD: The ratio CP/radiopacifier used was 4:1 by weight (80% Portland cement and 20% radiopacifier). The setting time was evaluated according the specification ADA 57. The solubility was analyzed according to ISO 6876/2001 specification. The pH was evaluated using a digital pHmeter and the release of Ca++ ions by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The radiopacity was measured in millimeters of aluminum (mm/Al). The results were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey tests using 5% of significance level.RESULT: Barium sulfate did not alter the final setting time of the PC. Observed radiopacity was less than the minimum recommended by ADA 57 and ISO 6876/2001 for CP and CP associated with barium sulfate. The PC associated with iodoform showed solubility above the 3% recommended by ISO 6876/2001. All materials provided alkalinization and promoted calcium ion release.CONCLUSION: Bismuth carbonate and bismuth oxide provided proper initial setting time, solubility, pH, calcium ion release and radiopacity when combined with CP.

Fluoride varnishes play an important role in the prevention of dental caries, promoting the inhibition of demineralization and the increase of remineralization. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the amount of fluoride released into water and artificial saliva from experimental TiF4 and NaF varnishes, with different concentrations, for 12 h. Material and Methods: Fluoride varnishes were applied on acrylic blocks and then immersed in 10 ml of deionized water and artificial saliva in polystyrene bottles. The acrylic blocks were divided in seven groups (n=10): 1.55% TiF4 varnish (0.95% F, pH 1.0); 3.10% TiF4 varnish (1.90% F, pH 1.0); 3.10% and 4% TiF4 varnish (2.45% F, pH 1.0); 2.10% NaF varnish (0.95% F, pH 5.0); 4.20% NaF varnish (1.90% F, pH 5.0); 5.42% NaF varnish (2.45% F, pH 5.0) and control (no treatment, n=5). The fluoride release was analyzed after 1/2, 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 h of exposure. The analysis was performed using an ion-specific electrode coupled to a potentiometer. Two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni's test were applied for the statistical analysis (p<0.05). Results: TiF4 varnishes released larger amounts of fluoride than NaF varnishes during the first 1/2 h, regardless of their concentration; 4% TiF4 varnish released more fluoride than NaF varnishes for the first 6 h. The peak of fluoride release occurred at 3 h. There was a better dose-response relationship among the varnishes exposed to water than to artificial saliva. Conclusions: The 3.10% and 4% TiF4 -based varnishes have greater ability to release fluoride into water and artificial saliva compared to NaF varnish; however, more studies must be conducted to elucidate the mechanism of action of TiF4 varnish on tooth surface.

RESUMO É reconhecido que infecções por papilomavírus humanos de alto risco (HPV) são causa necessária, mas não suficiente para o desenvolvimento do câncer cervical. Recentemente, estudos de silenciamento gênico apontaram que a hipermetilação do gene p16INK4A é importante co-fator para a carcinogênese cervical, eliminando a função supressora de tumor da proteína p16 em lesões malignas. Entretanto poucos estudos avaliaram a relação da metilação com a progressão da doença. Nosso objetivo foi investigar o padrão de metilação do gene P16INK4A em diferentes graus de lesão cervical e sua associação com a infecção por diferentes tipos de HPV. Nosso estudo de corte transversal avaliou 141 amostras cervicais de pacientes atendidas no Hospital Moncorvo Filho, Rio de Janeiro. A detecção e tipagem do HPV foi realizada pela técnica de reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR), e a metilação do gene P16INK4A pela PCR-metilação específica em formato nested (MSP). A frequência de HPV foi de 62,4% (88/141). O tipo mais prevalente foi o HPV16 (37%), seguido pelo HPV18 (16,3%) e HPV33/45 (15,2%). Curva ascendente foi observada quanto ao padrão de metilação do gene P16INK4A e o grau da lesão: a metilação foi identificada em somente 10,7% das amostras de epitélio normal, em 22,9% das lesões de baixo grau, em 57,1% das lesões de alto grau e em 93,1% dos carcinomas (p < 0,0001). Foram feitas análises univariada e multivariada a fim de correlacionar metilação, idade, exposição ao tabaco, infecção e genótipo de HPV. Foi encontrada correlação da metilação com a infecção pelo HPV (p < 0,0001), genótipos de alto risco (p = 0,01), lesões de alto grau (p < 0,0007) e câncer (p < 0,0001). Uma vez que infecções pelo HPV e alterações epigenéticas mostraram forte associação estatística com o carcinoma cervical, sugerimos que estes padrões de metilação possam ser avaliados como potenciais biomarcadores, combinados à detecção dos HPV oncogênicos para identificação de pacientes em risco de câncer.

SUMMARY High-risk human papillomavirus (hr-HPV) infection is necessary but not sufficient for cervical cancer development. Recently, P16INK4A gene silencing through hypermethylation has been proposed as an important cofactor in cervical carcinogenesis due to its tumor suppressor function. We aimed to investigate P16INK4A methylation status in normal and neoplastic epithelia and evaluate an association with HPV infection and genotype. This cross-sectional study was performed with 141 cervical samples from patients attending Hospital Moncorvo Filho, Rio de Janeiro. HPV detection and genotyping were performed through PCR and P16INK4A methylation by nested-methylation specific PCR (MSP). HPV frequency was 62.4% (88/141). The most common HPV were HPV16 (37%), HPV18 (16.3%) and HPV33/45(15.2%). An upward trend was observed concerning P16INK4A methylation and lesion degree: normal epithelia (10.7%), low grade lesions (22.9%), high grade (57.1%) and carcinoma (93.1%) (p < 0.0001). A multivariate analysis was performed to evaluate an association between methylation, age, tobacco exposure, HPV infection and genotyping. A correlation was found concerning methylation with HPV infection (p < 0.0001), hr-HPV (p = 0.01), HSIL (p < 0.0007) and malignant lesions (p < 0.0001). Since viral infection and epigenetic alterations are related to cervical carcinoma, we suggest that P16INK4A methylation profile maybe thoroughly investigated as a biomarker to identify patients at risk of cancer.

This work aimed to study the probiotics association in 144 piglets from birth to 62 days old. In lactation, the design was completely randomized with two treatments, CTL, 1 mL of distilled water and ProbA, 5g in 15 ml of distilled water, both orally, and in the nursery in randomized block design, with 2x3 factorial arrangement of treatments, ProbA ProbB: 30g/ton of ProbB in the ration; CTL ProbB: 30g/ton of ProbB in the ration; ProbA ProbA, CTL CTL; ProbA CHA (challenged); CTL CHA. At 35 days of age the animal of the nursery were inoculated with Salmonella typhimurium orally. There was no effect of the parameters evaluated during the maternity. In nursery, the feed conversion was favorable to the ProbA. In the evaluation of fecal score, the challenged group had more diarrhea and increased elimination of S. typhimurium. Results showed the positive action of probiotics when applied at birth by the direct influence on the formation of the intestinal microbiota.
