Abstract Introduction: Leptodactylus latinasus and Physalaemus cuqui are sympatric anuran species with similar environmental requirements and contrasting reproductive modes. Climatic configuration determines distribution patterns and promotes sympatry of environmental niches, but specificity/selectivity determines the success of reproductive modes. Species distribution models (SDM) are a valuable tool to predict spatio-temporal distributions based on the extrapolation of environmental predictors. Objectives: To determine the spatio-temporal distribution of environmental niches and assess whether the protected areas of the World Database of Protected Areas (WDPA) allow the conservation of these species in the current scenario and future. Methods: We applied different algorithms to predict the distribution and spatio-temporal overlap of environmental niches of L. latinasus and P. cuqui within South America in the last glacial maximum (LGM), middle-Holocene, current and future scenarios. We assess the conservation status of both species with the WDPA conservation units. Results: All applied algorithms showed high performance for both species (TSS = 0.87, AUC = 0.95). The L. latinasus predictions showed wide environmental niches from LGM to the current scenario (49 % stable niches, 37 % gained niches, and 13 % lost niches), suggesting historical fidelity to stable climatic-environmental regions. In the current-future transition, L. latinasus would increase the number of stable (70 %) and lost (20 %) niches, suggesting fidelity to lowland regions and a possible trend toward microendemism. P. cuqui loses environmental niches from the LGM to the current scenario (25 %) and in the current-future transition (63 %), increasing the environmental sympathy between both species; 31 % spatial overlap in the current scenario and 70 % in the future. Conclusion: Extreme drought events and rainfall variations, derived from climate change, suggest the loss of environmental niches for these species that are not currently threatened but are not adequately protected by conservation units. The loss of environmental niches increases spatial sympatry which represents a new challenge for anurans and the conservation of their populations.

Resumen Introducción: Leptodactylus latinasus y Physalaemus cuqui son especies de anuros simpátricos con requerimientos ambientales similares y modos reproductivos contrastantes. La configuración climática determina los patrones de distribución y promueve la simpatría de los nichos ambientales, pero la especificidad/selectividad determina el éxito de los modos reproductivos. Los modelos de distribución de especies (MDE) son una herramienta valiosa para predecir distribuciones espacio-temporales basadas en la extrapolación de predictores ambientales. Objetivos: Determinar la distribución espacio-temporal de los nichos ambientales y evaluar si las áreas protegidas de la base de Datos Mundial de Áreas Protegidas (DMAP) permiten la conservación de estas especies en el escenario actual y futuro. Métodos: Aplicamos diferentes algoritmos para predecir la distribución y superposición espacio-temporal de nichos ambientales de L. latinasus y P. cuqui dentro de América del Sur en el último máximo glacial (UGM), Holoceno medio, actual y futuro. Evaluamos el estado de conservación de ambas especies con las unidades de conservación de la DMAP. Resultados: Todos los algoritmos aplicados mostraron un alto rendimiento para ambas especies (TSS = 0.87, AUC = 0.95). Las predicciones de L. latinasus mostraron amplios nichos ambientales desde LGM hasta el escenario actual (49 % de nichos estables, 37 % de nichos ganados y 13 % de nichos perdidos), sugiriendo fidelidad histórica por regiones climático-ambientales estables. En la transición actual-futura L. latinasus incrementaría la cantidad de nichos estables (70 %) y perdidos (20 %), sugiriendo fidelidad por regiones de tierras bajas y la posible tendencia hacia el microendemismo. P. cuqui pierde nichos ambientales desde el LGM al escenario actual (25 %) y en la transición actual-futura (63 %), incrementando la simpatría ambiental entre ambas especies; 31 % de superposición espacial en el escenario actual y 70 % en el futuro. Conclusión: Los eventos de sequía extrema y las variaciones de precipitaciones, derivados del cambio climático, sugieren la pérdida de nichos ambientales para estas especies, actualmente no se encuentran amenazadas, pero no están adecuadamente protegidas por las unidades de conservación. La pérdida de nichos ambientales aumenta la simpatría espacial que representa un nuevo desafío para estos anuros y la conservación de sus poblaciones.

Resumen: El nitrógeno en el suelo es crucial para la agricultura, pero a menudo es limitante, afectando el rendimiento de los cultivos. La deficiencia requiere fertilizantes sintéticos, pero su uso inadecuado causa daños ambientales y costos elevados. Las bacterias del género Rhizobium, simbiontes de leguminosas, ofrecen una solución al fijar nitrógeno de manera sostenible, reduciendo la dependencia de fertilizantes. Esta investigación determinó el número más probable (NMP) de células de Rhizobium spp. procedente de dos biofertilizantes comerciales de origen ecuatoriano y mexicano en condiciones de invernadero. Para esto, se realizó la inoculación directa con disoluciones seriadas (10-1 a 10-10) en macetas con pomina esterilizada al vapor, donde se germinaron plantas de frijol ejotero (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) de la variedad Blue Lake. A los 45 días después de siembra (DDS) se evaluaron los siguientes indicadores morfológicos: área foliar, peso de la planta en húmedo, altura de planta y número de flores, determinándose diferencias estadísticas entre el tipo de biofertilizante y la concentración de cada dilución. El experimento se adecuó a un diseño de bloques completos al azar con arreglo de parcela dividida con tres repeticiones por dilución, en consideración de las fluctuaciones de temperatura presentes en la zona de estudio. El NMP, al 95% de confianza, fue de 4,45x107 rizobios g-1 de pomina en una dilución 10-5 para el biofertilizante mexicano, y 1,48x105 rizobios g-1 de pomina en una dilución 10-4 para el biofertilizante ecuatoriano. La dilución óptima estimada para ambos productos fue de 10-8.

Abstract: Soil nitrogen is crucial for agriculture, but it is often limited, affecting crop yields. Deficiency requires synthetic fertilizers, but their improper use results in environmental damage and high costs. Bacteria of the genus Rhizobium, symbionts of legumes, offer a sustainable solution by fixing nitrogen, thus reducing dependence on fertilizers. This research determined the most probable number (MPN) of cells of Rhizobium spp. from two commercial biofertilizers of Ecuadorian and Mexican origin under greenhouse conditions. For this, direct inoculation with serial dilutions (10-1 to 10-10) was performed in pots with steam-sterilized pumice where Blue Lake variety snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) plants were germinated. The following morphological indicators were evaluated at 45 days after sowing (DAS): leaf area, plant wet weight, plant height, and number of flowers, determining statistical differences between the type of biofertilizer and the concentration of each dilution. The experiment followed a randomized complete block design with a split-plot arrangement, with three replicates per dilution, considering temperature fluctuations in the study area. The MPN at 95% confidence was 4.45x107 rhizobia g-1 of pumice at a 10-5 dilution for the Mexican biofertilizer, and 1.48x105 rhizobia g-1 of pumice at a 10-4 dilution for the Ecuadorian biofertilizer. The estimated optimal dilution for both products was 10-8.

Resumen Se trata de paciente del sexo femenino, de 52 años de edad, caucásica, maestra de profesión, sin antecedentes patológicos personales de interés, ingresó a la unidad de cuidados intensivos con neumonía por COVID-19, tras varios tratamientos farmacológicos y 20 días con un patrón ventilatorio restrictivo severo, sin mejoría y finalmente falleció. Se obtuvieron imágenes por radiografía digital y tomografía axial computarizada de tórax, y se realizó estudio histológico pulmonar. La aplicación de los estudios imagenológicos permite observar los cambios histopatológicos para la identificación clínica y la implementación de estrategias terapéuticas eficaces. Se reportan los hallazgos imagenológicos que se corroboraron por el estudio histopatológico.

Abstract This is a 52-year-old Caucasian female patient, a teacher by profession, with no personal pathological history of interest, who was admitted to the intensive care unit with COVID-19 pneumonia, after several pharmacological treatments and 20 days with a severe restrictive ventilatory pattern, without improvement and finally died. Images were obtained by digital radiography and computed axial tomography of the chest, and a lung histological study was performed. The application of imaging studies allows the observation of histopathological changes for the adequate clinical identification of patients and the implementation of effective therapeutic strategies. The imaging findings that were corroborated by the histopathological study are reported.

RESUMEN Introducción: El quiste nasolaveolar, conocido también como nasolabial o de Klestadt, se considera un raro quiste del desarrollo, epitelial y no odontogénico. Aparece en la región del ala nasal, produce asimetría facial, afecta la estética y puede conducir a alteraciones psicológicas. Objetivo: Presentar un caso clínico de quiste nasoalveolar unilateral derecho. Caso clínico: Paciente masculino de 30 años de edad, de color de piel negra, procedencia rural y con antecedentes de salud. Acudió a consulta por presentar aumento de volumen en ala nasal derecha, que producía obstrucción nasal y dificultades al respirar. El examen físico y complementarios imagenológicos revelaron diagnóstico presuntivo de quiste nasoalveolar unilateral derecho. Se procedió a la exéresis quirúrgica de la lesión bajo anestesia local sin complicaciones, el examen histopatológico confirmó el presunto diagnóstico. Conclusiones: El quiste nasoalveolar es una entidad clínica poco frecuente en Cuba y el mundo, su tratamiento es quirúrgico y es baja su recurrencia.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The nasolaveolar cyst, also known as nasolabial or Klestadt, is considered a rare developmental, epithelial and non-odontogenic cyst. It appears in the region of the nasal wing, produces facial asymmetry, affects aesthetics and can lead to psychological disorders. Objective: To present a clinical case of a right unilateral nasoalveolar cyst. Clinical case: A 30-year-old male patient, black, rural origin and with a history of health. He came to the consultation due to presenting an increase in volume in the right nasal wing, which caused nasal obstruction and difficulties in breathing. The physical and complementary imaging examinations revealed a presumptive diagnosis of a right unilateral nasoalveolar cyst. The lesion was surgically removed under local anesthesia without complications and histopathological examination confirmed the presumed diagnosis. Conclusions: The nasoalveolar cyst is a rare clinical entity in Cuba and the world, its treatment is surgical and its recurrence is low.

Abstract Explanations for differences in thermal biology within and between species of lizards employ concepts of phylogenetic inertia and plasticity. We compared the thermal biology of three liolaemid species in the Andean highlands in Argentina: two allopatric congeners (Phymaturus williamsi and P. aguanegra) each in syntopy with Liolaemus parvus. We predicted intra and inter-generic differences in ecophysiological traits and periods of activity at both sites, ecotypic differences between the (labile) Liolaemus populations, but predicted no interspecific differences between the (putatively conservative) Phymaturus. We determined the operative temperatures (T e), field body temperatures (T b), preferred temperatures (T pref), effectiveness of thermoregulation (E), and activity periods. As expected, P. williamsi differed from L. parvus in T b, T pref, and activity periods, likely as result of niche segregation. Contrary to predictions, the Phymaturus populations exhibited differentiation in T b and T pref, while L. parvus populations differed in T pref and E. Accordingly, Phymaturus species tend to be effective thermoregulators whereas L. parvus populations behave as good thermoregulators or thermoconformers depending on thermal conditions in fluctuating habitats. Phymaturus may be less evolutionarily conservative than previously suggested. Resumen Introducción : La epilepsia mioclónica juvenil (EMJ) es un síndrome epiléptico de inicio en la infancia y ado lescencia con mioclonías, convulsiones tónico-clónicas generalizadas y ausencias. Los estímulos reflejos como la sensibilidad a la luz o fotosensibilidad, la apertura y cierre palpebral y la inducción por praxias producen descargas epileptiformes y crisis. Estos desencadenan tes reflejos no son todos sistemáticamente estudiados. Objetivo : Examinar los rasgos reflejos en pacientes con EMJ. Métodos : Se evaluaron en forma consecutiva 100 adolescentes y adultos con EMJ que recibían diferentes tratamientos anticrisis. Se realizó un electroencefalogra ma standard con un protocolo de estimulación luminosa intermitente (ELI) y otro para la evaluación de las pra xias a través de una actividad neurocognitiva (ANC). El análisis estadístico fue descriptivo y de correlación. Se consideró significativa una p > 0.05. Resultados : La edad actual fue de 28+/-11 (14-67). Las crisis comenzaron a los 15 años +/-3 (Rango 8-25 años). EL 58% presentaron mioclonías y convulsiones tónico clónicas generalizadas. El 50% recibían ácido valproico y el 31% continuaban con crisis. Descargas epileptiformes en reposo 20%; hiperventilación 30%; apertura y cierre palpebral 12%; respuesta fotoparoxística en la ELI 40%; ANC 23%. Mayor porcentaje de descargas y demora en la realización de la ANC en los que presentaban crisis. El ácido valproico comparado con los otros fármacos no demostró superioridad en el control de las crisis. Conclusiones : Estos hallazgos confirman la importan cia del estudio de los rasgos reflejos para el diagnóstico, seguimiento y el control terapéutico.

Abstract Introduction : Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is an epileptic syndrome with onset in childhood and adolescence with myoclonus, absences, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Reflex stimuli such as sensitivity to light or photosensitivity, eyelid opening and closing, and praxis induction produce epileptiform discharges and seizures. These reflex triggers are not all system atically studied. Objective : Examine reflex features in patients with JME. Methods : One hundred adolescents and adults with JME who received different anti-seizure treatments were evaluated consecutively. A standard electroen cephalogram was performed with an intermittent light stimulation (SLI) protocol and another for the evaluation of praxias through neurocognitive activity (CNA). The statistical analysis was descriptive and of correlation with a p > 0.05. Results : Current age was 28+/-11 (14-67). The seizure began at 15 years +/-3 (Range 8-25 years). They pre sented myoclonus and generalized tonic-clonic seizures in 58%. 50% received valproic acid and 31% continued with seizures. Epileptiform discharges at rest 20%; hy perventilation 30%; eyelid opening and closing 12%; photoparoxysmal response in SLI 40%; CNA 23%. Higher percentage of discharges and delay in performing CNA in those who presented seizures. Valproic acid com pared to other drugs did not demonstrate superiority in seizure control. Conclusions : These findings confirm the importance of studying reflex traits for diagnosis, follow-up, and therapeutic control.

ABSTRACT Production and service capabilities are variables that influence decision-making in business management. Capacity management has become a tool that interrelates the company and countries with the demand forecast. This article aims to expose how the comprehensive analysis of capabilities in logistics systems is used as the basis for business management decision-making. For this, the Second Generalization of Capacity Calculation (SGCC) is presented as a mathematical formulation for the calculation of the capacities of any logistic process and system; this is the fundamental contribution of this work. For validation of the SGCC as a general algorithm for every type of process, 24 study cases of different characteristics, contexts, and countries were applied to this formulation. As casuistic evidence, the case of the dairy industry is exemplified; here the algorithm is used to decide the possibility of developing new products and as support for the technical phase of the investment analysis, always with the objective of satisfying current and future customer demand.

RESUMEN Las capacidades de producción y servicios son variables que influyen en la toma de decisiones en la gestión empresarial. La gestión de las capacidades se ha convertido en los últimos años en una herramienta que interrelaciona a la empresa y los países, con la previsión de la demanda. Este artículo tiene como objetivo exponer cómo el análisis integral de las capacidades en los sistemas logísticos se emplea como base de la toma de decisiones de gestión empresarial. Para ello, se presenta la Segunda Generalización del Cálculo de Capacidad (SGCC) como formulación matemática para el cálculo de las capacidades de cualquier proceso y sistema logístico, constituyendo esto uno de los aportes fundamentales de este trabajo. Para la validación de la SGCC como algoritmo general, se listan 24 casos de estudios de diferentes características, contextos y países donde fue aplicada esta formulación. Como evidencia casuística, se ejemplifica el caso de una industria de lácteos donde se emplea el algoritmo para decidir sobre la posibilidad de desarrollar nuevos productos y como soporte a la fase técnica del análisis de inversiones, siempre con la meta de satisfacer la demanda de los clientes actuales y futuros.

Resumen Introducción. La producción de frijol está limitada por la disponibilidad de nitrógeno en el suelo y su baja eficiencia en la fijación biológica de este elemento. La aplicación de un bioestimulante a base de oligogalacturónidos (Pectimorf®) se considera una alternativa para mejorar la nutrición nitrogenada en etapas tempranas del crecimiento, pero se desconoce la efectividad de este producto en etapas posteriores del cultivo. Objetivo. Determinar el efecto de Pectimorf® en indicadores relacionados con la fijación biológica del nitrógeno y en el crecimiento de plantas de frijol común biofertilizadas con Azofert®-F en la etapa de crecimiento R5 (prefloración). Materiales y métodos. La investigación se realizó en el Centro de Ciencias Genómicas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (octubre 2018-marzo 2019) y en el Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Agrícolas en Cuba (noviembre-diciembre 2019). Se realizaron experimentos en condiciones controladas y semicontroladas, en los que se evaluó la aplicación de 10 mg L-1 de Pectimorf® a las semillas junto con Azofert®-F y la aspersión foliar a 5 y 100 mg L-1 en plantas biofertilizadas. Como control se tomaron plantas que solo se trataron con Azofert®-F. Se evaluó la nodulación, indicadores de la fijación biológica del nitrógeno y el crecimiento de las plantas. Resultados. En condiciones controladas, el Pectimorf® estimuló la nodulación, el desarrollo radical e incrementó la actividad nitrogenasa. En los experimentos en condiciones semicontroladas favoreció la nodulación y el crecimiento, destacándose el tratamiento a las semillas y la aspersión foliar (100 mg L-1). El Pectimorf® también aumentó la síntesis de ureidos en los nódulos y el contenido de nitrógeno en las hojas. Este producto mostró más de un 15 % de efectividad con relación a la biofertilización. Conclusiones. La aplicación de Pectimorf® mejoró la fijación biológica del nitrógeno y el crecimiento en la prefloración del frijol común.

Abstract Introduction. Bean production is limited by the availability of nitrogen in the soil and its low efficiency in biological nitrogen fixation. The application of a bio-stimulant based on oligogalacturonides (Pectimorf®) is considered an alternative to improve nitrogen nutrition in early stages of growth, but its effectiveness in later stages of cultivation is unknown. Objective. To determine the effect of Pectimorf® on indicators related to biological nitrogen fixation and the growth of common bean plants bio-fertilized with Azofert®-F during the R5 growth stage (pre-flowering). Materials and methods. The research was carried out at the Genomic Sciences Center of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (October 2018-March 2019) and at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Agrícolas en Cuba (November-December 2019). Experiments were carried out under controlled and semi-controlled conditions, evaluating the application of 10 mg L-1 of Pectimorf® to seeds along with Azofert®-F and foliar spraying at 5 and 100 mg L-1 on bio-fertilized plants. Plants treated only with Azofert® were used as a control. Nodulation, indicators of biological nitrogen fixation, and plant growth were evaluated. Results. Under controlled conditions, Pectimorf® stimulated nodulation, root development, and increased nitrogenase activity. In the semi-controlled conditions, it favored nodulation and growth, with the seed treatment and foliar spraying (100 mg L-1) standing out. Pectimorf® also increased the ureides synthesis in the nodules and the nitrogen content in the leaves. This product showed more than a 15 % effectiveness in relation to bio-fertilization. Conclusions. The application of Pectimorf® improved biological nitrogen fixation and growth during pre-flowering stage of common bean.

RESUMEN Los neurofibromas laríngeos (NFL) son tumores benignos poco frecuentes de localización principalmente supraglótica. Se manifiestan con síntomas obstructivos de la vía aérea. El tratamiento es la resección completa del tumor mediante abordaje endoscópico; se reserva la cirugía abierta para tumores de gran extensión. Se presenta el caso de un paciente pediátrico con localización atípica de NFL asociado a neurofibromatosis tipo 1 (NF1). Se realizó resección endoscópica del tumor y la anatomía patológica informó neurofibroma plexiforme. Es importante sospechar de esta patología en todo niño con estridor inspiratorio atípico progresivo. Se sugiere seguimiento a largo plazo por la alta probabilidad de recidiva.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Bilateral hip arthroplasty using a minimally invasive technique in men represents a surgical challenge due to its infrequency. Objective: To report a case of bilateral coxarthrosis to which bilateral hip arthroplasty was applied by means of a minimally invasive anterior technique. Case presentation: 71-year-old male patient, athlete, active worker and with no medical history. He presented joint pain in the hips until reaching intradomiciliary limitations. X-rays showed severe bilateral coxarthrosis. A bilateral arthroplasty was performed in a surgical time using a minimally invasive anterior technique. Conclusion: Bilateral hip arthroplasty in a surgical time using the minimally invasive anterior technique allows rapid training underway, and restart of work and physical life.

RESUMEN Introducción: La artroplastia bilateral de caderas mediante técnica mínimamente invasiva en hombres representa un reto quirúrgico por su infrecuencia. Objetivo: Reportar un caso de coxartrosis bilateral al que se le aplicó artroplastia bilateral de caderas mediante técnica anterior mínimamente invasiva. Presentación del caso: Paciente masculino de 71 años, deportista, laboralmente activo y sin antecedentes médicos. Presentó dolor articular en las caderas hasta llegar a limitaciones intradomiciliarias. Las radiografías arrojaron una coxartrosis severa bilateral. Se le realizó una artroplastia bilateral en un tiempo quirúrgico mediante técnica anterior mínimamente invasiva. Conclusión: La artroplastia bilateral de caderas en un tiempo quirúrgico mediante la técnica anterior mínimamente invasiva permite un rápido entrenamiento en marcha, reinicio de la vida laboral y física.

Resumen OBJETIVO: Determinar la prevalencia de afecciones susceptibles de ser tratadas mediante un procedimiento intrauterino en una unidad de Medicina Materno Fetal de un hospital de tercer nivel del Occidente de México, en un periodo de nueve años. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio transversal y descriptivo, con revisión de los reportes de ultrasonidos obstétricos practicados en la Unidad de Medicina Materno Fetal del Hospital Civil de Guadalajara Dr. Juan I. Menchaca del 2013 al 2021, con selección de los casos de pacientes con diagnóstico de alguna afectación susceptible de ser intervenida de manera intrauterina. RESULTADOS: Durante el periodo de estudio se practicaron y registraron 103,721 ultrasonidos obstétricos, de éstos se integraron al estudio aquí publicado 257 pacientes con diagnóstico de alguna afectación susceptible de ser intervenida in útero. La prevalencia de afectaciones con posibilidad de ser intervenidas por vía intrauterina fue del 0.47% de la totalidad de pacientes valoradas. La media de edad de las pacientes fue de 24.6 años; 162 (63%) multigestas y 95 (37%) primigestas. Embarazos únicos 193 (75%) y 64 (25%) múltiples. Las semanas promedio de gestación al diagnóstico de la afectación fueron 25.6. CONCLUSIONES: En este ensayo se estimó una prevalencia de 0.47 padecimientos que pueden ser intervenidos in útero, dejando de lado muchas otros en los que los estudios no han demostrado beneficio de una cirugía fetal, ni los beneficios superan los riesgos, si se practica la cirugía de manera prenatal o posnatal.

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of conditions amenable to treatment by an intrauterine procedure in a Maternal-Fetal Medicine unit of a tertiary hospital in western Mexico over a nine-year period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional and descriptive study, with review of obstetric ultrasound reports performed in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit of the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara Dr. Juan I. Menchaca from 2013 to 2021, with selection of cases of patients diagnosed with any condition susceptible to intrauterine intervention. RESULTS: During the study period 103,721 obstetric ultrasounds were performed and recorded, of which 257 patients were included in the study published here with a diagnosis of a condition that could be treated in utero. The prevalence of conditions that could be treated in utero was 0.47% of all patients assessed. The mean age of the patients was 24.6 years; 162 (63%) were multigestational and 95 (37%) primigravid. Singleton pregnancies 193 (75%) and 64 (25%) multiple pregnancies. Mean weeks of gestation at diagnosis of involvement was 25.6. CONCLUSIONS: This trial estimated a prevalence of 0.47% of conditions that can be intervened in utero, leaving aside many others where studies have not demonstrated benefit of fetal surgery, nor do the benefits outweigh the risks, whether surgery is performed prenatally or postnatally.

Resumen OBJETIVO: Determinar el significado clínico y el desenlace obstétrico y perinatal luego de la detección de una protuberancia corial en el estudio de tamizaje del primer trimestre de la gestación. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio de cohorte prospectiva efectuado, de abril del 2019 a diciembre 2021, en pacientes referidas para tamizaje del primer trimestre a una unidad de Medicina y Cirugía Fetal de tercer nivel de referencia (Prenatalia Medicina Fetal San Javier, Guadalajara, Jalisco, México). Criterio de inclusión: pacientes con medición de la longitud cráneo caudal comprendida entre 45 y 84 mm durante el tamizaje prenatal del primer trimestre. Se reportaron los hallazgos ecográficos, se obtuvieron información y datos clínicos relevantes de los expedientes electrónicos y cuando se consideró necesario se contactó al ginecoobstetra tratante y a las pacientes. Se utilizó estadística descriptiva con medidas de tendencia central y dispersión. Para el análisis comparativo se utilizó χ2 y U de Mann Whitney para contrastar diferencias entre grupos. RESULTADOS: Se evaluaron 1359 embarazos y la protuberancia corial se documentó en 19 de ellos. En 9 de 19 casos se asoció con sangrado del primer trimestre, previo a la exploración ecográfica. En 16 de 19 casos se encontraron dimensiones de la protuberancia corial mayores a 10 mm. Además, la protuberancia se asoció con episodios de amenaza de parto pretérmino en 13 de los 19 casos. CONCLUSIONES: La protuberancia corial es un hallazgo poco frecuente durante el tamizaje del primer trimestre que se asocia con sangrado y episodios de amenaza de parto pretérmino.

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To determine the clinical significance and obstetric and perinatal outcome after detection of a chorionic protrusion in the first trimester screening study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective cohort study performed in patients referred for first trimester screening to a third level referral Fetal Medicine and Surgery unit (Prenatalia Medicina Fetal San Javier, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico) from April 2019 to December 2021. Patients with craniocaudal length measurements between 45 and 84 mm during first-trimester prenatal screening were included. Ultrasound findings were reported, relevant clinical information and data were obtained from electronic records, and the treating obstetrician-gynecologist and patients were contacted when necessary. Descriptive statistics with measures of central tendency and dispersion were used. For comparative analysis, 2 and Mann Whitney U were used to contrast differences between groups. RESULTS: 1359 pregnancies were evaluated and chorionic protrusion was documented in 19 of them. In 9 of 19 cases it was associated with first trimester bleeding prior to ultrasound examination. Chorionic protrusion was found to be larger than 10 mm in 16 out of 19 cases. In addition, the protrusion was associated with episodes of threatened preterm labour in 13 of 19 cases. CONCLUSIONS: Chorionic protrusion is a rare finding during first trimester screening that is associated with bleeding and episodes of threatened preterm labour.

Abstract Objective Laparoscopic colectomy has gained acceptance as a standard treatment for benign and malignant colorectal disease, such as diverticular disease and cancer, among others. Same as in open surgery, the laparoscopic approach carries a low risk of small bowel obstruction in the postoperative period, but in laparoscopic surgery, internal hernia after laparoscopic left colectomy may be a cause of small bowel obstruction with a significant risk of morbidity and mortality. This rare complication may be prevented with routine closure of the mesenteric defects created during the colectomy. Methods We present four cases of internal herniation after laparoscopic colectomy. Two cases were after laparoscopic left colectomy and two after laparoscopic low anterior resection. All four cases had full splenic flexure mobilization. Routine closure of the mesenteric defect was not performed in the initial surgery. Results The four patients were treated by laparoscopic reintervention with closure of the mesenteric defect. In two of them, conversion to open surgery was necessary. One of the patients developed recurrent internal herniation after surgical reintervention with mesenteric closure of the defect. All patients were managed without need for bowel resection, and mortality rate was 0%. Conclusion Internal herniation after laparoscopic colorectal surgery is a highly morbid complication that requires prompt diagnosis and management and should be suspected in the early postoperative period. ABSTRACT Azotobacter vinelandii is a Gram negative that undergo a morphological and physiological differentiation process to form cysts resistant to desiccation. The main components of a cyst are alkylresorcinols (ARs), phenolic lipids of 21 to 23 C. These lipids are homologous to plant ARs, where they have been reported to have antifungal properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal capacities of vegetative cells and cysts of A. vinelandii AEIV. The cysts were visualized by optical microscope and the detection of ARs was performed by thin layer chromatography. Antagonism bioassay were carried out between vegetative cells and cysts against Fusarium brachygibbosum, Aspergillus niger and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. We confirmed the induction of cysts and the presence of ARs of A. vinelandii AEIV. We observed that using 1×103 cysts reduced up to 76.3% (p < 0.05) the growth of the three phytopathogenic fungi and this result was not observed when using vegetative cells or the strain blocked in the synthesis of ARs. This shows that the cysts exert an antagonistic effect on phytopathogenic fungi and do so through the ARs, considering the development of an effective strategy to control pests in fungi that affect postharvest fruits.

Resumen Este artículo reflexiona sobre la política de las asignaciones familiares en Uruguay. Está vigente desde 1943, fue ajustada mediante el uso de las tecnologías y modificada en sus principios originales en 2005, con la llegada del Gobierno del Frente Amplio. Al mismo tiempo, se busca analizar cómo el desarrollo tecnológico, mediante el instrumento de Índice de Carencias Críticas (ICC), que tiene por propósito elegir a los hogares en situación de vulnerabilidad socioeconómica que le son entregadas las asignaciones familiares, modificó la Administración pública uruguaya, las relaciones laborales y la organización del trabajo. En términos metodológicos se revisan leyes de 1943, 2005 y 2007, además de fuentes secundarias de apoyo que evidencien el tipo de personas beneficiarias y recorrido de las asignaciones. La incorporación de las tecnologías tiende a despolitizar la pobreza, mientras que la vigilancia y supervisión de las asignaciones recae en el operador terminal, quien se encarga de la supervisión del software y recolección de los datos digitales.

Summary This article analyses the policy of family allowance (cash transfers) in Uruguay. This mechanism first appeared in 1943; in 2005, during the Frente Amplio government, the use of new technologies brought adjustments to this policy and its original principles. This paper studies how technological improvements and the use of the Critical Deprivation Index (CCI) -whose purpose is to select households in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability that receives family allowances- have modified the Uruguayan public administration, labour relations and the organization of work. The methodology reviewed laws from 1943, 2005, and 2007 and supporting secondary sources provided evidence on profiling changes and the course of allocations. Arguably the incorporation of technologies depoliticizes poverty because monitoring and supervision of allowances correspond to the agent overseeing the software operation and the collection of data.
