ABSTRACT Introduction: the consumption of alcoholic beverages is increasingly frequent in adolescents. This leads to important complications in the individual, family and social order. Objective: to characterize alcohol consumption in students from Iran Durañona Figueredo pre-university institute during September to December 2020. Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, study in students from Iran Durañona Figueredo pre-university institute, Majibacoa municipality, La Tunas province from September to December 2020. The target group comprised 45 students; working with all of them. The following variables were analyzed: age, sex, consumption of alcoholic beverages, state of inebriation, consumption of other drugs and cohabitation with family consumers. Results: the 57,8 % were between 14 and 15 years old. Female sex predominated (64,4 %); the 71,1 % reported consuming alcoholic beverages. Those who consumed alcoholic beverages got to the state of inebriation (75 %). A higher incidence was observed in students from 14 to 15 years (43,8 %). Other drugs such as coffee and cigarettes are consumed by 81,3 % and 75,% respectively. Parents and siblings who consumed alcohol represented the highest percentage of those living with student consumers (59,4 % and 46,9 % in that order). Conclusions: there is a higher incidence of alcohol consumption in males, especially in students from 15 to 16 years old. Most of them got to a state of inebriation; it is common for these adolescents to consume other drugs such as cigarettes and coffee. Living with parents or siblings who consume alcohol is a risk factor.
RESUMEN Introducción: el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas es cada vez más frecuentes en adolescentes. Este acarrea importantes complicaciones tanto en el orden individual como familiar y social. Objetivo: caracterizar el consumo de alcohol en estudiantes del preuniversitario "Irán Durañona Figueredo" durante septiembre a diciembre del 2020. Métodos: estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal en estudiantes del preuniversitario "Irán Durañona Figueredo" del municipio Majibacoa, Las Tunas, durante septiembre a diciembre del año 2020. El universo estuvo constituido por 45 estudiantes; se trabajó con la totalidad de estos. Se analizaron las variables: edad, sexo, consumo de bebidas alcohólicas, estado de embriaguez, consumo de otras drogas y convivencia con familiares consumidores. Resultados: el 57,8 % tenían entre 14 y 15 años. Predominó el sexo femenino (64,4 %). El 71,1 % refirieron consumir bebidas alcohólicas. El 75 % de los que consumen bebidas alcohólicas llegan al estado de embriaguez. Con una mayor incidencia en aquellos de 14 a 15 años (43,8 %). El 81,3 % y el 75 % consumen otras drogas como café y cigarro respectivamente. Los padres y los hermanos consumidores de alcohol representaron el mayor porcentaje de los convivientes con estudiantes consumidores (59,4 % y 46,9 % respectivamente). Conclusiones: existe una mayor incidencia del consumo de alcohol en varones, sobre todo en aquellos de 15 a 16 años. La mayoría llegan hasta el estado de embriaguez; es común que estos adolescentes consuman otras drogas como cigarro y café. Convivir con padres o hermanos consumidores de alcohol representa un factor de riesgo.
