Resumo Os núcleos da base são corpos de neurônios, bem delimitados e com funções específicas, localizados no interior do centro medular branco do cérebro, envolvidos diretamente com o sistema motor, através de uma função moduladora dos movimentos, participando sobremaneira nos processos de planejamento e controle dos movimentos. Os estudos sobre estes núcleos em primatas são reduzidos e na espécie Alouatta belzebul, inexistente. O objetivo do presente estudo foi descrever a morfologia dos núcleos da base do encéfalo de Alouatta belzebul. Para tanto, foram utilizados dez encéfalos de Alouatta belzebul, machos e fêmeas, onde após a remoção e corte coronal do cérebro, realizou-se à técnica de Mayland para evidenciar os núcleos da base. Verificou-se a presença do núcleo caudado, núcleo lentiforme (este formado pelo putâmen, globo pálido medial e globo pálido lateral), claustro e substância negra, que, funcionalmente, estão relacionados com o controle motor. A substância negra faz parte do mesencéfalo e está ainda relacionada com a aprendizagem decorrentes dos efeitos da dopamina, responsável por ativar o sistema de recompensa e vício no telencéfalo e tem ainda, relação com o núcleo rubro que também é um núcleo do mesencéfalo. Em Alouatta belzebul o núcleo rubro está presente. Verificou-se na literatura que a degeneração de células da substância negra pode ocasionar a doença de Parkinson em Macaca fasciculares, e pelo fato do Alouatta belzebul apresentar as mesmas estruturas anatômicas dos núcleos da base do mesencéfalo de Macaca fasciculares, poderia ser utilizado como modelo experimental em estudos clínicos para a doença de Parkinson.

Abstract The basal nuclei are well-defined bodies of neurons with specific functions, located inside the white medullary center of the brain, directly involved with the motor system, participating greatly in the planning and control processes of movements. Studies on these nuclei in non-human primates are small and in the Alouatta belzebul species, nonexistent. The aim of the present study was to describe the morphology of the nuclei at the base of the brain of Alouatta belzebul. Ten male and female Alouatta belzebul brains were used, where after removal and coronal cut of the brain, the Mayland technique was performed to show the basal nuclei. There was the presence of the caudate nucleus, lentiform nucleus (this formed by the putamen, medial globus pallidus and lateral globus pallidus), claustrum and substantia nigra, which, functionally, are related to motor control. The substantia nigra is part of the midbrain and is also related to learning resulting from the effects of dopamine, responsible for activating the reward and addiction system in the telbrain and is also related to the red nucleus, which is also a midbrain nucleus. In Alouatta belzebul the red nucleus is present. It was found in the literature that degeneration of substantia nigra cells can cause Parkinson's disease in Macaca fasciculares, and because Alouatta belzebul has the same anatomical structures in the basal nuclei of the base of Macaca fasciculares, it is suggested that studies of functional evaluation of these structures should be carried out to verify whether Alouatta belzebul can be used as an experimental model for Parkinson's disease.

Com o objetivo de verificar quais são as plantas incriminadas como tóxicas para ruminantes do Sudoeste de Goiás, foram realizadas 108 entrevistas com produtores rurais, médicos veterinários, zootecnistas e agrônomos de 18 municípios da região. Foram apontadas como tóxicas para ruminantes: Brachiaria spp., Enterolobium contortisiliquum, Dimorphandra mollis, Palicourea marcgravii, Pteridium aquilinum e Sorghum vulgare. Adicionalmente, foram informadas intoxicações menos frequentes por Senna occidentalis, Stryphnodendrum obovatum e Manihot esculenta. Casos isolados de intoxicação em bovinos por Asclepias curassavica e Pterodon emarginatus foram descritos por alguns entrevistados. Este trabalho demonstra que intoxicações por plantas tóxicas são frequentes na região avaliada e representam importante causa de prejuízos econômicos aos pecuaristas locais.

The aim of this study was to investigate the toxic plants for ruminants in the Southwestern region of Goiás State, Brazil. 108 people (farmers, veterinarians, zootecnists and agronomists) from 18 counties were interviewed. The following plants were described as toxic for ruminants: Brachiaria spp., Enterolobium contortisiliquum, Dimorphandra mollis, Palicourea marcgravii, Pteridium aquilinum and Sorghum vulgare. In addition, less frequent poisonings by Senna occidentalis, Stryphnodendrum obovatum e Manihot esculenta were reported. Isolated cases of poisoning by Asclepias curassavica and Pterodon emarginatus were described by some interviewers. Based in the results of this research, it is concluded that poisoning by toxic plants are frequent in the studied region and represent important cause of economic losses to the local farmers.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, obter biomembranas de colágeno tratadas em solução alcalina por 72 horas (GE), a partir de centros tendinosos diafragmáticos de equinos e comparar sua biocompatibilidade com membranas conservadas em solução de glicerina a 98% (GG) e membranas não tratadas (GC). As membranas foram implantadas na fáscia interna do músculo reto do abdome de equinos e retiradas, juntamente com os tecidos adjacentes, aos sete, 63 e 126 dias pós-operatórios para a preparação de lâminas histológicas. O estudo histomorfométrico das lâminas revelou processo inflamatório mais intenso para os implantes GG e CC e cicatrização mais rápida para os implantes GE. Concluiu-se que as biomembranas colagênicas tratadas em solução alcalina são mais biocompatíveis do que biomembranas conservadas em glicerina 98%.

The objective of this research was obtain collagen biomembranes treated in alkaline solution for 72 hours (GE) from tendineous diaphragmatic center of equines and compare its biocompatibility with membranes preserved in a glycerin solution 98% (GG) and membranes do not treated (GC). The membranes were implanted in the internal fascia of recto abdominis muscle of equines and removed, with adjacent tissues, seven, 63 and 126 days postoperative for the preparation of histological slides. The histomorphometric study revealed more intense inflammatory process to GG and CC implants and faster healing for GE implants. It was concluded that the collagen biomembranes treated in alkaline solution is more biocompatible than biomembranes preserved in 98% glycerin.

Electrospinning is used to produce fibers in the nanometer range by stretching a polymeric jet using electric fields of high magnitude. Chitosan is an abundant natural polymer that can be used to obtain biocompatible nanostructured membranes. The objectives of this work were to obtain nanostructured membranes based on blends of chitosan and polyoxyethylene (PEO), and evaluate their thermal and morphological properties, as well as their in vitro biocompatibility by agar diffusion cytotoxicity tests for three different cell lines. A nanostructured fibrous membrane with fiber diameters in the order of 200 nm was obtained, which presented a rough surface and thickness ranging from one to two millimeters. The results of the cytotoxicity tests evidenced that the chitosan/PEO membranes are non-toxic to the cells studied in this work. Further, the electrospinning technique was effective in obtaining nanostructured chitosan/PEO membranes, which showed biocompatibility according to in vitro preliminary tests using the cell lines.
