ABSTRACT Salt stress affects the production of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) seedlings. However, the use of alternative substrates can mitigate the deleterious effects caused by using brackish water in irrigation. The aim in this study was to evaluate the emergence and production of zucchini seedlings irrigated with brackish water in different substrates. The experiment was conducted at the Unidade de Produção de Mudas Auroras, belonging to the Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, CE, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 4 × 2 factorial scheme, referring to four substrate compositions (SB1 = soil + sand + castor bean cake - 7:2:1; SB2 = soil + sand + biochar - 7:2:1; SB3 = soil + sand + carbonized rice husk - 7:2:1; and SB4 = soil) and two levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (0.3 and 2.5 dS m-1), with four replicates, with 25 seeds per replicate. Salt stress reduced the emergence percentage, seedling height, root length, shoot, root, and total dry mass and increased the stem diameter of zucchini seedlings. The substrates formulated with castor bean cake, biochar and carbonized rice husk increased the emergence percentage, seedling height, stem diameter, and shoot dry mass of zucchini seedlings. The substrates with castor bean cake and biochar mitigated the effects of salt stress on the emergence speed index and Dickson quality index.

RESUMO O estresse salino afeta a produção de mudas de abobrinha (Cucurbita pepo L.). Porém, a utilização de substratos alternativos pode atenuar os efeitos deletérios o casionados pelo uso de água salobra na irrigação. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a emergência e a produção de mudas de abobrinha irrigada com água salobra em diferentes substratos. O experimento foi conduzido na Unidade de Produção de Mudas Auroras, pertencente à Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, CE, Brasil. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 × 2, referente a quatro composições de substratos (SB1 = solo + areia + torta de mamona - 7:2:1; SB2 = solo + areia + biochar - 7:2:1; SB3 = solo + areia + casca de arroz carbonizado - 7:2:1; e SB4 = solo) e dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0.3 e 2.5 dS m-1), com quatro repetições de 25 sementes cada. O estresse salino reduziu a porcentagem de emergência, altura de plântulas, comprimento da raiz, massa seca da parte aérea, raiz, total e aumentou o diâmetro do caule das plântulas de abobrinha. Os substratos formulados com torta de mamona, biochar e casca de arroz carbonizada aumentaram a porcentagem de emergência, altura de plântulas, diâmetro do caule e a massa seca da parte aérea das plântulas de abobrinha. Os substratos com torta de mamona e biochar mitigaram os efeitos do estresse salino para o índice de velocidade de emergência e para o índice de qualidade de Dickson.

RESUMO Os estresses salino e hídrico afetam o desempenho agronômico da cultura da beterraba (Beta vulgaris L.). Sendo assim, objetivou-se no presente estudo avaliar o efeito da supressão da irrigação na produtividade e qualidade da raiz tuberosa da beterraba sob estresse salino. O experimento foi realizado de fevereiro a maio de 2023, em casa de vegetação da Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado (DIC) em arranjo fatorial 5 × 2, com 5 repetições, corresponde a cinco intervalos de supressões de irrigação: IS1= sem intervalo de supressão de água (testemunha), IS2 = intervalo de supressão dos 20 a 35 dias após a semeadura (DAS), IS3 = intervalo de supressão dos 35 a 50 DAS, IS4 = intervalo de supressão dos 50 a 65 DAS e IS5 = intervalo de supressão dos 65 a 80 DAS e duas condutividades elétricas da água de irrigação: 0,8 e 6,2 dS m-1. O uso de água com salinidade elevada reduziu a massa e o comprimento da raiz tuberosa, bem como a produtividade da raiz tuberosa; entretanto, promoveu aumento no teor de sólidos solúveis da beterraba. O estresse salino afetou negativamente o diâmetro da raiz e o pH no intervalo de supressão de água dos 20 a 35 DAS e dos 50 a 65 DAS. O tratamento com intervalo de supressão de água dos 35 a 50 DAS, proporciona menor desempenho em massa de raiz tuberosa e a produção da beterraba.

ABSTRACT Salt and water stresses affect the agronomic performance of the beet crop (Beta vulgaris L.). The aim of the present study was therefore to evaluate the effect of suppressing irrigation on the yield and quality of the tuberous root of beet under salt stress. The experiment was conducted from February to May 2023 in a greenhouse at the University of the International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará, Brazil. The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 5 × 2 factorial arrangement, with 5 repetitions, corresponding to five intervals of irrigation suppression: SI1= no water suppression interval (control), SI2 = suppression interval from 20 to 35 days after sowing (DAS), SI3 = suppression interval from 35 to 50 DAS, SI4 = suppression interval from 50 to 65 DAS and SI5 = suppression interval from 65 to 80 DAS, and the two levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water: 0.8 and 6.2 dS m-1. The use of water with high salinity reduced the mass and length of the tuberous root, as well as its yield; however, it promoted an increase in the soluble solids content of beet. Salt stress negatively affected root diameter and pH in the water suppression intervals from 20 to 35 DAS and from 50 to 65 DAS. The treatment with water suppression interval from 35 to 50 DAS resulted lower performance in tuberous root mass and yield.

ABSTRACT Semi-arid regions are subject to irregular rainfall distribution, leading to long periods of drought. Therefore, the only way to achieve and ensure production is through irrigation. However, in these regions, brackish water is predominant, requiring the adoption of irrigation strategies for better utilization. In this context, the objective of present study was to evaluate the production and fruit quality of Italian zucchini subjected to brackish water irrigation strategies during phenological stages. A completely randomized design with five treatments was used: S1 = low-salinity water (0.8 dS m-1) throughout the crop cycle; S2 = high-salinity water (3.0 dS m-1) only during germination and growth stages (0-11 DAS); S3 = high-salinity water (3.0 dS m-1) only during the pre-flowering stage (12-22 DAS); S4 = high-salinity water (3.0 dS m-1) only during the fruiting stage (23-42 DAS); S5 = high-salinity water (3.0 dS m-1) only during the harvesting stage (43-63 DAS), with eight replications. Irrigation with brackish water (3.0 dS m-1) during the pre-flowering and fruiting stages negatively affects the length and diameter of Italian zucchini fruits. The average fruit mass, skin thickness, production, and water use efficiency are reduced when zucchini plants were irrigated with water of higher electrical conductivity during the germination and initial growth stages, while the soluble solids content is increased. Under conditions of high salinity, it is possible to irrigate zucchini crop without loss of fruit quality and production throughout the harvesting stage.

RESUMO As regiões semiáridas estão sujeitas à distribuição irregular das chuvas, o que ocasiona longos períodos de estiagem. Deste modo, a única maneira de obter e garantir a produção é utilizando a irrigação, porém, nessas regiões, ocorre a predominância de águas de baixa qualidade (salobras), sendo necessário adotar estratégias de irrigação para melhor aproveitamento. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar a produção e qualidade de frutos da abobrinha italiana submetida a estratégias de irrigação com água salobra nos estágios fenológicos. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos, correspondendo a cinco estratégias de irrigação (E1= água de menor salinidade (0,8 dS m-1) durante todo o ciclo da cultura; E2= água de maior salinidade (3,0 dS m-1) apenas nas fases de germinação e crescimento (0-11 DAS); E3= água de maior salinidade (3,0 dS m-1) apenas na fase de pré-floração (12-22 DAS); E4= água de maior salinidade (3,0 dS m-1) apenas na fase de frutificação (23-42 DAS); E5= água de maior salinidade (3,0 dS m-1) apenas na fase de colheita (43-63 DAS), com oito repetições. A irrigação com água salobra (3,0 dS m-1) durante as fases de pré-floração e frutificação afeta negativamente o comprimento e o diâmetro dos frutos de abobrinha italiana. A massa média dos frutos, a espessura da casca, a produção e a eficiência no uso da água são reduzidas quando irrigados com água de maior condutividade elétrica durante as fases de germinação e crescimento inicial, enquanto o teor de sólidos solúveis é aumentado. Em condições de alta salinidade é possível irrigar a cultura da abobrinha sem perda da qualidade e da produção dos frutos durante toda a fase de colheita.

ABSTRACT Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is an important agricultural crop in Brazil, considered one of the most important oilseed crops cultivated. The use of fertilizer-solubilizing bacteria can mitigate salt stress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the gas exchange, growth, and water use efficiency of the peanut crop irrigated with brackish water under phosphate fertilization and inoculated with bacteria of the genus Bacillus sp. The experimental design used in this study was completely randomized, in a 4 × 2 × 2 factorial scheme, with 5 replicates, referring to the forms of fertilization (F1 - 0% phosphorus, F2 - 50% phosphorus, F3 - 100% phosphorus, and F4 - bovine biofertilizer), presence and absence of the inoculant and two levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (ECw - 0.3 and 4.0 dS m-1). Fertilization with organic fertilizer (100% biofertilizer) and mineral fertilizer (50 and 100% phosphorus) associated with Bacillus sp. mitigated the damage caused by salt stress and promoted greater water use efficiency, chlorophyll index, internal CO2 concentration and stem diameter. The control treatment (without phosphate fertilization and without salt stress) and the application of Bacillus sp. promoted greater performance in net photosynthesis, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, and plant height in peanut plants.

RESUMO O amendoim (Arachis hypogaea) é uma importante cultura agrícola no Brasil, considerada uma das mais importantes oleaginosas cultivadas. O uso de bactérias solubilizadoras de fertilizantes pode mitigar o estresse salino. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as trocas gasosas, o crescimento e a eficiência do uso da água da cultura do amendoim irrigado com água salobra sob adubação fosfatada e inoculada com bactérias do gênero Bacillus sp. O delineamento experimental utilizado neste estudo foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 × 2 × 2, com 5 repetições, referente às formas de adubação (F1 - 0% fósforo, F2 - 50% fósforo, F3 - 100% fósforo e F4 - bovino biofertilizante), presença e ausência do inoculante e dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (CEa - 0.3 e 4.0 dS m-1). As adubações com fertilizante orgânico (100% de biofertilizante) e mineral (50 e 100% de fósforo) associada a Bacillus sp. mitigou os danos causados pelo estresse salino e proporcionou maior eficiência no uso da água, índice de clorofila, concentração interna de CO2 e diâmetro do caule. O tratamento controle (sem adubação fosfatada e sem estresse salino) e a aplicação de Bacillus sp., promoveu maior desempenho na fotossíntese líquida, taxa de transpiração, condutância estomática e altura das plantas em plantas de amendoim.

ABSTRACT The use of Bacillus sp. mitigates salt stress and increases the productive yield in soybean plants. In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the production of soybean grown under different forms of fertilization and salt stress, inoculated with Bacillus sp. The experiment was performed in the experimental area of the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará, Brazil. A completely randomized design was used in a 4 x 2 x 2 factorial scheme, with five replications, corresponding to four forms of fertilization (F1 = 100% of the NPK recommendation; F2 = 50% of the NPK recommendation; F3 = 100% bovine biofertilizer; F4 = organomineral fertilization - 50% NPK + 50% bovine biofertilizer), two electrical conductivities of the irrigation water (ECw - 0.3 and 4.0 dS m-1), with and without inoculation of Bacillus sp. The forms of fertilization organic with 100% of the recommendation through bovine biofertilizer, organomineral fertilization - 50% mineral and 50% organic with bovine biofertilizer, and 50% of the NPK recommendation promote greater productive performance of the soybean crop irrigated with water of lower salinity. Organomineral fertilization - 50% mineral and 50% organic with bovine biofertilizer was more efficient for soybean production, in the absence or presence of Bacillus sp. Salt stress negatively affected the production components of soybean crop under all forms of fertilization.

RESUMO O uso de Bacillus sp. atenua o estresse salino e aumenta o rendimento produtivo em plantas de soja. Neste contexto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a produção da soja cultivada sob diferentes formas de adubação e estresse salino, inoculada com Bacillus sp. O experimento foi realizado na área experimental da Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará. Utilizou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 4 x 2 x 2, com cinco repetições, correspondente a quatro formas de adubação (F1 = 100% da recomendação de NPK; F2 = 50% da recomendação de NPK; F3 = 100% de biofertilizante bovino; F4 = organomineral - 50% de NPK + 50% de biofertilizante bovino), duas condutividades elétricas da água de irrigação (CEa - 0,3 e 4,0 dS m-1), com e sem inoculação de Bacillus sp. As formas de adubação orgânica com 100% da recomendação através de biofertilizante bovino, adubação organomineral - 50% mineral e 50% orgânica com biofertilizante bovino e 50% da recomendação de NPK, proporcionam maior desempenho produtivo da cultura soja irrigada com água de menor salinidade. A adubação organomineral - 50% mineral e 50% orgânica com biofertilizante bovino, foi mais eficiente para produção da cultura da soja, na ausência ou presença de Bacillus sp. O estresse salino afetou negativamente os componentes de produção da cultura da soja em todas as formas de adubação.

ABSTRACT The use of biostimulants may mitigate the deleterious effects of salt stress on plant growth and physiological variables. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the growth, physiology, organic solutes, and visual characteristics of two tropical ornamental species (Celosia argentea and Catharanthus roseus) cultivated with brackish waters and treated with Ascophyllum nodosum extract. The experiment was performed in greenhouse conditions. The experimental design was a complete randomized block arranged in a split-plot scheme. The plots comprised three levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (ECw - 0.5, 2.5, and 4.5 dS m-1), the subplots four concentrations of algae extract (0, 400, 800, and 1200 mg L-1), and the sub-subplots two tropical ornamental herbaceous species [C. argentea and C. roseus]. The salinity of the irrigation water negatively affects the morphological and physiological characteristics of the two species studied, mainly C. roseus. Irrigation with water up to 2.5 dS m-1 favored visual quality and increased the purchasing preference for C. argentea. The use of intermediate concentrations (400 mg L-1) of algae extract (A. nodosum) promoted partial mitigation of the effects of salt stress on biomass production and leaf gas exchange, especially for C. argentea, but these positive responses decreased or disappeared with the intensification of salt stress and the increase in algae extract concentration.

RESUMO O uso de bioestimulantes pode mitigar os efeitos deletérios do estresse salino no crescimento e variáveis fisiológicos. Assim, objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar o crescimento, fisiologia, solutos orgânicos e características visuais de duas espécies ornamentais tropicais (Celosia argentea and Catharanthus roseus) cultivadas utilizando-se águas salobras e tratadas com extrato de Ascophyllum nodosum. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, dispostos em parcelas subsubdivididas, sendo as parcelas constituídas por três níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (CEa - 0,5, 2,5 e 4,5 dS m-1), as subparcelas quatro concentrações de extrato de algas (0, 400, 800 e 1200 mg L-1) e as subsubparcelas de duas espécies herbáceas ornamentais tropicais: C. argentea e C. roseus. A salinidade da água de irrigação afeta negativamente as características morfológicas e fisiológicas das duas espécies estudadas, principalmente C. roseus. A irrigação com água de até 2,5 dS m-1 favoreceu a qualidade visual e aumentou a preferência de compra por C. argentea. O uso de concentrações intermediárias (400 mg L-1) de extrato de alga (A. nodosum) promoveu mitigação parcial dos efeitos do estresse salino na produção de biomassa e nas trocas gasosas foliares, especialmente para C. argentea, mas essas respostas positivas diminuíram ou desapareceram com a intensificação do estresse salino e com o aumento da concentração do extrato de algas.

ABSTRACT The semi-arid region faces problems related to water deficit and the presence of brackish water that compromise crop performance. Therefore, irrigation frequency can enhance the growth of agricultural crops of interest even under salt stress conditions. In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate different irrigation frequencies with water of higher and lower salinity on the agronomic performance of millet. The experiment was conducted from September to November 2020, in the experimental area of the Auroras Seedling Production Unit, belonging to the Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, Ceará, Brazil. The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement, with five repetitions. The first factor corresponded to four irrigation frequencies (F1 - daily irrigation; F2 - irrigation every two days; F3 - irrigation every three days; F4 - irrigation every four days) and the second factor consisted of two levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (0.3 and 5.0 dS m-1). Salt stress (5.0 dS m-1) negatively affected leaf area, plant height, stalk diameter, panicle length, and leaf, stem, panicle, and total dry mass of millet, under daily and four-day irrigation frequencies. Increasing the interval in irrigation frequency to beyond two days negatively affects the agronomic performance of millet crop, regardless of the electrical conductivity of water used (0.3 or 5.0 dS m-1). Under salt stress conditions, adopting irrigation frequencies between two and three days can be a viable alternative for irrigation management in pearl millet crop.

RESUMO A região semiárida apresenta problemas relacionados ao déficit hídrico e presença de água salobra que comprometem o desempenho das culturas. Assim, a frequência de irrigação pode promover melhores condições de desenvolvimento das culturas de interesse agrícola mesmo em condições de estresse salino. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes frequências de irrigação com água de maior e menor salinidade sobre desempenho agronômico do milheto. O experimento foi realizado no período de setembro a novembro de 2020, na área experimental da Unidade de Produção de Mudas Auroras, pertencente a Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira, Redenção, Ceará. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial 4 × 2, com cinco repetições. O primeiro fator corresponde a quatro frequências de irrigação (F1 - irrigação diária; F2 - irrigação a cada dois dias; F3 - irrigação a cada três dias; F4 - irrigação a cada quatro dias) e o segundo consistiu em dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0,3 e 5,0 dS m-1). O estresse salino (5,0 dS m-1) afetou negativamente a área foliar, altura da planta, diâmetro do colmo, comprimento da panícula, massa seca da folha, caule, panícula e total do milheto, sob irrigação diária e cada quatro dias. O aumento do intervalo na frequência de irrigação acima de dois dias afeta o desempenho agronômico do milheto, independente da condutividade elétrica da água (0,3 ou 5,0 dS m-1). Em condições de estresse salino, adotar frequências de irrigação entre dois e três dias pode ser uma alternativa viável para o manejo da irrigação do milheto.

ABSTRACT Arugula is a vegetable with considerable prominence in the commercial sector, so knowing the ideal dose of fertigation and the effects of soil salinity on its agronomic characteristics is essential for good production. The aim of the study was to evaluate the morphological and physiological aspects of arugula, cultivar Broadleaf, at different levels of soil salinity and doses of fertilization via fertigation. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse during two consecutive growing cycles, from May to June and from July to August 2021. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, arranged in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, with four replicates. Treatments consisted of four levels of electrical conductivity of the saturated extract (ECse = 0.57, 1.3, 2.3, and 3.3 dS m-1) and three doses of fertilization via fertigation (F1= 100%, F2= 50%, and F3= 25% of the recommended NPK doses). The variables analyzed were: plant height (cm), number of leaves, leaf area (m2 plant-1), shoot fresh mass and shoot dry mass (g plant-1), leaf water percentage, SPAD, and gas exchange (photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, and internal CO2 concentration). There was a reduction in arugula growth in soil with ECse above 2.1 dS m-1. Fertigation using the full dose of fertilizer recommended for arugula cultivation proved to be an effective strategy for increasing both biomass production and physiological activity.

RESUMO A rúcula é uma hortaliça que apresenta considerável destaque no setor comercial, logo conhecer a dose ideal de fertirrigação e os efeitos da salinidade do solo nas suas características agronômicas é essencial para uma boa produção. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar os aspectos morfológicos e fisiológicos da rúcula, cultivar ‘folha larga’ em diferentes níveis de salinidade do solo e doses de adubação via fertirrigação. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, durante dois ciclos de cultivo consecutivos, durante os meses de maio a junho e julho a agosto de 2021. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, arranjados em esquema fatorial 4 x 3, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de quatro níveis de condutividade elétrica do extrato saturado (CEes = 0,57, 1,3, 2,3 e 3,3 dS m-1) e três doses de adubação via fertirrigação (F1= 100%, F2= 50% e F3= 25% das doses de NPK recomendada). As variáveis analisadas foram: altura de planta (cm), número de folhas, área foliar (m2 planta-1), massa fresca da parte aérea e massa seca da parte aérea (g planta-1), umidade foliar, SPAD e trocas gasosas (fotossíntese, transpiração, condutância estomática e concentração interna de CO2). Houve redução no crescimento da rúcula no solo com CEes acima de 2,1 dS m-1. A fertirrigação utilizando a dose completa de adubação recomendada para a cultura da rúcula, demonstrou ser uma estratégia eficaz para aumentar tanto a produção de biomassa quanto a atividade fisiológica das plantas.

ABSTRACT Excess salts in irrigation water affect the production potential of agricultural crops; however, the use of plant mulch can mitigate salt stress. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the yield of sorghum crop under salt stress and different strategies for using plant mulch. The experiment was conducted under field conditions from July to October 2021, in the municipality of Redenção, Ceará, in the Baturité Massif region, Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, referring to the mulching strategies (MS1: with mulch throughout the cycle; MS2: without mulch throughout the cycle; MS3: with mulch during stage 1 = germination until panicle initiation; MS4: with mulch during stage 2 = panicle initiation until flowering; MS5: with mulch during stage 3 = flowering until physiological maturity) and two levels of electrical conductivity of water - ECw (0.8 dS m-1 and 6.0 dS m-1), with 4 repetitions. Using plant mulch throughout the cycle and the control treatment are more efficient for panicle weight. Using plant mulch throughout the cycle under irrigation mitigates salt stress and promotes greater yield in sorghum. From the beginning of panicle appearance until flowering, irrigation with water of lower salinity led to higher yield.

RESUMO O excesso de sais na água de irrigação afeta o potencial produtivo das culturas agrícolas, no entanto, o uso de cobertura morta vegetal pode mitigar o estresse salino. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar a produtividade da cultura do sorgo sob estresse salino em diferentes estratégias de uso de cobertura morta vegetal. O experimento foi conduzido em condições de campo no período de julho a outubro de 2021, no município de Redenção, Ceará, na região do Maciço de Baturité. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 5x2, referentes às estratégias com uso de cobertura morta vegetal: EC1: com cobertura durante todo o ciclo; EC2: sem cobertura durante todo o ciclo; EC3: com cobertura durante a fase 1 = germinação até a iniciação da panícula); EC4: com cobertura durante a fase 2= iniciação da panícula até o florescimento; EC5: com cobertura durante a fase 3= floração até a maturação fisiológica; e dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água - CEa (0,8 dS m-1 e 6,0 dS m-1), com 4 repetições. O uso de cobertura durante todo o ciclo e o tratamento controle são mais eficientes para a massa da panícula. O uso da cobertura morta vegetal durante todo o ciclo sob irrigação atenua o estresse salino e promove maior produtividade. No início do aparecimento da panícula até o florescimento, a irrigação com água de menor salinidade evidenciou maior produtividade.

ABSTRACT For the use of saline waters in agriculture to be a viable option, solutions must be adopted to mitigate the impacts caused by these waters. In this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the foliar application of algae (Ascophyllum nodosum) extract as a strategy to mitigate the deleterious effects of salinity on the production and post-harvest variables of the ‘BRS 324’ sunflower. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with a split-split-plot arrangement, composed of four salinity levels of water (1.2, 3.0, 4.5, and 6.0 dS m-1) and four doses of algae extract (0, 100, 150, and 200% of recommended dose) in two crop cycles, with four blocks. The 100% of the recommended dose (32 mg L-1) of the algae extract positively influenced the 1000-achenes weight (increases of 6.05 and 3.63% for the levels of 1.2 and 3.0 dS m-1, respectively) and the achene yield (increments of 7.07 and 4.59% for the levels of 1.2 and 3.0 dS m-1). The algae extract did not influence the oil and protein content and yield. The increase in salinity levels reduced all variables studied. Algae extract mitigated the deleterious effects of salinity on 1,000-achene weight and yield of achenes at the lowest water salinity level (1.2 dS m-1). The most effective dose of the algae extract to mitigate the negative effects of salinity on the 1,000-achene weight and achene yield was 100% (32 mg L-1) of the recommendation of the extract.

RESUMO Para que o uso de águas salinas na agricultura seja uma opção viável é necessário que soluções sejam adotadas para atenuar os impactos provocados por essas águas. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se avaliar a aplicação foliar de extrato de algas (Ascophyllum nodosum) como estratégia para atenuar os efeitos deletérios da salinidade sobre as variáveis de produção e pós-colheita do girassol ‘BRS 324’. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com esquema de parcelas sub-sub-divididas, composto por quatro níveis de salinidade da água (1,2; 3,0; 4,5 e 6,0 dS m-1) e quatro doses do extrato de algas (0, 100, 150 e 200% da dose recomendada), em dois ciclos de cultivos, com quatro blocos. A dose de 100% da recomendação (32 mg L-1) do extrato influenciou positivamente o peso de 1.000 aquênios (acréscimos de 6,05 e 3,63% para os níveis de 1,2 e 3,0 dS m-1, respectivamente) e o rendimento de aquênios (incrementos de 7,07 e 4,59% para os níveis de 1,2 e 3,0 dS m-1). O teor de óleo e proteína, rendimento de óleo e proteína não foram significativamente influenciados pelo extrato. Os níveis crescentes de salinidade reduziram todas as variáveis estudadas. O extrato de algas mitigou os efeitos deletérios da salinidade no peso de 1.000 aquênios e na produção de aquênios no nível mais baixo da salinidade da água (1,2 dS m-1). A dose mais eficaz do extrato para mitigar os efeitos negativos da salinidade no peso de 1.000 aquênios e no rendimento de aquênios foi 100% da recomendação do extrato (32 mg L-1).

ABSTRACT Zucchini may present different responses to the presence of salts in its phenological phases, and the supply of potassium can interfere with assimilate allocation dynamics, maximizing production. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of brackish water irrigation strategies at different phenological stages under potassium fertilization on the yield and quality of italian zucchini fruits. A completely randomized design was adopted in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, with the application of different irrigation strategies (S1, S2, S3 and S4) based on crop phenology using two electrical conductivities (ECw) (W1: 0.3 dS/m; W2: 2.6 dS/m). (S1= W1 throughout the crop cycle; S2= W1 up to flowering and early fruiting, and W2 during the full fruiting and harvesting phases; S3= W2 during flowering and early fruiting, and W1 during full fruiting and harvesting; S4= W1 up to flowering and early fruiting, W2 during the full fruiting phase, and W1 during harvesting), with three potassium doses (K1= 0, K2= 7.5, and K3= 15 g/plant), and four replications. Saline stress at any stage reduces fruit quality, in addition to resulting in lower productivity and water use efficiency. Doses of 50 (K2) and 100% (K3) potassium provided lower productivity and water use efficiency. Further analyses and research are required to determine the ideal dose for crops under similar conditions of this study.

RESUMO A abobrinha pode apresentar diferentes respostas à presença de sais nas suas fases fenológicas e a oferta de K pode interferir na dinâmica de alocação de assimilados, maximizando a produção. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de estratégias de irrigação com água salobra em diferentes estágios fenológicos sob adubação potássica na produtividade e qualidade de frutos de abobrinha italiana. Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente aleatorizado em esquema fatorial 4 x 3, sendo aplicação de estratégias de irrigação (S1, S2, S3 e S4) com base na fenologia da cultura utilizando duas condutividades elétricas (ECw) (W1: 0,3 dS/m e W2: 2,6 dS/m), (S1= W1 em todo o ciclo da cultura; S2 = W1 até o florescimento e início da frutificação e W2 nas fases de plena frutificação e colheita; S3 = W2 no florescimento e início da frutificação e W1 nas fases de plena frutificação e colheita; S4 = W1 até o florescimento e início da frutificação, W2 na fase de plena frutificação e W1 na colheita), com três doses de potássio (K1= 0, K2= 7,5 e K3= 15 g/planta), e quatro repetições. O estresse salino em qualquer fase reduz a qualidade dos frutos, além de ocasionar menor produtividade e eficiência no uso da água. As doses de 50 (K2) e 100% (K3) de potássio proporcionaram menor produtividade e eficiência no uso da água. São necessárias maiores análises e pesquisas com intuito de determinar a dose ideal para cultivos em condições similares às do presente estudo.

ABSTRACT In semi-arid regions, the use of brackish water for irrigation can reduce crop yields. However, the use of mineral fertilizer has been tested to mitigate salt stress. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the effect of salt stress at different phenological stages on the yield of peanut under potassium fertilization. The experiment was carried out from August to November 2021, in the experimental area of the Universidade da Integração da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized (CRD), in a 6 × 3 factorial scheme, with 6 replicates. Six strategies of irrigation with brackish water were applied from the following stages: vegetative (S1); flowering (S2); gynophore appearance (S3); pod formation (S4); fruiting (S5) and without salt stress (S6), and three doses of potassium: 0, 50 and 100% of the recommended dose. The use of brackish water in the vegetative stage led to lower pod length, pod mass, number of pods, number of marketable pods and yield. The dose corresponding to 100% of the recommended potassium dose mitigated salt stress in the pod formation and flowering stages, promoting a greater number of marketable pods, number of non-marketable pods, total number of pods and pod mass. The use of water with lower salinity throughout the cycle promoted greater pod mass, number of marketable pods and yield.

RESUMO Em regiões semiáridas, o uso de águas salobras na irrigação pode reduzir o rendimento das culturas. No entanto, a utilização da adubação mineral vem sendo testada para mitigar o estresse salino. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do estresse salino em diversos estágios fenológicos na produtividade do amendoim, sob adubação potássica. O experimento foi realizado no período de agosto a novembro de 2021, na área experimental da Universidade da Integração da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado (DIC), em um esquema fatorial 6 × 3, com 6 repetições. Foram utilizadas seis estratégias de irrigação com água salobra a partir das seguintes fases: vegetativa (S1); florescimento (S2); aparecimento dos ginóforos (S3); formação de vagens (S4); frutificação (S5) e sem estresse salino (S6) e três doses de potássio; 0, 50 e 100% da dose recomendada. O uso de água salobra na fase vegetativa evidenciou menor comprimento da vagem, massa das vagens, número de vagem, número de vagens comerciais e produtividade. A dose correspondente à 100% recomendada de potássio mitigou o estresse salino nas fases de formação de vagens e floração, proporcionando maior número de vagem comercial, não comercial e total e massa de vagem. O uso de água de menor salinidade durante todo o ciclo proporcionou maior massa de vagem, número de vagens comerciais e produtividade.

ABSTRACT Phosphate fertilization can mitigate the deleterious effects of salts in the different stages of okra. The objective was to evaluate the effect of the cyclical use of water of lower and higher ECw at different phenological stages under phosphorus fertilization on productivity and fruit quality of okra. A completely randomized design was used, in a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, with four irrigation strategies of cyclical use with water of 0.3 dS/m (W1) and 2.0 dS/m (W2) applied in different phenological stages (IS1 = W1 throughout the cultivation cycle; IS2 = W2 in the establishment phase, W1 in the vegetative phase and W2 in the reproductive and maturation phase; IS3 = W1 in the establishment phase and W2 in the vegetative, reproductive and maturation phase; and IS4 = W1 in the establishment and vegetative phase, and W2 in the reproductive and maturation phase, with three doses of phosphorus (0, 50 and 100 kg/ha), and four replications. Cyclic water use of 0.3 dS/m in the establishment and vegetative phase and 2.0 dS/m in the reproductive and maturation phase reduced the thickness of the peel, while for the length of the fruit this reduction was evidenced with the use of water 0.3 dS/m throughout the cycle. Doses of 50 and 100 kg/ha provided greater performance in fruit quality and productivity of okra.

RESUMO A adubação fosfatada poderá mitigar os efeitos deletérios dos sais nas diferentes fases de cultivo do quiabo. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do uso cíclico de água de menor e maior CEa em diferentes estágios fenológicos sob adubação fosfatada na produtividade e qualidade do fruto do quiabeiro. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 x 3, sendo quatro estratégias de irrigação de uso cíclico com água de 0,3 dS/m (A1) e 2,0 dS/m (A2) aplicadas em diferentes estágios fenológicos (EI1 = A1 em todo ciclo de cultivo; EI2 = A2 na fase de estabelecimento, A1 na fase vegetativa e A2 na reprodutiva e maturação; EI3 = A1 na fase de estabelecimento e A2 fase vegetativa, reprodutiva e maturação; e EI4 = A1 na fase de estabelecimento e vegetativa, e A2 na fase reprodutiva e maturação, com três doses de fósforo (0, 50 e 100 kg/ha), e quatro repetições. O uso cíclico de água de 0,3 dS/m na fase de estabelecimento e vegetativa e 2,0 dS/m na fase reprodutiva e maturação reduziu a espessura da casca, enquanto para o comprimento do fruto essa redução foi evidenciada com uso de água 0,3 dS/m durante todo o ciclo. As doses de 50 e 100 kg/ha proporcionaram maior desempenho em qualidade do fruto e produtividade do quiabo.

ABSTRACT Aiming at a more sustainable food production, the reuse of effluent from fish farming in hydroponics can be a viable option. Thus, the objective of present study was to evaluate the effects of the use of effluent from fish farming on the development of ‘Folha Larga’ watercress and the possibility of reducing the use of fertilizer in a hydroponic system. The assay was carried out in a greenhouse from October 2021 to February 2022 (two cycles). The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks, with four replications, with split plots, consisting of two times of recirculation of the solution in the plots (T1 = 15 min operating by 15 min off and T2 = 15 min operating by 30 min off) and five solutions, in the subplots, obtained by mixing different proportions (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) of nutrient solution and effluent from fish farming. The variables analyzed were: plant height, number of leaflets, leaf area, SPAD index, fresh and dry weight of the aerial part and roots. The use of effluent from fish farming reduces the amount of fertilizers for the yield of ‘Folha Larga’ watercress. Nutrient solution recirculation time of 15 minutes is suitable for hydroponic watercress.

RESUMO Visando uma produção de alimentos mais sustentável, a reutilização de efluente da piscicultura na hidroponia pode ser uma opção viável. Assim, objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar os efeitos do uso de efluente da piscicultura no desenvolvimento do agrião ‘Folha Larga’ e a possibilidade de redução do uso de fertilizantes em sistema hidropônico. A pesquisa foi realizada em casa de vegetação entre outubro de 2021 e fevereiro de 2022 (dois ciclos). Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, com parcelas subdivididas, consistindo em dois tempos de recirculação da solução nas parcelas (T1 = 15 min operando por 15 min desligado e T2 = 15 min operando por 30 min desligado) e cinco soluções, nas subparcelas, obtidas pela mistura em diferentes proporções (0, 25, 50, 75 e 100%) de solução nutritiva e efluente da piscicultura. As variáveis analisadas foram: altura de plantas, número de folíolos, área foliar, índice SPAD, massa fresca e massa seca da parte aérea e raiz. O uso de efluente da piscicultura reduz a quantidade de fertilizantes para a produção de agrião ‘Folha Larga’. O tempo de recirculação da solução nutritiva de 15 minutos é adequado para o agrião hidropônico.

RESUMO A melancia é cultivada praticamente em todos os estados brasileiros; entretanto, ainda existem divergências quanto à melhor forma de propagação. Além disso, a região Nordeste, principal região produtora do país, enfrenta cada vez mais a escassez de água com baixos níveis de salinidade. Diante deste contexto, esse estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a morfofisiologia e os teores minerais na cultura da melancia submetida a diferentes condutividades elétricas da água de irrigação, utilizando-se mudas ou semeadura direta. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso com parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. A parcela foi formada pelas condutividades elétricas da água de irrigação (0,3; 1,5; 3,0; 4,5 dS m-1) e a subparcela pelos métodos de plantio - SD = semeadura direta, TP1 = transplantio da muda produzida com água de moderada salinidade (1,5 dS m-1) e TP2 = transplantio da muda produzida com água de baixa salinidade (0,3 dS m-1). O maior acúmulo de biomassa foi obtido no método de plantio por semeadura direta. O estresse salino aumenta a eficiência intrínseca do uso da água em plantas de melancia. ABSTRACT Watermelon is cultivated in practically all Brazilian states; however, there are still disagreements as to the best way to propagate it. In addition, the Northeast region, the main producing region in the country, is increasingly facing the scarcity of low-salinity water. Given this context, this study aimed to evaluate the morphophysiology and mineral contents of the watermelon crop subjected to irrigation water of different electrical conductivities, using seedlings or direct seeding. A randomized block experimental design with split plots was used, with four replications. The plot was formed by the electrical conductivities of the irrigation water (0.3, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 dS m-1) and the subplot by the planting methods - DS = direct seeding, TP1 = transplanting of the seedling produced with water of moderate salinity (1.5 dS m-1), and TP2 = transplanting of the seedling produced with water of low salinity (0.3 dS m-1). The highest biomass accumulation was obtained in the direct seeding method. Salt stress increases the intrinsic water use efficiency in watermelon plants.
