Abstract This article reports on research based on literature in mathematics education to identify, present, and discuss superficialities, biases, and misunderstandings of different orders and various origins concerning the theme of teaching and learning fractions. We produced the research data using a variant of snowballing. After reading one or more relevant articles about our theme, we selected additional articles referenced in the consulted articles that potentially contain relevant information. We grouped the identified superficialities, biases, and misunderstandings into seven categories, each encompassing one or more difficulties. Consequently, we observed that these problematic issues are intertwined with the concepts involved in the subject of fractions when thought of as school mathematical content and are related from the different meanings manifested by fractions in the real world to its notational form, to its existence as a number, to how it is represented physically and pictorially, to the complexity of introducing new and numerous rules regarding its arithmetic, to the forms of conduct preferred by teachers when in the act of teaching. By observing many problematic issues related to the teaching and learning of fractions, we conclude that this theme is an essential front for further theoretical and empirical studies.

Resumo Esse texto relata uma pesquisa que objetivou, a partir de estudo da literatura específica, identificar, apresentar e discutir superficialidades, parcialidades e equívocos de diferentes ordens e variadas origens, ligadas ao ensino e aprendizagem das frações. Para levantar os dados, utilizamos uma variação da metodologia bola de neve, que, a partir da leitura de um ou mais textos notáveis acerca do tema desejado, são elencados novos textos que podem conter informações relevantes. As superficialidades, parcialidades e equívocos identificados foram agrupados em sete categorias, cada qual abrigando uma ou mais dificuldades, fato que revelou que essas questões problemáticas encontram-se, de certo modo, entrelaçadas aos conceitos envolvidos no tema frações quando pensadas como conteúdo matemático escolar, e relacionam-se, desde os diferentes significados manifestados pelas frações no mundo real, passando por sua forma notacional de escrita, por sua existência enquanto número, pelas formas com as quais são representadas física e pictoricamente, pela complexidade da introdução de novas e numerosas regras quanto à sua aritmética, até as formas de condução preferidas por professores quando do ato de ensino. Ao observarmos quantidade significativa de questões problemáticas relacionadas ao ensino e à aprendizagem de frações, concluímos que essa temática se constitui em uma frente importante para estudos teóricos e empíricos adicionais.

Resumo Este artigo é fruto de uma pesquisa que se propôs a investigar, descrever e analisar obstáculos e resistências apontados por professores que ensinam Matemática no Ensino Básico, ao utilizarem alguma tendência metodológica diversa do método tradicional. O corpus de análise da pesquisa foi composto por artigos extraídos de periódicos especializados na área de Educação Matemática e também de áreas afins. Ao todo, foram analisados artigos publicados em 49 periódicos, entre os anos de 1996 e 2016. Com esse recorte, sob a ótica da comunidade de pesquisadores, foi possível identificar dezesseis artigos que traziam evidências de obstáculos e resistências enfrentados por professores que ensinam Matemática. Ao analisar o que tais pesquisas relatam, buscou-se uma descrição dos fenômenos de diferentes naturezas que culminam nos obstáculos e, consequentemente, nas resistências. Para tal, os dados observados foram organizados em cinco categorias: o professor e suas relações com o trabalho; o professor e suas relações com a escola; o professor e suas relações com o currículo; o professor e sua relação com o saber; os alunos e suas relações com as tendências metodológicas. O trabalho de análise possibilitou inferir algumas pistas para entender a existência de obstáculos e resistências e, como resultado, apontaram-se estruturas que compreendem o emocional (sentimentos), os saberes (conhecimento) e as circunstâncias (condições) às quais os docentes estão submetidos. Por fim, o trabalho teve por ensejo provocar reflexões acerca dos motivos que levam alguns docentes a não mudarem antigas práticas que tendem a reproduzir o modelo formativo centrado na transmissão de conteúdo.

Abstract This article is the result of a research that aimed to investigate, describe, and analyze obstacles and resistances pointed out by teachers who teach Mathematics in Basic Education when using some methodological tendency different from the traditional method. The research corpus of analysis evidence was composed of articles extracted from specialized periodicals in Mathematics Education and from related areas. In all, articles published in forty-nine journals from 1996 to 2016 were analyzed. With this cut, from the research community perspective, it was possible to identify sixteen articles that brought evidence of obstacles and resistance faced by teachers who teach Mathematics. By analyzing what such research report, we sought a description of phenomena of different natures that culminate in obstacles and, consequently, in resistance. To this end, the observed data were organized into five categories: the teacher and their relationship with work; the teacher and their relationship with the school; the teacher and their relationship with the curriculum; the teacher and their relationship with knowledge; students, and their relationship to methodological trends. The analysis work made it possible to infer some clues to understand the existence of obstacles and resistances and, as a result, structures were pointed out that comprise the emotional (feelings), knowledge (knowledge) and circumstances (conditions) to which the teachers are submitted. Finally, the work aimed to provoke reflections on the reasons that lead some teachers not to change old practices that tend to reproduce the training model centered on the transmission of content.

Este artigo tem como objetivo descrever e analisar os obstáculos e resistências de professores e futuros professores, egressos de cursos de formação, em desenvolver atividades relacionadas à Modelagem na Educação Matemática nas suas práticas docentes, conforme relatado em dissertações e teses. Para a obtenção dos dados, fez-se um recorte do trabalho de Silveira (2007), no qual se analisam 14 das 65 teses e dissertações sobre Modelagem produzidas entre 1976 e 2005. Os resultados nos mostraram que os professores cursistas apresentam algumas resistências à prática de sala de aula com a Modelagem, sendo que essas resistências se mostram nas relações do professor com o trabalho, com a escola, com o currículo, com os alunos e com a família dos alunos.

This article describes and analyzes obstacles and resistance reported by teachers and future teachers who are university graduates in developing modeling-related tasks in their teaching practices. These teachers were the subject of research reported in theses and dissertations about modeling produced in Brazil. Fourteen out of 65 theses and dissertations about modeling analyzed by Silveira (2007), produced between 1976 and 2005, were analyzed. The results showed that the teachers of the courses presented some resistance to using modeling in the classroom practice, and that this resistance was evident in the relations of the teacher with the work, the school, the curriculum, the students, and the students´ families.
