Resumo Estruturas de concreto armado devem ser projetadas de maneira a garantir um nível aceitável de segurança e desempenho. Porém, acidentes ainda são observados atualmente causando interdições, perdas financeiras, e até mesmo humanas. Portanto, estudos aprofundados são necessários para responder a essas situações indesejáveis, prevenindo sua repetição e desenvolvendo novas formas de dimensionamento e construção. O presente trabalho analisa o mecanismo de falha observado em um extenso painel de concreto armado composto por uma parede em balanço apoiada em um pilar parede, localizados na cidade de Campinas. As investigações foram realizadas in loco utilizando testes destrutíveis e não destrutíveis e também via simulações numéricas. Os testes in loco revelaram que a região onde ocorreu a ruptura localizada não possuía quantidade suficiente de armadura metálica. A linha de fratura se desenvolveu no término das armaduras horizontais da parede. Concluiu-se que a falha do painel ocorreu devido a erros de concepção e dimensionamento, dado que os estribos do pilar-parede foram responsáveis pelo equilíbrio da parte em balanço da edificação, como ficou demonstrado pelo estudo utilizando análise não linear via Elementos Finitos e pelas investigações in-loco.

Abstract Reinforced concrete structures must be designed in a manner that assures an acceptable level of safety and performance. However, accidents still occur nowadays causing interdiction, financial losses, or even human casualties. Therefore, succinct studies are required to give answers to such an undesirable situation, helping to prevent repetition and enlightening new design and construction methods. This paper analyzes the failure mechanism in a large reinforced concrete panel composed of one L-shaped cantilevered wall and structural walls in Campinas. The investigation was carried out using in-situ destructive and non-destructive tests and also through numerical simulation. In-situ tests revealed that the region where the fracture happened had no sufficient resisting steel area. The fracture line developed through the end of the wall’s horizontal rebars anchored within the column. It was concluded that the reinforced concrete panel failure happened due to structure misconception and incorrect design, once columns stirrups were responsible for the equilibrium of the cantilevered part of the building, as demonstrated by the nonlinear finite element study and in-situ investigations.

This paper aims to explore the production of porous Nb2O5 pellets by pressing and adding anaerobic biomass (sludge) in order to evaluate the microstructure porosity. The thermal treatment temperature of the pellets varied between 300 ºC and 900 ºC. Their structural, morphological, and physical properties were measured, and the adsorption potential of Mn2+ and their reuse were evaluated. All samples had a monoclinic phase. Density average values of samples pressed using sludge ranged between 2.45 and 2.52 g.cm-3, while the one obtained without sludge pressing achieved higher values of around 2.72 g.cm-3. All samples presented high porosity values after the heat treatment (above 40%), which confirms the efficiency of sludge as a means to enhance porosity. These pellets were used for Mn2+ ions adsorption in aqueous medium. The Langmuir isotherm model was the one that achieved the best goodness-of-fit. In kinetic studies, the adsorption reaction was in accordance with second-order kinetics. Adsorbents in the form of pellets are environmentally friendly on account of their significant reuse and recycling potential. However, the particulate matter might become an environmental liability and incur high treatment costs. The samples proved to be reusable, promoting the adsorption of 67% of the Mn2+ after the fifth reuse cycle.

ABSTRACT This review aims to provide current information about Q fever, elucidating the etiological, epidemiological, pathogenic, clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prophylactic aspects of the disease for the medical community. We discuss the main forms of presentation of the agent, its ability to persist in the body, the infinite possibilities of susceptible hosts, the main known forms of transmission, its importance in populations at occupational risk, and the role of arthropods in the natural history of the disease. Focusing on Brazil, we present the cases already described and studies developed since its first report, and how there is still much to unravel. We are aware of the possibilities of the persistence of the agent and the development of severe clinical pictures and the specific treatments currently instituted. We also wish to raise awareness about the future, the new genotypes that are emerging, the need to study the effects of vaccines, and the impact of Q fever on the population. Q fever is a poorly understood disease in Latin America, and recent studies, especially in Brazil, have revealed the importance of developing new studies.

Abstract BRS Rendeira and BRS Progresso are cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) cultivars with tolerance to post-harvest deterioration and high mean yields of fresh root (31.1 and 27.9 t ha-1) and starch (8.9 and 8.1 t ha-1) in annual production cycles. Both new varieties are recommended for the flour and starch industry.

Abstract The main objective of this research is to investigate the lithostructural, tectonic, and neotectonic control on the relief of the Pancas region (Espírito Santo, Southeastern Brazil). The methodology was organized into computer and field analyses. In a computer, lineament and structural trend maps were generated from the manual extraction technique using editing tools of ArcGIS 10.3.1™ software (ESRI, 2012) over a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with different artificial illumination (scale 1:110.000) and orientation rosettes were generated. The geological and geomorphological maps were organized/elaborated with ArcGIS from the Geographic Information System (GIS). The cartographic bases were configured in the UTM projection system, and DATUM SIRGAS 2000, zone 24S, and later analyzed and compared with the data of the orientations of the dedicated lineaments, with the orientation of the studied outcrop failures and with the existing literature. The results presented NW-SE/NNW-SSE and NE-SW/NNE-SSW orientations, with the predominance of NNW-SSE and NW-SE orientations identified in the analysis of the lineaments and structural trends, similar to the orientations of the geological faults and neotectonic faults present in the studied area, reflecting the regional structuring of the area, presenting the same orientations as the Colatina Belt. The secondary orientations of the Araçuaí Orogen (NE-SW), the identification of morphotectonic features, the presence of abrupt topographic differences (topographic profiles), and the identification of tectonic regions (base surface map) and tectonic blocks (scanning profile) demonstrate the tectonic control in the relief of the Pancas-ES region, achieving the objective of this research.

Resumo Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo principal investigar o controle litoestrutural, tectônico e neotectônico no relevo da região de Pancas (Espírito Santo, Sudeste do Brasil). A metodologia foi organizada em análises de gabinete e de campo. Em gabinete foram gerados mapas de lineamentos e de trends estruturais, a partir da técnica de extração manual, utilizando ferramentas de edição do software ArcGIS 10.3.1™ (ESRI, 2012), sobre um Modelo Digital de Elevação (MDE) com diferentes iluminações artificiais (escala 1:110.000) e geradas rosetas de orientação. Os mapas geológicos e geomorfológicos foram organizados/elaborados com o ArcGIS, a partir do Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG) e as bases cartográficas foram configuradas no sistema de projeção UTM e DATUM SIRGAS 2000, zona 24S, posteriormente analisados e comparados com os dados das orientações dos lineamentos decalcados, com a orientação das falhas de afloramentos estudados e com a literatura existente. Os resultados apresentaram orientações NW-SE/NNW-SSE e NE-SW/NNE-SSW, com a predominância das orientações NNW-SSE e NW-SE identificadas na análise dos lineamentos e dos trends estruturais, semelhantes com as orientações das falhas geológicas e das falhas neotectônicas presentes na área estudada, refletindo a estruturação regional da área, apresentando as mesmas orientações da Faixa Colatina. As orientações secundárias do Orógeno Araçuaí (NE-SW), a identificação de feições morfotectônicas, a presença de diferenças topográficas abruptas (perfis topográficos), a identificação de regiões tectônicas (mapa de superfície de bases) e de blocos tectônicos (perfil em varredura) demonstram o controle tectônico no relevo da região de Pancas-ES, atingindo o objetivo desta pesquisa.

ABSTRACT Children have an increased likelihood of becoming carriers of the chronic hepatitis B virus. A total of 1,381 children and adolescents were assessed in five municipalities of Maranhao State, Brazil, for detection of anti-HBc, HBsAg and anti-HBs serologic markers and sociodemographic and behavioral features. Among those who were HBsAg negative and anti-HBc negative, the proportion of anti-HBs positives was calculated after the individuals had completed the vaccination schedule. The robust variance of the Poisson’s regression model was used in order to have adjusted tables and calculate the prevalence ratio. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with the prevalence of anti-HBc with or without HBsAg and the vaccine response. It was observed that 163 children were anti-HBc positive and nine individuals were HBsAg positive. The factors associated with the infection were: municipality of residence (residing in Morros municipality or Humberto de Campos municipality), residence in a rural area, aged between 13 and 15 years old, and illicit drug use. The percentage of individuals who were anti-HBc negative and received all three doses of the vaccine was 48.5%. Among these, only 276 (38.9%) had antibodies at protective concentrations. In an adjusted analysis, Morros municipality presented an increased positivity of vaccine response (p < 0.001), and the age ranging between 6 and 10 years old presented a reduced frequency of response. This study reveals a high prevalence of current and past HBV infection within the targeted age group which, in addition to the low vaccination coverage and serological responses, raises concerns about the management of prevention measures, especially the quality of vaccination in these locations.

Resumo: Este artigo busca compreender a conjuntura na qual nos encontrávamos quando a pandemia atinge o território brasileiro, procurando analisar suas consequências para a reprodução social tanto do capital, quanto dos trabalhadores. A pesquisa se pauta em estudos bibliográficos e documental, guiando-se nos passos do materialismo histórico-dialético. Busca evidenciar, inicialmente, as transformações no mundo do trabalho que vêm sendo implementadas desde o processo de redemocratização do país. A seguir, procura expor elementos que apontavam para o aumento das desigualdades e a piora das condições de vida dos trabalhadores, além de evidenciar algumas das frações da classe trabalhadora especialmente afetada. Os elementos estruturantes que impactam sobre a reprodução social resultam das contrarreformas implantadas, e não dos impactos da pandemia em si; as ações tomadas para o enfrentamento da crise objetivavam a manutenção do capital, em detrimento do trabalho.

Abstract: The article seeks to understand the conjuncture in which we found ourselves when the pandemic hits Brazilian territory, seeking to analyze it’s consequences for social reproduction, both for capital and for workers. The research that resulted in the article is based on bibliographic and documentary studies, guided by the steps of historical-dialectical materialism. It seeks to initially highlight the changes in the world of work that have been implemented since the country's redemocratization process. Next, it seeks to expose elements that pointed to the increase in inequalities and the worsening of the living conditions of workers, in addition to highlighting some of the fractions of the working class especially affected. The structuring elements that impact on social reproduction result from the implemented counter-reforms, and not from the impacts of the pandemic itself; the actions taken to face the crisis aimed at maintaining capital, to the detriment of work.

Abstract The pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is complex. Few studies in Brazilian population have addressed cell phenotypes associated with immunological responses and their associations with SLE activity. The aim of this study is to investigate cell phenotypes associated to SLE diagnosis, treatment and activity. Twenty-eight SLE female patients (17 inactive, 11 active) and 10 healthy women were included in this study. Markers of natural killer (Nk), T and B cells in peripheral blood were evaluated by flow cytometry. Nkt cells were decreased only in SLE active patients. Activated CD4+, regulatory T FoxP3+ and B cells were decreased in both active and inactive SLE patients, compared to control group. The data corroborate the disruption of immune regulatory response in SLE patients and suggest phenotipic changes as possible biomarkers of SLE activity.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever o desenvolvimento de um website e a criação de uma conta em rede social sobre alergologia/imunologia pediátrica com informações confiáveis, para promover educação e ter um canal de contato paciente-médico. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo. Um questionário foi aplicado a 93 pacientes (12 anos de idade ou mais) e cuidadores frequentadores de um ambulatório de alergologia/imunologia pediátrica, para abordar o padrão de uso de internet de potenciais usuários. Lançou-se um website em português e uma página no Instagram®, nos quais foi criada, no contexto da pandemia, uma área para comunicação paciente-médico. Resultados: Dos 93 participantes, 77% eram mulheres, 82% cuidadores, com idade mediana de 33,2 anos e renda mensal de 403 dólares. A internet foi acessada via smartphone por 81,7% dos participantes; 76% relataram usar a internet para informações em saúde, mas 72% não confiavam nessa informação, e 96% acreditavam que um site institucional poderia prover informações seguras. Do lançamento do website em 6 de novembro de 2018 até 20 de janeiro de 2022, contabilizaram-se 10.062 visualizações de páginas por 4.896 usuários; 55% tinham idade entre 18 e 34 anos, 70,2% eram mulheres. A página no Instagram® reuniu 882 seguidores. O website apresentou período de instabilidade, sem registrar acessos. Em razão do isolamento social durante a pandemia de COVID-19, o website apresentou-se como ferramenta de primeira linha para auxiliar pacientes e médicos. Conclusões: Pacientes e cuidadores do ambulatório de Alergologia/Imunologia Pediátrica, consultados sobre ferramentas digitais, consideraram as informações fornecidas por uma instituição de ensino/pesquisa como oportunas e relevantes. O website e a página do Instagram® têm apresentado bom desempenho e visualização, e os resultados estão sendo continuamente avaliados. Durante a pandemia de COVID-19, o website tem conectado pacientes/familiares e médicos.

Abstract Objective: To describe the development of a website and the creation of a social network account about pediatric allergy/immunology with reliable information, to promote education and have a channel for patient-doctor contact. Methods: This is a descriptive study. A survey was conducted with 93 patients (12 years and older) and caregivers of a Pediatric Allergy/Immunology outpatient clinic, to assess internet usage patterns of potential users. A webpage in Portuguese and an Instagram® account were launched in which it was created an area for patient-doctor communication in the pandemic context. Results: Among 93 participants, 77% were female, 82% caregivers. Median age was 33.2 years, family income 403 dollars/month. The internet was accessed via smartphone by 81,7% of the participants; 76% reported using internet to access health information but 72% did not trust on the information from the internet, and 96% believed that an institutional site could provide meaningful information. From the website release in November 6, 2018 to January 20, 2022, it was counted 10,062 page views by 4,896 users; 55% were 18–34 years old, 70.2% female. Instagram® account gathered 882 followers. Website went through a period of instability during which access were not counted. Due to social isolation during COVID-19 pandemic, the website served as a tool for first response to help patients and doctors. Conclusions: Patients and caregivers of the Pediatric Allergy/Immunology service, consulted about digital tools, considered the information supported by a teaching/research institution timely and relevant. The website and Instagram® account have both performed well and shown good return in relation to hits, and results are continuously being evaluated. During COVID-19 pandemic, the website has been connecting patients/families and doctors.

Abstract Background Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the main etiological factor for the development of cervical cancer. HPV 18 is the second most frequent type, accounting for up to 65% of all cases. HPV intratypic variation may influence the potential for progression to invasive cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of human papillomavirus 18 intratypic variants in cervical cancer samples from women in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. Methods The study included 118 women over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of cervical cancer. Tumor fragments were collected and subjected to DNA extraction and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for HPV detection using the PGMY09/11 and GP+5/6 primers. Positive samples were submitted to automated sequencing for viral genotyping. To determine the HPV 18 lineages, positive samples were submitted to PCR, using specific primers to amplify the LCR and E6 regions of HPV 18 virus. Results HPV was present in 88 women (73.3%). Of those, 48 (54%) were HPV 16, the most prevalent, followed by 12 (13.6%) HPV 18. Histologically, squamous cell carcinoma was predominant (79.1%). Among the HPV 18 variants identified, 10 (80%) belonged to lineage A, and sublineages A1, A2, A3, and A4. Two (29%) HPV 18 B variant was also detected, with the sublineages B1 and B2. In this study, the C variant was not found. There was no statistically significant association between the HPV 18 lineages found and sociodemographic and lifestyle variables (p > 0.05). Conclusions A higher frequency of HPV 16 and 18 were found in women with cervical cancer in the state of Maranhão, Brazil, with a high prevalence of the lineage A among women with HPV 18.

Resumo: A biodiversidade alimentar é caracterizada pela diversidade alimentar que compõe um ecossistema local, regional ou nacional. O Brasil tem 20% de toda a biodiversidade do planeta e os biomas mais ricos do mundo. No entanto, é relevante descrever a participação desses alimentos na dieta dos brasileiros. Utilizando uma amostra complexa com dados de 57.920 domicílios, coletados pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística de 2017 a 2018, observou-se que, com exceção da erva-mate, a disponibilidade de alimentos provenientes da biodiversidade é baixa, representando uma média de 7,09g/per capita/dia. Por biomas, a Caatinga apresentou a maior disponibilidade de frutos (4,20g/per capita/dia), enquanto para legumes, a Amazônia se destacou (1,52g/per capita/dia). Os resultados são insatisfatórios e abaixo do que se espera de um território biodiverso e de um sistema alimentar que é destaque mundial. É necessário um maior comprometimento para a promoção de ações que fortaleçam o consumo desses alimentos entre brasileiros.

Utilizando una muestra compleja con datos de 57.920 domicilios, recopilados por el Instituto Brasileño de Geografía y Estadística de 2017 a 2018, se observó que, con excepción de la yerba mate, la disponibilidad de alimentos de la biodiversidad es baja, representando un promedio de 7,09g/per cápita/día. Por biomas, la Caatinga presentó la mayor disponibilidad de frutos (4,20g/per cápita/día), mientras que en relación a las legumbres, la Amazonía se destacó (1,52g/per cápita/día). Los resultados son insatisfactorios y por debajo de lo que se espera de un territorio rico en biodiversidad y un sistema alimentario mundialmente reconocido. Es necesario un mayor compromiso para la promoción de acciones que fortalezcan el consumo de estos alimentos entre los brasileños.

Abstract: Food biodiversity is characterized by the diversity of foods that compose a local, regional, or national ecosystem. Brazil has 20% of all the planet’s biodiversity and the richest biomes in the world. Therefore, describing the participation of these foods in the Brazilian diet is relevant. Using a complex sample with data from 57,920 households collected by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics from 2017 to 2018, this study showed that, except for yerba mate, the availability of foods from Brazilian biodiversity is low, representing an average of 7.09g/per capita/day. Regarding biomes, the Caatinga had the highest availability of fruits (4.20g/per capita/day) while the Amazon had the highest availability of vegetables (1.52g/per capita/day). The results are unsatisfactory and lower than what is expected from a territory rich in biodiversity and a world-leading food system. A greater commitment is essential to promote actions that strengthen the consumption of these foods among Brazilians.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different water salinity levels on the growth performance, survival, and masculinization rate of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) larvae in a biofloc technology (BFT) system. Seven salinity levels (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 g L-1) were tested during four weeks in the masculinization period after the absorption of the yolk sac in a matured biofloc system. The water quality variables were within the recommended range for Nile tilapia farming. However, the nitrite peaks were higher at higher salinity levels and were associated with the lower survival of fish at salinity levels equal to or higher than 6 g L-1. There was no difference between treatments for average final body weight and masculinization rate. Final biomass and survival decreased, and the feed offered as a proportion of final biomass showed the worst results because of the increase in salinity. Therefore, since higher masculinization rates are not obtained at slight and moderate levels of saline water, salinity should be kept close to 0 g L-1 for the masculinization protocol of Nile tilapia in a BFT, for a better survival and higher biomass of the fish, as well as a lower waste of the offered feed.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes níveis de salinidade da água sobre o desempenho de crescimento, a sobrevivência e a taxa de masculinização de larvas de tilápia-do-nilo (Oreochromis niloticus) em sistema de tecnologia de bioflocos (BFT). Sete níveis de salinidade (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 e 12 g L-1) foram testados durante quatro semanas no período de masculinização após a absorção do saco vitelino, em sistema de bioflocos maturados. As variáveis de qualidade da água estiveram dentro dos intervalos recomendados para a produção de tilápia-do-nilo. Entretanto, os picos de nitrito foram mais altos nos tratamentos com maiores níveis de salinidade e foram associados à menor sobrevivência dos peixes em salinidade igual ou superior a 6 g L-1. Não houve diferença entre os tratamentos quanto ao peso médio final e à taxa de masculinização. A biomassa final e a sobrevivência diminuíram, e o alimento oferecido como proporção da biomassa final apresentou os piores resultados em razão do aumento da salinidade. Portanto, uma vez que não são obtidas taxas de masculinização maiores em água leve ou moderadamente salinizada, a salinidade deve ser mantida próxima de 0 g L-1 para o protocolo de masculinização de larvas de tilápia-do-nilo em BFT, para melhor sobrevivência e maior biomassa dos peixes, assim como menor desperdício do alimento oferecido.

ABSTRACT Cyrtopodium R. Br. is a neotropical genus with 50 species, of which 37 are present in Brazil, especially in the Cerrado, its center of diversity and endemism. Works on the genus for the country are limited to classical literature, a synoptical treatment, descriptions of new species, and floristic listings. We present a taxonomic synopsis for Cyrtopodium species occurring in the municipality of Niquelândia, Goiás State, Brazil. Fourteen species were found (C. blanchetii, C. braemii, C. brandonianum, C. brunneum, C. cristatum, C. confusum, C. eugenii, C. paludicolum, C. poecilum, C. saintlegerianum, C. triste, C. vernum, C. virescens and C. withnerii), among which C. confusum constitutes a new record for the Goiás State. The species are contrasted by means of a key, have their geographic distributions and morphological relationships commented and are represented by images. Cyrtopodium confusum, the novelty registered here, is described and its distribution mapped.

RESUMO Cyrtopodium R. Br. é um táxon neotropical com 50 espécies, das quais 37 estão presentes no Brasil, especialmente no Cerrado, seu centro de diversidade e endemismo. Trabalhos sobre o gênero no país resumem-se à literatura clássica, a um tratamento sinóptico, a descrição de novas espécies e a listagens florísticas. Apresentamos uma sinopse taxonômica para os taxa de Cyrtopodium ocorrentes no munucípio de Niquelândia, Estado de Goiás, Brasil. Foram encontradas 14 espécies (C. blanchetii, C. braemii, C. brandonianum, C. brunneum, C. cristatum, C. confusum, C. eugenii, C. paludicolum, C. poecilum, C. saintlegerianum, C. triste, C. vernum, C. virescens e C. withnerii), dentre as quais C. confusum é interpretada como a primeira ocorrência para o Estado de Goiás. Tais espécies são contrastadas por meio de uma chave de identificação, têm suas distribuições geográficas e relações morfológicas comentadas e são representadas por imagens. Cyrtopodium confusum, a novidade aqui registrada, é descrita e tem sua distribuição mapeada.
