Maraging steels are ferrous alloys with Ni, Co, Mo, and Ti additions. These materials are a special class of ultra high mechanical strength steels with wide and special applications in strategic areas, which makes their knowledge very valuable. Computational advances allowed to analyze the behavior of these materials numerically, using the finite element method and developing mathematical models that can represent numerically its mechanical behavior. The present work has the objective of surveying the mechanical properties of maraging steels 300 and 350 by slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests, after the solution treatment at 1183K for 1h. Additionally, it was evaluated the hydrogen embrittlement in samples tested by SSRT under cathodic protection with a potential -1.2 VSCE in 3.5% NaCl solution. The study was complemented with detailed fractographic analysis. This work also presents the analysis of representative models by use of Hollomon, Swift, Voce and coupled Swift-Voce equations to describe the strain-hardening behavior. Compared to the others, the Voce’s model was the one which best fitted the experimental results, with values of R2 higher than 0.992. Through the variation of the chemical composition found in the different grades of maraging steels, this work contemplates the creation of a generalized Voce model based on the variation of the Ti content. The work concludes presenting the generalized Voce model proposed and a numerical analysis of the SSRT results with a good accuracy of the strain-hardening response.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a prevalência de MG e MS e a filogenia das cepas circulantes, comparando-as com outras já descritas em poedeiras comerciais no Brasil. Foram coletados 140 suabes traqueais de poedeiras comerciais com sinais respiratórios em seis granjas da região centro-oeste de São Paulo. As amostras foram avaliadas por PCR, com posterior sequenciamento e análise filogenética das cepas identificadas. Das 140 amostras, 16,4% foram positivas para MG e 68,6% para MS. Houve diferença significativa nas frequências de MG e MS por granja, segundo o teste G de independência (P<0,05). Todas as cepas identificadas de MG e MS de granjas distintas apresentaram similaridade tanto pela lipoproteína para MG quanto pela região 16s rRNA para MS. Neste estudo, foi possível observar altas prevalências dos agentes estudados, sendo a de MS maior que a de MG. Foi detectada infecção mista por MG e MS em 11,4% das amostras e sabe-se que esses micoplasmas podem agir de forma sinérgica, agravando o quadro respiratório. As cepas circulantes identificadas, pela análise das regiões gênicas da lipoproteína para MG e 16S rRNA para MS, são similares em todas as granjas estudadas.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of MG and MS and the phylogeny of the circulating strains, comparing them with others already described in commercial laying hens from Brazil. A total of 140 tracheal swabs were collected from commercial laying hens with respiratory signs in six farms from the western region of São Paulo state. The samples were analyzed by PCR with subsequent sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the identified strains. From the 140 samples, 68.6% were positive for MS and 16.4% for MG. There was a significant difference in the frequencies of MG and MS per farm according to G Test of independence (P<0.05). All strains identified as MG and MS from distinct farms presented similarity both by lipoprotein to MG and by 16s rRNA region to MS. In this study, it was possible to observe a high prevalence of MS compared to MG. Mixed MG and MS infection was detected in 11.4% of the samples. These mycoplasmas may act synergistically, worsening the respiratory signs. The circulating strains identified by analysis of the lipoprotein for MG and 16S rRNA for MS are similar on all poultry farms studied.

RESUMO: A interferência entre sistemas de raízes ocorre abaixo da superfície do solo muito antes que a competição entre plantas se expresse na parte aérea. Entre os recursos de competição, os nutrientes são destacados pela limitação nos solos, tornando necessária a suplementação, especialmente do fósforo (P). Dessa forma, objetivou-se neste estudo estimar, a partir da semeadura, características visuais nos sistemas de raízes do feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris) de variedade Carioca, em competição com braquiária (Urochloa brizantha), considerando-se ainda a aplicação de fósforo P2O5. Utilizou-se esquema fatorial com seis tratamentos, resultantes da combinação de três esquemas de cultivo (feijoeiro em cultivo isolado ou em competição com uma ou duas plantas de braquiária) e aplicação ou não de adubação fosfatada (90 kg ha-1 de P2O5), conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em casa de vegetação com ambiente controlado, com quatro repetições. Após a semeadura das espécies, os resultados da visualização foram tomados a cada 12 horas, por meio do registro fotográfico do desenvolvimento do sistema radicular em rizotrons. Foi observado maior crescimento e área total do sistema radicular quando em monocultivo e em competição com uma planta de braquiária em presença de adubação fosfatada. Em contrapartida, o feijão em recipiente com duas plantas de braquiária investiu recursos em maior comprimento e área total do sistema radicular em ausência do fertilizante. Pode-se afirmar a existência de indícios da interferência a partir de três dias após a semeadura das espécies.

ABSTRACT: Interference between root systems occurs below the ground surface long before the competition between plants is expressed in the shoot. Nutrients stand out for being limited in the soil, requiring supplementation, especially phosphorus. Thus, this study aimed at estimating, from sowing, visual characteristics in the root systems of bean plants from the Carioca variety (Phaseolus vulgaris) when in competition with brachiaria (Urochloa brizantha), considering also the application of phosphorus P2O5. A factorial design with six treatments was used resulting from the combination of three cultivation schemes (beans in isolated crops or in competition with one or two brachiaria plants), and the application or not of phosphate fertilizer (90 kg ha-1 of P2O5), in a completely randomized design with four replications. After the sowing of the species, the visualization results were taken at every 12 hours, by means of the photographic record of the development of the root system in rhizotrons. Greater growth and greater total area of the root system were observed in bean monocultures and when competing with one brachiaria plant in the presence of phosphate fertilization. In contrast, the bean plant in the container with two brachiaria plants invested its resources in greater length and total area of the root system when in the absence of the fertilizer. It can be stated that there is evidence of interference starting three days after the sowing of the species.

RESUMO: A volatilização de herbicidas pode gerar problemas ambientais e agrícolas e resultar em contaminação visual ou fisiológica de espécies vegetais não alvo. Assim, objetivou-se com esta pesquisa estudar a fluorescência da clorofila a de plantas daninhas e forrageiras sob efeito do clomazone na forma de resíduos atmosféricos. O experimento foi conduzido em campo, delineado em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 6 x 4, sendo seis espécies vegetais: Dolichos lablab, Sorgum bicolor, Urochloa brizantha, Macrotyloma axillare, Portulaca oleracea e Sida rhombifolia, em quatro soluções contendo clomazone: 0, 360, 720 e 1.080 g ha-1 (0, 0,05, 0,10 e 0,15 mg L-1). Foram construídos canteiros, cobertos com filme de polietileno transparente de 150 μm, apresentando volume de 12 m³. As forrageiras foram semeadas em linha, enquanto as plantas daninhas foram selecionadas conforme a incidência no local do experimento. No décimo sexto dia após a emergência, foi inserida a concentração do herbicida diluído em três placas de Petri. Transcorridas 72 horas de exposição, os túneis foram abertos e as placas retiradas, constatando-se evaporação do produto. Procedeu-se às seguintes avaliações: intoxicação das plantas, fluorescência inicial, rendimento quântico máximo do PSII, quenching fotoquímico, quenching não fotoquímico e teor de clorofila. As variáveis fisiológicas, clorofila total, rendimento quântico máximo do PSII e fluorescência inicial da clorofila podem ser usadas de forma eficiente no monitoramento de resíduos do clomazone na atmosfera. Mesmo em concentrações que não promovem efeito visual, o clomazone é capaz de causar danos na atividade fotossintética das espécies.

ABSTRACT: Herbicide volatilization may generate environmental and agricultural problems and result in visual or physiological contamination of non-target plant species. Thus, the goal of this research was to study the fluorescence of chlorophyll a in weeds and fodder plants under the effect of clomazone in the form of atmospheric waste. The experiment was conducted under field conditions designed in randomized blocks with four replications, in a 6 x 4 factor scheme, with six plant species: Dolichos lablab, bicolor Sorgum, Urochloa brizantha, Macrotyloma axillare, Portulaca oleracea and Sida rhombifolia. There were four solutions containing 0, 360, 720 and 1,080 g ha-1 of clomazone (0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 mg L-1, considered as the volume). Seedbeds were built and covered with transparent polyethylene film of 150 μm, with a volume of 12 m³. Fodder plants were sown in line, while weeds were selected according to the incidence. On the sixteenth day after emergence, concentrations of herbicide diluted on three petri dishes were inserted. After 72 hours of exposure, the tunnels were opened and the dishes were removed, noticing evaporation of the product. The following evaluationswere performed: plant poisoning, initial fluorescence, maximum quantum yield of PSII, photochemical quenching, non-photochemical quenching and chlorophyll content. Even at concentrations that do not promote visual effect, clomazone can cause significant damage in the photosynthetic activity of the species. The physiological variables chlorophyll, maximum quantum yield of PSII and initial chlorophyll fluorescence can be effectively used to monitor clomazone waste in the atmosphere.

RESUMO Apesar dos inúmeros benefícios da fluidoterapia transcirúrgica, sobrecarga de volume pode trazer efeitos deletérios, como a alteração de parâmetros hematimétricos. Dessa maneira, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar duas diferentes taxas de infusão de solução cristaloide no período transanestésico e seus efeitos até 24 horas pós-operatório. Foram utilizados dois grupos de seis animais cada, um deles recebeu solução de cloreto de sódio 0,9% a 10mL/kg/h (G10) e o outro a 5mL/kg/h (G5). Os valores de hematócrito foram avaliados no período de 24 horas em 10 diferentes momentos. Os resultados não apontaram diferenças significativas entre os grupos, porém foi observada redução significativa do hematócrito após indução anestésica. Foi ainda observada redução de hematócrito após o término da cirurgia em ambos os grupos, e o retorno aos valores basais de hematócrito ocorreu de forma significativa 12 horas após o procedimento cirúrgico em G10, e após oito horas em G5, mostrando uma tendência à hemodiluição mais persistente em G10.

ABSTRACT Despite the beneficial goals of fluid therapy administered during surgery, volume overload can cause deleterious effects, such as alterations on hematimetric parameters. Thus, the objective of this paper was to evaluate two different cristaloid infusion rates during the surgical period and its effects on the 24-hour post-surgical period. Two groups of six animals each were used in the present study, one received 10mL/kg/h (G10) of 0,9% sodium chloride solution and the other 5mL/kg/h (G5) of the same solution. Packed cell volume (PCV) was evaluated in 10 different times during the 24 hours following surgery. The results did not show significant differences between groups, but they showed a major tendency of hemodilution in G10. A significant decrease of PCV was observed after induction of anesthesia. Decrease of PCV after the end of surgery in both groups was also observed, and the return to PCV basal values was observed 12 hours after the procedure in G10 and after eight hours in G5, showing a tendency of prolonged hemodilution in G10.

RESUMO O uso de plantas indicadoras pode ser uma alternativa eficiente no monitoramento da presença de moléculas tóxicas no ar, como os herbicidas. Dessa forma, objetivou-se nesta pesquisa avaliar a sensibilidade de plantas forrageiras e daninhas a concentrações residuais atmosféricas de clomazone. Os tratamentos foram arranjados em esquema fatorial 6 x 5, com o primeiro fator correspondendo às espécies vegetais triticale (Triticosecale rimpaui), milho (Zea mays), sorgo (Sorghum bicolor), braquiarão (Urochloa brizantha), beldroega (Portulaca oleracea) e capim-braquiária (Urochloa decumbens), e o segundo, às doses de clomazone de 0, 90, 180, 270 e 360 g ha-1 (equivalentes às concentrações atmosféricas de 0,0, 0,05, 0,10, 0,15 e 0,20 mg L-1). Doze dias após emergência, as plantas foram alocadas no interior de câmaras experimentais retangulares, com volume de 500 dm3, recobertas por filme de polietileno transparente de 150 mm. As plantas ficaram exclusivamente sob a atmosfera da câmara com o herbicida por período de 96 horas. Posteriormente, as câmaras foram abertas e procedeu-se à primeira avaliação da intoxicação e, também, do teor de clorofila. As avaliações foram repetidas aos 7 e 14 dias após abertura da câmara. A presença de clomazone em concentrações mínimas na atmosfera afetou a qualidade das plantas avaliadas. Capim-braquiária, braquiarão, sorgo, triticale e beldroega são espécies sensíveis às concentrações residuais atmosféricas de clomazone, podendo ser utilizadas no monitoramento da qualidade do ar quando há resíduos dessa molécula.

ABSTRACT The use of indicator plants can be an effective alternative in monitoring the presence of toxic molecules in the air, such as herbicides. Thus, in the goal of this study is to assess the sensitivity of forage plants and weeds to atmospheric residual concentrations of clomazone. The treatments were arranged in a 6x5 factorial scheme, with the first factor corresponding to the plant species triticale (Triticosecale rimpaui), maize (Zea mays), sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), palisade grass (Urochloa brizantha), purslane (Portulaca oleracea) and signal grass (Urochloa decumbens), and the second factor to doses of 0, 90, 180, 270 and 360 g ha-1 clomazone doses (equivalent to atmospheric concentrations of 0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0, 20 mg L-1). Twelve days after emergence, the plants were allocated inside experimental rectangular chambers with a volume of 500 dm3, covered by 150 uM of transparent polyethylene film. The plants remained exclusively in the chamber atmosphere with the herbicide for a period of 96 hours. After the chambers were opened, there were the first evaluation of intoxication and chlorophyll content, as well. The evaluations were repeated on day 7 and 14 after the chamber opening. The presence of clomazone in minimal concentrations in the atmosphere affected the quality of the evaluated plants. Signal grass, palisade grass, sorghum, triticale and purslane were sensitive to atmospheric residual concentrations of clomazone and they can be used to monitor the air quality when there are wastes from this molecule.

Estudou-se o efeito da categoria reprodutiva sobre a fertilidade de éguas inseminadas com sêmen asinino diluído, resfriado e armazenado. Os ciclos foram acompanhados por palpação retal e rufiação, sendo as inseminações realizadas às terças, quintas e sábados, a partir da detecção de um folículo de 3,0 a 3,5cm de diâmetro, em um dos ovários, até a ovulação. O sêmen de cinco jumentos da raça Pêga foi diluído nos diluidores de leite em pó desnatado-glicose ou glicina-gema de ovo, resfriado a 5ºC e armazenado por 12 horas, sendo a dose inseminante de 400 x 106espermatozoides móveis (no momento da diluição final, pré-resfriamento) depositada no corpo do útero. O diagnóstico de gestação foi realizado por meio de palpação transretal, rufiação e ultrassonografia, realizada a cada 14 dias. Os resultados de 195 ciclos, referentes a 141 éguas, foram agrupados de acordo com a categoria reprodutiva a que pertenciam: potra, égua solteira, égua parida e no "cio do potro". As taxas de concepção, ao primeiro ciclo, foram de 60,00%, 48,28%, 75,00% e 47,17% e, após quatro ciclos, de 61,54%, 47,13%, 54,76% e 47,17%, na mesma ordem para as categorias descritas anteriormente. A categoria reprodutiva não teve efeito (P>0,05) sobre a fertilidade das éguas inseminadas com sêmen asinino resfriado, sendo as potras, éguas solteiras, éguas paridas e no "cio do potro" igualmente eficientes para o uso na reprodução.

The effect of the mare status on fertility of mares inseminated with diluted, cooled and stored jackass semen, was studied. The cycles were controlled by transrectal palpation and teasing, and mares were inseminated every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from the detection of a follicle with 3.0 to 3.5cm diameter in one of the ovaries until ovulation. The semen of five Pêga jackasses was diluted in skim milk-glucose or in egg yolk-glycine extender and cooled at 5ºC for 12 hours, with the inseminate dose of 400 x 106motile spermatozoa (at the moment of the final dilution, before cooling). The inseminations were carried out in the uterine body. Pregnancy was detected using transrectal palpation, teasing and ultrasound exams every 14 days. The results of 195 cycles of 141 mares were grouped according to the mare status: maiden, barren, lactation or in foal heat. Pregnancy rates for the first cycle were 60.00%, 48.28%, 75.00% and 47.17%, and after four cycles, the pregnancy rates/cycle were 61.54%, 47.13%, 54.76% and 47.17%, respectively for maiden, barren, lactation and in foal heat mares (P>0,05). The mare status did not affect pregnancy rates of mares inseminated with diluted and cooled jackass semen and were efficient to use on reproduction.

Estudou-se o efeito da idade sobre a fertilidade de éguas inseminadas com sêmen asinino diluído, resfriado e armazenado. Os ciclos foram acompanhados por palpação transretal e rufiação, sendo as inseminações realizadas às terças, quintas e sábados, a partir da detecção de um folículo de 3,0 a 3,5cm de diâmetro, em um dos ovários, até a ovulação. O sêmen de cinco jumentos da raça Pêga foi diluído nos diluidores de leite em pó desnatado-glicose ou glicina-gema de ovo, resfriado a 5ºC e armazenado por 12 horas, sendo a dose inseminante de 400 x 106espermatozoides móveis (no momento da diluição final, pré-resfriamento). Os resultados de 195 ciclos estrais, referentes a 141 éguas, foram agrupados em classes, de acordo com a idade das éguas: 2,5 a 6 anos, 6,5 a 10 anos, 10,5 a 14 anos e 14,5 a 19 anos. As taxas de concepção, ao primeiro ciclo, foram de 68,42%, 50,75%, 46,88% e 52,17% e, após quatro ciclos, de 69,57%, 47,92%, 46,34% e 45,71% para as faixas etárias de 2,5 a 6, 6,5 a 10, 10,5 a 14 e 14,5 a 19 anos, respectivamente (P>0,05). A idade não teve efeito sobre a fertilidade das éguas inseminadas com sêmen asinino diluído e resfriado.

The mare age had no influence on fertility, using diluted and cooled jackass semen.

Collection of spermatozoa obtained from the epididymis cauda (CES) is a viable option to preserve of genetic material from threatened species and for use in assisted reproduction. The aim of the present study was to assess the in vitro effect of four different extenders on spermatozoa from goat epididymis cauda, cooled at 4ºC. Epididymal sperm were recovered from the cauda by flushing six pairs of epididymis. The samples of each pair were mixed, subdivided into four aliquots and diluted in coconut water-egg yolk (CW-EY), physiologic solution with 0.5 % glucose and egg yolk (PSG-EY), UHT skim milk (SM), and UHT skim milk with egg yolk (SM-EY). The samples were cooled at 4ºC for 2, 12, 24 and 48 hours. After storage, in each period, the semen was evaluated by the heat resistance test for sperm motility, vigor and total morphological alterations. The motility degradation rate was calculated at the end of each time period. Sperm viability decreased with time in the four extenders. Epididymal sperm diluted in CW-EY showed higher values for vigor and motility, although these parameters did not differ from the sperm kept in the PSG-EY up to 48 hours at 4ºC, except for spermatic vigor. However, the PSG-EY and SM extenders caused greater morphologic damage to epididymal sperm after 12 and 24 hours, respectively. Extenders based on skim milk provided less spermatic cell stability during 48 hours. In conclusion, CW-EY extender was the most efficient extender to maintain CES viability at 4ºC.

A colheita de espermatozóides da cauda do epidídimo (CES) é uma opção viável de preservação de material genético de espécies ameaçadas de extinção, bem como para uso em reprodução assistida. Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a eficiência de quatro diferentes diluidores sobre os espermatozóides da cauda do epidídimo de caprinos, resfriado a 4ºC. Os espermatozoides epididimários foram recuperados da cauda de seis pares de epidídimo. As amostras de cada par foram misturadas e subdivididas em quatro alíquotas que foram diluídas na água de cocogema (CW-EY), solução fisiológica glicosada 0,5 %-gema (PSG), leite desnatado UHT (ME) e leite desnatado UHT-gema (ME-EY). As amostras foram resfriadas a 4ºC por 2, 12, 24 e 48 horas. Após o armazenamento, em cada período, o CES foi avaliado através do teste de termoresistência quanto à motilidade, vigor espermático e alterações morfológicas total. A taxa de degradação da motilidade foi calculada no final de cada período. A viabilidade espermática diminuiu com o tempo de refrigeração nos quatro diluidores. Os CES diluídos na CW-EY apresentaram maiores valores para vigor e motilidade, embora estes parâmetros não deferissem daqueles mantidos no PSG por até 48 horas, exceto para vigor espermático. Entretanto, os diluidores PSG e ME ocasionaram maiores danos morfológicos aos CES a partir de 12 e 48 horas, respectivamente. Os diluidores ME e MEEY proporcionaram à célula espermática menor estabilidade durante 48 h de conservação. Concluiu-se que o CW-EY foi o mais eficiente em manter a viabilidade dos CES a 4ºC.

Estudaram-se o efeito do estresse térmico sobre a temperatura cloacal, a perda de peso corporal e a expressão da proteína de estresse de 70 kDa (Hsp70) em três genótipos de galinhas de pescoço-pelado. Foram usadas 12 aves de cada genótipo (Na/Na, Na/na e na/na), com peso corporal médio de 2,100kg e criadas em temperatura termoneutra. Seis aves de cada grupo serviram como controle e as seis restantes foram submetidas a estresse térmico gradativo (28ºC - 36ºC). A temperatura cloacal e o peso das aves foram avaliados antes e depois do estresse. Amostras de fígado foram coletadas e os níveis de Hsp70 foram quantificados por "western blotting" com anticorpo monoclonal específico para Hsp70 de galinha. As aves heterozigotas (Na/na) tiveram variação de temperatura cloacal significativamente menor e menor perda de peso corporal durante o estresse térmico do que as dos outros genótipos. Não foi observada diferença significativa (P>0,05) para o aumento de Hsp70 no fígado. Aves heterozigotas parecem ter pequena vantagem sobre os outros genótipos durante estresse térmico gradativo, talvez devido ao efeito de heterose.

The variation in cloacal temperature, body weight loss and expression of the 70 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp70) in three naked neck broiler genotypes during heat stress were studied. Twelve birds of each genotype (Na/Na, Na/na and na/na) were reared to market weight (approximately 2.1kg) at thermoneutral temperature. Six birds from each group served as controls and the remaining six underwent gradual heat stress (from 28ºC to 36ºC). Cloacal temperature and body weight were measured before and after exposure to heat. Liver samples were collected and Hsp70 levels were quantified using western blotting with monoclonal anti-chicken Hsp70 antibody. Heterozygous (Na/na) birds had a significantly lower cloacal temperature variation and less body weight loss during heat stress than the other genotypes. There was no significant difference in the Hsp70 levels among the genotypes. Heterozygous birds (Na/na) appeared to have a slight advantage over the other genotypes during gradual heat stress, perhaps because of a heterotic effect.
