Resumo Estudos de conforto térmico em espaços climatizados apresentam limitações ao desconsiderar a adaptação do indivíduo às condições ambientais. Com objetivo de superar as limitações dos modelos atuais de conforto térmico, pesquisas têm sido realizadas para identificar os limites de conforto em ambientes sem climatização e em condições naturais, dentre elas, destacam-se os estudos de conforto em espaços abertos. Nesse contexto, este estudo tem como objetivo geral avaliar a sensação térmica dos visitantes de um parque urbano em João Pessoa-PB, uma cidade de clima quente e úmido no nordeste do Brasil. O Parque Urbano utilizado como área de estudo é uma das principais áreas verdes da cidade de João Pessoa. A metodologia aplicada utilizou de monitoramento microclimático das variáveis: temperatura do ar, temperatura do globo, umidade relativa do ar, velocidade do ar e radiação solar. Também foram aplicados 900 questionários estruturados para avaliar a sensação térmica dos usuários. Os resultados mostraram que 70% dos entrevistados estavam confortáveis quando a temperatura do ar estava entre 26 e 31 ºC. Através de modelagem matemática observou-se que existe efeito significativo das variáveis ambientais sobre a sensação térmica real. Comparando a sensação térmica com os índices calculados PMV, SET e PET, o intervalo encontrado para o índice PET de 24 a 34 ºC foi o que melhor refletiu a sensação térmica real dos entrevistados.

Abstract One of the limitations of thermal comfort studies in air-conditioned spaces is that they often ignore the fact that people have the capacity to adapt to their surroundings. In order to overcome the limitations of current thermal comfort models, several research studies have been carried out to identify comfort standards in free-running buildings, including studies of thermal comfort in open spaces. The aim of this study is to evaluate the thermal sensation of visitors to an urban park in João Pessoa-PB, a city with hot and humid climate in the northeast of Brazil. The urban park used as study area is one of the main green areas of the city. The applied methodology included the use of microclimatic monitoring of the variables: air temperature, globe temperature, air humidity, air velocity and solar radiation. We carried out 900 interviews to evaluate users' thermal sensation. The results showed that 70% of respondents were comfortable when the air temperature was between 26 and 31 ºC. Though mathematical modelling it was possible to observe that environmental variables significantly affect the actual thermal sensation. A comparison between thermal sensation and the calculated indices PMV, SET and PET showed that the PET index rage between 24 and 34 ºC was the one that best reflected the actual thermal sensation of the interviewees.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo é identificar a prioridade perceptiva e de satisfação quanto aos atributos de conforto ambiental de profissionais adaptados ao clima tropical atuantes em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTIs). Para tanto, avaliou-se, por meio de questionários de percepção e satisfação, profissionais de nove UTIs pertencentes à rede pública de saúde e localizados em cidade de clima tropical, além de medidas experimentais do ambiente. Os dados foram tratados por meio do método PROMETHEE e de testes inferenciais de Kruskal-Wallis e Mann-Whitney para identificação da sobreclassificação dos atributos de prioridade. Os resultados indicam que a temperatura do ar é o atributo de maior prioridade entre os profissionais intensivistas adaptados ao clima tropical, sendo a tolerância particularmente ao ruído distinta para diferentes valores de predicted mean vote (PMV). Conclui-se que uma avaliação de conforto ambiental deve considerar os atributos prioritários para os ocupantes, a fim de que a percepção e satisfação do ambiente global seja otimizada.

Abstract The aim of this study is to identify the perceptive priority and satisfaction related to environmental comfort attributes of professionals adapted to a tropical climate, who work in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). For this purpose, professionals from nine Intensive Care Units (ICUs) - in the public health network in a city with tropical climate - were assessed through perception and satisfaction questionnaires, in addition to experimental measurements of the environment. Data were treated using the PROMETHEE method and Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney inferential tests to identify the over classification of the priority attributes. The results indicate that air temperature is the highest priority attribute among the intensive care professionals adapted to a tropical climate, with tolerance to noise showing to be particularly different for different PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) values. The conclusion of the study is that environmental comfort assessments must consider the priority attributes for occupants in order to optimize the perception and satisfaction with the global environment.

Resumo Objetivou-se investigar o comportamento de modelos adaptativos de conforto térmico (PMVay e PMVak) em relação ao modelo clássico de Fanger (PMV) para predição da real sensação térmica nos profissionais intensivistas adaptados ao clima tropical, procurando identificar o limite de concordância entre tais métodos. As amostras foram coletadas em nove unidades de terapia intensiva (UTIs) públicas da cidade de João Pessoa/Paraíba/Brasil e as estimações obtidas pelos modelos foram confrontadas através da aplicação da análise de concordância entre métodos de Bland-Altman. Os testes identificaram que dentre os métodos selecionados o que apresentou menor viés para estimações da real sensação foi o PMV clássico se comparado aos modelos adaptativos indicados para indivíduos aclimatados a regiões quentes e úmidas características de climas tropicais. Entretanto, a amplitude do viés foi dependente da faixa de estimação, ou seja, à medida que as estimações se mantiveram entre valores de -1,5 e 0,2 o viés tendeu a ser minimizado. A análise de concordância mútua entre os testes mostrou que o PMV e o PMVak são equivalentes quando suas estimações se situam entre -0,5 e 0,5, o que indica que o fator de ponderação para adaptabilidade proposto pelo modelo PMVak não foi o suficiente para prever a aclimatação na amostra considerada.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the behaviour of adaptive models of thermal comfort (aPMVy e aPMVk) as compared with the classical Fanger model (PMV) for the prediction of the actual thermal sensation of intensivist professionals adapted to the tropical climate, seeking to identify the limits of agreement between such methods. The samples were collected at nine public Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil and the estimates obtained by the models were compared by applying the concordance between Bland-Altman methods. The tests revealed that, among the selected methods, the one that showed the least bias estimating the real sensation was the classic PMV, compared with adaptive models indicated for individuals acclimatized to hot and humid regions, which are characteristic of tropical climates. However, the amplitude of the bias depended on the estimation range, i.e., as the estimation was kept between -1.5 and 0.2 values, the bias tended to be minimized. The mutual correlation analysis between tests showed that the PMV and aPMVk are equivalent when their estimates are between -0.5 and 0.5, indicating that the weighting factor for adaptability offered by the aPMVk model was not enough to provide acclimatization in the sample considered.

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of psychosocial factors on the risk of WRMD symptoms in Brazilian footwear industry workers. The workers’ perceptions regarding psychosocial factors and frequency of body pain were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Logistic regression modeling was used to estimate the risk (Odds Ratio) of a worker more frequently exhibiting a symptom due to psychosocial factors. It was observed that some psychosocial factors, such as stress, contribute to WRMD in men, increasing the chance of symptoms in the knee (OR=3.07; p-value=0.036). In women, the ‘job dissatisfaction’ factor contributes to WRMD, increasing the chance of pain in the elbow (OR=4.83; p-value=0.007). It was concluded that a greater number of psychosocial factors influences the development of WRMD in male workers, although the effect these factors be discreet. In women, less psychosocial factors are related to WRMD, however its influence is very significant.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in monofunctional and multifunctional workers in a footwear company. The sample comprised 114 workers in the shoe production sector. The method Occupational Repetitive Actions was used to assess the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). Proportional odds models were constructed, relating the risk of WMSDs to the type of work and the worker’s level of multifunctionality. For monofunctional workers, exposure to the higher risk was related to cycle time and the technical actions within their activities, whereas for multifunctional workers, it was related to the range of motion, use of gloves and precision needed in activities. For monofunctional workers, greater risks were associated with a short activity cycle, whereas for multifunctional workers, they were associated with complementary and organizational factors. Moreover, workers whose intracellular activities were less than 30% of the total appeared to be less exposed to the risk of WMSDs.

Abstract Occupational risk is the possibility that some element included in a particular work environment can cause damage to someone’s health. Thereby, the risk is understood as the product of probability and consequences. In this sense, risk analysis through probabilistic stochastic techniques, such as Bayesian networks (BN), becomes an important tool to analyze occupational risks. Thus, this article aims to show how BNs are being used in the field of occupational risk analysis, and to develop a conceptual framework for the construction of the BNs. Therefore, a systematic review analogous to the Statement for Reporting Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) protocol was performed, which allowed the evaluation of learning methods with the BN, building models and also for us propose a conceptual framework for the implementation of BNs in the analysis of occupational risks.

O uso da luz natural como fonte de iluminação, além dos impactos positivos no bem-estar físico e mental do homem, possui vantagens econômicas. Estas, contudo, dependem da obtenção do nível de iluminação requerido para a tarefa. Neste estudo, o potencial de aproveitamento da luz natural foi analisado considerando-se as dimensões mínimas de sistemas de iluminação natural permitidas para ambientes residenciais, tendo como critério o Código de Obras da cidade de João Pessoa. Os sistemas de iluminação natural analisados consistem em componentes de passagem com componentes de condução. Simulação computacional feita com o software Daysim foi adotada para analisar o comportamento da luz natural. Realizaram-se 480 simulações para cinco ambientes, associando três variáveis no componente de condução: peitoril transparente e opaco (i), componente de condução saliente e encravado (ii), cinco profundidades (iii) a três variáveis do entorno: máxima ocupação do solo (i), duas alturas de pavimento (ii), quatro orientações (iii). Os parâmetros de análise foram: iluminância natural útil (INU) e autonomia da luz natural (ALN). Com os resultados, percebe-se que os limites mínimos dos critérios do Código não favorecem o aproveitamento da iluminação natural: 40% dos modelos simulados apresentam iluminação natural insuficiente. Os ambientes iluminados através de janelas altas têm os piores resultados.

Aside from the emotional and health benefits, daylight has been shown to have a significant impact on energy efficiency. The saving potential due to daylighting, however, depends on the daylight availability inside the building. In this work the daylighting performance of rooms in a residential building was analyzed. The daylight system consisted of daylight conduction components associated with pass-through components, designed considering the minimum standards set out by the building code of the city of João Pessoa. The Daysim software was adopted to simulate the daylight, 480 simulations were analyzed, including five different rooms (living room; bedroom; maid’s room; kitchen and bathroom), three variables of pass-through components (opaque and transparent sill; protruding and enclosed balcony; and balcony’s depth), and three variables associated with the surroundings (maximum plot ratio allowed; two stories height; and four facade orientations). Daylight Autonomy (DA) and Useful Daylight Illuminance (UDI) are the performance indicators used to predict the rooms’ performance. We concluded that the minimum standards for conduction and pass-through components set out by the building code can not contribute to the efficient use of daylight (approximately 40% of the simulated models had insufficient daylight), especially when a high window is connected to a pass-through component.

O objetivo deste trabalho é verificar que fatores têm interferência direta no estresse de profissionais médicos em João Pessoa (PB) baseado nas variáveis de uma adaptação do Inventário de Estresse em Enfermeiros (IEE) proposto por Stacciarini and Trocoli (2000). Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário semiestruturado, composto por perguntas de identificação do colaborador seguidas de 44 questões de múltipla escolha, aplicado a 391 médicos que trabalhavam em hospitais. As variáveis não métricas foram submetidas à análise fatorial, que indicou a presença de oito fatores para o estresse entre esses profissionais. Nesses fatores, é possível apontar variáveis que apresentam maior impacto, a saber: relacionamento com a equipe médica, relacionamento com os colegas médicos, trabalhar em equipe, relacionamento com a chefia, trabalhar em instalações físicas inadequadas, falta de material necessário ao trabalho e trabalhar em horário noturno. Esses resultados podem contribuir para o gerenciamento do estresse entre médicos.

The objective of this study is to verify what factors impact directly on the development of stress among physicians in João Pessoa (PB) based on the variables of an adaptation made to the Stress in Nurses Inventory (IEE) proposed by Stacciarini and Trocoli (2000). The data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire composed of identification questions and multiple-choice questions (44) applied to 391 hospital physicians. The non-metric variables were submitted to Factor Analysis, which indicated eight determinant factors for stress among these professionals. It is possible to highlight variables that cause greater impact, such as: "medic-staff relationships", "colleague relationships", "group-working", "relationships with the administration", "working in inadequate environments", "lack of necessary equipment" and "working at night". These results may contribute to stress management among physicians.

A distribuição de gás Linz-Donawitz (LDG), coproduto do processo de produção do aço, para centrais termoelétricas, permite que a energia térmica recuperada seja convertida em energia elétrica, proporcionando benefícios econômicos e ambientais. Este artigo apresenta um modelo computacional baseado em simulação de eventos discretos para investigar o desempenho atual e em futuras expansões do processo semicontínuo de distribuição de gás LDG em uma siderúrgica. A simulação de diferentes cenários indicou que o aumento da demanda de gás recuperado é uma alternativa possível e economicamente viável. Uma redução de 66% na perda de gás é esperada com a inclusão de um novo consumidor que eleve a demanda do gás em 30%. Esta alternativa melhora também a flexibilidade do sistema em situações nas quais o principal consumidor falha ou precisa de uma parada para manutenção.

The distribution of Linz-Donawitz gas (LDG), co-product of steelmaking process, among thermoelectric plants enables the conversion of the thermal energy recovered into electric energy providing economic and environmental profits. This paper presents a computational model, based on the discrete event simulation in order to investigate current performance of the semi-continuous gas distribution process in a steelmaking plant as well as its future performances due to production expansion. Different scenarios simulation indicated that an increase in the recovered gas demand is a possible and economically feasible alternative. A reduction of 66% in gas loss is expected with the inclusion of a new consumer that can increase gas demand by 30%. This alternative also improves the system flexibility in situations when the main consumer fails or needs a break or a maintenance interval.

o objetivo deste artigo é verificar o nível de pressão sonora nas salas de aula e sua interferência na inteligibilidade de fala dos professores. A metodologia utilizada foi do tipo descritivo e exploratório, de natureza qualiquantitativa e efetuada em etapas, a saber: 1) Avaliação do conforto/desconforto; 2) Avaliação acústica; e 3) Avaliação do desempenho vocal. Como resultado, 94,6% dos professores afirmaram que é necessário aumentar o tom de voz para haver inteligibilidade de fala; os níveis de pressão sonora variaram entre o mínimo de 46,60 dB (A) e o máximo de 87,90 dB (A) e o desempenho vocal dos professores esteve entre 49,01 e 83,75 dB (A). Concluiu-se que o baixo rendimento acústico faz com que o professor necessite falar com mais esforço, o que provoca fadiga de fala nos docentes; a origem desse rendimento está vinculada a fontes internas e externas e ao grande número de alunos nas salas de aula.

The goal of this research is to verify the pressure of noise levels in classrooms and its interference on the intelligibility of teachers' speech. The methodology used was of a descriptive and exploratory, quali-quantitative nature undertaken in stages, namely: 1) Evaluation of the comfort/discomfort; 2) Acoustic evaluation and 3) vocal performance evaluation. The findings showed that 94.6 per cent of the teachers said that is necessary to raise the tone of voice for speech to be intelligible; the level of noise pressure varied between a minimum of 46.60 dB (A) and a maximum of 87.90 dB (A); and the vocal performance of the teachers ranged between 49.01 and 83.75 dB (A). It concludes that poor acoustics obliges teachers to speak more strenuously, which causes fatigue in the teachers' speech. The cause of this situation is linked to the internal and external sources and the excess of students in classrooms.

Um ambiente ergonômico ideal para exercer-se atividades bancárias precisa estar termicamente adequado, principalmente segundo a percepção térmica daqueles que realmente promovem a produtividade: os seres humanos. Esta pesquisa possibilitou conhecer-se as características termoambientais destas atividades e, a partir dos dados coletados, aplicou-se o método da Regressão Linear e a técnica exploratória Análise Discriminante para determinar quais variáveis térmicas representam melhor a sensação térmica declarada pelo trabalhador. Para isso, determinaram-se as variáveis do balanço térmico e a sensação térmica de cada trabalhador, baseando-se em normas internacionais. Constatou-se que a temperatura de bulbo seco foi a variável que representou melhor estas preferências e, em situação de conforto, 23,79ºC é a temperatura ideal para que estas atividades sejam exercidas com satisfação térmica.

An ergonomically ideal environment for bank services needs to be thermally adequate, mainly according to the thermal perceptions of those responsible for the productivity, namely, human beings. This research has made it possible to recognize the relevant thermo-environmental characteristics of these activities and, based on the collected data, to apply the Linear Regression method and Discriminant Analysis exploratory technique to determine the thermal variables that may best represent the employee's reported thermal sensations. For this purpose, the variables of thermal balance and sensation of each worker were determined, based on available international standards. It was found that the dry bulb temperature was the one that better represented these preferences. In the comfort situation, 23.79ºC was the ideal temperature for these activities to be performed with thermal satisfaction.
