Abstract Medical communication skills are treated as innate abilities, without the need for training and evaluation. However, they play a very important role in the doctor-patient relationship. Communication deficits are a cause of dissatisfaction and litigation. Quality communication is associated with greater adherence to proposed procedures and increases patient satisfaction and safety. Effective communication is particularly important in Gynecology-Obstetrics and justifies specific training. Formal teaching of communication skills should be included at all levels of medical education, just like technical-scientific skills.

Resumo As capacidades comunicacionais dos médicos são tratadas como habilidades inatas, sem a necessidade de treino e avaliação. Desempenham, no entanto, um papel da maior importância na relação médico-doente. Os déficits de comunicação são causa de descontentamento e motivo de litigância. A comunicação de qualidade está associada a maior adesão aos procedimentos propostos, aumenta a satisfação e segurança do doente. A comunicação eficaz assume particular acutilância em Ginecologia-Obstetrícia e justifica que seja objeto de treino específico. O ensino formal da competência em comunicação deve ser incluído em todos os níveis da educação médica, à semelhança das competências técnico-científicas.

Resumo Desde 2008 que a vacina contra HPV faz parte do Programa Nacional de Vacinação, sendo oferecido a meninas a partir dos 10 anos. Teoricamente a utilização desta vacina em mulheres com mais de 26 anos deve-se ao fato desta manter a eficácia no desenvolvimento de anticorpos e por ter segurança e eficácia comprovadas na prevenção da infeção e no desenvolvimento de lesões benignas, pré invasivas e cancro relacionados com HPV. A vacinação para além dos 26 anos deve ser discutida individualmente, tendo em conta todos os fatores de risco. Assim a vacinação universal até aos 45 anos não está recomendada por nenhuma sociedade nacional ou internacional.

Abstract Since 2008 HPV vaccine is part of the National Vaccination Program, starting at 10 year old girls. The rationale for the use of this vaccine in women over 26 years old, is due to the fact that it maintains the effectiveness in the development of antibodies, proven security and efficacy in the prevention of infection and development of HPV-related benigns lesions or pre invasive or cancer. The vaccination beyond 26 years old must be discussed individually, taking into account all the risk factors. Therefore the universal vaccination till 45 years old is not recommended by any national or international society.

Abstract Office gynecological procedures are crucial for women health. New anesthetic methods that replace general anesthesia propelled the transition from the operating room to an office setting of multiple interventions (insertion of intrauterine devices, biopsies and hysteroscopies with or without with or without minor therapeutic procedures). Moderate to severe pain is often experienced by women, leading to the interruption of the procedure. No consensus exists upon routine use of analgesia during these office procedures. More effective pain control strategies and guidelines are needed for pain relief in outpatient gynecological procedures. The reflection in this work is intended to pave the way for a generalized pain management in gynecological procedures to widespread satisfy women expectations and needs.

Resumo Os procedimentos ginecológicos em ambulatório são cruciais na área da saúde da mulher. Novos métodos anestésicos que substituem a anestesia geral e impulsionam a transição do bloco operatório para o consultório para a realização de múltiplas intervenções diagnósticas e terapêuticas, são indispensáveis. A dor moderada a intensa é frequentemente sentida pelas mulheres, levando à interrupção do procedimento. Não existe consenso sobre o uso de rotina de analgesia durante esses procedimentos em ambulatório. Estratégias e diretrizes de controle da dor mais eficazes são necessárias para o alívio da dor para a realização de alguns procedimentos como são exemplo a introdução de dispositivos intrauterinos e a realização de histeroscopias. Este trabalho é uma reflexão sobre este tópico com o objetivo de abrir caminho para um controlo generalizado da dor em procedimentos ginecológicos de modo a satisfazer amplamente as expectativas e necessidades das mulheres.

Resumo Este ensaio se dirige a um campo lacunar na crítica da economia política: o estudo e a disputa da noção de pessoa no laço social capitalista. Com esse intento, trazemos ‘o indivíduo’ ao foco, defendendo a ideia de que ele configura uma instituição capitalista, isto é, uma regra de pensamento sobre si e sobre os outros que dá consistência à sociedade. Mostramos, então, que essa consistência pode ser percebida na própria análise que Marx faz do capitalismo, uma vez que o preenchimento histórico do sentido do trabalho e a lógica dos conteúdos da mercadoria exigem a produção de sujeitos essencialmente heterônomos, submissos e eivados pela desigualdade. O indivíduo é, assim, reconfigurado, posto no lugar de uma solução de compromisso que propaga um discurso oposto: o de que nossa individualidade é uma marca aparente de autonomia, independência, igualdade e liberdade.

Abstract This essay addresses a lacunar field in the critique of political economy: the study and dispute of the notion of person in the capitalist social bond. With this intention, we bring ‘the individual’ to focus, defending the idea that he or she configures a capitalist institution, that is, a rule of thought about the self and the other that gives consistency to society. We show, then, that this consistency can be perceived in Marx’s own analysis of capitalism, since the historical fulfillment of the meaning of labor and the logic of the contents of the commodity require the production of essentially heteronomous subjects, submissive and driven by inequality. The individual is thus reconfigured, put in the place of a compromise solution that propagates an opposite discourse: that our individuality is an apparent mark of autonomy, independence, equality and freedom.

Resumen Este ensayo se dirige hacia un campo abierto en la crítica de la economía política: el estudio y disputa de la noción de persona en el vínculo social capitalista. Con esta intención, enfocamos al ‘individuo’, defendiendo la idea de que el configura una institución capitalista, es decir, una regla de pensamiento sobre sí mismo y sobre los demás que da consistencia a la sociedad. Mostramos, entonces, que esta consistencia puede percibirse en el propio análisis del capitalismo de Marx, ya que el cumplimiento histórico del sentido del trabajo y la lógica de los contenidos de la mercancía requieren la producción de sujetos esencialmente heterónomos, sumisos y marcados por la desigualdad. El individuo es así reconfigurado, puesto en el lugar de una solución de compromiso que propaga un discurso opuesto: el de que nuestra individualidad es una marca aparente de autonomía, independencia, igualdad y libertad.

RESUMO O conhecimento do equilíbrio higroscópio de adsorção em café é pertinente para a adequação de seu armazenamento, garantindo a qualidade do produto até o consumidor final. Objetivou-se determinar as isotermas de adsorção de grãos de café Arábica (cultivar Acauã Novo) nas temperaturas de 30 ºC, 40 ºC, 50 ºC e 60 ºC, bem como o calor isostérico integral de adsorção. Os teores de água de equilíbrio foram obtidos pelo método estático gravimétrico, com atividades de água entre 0,10 e 0,83 (decimal). A partir dos dados obtidos, foram ajustados diversos modelos matemáticos para representar as isotermas de adsorção. Os critérios estatísticos para a seleção do melhor modelo foram o coeficiente de determinação, erro médio estimado, erro médio relativo e a distribuição de resíduos. O modelo de Peleg foi o que melhor representou as isotermas de adsorção dos grãos de café Arábica nas condições estudadas. As isotermas apresentaram formato sigmoidal tipo II. Sob atividade de água constante, o aumento da temperatura promove diminuição no equilíbrio do teor de umidade em grãos de café Arábica. Os valores de calor isostérico com teor de água entre 0,0191 e 0,2534 (base seca) variaram de 4.042,19 kJ kg-1 a 2.395,48 kJ kg-1.

ABSTRACT The knowledge of the adsorption hygroscopic equilibrium in coffee is pertinent for the adequacy of its storage, thus ensuring the quality of the product to the end consumer. The present study aimed to determine the adsorption isotherms of Arabica coffee (Acauã Novo cultivar) beans at the temperatures of 30 ºC, 40 ºC, 50 ºC and 60 ºC, as well as the integral adsorption isosteric heat. The equilibrium moisture contents were obtained by the gravimetric static method, using water activities between 0.10 and 0.83 (decimal). From the obtained data, several mathematical models were fitted to represent the adsorption isotherms. The statistical criteria for selecting the best model were the coefficient of determination, estimated mean standard error, relative mean error and distribution of residues. The Peleg model was the one that best represented the adsorption isotherms of the Arabica coffee beans under the studied conditions. The isotherms showed a sigmoidal type II shape. For a constant water activity, an increase in the temperature promotes a decrease in the equilibrium moisture content of Arabica coffee beans. In a moisture content range between 0.0191 and 0.2534 (dry base), the isosteric heat values ranged from 4,042.19 kJ kg-1 to 2,395.48 kJ kg-1.

Background: The study about evaluation of the contraceptive practices in Portugal is a cross-sectional survey that evaluated women's contraceptive choices and how they get information and advice about sexuality and contraception. Methods: Women aged between 15 and 49 years completed an anonymous questionnaire with 21 questions, which included open and closed questions on information and use of contraceptive methods. The results were analyzed and compared with the results of the survey performed in 2005 by the Portuguese Gynecology Society. Results: Information about sexuality and contraception at school is acknowledged by 70% of the younger women. For this group other sources of information about contraception are friends, 46,1% and internet 45,9%. On the other side women older than 30 years get information on contraception mainly through family doctors and gynecologists. 94% of sexuality active women use contraception, this percentage is significantly higher than the one observed in 2005, 75,4%. Contraceptive pill remains as the preferred method for Portuguese women although its use decreased from 70,4% to 58% of the women between 2005 and 2015. On the other hand the preference for methods independent from the users, long-acting reversible contraception (LARCs), has significantly increased. Women still maintain a high rate of forgetfulness for the pill and considering this fact the use of emergency contraception is still low. Use of contraception is beneficial for quality of life according to 81% of women in this study. Conclusions: Portuguese women are in general well informed and get an easy access to contraceptive methods. The amount of sexually active women using contraception has increased in ten years and almost achieves 100%. Contraceptive pill is the number one choice for more than 50% of women but the use of LARCs is steadily increasing

Glicose-6-fosfato desidrogenase (G6PDH) e hexoquinase (HK) são importantes enzimas usadas em estudos bioquímicos e médicos e em diversos métodos analíticos. Sistema de duas fases aquosas (SDFA) formado por uma solução polimérica e uma solução eletrolítica proporciona um método para separação e purificação de enzimas com diversas vantagens, incluindo biocompatibilidade, que pode ser facilmente escalonado para nível industrial. Neste trabalho, os efeitos de diferentes valores de pH na estabilidade e na partição (K, coeficiente de partição) por SDFA das enzimas G6PDH e HK, obtidas através de levedura de panificação, foram investigados. Os resultados, obtidos do sistema constituído por 17,5% de PEG 400 e 15,0% de fosfato, mostraram que com a elevação do pH de 5,0 para 8,8, o K HK aumentou 26 vezes e o K G6PDH 2,2 vezes. No sistema 20,0% PEG 1500 : 17,5% fosfato, quando o valor do pH variou de 3,8 para 8,8. os valores de K HK e K G6PDH aumentaram e 13 vezes e 1,2 vez, respectivamente. Isto permite concluir que o coeficiente de partição, para ambas as enzimas, é favorecido pela elevação do pH. Uma análise estatística dos resultados foi conduzida para confirmar esta conclusão.

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and hexokinase (HK) are important enzymes used in biochemical and medical studies and in several analytical methods. Aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) formed by a polymer solution and an electrolyte solution provides a method for the separation and purification of enzymes with several advantages, including biocompatibility and easy scale up of the process. In this work, the effects of different pH values on the storage stability and partitioning behavior (K, partition coefficient) of the enzymes G6PDH and HK from baker's yeast extract were investigated in ATPS. The results, obtained from the 17.5% PEG 400 : 15.0% phosphate system, showed that when the pH was increased from 5.0 to 8.8, the K HK increased 26-fold and the K G6PDH 2.2-fold. In the 20.0% PEG 1500 : 17.5% phosphate system, the K HK and K G6PDH increased 13 and 1.2-fold, when the pH value was increased from 3.8 to 8.8, respectively. This leads to the conclusion that the partition coefficient for both enzymes is favored by high pH values. A statistical analysis of the results was conducted to confirm this conclusion.
