Resumo As Diretrizes Brasileiras de Reabilitação do Acidente Vascular Cerebral (AVC) - Parte II, desenvolvida pelo Departamento Científico de Reabilitação Neurológica da Academia Brasileira de Neurologia é voltada para intervenções específicas de técnicas de reabilitação de déficits neurológicos e incapacidades. Seguindo o mesmo modelo da Parte I, a Parte II também se baseia em estudos randomizados, revisões sistemáticas, metanálises e outras diretrizes sobre o mesmo tema. A segunda parte aborda os distúrbios da comunicação, disfagia, controle postural e equilíbrio, ataxias, espasticidade, reabilitação do membro superior, marcha, cognição, negligência espacial unilateral, déficits sensoriais, reabilitação domiciliar, aderênciaao usode medicamentos, cuidados paliativos,ofuturodareabilitação no AVC, e websites de orientação sobre AVC para pacientes e cuidadores. Nosso objetivo é fornecer aos profissionais envolvidos na reabilitação conhecimento atualizado e recomendações para um melhor cuidado no pós-AVC.

Abstract The Brazilian Practice Guidelines for Stroke Rehabilitation – Part II, developed by the Scientific Department of Neurological Rehabilitation of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, in Portuguese), focuses on specific rehabilitation techniques to aid recovery from impairment and disability after stroke. As in Part I, Part II is also based on recently available evidence from randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other guidelines. Part II covers disorders of communication, dysphagia, postural control and balance, ataxias, spasticity, upper limb rehabilitation, gait, cognition, unilateral spatial neglect, sensory impairments, home rehabilitation, medication adherence, palliative care, cerebrovascular events related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, the future of stroke rehabilitation, and stroke websites to support patients and caregivers. Our goal is to provide health professionals with more recent knowledge and recommendations for better rehabilitation care after stroke.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar o perfil sensorial de crianças com TPAC, de acordo com o Child Sensory Profile 2 e verificar possíveis associações entre o PAC e o PS. Método Foram avaliadas 60 crianças em idade escolar de duas escolas públicas de João Pessoa, PB. Todas realizaram triagem cognitiva, tiveram suas informações socioeconômicas colhidas e foram submetidas às avaliações audiológica, do processamento auditivo central e do processamento sensorial. A análise dos dados foi feita com o SPSS Statistics, versão 25.0, e o valor de significância adotado foi de 0,05. Foi realizada a análise descritiva com medidas de tendência central. A associação entre as variáveis foi medida pelos testes t de Student e U de Mann-Whitney. O tamanho do efeito da diferença entre os grupos foi medido pelo coeficiente d de Cohen ou r de Rosenthal. Resultados As crianças com TPAC tinham idade média de 8,4 anos, e suas famílias apresentaram renda e escolaridade inferior aquelas sem alteração do processamento auditivo. Foi observado que crianças com TPAC apresentam mais diferenças sensoriais que seus pares com PAC normal. Os resultados do Child Sensory Profile 2 não mostrou associação estatística com o processamento auditivo e a magnitude do tamanho do efeito entre as variáveis foi moderada para o sistema visual. Conclusão Crianças com TPAC tem mais diferenças sensoriais que seus pares de acordo com o resultado normativo do Child Sensory Profile 2. Não foi observada associação entre o processamento sensorial e auditivo central, com exceção do sistema visual.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the sensory profile of children with auditory sensory processing disorder according to the Child Sensory Profile 2 and to verify potential associations between central auditory processing and sensory processing. Methods Sixty children from two public schools in the city of João Pessoa, state of Paraíba, were evaluated. All children had their cognitive skills tested and their socioeconomic and demographic information collected. The children’s hearing, central auditory processing, and sensory processing were evaluated. SPSS Statistics version 25.0 was used for data analysis and the significant value adopted was 0.05. Descriptive analysis was performed using the central tendency method. The similarities among the test variables were measured by Student’s t-test and Mann-Whitney U test. The effect size (ES) between the groups was measured by Cohen’s d or Rosenthal’s r coefficient. Results The average age of children with CAPD was 8.4 years, and their families had lower levels of income and education when compared to those without the disorder. Children with CAPD present more sensory differences than their peers with normative CAP. The Child Sensory Processing 2 results didn’t show any statistic associations with central auditory processing, and the effect size was of moderate magnitude for the visual system. Conclusion Children with CAPD have more sensory differences than their peers according to the normative results of the Child Sensory Profile 2. An association between sensory and central auditory processing was not observed, except for the visual system.

Resumo Introdução Entre os testes de processamento auditivo aplicados atualmente, os testes de escuta dicótica têm sido amplamente usados, uma vez que permitem investigar a função hemisférica e inter-hemisférica e suas respectivas habilidades, para processar a informação auditiva recebida. Objetivo Obter medidas de referência de normalidade com o novo teste dicótico de reconhecimento de sentenças em indivíduos adultos, destros, com audição normal. Método Estudo quantitativo, observacional, de corte transversal. Foram avaliados 72 indivíduos, entre 19 e 44 anos, destros, com audição normal, sem queixa auditiva. O teste dicótico de reconhecimento de sentenças é constituído por diferentes listas de sentenças, que foram combinadas duas a duas e apresentadas ao mesmo tempo, por meio de fones auriculares em ambas as orelhas, a 50 dB nível de sensação. O teste foi aplicado em quatro etapas: treino das 3 etapas, atenção livre, atenção direcionada direita e esquerda, avaliou assim diferentes habilidades auditivas. Resultados Na tarefa de atenção livre, as porcentagens médias de acertos na orelha direita foram de 93,59% e na orelha esquerda de 86,06%, com diferença estatisticamente significante entre as orelhas, com vantagem para a orelha direita. Na tarefa de atenção direcionada, as porcentagens médias de acertos foram de 99,37% na orelha direita e de 98,8% na orelha esquerda, sem diferença estatística entre as orelhas. Conclusão Sugere-se como referência de normalidade na etapa de atenção livre, para a orelha direita, 90% e 100% de acertos e para a orelha esquerda, de 80% a 100%. Quando houver assimetria entre as orelhas, são esperadas diferenças de até 20%, com vantagem para a orelha direita. Para a etapa de atenção direcionada os valores de referência de normalidade esperados são de 100% para a orelha direita e para a orelha esquerda, sem assimetria entre as orelhas, mas se ocorrer é esperada diferença entre as orelhas de 10%, com vantagem para a orelha direita.

Abstract Introduction Among the currently-applied auditory processing tests, dichotic listening tests have been widely used, since they allow investigating the hemispheric and inter-hemispheric function and their respective skills to process the received auditory information. Objective To obtain normality reference measures with the new dichotic sentence identification test in right-handed adults with normal hearing. Methods Quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study. 72 subjects were assessed, aged 19-44 years, right-handed, with normal hearing, without hearing complaints. The dichotic sentence identification test consists of different lists of sentences, which were combined two by two and presented at the same time, using earphones in both ears, at 50 dB Sensation Level. The test was applied in four stages: training of the 3 stages, free attention, right and left directed attention, thus evaluating different auditory skills. Results In the free attention task, the average percentage of correct answers in the right ear was 93.59% and in the left ear 86.06%, with a statistically significant difference between the ears, with an advantage for the right ear. In the directed attention task, the average percentage of correct answers was 99.37% in the right ear and 98.8% in the left ear, with no statistical difference between the ears. Conclusion It is suggested, as a normality reference for the stage of free attention, 90%-100% for correct answers for the right ear and for the left ear, from 80% to 100%. When there is asymmetry between the ears, differences of up to 20% are expected, with an advantage for the right ear For the directed attention stage, the expected normality reference values are 100% for the right ear and for the left ear, with no asymmetry between the ears; however, if it occurs, a difference of 10% is expected between the ears, with an advantage for the right ear.

RESUMO. A linguagem encontra-se comumente alterada na síndrome corticobasal (SCB). No entanto, o perfil e a forma de avaliação da linguagem na SCB são pouco estudados. Objetivo: identificar as alterações de linguagem na SCB. Método: Realizou-se uma busca na base de dados Medline/PubMed, com as palavras-chave “síndrome corticobasal” OU “degeneração corticobasal” E “linguagem”. Artigos sobre SCB envolvendo avaliação de linguagem, escritos em inglês, foram incluídos, sem restrição de data de publicação. Resultados: Foram encontrados 259 artigos, e 35 estudos foram analisados, abrangendo 531 sujeitos. Um total de 28 estudos mostraram déficits heterogêneos de linguagem, e sete mencionaram afasia progressiva primária não-fluente. Os testes mais utilizados foram Western Aphasia Battery (8 estudos) e o Teste de Nomeação de Boston (8 estudos). Conclusão: Não foi possível identificar um perfil linguístico único em pacientes com SCB.

ABSTRACT. Language is commonly impacted in corticobasal syndrome (CBS). However, the profile and type of language assessment in CBS are poorly studied. Objective: To identify language impairments in CBS. Methods: A search was performed in the Medline/PubMed database, according to the PRISMA criteria, using the keywords “corticobasal syndrome” OR “corticobasal degeneration” AND “language”. Articles on CBS covering language assessment that were written in English were included, with no constraints on the publication date. Results: A total of 259 articles were found and 35 were analyzed, consisting of 531 participants. Twenty-eight studies showed heterogeneous language deficits and seven mentioned nonfluent primary progressive aphasia. The most used tests were the Western Aphasia Battery (8 studies) and the Boston Naming Test (8 studies). Conclusion: It was not possible to identify a unique linguistic profile in CBS.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar como as vias auditivas codificam e diferenciam as sílabas plosivas [ga],[da] e [ba], por meio do potencial evocado auditivo Frequency Following Response (FFR), nas crianças em desenvolvimento típico. Método Vinte crianças (6-12 anos) foram avaliadas por meio do FFR para estímulos [ga],[da] e [ba]. Os estímulos foram compostos por seis formantes, sendo diferenciados na transição F2 e F3 (porção transiente). Os demais formantes foram idênticos nas três sílabas (porção sustentada). Foram analisadas latências de 16 ondas que compõe a porção transiente do estímulo (<70ms) e latências de 21 ondas da porção sustentada (90-160ms) nas respostas neurais obtidas para cada uma das sílabas. Resultados As respostas eletrofisiológicas registradas por meio do FFR demonstraram que as latências da porção transiente da resposta neural foram diferentes nas três silabas evocadas. Além disso, os valores de latência das ondas da porção transiente foram aumentando progressivamente, sendo [ga]<[da]<[ba]. Já na porção sustentada da resposta, não houve diferenças significantes nas latências das ondas que compõe essa porção. Conclusão O FFR mostrou-se uma ferramenta eficiente na investigação da discriminação subcortical de diferenças acústicas dos sons de fala, uma vez que demonstrou diferentes resposta eletrofisiológica para três silabas evocadas. Na porção transiente (consoantes) foram observadas mudanças de latência e na porção sustentada (vogal) não houve diferenças entre as latências para os três estímulos. Esses resultados demonstram a capacidade neural de distinção entre características acústicas dos estímulos [ga],[da],[ba].

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate how the auditory pathways encode and discriminate the plosive syllables [ga], [da] and [ba] using the auditory evoked Frequency-following Response (FFR) in children with typical development. Methods Twenty children aged 6-12 years were evaluated using the FFR for the [ga], [da] and [ba] stimuli. The stimuli were composed of six formants and were differentiated in the F2 to F3 transition (transient portion). The other formants were identical in the three syllables (sustained portion). The latencies of the 16 waves of the transient portion (<70ms) and of the 21 waves of the sustained portion (90-160ms) of the stimuli were analyzed in the neural responses obtained for each of the syllables. Results The transient portion latencies were different in the three syllables, indicating a distinction in the acoustic characteristics of these syllables through their neural representations. In addition, the transient portion latencies progressively increased in the following order: [ga] <[da] <[ba], whereas no significant differences were observed in the sustained portion. Conclusion The FFR proved to be an efficient tool to investigate the subcortical acoustic differences in speech sounds, since it demonstrated different electrophysiological responses for the three evoked syllables. Changes in latency were observed in the transient portion (consonants) but not in the sustained portion (vowels) for the three stimuli. These results indicate the neural ability to distinguish between acoustic characteristics of the [ga], [da] and [ba] stimuli.

Resumo: Objetivo: caracterizar o desempenho de escolares de 5º ano do ensino fundamental de escola pública e privada em processamento auditivo, vocabulário receptivo e compreensão leitora. Método: foram avaliadas 34 crianças do 5º ano do ensino fundamental (GPub: 16 de escola pública; e GPriv: 18 de escola privada), cujos pais e professores responderam a questionários sobre o desenvolvimento da linguagem, nível socioeconômico e desempenho acadêmico. As habilidades auditivas de figura-fundo e associação de estímulos auditivos e visuais, figura-fundo para sons linguísticos, integração binaural, ordenação temporal e resolução temporal foram avaliadas com os testes comportamentais Pediatric Speech Intelligibility Test, Dicótico de Dígitos, Teste Padrão de Frequência versão da Auditec® e Gaps-in-Noise. O vocabulário foi avaliado com o Teste de Vocabulário por Figuras USP e a compreensão leitora com teste PROLEC. Resultados: houve diferença significante entre o nível socioeconômico dos grupos pesquisados, embora, em ambos os grupos, pôde-se observar resultados dentro dos valores de referência nos testes aplicados. Houve uma tendência a pontuações mais elevadas no grupo de alunos da escola privada. Houve diferença nos testes Dicótico de Dígitos e Padrão de Frequência. Os valores obtidos no teste de resolução temporal se equipararam à normalidade, assim como na avaliação da compreensão leitora. A maioria das crianças do ensino privado concentrou-se nas categorias ‘elevado’ e ‘médio’ do teste de vocabulário. As crianças do ensino público concentraram-se nas categorias ‘médio’ e ‘rebaixado’. Conclusão: as crianças do ensino público apresentaram uma vantagem da orelha direita na tarefa dicótica. A resolução temporal atingiu valores esperados para a população adulta em ambos os grupos. Melhor desempenho em vocabulário foi observado nas crianças mais favorecidas economicamente. A leitura encontra-se desenvolvida no 5º ano do ensino fundamental de ambas as redes.

Abstract: Purpose: To characterize the performance of 5th grade students from public and private elementary schools in auditory processing, receptive vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Methods: The study sample was composed of 34 Elementary School (5th grade) students: 16 from public school (PubG) and 18 from private school (PrivG), whose parents and teachers responded to questionnaires on their language development, socioeconomic level, and academic performance. The auditory skills of figure-ground, association between auditory and visual stimuli, figure-ground for linguistic sounds, binaural integration, temporal ordering, and temporal resolution were assessed using the following auditory behavioral instruments: Pediatric Speech Intelligibility (PSI) test, Dichotic Digits Test (DDT), Auditec® Frequency Pattern Test (FPT), and Gaps-in-Noise (GIN) test. Receptive vocabulary and reading comprehension were evaluated using the TVF-usp and PROLEC tests, respectively. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the socioeconomic level of students in both schools. Although the results obtained in the applied tests were within the reference values in both groups, there was a tendency to higher scores in the PrivG. Differences between the groups were also verified in the DDT and FPT. Values similar to normality were obtained in the temporal resolution and reading comprehension assessments. On the vocabulary test, most school children in the PrivG were concentrated in the ‘high’ and ‘middle’ categories, whereas those in the PubG were in the ‘middle’ and ‘low’ categories. Conclusion: There are differences in performance between students from private and public schools. Public school children presented right ear advantage in the dichotic task, whereas private school children showed more efficient mechanisms and strategies regarding auditory stimuli for the tasks of binaural integration, temporal ordering, and interhemispheric transfer. Temporal resolution reached values expected for the adult population in both groups. Better vocabulary performance was observed in the most economically favored children. Elementary School (5th grade) students from both school networks present developed reading.

Resumo Introdução A maior parte da população é capaz de executar movimentos e atividades cotidianas com relativa competência. É bem documentado na literatura o perfil de algumas crianças que têm muita dificuldade para realizar atividades consideradas típicas da infância. Crianças com transtorno do desenvolvimento da coordenação (TDC) demonstram prejuízo acentuado no desenvolvimento das habilidades motoras, com possíveis repercussões na saúde física e mental. Objetivo Investigar as percepções da díade mãe-criança sobre os prováveis impactos do TDC no desempenho ocupacional das crianças e no dia a dia da família; explorar as relações existentes entre as ocupações, habilidades e ambiente; investigar a influência do transtorno no autoconceito e autoeficácia das crianças. Método Trata-se de um estudo exploratório de corte transversal, de abordagem qualitativa que contou com a participação de 3 mães e 3 crianças. A análise dos dados foi feita por análise de conteúdo. Resultados Duas categorias emergiram: oportunidades de brincar e de fazer e impactos na escola. As mães percebem as dificuldades relacionadas ao desempenho das ocupações das crianças, principalmente nas atividades escolares. Algumas questões do contexto social foram identificadas pelas mães como balizadoras das oportunidades de brincar de suas crianças. As crianças compreendem que têm algumas dificuldades e uma delas identifica problemas na relação com os colegas. Conclusão Acredita-se que o estudo possa contribuir para reforçar a necessidade de reconhecimento do TDC e sua co-ocorrência com dificuldades de aprendizagem como um problema persistente e impactante no cotidiano de crianças e suas famílias, e a importância de fatores ambientais como mediadores da oferta de oportunidades de brincar das crianças.

Abstract Introduction Most of the population can carry out daily activities with competence. The profile of some children who have difficulty doing typical activities of childhood is well documented in the literature. Children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) demonstrate a marked effort in the development of motor skills, with possible repercussions on mental health. Objective To investigate the perceptions of mothers and their children about the impacts caused by DCD on everyday life; to explore the relations between the occupations, skills, and the environment; to investigate potential influences of the disorder on children’s self-concept and self-efficacy. Method This is an exploratory cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach involving three mothers and three children. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results Three categories emerged: play and doing opportunities and impacts in school activities. Mothers perceived difficulties on occupational performance of their children, especially in school activities. Social context's characteristics are related to the offer of play opportunities for the children. The children understand that they have some difficulties, and one child identifies peer problems. Conclusion This study can highlight the importance of the recognition of DCD and its co-occurrence with learning disability as a persistent problem that affects children’s and their families’ everyday life, and the role of environmental factors on the opportunities children have to play.

RESUMO Objetivos Identificar estudos que tenham abordado as avaliações do processamento auditivo central, eletrofisiológicas e/ou comportamentais, em crianças e adolescentes acometidos por acidente vascular cerebral. Estratégia de pesquisa Conduziu-se uma busca no mês de julho de 2017, usando os descritores: stroke , auditory perception, childhood, child, children e evoked potentials auditory nas bases de dados PubMed, Scopus e SciELO. Critérios de seleção Foram selecionados artigos em inglês e português, publicados até julho de 2017, sem limitação de data inicial. Os artigos deveriam apresentar abordagem metodológica que referisse achados da avaliação do processamento auditivo central, em crianças e adolescentes com diagnóstico de acidente vascular cerebral. Resultados Inicialmente, foram encontrados 15 estudos, resultando na seleção de três artigos que atendiam aos critérios de inclusão e que foram considerados relevantes para a amostra deste estudo. Devido ao fato de que nenhum dos estudos incluídos tenha utilizado os potenciais evocados auditivos de longa latência em suas avaliações audiológicas, optou-se por realizar uma segunda busca, com os descritores: stroke AND children AND evoked potentials, auditory, nas mesmas bases de dados. Com estes descritores, obteve-se 36 artigos e, destes, apenas um artigo foi selecionado, de acordo com os critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Conclusão Foram verificados poucos estudos na literatura, que tenham avaliado o processamento auditivo central em crianças e adolescentes acometidos por acidente vascular cerebral. Não obstante, salienta-se a importância dos estudos encontrados para contribuição nos processos de diagnóstico e de monitoramento terapêutico dessa população.

ABSTRACT Purpose To identify studies that have addressed Central Auditory Processing (CAP), through electrophysiological and/or behavioral tests, in children and adolescents affected by Stroke. Research strategy A search was conducted in July 2017, using the descriptors: “stroke ”, auditory perception”, “childhood ”, “child” and “ evoked potentials, auditory” in PubMed, Scopus and SciELO databases. Selection criteria Articles written in English, Portuguese and Spanish, published until July 2017, without start date limitation. The articles should present a methodological approach that refers to the findings of central auditory processing assessment in children and adolescents diagnosed with stroke. Results First, 15 studies were found, and three of them were selected because they met the inclusion criteria and were considered relevant for the sample of the present study. As none of the included studies used LLAEP in their audiological assessments, a second search was performed with the descriptors: “stroke” AND “ children” AND “evoked potentials, auditory ” in the same databases. A total of 36 papers were found with these descriptors but only one paper was selected, according to the established inclusion criteria. Conclusion Few studies in the literature have assessed central auditory processing in children and adolescents with stroke. Nevertheless, the studies are important for diagnos and therap monitoring in this population.

OBJECTIVES: To verify the neuromaturational influence in the ability of auditory closure, that is, to verify the performance of children and young adults in the ability of auditory closure, through the time compressed speech test (TCS). METHODS: Thirty children (8 to 10 years old) and 30 young adults (16 to 24 years old) with normal hearing without complaints (neurological, cognitive, auditory processing) who performed TFC (monosyllables and disyllables) with a compression ratio of 60% in both ears. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and ANOVA with repeated measures with a significance level of 0.05. The minimum statistical power was 80%. RESULTS: In the comparison between ears, there was no significant difference between groups for the monosyllables. For disyllables, the second ear tested was better in children, and the right ear was better than the left ear for young adults. In the comparison between modalities (monosyllables and disyllables), children did not show significant differences. The performance of the young adults was better in the disyllables in both ears. Comparing the age groups, the young adults were better than the children for both modalities and ears. CONCLUSION: The study has demonstrated the influence and impact of age (maturational factor) on TCS test performance, showing the importance of establishing normality patterns for various age groups to provide a standardized tool for evaluation of auditory closure ability.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar o desempenho das habilidades de percepção musical e das habilidades auditivas temporais de resolução e ordenação pré e pós-musicoterapia em pacientes pós-linguais usuários de implante coclear. Método Participaram do estudo 11 indivíduos (média de idade: 47,64 anos) pós-linguais implantados, que foram submetidos a 10 sessões de musicoterapia, sendo uma por semana. Para a avaliação auditiva, foram utilizados o teste Montreal Battery Evaluation of Amusia e o teste de padrão de frequência (TPF). Todos os participantes passaram por um momento placebo antes da musicoterapia e foram avaliados em três momentos distintos. Resultados Foi observada melhora significativa nos subtestes das habilidades musicais de contorno e melodia após musicoterapia. Não foi observado efeito placebo e nem diferença do TPF após a musicoterapia. Conclusão A musicoterapia foi uma ferramenta útil para melhorar as habilidades auditivas musicais em indivíduos adultos pós-linguais usuários de IC.

ABSTRACT Purpose Verify the performance of musical perception and temporal auditory resolution and ordering skills in pre- and post-music therapy patients with cochlear implants (CI). Methods Study participants were 11 postlingual CI users with mean age of 47.64 years. All individuals underwent 10 weekly music therapy sessions. Auditory assessment was conducted using the Montreal Battery of Evaluation of Amusia (MBEA) and the Frequency Pattern Test (FPT). All participants were submitted to a placebo condition prior to music therapy and were evaluated at three different times. Results Significant improvement was observed in the subtests of contour and melody memory after music therapy. No placebo effect or difference in the FPT was observed after music therapy. Conclusion Music therapy is a useful tool to improve musical skills in adult postlingual users of CI.

RESUMO Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar o software Logiciel d’Écoute dans le Bruit - LEB, verificar sua efetividade e jogabilidade em um grupo de escolares sem queixas auditivas e/ou de aprendizagem. Métodos A efetividade foi investigada por meio da análise do desempenho de dois grupos pareados, antes e depois do treinamento, no teste de fala comprimida. O grupo treinado (GT), constituído por 22 escolares, entre 9 a 10 anos de idade, recebeu treinamento com o software e o grupo controle (GC), composto por 20 escolares da mesma faixa etária, não recebeu nenhum tipo de estimulação. Após o treinamento, os sujeitos do GT responderam a uma avaliação qualitativa sobre o software. Resultados Os comandos foram compreendidos e executados com facilidade e eficácia. O questionário revelou que o LEB foi bem aceito e estimulante, proporcionando novos aprendizados. O GT apresentou evoluções significativas, em comparação ao GC. Conclusão O êxito na tradução, adaptação e jogabilidade do software fica evidenciado pelas mudanças observadas na habilidade de fechamento auditivo, sugerindo sua efetividade para treinamento da percepção da fala no ruído.

ABSTRACT Purpose To translate and to adapt the software “LEB”, verify its effectiveness and playability in a group of students without hearing and / or learning complaints. Methods (I) Effectiveness was investigated by analyzing the performance of two paired groups before and after training in the compressed speech test. The trained group (TG), composed by 22 students aged 9 to 10 years old, received training with the software and the control group (CG), composed by 20 students of the same age, did not receive any type of stimulation; (II) after the training, the subjects of the TG responded to a qualitative evaluation about the software. Results The commands were understood and executed easily and effectively. The questionnaire revealed that LEB was well accepted and stimulating, providing new learning. The GT presented significant evolutions in comparison to the control group. Conclusions The success in the software’s translation, adaptation and gameplay process is evidenced by the observed changes in the auditory closure ability, suggesting its effectiveness for training speech perception in the noise.

RESUMO Objetivo investigar a eficácia do treinamento auditivo nessa população, utilizando o software Programa de Escuta no Ruído (PER), que aborda, entre as habilidades de processamento auditivo, a escuta no ruído. Método participaram deste estudo 18 crianças com idades entre 8 e 10 anos, de ambos os gêneros. Todos os sujeitos participaram das seguintes etapas: avaliação pré-intervenção, intervenção constituída por treino placebo, reavaliação do processamento auditivo e treino auditivo e reavaliação pós-intervenção, de forma que o sujeito seja controle dele mesmo. Resultados não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre a avaliação pré-intervenção e a reavaliação do processamento auditivo pós-treino placebo, mas houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre as condições pré e pós-treinamento auditivo. Conclusão o presente estudo alcançou seu objetivo geral. O software PER se mostrou eficaz para o treinamento auditivo em escolares com transtorno do processamento auditivo e baixo desempenho escolar.

ABSTRACT Purpose Investigate the efficacy of auditory training in students with auditory processing disorders and poor school performance using the software Programa de Escuta no Ruído (PER), which addresses auditory processing skills, specifically listening in noise. Methods Eighteen children aged 8-10 years, of both genders, participated in this study. All individuals participated in the following stages: pre-intervention assessment, intervention (consisting of placebo training, re-evaluation of auditory processing, and auditory training), and post-intervention assessment, so that the same individual is self-control. Results No statistically significant difference was observed between the pre-intervention assessment and the post-training auditory processing re-evaluation of the placebo, but statistically significant difference was found between the pre- and post-auditory training conditions. Conclusion The present study achieved its general objective. The PER software proved to be effective for the auditory training of students with auditory processing disorders and poor school performance.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar o efeito da escolaridade na compreensão auditiva de sentenças em idosos cognitivamente saudáveis. Método Foram avaliados 111 idosos normais, com idades entre 60 e 80 anos, de ambos os gêneros, divididos em dois grupos, de acordo com a escolaridade: baixa escolaridade (0 a 8 anos de ensino formal) e alta escolaridade (9 ou mais anos de ensino formal). Os indivíduos foram examinados por meio do Token Test Revisado, que dá suporte para a avaliação da compreensão auditiva de ordens com diferentes demandas de memória operacional e complexidade sintática. Os indicadores utilizados para análise do desempenho foram números de acertos (análise de acurácia) e tempo de execução da tarefa (análise temporal) nos diferentes blocos. Resultados O grupo de baixa escolaridade apresentou menor número de acertos que o grupo de alta escolaridade em todos os blocos do teste. Na análise temporal, os idosos de baixa escolaridade apresentaram maior tempo para execução das ordens nos primeiros quatro blocos, mais relacionados à memória operacional. Porém, os grupos apresentaram tempo de execução semelhante quanto aos blocos mais relacionados à compreensão sintática. Conclusão A escolaridade influenciou a habilidade de compreensão auditiva de sentenças em indivíduos idosos. A análise temporal permitiu inferir sobre a relação da compreensão com outras habilidades cognitivas e observar que os idosos de baixa escolaridade não utilizam estratégias eficazes de compensação para melhorar o desempenho na tarefa. Portanto, o baixo nível educacional, associado ao envelhecimento, pode potencializar os riscos para o declínio da linguagem.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the effect of education on sentence listening comprehension on cognitively healthy elderly. Methods A total of 111 healthy elderly, aged 60-80 years of both genders were divided into two groups according to educational level: low education (0-8 years of formal education) and high education (≥9 years of formal education). The participants were assessed using the Revised Token Test, an instrument that supports the evaluation of auditory comprehension of orders with different working memory and syntactic complexity demands. The indicators used for performance analysis were the number of correct responses (accuracy analysis) and task execution time (temporal analysis) in the different blocks. Results The low educated group had a lower number of correct responses than the high educated group on all blocks of the test. In the temporal analysis, participants with low education had longer execution time for commands on the first four blocks related to working memory. However, the two groups had similar execution time for blocks more related to syntactic comprehension. Conclusion Education influenced sentence listening comprehension on elderly. Temporal analysis allowed to infer over the relationship between comprehension and other cognitive abilities, and to observe that the low educated elderly did not use effective compensation strategies to improve their performances on the task. Therefore, low educational level, associated with aging, may potentialize the risks for language decline.

RESUMO Objetivo: Discutir a aplicabilidade clínica do Potencial Evocado Auditivo com Estímulo de Fala (PEATEf) no auxílio à identificação dos transtornos do processamento auditivo. Métodos : Foram selecionados os prontuários de 27 crianças e adolescentes, com idade entre sete e 15 anos, que apresentaram alteração no PEATEf. Foram levantados os dados referentes à avaliação comportamental do processamento auditivo desses indivíduos. Resultados: Observou-se que das 27 crianças com PEATEf alterado, 23 também apresentaram alteração de processamento auditivo. A partir dessa amostra, foi possível apontar probabilidade de 85,15% em observar avaliação comportamental do processamento auditivo alterada em uma criança que apresentou PEATEf também alterado. Conclusão: Sugere-se que o PEATEf pode ser utilizado na prática clínica como uma ferramenta importante no diagnóstico do Transtorno do Processamento Auditivo, uma vez que neste estudo uma alteração do PEATEf quase sempre representou, também, uma alteração nos resultados da avaliação comportamental do processamento auditivo, portanto pode ser utilizado para obter informações acerca da percepção dos sons da fala em crianças menores de sete anos ou de difícil avaliação comportamental.

ABSTRACT Purpose : To discuss the clinical applicability of the speech-evoked Auditory Brainstem Response (speech-evoked ABR) to help identifying auditory processing disorders. Methods : We analyzed the records of 27 children and adolescents, aged between seven and 15, who presented abnormal speech-evoked ABR. Then, the data from the behavioral auditory processing evaluation of these individuals were surveyed. Results : It was observed that, among the 27 children with abnormal speech-evoked ABR, 23 also had auditory processing disorders. Therefore, from this sample, an 85.15% probability of observing abnormal behavioral assessment of auditory processing in a child who presented abnormal speech-evoked ABR was obtained. Conclusion : It is argued that the speech-evoked ABR can be used in clinical practice as an important aid tool in the diagnosis of auditory processing disorder, because, in this study, an abnormal speech-evoked ABR usually represented a deficit in the results of behavioral assessment of auditory processing. Thus, it can be used to obtain information about the perception of speech sounds in children under seven years or with challenging behavioral assessment.
