Abstract In 2018, the Social Liberal Party (PSL), of little relevance until then, secured Jair Bolsonaro’s election as President of Brazil and achieved success in state and national legislative elections. Building upon these results, the question arises: which party aspects contributed to success in the legislative contests? In this article, we analyze the party’s organizational factors and candidacies, pointing out that the Bolsonaro-led coordination conferred a centralizing profile to the party. Thus, despite having low institutionalization, the PSL capitalized on the benefits of the Bolsonaro phenomenon for other contests beyond the presidential one.

Resumo Em 2018, o Partido Social Liberal (PSL), até então inexpressivo, conquistou a eleição de Jair Bolsonaro para presidente do Brasil e teve sucesso também nas eleições legislativas estaduais e nacional. Neste artigo, analisamos os fatores organizacionais e as candidaturas do PSL e apontamos que a coordenação bolsonarista conferiu um perfil centralizador ao partido. Abstract Although globalization is an interdisciplinary subject, phenomena such as foreign direct investments (FDI) are thought of as belonging to the economic sphere. In this article, we draw from the global production network model and the New Economic Sociology of FDIs to test the embeddedness of economic action. We've designed a least likely case study from an FDI in the auto industry, evaluating Nissan Motor Co.’s decision-making process to build an automobile factory in Brazil. Nanoparticles of zein (NPZ) stabilized with surfactant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and nanoparticles of zein/PVA loaded with eugenol (NPZ-Eug) and the essential oil extracted from the clove (Syzygium aromaticum) (NPZ-OC) were produced by nanoprecipitation method. The extraction method of essential oil of the clove was carried out by the hydrodistillation technique, obtaining a content of 81.5% (m/m) of eugenol. The nanoparticle preparation method was optimized using a one-factor-at-a-time design of experiments, where different levels of variables (zein concentration, PVA concentration, and eugenol concentration) were explored. The best condition of synthesis was obtained with 0.3% (m/v) zein, 0.6% (m/v) PVA and 1.5 mg L-1 eugenol or essential oil of the clove, reaching NPs with acceptable propriety for stable nanoparticulate systems: size particles (NPZ = 113, NPZ-Eug = 229 and NPZ-OC = 279 nm), polydispersity index (PDI < 0.26), and zeta potential (≈ -30 mV). Loaded NPs showed encapsulation efficiency and drug-loading of 52 and 20% (NPZ-Eug), and 62, 27% (NPZ-OC), respectively. The quantification method of eugenol was validated by analytical parameters. Finally, all NPs produced exhibited good colloidal stability, confirming the effectiveness of PVA as a stabilizing agent, which had not been previously reported for these systems. ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the duplicity and synergism of slow drying and storage processes at low temperatures, using a refrigerated room under suitable conditions for coffee fruit just after harvest. A cold room was prepared to receive and store coffee fruit in bulk directly from the field, perform slow drying, and maintain water content at approximately 12% during three months of storage. The room operated at temperatures between 7 and 14 ºC and relative humidity between 37 and 41%. The coffee variety used was the Conilon Yellow 62. The initial water content reduction period from 54% (wb) to 12% (wb) was two months. For comparison, coffee harvested from the same batch was dried on a covered suspended bed. Results showed that the coffee dried and stored in the cold room received a sensory score of 86.41, while that dried on a suspended bed obtained a sensory score of 84.16. RESUMO Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar a ocorrência de oocistos de Cryptosporidium e cistos de Giardia em águas brutas, filtradas e cloradas, coletadas de duas estações de tratamento de água potável (ETA A e ETA B). A ETA A utiliza filtração direta ou flotação-filtração dependendo da turbidez da água bruta. A ETA B possui duas linhas de tratamento independentes, uma de filtração direta e outra de tratamento convencional. Os oocistos de Cryptosporidium e cistos de Giardia foram concentrados por floculação, identificados por microscopia de imunofluorescência direta e confirmados por coloração com DAPI e microscopia de contraste de fase. Na água bruta, a ocorrência de cistos variou de 75% (ETA A) a 100% (ETA B) das amostras, e de oocistos de 66,6% (ETA A) a 83,3% (ETA B). ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts in raw, filtered, and chlorinated waters collected from two drinking water treatment plants (WTP A and WTP B). WTP A uses either direct filtration or flotation-filtration depending on the turbidity of raw water. WTP B has two independent treatment lines, a direct filtration and a conventional treatment line. Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts were concentrated by flocculation, identified by direct immunofluorescence microscopy and confirmed by DAPI staining and phase-contrast microscopy. In raw water, the occurrence of cysts was from 75 (WTP A) to 100% (WTP B) of the samples, and of oocysts from 66.6 (WTP A) to 83.3% (WTP B). Both protozoa were detected in water treated by direct filtration (cysts: < 0.27 to 20.0 cysts L-1; oocysts: < 0.48 to 22.5 oocysts L-1) and flotation-filtration (cysts: < 0.27 to 5.0 cysts L-1; oocysts: < 0.48 to 17.5 oocysts L-1). Abstract Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected individuals residing in Long-Term Care Facilities (LTCFs), necessitating tailored strategies to manage outbreaks. This study examines the outcomes of the ILPI BH project, a collaborative effort between the Municipal Health Department and the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, designed to mitigate COVID-19 spread within LTCFs. Methods Prospective cohort of secondary data: 1,794 old residents in 99 long-term care facilities of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, were followed from May 2020 to January 2021. The study analyzed the prevention strategies, residents’ clinical data, and the characteristics of the long-term care facilities, correlating these variables with the number of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19. It checked absolute numbers and rates of incidence, hospitalization, mortality, and lethality. Results There have been 58 COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities. There were 399 cases among residents, 96 hospitalizations for COVID-19 and 48 deaths from COVID-19 (2.7 % of the cohort), with a case fatality rate of 12 %. After multivariate analysis, the intrinsic variables to residents associated with higher mortality risk were higher degree of frailty (OR=1.08; p = 0.004) and the fact of living in a long-term care facility with a considerable proportion of residents’ coverage by health plans (OR = 1.01; p = 0.028). Early geriatric follow-up showed an association with a reduction in the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19. Conclusion The correct classification of the degree of frailty of institutionalized older people seems to have been relevant for predicting mortality from COVID-19. The extensive assistance by private health plans, contrary to what is supposed, did not result in better health protection. Early geriatric follow-up was beneficial and may be an attractive strategy in the face of health emergencies that affect long-term care facilities to reduce hospital admissions. ABSTRACT Geothermal energy is a renewable source that can assist in the thermal conditioning of constructed environments. The objective of this study was to analyze the heat transfer in a Red Latosol (Oxisol), in heat storage process, using two linear heat exchangers. The treatments were arranged in a 3 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, corresponding to three temperature differentials between soil and water (5, 10 and 15 °C), two types of materials (PVC and copper) and three radial distances (10, 20 and 25 cm), with three replicates. Soil temperature variations were obtained continuously for a period of 12 hours using DS18B20 sensors. These variations were logarithmic as a function of heat transfer time and radial distance and linear as a function of the temperature differential between soil and water (θ). The temperature differential between soil and water was the main factor that influenced soil temperature variation, and the material employed was insignificant in this variation. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a transferência de calor em um Latossolo Vermelho (Oxisol), em processo de armazenamento de calor, utilizando dois trocadores de calor lineares. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 3 × 2 × 3, correspondendo a três diferenciais de temperatura entre solo e água (5, 10 e 15 °C), dois tipos de materiais (PVC e cobre) e três distâncias radiais (10, 20 e 25 cm), com três repetições. As variações de temperatura do solo foram obtidas continuamente por um período de 12 horas usando sensores DS18B20. Essas variações foram logarítmicas em função do tempo de transferência de calor e da distância radial, e lineares em função do diferencial de temperatura entre o solo e a água (θ). Resumen: Para evaluar la propuesta hospitalaria de la Posada Le Ange, se hizo oportuno estructurar, bajo una metodología cuali-cuantitativa, diferentes análisis. Abstract: In order to evaluate the hospitable proposal of the Le Ange Inn, it became opportune to structure, under a quali-quantitative methodology, different analyses. From a qualitative nature, we emphasize not only the use of bibliographic research that supports the relevance of the pet friendly segment for consumers, but also the open questionnaire sent to the marketing and reservations manager of the inn in order to collect information about the services and infrastructure of the place. From a quantitative point of view, in order to fulfill the hypothesis that the object of study stands out from its competitors, a survey was carried out of the evaluations that the businesses in Miguel - the city where the inn is located - and Petropolitan - a neighboring municipality - have on Google. From the results, it was observed that the inn under investigation has an evaluation above the average found, offering different hospitable services for the pet segment such as: adapted pools and parties, agility spaces, and pet shower. Resumo: Com o intuito de avaliar a proposta hospitaleira da Pousada Le Ange, tornou-se oportuno estruturar, sob uma metodologia quali-quantitativa, diferentes análises. Da natureza qualitativa, acentua-se não só a utilização de pesquisas bibliográficas que sustentam a relevância do segmento pet friendly para os consumidores, como também o questionário aberto enviado para a gerente de marketing e reservas da pousada, a fim de coletar informações quanto aos serviços e infraestrutura do local. Da natureza quantitativa, sob o intuito de consumar a hipótese de que o objeto de estudo se destaca diante de sua concorrência, foi realizado um levantamento das avaliações que os empreendimentos miguelenses - cidade em que a pousada está situada - e petropolitanos - município vizinho - possuem no Google. Abstract This study aimed to compare the mechanical properties of various occlusal plate materials by analyzing surface roughness, Knoop microhardness, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity. Fifty samples were prepared and classified as SC (self-curing acrylic resin), WB (heat-cured acrylic resin), ME (acrylic resin polymerized by microwave energy), P (resin print), and M (polymethylmethacrylate polymer block for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing). The data were analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s honestly significant difference test. Surface roughness was the same in all groups. The surface hardness of group M was statistically superior. The samples from groups P and M had higher flexural strength than other samples. The modulus of elasticity of group SC was statistically lower than that of other groups. The mechanical properties of the materials used to make the occlusal plates differed, and group M achieved the best results in all analyses. Resumo Este registro de pesquisa discute a construção do desenho para a realização de um survey sobre os trabalhadores da indústria automotiva do sul do Rio de Janeiro, refletindo sobre as condições de realização da investigação e a necessidade de redefinição da coleta de dados e do instrumento de pesquisa sob o impacto da covid-19, com reflexos na confecção da amostra e, principalmente, nas estratégias de divulgação da pesquisa e disseminação do questionário autoadministrado. ABSTRACT Objective: The study sought to determine the clinical features of hyperparathyroid-induced hypercalcemic crisis (HIHC) along with treatment options and outcomes. Subjects and methods: This is a retrospective analysis of our historical cohort of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Patients were divided in groups according to their calcium levels and clinical presentation. HIHC (group 1) was assumed when patients had high calcium levels and needed emergency hospitalization. Group 2 was composed of patients with calcium levels above 16 mg/dL or patients who needed hospitalization for classical PHPT symptoms. Group 3 was composed of clinically stable patients with calcium levels between 14 and 16 mg/dL, who were electively treated. Results: Twenty-nine patients had calcium levels above 14 mg/dL. HIHC group had seven patients, and initial clinical measures had good response in two patients, moderate response in one patient, and poor response in four patients. All poor responders underwent immediate surgery, and one of them died due to HIHC complications. Group 2 had nine patients, and all were successfully treated during hospitalization. Group 3 had 13 patients, and all had a successful elective surgery. Conclusion: HIHC is a life-threatening condition that requires fast clinical intervention. Surgery is the only definitive treatment and should be planned for all patients. Poor response to initial clinical measures should direct treatment toward surgery to avoid disease progression and clinical deterioration. ABSTRACT Increasing population and demand for animal-derived products has raised the need for improved efficiency in managing and controlling animal production. Given this context, the project aimed to develop a device that aids decision-making in animal production. A hardware system was designed for instant measurement of thermal well-being levels, light intensity, and air gas concentration. This hardware integrated DHT11 sensors, an LDR photoresistor, and an MQ-135 sensor. To validate the system, a 30-day experimental study was conducted in an industrial pig farming setting. The collected data was sent to the Thingspeak server using the HTTP protocol. Data management, filtering, and organization were optimized using developed treatment algorithms. The system presented information on air humidity, temperature, ammonia concentration, CO2 levels, luminosity, and enthalpy through interactive images on a dashboard. In the case of a risk situation, the system automatically notified users with an "ALERT" message, facilitating prompt and efficient management response, and minimizing losses. The sensor calibration process yielded a high coefficient of determination (r2 = 0.98). ABSTRACT Surface runoff monitoring is important for the sustainable management of global water resources. Obtaining a practical and inexpensive method for collecting data in the field can help to better understand surface runoff and its effects, necessary for the management of watersheds. This study sought to elaborate the calibration curves of the ultrasonic sensor due to temperature variability, verifying the inaccuracy of the distance between objects and the sensor, and determining the feasibility of using low-cost sensors in an in-loco experiment installed on Parshall flumes. The experiment was conducted on the Experimental Farm of the Federal University of Grande Dourados, Dourados, MS, Brazil. The data were collected by twelve HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensors , which were coupled to a data acquisition system composed of an expansion board connected to a Raspberry minicomputer. Sensor calibration using temperature data resulted in the error correction of ± 8.0 mm of distance reading. RESUMO O monitoramento do escoamento superficial é crucial na gestão sustentável dos recursos hídricos globais. Obter um método prático e econômico para coletar dados de campo pode ajudar a entender melhor o escoamento superficial e seus efeitos, necessários para a gestão das bacias hidrográficas. Este trabalho buscou elaborar calibração de um sensor ultrassônico devido à variabilidade da temperatura, verificando a imprecisão da distância dos objetos com o sensor, determinando a viabilidade do uso dos sensores de baixo custo em experimento “in loco”, instalados em calhas Parshall. O experimento foi realizado em área da Fazenda Experimental da Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados, Dourados/MS. Os dados foram coletados por doze sensores de distância ultrassônicos HC-SR04, que foram acoplados a um sistema de aquisição de dados composto por uma placa de expansão conectada a um minicomputador Raspberry.
