Abstract Worm infections pose a significant challenge to goat farming in the tropics. While individual variations in the animals' response to this disease are observed, understanding its genetic component is crucial for establishing effective herd production management, prioritizing the selection of goats with higher resistance to parasitism. This study aimed to assess goat response to worm infection under natural field conditions using data on eggs per gram of feces (EPG), body condition score (BCS), and conjunctival mucosa coloration (FAMACHA©). Cluster analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques were applied to 3,839 data points from 200 individuals in an experimental goat herd in Piauí, Brazil. The study considered the phenotypic expression of resistance, sensitivity, and resilience to worm infection as responses to parasitism. Three clustering methods, namely Ward, Average, and k-means, were employed and compared with fuzzy logic obtained through the CAPRIOVI web software. The analysis revealed statistically significant differences (P<0.05) between the groups of animals classified as resistant, resilient, and sensitive to parasitism. Pregnancy and peripartum were identified as stages of heightened sensitivity to parasitism (P<0.05). Among the clustering techniques, traditional statistical methods exhibited excellent performance, with an overall accuracy percentage exceeding 90.00%. In contrast, CAPRIOVI's fuzzy logic demonstrated lower overall accuracy (77.00%). The clustering methods showed similar efficiency, but differed in terms of the distribution of animals per group, with a tendency towards greater numbers in the resistant category. Fuzzy logic circumvented this limitation by enabling the formation of groups tailored to meet the producer's interests, adding consistency in terms of the animals' response to worm infection. Resumo A incidência de verminose é um dos principais obstáculos para a caprinocultura nos trópicos. A variação individual da resposta do animal à enfermidade existe, mas precisa ser determinado o seu componente genético e estabelecer o manejo zootécnico dos rebanhos, priorizando a seleção de animais mais resistente ao parasitismo. Objetivou-se nesse estudo avaliar a resposta de cabras à incidência de verminose sob condições de infecção natural a campo, com informações de ovos por grama de fezes (OPG), escore da condição corporal (ECC) e grau de coloração da mucosa conjuntiva (FAMACHA©), recorrendo a utilização de análise de agrupamento e a aplicação de inteligência artificial (IA). Foram utilizadas 3.839 informações de 200 indivíduos em um rebanho experimental de caprinos no Piauí. Considerou-se como resposta ao parasitismo a expressão fenotípica de resistência, sensibilidade e resiliência a verminose, submetidos a três métodos de agrupamento: Ward, Average e K-means, comparado com a lógica Fuzzy, obtidos com o software web CAPRIOVI. Os resultados demonstraram que os grupos de animais resistente, resiliente e sensível ao parasitismo foram estatisticamente distintos (P<0,05). As cabras durante a gestação e o periparto foram identificadas como fases de maior sensibilidade ao parasitismo (P<0,05). O CAPRIOVI aplica a lógica Fuzzy e apresentou o menor percentual de acerto global (77,00%), enquanto os métodos estatísticos tradicionais se destacaram com percentual de acerto global superior a 90,00%, demonstrando excelência estatística com esse fim. Os métodos de agrupamentos apresentaram semelhança na eficiência, mas diferiram quanto à distribuição de animais por agrupamento, com tendência de maior quantidade na categoria resistente. ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to simulate the genetic gains expected comparing random mating strategies and mate selection by optimum contribution with different penalty levels in the inbreeding rate of Santa Inês sheep. The optimum contribution theory was thus applied to optimize genetic gain in the long term in twelve selection groups by selectively mating 500 females with the respective males, increasingly penalizing the increase in inbreeding in the objective function. Genetic algorithms were used to find the optimum contribution. Optimization was achieved via EVA software. Selection candidates had their contribution defined into four treatments, using different values to weigh the genetic merit and penalize increases in inbreeding. This made it possible to measure the degree of control over those parameters that can be obtained with this methodology. This selection offers different levels of genetic gain, which are achievable from restrictions on the coancestry. The number of males selected and their distribution into selection groups varied according to the penalty attributed to inbreeding in the objective function. Mate selection using optimum contribution should be adopted when aiming to limit the increase in inbreeding. Increasing the exchange of genetic material between groups is recommended to elevate genetic gain and maintain control over inbreeding.

ABSTRACT The present study was carried out to evaluate the phenotypic diversity between fighting cocks; roosters of the naturalized ecotypes Graúna Dourada, Brejeira, Teresina, and Nordestina; roosters of the Sertaneja genetic (synthetic) group; and family-farmed roosters via descriptive and multivariate analyses. The qualitative traits evaluated by descriptive analysis indicated a prevalence of single comb in the Graúna Dourada, Teresina, Nordestina, and Sertaneja ecotypes, whereas the Brejeira ecotype, fighting cocks, and family-farmed roosters have a pea-type comb, which can be viewed as a sign of introgression of the fighting cock in flocks of the region. Dark plumage prevailed across the groups. The quantitative traits subjected to multivariate analysis by clustering criteria placed the four ecotypes and the synthetic type in a single group, the family-farmed animals were allocated to another group, and, lastly, the fighting cocks were placed in a third group. These results were similar to those generated by principal component analysis, which indicated body length, wingspan, and body weight as the traits of greatest variability to discriminate the different groups. It is important to stress the risk of genetic erosion to which naturalized chicken populations are exposed as a consequence of the introgression of fighting cocks in naturalized-chicken rearing facilities.

RESUMO. Objetivou-se caracterizar o perfil da pecuária de corte no Estado do Piauí para inferência acerca do registro zootécnico dos animais para inserção em sistema de rastreabilidade. Os dados foram coletados por meio da aplicação de questionário semiestruturado de múltipla escolha a 400 pecuaristas em todas as microrregiões do estado, nos meses de maio e novembro de 2012. As perguntas continham os seguintes direcionadores: perfil da propriedade e dos produtores, condições zootécnicas dos rebanhos e condições técnicas no tocante ao registro zootécnico. O cenário da pecuária bovina é caracterizado predominantemente pela atividade familiar, com a maioria dos produtores apresentando idade superior a 50 anos, que se encontram sem grandes perspectivas de inovação tecnológica, inseridos num ambiente onde a renovação de recursos humanos enfrenta dificuldades. A análise dos dados constatou a prevalência de rebanhos com até 50 bovinos explorados em propriedades com até 50 ha, sem identificação individual dos animais. Esses resultados, aliados ao fato do pecuarista desconhecer tecnicamente a importância do registro zootécnico e da rastreabilidade, indicam a baixa capacidade da atividade ser inserida em um ambiente informatizado.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to characterize the beef cattle farming profile in the State of Piauí for inference about the zootechnical record of animals for insertion into a traceability system. Data were collected through a semi-structured multiple choice questionnaire applied to 400 cattle breeders in all microregions of the state, in May and November 2012. The questions contained the following indicators: profile of the property and the breeder, herd conditions and technical conditions on herd registration. The cattle-raising scenario is predominantly characterized by family activity, with the majority of producers over 50 years of age, who are without great prospects for technological innovation, inserted in an environment where human resource renewal faces difficulties. Data analysis verified the prevalence of herds with up to 50 cattle farmed on properties with up to 50 ha, without individual identification of the animals. These results, coupled with the fact that the cattle breeders are technically unaware of the importance of the zootechnical record and the traceability, indicate the low probability of the activity to be inserted in a computerized environment.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar componentes de variância e parâmetros genéticos para marmoreio na área de olho de lombo (MOL) e escore de condição corporal (ECC) usando Inferência Bayesiana por meio dos modelos animais linear misto e de limiar. Os dados foram obtidos em rebanhos de ovinos da raça Santa Inês criados no Meio-Norte do Brasil. As análises, considerando os métodos de Monte Carlo, foram realizadas com cadeias de Markov a partir de 500000 ciclos. Considerou-se burn-in inicial de 200000 ciclos com valores tomados a cada 250 ciclos, obtendo-se 1200 amostras. Os desvios do erro de Monte Carlo foram baixos para as herdabilidades médias em todas as cadeias, tanto pelo modelo linear quanto de limiar. As variâncias aditivas, estimadas pelo modelo de limiar, foram maiores que aquelas obtidas pelo modelo linear. O marmoreio na área de olho de lombo e o escore da condição corporal podem ser usados como critérios de seleção para obter progresso genético em ovinos da raça Santa Inês.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to estimate the variance components and genetic parameters for marbling in the ribeye area (MRA) and body condition score (BCS) using Bayesian inference via mixed linear and threshold animal models. Data were obtained from Santa Ines breed sheep reared in the Brazilian Mid-North region. Analyses considering the Monte Carlo methods were performed with Markov chains from 500000 cycles onward. A 200000-cycle initial burn-in was considered with values taken at every 250 cycles, in a total of 1200 samples. The Monte Carlo Error deviations were low for the means heritability in all chains by both linear and threshold models. Additive variances estimated by threshold model were higher than those estimated by the linear model. Marble meat from the ribeye area and body condition score can be used as selection criteria to obtain genetic progress in Santa Inês sheep.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a influência de efeitos ambientais sobre medidas corporais, peso e características de qualidade de carcaça, com estrutura de mensurações repetidas no tempo, em ovinos de diferentes grupos genéticos. Foram realizadas coletas do nascimento aos 180 dias de idade, durante os anos de 2012 e 2013, em 92 cordeiros de 3 grupos genéticos, sendo 29 da raça Santa Inês, 43 mestiços Dorper x Santa Inês e 20 mestiços Dorper x Morada Nova, pertencentes a dois rebanhos. Foram mensuradas área e profundidade de olho de lombo, espessura de gordura subcutânea, altura da cernelha, comprimento corporal, profundidade torácica e peso corporal. O modelo estatístico considerou os efeitos de período de coleta, tipo de nascimento, sexo, rebanho, grupo genético, idade do animal no momento da mensuração como covariável, em efeitos linear e quadrático, e as interações entre os diferentes efeitos. Foram testadas diferentes estruturas para modelar a matriz de (co) variância residual. A estrutura que melhor se ajustou aos dados foi a Simetria Composta. A interação entre grupo genético e idade como efeito linear e quadrático foi significativamente importante para modelar as características estudadas. Os efeitos ambientais de propriedade, tipo de nascimento, grupo genético e período da mensuração influenciaram as características de carcaça, medidas corporais e peso. O grupo genético oriundo do cruzamento Dorper x Morada Nova apresentou menor tamanho corporal e melhores características de carcaça.

SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of environmental effects on body measurements, weight and carcass quality traits with structure of repeated measurements over time in sheep from different genetic groups. Collections were carried out from lamb in until 180 days of age, during the years 2012 and 2013, in 92 lambs from three genetic groups – 29from Santa Inês breed, 43 crossbred Dorper x Santa Inês, and 20 crossbred Dorper x Morada Nova – belonging to two flocks. Loin eye area, loin depth, subcutaneous fat thickness, height at withers, body length, thoracic depth, and body weight were measured. The effects of collection period, type of birth, sex, flock, genetic group, age of the animal at the time of measurement as a covariate in linear and quadratic effects, and interactions between the different effects were considered in the statistical model. Different structures were tested for modeling the residual (co) variance matrix. The structure that best fit the data was the Composed Symmetry. The interaction between genetic group and age as linear and quadratic effect was significantly important for modeling the traits studied. The environmental effects of the flock, type of birth, genetic group, and collection period influenced carcass traits, body measurements and weight. The genetic group originated from the Dorper x Morada Nova cross showed lower body size and better carcass traits.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar estratégias de seleção simulada pela contribuição genética ótima quanto ao ganho genético, com restrição sobre a coancestria, para a característica peso aos 84 dias idade, em ovinos Santa Inês. As análises foram definidas conforme um algoritmo de evolução diferencial, que otimizou uma função-objetivo composta pelo mérito genético e a coancestria média dos animais candidatos à reprodução. A estratégia definida como ótima indicou a utilização de 19 carneiros, o que resultaria em ganho médio esperado de 1,1259 unidades de desvio-padrão, e coancestria igual a 0,0249 (estratégia 5). Em comparação à seleção com base apenas no valor genético, a estratégia ótima reduziu a coancestria em 12%, e o ganho genético, em apenas 3%. A seleção de ovinos pela contribuição genética ótima oferece diferentes níveis de ganho genético, que são atingíveis a partir de restrições sobre a coancestria. Assim, é possível minimizar a coancestria, ou restringi-la em um valor pré-definido, e maximizar o ganho genético simultaneamente com o uso da contribuição genética ótima.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate strategies of simulated selection by optimum contribution for the genetic gain, with restriction on coancestry, for the weight trait of 84-day old Santa Ines sheep. The analyses were performed using a differential evolution algorithm, which optimized an objective function accounting for average coancestry of the candidate animals for reproduction and genetic merit. The optimal selection strategy indicated the use of 19 rams, which would result in an expected average gain of 1.1259 units of standard deviation, and coancestry equal to 0.0249 (strategy 5). Compared to the selection based only on breeding values, the optimum strategy reduced the coancestry by 12%, and the genetic gain by only 3%. The selection of sheep by the optimum contribution offers different levels of genetic gain, which are achievable from restrictions on the coancestry. Therefore, it is possible to minimize the coancestry, or restrict it to a predefined value, and maximize the genetic gain while using the optimum contribution.

Objetivou-se descrever o quantitativo, distribuição e estrutura do rebanho de ovino da raça Santa Inês no estado do Piauí. Foram analisados dados de registros genealógicos da raça Santa Inês, mantidos pela Associação Brasileira de Criadores de Ovinos (ARCO), referentes ao período de 1992 a 2012. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas descritivas de modo a conhecer como o rebanho Santa Inês está estruturado. Foi realizada a classificação do rebanho quanto a sua estrutura organizacional, determinada com base na origem e uso dos reprodutores, utilizando-se o programa ENDOG. v.4.8. O registro dos animais da raça Santa Inês, no Piauí, teve inicio em 1990, e a maior representatividade foi verificada no período de 1993 a 2001. Quanto à estrutura dos rebanhos, 56,8% foram classificados como rebanhos multiplicadores (estrato intermediário da pirâmide) e 43,2% como rebanhos comerciais (base da pirâmide), sendo que não se observou nenhum rebanho núcleo e nem isolado. A falta de rebanhos núcleo da raça no Estado pode ser uma das causas da redução do número de animais registrados nos últimos anos no Piauí.

This study aimed to describe the quantity, distribution and structure of the Santa Inês sheep flock in the Piauí state. We analyzed data of genealogical records of Santa Inês variety, maintained by the Brazilian Association of Breeders Sheep (ARCO), from 1992 to 2012. Descriptive statistical analyzes were performed in order to know how the Santa Inês herd is structured. We classified the herd according to its organizational structure, determined according to the origin and the use of the breeders, using the program ENDOG.v.4.8. The registration of animals of Santa Ines variety, in Piauí, started in 1990, and highest representation was verified in the period from 1993 to 2001. As for the structure of the herds, 56.8% were classified as multiplying livestocks (intermediate stratum of the pyramid) and 43.2% as commercial herds (base of the pyramid), and there was neither nucleus nor isolated herds. The lack of nucleus herds of Santa Inês variety in the state may be one of the causes of the reduction in the number of animals recorded in recent years in Piauí.

O objetivo com esta pesquisa foi estudar efeitos ambientais sobre a prolificidade e a taxa de desmame em ovinos Santa Inês, por meio de modelos lineares generalizados. Foram utilizados dados do rebanho experimental de ovinos da raça Santa Inês, da Universidade Federal do Piauí, Campus Universitário Professora Cinobelina Elvas, em Bom Jesus-PI, no período de 2008 a 2010. Os efeitos ambientais estudados foram: ano de cobertura, Período de cobertura, Período de nascimento, tipo de nascimento, sexo da cria, idade da mãe ao parto, peso da mãe ao parto e peso ao nascer como covariável. Para análise estatística foi utilizado o procedimento GENMOD contido no programa SAS. Os valores médios de prolificidade e taxa de desmame foram respectivamente 1,36 e 68,18%. O efeito do peso da mãe ao parto foi significativo sobre a prolificidade. Observou-se efeito significativo de Período de nascimento sobre a taxa de desmame. As correlações entre características produtivas e reprodutivas variaram de negativas a positivas de baixa magnitude. Os efeitos de peso da mãe ao parto e peso ao nascer mostraram-se importantes fontes de variação para prolificidade e taxa de desmame, o que reflete a necessidade de considerar estes efeitos em modelos de avaliação genética e fenotípica.

In this research we aimed to study environmental effects about litter size and weaning rate in Santa Ines sheep by means of generalized linear models. We used the data from experimental sheep herd of Santa Ines, of the Federal University of Piaui, Campus Professora Cinobelina Elvas, in Bom Jesus-PI, during 2008-2010. The environmental effects studied were: mating year, mating station, birth season, birth type, offspring sex, ewe age at birth, ewe weight at birth and birth weight as covariate. For statistical analysis we used the GENMOD procedure contained in SAS. Mean values for litter size and weaning rates were 1.36 and 68.18% respectively. The effect of ewe weight was significant about the litter size. There was no significant effect of birth season on the weaning rate. Correlations between productive and reproductive traits ranged from negative to positive low magnitude. The effects of ewe weight at birth and birth weight were important sources of variation for litter size and weaning rates, which reflects the need to consider these effects in models of genetic and phenotypic evaluation.

A pesquisa foi desenvolvida para avaliar o comportamento de frangos de corte, criados em condições de estresse térmico, no período de 1 a 21 dias de idade, alimentados com dietas contendo diferentes níveis de selênio (0,5; 1,1; 1,7; 2,3; 2,9 e 3,5ppm de Se.Kg-1de ração). As dietas experimentais foram isonutritivas, exceto para o selênio. Foram utilizados sessenta pintos da linhagem Ross, mistos, distribuídas em delineamento em blocos casualizados, com seis tratamentos e cinco repetições com duas aves por parcela. O ambiente interno dos galpões foi avaliado com base no Índice de Temperatura de Globo Negro e Umidade (ITGU), no Índice de Temperatura e Umidade (ITU) e Temperatura Efetiva (TE). As variáveis comportamentais estudadas foram: comer, beber, abrir bico, asa aberta, parada, deitar, andar, ciscando, esticando membros, bando de poeira, limpar penas, brigar e prostrar. Os níveis de selênio na dieta interferiram na frequência de visita dos frangos ao comedouro, nos tratamentos experimentais com 1,7 e 2,3mg de Se.Kg-1, apresentando menores valores. Porem, as frequências dos frangos, com os comportamentos: bebendo, com asa aberta, parado, andando, realizando limpeza das asas, brigando e prostrado, não foram influenciadas pelos níveis de selênio das dietas. Assim, pode-se inferir a partir dos resultados comportamentais contraditórios obtidos neste estudo, que vários fatores estão envolvidos no comportamento das aves, com destaque para as variáveis ambientais e nutricionais.

A research was conducted to evaluate the performance of broilers reared in conditions of heat stress, during 1-21 days of age, fed with diets containing different levels of selenium ( 0,5; 1,1; 1,7; 2,3; 2,9 and 3,5ppm of Se.Kg -1 of diet). The experimental diets were isonutritives except for selenium. Sixty chicken strains Ross, mixed, distributed in a randomized block design with six treatments and five replications with two birds per pen were used. The internal environment of the sheds was evaluated based on the Temperature Index Black Globe Humidity (BGT), the Temperature and Humidity Index (THI) and Effective Temperature (ET). The behavioral variables were: eating, drinking , open beak, wing open, stop, lie down, walk, scratching, stretching limbs, bunch of dust, clean feathers, fighting and prostrate. Levels of selenium in the diet interfered in the frequency of visits to the feeder of chickens, with the experimental treatments of 1.7 and 2.3mg Se.Kg -1, presenting lower values. However, the frequency of chickens with behaviors: drinking, with open wings standing, walking, carrying out cleaning of wings, fighting prostrate and were not influenced by the levels of selenium diets. Thus, it can be inferred from the contradictory behavioral results obtained in this study, several factors are involved in the behavior of birds, with emphasis on the environmental and nutritional variables.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho determinar o modelo mais adequado, bem como estimar os parâmetros genéticos do peso ao nascimento até os 196 dias de idade de caprinos da raça Anglo-nubiana. Os parâmetros genéticos foram estimados pelo método da máxima verossimilhança restrita (REML), utilizando o programa WOMBAT. Doze diferentes modelos animais foram ajustados por meio da inclusão ou exclusão do efeito genético materno, ambiente permanente materno, ambiente temporário materno e a covariância genética entre os efeitos direto e materno. Com base no critério de informação Bayesiano de Schwarz (BIC), o modelo II, que incluiu os efeitos genético direto e de ambiente temporário da mãe, foi o mais apropriado para todas as características. O efeito de ambiente temporário materno foi a mais importante fonte de variação. Este efeito contribuiu com 33% a 44% da variação fenotípica de acordo com o peso analisado. Estes resultados indicam que a seleção para efeitos direto e/ou materno em caprinos da raça Anglo-nubiana podem gerar progresso genético em características de crescimento.

The aim of the study were to determine the most appropriate model, and to estimate genetic parameters of birth weight to the 196 day-old Anglo-Nubian breed goat. Genetic parameters were estimated by REML procedure using WOMBAT program. Twelve different animal models were fitted by including or excluding maternal genetic effect, maternal permanent environmental effect, maternal temporary environmental effect and covariance between direct-maternal genetic effects. On the basis of Bayesian information criterion results, model II, which included direct genetic and maternal temporary environmental effects, was determined to be the most appropriate model for both traits. The maternal temporary environmental effect was the most important source of variation for both traits. This effect contributed about 33% at 44% to the phenotypic variance for weight analized. These results indicate that selecting for improved maternal and/or direct effects in Anglo-nubian goats would generate genetic progress in growth traits.

Objetivou-se, com esse trabalho, estudar a caracterização morfométrica de ovinos da raça Santa Inês para auxílio à conservação genética desta raça em diferentes microrregiões do Estado do Piauí, de modo a contribuir com a conservação da raça. Para isso, foram coletadas medidas morfométricas em ovinos oriundos de diferentes microrregiões do Estado do Piauí. As características de medidas corporais coletadas foram a altura de cernelha, a altura de garupa, a circunferência torácica, o comprimento corporal e o comprimento de orelha. Foram avaliadas as médias das medidas por microrregião e através da análise de componentes principais, com auxílio do PROC PRINCOMP do SAS, foi possível agrupar as populações com base em medidas de similaridade. Os grupos foram formados através da análise de agrupamento pelo método Ward. A partir das análises foi encontrada diversidade fenotípica nos ovinos Santa Inês criados no Estado do Piauí, sendo formada por um grupo de animais maiores, localizados nas microrregiões de Floriano, Médio Parnaíba Piauiense, Campo Maior e Teresina; um grupo de animais de tamanho intermediário, porém com comprimento corpora e circunferência torácica maiores e orelhas pequenas, localizado na microrregião de São Raimundo Nonato, outro grupo com tamanho intermediário e orelhas grandes e o último grupo composto por animais menores, localizados nas microrregiões do Litoral Piauiense e Valença. As medidas que mais contribuíram para a análise de componente principal foram as medidas de altura de garupa, altura de cernelha e comprimento corporal.

The objective of this work was to study the morphometric characterization of Santa Inês sheep to aid the conservation genetics of this breed in different micro-regions of the State of Piauí. For this, morphometric measurements have been collected in sheep from different micro-regions of the state of Piauí. The body measurements, collected were withers height, hip height, chest circumference, body length and ear length. The averages of the measures obtained in each micro-region were evaluated and by the use of the principal component analysis, helped by the SAS PROC PRINCOMP, it was possible to group populations based on similarity measures. The groups were formed relying on a cluster analysis by Ward method. Considering the analyzes, phenotypic diversity was found in Santa Ines sheep reared in the state of Piaui; being formed by a group of larger animals, located in the region of Floriano, Médio Parnaíba Piauiense, Teresina and Campo Maior; another group of animals of intermediate size, but with greater body length and girth circumference and small ears, located in the microregion of São Raimundo Nonato, another group with intermediate size and big ears and the last group of smaller animals located in the region of the Litoral Piauiense and Valença. The measures that contributed mostly for the principal component analysis were measures of hip height, withers height and body length

Objetivou-se estudar efeitos ambientais e genéticos sobre cabras mestiças, exploradas para a produção leiteira. Foram estimados componentes de covariância e parâmetros genéticos das características: idade ao primeiro parto; intervalo de partos e produção de leite em análise uni e multicaracterística, mediante a estatística Bayesiana sob modelo animal. As análises genéticas foram realizadas com cadeias de 1.000.000 de ciclos. Considerou-se o burn-in dos 100.000 valores iniciais, tomados a cada 300 ciclos, para se obter a distribuição a posteriori com 3.000 amostras. As médias obtidas para idade ao primeiro parto, intervalo de partos e produção de leite foram 581,68 ± 79,44; 322,89 ± 132,02 dias e 226,99 ± 89,72kg de leite, respectivamente. Todos os efeitos incluídos no modelo foram significativos, exceto o tipo de nascimento para o intervalo de partos e produção de leite. As herdabilidades, em análise unicaracterística, foram 0,14; 0,05 e 0,10 para idade ao primeiro parto, intervalo de partos e produção de leite, respectivamente. Na mesma ordem, em análise multicaracterística, as herdabilidades foram de 0,16; 0,06 e 0,11. As estimativas de repetibilidade, para as características intervalo de partos e produção de leite, foram 0,10 e 0,20 respectivamente. As características estudadas mostraram-se fortemente influenciadas pelo ambiente. Os valores da repetibilidade indicam a necessidade de se tomar mais medidas antes da decisão de manter ou descartar o animal. As análises multicaracterísticas levaram a estimativas ligeiramente maiores de herdabilidade.

This study aimed to evaluate the use of mineral and mineral protein supplement in finishing phase Nellore, grazing Brachiaria brizantha during the rainy season, and its implications for forage intake, animal performance and nutrient digestibility. The fieldwork was located in an area of 26 ha, divided into four paddocks of approximately 6.5 hectares (ha), formed with Brachiaria brizantha Marandu. We used 18 Nellore with 28 months live weight of 400.5 ± 7.5kg and castrated in two treatments: mineral supplementation until the termination, and mineral supplementation of low protein intake to termination. There was no effect on the consumption of pasture, neutral detergent fiber, crude protein, ether extract, non-fiber carbohydrates, ash and total digestible nutrients. The animal performance and feed conversion were not affected by supplementation. There was no effect on the coefficient of digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract and neutral detergent fiber. There was an effect of protein salt supplementation on the digestibility of non-fiber carbohydrates. In the rainy season the utilization of mineral salt allows the use of animals in pastures.

Objetivou-se avaliar a influência de alguns efeitos não genéticos sobre características da carcaça de caprinos, medidas por ultrassom. Além disso, estimar correlações simples entre características de carcaça mapeadas com uso de ultrassonografia, com escore da condição corporal e com os parâmetros da curva de crescimento ajustados a pesos de caprinos criados na microrregião de Teresina, PI. Os modelos Gompertz, Logístico, Von Bertalanffy, Brody e Richards foram ajustados para descrição da curva. No processo de pesquisa, foram atribuídas notas subjetivas de escore da condição corporal de 1 a 5 pontos, e mensuradas área de olho de lombo, profundidade de olho de lombo e espessura da gordura esternal, por meio de imagem ultrassonográficas. No modelo sistematizado, foram considerados os efeitos ambientais de mês da mensuração, tipo de nascimento, sexo, rebanho e raça, sem relegar as diferentes matrizes de covariância utilizadas. Estimou-se correlações de Pearson entre as medidas de características da carcaça mensuradas com ultrassom, o escore da condição corporal e os parâmetros da curva de crescimento ajustada. Constatou-se, por fim, que o modelo de Gompertz foi o de melhor ajuste na descrição da curva de crescimento. Os efeitos fixos de raça, rebanho, sexo, tipo de nascimento e mês de mensuração, nessa ordem de influência, se apresentaram como responsáveis por grande variação nas medidas das características de carcaça. Os parâmetros da curva ajustada de Gompertz e as características de carcaça apresentaram baixa correlação. O Escore da condição corporal não se mostrou como um bom indicador para as medidas das características de carcaça.

This work aimed to evaluate the influence of some non-genetic effects on goat's carcass traits measured by ultrasound, as well as estimate simple correlations between carcass traits obtained with the use of ultrasound, with body condition score and growth curve parameters fitted to the weight of goats in the micro-region of Teresina-PI. Gompertz, Logistic, Von Bertalanffy, Brody and Richards models were fitted for curve description. Were assigned grades subjective 1 to 5 points of body condition score and eye muscle area, eye muscle depth, and breast bone fat thickness were measured by ultrasound images. Environmental effects of month of measurement, type of birth, sex, herd and breed were considered, as well as different used matrices of (co) variance. Pearson's correlations among measures of carcass traits measured by ultrasound, body condition score, and the fitted growth curve parameters were estimated. The Gompertz model was the best fit in growth curve description. The fixed effects of breed, herd, sex, type of birth, and month measurement, in this order of influence, presented themselves as responsible for a large variation in measures carcass traits. The Gompertz fitted curve parameters and carcass traits present low correlation. The body condition score did not prove to be a good a good indicator for measures carcass traits.
