ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives After a few years of exposure to different strains of COVID-19, there is a large percentage of infected individuals worldwide, most of whom are of working age. Taking into account that in a substantial fraction of these there were prolonged symptoms and with some capacity to alter work capacity, a review was initiated in order to summarize the most pertinent information published on this subject. Methodology This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in April 2023, in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content This syndrome is a set of multiorgan symptoms/sequelae that affects previously infected individuals, sometimes lasting several months. It is a chronic complication, due to a persistent hyperinflammatory state (although the pathophysiology is not clearly known) and even after the COVID test is negative. It may be justified by inflammatory, hypoxic, microvascular and neurodegenerative changes; by direct damage caused by the virus itself and/or by secondary effects of therapy and co-existing morbidities. The emotional part may be associated with the fear of infecting family members, the economic problems associated with the costs of medical care (in countries with more privatized healthcare systems) and/or the stigma of the infection itself. The diagnosis is clinical and appears both in individuals who have been hospitalized and who have not. It can involve morbidity, overload on the health system and financial resources. It is also called Long COVID Syndrome, a term that actually emerged on social media. Discussion and Conclusions Given the temporality, the articles published on the topic are reasonably recent, and there is no previous bibliography on this subject to discuss the data obtained; although some symptoms may also be due to other more prevalent and/or old infections, possibly due to a similar pathophysiological mechanism. All evolutions are possible: from asymptomatic individuals during and after the infection to others with very debilitating symptoms that limit their ability to work. It is necessary for the occupational health team to evaluate each case, using the aptitude classification to help adapt tasks and obtain greater performance, job satisfaction and profit.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos Após alguns anos de exposição às diversas estirpes de COVID-19, existe uma grande percentagem de indivíduos infetados mundialmente, grande parte dos quais em idade ativa. Tendo em conta que numa fração substancial destes existiram sintomas prolongados e com alguma influência para alterar a capacidade de trabalho, iniciou-se uma revisão, no sentido de resumir o que mais pertinente se publicou sobre este assunto. Conteúdo Esta síndroma é um conjunto de semiologia multiorgânica que atinge indivíduos previamente infetados, por vezes com duração de vários meses. Trata-se de uma complicação crónica, devido a um estado hiperinflamatório persistente (ainda que a patofisiologia não seja conhecida com clareza) e mesmo após o teste de COVID negativar. Poderá ser justificada através de alterações inflamatórias, hipóxicas, microvasculares e neurodegenerativas; bem como devido aos danos diretos causados pelo vírus em si e/ou pelos efeitos secundários da terapêutica e morbilidades coexistentes. A parte emocional poderá ser associada ao medo de infetar familiares, pelos problemas económicos associados aos custos dos cuidados médicos (em países com sistemas de saúde mais privatizados) e/ou pelo estigma da infeção em si. O diagnóstico é clínico e tanto aparece em indivíduos que foram hospitalizados, como não. Pode implicar morbilidade, sobrecarga do sistema de saúde e de recursos financeiros. Também se designa por Síndroma do COVID longo, termo que, na realidade, surgiu nas redes sociais. Discussão e Conclusões Dada a temporalidade, os artigos publicados sobre o tema são razoavelmente recentes, não existindo bibliografia anterior sobre este assunto, para discutir os dados obtidos; ainda que alguns sintomas equivalentes também possam ser consequentes a outras infeções, mais prevalentes e/ou antigas, eventualmente por um mecanismo fisiopatológico parecido. Todas as evoluções são possíveis, desde indivíduos assintomáticos durante e após a infeção, como outros com sintomas muito debilitantes e limitadores da sua capacidade laboral. É necessário que a equipa de saúde ocupacional avalie cada caso, usando a classificação de aptidão para ajudar na adequação das tarefas e obtenção de maior desempenho, satisfação laboral e lucro.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives Most professionals working in Occupational Health and Safety have some notions regarding the distribution of Occupational Accidents versus gender, however, not all have had the opportunity to consult reasonably up-to-date data on this subject. The aim of this review was to clearly summarize not only some articles that addressed this subject, but also to have access to national and European statistical data. Methodology This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in May 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. The websites of Pordata and the National Institute of Statistics were also consulted. Content There are anatomical and physiological differences between genders, namely body size and shape, musculature and metabolism, which can modulate certain occupational issues, such as choosing and staying in certain jobs. Incidentally, in the same section of work, sometimes both genders take on different tasks and/or perform them in different ways. 98.8% of accidents in absolute numbers occur in males, as this is obviously much more prevalent in the industrial and construction sectors, areas where there is a higher accident rate. Discussion and Conclusions Accidents at work are more frequent and serious among men, not only due to the type of tasks that exist in positions predominantly assumed by this gender, but also due to the personality and influence of society and culture, which generally encourages more in this context to need to defy danger and/or be more acceptable not following the rules. Adherence to the proposed Safety measures varies with the Perception of Risk and the influence of the work team, management and society. As more of this global interference is taken into account, the greater the ability of the Occupational Health and Safety team to mitigate the incidence and severity of Occupational Accidents and thus obtain a safer workplace, and these measures must be different between the male and female sexes.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos A generalidade dos profissionais a exercer na Saúde e Segurança Ocupacionais tem algumas noções relativas à distribuição dos Acidentes Laborais versus sexo, contudo, nem todos terão tido oportunidade de consultar dados razoavelmente atualizados sobre esse assunto. Pretendeu-se com esta revisão resumir de forma clara, não só alguns artigos que abordassem este assunto, como também ter acesso a dados estatísticos nacionais e europeus nesta área. Metodologia Trata-se de uma Revisão Bibliográfica, iniciada através de uma pesquisa realizada em maio de 2023 nas bases de dados “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina e RCAAP”. Foram também consultados os sites da Pordata e do Instituto Nacional de Estatística. Conteúdo Existem diferenças anátomo-fisiológicas entre os géneros, nomeadamente tamanho e formato corporal, musculatura e metabolização, que podem modular determinadas questões ocupacionais, como a escolha e permanência em alguns postos laborais. Aliás, na mesma secção de trabalho, por vezes os dois géneros assumem tarefas diferentes e/ou executam-nas de formas diversas. Em números absolutos, 98,8% dos acidentes ocorrem no sexo masculino, por este ser obviamente muito mais prevalente nos setores industrial e da construção, áreas essas onde existe uma maior sinistralidade. Discussão e Conclusões Os acidentes de trabalho são mais frequentes e graves no sexo masculino, não só devido ao tipo de tarefas que existem nos postos assumidos predominantemente por este género, mas também devido à personalidade e influência da sociedade e cultura que, geralmente, incentiva mais neste contexto a necessidade de desafiar o perigo e/ou ser mais aceitável não cumprir as regras. A adesão às medidas de Segurança propostas varia com a Perceção de Risco e a influência da equipa de trabalho, chefia e sociedade. Quanto mais esta globalidade de interferências for levada em conta, maior a capacidade da equipa de Saúde e Segurança Ocupacionais para atenuar a incidência e gravidade dos Acidentes Laborais e assim se obter um local de trabalho mais seguro, sendo que essas medidas deverão ser distintas entre os sexos masculino e feminino.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives Even if the term Resilience is reasonably mentioned, not all will have reflected in its concept and the eventual interaction with several parameters involved in Occupational Health. This review intends to summarize very succinctly what is published on this topic, in order to deliverie professionals in Occupational Health and Safety teams with knowledge and strategies that will lead them to perform better. Content The concept of Resilience can be described as a dynamic process that aims at positive adaptation, in the face of adverse and stressful experiences, which could lead to negative consequences; in other words, it is the emotional flexibility to solve problems and improve adaptation in the face of adversity. It can also be seen as the human capacity to face, overcome and be strengthened by adverse events or the avoidance of negative results due to the resolution of situations far beyond what would be expected. Or as the ability to adapt to unforeseen situations, enhancing the acceptance of undesirable and stressful conditions, which could explain why some individuals deal better with stress. It can be individual or collective. In the latter situation, it can also be defined as the ability of a group, to overcome adversity and transform itself into something more adapted to the circumstances. The institution's Resilience can be defined as the organization's intrinsic ability to adjust to events/changes/disruptions and/or opportunities. The system will show Resilience if it allows individuals to deal with complex situations. Discussion and Conclusions Although Resilience is based on innate characteristics, it can be partially trained/acquired, individually and/or institutionally. The more intense and well-structured this is, the better the employee's and the company's ability to overcome adversity. If the Occupational Health and Safety team has these notions in mind and knows how to develop them, their performance will be enhanced. It would be pertinent to understand the average level of Resilience among Portuguese workers overall and according to specific characteristics (gender, age, profession, employment relationship, qualifications and marital status, for example) and what is the best way to potenciate it.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos Ainda que o termo Resiliência seja razoavelmente mencionado, nem todos terão refletido no seu conceito e eventual interação com diversos parâmetros envolvidos da Saúde Ocupacional. Esta revisão pretende resumir de forma muita sucinta o que está publicado sobre este tema, de modo a capacitar os profissionais das equipas de Saúde e Segurança Laborais com conhecimentos e estratégias que os levarão a ter melhor desempenho. Conteúdo O conceito de Resiliência poderá ser descrito como um processo dinâmico que se dirige à adaptação positiva, face a experiências adversas e stressantes, que poderão levar a consequências negativas; ou seja, é a flexibilidade emocional para resolver problemas e melhorar a adaptação perante a adversidade. Também poderá ser visto como a capacidade humana para enfrentar, vencer e ficar fortalecido com eventos adversos ou ser a evicção de resultados negativos em virtude da resolução de situações muito para além do que seria expetável. Ou então como a capacidade de adaptação a situações imprevistas, potenciando a aceitação de condições indesejáveis e stressantes, o que poderá explicar o porquê de alguns indivíduos lidarem melhor com o stress. Pode ser individual ou coletiva. Nesta última situação, também pode ser definida como a habilidade de outro grupo, em superar a adversidade e se transformar em algo mais adaptado às circunstâncias. Resiliência da instituição pode ser definida como a capacidade intrínseca da organização para se ajustar a eventos/mudanças/perturbações e/ou oportunidades. O sistema apresentará Resiliência se permitir que os indivíduos consigam lidar com situações complexas. Discussão e Conclusões Ainda que esta se baseie em caraterísticas inatas, pode ser parcialmente treinada/adquirida, a título individual e/ou institucional. Quanto mais intensa e bem estruturada esta for, melhor a capacidade do funcionário e da empresa em superar adversidades, com cada vez mais qualidade e facilidade. Se a equipa de Saúde e Segurança Ocupacionais tiverem estas noções presentes e as souberem desenvolver, o seu desempenho ficará potenciado. Seria pertinente perceber qual o patamar médio de Resiliência entre os trabalhadores portugueses no global e em função de caraterísticas específicas (sexo, idade, profissão, vínculo laboral, habilitações e estado civil, por exemplo) e qual a melhor forma de o potenciar.

The aim of this review is to understand the concept and try to understand how this may influence some relevant variables in an occupational context, such as professional satisfaction, quality of working life, performance, teamwork, productivity, global health and safety at work. Methodology This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through research carried out in april of 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content The term was first used by Oates in 1971 to describe the uncontrollable need to work, disrupting health, happiness and relationships. Others add the great expenditure of energy and effort in this regard, to the detriment of relationships, health and time for oneself. Although there is no consensually accepted definition, there are several criteria to consider, including concern about work, working to avoid mood swings and harder to achieve the same feeling, dysphoria if unable to work and conflict with one's own feelings or needs. Discussion and Conclusions The content of the articles is not homogeneous, not only due to the difference between the possible definitions, but also due to the preconceptions of the researchers or the authors they consulted. In other words, it is considered that Workaholism can be working in an intense and committed way, with great performance, generating intense job satisfaction and admiration for the employer/managers/colleagues/family and friends; as it can also be seen as a pathological and/or disorganized way of approaching work, generating anxiety and discomfort, sometimes not even resulting in increased productivity. Knowing how to recognize the most negative aspects of this concept as early as possible will increase the possibility of intervening more effectively, enhancing job satisfaction, quality of life, performance, productivity and profit.

Pretende-se com esta revisão entender o conceito e tentar perceber de que forma esta condição poderá influenciar algumas variáveis relevantes em contexto ocupacional, como satisfação profissional, qualidade de vida laboral, desempenho, trabalho de equipa, produtividade, saúde global e segurança no trabalho. Ou seja, tanto se considera que Workaholism é trabalhar a ritmo intenso, com grande desempenho, geradora de uma grande satisfação laboral e admiração pelo empregador/chefias/colegas/familiares e amigos; como também pode ser visto como uma forma patológica e/ou desorganizada de encarar o trabalho, geradora de ansiedade e mal-estar, por vezes até nem se refletindo em aumento da produtividade. Saber reconhecer o mais precocemente possível as vertentes mais negativas deste conceito, aumentará a possibilidade de intervir de forma mais eficaz, potenciando a satisfação laboral, qualidade de vida, desempenho, produtividade e lucro.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives The legislation gives the possibility for pregnant women with jobs where there are night shifts, to avoid doing them during this stage. However, sometimes the workers themselves question whether this has concrete scientific validity and what this could entail for themselves and their descendants. Not being a topic with much published literature, this review allows to consult a summary of the most up-to-date records at this level, in order to make assertive and scientific decisions regarding conditioning, as well as whether these should be mandatory or optional. Methodology This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in May 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content Night shifts during pregnancy may be associated with greater family-work conflict, tiredness and sleep disturbance; as well as cancers, weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases; in addition to preterm delivery, low birth weight and congenital anomalies. Discussion and Conclusions Night shifts during pregnancy, especially if numerous and/or consecutive, seem to allow for some alterations, whose pathophysiology is reasonably explained/theorized. However, the probability and eventual severity of these issues must be considered by the pregnant woman herself, so that she (duly informed with regard to current medical knowledge on the subject) choose whether she wishes to continue to do some night shifts and, if so, how; since anxiety and disruption of routines can also be harmful, especially on an emotional and/or economic level (more prominently in companies where the pregnant woman has empathy with the tasks, the work team and/or I have a shared transport). It should be decided on a case-by-case basis, as a team, taking into account pregnant´s opinion. It would be interesting for professionals working in a hospital environment, in an institution that has Obstetric service, to focus a little on the topic, portraying the national reality and publishing their research in a magazine in the area, to disseminate knowledge. and national level, with international extrapolation.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos A legislação consagra a possibilidade de as grávidas com postos de trabalho em que existam turnos noturnos, os evitem durante esta etapa. Contudo, por vezes, as próprias trabalhadoras questionam a validade científica concreta dessa medida e o que isso poderá acarretar para si e para a descendência. Não sendo um tema com muita bibliografia publicada, esta revisão permite consultar uma síntese do que mais atualizado se registou a este nível, de forma a se tomarem decisões assertivas e científicas em relação a condicionamentos, bem como se estes devem ser obrigatórios ou opcionais. Conteúdo Os turnos noturnos durante a gravidez poderão associar-se a maior conflito família-trabalho, cansaço e perturbação do sono; bem como cancros, aumento de peso, diabetes, hipertensão arterial e outras doenças cardiovasculares; para além de parto pré-termo, baixo peso ao nascer e anomalias congénitas. Discussão e Conclusões Os turnos noturnos durante a gravidez, sobretudo se numerosos e/ou seguidos, parecem possibilitar algumas alterações, cuja fisiopatologia se encontra razoavelmente explicitada/teorizada. Contudo, a probabilidade e eventual gravidade dessas questões devem ser ponderadas pela própria grávida (devidamente informada relativamente aos conhecimentos médicos atuais), para que possa optar se deseja continuar a fazer alguns turnos noturnos e, em caso positivo, de que forma; uma vez que a ansiedade e perturbação de rotinas pode ser também perniciosa, sobretudo a nível emocional e/ou económico (com maior destaque em empresas onde a grávida tenha empatia com as tarefas e com a equipa de trabalho e/ou tenha meio de transporte partilhado). Caberá decidir caso a caso, em equipa, considerando a opinião da própria. Seria aliciante que profissionais a exercer em ambiente hospitalar, em instituição que tenha serviço de Obstetrícia, se debruçassem um pouco sobre o tema, retratando a realidade nacional e publicando a sua investigação em revista da área, para difusão de conhecimentos e nível nacional, com extrapolação internacional.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives Informal work has become more prevalent, simultaneously in more and less developed countries, although with very different characteristics, but with particularities capable of modulating in a concrete and relevant way some aspects of Occupational Health and Safety. The aim of this review was to provide professionals working in this area with some knowledge that would allow them to boost their performance and to be able to further expand the range of workers covered. Methodology This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in May 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content The term was created between the 1960s and 1970s, by the International Labor Organization, when preparing a report on Kenya and Ghana, when describing poor individuals, with unregistered, recognized, protected or regulated work. In other words, it is the set of activities that generate some income, but are not official; therefore, these are not regulated, nor do individuals have social security protection. Thus, it is associated with companies/family ownership, own resources, small-scale production, unofficial training and non-state regulation. Discussion and Conclusions It both includes extremely well-paid jobs with a lot of autonomy, health and safety in terms of occupational risks; as situations that fall into exactly the opposite, increasing medical problems and accidents at work, in addition to influencing the state economy and other conditions of formal workers. If professionals working in Occupational Health and Safety teams are more aware of these data, they will be better able to cover more workers in their networks, as well as globally improve Health and Safety, working conditions and the standard of living of population.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos O trabalho informal tem vindo a ser mais prevalente, simultaneamente em países mais e menos desenvolvidos, ainda que com caraterísticas muito diversas entre si, mas com particularidades que têm capacidade para modular de forma concreta e relevante alguns aspetos da Saúde e Segurança Ocupacionais. Pretendeu-se com esta revisão dotar os profissionais a exercer nesta área de alguns conhecimentos que lhe permitam potenciar o seu desempenho e a conseguir alargar mais o leque de trabalhadores abrangidos. Conteúdo O termo foi criado entre as décadas de sessenta e setenta, pela Organização Internacional do Trabalho, ao elaborar um relatório relativo ao Quénia e Gana, ao descrever indivíduos pobres, com trabalho não registado, reconhecido, protegido ou regulamentado. Ou seja, é o conjunto de atividades que criam algum rendimento, mas não são oficiais; logo, não são regulamentadas, nem os indivíduos têm proteção da segurança social. Alguns consideram que o Trabalho Informal é uma consequência da globalização e a maior liberdade dos mercados; salientando que estes rendimentos não geravam impostos. Assim, ele está associado a empresas/propriedade familiar, recursos próprios, produção em pequena escala, formação não oficial e não regulamentação do estado. Discussão e Conclusões Tanto incluiu postos de trabalho extremamente bem remunerados e com muita autonomia, salubridade e segurança a nível de riscos laborais; como situações que caiem exatamente no inverso, potenciando os problemas médicos e sinistralidade laboral, para além de influenciarem negativamente a economia do estado e restantes condições dos trabalhadores formais. Se os profissionais a exercer nas equipas de Saúde e Segurança Ocupacionais estiverem mais conscientes destes dados, terão mais capacidade para abranger mais trabalhadores nas suas redes de atuação, bem como, globalmente, melhorar a Saúde e Segurança, condições de trabalho e nível de vida de população.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives: The use of this equipment is increasingly common in various professional sectors and for longer periods, whether within a work shift or throughout life. Thus, their interaction with workers' health becomes increasingly relevant, resulting in the need to research what has been described on this topic. This review aims to summarize the most relevant information published, so that professionals in the Health and Safety teams have more tools to guide the matter and so that the workers themselves better understand what could be at stake and are more receptive to protective measures that may be proposed. Methodology: This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through research carried out in april of 2023, in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content: Acoustic shock can be secondary to an intense and unexpected noise and its prevalence can vary between 13 and 22%; however, it is a complex and controversial concept. It is eventually characterized by otalgia, tinnitus, vertigo, a burning sensation near the ear and anxiety. Acoustic shocks can cause cochlear trauma. The use of Headsets does not seem to cause more fatigue than noise from other sources, as long as it is of the same intensity. Most Call Centers operators work in an open space, with colleagues, which increases exposure to noise. The higher this is, the higher the eqquipment is placed. Susceptibility to hearing loss presents individual variability and interaction with some comorbidities (such as smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia); as well as gender and age. Most of these operators listen well; even if they report difficulty in perceiving words with ambient noise and tinnitus. Discussion and Conclusions: Although it is quite common for Call Centers workers to mention, during Occupational Medicine consultations, complaints that they associate with overall noise (especially that produced by Headsets); in reality, the bibliography on the topic is scarce and not very robust. Even so, it describes some very brief instructions to try to minimize the damage and enhance the well-being, satisfaction and productivity of professionals who use this type of equipment. It would be interesting to investigate the subject a little better, better understand the national panorama and publicize this in scientific publications.

RESUMO Introdução/enquadramento/objetivos: O uso deste equipamento é cada vez mais frequente em diversos setores profissionais e por períodos mais prolongados, quer dentro de um turno de trabalho, quer ao longo da vida. Assim, a interação destes com a saúde dos trabalhadores fica cada vez mais relevante, surgindo a necessidade de pesquisar o que se tem descrito sobre este tema. Esta revisão pretende resumir o que de mais pertinente se publicou, de forma que os profissionais das equipas de Saúde e Segurança tenham mais ferramentas para orientar o assunto e para que os próprios trabalhadores percebam melhor o que poderá estar em causa e estejam mais recetivos a medidas de proteção eventualmente propostas. Conteúdo: O choque acústico pode ser secundário a um ruido intenso e inesperado e a sua prevalência pode variar entre 13 a 22%; contudo, trata-se de um conceito complexo e controverso. Carateriza-se eventualmente por otalgia, zumbido, vertigem, sensação de queimadura próxima ao ouvido e ansiedade. Os choques acústicos podem causar trauma coclear. O uso de Headsets não parece causar mais fadiga que ruido com outras origens, desde que com a mesma intensidade. A maioria dos operadores de Call Center trabalha em espaço aberto, com colegas, o que potencia a exposição ao ruído. Quanto mais elevado este for, mais alto é colocado o som do equipamento, para conseguir ouvir a chamada. A suscetibilidade à perda de audição apresenta variabilidade individual e interação com algumas comorbidades (como tabagismo, hipertensão arterial, diabetes e dislipidemia); bem como sexo e idade. A maioria dos operadores de Call Center ouve bem; apesar de mencionarem dificuldade em perceber as palavras com o ruído ambiente e zumbido. Discussão e Conclusões: Ainda que seja bastante frequente estes trabalhadores referirem, durante as consultas de Medicina do Trabalho, queixas que associam ao ruido global (com destaque pelo produzido pelos Headsets); na realidade, a bibliografia sobre o tema é escassa e pouco robusta. Ainda assim, nela estão descritas algumas indicações muito sumárias para tentar minorar os danos e potenciar o bem-estar, satisfação e produtividade dos profissionais que usam este tipo de equipamento. Seria interessante investigar um pouco melhor o assunto, perceber melhor o panorama nacional e divulgar tal em publicações científicas.

ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a disease that can progress in a debilitating manner and affect some individuals of working age, so it will be important that professionals working in Occupational Health and Safety have a reasonable set of knowledge on the subject, to be able to adjust work tasks as best as possible, as well as any protective measures, enhancing well-being and performance/productivity. Furthermore, knowing the work factors that increase it, it will be possible to slightly reduce the incidence of the pathology. The aim of this review was to summarize in Portuguese the most current and relevant articles published on the topic in international and national literature. Methodology: This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in April 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content: This pathology is a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by muscular atrophy/paralysis, generally beginning in adulthood with an average survival of two to three years. The first manifestations generally involve asthenia of the lower limbs, generally in the 5th or 6th decade of life. Focal paralysis intensifies and spreads, reaching the respiratory muscles and culminating in respiratory failure. However, the pathophysiology is not clearly understood. Some researchers consider that the only environmental fact that could have any influence could be smoking; others even claim that the influence of global environmental exposure itself is controversial. At this level, with greater or lesser consensus, pesticides, fertilizers, solvents, heavy metals, formaldehyde, diesel, physical exertion/hypoxia, trauma and contact with electricity stand out. Therefore, there are also some professional sectors that may present greater risk. Discussion and Conclusions: Even though the prevalence of this pathology is low, some of these individuals are part of the active population, at least at an initial stage. No concrete data was found regarding protective measures or other relevant attitudes for the Health and Safety team to guide in this context. Even so, the authors succinctly recorded some items in this sense, depending on their professional experience, especially for pathologies with some similarities and more prevalent. It would be interesting for professionals working in a hospital environment, in an institution where there is a support consultation for users with this pathology, to focus a little on the topic, portraying the national reality and publishing their research in a magazine in the area, to disseminate knowledge at national level, with international extrapolation, given the scarcity of bibliography.

Para além disso, conhecendo os fatores laborais que a potenciam, poder-se-á diminuir um pouco a incidência da patologia. Pretendeu-se com esta revisão resumir em português o que de mais atual e relevante se publicou sobre o tema nas literaturas internacional e nacional. As primeiras manifestações geralmente incidem na astenia dos membros inferiores, geralmente na 5ª ou 6ª décadas de vida. A paralisia intensifica-se e alastra-se, podendo atingir os músculos respiratórios e culminar em insuficiência respiratória. Contudo, a fisiopatologia não está esclarecida com clareza. Alguns investigadores consideram que o único fator ambiental que poderá ter alguma influência poderá ser o tabagismo; outros até afirmam que a influência da exposição ambiental global em si é controversa. Neste contexto, com maior ou menor consenso, destacam-se os pesticidas, fertilizantes, solventes, metais pesados, formaldeído, diesel, esforço físico/hipoxia, trauma e contato com a eletricidade. Desta forma, existem também alguns setores profissionais que poderão apresentar maior risco. Discussão e Conclusões: Ainda que a prevalência desta doença seja baixa, parte destes indivíduos estão inseridos na população ativa, pelo menos numa fase inicial. Não se encontraram dados concretos relativos a medidas de proteção ou outras atitudes relevantes para a equipa de Saúde e Segurança orientar neste contexto; ainda assim, os autores registaram de forma sucinta alguns itens nesse sentido, em função da sua experiência profissional, sobretudo para patologias com algumas semelhanças e mais prevalentes. Seria aliciante que profissionais a exercer em ambiente hospitalar, em instituição que exista uma consulta de apoio a utentes com esta patologia, se debruçassem um pouco sobre o tema, retratando a realidade nacional e publicando a sua investigação em revista da área, para difusão de conhecimentos a nível nacional, com extrapolação internacional, dada a escassez de bibliografia.

Abstract Genipa americana (Rubiaceae) is a fruit tree with broad phytogeographic domain and suitable for different silvicultural systems in the tropics. The knowledge associated with the relative growth rate of species such as G. americana, provides important guidelines for the effective establishment and survival of seedlings after planting in the field. In this study we investigated differences in growth, biomass allocation and photosynthesis of seedlings originating from different mother plants of G. americana in southern Bahia, Brazil. For this, we evaluated fifteen variables associated with carbon balance at the whole plant and leaf scales of twelve G. americana progenies. All seedlings grew over a period of 198 days under similar microclimatic conditions with approximately 65% full sun. Our results showed significant differences in the relative growth rates (RGR), with the highest and lowest mean values being 29.0 and 38.0 mg g-1 day-1, respectively. Differences in RGR between G. americana progenies were highly related to differences in biomass allocation at both whole plant and leaf scales. From a practical point of view, we demonstrate that the selection of mother plants to produce seedlings with higher growth rates, and consequently greater establishment capacity in field plantings, can be made from evaluations of growth and biomass allocation variables at the whole plant scale. Resumo Genipa americana (Rubiaceae) é uma árvore frutífera com amplo domínio fitogeográfico e adequada para diferentes sistemas silviculturais nos trópicos. O conhecimento associado à taxa de crescimento relativo de espécies como G. americana fornece diretrizes importantes para o estabelecimento e sobrevivência de mudas após o plantio no campo. Neste estudo investigamos diferenças no crescimento, alocação de biomassa e fotossíntese de mudas originárias de diferentes plantas-mãe de G. americana no sul da Bahia, Brasil. Para isso, foram avaliadas quinze variáveis associadas ao balanço de carbono em escala de planta inteira e escala foliar de doze progênies de G. americana. Todas as mudas cresceram durante um período de 198 dias sob condições microclimáticas semelhantes com aproximadamente 65% de pleno sol. Nossos resultados mostraram diferenças significativas nas taxas de crescimento relativo (RGR), sendo os valores médios mais altos e mais baixos 29.0 e 38.0 mg g-1 dia-1, respectivamente. Abstract The present research proposed the use of construction and demolition waste (CDW) in adsorption of methylene blue dye in aqueous medium. CDW was studied in its natural form and calcined aiming to improve its properties, both being characterized by different techniques and subjected to adsorption studies. From the kinetic study, it was verified that both systems presented a better fit to the experimental data for the pseudo-second-order model (R2 >0.980). The concentration and temperature variation showed a maximum adsorption capacity of 112.23 mg.g-1 (natural) and 418.6 mg.g-1 (calcined) both for the temperature of 45 ºC. The experimental data fit better with the Langmuir isotherm model, with a correlation coefficient R2 ≥0.960 for both samples. It was observed that both residues presented favorable adsorption mechanisms and effective adsorption parameters, but the calcined sample presented better results, and thinking in a low-cost material, natural sample can be more economically advantageous. In this view, CDW represents a potential and promising alternative for water purification. The purpose of this study was to verify the association between angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) genotypes DD, DI, and II and caffeine (CAF) ingestion on endurance performance, heart rate, ratio of perceived exertion (RPE), and habitual caffeine intake (HCI) of adolescent athletes. Seventy-four male adolescent athletes (age: DD=16±1.7; DI=16±2.0; II=15±1.7 years) ingested CAF (6 mg/kg) or placebo (PLA) one hour before performing the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery level 1 (Yo-Yo IR1) test. No difference was found among groups for HCI. However, CAF increased the maximal distance covered and VO2max in DI and II genotype carriers compared to PLA (DD: Δ=31 m and 0.3 mL·kg-1·min-1; DI: Δ=286 m and 1.1 mL·kg-1·min-1; II: Δ=160 m and 1.4 mL·kg-1·min-1). Heart rate of DI and II genotype carriers increased with CAF compared to PLA, while RPE was higher in the II and lower in the DD genotypes. The correlations between HCI and maximal distance covered or VO2max were significant in the II genotype carriers with CAF. CAF increased endurance capacity, heart rate, and RPE in adolescent athletes with allele I, while endurance performance and aerobic power had a positive correlation to HCI in the II genotype group. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of licuri (Syagrus coronate) cake (LC) on the chemical composition, cholesterol content, and fatty acid profile of meat from cull cows finished in a high-grain feedlot. We used 40 Zebu cull cows of 108 months of age and with an initial weight of 318 ± 38.17 kg. The animals were distributed into four treatments in a completely randomized design: control (0 g/kg LC), 50, 100, and 150 g/kg LC in the total dry matter of the total diet, and were confined for 105 d. The inclusion of LC influenced the content of total lipids and total cholesterol of the beef. The inclusion of LC influenced the concentrations of fatty acids (C12:0, C14:0, C14:1, C16:0, and C17:1) in the meat of cull cows. There was an effect of the inclusion of LC on the fatty acids C18:2n6t, C18:2n6, and C18:3n3 of the meat of cull cows finished in the feedlot. The inclusion of up to 50 g/kg LC in the diet of cows provided lower values for the sum (Σ) of saturated fatty acids and higher values for Σ monounsaturated fatty acids in the meat. The Σ polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased with the inclusion of LC in the diet. We recommend using up to 50 g/kg of licuri cake inclusion in the diet of cull cows finished in the feedlot.

Resumo O estudo das serpentes envolve fatores fisiológicos, comportamentais e de interação com um ambiente extremamente dinâmico e complexo. A relação destes animais com a biodiversidade ainda é bastante preliminar, pouco estudada e muito alimentada por práticas populares ligadas a medicina tradicional, correntes esotéricas e místicas. Nessa linha que este estudo propôs conhecer sobre o efeito do extrato bruto alcoólico a 80% da Petiveria alliacea L, popularmente conhecida como Erva Tipi, e seus efeitos associados à repelência da serpente Bothrops moojeni. Foi construído um complexo de caixas para a observação do deslocamento da serpente, realizado por um período total de seis dias, sendo os três primeiros para definição do padrão exploratório e os outros dois para o teste ao extrato alcóolico de Tipi e finalmente no sexto dia um ciclo com presença de um atrativo vivo. Foi observado que o animal não teve comportamento de inibição e se deslocou pelo complexo de forma análoga ao que ocorre na natureza e demonstrou comportamento de evitar se manter na presença do extrato tanto com a presença de um atrativo vivo como sem ele, preferindo se deslocar nos outros compartimentos. Os resultados mostram que essa ferramenta proposta é valida para estudo de deslocamento das serpentes Bothrops moojeni, da mesma maneira que agregou valores na importância da biodiversidade do Cerrado e sobre as práticas populares da Erva Tipi, uma vez que o efeito repelente sobre a serpente foi significativo nos dois testes realizados.

Abstract The serpent study involves physiological, behavioral and interaction factors with an extremely dynamic and complex environment. The relation of these animals with biodiversity is still quite preliminary, little studied and sustained by popular practices related to traditional medicine, esoteric and mystical currents. Therefore, this study proposed to know about the effect of 80% crude alcoholic extract of Petiveria alliacea L., popularly known as Tipi Herb, and its effects associated with the repellency of the Bothrops moojeni serpent. A complex of boxes was built for the observation of the snake's displacement, carried out for a total period of six days, the first three for defining the exploratory pattern and the other two for testing the alcoholic extract of Tipi, and finally on the sixth day, one cycle with the presence of a live attractant as bait. It was observed that the animal had no inhibition behavior and moved through the complex in a way like what occurs in nature and showed behavior to avoid remaining in the presence of the extract both with the presence of a live attractant or without it, preferring to move in the other compartments. The results show that this proposed tool is valid for the study of displacement of Bothrops moojeni snakes, in the same way that it added values on the importance of cerrado biome biodiversity and on the popular medicine practices of Tipi Herb, since the repellent effect on the snake was significant in the two tests performed.
