O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os parâmetros do solo e as características dendrométricas de um Eucalyptus grandis com 30 meses de idade. plantio em área de encosta no município de Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brasil. Quatro unidades amostrais foram alocadas aleatoriamente em quatro níveis altitudinais: topo (145 m), 30 m (132 m), 20 m (122 m) e base (105 m). O diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) e a altura de todas as árvores foram medidos em cada unidade amostral. As amostras de solo foram coletadas para determinar os seguintes parâmetros: argila, matéria orgânica, saturação por bases (V), capacidade de troca catiônica (CTC), pH em água, ácido potencial (H+Al), alumínio (Al), fósforo (P), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg) e sódio (Na).A análise estatística indicou que a posição no relevo influenciou apenas CTC, pH, H+Al, K e Na. As maiores médias de CTC (44,88 cmol c dm 3 ) e H+Al (44,97 cmol c dm 3 ) foram observadas no topo. Em contraste, os maiores valores de pH (4,17), K (41,25 mg kg -1 ) e Na (14,75 mg kg -1 ) foram observados na base. Com relação aos parâmetros dendrométricos, apenas a densidade de indivíduos e o diâmetro à do peito foram influenciados pela posição no relevo. A maior densidade foi encontrada na base (2.250 indivíduos), onde foram observados indivíduos com diâmetros menores.Em contraste, os maiores valores de DAP foram observados na profundidade de 30 m (11,36 cm). Os solos neste estudo eram sensíveis e distróficos. Portanto, pequenas variações não têm relevo condicionam a variabilidade dos atributos do solo e o crescimento de E. grandis aos 30 meses de idade.

Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar as alterações temporais na composição florística e estrutura da regeneração em um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista sem intervenções há décadas, nos anos de 2012 e 2017. A área experimental foi composta por 20 parcelas circulares de 2,5 m de raio, onde foi realizada a quantificação dos regenerantes; a medição das alturas individuais das árvores e a identificação do grupo ecológico ao qual cada espécie pesquisada pertencia. Todos os indivíduos com altura mínima de 0,50 m e circunferência a altura do peito menor do que 15 cm foram medidos. Aproximadamente 12.382 ind ha-1 foram encontrados em 2012 e 11.185 ind ha-1 em 2017. Somente as seguintes espécies tiveram aumento de densidade em 2017 em comparação com o ano 2012: Dalbergia frutescens (280,3 ind ha-1), Myrsine coriacea (178,3 ind ha-1), Allophylus guaraniticus (76,4 ind ha-1), Bernadia pulchella (51,0 ind ha-1), Casearia obliqua (50,9 ind ha-1), Casearia decandra (25,5 ind ha-1) e Luehea divaricata (25,5 ind ha-1). As demais espécies tiveram um saldo negativo ou desapareceram da área. A análise dos grupos ecológicos indicou gradual substituição de espécies clímax tolerantes à sombra por espécies pioneiras e clímax exigentes de luz. As espécies mais representativas identificadas em ambas ocasiões não sofreram grandes alterações, indicando que são mais propensas a permanecer na área estudada. Os resultados indicaram que o remanescente estudado se encontra em fase avançada de sucessão; no entanto, apresenta alterações pontuais que refletem sua dinâmica florística e ecológica.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the temporal changes in the floristic composition and regeneration structure in a remnant of Mixed Ombrophilous Forest that has been without interventions for decades. Two surveys were undertaken for the study; the first survey was conducted in 2012, and the second in 2017. The experimental area comprised 20 circular plots of 2.5 m radius, where was it performed the quantification of the regenerants, measurement of individual tree heights, and identification of the ecological group that each surveyed species belonged. All individuals with a minimum height of 0.50 m and a circumference at breast height of less than 15 cm were measured. Approximately 12,382 ind ha-1 were found in 2012 and 11,185 ind ha-1 in 2017. Only the following species increased their abundance per hectare in 2017 compared to the previous survey: Dalbergia frutescens (280.3 ind ha-1), Myrsine coriacea (178.3 ind ha-1), Allophylus guaraniticus (76.4 ind ha-1), Bernadia pulchella (51.0 ind ha-1), Casearia obliqua (50.9 ind ha-1), Casearia decandra (25.5 ind ha-1), and Luehea divaricata (25.5 ind ha-1). The remaining species had a negative balance or disappeared from the study. Ecological group analysis indicated the gradual replacement of shadow-tolerant climax species by pioneer and light-demanding climax species. The most representative species identified on both occasions did not undergo major changes, indicating that they are more likely to remain in the studied area. The results indicated that the studied remnant forest is in an advanced phase of succession; however, it presents punctual alterations that reflect its floristic and ecological dynamics.

ABSTRACT Commercial eucalyptus forestry has significantly increased in the last decades to supply the growing demand for forest goods (pulp, paper, sawmill, by-product industries, and biomass for bioenergy and biofuels). Among factors most influencing forest productivity, the soil physical environment is very important and can be harmful or beneficial to trees. In the effort to increase environmental and economic sustainability of commercial plantations, in this literature review, we summarize relationships between soil type and properties, forest rotation, and forest growth and productivity. Mechanized soil tillage must consider soil type, particularly land slope, soil drainage and depth, along with forest rotation (first or higher-order). Soil surveys, including soil physical properties (e.g., compaction, granulometry including gravel) and morphological attributes (e.g., horizons, solum depth, subsurface drainage impedance), are thus essential for foresters to make knowledgeable decisions on soil tillage, provided tillage is the single most costly practice in eucalyptus forestry. Subsoiling is the most common soil tillage for eucalyptus, but it is best for deep, drained soils. Existing scientific publications show, for clayey cohesive or compacted soils, tillage depth might be of 0.70 m (deep subsoiling) to ameliorate compacted soil of low microporosity and restriction to root growth, but 0.50 m (shallow) subsoiling plus ridding produce similar results. The latter, nonetheless, has a higher operational cost. Downslope subsoiling on sloppy lands increases the risk for soil erosion, which may be reduced by interrupting ripping, mechanized hole- or pit-drilling with low operational cost. Chiseling performed for fertilizer application (minimum 0.25 m deep) might be the only tillage required for non-compacted sandy soils. Mechanical or manual pitting could also be an option for second or higher rotations, but results show crop early-growth is restricted, possibly because of root confinement. For second or higher rotations, stumps require cutting to allow cross-slope tractor traffic and tillage. Subsoiling plus ridging or bedding is required in low-drainage or shallow soils to increase the soil volume to be explored by roots. The ridges can be built by grade bedding or terracing plows. In areas with waterlogging, drainage and ridging without subsoiling are necessary. Research opportunities include further studies for slopy lands and low-drainage or compacted soils, tillage affecting soil erosion and eucalyptus productivity, equipment for special tillage, and mapping compaction risk and special tillage needs.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi compreender a influência das variáveis edáficas e da cobertura foliar florestal no desenvolvimento da regeneração natural em um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista (MOF) no Sul do Brasil. A análise de componentes principais (PCA) foi utilizada para identificar a heterogeneidade das variáveis edáficas e de cobertura foliar entre as unidades amostrais, a partir da qual foram selecionadas as variáveis com maior correlação com as unidades amostrais. Posteriormente, essas variáveis foram utilizadas para explicar os padrões florísticos por meio da análise de correspondência canônica (CCA). A PCA mostrou que o índice de área foliar explica apenas parte da variação dos dados e que as variáveis de solo estudadas não são homogêneas entre as unidades amostrais. No eixo canônico principal da CCA, Miconia cubatanensis, Myrcia multiflora, Casearia decandra e Myrsine coriacea apresentaram maior correlação com variáveis associadas à acidez do solo. Em contraste, Allophylus guaraniticus e Cupania vernalis apresentaram alta correlação com variáveis relacionadas às bases. A análise das características físico-químicas do solo pode permitir a identificação mais precisa de espécies indicadoras para a restauração de remanescentes de MOF no Sul do Brasil.

Abstract The present study explored the influence of edaphic variables and forest leaf cover on natural regeneration in a remnant of a Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (MOF) in southern Brazil. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to elucidate the heterogeneity of edaphic and leaf cover variables among the sampling units, and the variables exhibiting the strongest correlations with the sampling units were selected. Subsequently, these variables were used to explain floristic patterns using canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). In PCA, the leaf area index explained only some variation in the data, and there was obvious heterogeneity in edaphic variables among the sample units. In the main canonical axis of the CCA, Miconia cubatanensis, Myrcia multiflora, Casearia decandra, and Myrsine coriacea showed greater correlation with variables associated with soil acidity. In contrast, Allophylus guaraniticus and Cupania vernalis showed a high correlation with variables related to bases. Overall, the analysis of soil physicochemical characteristics can allow for the more precise identification of indicator species for the restoration of remnant of MOF in southern Brazil.

Abstract This study aimed at evaluating and compare the changes from 2012 to 2016 in the structure and floristic composition of a remnant Araucaria Forest. The entry and mortality rates were 2.2% year-1 and 6.9% year-1, respectively. Among the most represented species, those with the greatest yearly increases in their numbers were Sebastiania brasiliensis, Eugenia uniflora, and Allophylus sp. Average mortality density was 498 ind ha-1, and was particularly high for the following species: Casearia decandra (representing 32.3% of total mortality), Eugenia sp. (27.2%), Cinnamodendron dinisii (24.5%), and Lithraea brasiliensis (25.2%). The pioneer species represented 8.33% of income and 29.17% mortality, and secondary species composed 33.33% and 62.50% of income and mortality, respectively. Climax species accounted for 8.33% of income and did not contribute to mortality. The high tree mortality observed in the present study can be attributed, among others factors, to the effects of natural disturbance that occurred in the period.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the litter production of different genotypes of Eucalyptus. An experiment was conducted in 43-month-old stands in the municipality of São Gabriel, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. For each genotype, a plot of 599.200 m was set. Fifteen samples were collected at random in each plot. The accumulated litter production ranged from 2.03 to 4.70 Mg ha-1. This number is the lowest value found in the Eucalyptus dunnii stands and the highest value in the hybrid Eucalyptus urograndis stands. The leaf fraction reached, on average, between 60% and 91% of the total litter. The various genotypes had differences in the litter deposited onto the soil top.

RESUMEN Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la producción de hojarasca de diferentes genotipos de eucalipto. Se realizó un experimento en stands de 43 meses en el municipio de São Gabriel, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Para cada genotipo, se estableció una parcela de 599.200 m. Quince muestras fueron recolectadas al azar en cada parcela. La producción de hojarasca acumulada varió de 2.03 a 4.70 Mg har 1 . Este es el valor más bajo encontrado en los rodales de Eucalyptus dunnii y el valor más alto en los rodales híbridos de Eucalyptus urograndis. La fracción foliar alcanzó en promedio entre 60% y 91% del total de la hojarasca. Los diversos genotipos tuvieron diferencias en la basura depositada sobre la superficie del suelo.

Resumo O manejo intensivo de povoamentos florestais pode aumentar a produção de biomassa, bem como aumentar a remoção de nutrientes do local. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi simular diferentes intensidades de colheita e calcular a eficiência de utilização de nutrientes para Eucalyptus urograndis em diferentes tipos de solo. O estudo foi realizado em um plantio do híbrido E. urograndis de sete anos de idade, no município de Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brasil. O local de estudo incluiu duas subáreas com solo arenoso e solo argiloso (Cambissolo Háplico e Latossolo Vermelho, respectivamente). Com os dados de estoque de biomassa e nutrientes foi simulada a remoção de nutrientes em cinco cenários de colheita diferentes. A eficiência de utilização de nutrientes foi obtida a partir da relação entre a quantidade de biomassa e os nutrientes de cada componente da árvore. A colheita da árvore inteira resultou na retirada de aproximadamente 61% dos nutrientes do local em solo arenoso, enquanto em solo argiloso, 57% dos nutrientes foram removidos. Com a colheita apenas da madeira do fuste comercial, apenas 22% dos nutrientes foram retirados do solo arenoso e 21% do solo argiloso. A madeira do caule foi o componente que apresentou os maiores valores da eficiência de utilização de nutrientes para todos os nutrientes analisados. Para alcançar a sustentabilidade nutricional dos povoamentos de E. urograndis, o melhor sistema de colheita envolve a remoção apenas da madeira do tronco comercial. Para a produção de madeira, os solos arenosos apresentam maior eficiência biológica de cálcio e magnésio quando comparados aos solos argilosos.

Abstract Intensive management of forest stands can increase biomass production, as well as increase the removal of nutrients from the site. This study therefore sought to simulate different harvest intensities and to calculate the nutrient-use efficiency of Eucalyptus urograndis in different types of soil. The study was carried out in a plantation of seven-year-old hybrid E. urograndis in the city of Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brazil. The study site included two sub areas with sandy soil and clayey soil (Cambisols Inceptisol and Ferralsols Oxisols, respectively). Using biomass and nutrients stock data, nutrient removal was simulated under five different harvest scenarios. Nutrient-use efficiency was obtained from the relation between the amount of biomass and nutrients of each tree component. Harvesting the whole tree resulted in the removal of approximately 61% of the nutrients from the site in sandy soil, while in clayey soil 57% of the nutrients were removed. With harvesting of only the commercial stemwood, only 22% of the nutrients were removed from the sandy soil, and 21% from the clayey soil. Stemwood was the component that had the highest nutrient-use efficiency values for all the analyzed nutrients. In conclusion, to achieve nutritional sustainability of E. urograndis stands, the best harvesting system involves the removal of only commercial stemwood. For the production of stemwood, sandy soils have a greater biological efficiency of calcium and magnesium when compared to clayey soil.

Resumo A produtividade de genótipos superiores em plantações florestais está em função da oferta, captura e eficiência de uso dos recursos. Nesse contexto, o conhecimento sobre a eficiência nutricional do Eucalyptus influencia agricultores e pesquisadores na tomada de decisões e no manejo de ecossistemas florestais. A pesquisa teve como objetivo estimar a eficiência no uso de nutrientes em genótipos de Eucalyptus plantados no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foram avaliados seis genótipos potenciais e as avaliações foram realizadas em povoamentos de 43 meses de idade. A eficiência do uso de nutrientes foi calculada usando a razão de biomassa e a quantidade de nutrientes para cada componente da biomassa. Os resultados aqui apresentados confirmam que existe sinergismo e antagonismo entre os nutrientes no nível da parte aérea nos genótipos de Eucalyptus. Para a madeira do fuste, E. saligna apresentou a melhor eficiência de utilização de N, P, K, S e Mn; e E. urophylla × E. globulus para Mg, B e Zn. As vias metabólicas controlam a produção de biomassa sintetizada por cada genótipo e as diferenças entre os grupos de genótipos foram baseadas na eficiência do uso de nutrientes nos componentes da biomassa. A madeira do caule foi o componente que apresentou maior eficiência de uso de nutrientes, enquanto as folhas apresentaram a menor eficiência de uso de nutrientes. Mas, além disso, nossas análises identificaram o quão diferente é cada genótipo de Eucalyptus e essas características podem ser usadas para alocação de clones de acordo com a fertilidade do solo.

Abstract Superior productivity of genotypes in forest plantations depends on the supply, capture and use-efficiency of resources. In this context, knowledge regarding the nutritional efficiency of Eucalyptus influences farmers and researchers in decision-making and in the management of forest ecosystems. The aim of this research was to estimate nutrient-use efficiency in Eucalyptus genotypes planted in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. We evaluated six potential genotypes at 43-month-old stands. Nutrient-use efficiency was calculated using the ratio of biomass and the amount of nutrients for each component of the biomass. Results here presented confirmed that there is synergism and antagonism between nutrients at the shoot level in the Eucalyptus genotypes. For stemwood, E. saligna showed the best utilization efficiency of N, P, K, S, and Mn; and E. urophylla × E. globulus for Mg, B, and Zn. Metabolic pathways control the production of biomass synthesized by each genotype and the differences between genotypes groups were on the basis of their nutrient-use efficiency in the biomass components. Stemwood was the component that showed the highest nutrient-use efficiency, while leaves presented the lowest nutrient-use efficiency. Additionally, our analyses identified how different each Eucalyptus genotype is and these traits may be used for clone allocation according to soil fertility.

Resumo Sabendo que a deposição atmosférica é a primeira fonte de entrada de nutrientes nos ecossistemas florestais e que a partição de precipitação serve como fonte nutricional principalmente quando há interação com o dossel florestal, o objetivo do presente estudo foi quantificar o aporte de nutrientes na precipitação incidente, precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco em um povoamento de Eucalyptus urophylla com exclusão parcial (E) e sem exclusão parcial (WE) da precipitação interna. O experimento está localizado no nordeste do estado do Paraná-Brasil, no município de Telêmaco Borba. O sistema de exclusão parcial de precipitação (E) é formado por um sistema de calhas que conduzem 30% da precipitação interna para fora do experimento. O aporte de nutrientes pela precipitação incidente foi de 55.7 kg ha-1 ano-1, enquanto que a soma dos mesmos na precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco foram de 39.8 kg ha-1 ano-1 no tratamento com exclusão (E) e de 64.1 kg ha-1 ano-1 no tratamento sem exclusão (WE). A interação com o dossel florestal enriquece com nutrientes especialmente com os elementos potássio e cloro devido a lixiviação dos tecidos vegetais. A redução do regime hídrico no tratamento com exclusão parcial da precipitação (E) reduziu de forma representativa a entrada de nutrientes. Embora o escoamento pelo tronco represente em média apenas 2.6% do volume de água, ele é responsável por 6.7% da quantidade de nutrientes em relação à precipitação. Portanto, o mesmo não pode ser negligenciado no balanço da ciclagem de nutrientes. Com uma rotação de 7 anos a aplicação de importantes quantidades de fertilizantes podem ser evitados considerando as entradas de 449 e 277 kg ha-1 ano-1.

Abstract Given that atmospheric deposition is the first source of nutrient input into forest ecosystems, and that the precipitation partition serves as a nutritional source mainly when there is an interaction with the forest canopy, the objective of the present study was to quantify the nutrients input into rainfall, throughfall and stemflow in Eucalyptus urophylla stands with partial exclusion (E) and without exclusion (WE) of throughfall. The experiment was conducted in the northeast of the state of Paraná-Brazil, in the municipality of Telêmaco Borba. The partial precipitation exclusion system (E) is formed by a system of gutters that conduct 30% of throughfall out of the experiment. The nutrient input in rainfall was 55.7 kg ha-1 yr-1, while the sum of throughfall and stemflow was 64.1 kg ha-1 yr-1 in treatment (WE) and 39.8 kg ha-1 yr-1 in treatment (E). Interaction with the canopy of the trees enriched the rainfall with nutrients, mainly the elements potassium and chlorine, due to leaching of the vegetal tissues. The reduction of the water treatment system in partial exclusion of precipitation (E) reduced representative nutrient input. Although stemflow represents on average only 2.6% of the water volume, it is responsible for 6.7% of the amount of nutrients in relation to precipitation. Therefore, stemflow cannot be neglected in the balance of nutrient cycling. With a rotation of 7 years, the application of significant amounts of fertilizers can be avoided, considering the inputs of 449 and 277 kg ha-1year-1.

Resumo O comportamento hidrológico em microbacias reflorestadas é diferenciado de outras formas de cobertura. A variação pode estar relacionada tanto à aspectos intrínsecos à espécie, densidade de plantio, maturidade fisiológica, sistema de manejo e às condições climáticas. Periodicamente anomalias climáticas como o caso do La Ninã são constatadas e essas, são responsáveis pela alteração do regime pluviométrico e consequentemente geram déficits hídricos na região sul do Brasil. O déficit hídrico é responsável pela redução do crescimento e da produtividade para o gênero Eucalyptus, além de provocar alterações no comportamento hidrológico em bacias hidrográficas reflorestadas. Por conta disso, o objetivo do estudo foi comparar a partição da precipitação pluviométrica em precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação pela copa das árvores de eucalipto submetidas ou não à exclusão parcial da precipitação. Foram instalados 3 coletores de precipitação em área aberta, e no interior do povoamento, para cada tratamento de exclusão de chuva, 9 coletores de precipitação interna e 9 coletores de escoamento pelo tronco foram instalados. Ao longo de 12 meses, quinzenalmente, o volume dos coletores era aferido. A precipitação quantificada foi de 1627 mm ao longo de um ano. No tratamento sem exclusão, 84.8, 2.9 e 12.3% referiram-se à precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação pela copa respectivamente, enquanto que no tratamento com exclusão da precipitação 80.6, 2.3 e 17.2% referiram-se à precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação. Os ajustes da regressão para precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco mostraram bons coeficientes R2.

Abstract Hydrological behavior in reforested watersheds is different from that under other forms of cover. The variation may be related to aspects intrinsic to species, planting density, physiological maturity, management system and climatic conditions. Periodically, climatic anomalies such as the case of La Ninã are observed, and these are responsible for the alteration of the rainfall regime and consequently generate water deficits in the southern region of Brazil. Water deficit is responsible for reducing growth and productivity for the Eucalyptus genus, in addition to causing changes in hydrological behavior in reforested watersheds. Accordingly, this study compared the partition of rainfall in throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception of eucalyptus trees submitted or not to partial exclusion of precipitation. In the open field, 3 rainfall collectors were installed, and in the stand, for each rain exclusion treatment, 9 throughfall collectors and 9 stemflow collectors were installed. Every two weeks for 12 months, the volume of the collectors was measured. The quantified precipitation was 1627 mm over a year. In the treatment without exclusion, 84.8, 2.9 and 12.3% referred to throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception, respectively, while in the treatment excluding rainfall 80.6, 2.3 and 17.2% referred to throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception. The regression adjustments for throughfall and stemflow showed satisfactory R2 coefficients.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as alterações ocorridas, no período de 2012 a 2016, na estrutura da regeneração natural de um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, sem intervenções há mais de 40 anos. Em relação a dinâmica da composição florística da regeneração natural, houve a saída de 18 espécies (23,38% do total) e a entrada de 27 novas espécies (35,06% do total). Os maiores acréscimos foram observados para Allophylus edulis, Myrsine umbellata e Miconia cinerascens. Analisando a dinâmica da regeneração em grupos ecológicos, observou-se que as espécies pioneiras tiveram um valor similar em ambos os levantamentos (29,4 a 29,6%). As espécies secundárias decresceram de 56,6% para 52,8%. E as espécies de sucessão tardia aumentaram de 0,2 a 6,0%. Logo, o remanescente estudado encontra-se em fase de cicatrização de distúrbio, caracterizada pelo aumento da regeneração de espécies pioneiras, uma vez que há quantidade suficiente de luminosidade incidindo no interior da floresta.

Abstract This study evaluated changes in the structure for remnant Mixed Ombrophilous Forest recovering from logging, which ceased over 40 years ago. Regarding the dynamics of the floristic composition of natural regeneration, 18 species remained (23.38% of the total) and 27 new species entered (35.06% of the total). The greatest increases were observed for Allophylus edulis, Myrsine umbellata, and Miconia cinerascens. When analyzing the dynamics of regeneration in ecological groups, it was observed that pioneer species had a similar value in both surveys (29.4% and 29.6%); secondary species decreased from 56.6% to 52.8%, and late-successional species increased from 0.2% to 6.0%. Therefore, the forest fragment studied is in a healing phase after disturbance, characterized by the increased regeneration of pioneer species as a result of sufficient light entering the interior of the forest.

ABSTRACT The study of the nutrients removed with forest harvesting is presented as an essential fator favoring the sustainable use of forest stands. The research was carried out in an experimental area in Horto Florestal Terra Dura in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul, RS, Brazil, where six Eucalyptus clones were planted. Based on the nutrient stock of each biomass component, the simulation of nutrient removal through biomass harvesting was calculated for three scenarios: (1) harvesting of stemwood, (2) harvesting of stem-wood with stembark, and (3) harvesting of all aboveground biomass. In the first scenario, the highest amount of nutrients exported with biomass harvest occurred in the Eucalyptus hybrids E. urophylla x E. globulus (N, K, S, and Fe) and E. urophylla x E. grandis (Ca, B, Cu, and Zn). In the second scenario, the highest nutrient exportation occurred in E. benthamii (Provenance 1) (N, P, Ca, Mn, and B) and hybrid E. urophylla x E. globulus (K, S, and Fe). In the third scenario, the highest nutrient exportation occurred in E. benthamii (Provenance 1) (P, Ca, B, Mn, and Zn), E. grandis (Mg and Cu), and hybrid E. urophylla x E. globulus (N, K, S, and Fe). Harvesting of all aboveground biomass was the most aggressive scenario, showing the highest export of nutrients. However, for reducing the nutritional impact of biomass harvesting, the best scenario was the one in which only stemwood was harvested.

RESUMEN El estudio de los nutrientes extraídos con la cosecha forestal se presenta como un factor esencial que favorece el uso sostenible de las plantaciones forestales. La investigación se llevó a cabo en un área experimental en Horto Florestal Terra Dura en el municipio de Eldorado do Sul, RS, Brasil, donde se plantaron seis clones de eucalipto. Con base en el contenido de nutrientes de cada componente de biomasa, la simulación de la extracción de nutrientes por la recolección de biomasa se calculó para tres tratamientos: (1) cosecha de madera de tallo; (2) cosecha de madera con corteza de tallo; y (3) cosecha de toda la biomasa aérea. En el primer tratamiento, la mayor cantidad de nutrientes exportados con la cosecha de biomasa ocurrió en los híbridos de eucalipto E. urophylla x E. globulus (N, K, S y Fe) y E. urophylla x E. grandis (Ca, B, Cu y Zn). En el segundo tratamiento, la mayor exportación de nutrientes se produjo en E. benthamii (Procedencia 1) (N, P, Ca, Mn y B) y E. urophylla x E. globulus híbridos (K, S y Fe). En el tercer tratamiento, la mayor exportación de nutrientes ocurrió en E. benthamii (Procedencia 1) (P, Ca, B, Mn y Zn), E. grandis (Mg y Cu) y E. urophylla x E. globulus híbridos (N, K, S y Fe). La recolección de toda la biomasa aérea fue el escenario más agresivo, mostrando la mayor exportación de nutrientes. Sin embargo, para reducir el impacto nutricional de la recolección de biomasa, el mejor tratamiento fue aquel en el que solo se cosechaba madera de tallo.

O presente estudo objetivou conhecer os padrões da composição florística e estrutural do componente arbóreo de um trecho de remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Campos Novos - SC e determinar as variáveis ambientais que influenciam estes padrões. Para isso, foi amostrado 1 ha de floresta por meio de 50 parcelas de 10 × 20 m dispostas de forma sistemática, distanciada 30 m entre si, no remanescente florestal. Dentro das parcelas foram identificados e mensurados (circunferência medida a altura do peito, CAP, e altura total) CAP, e altura total) todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos com CAP ≥ 15,7 cm. Os dados ambientais relacionados às propriedades químicas e físicas dos solos e à topografia também foram coletados em cada parcela. Foram calculados o índice de Shannon-Wiener (H'), a equabilidade de Pielou (J') e os estimadores fitossociológicos. A organização florístico-estrutural do fragmento foi analisada por meio de uma NMDS (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling). As variáveis ambientais foram ajustadas a posteriori à ordenação produzida, sendo aquelas significativas (p < 0,05) plotadas na forma de vetores. Foram amostrados 1.027 indivíduos, que totalizaram uma área basal de 43,57 m2, distribuídos em 88 espécies e 41 famílias botânicas. A diversidade do remanescente estudado foi relativamente alta (H'=3,59) e a dominância baixa (J'=0,80). A espécie de maior VI foi Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14,44%). A análise multivariada NMDS indicou um gradiente florístico-estrutural relacionado à cota média (altitude), saturação de bases, pH e teores de P nos solos.

In order to identify the floristic and structure patterns of the tree component and to determine the environmental variables that influence these patterns in a sector of montane Araucaria Forest remnant, 50 plots of 10 × 20 m were allocated, using systematic sampling, 30m apart from each other, in Campos Novos, SC. Within the plots, all living trees with cbh (circumference at breast height) ≥ 15,7 cm were identified and measured (cbh and total height). Environmental data related to chemical and physical properties of soils and topography were also collected from each sampled plot. To describe the tree vegetation richness, diversity and structure, the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), the Pielou evenness index (J') and the phytosociological estimates were obtained. The floristic and structural organization of the fragment was analyzed through a NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling). The environmental variables were fitted a posteriori in the produced ordination, being those significant (p < 0.05) plotted as vectors. A total 1.027 individuals were sampled, which represented a basal area of 43.57 m2, distributed in 88 species and 41 families. The diversity of the fragment studied was relatively high (H'=3.59) with low dominance (J'=0.80). The specie with higher VI was Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14.44%). The NMDS indicated a floristic-structural gradient related to the mean elevation (altitude), soil base saturation, soil pH and P soil content.

ABSTRACT Improper management of rangelands can cause land degradation and reduce the economic efficiency of livestock activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate soil properties and quantify plant biomass production in four natural rangeland management systems in the Santa Catarina Plateau (Planalto Catarinense) of Brazil. The treatments, which included mowed natural rangeland (NR), burned natural rangeland (BR), natural rangeland improved through the introduction of plant species after harrowing (IH), and natural rangeland improved through the introduction of plant species after chisel plowing (IC), were evaluated in a Nitossolo Bruno (Nitisol). In the improved treatments, soil acidity was corrected, phosphate fertilizer was applied, and intercropped annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), velvet grass (Holcus lanatus), and white clover (Trifolium repens) were sown. Management systems with harrowed or chisel plowed soil showed improved soil physical properties; however, the effect decreased over time and values approached those of burned and mowed natural rangelands. Natural rangeland systems in the establishment phase had little influence on soil organic C. The mowed natural rangeland and improved natural rangeland exhibited greater production of grazing material, while burning the field decreased production and increased the proportion of weeds. Improvement of the natural rangelands increased leguminous biomass for pasture.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a composição florística e a estrutura da regeneração natural em um setor onde ocorreu a mortalidade sincronizada de um maciço de taquara (Merostachys multiramea Hackel) (CT) e em uma área adjacente, com dossel contínuo e ausência de taquara (ST), em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Lages - SC. Foram alocadas 14 unidades amostrais de 5 x 5 m (seis no setor CT e oito no setor ST), nas quais todos os indivíduos arbóreos regenerantes com circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) ≤ 15 cm e altura ≥ 25 cm foram identificados e mensurados (diâmetro do colo). As famílias com maior riqueza de espécies foram: Myrtaceae (nove), Solanaceae (seis) e Aquifoliaceae (quatro). O setor ST apresentou um índice de diversidade de Shannon de 2,73 e o setor CT apresentou o valor de 2,31. Solanum variabile, Piptocarpha angustifolia, Mimosa scabrella, Jacaranda puberula e Solanum pseudoquina foram as espécies de maior valor de importância (VI) no setor CT. As espécies de maior VI no setor ST foram Myrsine lorentziana, Casearia decandra, Cinnamodendron dinisii, Drimys brasiliensis e Ilex paraguariensis. Os resultados mostraram que a mortalidade sincronizada de indivíduos de taquara influenciou na variação espacial dos descritores florísticos e estruturais da regeneração natural de espécies arbóreas.

The present study aimed to analyze the floristic and structural descriptors of tree species natural regeneration in a forest sector with synchronized bamboo (Merostachys multiramea Hackel ) die-off (CT) and an adjacent area with continuous canopy cover (ST) in an araucaria forest fragment in the municipality of Lages, Santa Catarina state. A total of 14, 5x5m, plots (six plots in CT sector and eight in ST sector) were allocated, where all tree species regenerative individual with circumference at breast height smaller than 15cm and height higher than 25cm was measured (diameter at soil level) and identified. The richest families were: Myrtaceae (nine), Solanaceae (six) and Aquifoliaceae (four). The Shannon Diversity Index in ST and CT sectors were respectively 2.73 and 2.31. The species with the highest importance values in CT sector were Solanum variabile, Piptocarpha angustifolia, Mimosa scabrella, Jacaranda puberula and Solanum pseudoquina. In ST sector, the species with highest importance values were Myrsine lorentziana, Casearia decandra, Cinnamodendron dinisii, Drimys brasiliensis and Ilex paraguariensis. The results showed that the synchronized bamboo die-off influenced the spatial variation in the floristic and structural descriptors of the tree species natural regeneration.
