Resumo Este artigo aborda o histórico da parceria Brasil-Suécia em botânica e a contribuição de Anders Fredrik Regnell e outros coletores botânicos para o conhecimento da flora brasileira com coleções significativas na Suécia. A importância do herbário de Estocolmo (S) é amplamente reconhecida por suas coleções de plantas brasileiras, uma das maiores do mundo. A maioria das coleções do Brasil data do período compreendido entre a segunda metade do século XIX e início do século XX. Dentre os principais coletores da flora brasileira dessa fase, cuja maior parte de coleções estão em Estocolmo estão os suecos Anders Regnell, Gustaf Malme, Per Dusen, Carl Lindman e muitos outros. O herbário também abriga coleções substanciais de August Glaziou, grande contribuidor para o conhecimento da flora do estado de Goiás, e Adolf Ducke, pioneiro na taxonomia de espécies de árvores amazônicas. A cooperação entre Brasil e Suécia está sendo renovada através da parceria entre o Museu de História Natural de Estocolmo e o Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro através do Programa Reflora, que permitirá o repatriamento de espécimes brasileiros alojados em Estocolmo.

Abstract This article visits the history of Brazil-Sweden's partnership in botany and the contribution of Anders Fredrik Regnell and other botanical collectors to the knowledge of Brazilian flora. The importance of the herbarium of Stockholm (S) is widely recognized for its collections of Brazilian plants, one of the largest in the world. The majority of the collections from Brazil date from the period between the second half of nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. The main collectors of Brazilian flora from that phase, whose bulk of collections are in Stockholm are Anders Regnell, Gustaf Malme, Per Dusén, Carl Lindman and many others sponsored by the Regnellian fund. The herbarium also houses substantial collections of August Glaziou, a great contributor to the knowledge of the flora of state of Goiás, and Adolf Ducke, pioneer in the taxonomy of Amazonian tree species. The cooperation between Brazil and Sweden is currently being renewed through Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden and the Reflora Program, allowing repatriation of Brazilian specimens housed in Stockholm.

No presente estudo avaliamos as variações na composição de espécies das comunidades de trepadeiras abordando dez inventários florísticos realizados em fragmentos de floresta estacional semidecidual do sudeste do Brasil. Um destes inventários é inédito e foi realizado especialmente para o presente estudo. Comparamos este levantamento a outros nove inventários florísticos de trepadeiras realizados em outras florestas do sudeste para investigar aspectos como riqueza, similaridade, distribuição de espécies e mecanismos de escalada. Ao todo foram encontradas 355 espécies, pertencentes a 145 gêneros e 43 famílias. As dez famílias mais ricas Bignoniaceae (45 espécies), Fabaceae (42), Malpighiaceae (36), Asteraceae (31), Apocynaceae (29), Sapindaceae (28), Convolvulaceae (21), Cucurbitaceae (14), Passifloraceae (10), e Euphorbiaceae (8) representaram 74,4% do total de espécies encontrado. Considerando os mecanismos de escalada, observamos o predomínio de espécies volúveis (178 espécies ou 50,1%), sobre espécies com gavinhas (121 espécies, 34,1%), e apoiadoras (56 espécies, 15,8%). A porcentagem de espécies exclusivas, i.e. aquelas que ocorreram em apenas uma das localidades estudadas, foi de 49,3% do total amostrado e pode ser considerada alta. Além disso, a similaridade entre as florestas analisadas foi bastante baixa e a contribuição das espécies de trepadeiras para a diversidade de plantas lenhosas nestas áreas foi bastante elevada em algumas áreas, chegando a 52,5%. Estes resultados indicaram a importância das comunidades de trepadeiras para a diversidade vegetal nas florestas semideciduais do sudeste do Brasil, aumentando a valor de conservação desses remanescentes florestais.

In this study we evaluated floristic composition patterns of communities of climbers within ten inventories carried out in semideciduous forest fragments of southeastern Brazil. One of the inventories is original, being carried out for the present study in Ribeirão Cachoeira forest, Campinas, São Paulo State, Southeastern Brazil. This inventory was then pooled together to other nine climbers' inventories made in other forests of Southeastern Brazil to form a data base, which was examined regarding species richness, similarity, species distribution and climbing methods. The total number of species obtained was 355, belonging to 145 genera and 43 families. The ten most diverse families Bignoniaceae (45 species), Fabaceae (42), Malpighiaceae (36), Asteraceae (31), Apocynaceae (29), Sapindaceae (28), Convolvulaceae (21), Cucurbitaceae (14), Passifloraceae (10), and Euphorbiaceae (8) contributed to 74.4% of the total number of species recorded. The commonest climbing method in the studied sites was main stem or branch twining, accounting for 178 species or 50.1% of the total, the second commonest was tendril climbing (121 species, 34.1%), and the least, scrambling (56 species, 15.8%). We found a high percentage of exclusive species i.e., those occurring in only one forest site, which accounted for 49.3% of the total recorded. The mean similarity among forest sites (30%) may be considered low. The climbing species contribution to the total wood plant richness recorded on the forests sites was very high in some of the sites (up to 52.5%). These results indicated the importance of climber communities to plant diversity for semideciduous forests in Southeastern Brazil, enhancing the regional diversity and the conservation value of these forest remnants.

Foi realizado inventário florístico das árvores e arbustos da mata Ribeirão Cachoeira (233,7ha, altitude 650m, coordenadas 46°55'58''W, 22°50'13''S), o segundo maior e mais bem conservado fragmento de floresta estacional semidecidual do município de Campinas, SP. O solo característico é o Podzólico Vermelho Amarelo e o clima é Cwag' de Köppen. As coletas foram feitas durante o período de agosto/1996 a setembro/1997. Foram incluídos apenas indivíduos férteis com perímetro a altura do peito igual ou superior a 9cm. Foram encontradas 175 espécies de 119 gêneros e 49 famílias. As famílias mais ricas foram Myrtaceae (14 espécies), Rutaceae e Fabaceae (13), Caesalpiniaceae (11), Solanaceae (9) e Rubiaceae (8). Algumas espécies foram encontradas pela primeira vez na região: Tachigali multijuga Benth. e Schoepfia brasiliensis A.DC. A floração foi maior entre agosto e outubro. A frutificação foi maior nos meses de agosto a novembro. A maioria das espécies encontradas é zoocórica (58%), as anemocóricas foram 23% e as autocóricas 19%. Compararam-se as relações florísticas desta mata com outros 20 levantamentos do Estado. Os resultados obtidos indicaram a formação de dois grupos distintos. O mais homogêneo deles inclui as florestas do município de Campinas, mostrando que, possivelmente, são remanescentes de uma vegetação originalmente contínua.

An inventory of the woody flora (trees and shrubs), was carried out in the Ribeirão Cachoeria forest (233.7ha, 650m high, 46°55'58''W, 22°50'13''S), the second largest and best conserved fragment of semideciduous tropical forest in the municipality of Campinas, São Paulo state, Southeastern Brazil. The soil is a red-yellow podsol and the climate is of Köppen's Cwag type. Collections were made from August/1996 to September/1997. Only fertile individuals with a perimeter at breast height of 9cm or greater were included in the survey. One hyndred and seventhy five species were identified, belonging to 119 genera and 49 families. The most important families were Myrtaceae (14 species), Rutaceae and Fabaceae (13), Caesalpiniaceae (11), Solanaceae (9), and Rubiaceae (8). Some species were found for the first time in the region: Tachigali multijuga Benth. and Schoepfia brasiliensis A.DC. The flowering peak for most species was from August to October. Maximum fruit production was from August to November. Most species are zoochoric (58%), but 23% were anemochoric and 19% autochoric. The floristic composition of this forest and another 20 forests from São Paulo state were compared. The results obtained indicate the existence of distinct groups of forests. The most homogeneus group contains forests from the municipality of Campinas with similarity of 40%. This suggests that these forests are possibly fragments of a original continuous forest in the Campinas region.
