Resumo Os compostos nitroaromáticos possuem importante relevância econômica e industrial fazendo parte de diversos insumos como corantes, tintas, agroquímicos e explosivos. Na fabricação do explosivo 2,4,6 trinitrotoluneo (TNT), há a formação de águas residuárias contaminadas de difícil tratamento por conter, dentre outros compostos, elevadas concentrações de 2,4 e 2,6-trinitrotolueno (DNT). Neste trabalho foi estudada a aplicação de Processos oxidativos avançados do tipo O3/UV em integração sequencial com material catalítico a base de escória de ferro metálico (SZVI) e matriz mineral, para o tratamento de um efluente industrial oriundo da indústria de explosivos contaminado com compostos nitroaromáticos. Foram estudados dois tipos de composição de matriz mineral, caulinita (Kau) e pedra pomes em pó (Pum), tendo sido observado, nas condições de melhor eficiência (O3/UV-SZVI/Kau), 100% de remoção tanto dos compostos dinitroaomáticos quanto de ozônio residual. Por outro lado, a foto-ozonização isoladamente, foi capaz de remover apenas parcialmente estes componentes, tendo sido observados 38% de remoção de DNT e 3,2 mg/L de O3 residual, comprovando a importância da integração com a matriz catalítica para um tratamento mais efetivo do efluente em estudo.

Abstract Nitroaromatic compounds have significant economic and industrial relevance in various inputs such as dyes, inks, agrochemicals, and explosives. In the manufacture of the explosive 2,4,6 trinitrotoluene (TNT), there is the formation of contaminated wastewater that is difficult to treat because it contains, among other compounds, high concentrations of 2,4 and 2,6-trinitrotoluene (DNT). In this work, the application of advanced oxidation processes of the O3/UV type was studied in sequential integration with catalytic material based on metallic iron slag (SZVI) and mineral matrix to treat an industrial effluent from the explosives industry contaminated with compounds nitroaromatics. Two types of mineral matrix composition were studied, kaolinite (Kau) and pumice powder (Pum), having been observed in the conditions of best efficiency (O3/UV-SZVI/Kau) 100% removal of both nitroaromatic compounds and residual ozone. On the other hand, photo-ozonation alone could only partially remove these components, with 38% DNT removal and 3.2 mg/L residual O3 observed, proving the importance of integration with the catalytic matrix for more effective treatment of the studied effluent.

Resumo Os fungos pleurotus são basidiomicetos que se destacam na degradação de compostos orgânicos de natureza recalcitrante, como derivados de lignina e compostos fenólicos. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar comparativamente a capacidade dos fungos Pleurotus ostreatus POS 560 e Pleurotus floridae PSP1 na degradação de 2,4 e 2,6-dinitrotolueno (DNTs) em efluente da indústria de explosivos. A caracterização indicou 318 mg L-1 de DNTs, 246 mg L-1 de DQO e fator de toxicidade para Daphnia magna correspondente a 8. A condução de um estudo multivariado estimou a influência das variáveis pH (5.0 e 6.0), concentração de co-substrato (10 e 20 g L-1 de glicose) e espécies do fungo Pleurotus (ostreatus e floridae) sobre a degradação de DNTs, tendo indicado que as variáveis Fungo e [Glicose] se mostraram significativas (p<0.05) apresentando efeitos da ordem de +4.45±0.26 e -1.14±0.26, respectivamente. A reprodução das melhores condições de eficiência (P. floridae; pH 6,0 e 10 g L-1 de glicose) em frascos agitados (100 rpm, 26oC) foi capaz de promover em 14 dias de tratamento remoções de matéria orgânica e fator de toxicidade em níveis da ordem de 55 e 50%, respectivamente, além da completa degradação de DNTs a qual ocorreu nas primeiras 120 horas de tratamento, período durante o qual também foi caracterizada atividade máxima das enzimas peroxidase e Mn-peroxidase, sugerindo alto potencial do bioprocesso em estudo para remediação de efluentes contaminados com compostos nitroaromáticos.

Abstract Pleurotus fungi are basidiomycetes that stand out in the degradation of recalcitrant organic compounds such as lignin derivatives and phenolic compounds. The aim of this study was to make a comparative evaluation of the capacity of the Pleurotus ostreatus POS 560 and Pleurotus floridae PSP1 fungi in the degradation of 2,4 and 2,6-dinitrotoluene (DNTs) in effluent from an explosive factory. The characterization of the effluent indicated 318 mg L-1 of DNTs, 246 mg L-1 of COD and toxicity factor for Daphnia magna corresponding to 8. The conduct of a multivariate study estimated the influence of the variables pH (5.0 and 6.0), co-substrate concentration (10 and 20 g L-1 of glucose) and species of the fungus Pleurotus (ostreatus and floridae) on the degradation of DNTs, indicating that the variables Fungus and [Glucose] were significant (p <0.05) presenting effects in the order of + 4.45 ± 0.26 and -1.14 ± 0.26, respectively. The reproduction of the best efficiency conditions (P. floridae; pH 6.0 and 10 g L-1 of glucose) in agitated flasks (100 rpm, 26oC) was able to carry out, within 14 days of treatment, the removal of organic matter and toxicity factor in levels on the order of 55 and 50%, respectively, in addition to the complete degradation of DNTs which occurred in the first 120 hours of treatment. In this period, the maximum activity of the peroxidase and Mn-peroxidase enzymes was also characterized, suggesting high potential of the bioprocess under study for remediation of effluents contaminated with nitroaromatic compounds.

RESUMO Diferentemente dos contaminantes orgânicos, os metais pesados não são biodegradáveis e tendem a se acumular nos organismos vivos e também são reconhecidos por serem tóxicos ou carcinogênicos. A utilização de nanopartículas de ferro zero valente (nFVZ) é relatada como uma técnica alternativa e de elevado potencial para remediação in situ e ex situ de matrizes contaminadas com este metal, principalmente devido à sua grande área superficial ativa e significativa capacidade de adsorção, podendo se consolidar em um método simples e eficiente de tratamento. Neste estudo foram sintetizadas partículas de Ferro Valencia Zero (FVZ) pelo método de redução química utilizando o sulfato ferroso hexa hidratado (FeSO4.7H2O) e Borohidreto de Sódio (NaBH4) com posterior agregação a partículas de carvão ativado em pó (PAC), formando o adsorvente PAC-FVZ, o qual foi caracterizado pelas técnicas de DRX e MEV, as quais revelaram a integração do catalisador à matriz de PAC. Finalmente, estudos cinéticos desenvolvidos revelaram que a cinética de adsorção se adaptou melhor a um modelo de pseudo segunda ordem, sendo que as isotermas foram melhor representadas pelo modelo de Freundlich e os resultados termodinâmicos demonstraram que a reação de adsorção ocorreu através de um processo espontâneo com interação endotérmica entre o Cr (VI) e o PAC-FVZ com aumento na aleatoriedade do sistema.

Abstract Unlike organic contaminants, heavy metals are not biodegradable and tend to accumulate in living organisms; they are also recognized for being toxic or carcinogenic. The use of nanoparticles of zero-valent iron (nZVI) is reported as an alternative technique with high potential for in situ and ex situ remediation of contaminated matrices with this metal, mainly due to its large active surface area and significant adsorption capacity to consolidate into a simple and efficient method of treatment. In this study, ZVI particles were synthesized by the chemical reduction method using hydrated ferrous sulfate (FeSO4.7H2O) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) with subsequent aggregation to powdered activated carbon (PAC), forming the adsorbent PAC-ZVI, which was characterized by the techniques of XRD and SEM, which revealed the integration of the catalyst to the activated carbon matrix. Finally, developed kinetic studies revealed that the adsorption kinetics was better adapted to a pseudo second order model, the isotherms were better represented by the Freundlich model and the thermodynamic results showed that the adsorption reaction occurred through a spontaneous process with endothermic interaction between Cr (VI) and PAC-ZVI with increase in the randomness of the system.

In this work the potentiality of reductive-oxidative processes based on zero-valent iron was studied aiming the degradation of nitroaromatic compounds and the remediation of residues from the explosive industry. The reductive process was applied as a continuous treatment system, using steel-wool as zero-valent iron source. The process permitted an almost total degradation of nitrobenzene, nitrophenol, nitrotoluene, dinitrotoluene and trinitrotoluene, probably with generation of the respective amine-derivative. The yellow-water residue, containing soluble trinitrotoluene, was notably modified by the reductive process, a fact that permitted a substantial enhancement of its biodegradability. Furthermore, the subsequent photo-Fenton process allowed TOC removal of about 80%.
