ABSTRACT Nitrogen (N) fertilizer management is a key factor in the success of maize crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of second-crop maize to N applied exclusively as topdressing or at planting + topdressing. Five experiments were conducted in areas in southwestern Goiás in 2019 and 2020 to evaluate N application rates of 0 and 30 kg ha-1 at planting, combined with five N rates applied as topdressing at the maize V3 stage over a total of 0, 75, 150, 225, and 300 kg ha-1. Dry matter production in the V6 or V9 stage and yield parameters at harvest were evaluated. N application did not affect the number of grain rows per ear but increased the number of grains per row and, particularly, grain weight. The crop responded positively to increases in the total N rate in 4 of the 5 experiments: in 1 of these experiments, N fertilizer application at planting contributed to an increase in the efficiency of topdressing fertilization, resulting in a higher maize yield with a lower total N rate; in the other 3, a positive maize response to N occurred when total N was applied as topdressing at V3. However, the highest mean maize grain yield (8,233 kg ha-1) was found in the trial that showed no response to N fertilizer application - probably due to the better chemical fertility conditions of the area combined with an adequate distribution of rainfall, considering the multiple factors involved in N application recommendations.

RESUMO O manejo de nitrogênio (N) na cultura do milho é fator chave para o sucesso de seu cultivo, de modo que se objetivou com esse estudo avaliar a resposta da cultura, em segunda safra, à doses de N aplicadas exclusivamente em cobertura ou na adubação de base (semeadura) complementada com a adubação de cobertura. Para tal, em 2019 e 2020 foram realizados cinco experimentos em áreas da região Sudoeste do Estado de Goiás, testando 0 e 30 kg ha-1 de N aplicados na base combinados com cinco doses totais de N (0, 75, 150, 225 e 300 kg ha-1) completadas em cobertura, quando as plantas estavam em estádio V3. Avaliou-se a produção de massa seca na fase vegetativa V6 ou V9, e, por ocasião da colheita, os parâmetros produtivos. Verificou que a aplicação de N não interfere no número de fileiras de grãos, mas aumenta o número de grãos por fileira e, principalmente, o peso de grãos. Em 4 dos 5 ensaios, a cultura respondeu positivamente ao incremento da dose total de N; em 1 desses, a adubação de base contribuiu para aumento da eficiência da adubação de cobertura, de modo que a produtividade do milho foi maior e atingida com uma dose total de N menor. Nos outros 3, respostas positivas foram observadas quando da aplicação total do N em cobertura e em dose única. A maior produtividade média de grãos de milho (8.233 kg ha-1), no entanto, ocorreu justamente no ensaio com ausência de resposta à adubação nitrogenada - provavelmente devido às melhores condições de fertilidade química da área aliada à adequada distribuição das chuvas, considerando assim múltiplos fatores para N recomendações de aplicação.

RESUMO Resíduos da produção de peru frequentemente são utilizados como fertilizantes em pastagens próximas a regiões produtoras. Esses resíduos podem contribuir para a elevação dos estoques de carbono e nitrogênio no solo. Neste estudo objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos acumulados de nove aplicações de doses de cama de peru nas frações e estoques de C e N em um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico, sob pastejo rotacionado. A área experimental foi dividida em 16 piquetes de 0.5 ha cada, e cultivada com Urochloa decumbens em sistema de pastejo rotativo. Os tratamentos consistiram em doses acumuladas de cama de peru (38.3; 54.8 e 69.2 Mg ha−1), com aplicações realizadas entre 2008 e 2017, além de um tratamento controle, sem aplicação desse material. Os estoques de carbono orgânico total (TOC), nitrogênio total (TN) no solo aumentaram à medida que se aumentou as doses de cama de peru, chegando a incrementos, na camada de 0-0.2 m, de 11.2 Mg ha−1 e 1.03 Mg ha−1, respectivamente, quando comparados ao tratamento controle. Na mesma camada de 0-0.2 m, os máximos incrementos nos estoques de carbono na matéria orgânica particulada (POC) e nitrogênio na matéria orgânica particulada (N-POM) foram obtidos com as doses totais estimadas de 62 e 66 Mg ha−1, respectivamente. Além de aumentar a quantidade, o uso da cama de peru resultou em melhoria da qualidade do carbono presente no solo, uma vez que o índice de manejo de carbono, na camada de 0-0.2 m, foi aumentado em 124 %, quando do uso da maior dose acumulada.

ABSTRACT Residues from turkey production are often used as fertilizers in pastures near producing regions. These residues can contribute to the increase of carbon and nitrogen stocks in the soil. This study aimed to evaluate the cumulative effects of nine applications of turkey litter rates on C and N fractions and stocks in a Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico (Oxisol) cultivated under rotational grazing. The experimental area was divided into 16 pickets of 0.5 ha each and cultivated with Urochloa decumbens in a rotational grazing system. The treatments consisted of accumulated doses of turkey litter (38.3; 54.8 and 69.2 Mg ha−1), with applications carried out between 2008 and 2017, in addition to a control treatment, without application of this material. After nine years of application, total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) stocks in the soil increased as turkey litter rates increased, reaching increments in the 0-0.2 m layer of 11.2 Mg ha−1 and 1.03 Mg ha−1, respectively, when compared to the control treatment. In the same 0-0.2 m layer, the maximum increments in carbon stock in particulate organic matter (POC) and nitrogen stock in particulate organic matter (N-POM) were obtained with the estimated total doses of 62 and 66 Mg ha−1, respectively. In addition to increasing the amount, the use of turkey litter improved the quality of the carbon present in the soil, since the carbon management index, in the 0-0.2 m layer, was increased by 124% when using the highest accumulated dose.

Resumo O fósforo (P) é um dos nutrientes mais exigidos pelas plantas, principalmente, na fase inicial, no entanto, existem espécies cujos efeitos de crescimento promovidos pelo fósforo ainda são desconhecidos. Portanto, este trabalho teve como objetivo testar se níveis crescentes de fósforo influenciam no comportamento fisiológico e morfológico e na qualidade das mudas de Guazuma ulmifolia. Para tanto, as mudas foram cultivadas em substrato produzido apenas com LATOSSOLO VERMELHO distrófico, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado e submetido a cinco níveis de fósforo (0, 100, 200, 300 e 400 mg dm-3 ). Aos 120 dias, as avaliações biométricas e fisiológicas foram realizadas, e os índices de clorofila, biomassa, relações alométricas, Índice de Qualidade de Dickson e o teor de fósforo foram determinados. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância pelo teste F e posteriormente à análise de regressão e correlação linear de Pearson. A fertilização com fósforo promoveu ganhos significativos (p ? 0,05) à todas as variáveis morfológicas e fisiológicas, exceto para a área foliar específica e relações alométricas. O conteúdo de fósforo foi positivamente correlacionado com todas as variáveis testadas. Com base nos resultados obtidos, conclui-se que as mudas responderam positivamente à fertilização com fósforo. Além disso, a fertilização com fósforo promoveu melhor desempenho fisiológico e morfológico e maior qualidade das mudas.

Abstract Phosphorus (P) is one of the nutrients most required by plants, especially in the initial phase, however, there are species whose growth effects promoted by phosphorus are still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to test whether increasing levels of phosphorus influence the physiological and morphological behavior and the quality of seedlings of Guazuma ulmifolia. For that purpose, the seedlings were grown in a substrate produced only with Dystrophic RED LATOSOL (Oxisol) under a completely randomized design and subjected to five levels of phosphorus (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg dm-3 ). At 120 days, the biometric and physiological evaluations were performed, and the chlorophyll indices, biomass, allometric relationships, Dickson Quality Index, and the phosphorus content were determined. The data were subjected to analysis of variance by the F-test and subsequently to regression analysis and Pearson’s linear correlation. Phosphorus fertilization promoted significant gains (p ? 0.05) for all variables morphological e physiological, except for the specific leaf area and allometric relationships. The phosphorus content was positively correlated with all tested variables. Based on the results obtained, it is concluded that the seedlings responded positively to phosphorus fertilization. Furthermore, phosphorus fertilization promoted better physiological and morphological performance and higher seedling quality.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar de que forma as mudas de Guazuma ulmifolia respondem a doses nitrogenadas, tendo como fonte de nitrogênio (N) a ureia. O cultivo das mudas ocorreu em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, as quais foram submetidas a cinco doses (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mg dm-3) de N. Aos 120 dias de cultivo foram realizadas avaliações biométricas, fisiológicas, acúmulo de biomassa, razões alométricas, índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD), teor, acúmulo e eficiência do uso de N (EUN) na parte aérea das mudas. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância e regressão. Além disso, o coeficiente de correlação de Pearson também foi analisado. As doses de N promoveram significativamente (p≤0,05) o aumento do teor de N na parte aérea das mudas. Por outro lado, registrou-se a redução significativa do acúmulo de N, de variáveis fisiológicas, crescimento, biomassa, IQD e EUN, que culminou em correlação negativa com o fornecimento crescente de N. Doses de N muito elevadas, tendo como fonte a ureia, foram prejudiciais para as mudas de Guazuma ulmifolia. As doses entre 20 e 38,8 mg dm-3 de N, de modo geral, foram as que promoveram os melhores resultados.

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine how Guazuma ulmifolia seedlings respond to nitrogen doses, with urea as a nitrogen source (N). The seedlings were cultivated in a completely randomized design, which were subjected to five doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3) of N. At 120 days of cultivation, biometric, physiological, biomass accumulation, allometric ratios, Dickson's quality index (IQD), content, accumulation and N efficiency use (NUE) in the aerial part of the seedlings. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and regression. In addition, Pearson's correlation coefficient was also analyzed. The N doses significantly promoted (p≤0.05) the increase in the N content in the aerial part of the seedlings. On the other hand, there was a significant reduction in the N accumulation, of physiological variables, growth, biomass, IQD and NUE, which resulted in a negative correlation with the increasing N supply. Very high N doses, having as source the urea, were harmful to the seedlings of Guazuma ulmifolia. The doses between 20 and 38.8 mg dm-3 of N, in general, were those that promoted the best results.

RESUMO A calagem é benéfica para as plantas por promover a elevação do pH, neutralização do alumínio tóxico, aumentar o fornecimento de cálcio (Ca²+) e magnésio (Mg²+) e propiciar maior sistema radicular. No entanto, sabe-se que as espécies, principalmente nativas do Cerrado, respondem de formas distintas a essa técnica. Diante do exposto, o objetivo deste estudo foi determinar de que forma mudas de Hymenaea stigonocarpa (“Jatobá-do-Cerrado”) respondem a calagem em Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico. As plantas foram cultivadas em vasos de quatro litros, submetidas a diferentes saturações de bases (solo natural, 30, 45, 60 e 75% de V) e mantidas em casa de vegetação. Foram avaliadas a biometria, biomassa, teor nutricional e parâmetros fisiológicos. Houve diferença para o teor de Ca²+ e Mg²+ nas folhas e caule e isso culminou na redução significativa da condutância estomática, transpiração, concentração interna de CO2 e a relação concentração interna e externa de CO2, o que levou a redução do investimento em crescimento e biomassa. Diante dos resultados obtidos, para a produção de mudas de H. stigonocarpa em Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico não há necessidade de realizar calagem.

ABSTRACT Liming is beneficial for plants as it promotes pH elevation, neutralization of toxic aluminum, increase in calcium (Ca²+) and magnesium (Mg²+) supply, and provides greater root systems. However, it is known that different species, mainly those native to the Cerrado, respond in different ways to this technique. Given the above, the objective of this study was to determine how Hymenaea stigonocarpa (“Jatobá-do-Cerrado”) seedlings respond to liming in Dystrophic Red Latosol. The plants were cultivated in four-liter pots, submitted to different base saturation (natural soil, 30, 45, 60 and 75% V) and maintained in a greenhouse. Biometrics, biomass, nutritional content and physiological parameters were evaluated. A difference in Ca²+ and Mg²+ contents between leaves and stems was observed, leading to significant reductions in stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal CO2 concentration and internal and external CO2 concentration ratios, resulting in a reduction of the investment in growth and biomass. Given these results, there is no need for liming in the production of H. stigonocarpa seedlings in a Dystrophic Red Latosol.

ABSTRACT Annona crassiflora Mart. presents medicinal and food potential, and is also used in the recovery of degraded areas, however, little is known about its nutritional requirements. The aim of this work was to analyze the initial growth of A. crassiflora submitted to nitrogen and potassium fertilization. The experiment was conducted with a complete randomized block design with four replicates, each consisting of five nitrogen and potassium doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3). Results were submitted to regression analysis. The species showed significant response for nitrogen fertilization regarding biometric variables, biomass, DQI and nutritional contents at doses of 100 to 200 mg dm-3. On the other hand, potassium only influenced DQI, nutritional content and accumulation of A. crassiflora seedlings.

RESUMO O sorgo biomassa [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] é uma fonte renovável muito promissora para a produção de energia obtida por processos de cogeração e fermentação. Alguns aspectos do manejo da adubação para esta cultura, no entanto, devem ser melhor entendidos. Objetivou-se determinar a marcha de acúmulo de massa seca e de macro e micronutrientes em estádios fenológicos da cultura do sorgo biomassa (Palo Alto 2562), bem como estabelecer a ordem de acúmulo. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. A fim de determinar a curva de acúmulo de massa seca e nutrientes, as plantas foram amostradas em nove estádios fenológicos (V1, V3, V5, V7, V9, V11, emborrachamento, florescimento e colheita). Analisou-se o acúmulo de massa seca e de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn. O máximo acúmulo de massa seca foi de 24.853 kg ha-1. O K foi o nutriente absorvido em maior quantidade (447 kg ha-1), o que demonstra a alta capacidade da planta em absorver tal nutriente. O N foi o segundo nutriente mais acumulado pela planta (289 kg ha-1), e o seu padrão de absorção sugere que o seu fornecimento deve ser realizado até o estádio V7. Conclui-se, ainda, que a ordem de extração e acúmulo de macro e micronutrientes para a cultura do sorgo biomassa é a seguinte: K > N > Ca > Mg > S > P > Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu.

ABSTRACT Biomass sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a very promising renewable source to produce energy obtained by cogeneration and fermentation processes. However, some aspects of the fertilizer management for this crop should be better understood. This study aimed to determine the accumulation progress of dry matter and macro and micronutrients in phenological stages of the biomass sorghum (Palo Alto 2562) crop, as well as to establish the accumulation order. The experiment was performed in a randomized block design, with four replicates. In order to determine the dry matter and nutrient accumulation curves, the plants were sampled in nine phenological stages (V1, V3, V5, V7, V9, V11, booting, flowering and harvest). Dry matter and N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn accumulations were analyzed. The maximum dry matter accumulation was 24,853 kg ha-1. K was the nutrient absorbed in the highest amount (447 kg ha-1), what demonstrates the high capacity of the plant to absorb this nutrient. N was the second most accumulated nutrient by the plant (289 kg ha-1) and its absorption pattern suggests that it should be supplied up to the V7 stage. It was also possible to conclude that the order of extraction and accumulation of macro and micronutrients for the biomass sorghum crops is: K > N > Ca > Mg > S > P > Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu.

RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do estresse salino e da adubação silicatada no crescimento e valor nutritivo da Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG5. O experimento foi em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, sob o esquema fatorial 4 x 5 x 3, com quatro repetições, onde os tratamentos foram quatro concentrações de cloreto de sódio (0; 20; 40 e 60 mmol L-1), com cinco concentrações de silício (0; 1; 2; 3 e 4 mmol L-1) na solução nutritiva e três épocas de corte (30; 60 e 90 dias). A concentração de 4 mmol L-1 de silício minimizou os efeitos deletérios do cloreto de sódio na rebrota. Entretanto, as aplicações dos níveis de silício não foram suficientes para atenuar os efeitos prejudiciais do cloreto de sódio no valor nutritivo e na produção de massa seca da Brachiaria brizantha cv. MG5.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of salt stress and silicon fertiliser on growth and nutritional value in Brachiaria brizantha ‘MG5’. The experimental design was completely randomised in a 4 x 5 x 3 factorial scheme with four replications; the treatments consisted of four concentrations of sodium chloride (0, 20, 40 and 60 mmol L-1), with five concentrations of silicon (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 mmol L-1) in the nutrient solution, and three cutting periods (30, 60 and 90 days). The concentration of 4 mmol L-1 silicon minimised the detrimental effects of the sodium chloride on regrowth. However, the levels of silicon application were not sufficient to reduce the harmful effects of the sodium chloride on nutritional value or on dry-matter production in Brachiaria brizantha ‘MG5’.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar as características nutricionais, os cortes histológicos e a digestibilidade in vitro de plantas de milho colhidas no estágio de 90 dias após o plantio. Os tratamentos compreenderam cinco tipos de milho: um híbrido AG1051 e quatro cultivares de polinização aberta, e duas estratégias de colheita: milho planta inteira e plantas de milho sem espigas. As variedades de milho utilizadas foram: Alagoano, Branquinha, São Luiz e Viçosence. Os tratamentos foram ajustados em um delineamento em blocos ao acaso com três repetições em um esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com as variedades como parcelas principais e as estratégias de colheita como subparcelas. Dentre as variedades selecionadas, as que obtiveram os maiores valores para a PB no milho sem espiga foram as cultivares Alagoano e Viçosence. Para o NDT no milho sem espiga, as variedades que obtiveram os melhores valores (P<0,05) foram o AG1051, a Branquinha e o Viçosence, obtendo estas o maior potencial forrageiro diante as outras cultivares. Para o FDN e DIVFDN no milho sem espiga, a variedade que obteve os maiores valores (P<0,05) foi a Alagoano. Pode-se concluir que, sob o ponto de vista nutricional e estágio de colheita, todas variedades estudadas no experimento podem ser usadas na alimentação de ruminantes, com ou sem espigas.

SUMMARY The objective of this study was evaluate the nutritional value, histological sections and in vitro digestibility of maize plants harvested at the stage 90 days after planting. The treatments comprised five maize plant types: a hybrid AG1051 and four open-pollinated cultivars, and two harvest approaches: whole maize plants and maize plants without cobs. The maize varieties used were: Alagoano, Branquinha, St. Louis and Viçosence. The treatments were fitted into a randomized block design with three replicates in a split plot scheme, with maize varieties as main plots and harvest approaches as subplots. Among the varieties selected, those that had higher values for CP in maize plants without cobs were the Alagoano and Viçosence cultivars. For NDT in maize plants without cobs the varieties that had best results (P<0.05) were the AG1051, Branquinha and Viçosence. These varieties presented the greatest potential for forage production. For NDF and IVNDFD in maize plants without cobs the variety that had higher values (P<0.05) was the Alagoano. It can be concluded that, under the nutritional value and harvest stage, all the varieties studied in the trial can be used for ruminant feeding, with or without cobs.

As plantas diferem quanto à preferência pela forma de N mineral a ser absorvida e metabolizada. No arroz, essa preferência parece variar com o estádio de crescimento da cultura. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito de proporções de N-nitrato e de N-amônio sobre o crescimento e a produção de grãos das cultivares de arroz de terras altas BRS Colosso e BRSMG Conai em solução nutritiva, em dois experimentos, um com cada cultivar. Em ambos os experimentos o delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas no tempo. As parcelas primárias foram constituídas por cinco relações N-nitrato (N-NO3-):N-amônio (N-NH4+) (100:00, 80:20, 60:40, 50:50 e 40:60), e as subparcelas, por estádios de crescimento do arroz (início do perfilhamento, diferenciação do primórdio floral e início da emissão de panículas). O fornecimento de N na forma exclusiva de nitrato, ou de amônio em maiores proporções que o nitrato, diminuiu a produção de matéria seca das cultivares de arroz, principalmente na época da emissão de panículas, alterando também a produção de grãos. A máxima produção de matéria seca da parte aérea das cultivares de arroz ocorreu para proporções de nitrato entre 58 e 68 %. Para a produção de grãos, os máximos foram obtidos com proporções de nitrato entre 75 e 78 %. A causa do menor crescimento e da produção das cultivares de arroz quando se forneceu apenas nitrato foi o acúmulo excessivo dessa forma nos tecidos das plantas na fase inicial do seu crescimento, devido à baixa atividade da redutase do nitrato nessa fase. Entretanto, houve efeito prejudicial também pelo excesso de amônio, quando este se encontrava em maiores proporções que o nitrato na solução nutritiva.

Plants differ in preference for mineral nitrogen forms for uptake and metabolism. In rice plants, this preference can be associated with the growth stage. This study aimed to evaluate the growth, N nutrition and yield of the rice cultivars BRS Colosso and BRSMG Conai in nutrient solution with different ratios of nitrate and ammonium. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design in split plots with four replications. The plots were represented by five N-nitrate (N-NO3-): N-ammonium (N-NH4+) ratios (100:00, 80:20, 60:40, 50:50, and 40:60) and the subplots by the three growth stages. N supply in the exclusive form of nitrate, or ammonium at higher proportions than nitrate, decreased dry matter, especially during panicle emission, affecting the yield. The maximum dry matter production of rice cultivars shoots occurred at nitrate rates between 58 and 68 %. The maximum grain yield was obtained at nitrate ratios between 75 and 78 %. The excessive accumulation of nitrate in plant tissues due to low activity of nitrate reductase in the initial growth phase, and excess of ammonium were the main causes of decline in rice growth and yield, when nitrate was the only N form or when ammonium was used at higher proportions than nitrate in the nutrient solution.

Em lavouras sob plantio direto ou em sistemas integração lavoura-pecuária, é comum o cultivo do feijoeiro em sucessão a gramíneas. Em função do sistema radicular diferenciado e da secreção de compostos orgânicos diversos pelas raízes e pela decomposição da palhada, as gramíneas podem alterar a disponibilidade de P no solo e a aquisição e aproveitamento de fontes de P aparentemente de baixa eficiência agronômica para as culturas em sucessão. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a utilização do P e a produção do feijoeiro cultivado em sucessão às gramíneas forrageiras adubadas com diferentes fontes desse nutriente. Para isso, conduziram-se dois experimentos em solos distintos, um em Cambissolo e outro em Latossolo, utilizando-se vasos com 4 dm³ de solo. O delineamento experimental, para cada solo, foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2, sendo cinco tratamentos de cobertura dos solos, representados pelo cultivo prévio de quatro gramíneas forrageiras (Brachiaria decumbens - braquiária; Sorghum bicolor - sorgo; Brachiaria brizantha - braquiarão; Pennisetum glaucum - milheto) mais o solo sem cultivo prévio e duas fontes de P de diferentes solubilidades (superfosfato triplo - SFT e fosfato reativo de Arad - FRA), com quatro repetições. As gramíneas forrageiras foram colhidas na fase de pré-florescimento, sendo o feijoeiro cultivado em seguida sobre as suas raízes e palhadas. Observou-se, de maneira geral, em ambos os solos adubados com a fonte de P de menor solubilidade (FRA), que a sucessão de culturas proporcionou maiores crescimento, produção, acúmulo de P, utilização do P e aproveitamento do efeito residual do P aplicado no feijoeiro; o mesmo não foi observado para a fonte mais solúvel (SFT). Em ambos os solos, sem o cultivo prévio de gramíneas forrageiras, o SFT foi superior ao FRA para todas as variáveis avaliadas. Das gramíneas forrageiras estudadas, não se observou efeito definido do seu cultivo prévio sobre as variáveis no feijoeiro cultivado em sucessão.

In no-tillage or in crop-livestock integration systems, it is common the cultivation of common bean in succession to grasses. Due to the root systems morphology, differential secretion of various organic compounds by the roots, and crop residue decomposition, grasses may affect the soil P availability and the acquisition and utilization of P sources, apparently with low agronomic efficiency, for crops in succession. This study was carried out to evaluate the use of P in common bean yield in succession to forage grasses and fertilized with different P sources. Two experiments were carried out using an Inceptsol (Cambisol) and an Oxisol (Latosol), using pots (4 dm³) filled with soil. The experiments were arranged in a completely randomized design in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme. The five treatments were represented by four forage types of the previous cultivation (Brachiaria decumbens, Sorghum bicolor, Brachiaria brizantha and Pennisetum glaucum ), plus soil without previous cultivation and two P sources (Triple Superphosphate -TSP and Arad Reactive Phosphate - ARP), with four replications. The cover forage plants were harvested just before flowering, and common bean was planted on the remaining straw and roots. Overall, it was observed in both soils fertilized with the lower solubility P source (ARP) that succession crops increased growth, yield and use of the residual effect of P applied to the bean plants. The same was not observed for the soluble source (TSP). In both soils without previous cultivation of forage grasses, the TSP performed better than FRA for all variables. Of these forage grasses, no clear effect of their previous cultivation on the studied variables in common bean cultivated in succession was observed.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar em dois solos adubados com fertilizantes fosfatados, o efeito residual das aplicações de fontes de P em gramíneas forrageiras sobre o cultivo sucessivo da soja em vasos. Para tal, foram realizados dois experimentos, um em Cambissolo e outro em Latossolo, utilizando-se vasos com 4 dm³ de solo. Para cada solo, o delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2, sendo cinco tratamentos de cobertura dos solos, representadas pelo cultivo prévio de quatro gramíneas forrageiras como plantas de cobertura (braquiarão, braquiária, milheto e sorgo forrageiro) mais o solo sem cultivo prévio de gramíneas e duas fontes de P (Superfosfato triplo - SFT e Fosfato reativo de arad - FRA), com quatro repetições. As gramíneas forrageiras foram colhidas na fase de pré-florescimento, sendo em seguida cultivada a soja como cultura de sucessão sobre as raízes e palhada. No Cambissolo, quando adubado com a fonte de P de menor solubilidade (FRA), o cultivo prévio das forrageiras proporcionou, na soja cultivada em sucessão, maiores crescimento, produção, acúmulo de P e aproveitamento do efeito residual do P aplicado. Para o Latossolo, esse efeito não foi observado. Em ambos os solos, sem o cultivo prévio de gramíneas forrageiras, o SFT foi superior que o FRA para todas as variáveis avaliadas. Dentre as gramíneas estudadas, não se observou efeito definido do seu cultivo prévio sobre as variáveis avaliadas na soja cultivada em sucessão.

The present work was carried out to evaluate in two different soils fertilized with different phosphorus sources the use of phosphorus and the soybean yield grown in succession to forage grasses. Two experiments were carried out using Inceptsol (Cambisol) and Oxisol (Latosol), using four dm³ pots with soil. The experimental were carried out in a completely randomized design in a 5 x 2 factorial scheme, the five treatments being of soil cover, represented by the previous cultivation of the four forage plants (Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria brizantha, Pennisetum glaucum and Sorghum bicolor), plus the soil without cultivation and two sources of P (Triple Superphosphate - TSP and Arad Reactive Phosphate - ARP). The cover forage plants were harvested in the flowering, being cultivated following on straw and root, the soybean as succession culture, the soybean was harvested after had completed the development cycle. In Inceptsol, when fertilized with the lower solubility (ARP) P source, the previous cultivation of the forage plants promoted larger growth, production and use of the residual effect of applied P in the soybean cultivated in succession; the same was not observed in Oxisol. For the soluble source (TSP), the previous cultivation of the forage grasses didn't affect those variables in the soybean cultivated in Inceptsol and, in a general way, in Oxisol, it was harmful, when compared with the treatment without cultivation. Among the forage grasses studied, a defined effect of their previous cultivation on the evaluating variables in the soybean cultivated in succession was not observed.

Conduziu-se este trablho, com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito do cultivo prévio de diferentes gramíneas forrageiras, adubadas com superfosfato triplo (SFT) e fosfato reativo de arad (FRA), sobre o crescimento, produção e acúmulo de P pela soja. Foram realizados dois experimentos, um em Cambissolo Háplico tb distrófico típico e o outro em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico típico textura muito argilosa. Para os dois experimentos, o delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 4 x 2 + 2, sendo o cultivo prévio de quatro gramíneas forrageiras (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf - braquiária, Brachiaria brizantha Hochst Stapf - braquiarão, milheto e sorgo forrageiro) adubadas com duas fontes de P (FRA e SFT) e dois tratamentos adicionais que é o cultivo da soja sem o cultivo prévio de plantas de cobertura e adubadas com SFT e FRA. As plantas foram colhidas após completar o ciclo de desenvolvimento. Foram determinadas a produtividade de grãos (PG) e de massa seca da parte aérea (MSPA) e o acúmulo de fósforo na parte aérea e nos grãos da soja, as forrageiras imobilizaram o P do SFT, reduzindo o efeito residual para a soja e o feijoeiro. Quando as gramíneas forrageiras foram adubadas com o FRA, houve um aumento do efeito residual, com aumento da produtividade da soja em sucessão às plantas de cobertura, com exceção para o cultivo em sucessão ao braquiarão.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the previous cultivation of different forage grasses fertilized with triple superphosphate (TSP) and reactive Arad phosphate (RAP) on growth, yield, and accumulation of P by soybean. Two experiments were carried out ; one in Haplic Cambisol typical tb distrophic, medium texture and the other in Red Latosol typical distrophic very clayey texture. For both experiments, the experimental design was a completely randomized one in a 4 x 2 + 2 factorial scheme; the previous crop being of four forage grasses utilized as cover plants in no-tillage system (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf - braquiária, Brachiaria brizantha Hochst Stapf - braquiarão, millet and forage sorghum) fertilized with two sources of P (RAP and TSP) and two additional treatments, which are the cultivation of soybean and bean plant without the previous growing of cover plants, and also fertilized with TSP and RAP. The plants were harvested after they had completed the development cycle. Grain and shoot dry matter yield and P accumulation in the shoot and in the grains of soybean were determined. The forage plants immobilized the P of TSP, reducing the residual effect for soybean. When forage grasses are fertilized with RAP, there is increased residual effect with increasing yield of soybean in succession to the cover plants, with exception for the growing in succession to Brachiaria brizanta.

A maior limitação na produção agrícola em solos ácidos de regiões tropicais é a baixa disponibilidade de P no solo, dada a alta capacidade de adsorção, o baixo teor do nutriente no material de origem e a baixa eficiência de absorção e utilização do P apresentada pela maioria das variedades modernas utilizadas comercialmente. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho objetivou avaliar, em dois solos, adubados com duas fontes de P de diferentes reatividades, a produção de biomassa e utilização de P por gramíneas forrageiras. Para isso, conduziram-se dois experimentos, um em cada solo (Cambissolo e Latossolo), utilizando-se vasos com 4 dm³ de solo. O delineamento experimental, para cada solo, foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 x 2, sendo quatro espécies forrageiras (Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria brizantha, Pennisetum glaucum e Sorghum bicolor) e duas fontes de P (Superfosfato Triplo - SFT e Fosfato Reativo de Arad - FRA), com quatro repetições. As gramíneas forrageiras foram colhidas na fase de pré-florescimento, quando se obtiveram o peso da matéria seca e os teores de P. Com o teor de P e a produção de matéria seca produzida, foi determinado o acúmulo de P. Com esses dados, foram calculados os índices de eficiência das raízes na absorção de P, eficiência de utilização, uso eficiente do P disponível, eficiência de aproveitamento do P aplicado e eficiência agronômica do P. A utilização da fonte de P de maior solubilidade (SFT) promoveu, de maneira geral, para ambos os solos, maior produção de matéria seca e acúmulo de P nas gramíneas forrageiras. Para a fonte menos reativa (FRA), as médias encontradas para a eficiência de utilização de P e uso eficiente do P disponível pelas gramíneas forrageiras foram sempre superiores quando cultivadas no Latossolo, indicando condições favoráveis para a solubilização do fosfato reativo. De maneira geral, o braquiarão apresentou melhor produção de matéria seca com baixa absorção, acúmulo e translocação de P, o que conferiu à gramínea boa eficiência de utilização de P para ambas as fontes e solos. As gramíneas mostraram diferenças no potencial de uso do P, em função das fontes aplicadas e dos solos utilizados. Menos de 10 % do P aplicado foi imobilizado na matéria seca das gramíneas, sendo os maiores valores observados para o SFT; contudo, isso não se refletiu em maior eficiência de uso de P dessa fonte.

A major constraint to agricultural production in acid soils of tropical regions is the low soil P availability, due to the high adsorption capacity, low P level in the source material and low efficiency of P uptake and use by most of the modern varieties grown commercially. This study was carried out to evaluate the biomass production and P use by forage grasses on two soils fertilized with two P sources of different solubility. Two experiments were carried out, one for each soil (Cambisol and Latosol), using pots filled with 4 dm³ soil in a completely randomized design and a 4 x 2 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of a combination of four forage plants (Brachiaria decumbens, Brachiaria brizantha, Pennisetum glaucum and Sorghum bicolor) with two P sources (Triple Superphosphate - TSP and Arad Reactive Phosphate - ARP), with four replications. The forage grasses were harvested at pre-flowering, when dry matter weight and P concentrations were measured. Based on the P concentration and dry matter production, the total P accumulation was calculated. With these data, the following indices were calculated: the P uptake efficiency of roots, P use efficiency, use efficiency of available P, use efficiency of applied P and agronomic efficiency. The use of the source with higher solubility (TSP) resulted, generally, in higher total dry matter and total P accumulation in the forage grasses, in both soils. For the less reactive source (ARP), the means found in the forage grasses, for use efficiency and efficient use of available P, were always higher when grown in Latosol, indicating favorable conditions for the solubility of ARP. The total dry matter of Brachiaria brizantha was generally higher, with low P uptake, accumulation and translocation, which indicated good P use efficiency for both P sources and soils. The forage plants differed in the P use potential, due to the sources of the applied P and of the soils used. Less than 10 % of the applied P was immobilized in the forage dry matter. Highest values were observed for TSP, but this was not reflected in a higher use efficiency of P from this source.

Aspectos qualitativos e quantitativos devem ser considerados na adubação nitrogenada de cobertura na cultura de milho. Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar, nos municípios de Votuporanga (SP) e Uberlândia (MG), o efeito de diferentes misturas de grânulos, contendo N e S, na produtividade de milho. Em um Argissolo Vermelho eutrófico A moderado textura arenosa (120 g kg-1 de argila) de Votuporanga, foram estimadas as perdas por volatilização de N-NH3, das misturas de grânulos constituídas por uréia (U) e sulfato de amônio (SA), ou U e gesso agrícola, aplicadas no primeiro parcelamento de cobertura nitrogenada. Em Uberlândia, em Latossolo Vermelho ácrico típico fase Cerrado subcaducifólio muito argiloso (720 g kg-1), foram determinados a distribuição de N-inorgânico e S-sulfato em profundidade, após a aplicação das misturas em cobertura, e os custos de aplicação dessas fontes. Os experimentos foram instalados em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, e as misturas de grânulos aplicadas em superfície, na entre linha de cultivo. Em Votuporanga, foram acompanhados dois experimentos: safra 2005/2006 e safrinha 2006. Na safra de 2005/2006, foram comparados quatro tratamentos de cobertura: testemunha, sem N, uréia+sulfato de amônio farelado (U+SAfa), uréia+gesso granulado (U+Gesso gr) e uréia+gesso em pó (U+Gesso pó), aplicados em dois parcelamentos de 45 kg ha-1 de N cada, nos estádios de cinco a seis folhas e 12 a 13 folhas. As perdas de N-NH3 volatilizado em função do N aplicado foram de 45,9, 56,6 e 61,1 % das misturas U+SAfa, U+Gesso pó e U+Gesso gr, respectivamente. A produtividade de grãos não mostrou diferença significativa entre os tratamentos, sendo, em média, de 5.362 kg ha-1. Na safrinha, uréia+sulfato de amônio granulado (U+SAgr) foi incluído nos tratamentos. Neste experimento, as misturas de grânulos foram aplicadas em doses de 50 kg ha-1 de N cada, em cobertura, nos estádios de três a quatro folhas e seis a sete folhas. A produtividade de grãos foi similar entre as fontes de U+SA e U+Gesso, sendo em média de 5.332 kg ha-1. Em Uberlândia, foram comparados os cinco tratamentos testados no experimento - safrinha de Votuporanga. As misturas de grânulos foram aplicadas em dose única de 90 kg ha-1 de N, no estádio de quatro a cinco folhas. Os maiores teores de N-mineral total foram detectados na camada de 0 a 10 cm de profundidade, em todos os tratamentos (abaixo de 3 mg dm-3), diminuindo em profundidade, enquanto o S-sulfato concentrou-se entre as camadas de 10 a 60 cm. Os tratamentos de U+Gesso e U+SA apresentaram, em média, produtividades de 11.364 e 10.300 kg ha-1 de grãos, respectivamente. O custo de aplicação de U+Gesso gr foi 27,7 % superior aos custos médios de aplicação de U+SAgr e U+SAfa, devido a seu menor teor de N, e 7,8 % superior em relação aos custos diretos totais por hectare. A mistura NK com aplicação posterior de U+Gesso pó apresentou custo de aplicação similar ao da U+Gesso gr, devido à dupla operação de aplicação do primeiro. Os resultados em ambas as regiões permitem concluir que o milho respondeu de forma similar à aplicação em cobertura das fontes mistas, U+SA e U+Gesso, independentemente da granulometria dos produtos, e que os custos de aplicação das formas U+Gesso foram superiores aos das misturas U+SA.

Qualitative and quantitative aspects must be considered in the side-dressing fertilization in the cultivation of corn. This study aimed to evaluate in the counties of Votuporanga (SP) and Uberlândia (MG), the effect on productivity of corn using different mixtures of granules in the side-dressing fertilization, containing nitrogen (N) and sulphur (S). In Votuporanga (SP), in an Argisol (120 g kg-1 of clay) were estimated losses through volatilization of NH3-N granules mix consisting of urea (U) + ammonium sulfate (AS) or U + Gypsum applied in the first split of nitrogen application. In Uberlândia (MG) in ácric Red Latossol typical Cerrado phase clayed (720 g kg-1), was given the distribution of N- and S-inorganic sulphate in depth, after application the granules mix, and assessment of the costs of implementing these sources. The experiments were installed in randomized block design with four repetitions, and granules mix applied to surface in between the row of plants. In Votuporanga (SP), were installed two experiments: first crop 2005/2006 and second-crop 2006. In the first crop, four treatments of side-dressing were compared: zero NSK, urea+ammonium sulphate with different particles size (U+ASfa), urea+gypsum granulated (U+Gypsum gr) and urea+gypsum powder (U+Gypsum powder), applied in two times of 45 kg ha-1 of N each, in the respective stages of five to six leaves and 12 to 13 leaves. The losses of NH3-N were 45.9, 56.6 and 61.1 % of the N-applied in the forms U+ASfa, U+Gypsum powder and U+Gypsum gr, respectively. In spite of the losses of U+ASfa to be inferior to the other two sources, the productivity didn't show significant difference among those treatments, being on average of 5.362 kg ha-1. In the second crop, the treatment urea+ammonium sulphate granule (U+ASgr) was included. The formulations were applied in N doses of 50 kg ha-1 each, in the stages of four and six to seven leaves, respectively. The grain productivity was similar between the sources of U+AS and U+Gypsum, being on average of 5.332 kg ha-1. In Uberlândia (MG), the same treatments as in second crop of Votuporanga (SP) were compared. The formulations were applied N in a single dose of 90 kg ha-1 of N in the corn stage of four to five leaves. The distribution of total mineral-N and sulphate-S were evaluated in depth until 60 cm, 30 days after the application of the formulations in side-dressing. The largest concentrations of total mineral-N were detected in the layer of 0-10 cm for all of the treatments (below 3 mg dm-3), decreasing in depth; however the sulfate-S was more concentrated among the layers of 10 down to 60 cm. The treatments of U+Gypsum presented the largest productivities, on average of 11.364 kg ha-1, in relation to the sources of U+AS (10.300 kg ha-1). The cost of application of U+Gypsum gr was 27,7 % superior for the mean costs of application of U+ASgr and U+ASfa, due to the smallest concentration of nitrogen and 7,8 % superior in relation to the total direct costs for hectare. The cost of application in relation to total cost of NK formulated with subsequent application of gypsum powder (U+Gypsum powder) was similar to U+Gypsum gr, due to the higher production cost and the duplication of application handling. The results of both areas allow to conclude that the corn response was similar for the side-dressing of the mixed sources of U+AS and U+Gypsum, independently of the particle size and in soils of different texture, and that the costs of application of the forms urea+Gypsum, were superior to the formulated mixtures U+AS.
