RESUMO: Revestimento comestível de alginato de sódio incorporado com própolis marrom (2,5%, 5%, 10% e 15%) foi aplicado em grãos de pimenta-do-reino para melhorar a qualidade microbiológica ao longo de 30 dias. Análise de cromatografia gasosa associada à espectrometria de massa identificou 29 metabólitos no extrato, principalmente compostos terpênicos (51,74%), compostos fenólicos (25,83%) e flavonóides (14,48%). A própolis marrom apresentou maior atividade antibacteriana para bactérias Gram-positivas (CIM de 0,1 a 0,5 mg.mL-1) e menor atividade para Escherichia coli (CIM 18 mg.mL-1). Um aumento em 5% no revestimento da própolis reduziu a contagem de Bacillus cereus em sete vezes, 9,4% para Staphylococcus aureus e 5,4% para bactérias mesófilas. O revestimento comestível de alginato de sódio e própolis marrom foi eficaz na redução microbiana da pimenta-do-reino, em que a concentração de 15% de própolis garantiu a qualidade microbiológica da especiaria até 20 dias.

ABSTRACT: An edible coating of sodium alginate incorporated with brown propolis (2.5%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) was applied to black pepper grains to improve microbiological quality over 30 days. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry identified 29 metabolites in the extract, mainly terpene compounds (51.74%), phenolic compounds (25.83%), and flavonoids (14.48%). Brown propolis showed greater antibacterial activity for Gram-positive bacteria (MIC from 0.1 to 0.5 mg.mL-1) and lower activity for Escherichiacoli (MIC 18 mg.mL-1). A 5% increase in propolis in the coating reduced Bacilluscereus counts by 7-fold, 9.4% for Staphylococcusaureus, and 5.4% for mesophilic bacteria. The edible sodium alginate coating containing brown propolis was effective in reducing microbes on black pepper, with a concentration of 15% propolis assuring the microbiological quality of the spice after 20 days.

ABSTRACT Objective To assess testicular volumes and sexual maturation in patients with testicular torsion. Methods A retrospective analysis of consecutively treated patients with testicular torsion between 2016 and 2018. Age, pubic hair staging (Tanner), and by ultrasonography, volume of the unaffected testis (in cubic centimeters) were evaluated either immediately before surgery or at the first postoperative visit. Patients with previous testicular disease, such as cryptorchidism, or with no records of testicular volume were excluded. The analysis included descriptive statistics and Bayesian regression. Results We treated 149 patients during the study period, and 141 (94.6%, median age 17.3 years) met the inclusion criteria. Median testicular volume was 13.0cm3 (interquartile range of 10.5-15.2), with similar right and left volumes (12.9cm3versus 13.3cm3; p=0.94). Sixty-five (46.1%) patients were Tanner stage IV, 17 (12.1%) stage III, and 59 (41.8%) stage V. Conclusion In this study, we were able to estimate volumes of testicular torsion, which aggregated around late puberty values (13.0cm3 for the whole dataset, 12.2cm3 for patients <25 years), suggesting that testicular hypermobility, due to congenital anatomical abnormalities, remains quiescent until the organ reaches a critical volume, after which torsion becomes possible. These findings provide a tentative explanation for the disease’s age distribution.

RESUMO A síntese de cristais semiorgânicos formados por aminoácidos e metais nos últimos anos tem ganhado maior atenção devido às propriedades estruturais e vibracionais promissoras destas moléculas. Neste âmbito, este trabalho visou à síntese de um monocristal de L-Treonina complexado com o íon Cu2+ pelo método de evaporação lenta do solvente, bem como o estudo das propriedades estruturais, vibracional e térmica. O material foi obtido após 30 dias em pH 5.8. Verificou-se por meio da Difração de raios X que o cristal sintetizado possui estrutura monoclínica com grupo espacial P21. A análise por termogravimetria mostrou que o material é estável ate 50 °C, sofrendo uma transformação de fase por meio da perda das moléculas de água na célula unitária. Em 180 °C a DRX em conjunto com o método de Le Bail mostrou que o material adquire uma nova conformação estrutural, permanecendo em um sistema monoclínico e transitando para o grupo de simetria P121.

ABSTRACT Semi-organic crystals synthesis formed by amino acids and metals in recent years has gained more attention because the promising structural and vibrational properties these molecules. In this context, this work aimed the synthesis of Cu2+ ion complexed L-Threonine single crystal by solvent evaporation slow method as well the study of structural, vibrational and thermal promising properties. The material was obtained after 30 days at pH 5.8. Was verified by X-ray diffraction that the synthetized crystal has a monoclinic system with space group P21. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the material is stable up 50 ° C, undergoing a phase transformation by the loss of water molecules in the unit cell. At 180 ° C the XRD together with the Le Bail method showed material acquires a new structural conformation, remaining in a monoclinic system and transiting to the symmetry group P121.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of liraglutide, an analog of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in association with physical exercise, on the metabolic and biochemical parameters of rats induced to obesity with a cafeteria diet. Male Wistar rats, aged 21 days, were randomly divided into: Controls (CON) receiving standard feed and water ad libitum; and obese (OBESE) receiving cafeteria diet ad libitum, added to the standard diet. Groups were then subdivided into: Liraglutide animals that received subcutaneous injections of liraglutide from 80 to 90 days of life; exercised (EXE) animals submitted to swimming sessions, three days a week (15 min); and liraglutide + EXE animals that received liraglutide in association with physical exercise. Treatment with liraglutide reduced deposits of mesenteric and periepididymal fat, HOMA-IR, triglycerides, glucose and insulin in obese group. It is important to note that the association of the two treatments reduced the body weight in animals, deposits of mesenteric and periepididymal fat, HOMA-IR, blood triglyceride levels, glucose and insulin in obese rats. As such, the association of liraglutide with exercise potentiated the effects of the drug and ameliorated obesity pathology more effectively. retirar

RESUMO A corrosão microbiológica tem causado diversos prejuízos para variados segmentos industriais que utilizam os materiais metálicos em seus sistemas. Uma forma de minimizar e até mesmo controlar os problemas causados pela corrosão microbiológica tem sido a aplicação de biocidas nestes sistemas. Neste trabalho, a corrosão microbiológica do aço duplex UNS S 31803 foi avaliada com a aplicação de um biocida contendo sais de quaternário de amônio em água de produção de petróleo de uma plataforma offshore, simulando ambiente hipersalino. A fim de avaliar a corrosão microbiológica com a aplicação do biocida foram utilizadas técnicas microbiológicas como número mais provável – NMP – e eletroquímicas (medidas de potencial a circuito aberto e polarização). O biocida impactou os grupos bacterianos, eliminando inclusive dois grupos bacterianos (bactérias produtoras de ácido aeróbias e redutoras de sulfato) na fase séssil. Os potenciais medidos a circuito aberto mais elevados foram observados quando o biocida contendo sais de quaternário de amônio foi aplicado nos sistemas. Os valores potenciais de pite obtidos pelas análises de polarização mostraram que os microrganismos influenciaram nos valores e que o biocida manteve os potenciais em torno de 1000 mVECS. Os ensaios de polarização permitiram analisar através de instabilidades nas curvas e variações nas densidades de corrente passiva ao longo do tempo, a complexa dinâmica ocorrente sobre a superfície metálica devido à competição entre formação e desestabilização de película passiva, adsorção e dessorção de biocida/biofilme.

ABSTRACT Microbiological corrosion has caused several damages to several industrial segments that use the metallic materials in their systems. One way of minimizing and even controlling this problem has been the biocide application in these systems. In this work, the microbiological corrosion of the UNS S 31803 duplex steel was evaluated by the application of a biocide containing quaternary ammonium salts in petroleum production water from an offshore platform, simulating the hypersaline environment. In order to evaluate the microbiological corrosion, microbiological technique as Most Probable Number method (MPN) and electrochemical technique (open circuit potential and polarization measures) were used. The biocide impacted on the present microbiota, eliminating two bacterial groups (aerobic and sulfate reducing bacteria) in the sessile phase. The highest open circuit measured potentials were observed when the biocide containing quaternary ammonium salts was applied to the systems. The potential pite values obtained by the polarization analyzes showed that the microorganisms influenced the values and that the biocide kept the potentials around 1000 mVECS. The polarization tests allowed to analyze, through instability in the curves and variations in passive current densities over time, the complex dynamics occurring on the metal surface due to competition between formation and destabilization of passive film, adsorption and desorption of biocide/biofilm.

In the present study we analyzed morphological and metabolic alterations in dams nursing small litters and their consequences to offspring throughout lactation. Offspring sizes were adjusted to Small Litter (SL, 3 pups/ dam) and Normal Litter (NL, 9 pups/ dam). Body weight, food intake, white adipose tissue (WAT) content, histological analysis of the pancreas, mammary gland (MG) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) as well as, plasma parameters and milk composition were measured in dams and pups on the 7th, 14th and 21st days of lactation. In general, SL-dams presented higher body weight and retroperitoneal fat content, elevated fat infiltration in BAT, reduced islets size and hyperglycemia throughout lactation in relation to NL-dams (p<0.05). Moreover, MG from SL-dams had reduced alveoli development and high adipocytes content, resulting in milk with elevated energetic value and fat content in relation to NL-dams (p<0.05). Maternal states influenced offspring anthropometric conditions during lactation, offspring-SL displayed higher body weight and growth, hyperglycemia, augmented lipid deposition in BAT and elevated islet. Thus, maternal histological and metabolic changes are due to modifications to nursing small litters and reinforce the importance of preserving maternal health during lactation avoiding early programming effects on offspring preventing metabolic consequences later in life.

Resumo Foram avaliados os efeitos da adição de diferentes níveis de betaína (0,0%, 0,1%, 0,2%, 0,3%) sobre a morfologia do intestino delgado. Foram utilizados 52 leitões desmamados aos 23 dias de idade e peso médio de 5,4 kg, quatro níveis de betaína e cinco épocas de abate. Foram efetuados cinco abates, com intervalos de três dias, considerando o dia da desmama como o dia zero. Foram avaliadas altura de vilosidade e profundidade de criptas. Foram observadas diferenças significativas (P<0,05) entre os tratamentos para altura das vilosidades no duodeno e para profundidade de criptas do íleo. Em relação aos dias pós-desmama, ocorreram diferenças significativas (P< 0,05) para altura de vilosidades e profundidade de criptas nos três segmentos intestinais analisados.

Abstract We evaluated the effects of increasing levels of betaine (0.0%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%) on small intestine structure. Fifty-two weaned piglets at 23 days of age and average weight of 5.4 kg were used. We studied four betaine levels and five slaughtered times with three days of interval, considering the weaning day as the initial day (zero day). We evaluated villi height and crypt depth. We observed significant differences (P<0.05) among treatments for villi height in duodenum and for crypt depth in ileum. Regarding post-weaning days, significant differences (P<0.05) in villi height and crypt depth occurred in the three intestinal segments analyzed.

Este artigo descreve o desenvolvimento e a aplicação de um dispositivo portátil, simples e barato para a determinação colorimétrica quantitativa de fármacos em formulações farmacêuticas. O sensor é um resistor detector de luz (RDL) colocado numa célula de PTFE e acoplado a um multímetro de baixo custo. Os estudos quantitativos foram realizados utilizando captopril/p-cloranil/H2O2 e metildopa/molibdato de amônio como sistemas reacionais. As curvas de calibração foram obtidas através da representação gráfica da resistência elétrica do RDL contra a concentração dos complexos coloridos formados nas faixas de 1,84 × 10-4 e 1,29 × 10-3 mol L-1 e 5,04 × 10-4 e 2,52 × 10- 3 mol L-1 para captopril/p-cloranil/H2O2 e de metildopa/molibdato de amônio, respectivamente, com bons coeficientes de determinação. As análises estatísticas dos resultados obtidos mostraram que não houve diferença significativa entre os métodos propostos e os métodos oficiais como evidente a partir dos testes "t-Student" eF-Fisher, com nível de confiança de 95%. Os resultados deste estudo demonstram que o instrumento proposto neste trabalho é simples, de fácil operação, baixo custo e apresentou boa exatidão e boa precisão para o doseamento de fármacos em medicamentos.

This article describes the application and performance of an inexpensive, simple and portable device for colorimetric quantitative determination of drugs in pharmaceutical preparations. The sensor is a light detector resistor (LDR) incorporated into a black PTFE cell and coupled to a low-cost multimeter (Ohmmeter). Quantitative studies were performed with captopril/p-chloranil/H2O2 and methyldopa/ammonium molybdate systems. Calibration curves were obtained by plotting the electrical resistance of the LDR against the concentration of the colored species in the ranges 1.84 × 10-4 to 1.29 × 10-3mol L-1 and 5.04 × 10-4 to 2.52 × 10-3 mol L-1 for captopril/p-chloranil/H2O2 and methyldopa/ammonium molybdate systems, respectively, exhibiting good coefficients of determination. Statistical analysis of the results obtained showed no significant difference between the proposed methodologies and the official reported methods, as evidenced by the t-test and variance ratio at a 95% confidence level. The results of this study demonstrate the applicability of the instrument for simple, accurate, precise, fast,in situ and low-cost colorimetric analysis of drugs in pharmaceutical products.

Desenvolveu-se método espectrofotométrico simples, preciso, sensível, rápido, específico e econômico para a determinação do teor de metildopa (MTD) em matéria-prima e em formulações farmacêuticas. O método proposto baseia-se na formação de um produto colorido resultante da reação de nitrosação da MTD com nitrito de sódio em meio ácido. A espécie resultante (nitroso derivado) reage com hidróxido de sódio e é convertida a um composto mais estável de cor amarela. Este produto exibiu máximo de absorção a 430 nm. A lei de Beer foi obedecida na faixa de concentração de 6,37 a 82,81 μg mL-1 de MTD com excelente coeficiente de determinação (R2 = 0,9998). Não se observou interferência de excipientes comumente encontrados em formulações farmacêuticas comerciais. Os resultados demonstraram que o método proposto apresenta simplicidade, excelentes precisão e exatidão e pode ser aplicado para a determinação de MTD na sua forma pura e em preparações farmacêuticas. Os resultados analíticos obtidos pelo método proposto estão de acordo com aqueles obtidos pelo método oficial descrito na Farmacopéia Brasileira, a um nível de confiança de 95%.

A simple, precise, sensitive, rapid, specific and economical spectrophotometric method was developed to determine methyldopa (MTD) content in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage formulations. The proposed method was based on the formation of a colored product from the nitrosation reaction of MTD with sodium nitrite in an acid medium. The resultant nitroso derivative species reacts further with sodium hydroxide and is converted it into a more stable compound. This yellow nitrosation product exhibited an absorption maximum at 430 nm. Beer's Law was obeyed in a concentration range of 6.37 to 82.81 μg mL-1 MTD with an excellent coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.9998). No interference was observed from common excipients in formulations. The results showed the method to be simple, accurate and readily applied for the determination of MTD in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations. The analytical results obtained for these products using the proposed method are in agreement with those of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia procedure at a 95% confidence level.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar os efeitos do hemissulfato de S-metilisotiouréia (SMT) na cicatrização de anastomoses colônicas em ratos no terceiro, sétimo e 14° dia de pós-operatório (DPO). MÉTODOS: Sessenta ratos Wistar foram distribuídos em dois grupos: experimental (E) e controle (C), com 30 animais cada. No grupo experimental foi administrado SMT 50mg/kg/dose, intraperitoneal a cada 12 horas por 72 horas. O grupo controle recebeu NaCl a 0,9%. Os ratos foram subdivididos em grupos de 10 para eutanásia no terceiro, sétimo e 14° DPO. Avaliou-se a evolução clínica e o peso dos animais, a resistência tênsil e histopatologia da anastomose, e a dosagem de nitrito/nitrato no soro. RESULTADOS: Houve mais neoformação vascular (p=0,006) e de granulação (p=0,002) no grupo E3, e maior infiltração de mononucleares no grupo C3 (p=0,041). Houve também mais edema no grupo C14 (p=0,008). Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa na resistência tênsil, a dosagem de nitrito / nitrato, e os restantes parâmetros histopatológicos. CONCLUSÃO: A utilização do hemissulfato de S-metilisotiouréia acelerou a cicatrização das anastomoses colônicas, a melhoria ocorreu no terceiro DPO: verificou-se que a fase proliferativa da cicatrização foi acelerada. Não houve interferência na resistência tênsil das anastomoses.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of S-methylisothiourea hemisulfate (SMT) on the healing of colonic anastomosis in rats. METHODS: Sixty rats Wistar were distributed into two groups of 30 animals: experimental (E) and control C). The animals of experimental group received intraperitoneal SMT at 50mg/kg/dose every 12 hours for 72 hours. The control group received intraperitoneal saline at the same volume of SMT. The rats were subdivided into subgroups groups of 10 for euthanasia on the third, seventh, and 14th postoperative days (POD). We evaluated clinical and weight evolution, breaking strength and histopathology; also, a blood sample was collected for serum dosage of nitrite/nitrate. RESULTS: There was more vascular neoformation (p=0.006) and granulation (p=0.002) in the E3 group, and more mononuclear infiltrates in the C3 group (p=0.041). There was also more edema in the C14 group (p=0.008). There was no statistically significant difference in breaking strength, nitrite/nitrate dosage, and the remaining histopathological parameters. CONCLUSION: The use of S-methylisothiourea hemisulfate improved the healing of colonic anastomosis in rats on the third postoperative day by accelerating the proliferative stage of healing, but without interfering with the breaking strength of the anastomosis.

The goal of this manuscript is provide to students of Chemistry and related areas an alternative experiment in which they can obtain a compound and learn to observe and interpret properties and predict organic structure by obtaining furfural from biomass. Furfural is an organic compound, obtained through acid hydrolysis of pentosans, commonly used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Students are guided to get furfural through extractive procedures and chemical reactions adapted to semi-micro laboratory scale. Characterization of furfural was done by chemical tests and physical properties. Identification was accomplished by a series of spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques.

RACIONAL: O megaesôfago chagásico é disfunção da motilidade esofágica de caráter progressivo. Seus principais sintomas são disfagia, regurgitação e perda de peso. A cardiomiotomia associada à fundoplicatura é usada como tratamento para o megaesôfago não avançado há algumas décadas. OBJETIVO: Avaliar os resultados obtidos com a cardiomiotomia associada à fundoplicatura por videolaparoscopia para o tratamento do megaesôfago não avançado. MÉTODO: Estudo retrospectivo com análise dos resultados obtidos com essa operação para tratamento do megaesôfago graus I e II. Avaliou-se perda ponderal, tempo e intensidade dos sintomas, tempo operatório, taxa de conversão, índice de complicações, tempo de internação. RESULTADOS: Foram operados 68 pacientes, sendo 34 homens. A maioria (42%) apresentava sintomas intensos. O tempo médio de sintomas foi de 9,27 anos. A perda ponderal média foi de 5,1 kg. Sorologia para Chagas foi positiva em 88,13%. O tempo médio de operação foi de 190 minutos. Houve uma conversão para laparotomia. A mediana do tempo de internação foi de três dias. A taxa de complicações foi de 4,4%. A melhora dos sintomas foi observada em 92% dos pacientes. CONCLUSÃO: O tratamento videolaparoscópico do megaesôfago não-avançado pela cadiomiotomia associada à fundoplicatura mostrou-se método seguro e eficaz. Apresenta baixo índice de complicações e bons resultados no seguimento a curto prazo.

BACKGROUND: The chagasic megaesophagus is progressive esophageal motility dysfunction. Its main symptoms are dysphagia, regurgitation and weight loss. Cardiomyotomy associated with fundoplication is used as treatment for advanced megaesophagus since decades ago. AIM: To evaluate the results obtained with cardiomyotomy associated with laparoscopic fundoplication for the treatment of non-advanced megaesophagus. METHOD: A retrospective study with analysis of the results obtained with this operation for the treatment of megaesophagus grade I and II was done. Were evaluated the weight loss, time and intensity of symptoms, operative time, conversion rate, complication rate, length of hospitalization. RESULTS: Were operated 68 patients, 34 men. The majority (42%) had severe symptoms. The average length of symptoms was 9.27 years. The mean weight loss was 5.1 kg. Chagas serology was positive in 88.13%. The average operation time was 190 minutes. There was one conversion to laparotomy. The median length of hospital stay was three days. The complication rate was 4.4%. The improvement in symptoms was observed in 92% of patients. CONCLUSION: The laparoscopic treatment of non-advanced megaesophagus by cadiomiotomy associated with fundoplication was found to be safe and effective method. Has a low complication rate and good results in short follow-up.

Foi desenvolvido um estudo para avaliar a contaminação aquática provinda de descargas de esgotos municipais, tratados ou inadequadamente tratados, como também provindas de áreas de pastagem, de agricultura, de depósitos de resíduos de construção civil e de sucata metálica, nas vizinhanças da bacia do Rio Turvo Limpo. Os cursos d'água examinados foram o Ribeirão São Bartolomeu, o Rio Turvo Sujo e o Rio Turvo Limpo, localizados no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. As amostras de água foram coletadas as margens dos cursos d'água nos meses de julho, agosto e setembro de 2005, no período da estiagem, para se avaliar a presença de poluentes. Foram determinados nos cursos d'água o pH, oxigênio dissolvido, demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, fosfato total, série de nitrogênios (total, amoniacal e nitrato), e as concentrações de Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Ni, Pb e Zn. As concentrações destes metais também foram determinadas nos sólidos em suspensão. Altas concentrações de Zn (15.350 mg kg-1) e de Pb (3.590 mg kg-1) foram encontradas nos sólidos em suspensão, enquanto que nas águas do Ribeirão São Bartolomeu a concentração de Al atingiu 1.480 µg L-1. O valor de pH e as concentrações de demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, de fosfato total, e de nitrogênio amoniacal total nos cursos d'água mostraram-se fora dos valores de águas Classe 2, estabelecidos pela legislação ambiental brasileira. Em todos os pontos de amostragem ocorreram incrementos nas concentrações de nitrato, quando comparadas com a amostra coletada em uma fonte (sítio 1). As concentrações de nitrato ficaram abaixo das concentrações de nitrogênio amoniacal total, indicando que o nitrogênio nos cursos d'água foi originado principalmente de descargas recentes de esgoto, tendo em vista que não ocorreu mineralização expressiva com a formação de íons nitrato.

The aquatic contamination from the discharge of untreated or inadequately treated municipal sewage, as well as from husbandry, agriculture, and the disposal of municipal garbage, metallic scraps and civil architecture residues in the neighborhood of the Turvo Limpo River basin was evaluated. The water-courses examined were the São Bartolomeu Stream, Turvo Sujo River, and Turvo Limpo River, located in the Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Water samples were collected at the river-side in the dry season (July, August, and September 2005) and analyzed for evaluation of pollutant inputs. The pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total phosphate, total ammonia nitrogen (NH3 + NH4+), nitrate and metal concentrations (Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in water samples were determined. The concentrations of these metals in the suspended solids were also determined. The suspended solids showed high concentrations of Zn (15,350 mg kg-1) and Pb (3,590 mg kg-1), while the stream water was enhanced with Al (1,480 µg L-1). The pH and the concentrations of BOD, total phosphate and total ammonia nitrogen in the water-courses were far from those established by the Brazilian Environmental Standards for Class 2 water. In all examined sites there was an increase in the nitrate concentration compared with that of a spring (site 1). The nitrate concentrations were below those of the total ammonia nitrogen, indicating that the nitrogen in the water-courses was mainly originated from recent sewage discharges, since did not occurred larger mineralization with the formation of nitrate ions.

Este trabalho descreve um método simples e rápido por "spot test" quantitativo, utilizando a espectroscopia de reflectância difusa para determinação de metildopa em formulações farmacêuticas. O método proposto baseia-se na reação de complexação entre metildopa e íons molibdato, formando um complexo amarelo na superfície do papel de filtro. As medidas de reflectância foram realizadas a 410 nm. A curva analítica obtida a partir do gráfico de densidade óptica do sinal de reflectância (A R) vs. log da concentração de metildopa apresentou linearidade na faixa de 6,30 x 10-3 a 1,89 x 10-2 mol L-1, com um coeficiente de correlação de 0,998. O limite de detecção foi de 2,74 x 10-3 mol L-1 (R.S.D. = 1,02%). As substâncias comumente utilizadas como excipientes nas formulações farmacêuticas não interferem no método proposto. O método foi aplicado para a determinação de metildopa em formulações farmacêuticas comerciais. Os resultados obtidos por este método foram comparados favoravelmente com aqueles obtidos pelo método oficial, com 95% de nível de confiança.

This paper describes a very simple and rapid quantitative reflectance spot test procedure for the determination of methyldopa in pharmaceutical formulations. This method is based on the complexation reaction of methyldopa with molybdate ions yielding a yellow stable complex on filter paper. Reflectance measurements were carried out at 410 nm. Under optimal conditions, the calibration graphs obtained for methyldopa by plotting the optical density of the reflectance signal (A R) vs. the log of the concentration were linear from 6.30 x 10-3 to 1.89 x 10-2 mol L-1, with a correlation coefficient of 0.998. The detection limit was 2.74 x 10-3 mol L-1 (R.S.D. = 1.02%) for methyldopa. The common excipients used as additives in pharmaceuticals do not interfere in the proposed method. The method was applied to determine metyldopa in commercial pharmaceutical formulations. The results obtained by the proposed method compare favorably with those obtained by an official procedure at 95% confidence level.
