Resumo A ventilação natural é uma importante estratégia passiva para manutenção da qualidade do ar e do conforto térmico em espaços internos. O diferencial de pressão nas fachadas das edificações, quantificado a partir dos coeficientes de pressão (Cps), impacta diretamente no desempenho da ventilação natural. Fatores como direção do vento, entorno, tipo de terreno, geometria da edificação e detalhamentos nas fachadas influenciam a distribuição de pressão. Muitas investigações utilizam-se de ensaios em túneis de vento ou simulações fluidodinâmicas para avaliar os Cps em geometrias lisas e regulares. Neste artigo, objetiva-se avaliar o impacto de dispositivos de sombreamento externos nos Cps em um modelo genérico isolado de 3,0 m x 3,0 m x 2,7 m com duas aberturas (de 1 m2 cada uma) centralizadas e dispostas em faces opostas a 1,1 m do piso. Assim, a partir de sua versão reduzida (escala 1:7,5), cinco configurações (sem dispositivos, modelo selado e com aberturas e tipologias com sombreamentos horizontal, combinados e verticais) foram ensaiadas em túnel de vento para oito incidências de vento (de 0° a 90° e 180°). Os resultados indicarammaiores discrepâncias nos Cps nas tipologias com componentes verticais expostas às incidências de 45°, 60° e 75°.

Abstract Natural ventilation in buildings is an important passive strategy to maintain indoor air quality and comfortable thermal environments. The pressure differential on buildings’ façades, quantified by the wind pressure coefficients (WPCs), directly impacts the performance of natural ventilation. Several factors, as wind direction, surroundings, terrain type, building geometry and facades’ details influence wind pressure distribution. Many investigations use wind tunnel tests or computational fluid dynamics simulations to evaluate the Cps in regular geometries. This paper aims to evaluate the impact of external shading devices on the WPCs of a generic isolated model with 3.0 m x 3.0 m x 2.7 m with two openings (with 1.0 m 2 each), centralised and placed on opposite façades with a windowsill measuring 1.1 m. Thus, from its reduced version (scale 1:7.5), five configurations (model without shadings, sealed model and model with openings, and typologies with horizontal, combined and vertical shading devices) are tested in a wind tunnel with eight wind attack angles (0° to 90° and 180°). The results show greater differences in cases with vertical shading devices exposed to wind attack angles of 45°, 60° and 75°.

Resumo A ventilação natural é uma eficiente estratégia para o condicionamento térmico passivo de edificações, e muitas vezes o seu potencial está relacionado às decisões em projeto diferentes do modelo convencional. Um exemplo são os sheds, aberturas na cobertura que funcionam como captadores ou extratores de ar, dependendo de sua localização em relação aos ventos dominantes. O objetivo do artigo é avaliar a influência do número de sheds e da distância entre eles no desempenho da ventilação natural. Os ângulos de incidência dos ventos analisados foram 0º, 45º, 135º e 180º. A metodologia adotada foi simulação por Dinâmica dos Fluidos Computacional (CFD), utilizando o software CFX. Os resultados indicam que o aumento do número de sheds reduz a renovação de ar interna para as situações de extração e captação de ar. Por outro lado, o aumento da distância entre esses dispositivos, incrementa o fluxo de ar interno para os sheds captadores. No entanto, teve-se uma redução na renovação de ar para os sheds extratores de ar. Isso ocorre pela redução da área total das abertiras de saída de ar, que apresenta uma influência na vazão volumétrica do edifício. Nos sheds captadores de ar o incremento ocorre, pois, apesar do aumento da distância ter reduzido o número das aberturas de entrada de ar, torna os sheds mais efetivos para captar o fluxo de ar.

Abstract Natural ventilation is an effective strategy for the passive thermal conditioning of buildings, and its potential is often connected with design decisions that differ from the conventional model. An example of that are sheds, which are openings in the roof that function as air extractors and collectors, depending on their location in relation to the prevailing winds. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the number of sheds and the distance between them on the performance of natural ventilation. The angles of incidence of the winds analysed were 0º, 45º, 135º and 180º. The methodology adopted was simulation by Computational Fluid Dynamics using the CFX software. The results indicate that increasing the number of sheds reduces the internal air renewal for the air extraction and collection. Increasing the distance between the sheds, increases the internal airflow for the air collector sheds. However, a reduction in renewal rates was observed in the air extractor sheds. This was due to the reduction of the air outlet total area, which influences the flow rate of the building. In the air collector sheds, the increase occurred because the sheds become more effective for air entrance despite the fact that an increased distance reduced the number of air inlet openings.
