RESUMO Devido às importantes funções do cálcio na fisiologia vegetal, a suplementação deste nutriente pode ser uma estratégia viável para aumentar a tolerância das plantas à salinidade. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as trocas gasosas e o crescimento de cultivares de rúcula de folhas largas cultivadas em fibra de coco submetidas ao estresse salino. Quatro soluções nutritivas [(S1-solução nutritiva padrão (condutividade elétrica da água - CEa de 0,5 dS m-1; S2- solução nutritiva utilizando água salina com NaCl a 3,5 dS m-1; S3-S2 enriquecida com Ca(NO3)2 a 50%; S4-S2 enriquecido com Ca(NO3)2 a 100%, obtendo valores de 2,3, 5,1, 5,5 e 5,9 dS m-1, para S1, S2, S3 e S4, respectivamente], e duas cultivares de rúcula. (Donatella e Gigante Folha Larga), dispostas em esquema fatorial 2 × 4, com três repetições, foram estudadas. As plantas foram colhidas 40 dias após a semeadura e avaliadas quanto às seguintes variáveis: altura de planta, número de folhas, área foliar, massa fresca total, massa seca total, área foliar específica, suculência foliar, índice relativo de clorofila, condutância estomática, taxa de assimilação de CO2, taxa de transpiração, concentração interna de CO2 e eficiência instantânea do uso da água e eficiência intrínseca de carboxilação. A cultivar Gigante Folha Larga foi mais tolerante à salinidade da solução nutritiva. O uso de solução nutritiva salinizada afetou negativamente o crescimento e a fisiologia da rúcula, mas a adição extra de Ca(NO3)2 reduziu os efeitos nocivos da salinidade. Recomenda-se adição extra de 50% de Ca(NO3)2 na solução nutritiva para reduzir o efeito do estresse salino.

ABSTRACT Due to the important functions of calcium in plant physiology, supplementation of this nutrient may be a viable strategy to increase the tolerance of plants to salinity. Thus, the objective in this study was to evaluate the gas exchange and growth of broad-leaf arugula cultivars cultivated in coconut fiber subjected to salt stress. Four nutrient solutions [(S1 - standard nutrient solution (electrical conductivity of water - ECw of 0.5 dS m-1; S2 - nutrient solution using saline water with NaCl at 3.5 dS m-1; S3 - S2 enriched with Ca(NO3)2 at 50%; S4 - S2 enriched with Ca(NO3)2 at 100%, obtaining values of 2.3, 5.1, 5.5, and 5.9 dS m-1, for S1, S2, S3, and S4, respectively], and two cultivars of arugula (Donatella and Gigante Folha Larga), arranged in a 2 × 4 factorial scheme, with three replicates, were studied. Plants were harvested 40 days after sowing and evaluated for the following variables: plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, total fresh mass, total dry mass, specific leaf area, leaf succulence, relative chlorophyll index, stomatal conductance, CO2 assimilation rate, transpiration rate, internal CO2 concentration, instantaneous water use efficiency, and intrinsic carboxylation efficiency. The cultivar Gigante Folha Larga was more tolerant to salinity of nutrient solution. The use of salinized nutrient solution negatively affected arugula growth and physiology, but the extra addition of Ca(NO3)2 reduced the harmful effects of salinity. Extra addition of 50% of Ca(NO3)2 in the nutrient solution is recommended to reduce the effect of salt stress.

RESUMO O potássio é um nutriente com potencial para aumentar a tolerância das plantas ao estresse salino. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a produção e a qualidade da couve submetida ao estresse salino e às concentrações de potássio em ambiente protegido. O delineamento experimental adotado foi em parcela subdivididas, sendo as parcelas compostas por cinco soluções nutritivas (tratamento controle, S1 - solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS m-1 (500 mg L-1 de KNO3), e quatro soluções nutritivas preparadas em águas salobras (3,5 dS m-1) contendo quatro concentrações de KNO3 (S2 - 500 mg L-1, S3 - 625 mg L-1, S4 - 750 mg L-1, S5 - 1.000 mg L-1). As subparcelas foram representadas por duas cultivares de couve folha (Manteiga e Manteiga da Geórgia). Foram avaliadas as variáveis de produção de folhas e qualidades físicas e químicas pós-colheita. A solução nutritiva salinizada com adição de NaCl (S2) reduziu a produção, mas não reduziu a qualidade pós-colheita da couve folha. A adição extra de KNO3 em 25% (S3) foi eficiente para reduzir o efeito deletério do estresse salino sobre as variáveis comprimento de folha, área foliar, produção e número de maços. A cv. Manteiga da Geórgia se mostrou mais tolerante ao estresse salino que a cv. Manteiga.

ABSTRACT Potassium is a nutrient with the potential to increase plant tolerance to salt stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of kale subjected to salt stress and potassium concentrations in a protected environment. The experimental design was in split plots, with plots composed of five nutrient solutions (control treatment, S1 - standard nutrient solution prepared in low-salinity water, 0.5 dS m-1 (500 mg L-1 of KNO3), and four nutrient solutions prepared in brackish waters (3.5 dS m-1) containing four concentrations of KNO3 (S2 - 500 mg L-1, S3 - 625 mg L-1, S4 - 750 mg L-1, S5 - 1,000 mg L-1), and subplots represented by two leaf kale cultivars (Manteiga and Manteiga da Geórgia). Leaf production variables and post-harvest physical and chemical qualities were evaluated. The saline nutrient solution with the addition of NaCl (S2) reduced production but did not reduce the post-harvest quality of kale. The extra addition of KNO3 at 25% (S3) was efficient in reducing the deleterious effects of salt stress on the variables leaf length, leaf area, leaf production, and number of bunches. The cv. Manteiga da Geórgia was more tolerant to salt stress than the cv. Manteiga.

RESUMO Técnicas alternativas de cultivo sem solo são difundidas; no entanto, estudos comparando os sistemas hidropônicos ainda precisam ser estudados, principalmente em regiões semiáridas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a efeito de sistemas hidropônicos na produtividade e qualidade de cultivares de alface submetidas a diferentes condutividades elétricas da solução nutritiva. A pesquisa foi conduzida em casa de vegetação, adotando delineamento inteiramente casualizado. em esquema fatorial 2 × 2 × 3, sendo duas cultivares de alface (Cinderela e Rubinela), duas condutividades elétricas (2,90 e 1,6 dS m-1), e três sistemas hidropônicos (NFT, semi-hidropônico e floating), com três repetições. Foram avaliados número de folhas, suculência foliar, área foliar específica, massa fresca foliar, massa seca total, área foliar, acidez titulável, vitamina C e sólidos solúveis. A cultivar Cinderela apresentou maior massa fresca de folhas, massa seca total, área foliar, acidez titulável e vitamina C e sólidos solúveis. Os sistemas NFT e floating proporcionaram maior produtividade e qualidade foliar, especialmente na solução de 1,60 dS m-1. O sistema semi-hidropônico proporcionou maior desenvolvimento das plantas com solução nutritiva mais concentrada (2,90 dS m-1).

ABSTRACT Alternative techniques for cultivation without soil are widespread; however, studies comparing hydroponic systems still need to be studied, mainly in semi-arid regions. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of hydroponic systems on the yield and quality of lettuce cultivars subjected to different electrical conductivities of the nutrient solution. The research was conducted in a greenhouse, adopting a completely randomized design in a 2 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, being two lettuce cultivars (Cinderela and Rubinela), two electrical conductivities (2.90 and 1.6 dS m-1), and three hydroponics systems (NFT, semi-hydroponic, and floating), with three replications. The number of leaves, leaf succulence, specific leaf area, leaf fresh mass, total dry mass, leaf area, titratable acidity, vitamin C, and soluble solids were evaluated. Cinderela cultivar showed the highest average leaf fresh mass, total dry mass, leaf area, and vitamin C values. The NFT and floating systems provided the highest leaf yield and quality, especially in the solution of 1.60 dS m-1. The semi-hydroponic system provided greater development of the plants with a more concentrated nutrient solution (2.90 dS m-1).

ABSTRACT Managing electrical conductivity levels is one of the fundamentals required to obtain greater production and better quality of vegetables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution on the kohlrabi crop cultivated in semi-hydroponic system. A randomized block design was used with five treatments associated with the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (1.31, 1.71, 2.37, 2.98, and 3.75 dS m-1) and four replications. The plants were harvested 78 days after transplanting and evaluated for growth, production, and postharvest quality. Nutrient solution with electrical conductivity (EC) of 1.31 dS m-1 promotes greater production of purple kohlrabi. The increase in EC reduced linearly most of the analyzed variables (leaf area, fresh mass of leaves, bulb and shoot, dry mass of leaves and total, bulb volume and firmness), with more significant losses for the bulb fresh mass (50.54%) and bulb volume (57.37%) variables. The use of nutrient solution with EC between 2.3 and 2.9 dS m-1 increased the vitamin C content and the titratable acidity.

RESUMO O manejo dos níveis de condutividade elétrica é um dos fundamentos necessários para se obter maior produção e melhor qualidade de hortaliças. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva na cultura da couve-rábano cultivada em sistema semi-hidropônico. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos associados à condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (1,31; 1,71; 2,37; 2,98 e 3,75 dS m-1) e quatro repetições. As plantas foram colhidas 78 dias após o transplante e avaliadas quanto ao crescimento, produção e qualidade pós-colheita. Solução nutritiva com condutividade elétrica (CE) de 1,31 dS m-1 proporciona maior produção de couve-rábano roxa. O aumento da CE reduziu linearmente a maioria das variáveis analisadas (área foliar, massa fresca de folhas, bulbos e parte aérea, massa seca de folhas e totais, volume e firmeza de bulbos), com perdas mais expressivas para as variáveis massa fresca de bulbos (50,54%) e volume de bulbos (57,37%). A utilização de solução nutritiva com CE entre 2,3 e 2,9 dS m-1 aumentou o teor de vitamina C e a acidez titulável.

RESUMO O pak choi é uma hortaliça folhosa rica bioativos importantes para a saúde humana. Por ser cultivado predominantemente nos continentes europeu e asiático, existem poucas informações sobre esta hortaliça na literatura brasileira. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade do pak choi cultivado em sistemas hidropônicos utilizando soluções nutritivas de diferentes valores de condutividade elétrica. Para isto, o experimento foi instalado seguindo o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 × 5, sendo dois sistemas hidropônicos (NFT e Semi-hidropônico) e cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica (1,0; 2,0; 3,0; 4,0 e 5,0 dS m-1). As plantas foram colhidas aos 35 dias após o transplantio e avaliadas quanto às seguintes variáveis: altura de planta, número de folhas, diâmetro do caule, área foliar, massa fresca e seca da parte aérea, suculência foliar, área foliar específica, firmeza do pecíolo, pH do suco e sólidos solúveis. As variáveis de crescimento e qualidade foram afetadas pela interação entre os fatores CEs e sistemas hidropônicos. O sistema semi-hidropônico proporcionou o maior desenvolvimento das plantas e maior tolerância à salinidade. As plantas cultivadas no sistema NFT apresentaram menor exigência nutricional para atingir o máximo crescimento. O aumento da CE da solução nutritiva não afetou a qualidade visual do pak choi, mas reduziu a qualidade físico-química das folhas.

ABSTRACT Pak choi is a leafy vegetable rich in important bioactives for human health. As this vegetable is cultivated predominantly in Europe and Asia, there is little information about it in the Brazilian literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of pak choi cultivated in hydroponic systems using nutrient solutions of different electrical conductivities. An experiment was set up following a randomized block design, in a 2 × 5 factorial scheme, with two hydroponic systems (NFT and Semi-hydroponic) and five levels of electrical conductivity (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 dS m-1). The plants were harvested 35 days after transplanting and evaluated for the following variables: plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, shoot fresh and dry mass, leaf succulence, specific leaf area, petiole firmness, juice pH and soluble solids. Growth and quality variables were affected by the interaction between EC levels and hydroponic systems. The semi-hydroponic system promoted the greatest development of pak choi plants and greater tolerance to salinity. Plants cultivated in the NFT system had a lower nutritional requirement to reach maximum growth. Increase in nutrient solution EC did not affect the visual quality of pak choi, but reduced the physicochemical quality of its leaves.

RESUMO A qualidade das mudas é fator determinante para garantir o maior potencial produtivo das culturas. Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade das mudas de alface produzidas em sistema floating, em função do volume das células e da condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva. O experimento foi realizado no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 2 x 4, com três repetições. Foram produzidas mudas de três cultivares de alface (Great Lakes 659, Elba e Creta), em dois tipos de bandejas (128 e 200 células), e fertirrigadas com soluções nutritivas de quatro condutividades elétricas (1,0; 1,5; 2,0 e 2,5 dS/m). As mudas foram avaliadas quanto a altura, número de folhas, comprimento da raiz principal, diâmetro de coleto, área foliar, massa seca total e razão entre massa seca de parte aérea e massa seca de raízes (MSPA/MSR). A cultivar Great Lakes 659 apresentou mudas mais vigorosas para a maioria das variáveis analisadas. As três cultivares produziram mudas mais vigorosas quando cultivadas em bandejas de 128 células, com solução nutritiva com CE variando entre 1,8 e 2,0 dS/m.

ABSTRACT The quality of seedlings is a determining factor to guarantee the greatest potential crop productivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of lettuce seedlings grown in floating system, in relation to cell volume and electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 3 x 2 x 4 factorial scheme, with three replicates. Seedlings of three lettuce cultivars (Great Lakes 659, Elba and Creta) were produced in two types of trays (128 and 200 cells) and fertigated with nutrient solutions (four electrical conductivities of 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 and 2.5 dS/m). The variables evaluated were: height, number of leaves, length of the main root, stem diameter, leaf area, total dry mass and shoot dry mass/roots dry mass (MSPA/MSR) ratio. Great Lakes 659 showed more vigorous seedlings for most of the evaluated variables. The three cultivars produced higher quality seedlings when cultivated in trays with 128 cells, with the EC of the nutrient solution ranging from 1.8 to 2.0 dS/m.

RESUMO Qualidades físico-químicas do substrato, como capacidade de manutenção de umidade e retenção de bases trocáveis possibilitam melhor atividade fotossintética e ganhos de crescimento de plantas em cultivo semi-hidropônico. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes substratos na fisiologia e crescimento de pimentão cultivado sob estresse salino. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, utilizando delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 x 4, formado por três substratos [Fibra de coco, Areia, Mistura (Fibra de coco+Areia (1:1)] e quatro níveis de condutividade elétrica da solução nutritiva (2,2; 3,5; 4,5 e 5,5 dS/m), com três repetições. Aos 72 dias após o transplantio, as plantas foram avaliadas quanto às trocas gasosas por meio da condutância estomática, transpiração, fotossíntese, eficiência do uso da água e eficiência intrínseca do uso da água. Aos 120 dias após o transplantio as plantas foram coletadas e avaliadas quanto ao crescimento da massa seca de folhas, massa seca de caule, massa seca de frutos e massa seca total. O estresse salino afetou as trocas gasosas das plantas de pimentão em todos os substratos, especialmente nos níveis de condutividade elétrica maiores. O substrato fibra de coco proporcionou melhores condições fisiológicas e de crescimento para o pimentão cultivado sob estresse salino. É viável o cultivo de pimentão sob salinidade até 3,5 dS/m utilizando substrato fibra de coco ou a mistura de fibra de coco com areia (1:1).

ABSTRACT Physicochemical qualities of the substrate, such as moisture retention capacity and retention of exchangeable bases, enable better photosynthetic activity and plant growth gains in semi-hydroponic cultivation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different substrates on physiology and growth of bell peppers cultivated under salinity stress. The research was conducted in a greenhouse, in randomized block design, 3 x 4 factorial scheme, using three substrates [coconut fiber, sand, mixture (coconut fiber + sand (1:1)] and four electrical conductivity levels of the nutrient solution (2.2; 3.5; 4.5 and 5.5 dS/m), with three replications. At 72 days after transplanting, we evaluated gas exchanges in plants through stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, photosynthesis, water use efficiency and intrinsic water use efficiency. At 120 days after transplanting, the plants were collected and evaluated in relation to leaf dry mass, stem dry mass, fruit dry mass and total dry mass. Salinity stress affected gas exchange in bell pepper plants in all substrates, especially at higher salt levels. Coconut fiber provided better physiological and growth conditions for bell pepper grown under salinity stress. Bell pepper can be grown under salinity levels up to 3.5 dS/m using coconut fiber or the mixture of coconut fiber and sand (1:1) as substrates.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da salinidade na produção e qualidade de frutos de pimentão (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivado em diferentes substratos. O delineamento adotado foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 × 4, sendo três substratos {Fibra de coco, Areia e Mistura [Fibra de coco+Areia (1:1)]} e quatro salinidades da solução nutritiva (2,2; 3,5; 4,5 e 5,5 dS/m), com três repetições. A primeira colheita de frutos foi aos 60 dias após o transplantio (DAT) e as demais semanalmente. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: número de frutos (comerciais, não comerciais e total), massa média de frutos comerciais, produção de frutos (comercial e total), teor de sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, razão sólidos solúveis/acidez titulável, vitamina C e firmeza dos frutos. A maior produção de frutos ocorreu com os substratos Fibra de coco (947,27 g/planta) e Mistura (763,71 g/planta).O tipo de substrato exerce pouca influência sobre a qualidade dos frutos de pimentão produzidos sob estresse salino até 4,5 dS/m. Os substratos Fibra de coco e Mistura são os mais recomendados para a produção de pimentão em condições de estresse salino até 3,5 dS/m.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the salinity effect on the production and quality of bell pepper fruits (Capsicum annuum L.) grown in different substrates. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks, in a 3 × 4 factorial scheme, with three substrates {coconut fiber, sand and mixture [coconut fiber + sand (1:1)]}, and four salinity levels of the nutrient solution (2.2; 3.5; 4.5 and 5.5 dS/m), with three replicates. The first fruit harvest was 60 days after transplanting (DAT) and the others weekly. The following variables were evaluated: number of fruits (marketable, unmarketable and total), average mass of marketable fruits, fruit production (marketable and total), soluble solid content, titratable acidity, soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio, vitamin C and fruit firmness. The largest fruit production occurred with coconut fiber (947.27 g/plant) and mixture (763.71 g/plant). The type of substrate has little influence on the quality of bell pepper fruits produced under salinity stress up to 4.5 dS/m. Coconut fiber and mixture are the most recommended substrates for bell pepper production under salinity stress up to 3.5 dS/m.

RESUMO A alface é uma hortaliça folhosa sensível à salinidade, e em condições de estresse salino apresenta crescimento reduzido e desequilíbrio nutricional, principalmente na absorção de cálcio. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do enriquecimento da solução nutritiva com nitrato de cálcio em soluções preparadas com água salina na cultura da alface. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram representados por cinco soluções nutritivas [S1 - solução nutritiva padrão (SNP); S2 - SNP + NaCl (3,5 dS m-1); S3 - S2 + Ca(NO3)2 (50% = 6,86 mmol L-1); S4 - S2 + Ca(NO3)2 (100% = 9,15 mmol L-1); S5 - S2 + Ca (NO3)2 (150% = 11,43 mmol L-1)] em alface do grupo crespa, cv. Elba. Após o preparo das soluções nutritivas, as soluções apresentaram as seguintes condutividades elétricas: 1,8 (S1); 4,8 (S2); 5,4 (S3); 6,0 (S4); 6,6 (S5) dS m-1. Foram avaliadas variáveis de crescimento, nutrição e qualidade pós-colheita da alface. Com exceção do diâmetro do caule, número de folhas totais, pH da planta e teor de vitamina C, as demais variáveis foram afetadas pela adição extra de Ca(NO3)2 nas soluções nutritivas. A alface cv. Elba cultivada em fibra de coco é tolerante à salinidade de 4,8 dS m-1 (S2). ABSTRACT Lettuce is a leafy vegetable sensitive to salinity, and under saline stress conditions it presents nutritional imbalance, mainly in calcium absorption. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of enriching the nutrient solution with calcium nitrate in solutions prepared with saline water in the lettuce crop. A completely randomized design was used, with five treatments and four replicates. RESUMO O manejo nutricional pode ser uma estratégia eficiente para mitigar os efeitos da salinidade na produção e qualidade de frutos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção e qualidade de frutos de mini melancia, cultivar Sugar Baby, cultivado em ambiente protegido, sob estresse salino e relações K+/Ca2+. O estudo foi realizado em casa de vegetação, em delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema 1 + 5, resultando em seis tratamentos e quatro repetições. Foram aplicadas seis soluções nutritivas, uma utilizando água de baixa salinidade (0,5 dS m-1) e solução nutritiva padrão (S1, tratamento controle) e as demais utilizando água salinizada com NaCl, a 5,0 dS m-1 (S2) e adição extra de K (S3 = 50% e S4 = 100%) e Ca (S5 = 50% e S6 = 100%). Foram avaliadas as variáveis de produção (produção de frutos, diâmetro longitudinal do fruto, diâmetro transversal do fruto, espessura da casca, firmeza da polpa) e qualidade pós-colheita (sólidos solúveis, vitamina C, acidez titulável e índice de maturação), além das variáveis referentes a cor da polpa (luminosidade, croma e ângulo de Hue). A adição de NaCl reduziu a produção de frutos, diâmetro longitudinal dos frutos, diâmetro transversal dos frutos, espessura da casca e vitamina C. Entre as soluções nutritivas salinas, a adição extra de K a 50% (S3) atenua os efeitos deletérios do estresse salino nas variáveis de produção e o teor de vitamina C. ABSTRACT Nutritional management can be an efficient strategy to mitigate the effects of salinity on fruit production and quality. This study aimed to evaluate the production and quality of fruits of mini watermelon crop, Sugar Baby cultivar, grown in a protected environment, under salt stress and K+/Ca2+ ratios. RESUMO A suplementação mineral adequada pode ser uma estratégia para viabilizar o uso de água salobra na produção de hortaliças. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito das concentrações de nitrato de cálcio nas trocas gasosas foliares e na produção de couve (Brassica oleracea L.) fertigada com soluções nutritivas salinizadas. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados (4 + 1), com quatro repetições. Foram utilizadas cinco soluções nutritivas, sendo quatro foram preparadas em água salobra (6,0 dS m-1) contendo quatro concentrações de Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1.125, 1.500 e 1.875 mg L-1)] e um tratamento controle (solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 de Ca(NO3)2) . As seguintes análises foram realizadas: trocas gasosas foliares, área foliar e produção de matéria fresca. A solução nutritiva padrão forneceu maiores valores para taxa fotossintética (13,06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), condutância estomática (0,19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiração (2,76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), eficiência instantânea do uso da água (4,73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), eficiência instantânea de carboxilação (0,053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), área foliar (2,78 cm2 por planta) e produtividade de matéria fresca folhas (2,64 kg por planta).O Ca(NO3)2 não anulou, mas atenuou o efeito deletério do estresse salino nas trocas gasosas foliares, com exceção da produção da couve (massa fresca de folhas).

ABSTRACT Adequate mineral supplementation can be a strategy to enable the use of brackish water in the production of vegetables. This study intended to evaluate the effect of calcium nitrate concentrations on leaf gas exchanges and yield of kale (Brassica oleracea L) fertigated with salinized nutrient solutions. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block experimental design (4 + 1), with four replicates. Four nutrient solutions prepared in brackish water (6.0 dS m-1) containing four concentrations of Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1,125, 1,500, and 1,875 mg L-1)] and a control treatment (standard nutrient solution using low-salinity water, 0.5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 of Ca(NO3)2) were used in the study. The following analyses were performed: leaf gas exchanges, leaf area, and fresh matter yield. The standard nutrient solution promoted higher values for photosynthetic rate (13.06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), stomatal conductance (0.19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiration (2.76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), instantaneous water use efficiency (4.73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (0.053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), leaf area (2.78 cm2 per plant), and leaf fresh matter yield (2.64 kg per plant). The Ca(NO3)2 not nullified but mitigated the deleterious effect of salt stress on leaf gas exchanges, except for kale yield (leaf fresh matter).

RESUMO Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a eficiência de uso de fósforo em genótipos de meloeiro cultivados em sistema hidropônico. Foram avaliados 10 genótipos de meloeiro em soluções nutritivas com e sem restrição de fósforo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados no esquema fatorial 10 × 2, com cinco repetições. Foram avaliados os seguintes caracteres: número de folhas, diâmetro do caule, comprimento do ramo principal, comprimento do sistema radicular, volume do sistema radicular, clorofila, razão do teor de fósforo na raiz e parte aérea, fósforo total, razão da matéria seca na raiz e parte aérea, matéria seca total e eficiências de uso, de aquisição e de utilização interna de fósforo. Verificou-se a existência de variabilidade entre os genótipos para todos os caracteres avaliados, exceto para clorofila. Os genótipos A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52 e Trinity foram classificados como eficientes e responsivos na solução com restrição de fósforo, sendo promissores para estudos em melhoramento genético.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of phosphorus use with melon genotypes cultivated in a hydroponic system. Ten melon genotypes were evaluated in solutions with and without phosphorus restriction. A randomized block design in a 10 × 2 factorial scheme was used, with five replicates. The following characteristics were evaluated: leaf number, stem diameter, main branch length, root system length, root system volume, chlorophyll, root and shoot phosphorus concentration ratio, total phosphorus, root and shoot dry matter ratio, total dry matter, and phosphorus use, acquisition, and internal utilization efficiencies. The existence of variability among genotypes was verified for all evaluated characteristics, except for chlorophyll. Genotypes A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52, and Trinity were classified as efficient and responsive in the phosphorus-restricted solution and are promising for breeding studies.

ABSTRACT Melon cultivation under saline conditions is a challenge, as the plants can suffer a reduction in fruit production and quality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and quality of noble melon fruit fertigated with different saline solutions and K/Ca ratios. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with treatments arranged in a 3 x 6 factorial scheme, using three melon cultivars (Bazuca, McLaren, County) fertigated with six nutrient solutions [S1 - standard nutrient solution (SNS); S2 - SNS + NaCl (5.0 dS m-1); S3 - S2 enriched with K (50%); S4 - S2 enriched with K (100%); S5 - S2 enriched with Ca (50%); S6 - S2 enriched with Ca (100%)]. At the end of each cultivar cycle, the fruit was harvested and assessed for the following parameters: fresh fruit weight, fruit diameter, internal cavity, pulp thickness, pulp firmness, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio, and vitamin C. Salt stress impaired the physical characteristics of the fruit of the three noble melon cultivars. The nutrient solution enriched with 50% K (S3) did not reduce the effect of salt stress on fresh weight or fruit size in the melon, but afforded an increase in fruit quality.

RESUMO A soja destaca-se entre as culturas com maior aplicação da transgenia, principalmente para tolerância a herbicidas, pragas e doenças, mas são escassos estudos sobre estresse salino em plantas geneticamente modificadas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a tolerância ao estresse salino de genótipos de soja, tradicionais e geneticamente modificadas, nas fases de germinação e plântulas. Para tanto, foram utilizadas sementes de 13 genótipos de soja, sendo cinco tradicionais (BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba e FTR-4389) e oito transgênicas (BRS Sambaíba RR, BRS-333-RR, BRS-9820-RR, PAS-13565-74-RR, PAS-11711-007-RR, BRS-918-IPRO, AS-3810-IPRO e M-8210-IPRO), submetidas a quatro potenciais osmóticos (0.0; -0.1; -0.2 e -0.3 MPa). A qualidade das sementes foi avaliada a partir das seguintes variáveis: porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento da parte aérea, comprimento de raiz, acúmulo de massa seca e índice de tolerância à salinidade. Todas as variáveis foram afetadas pelo estresse salino. Os genótipos convencionais BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba, bem como do grupo RR PAS-13565-74-RR e PAS-11711-007-RR são tolerantes à salinidade. Os genótipos FTR-4389 (convencional) BRS Sambaíba RR (RR) são menos tolerantes ao estresse salino. Todos os genótipos do grupo IPRO são moderadamente tolerantes ao estresse salino.

ABSTRACT Soybean stands out among the crops with the greatest application of transgenics, mainly for tolerance to herbicides, pests, and diseases; however, studies on salt stress in genetically modified plants are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of both traditional and genetically modified soybean genotypes to saline stress during the germination and seedling phases. Seeds of 13 soybean genotypes were selected (five traditional (BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, BRS Sambaíba, and FTR-4389) and eight transgenic (BRS Sambaíba RR, BRS-333-RR, BRS-9820- RR, PAS-13565-74-RR, PAS-11711-007-RR, BRS-918-IPRO, AS-3810-IPRO, and M-8210-IPRO)), subjected to four osmotic potentials (0.0, 0.1, -0.2, and -0.3 MPa). The seed quality was evaluated using the following variables: the germination percentage, germination speed index, shoot length, root length, dry mass accumulation, and salinity tolerance index. All variables were found to be affected by salt stress. However, the conventional genotypes, BRS Carnaúba, BRS Pérola, BRS Tracajá, and BRS Sambaíba, and the RR group PAS-13565-74-RR, and PAS-11711-007-RR were tolerant to salinity, whereas the genotypes FTR-4389 (conventional) and BRS Sambaíba RR (RR) were less tolerant to salt stress, and all genotypes in the IPRO group were moderately tolerant to salt stress.

RESUMO O fósforo tem importância fundamental para o suprimento energético necessário para o metabolismo vegetal, mas ainda é pouco estudado em culturas importantes, como a mandioca. Objetivou-se avaliar o acúmulo e a eficiência do uso do fósforo em diferentes cultivares de mandioca no semiárido. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos em duas safras agrícolas, 2018/2019 e 2019/2020, em Mossoró-RN. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, em parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Nas parcelas, foram aplicadas no sulco de cultivo cinco doses de fósforo (P) (0; 60; 120; 180 e 240 kg ha-1 de P2O5), e, nas subparcelas quatro cultivares de mandioca (Água Morna, BRS Gema de Ovo, Recife e Venâncio). As cultivares Água Morna e Recife exportam mais fósforo através de suas raízes. As cultivares Venâncio e Água Morna apresentam maior eficiência agronômica quando adubadas com 60 kg ha-1 de P2O5. A eficiência aparente de recuperação do P apresentou a seguinte ordem: ‘BRS Gema de Ovo’ > ‘Água Morna’ > ‘Venâncio’ > ‘Recife’, com maiores índices na dose de 60 kg ha-1 de P2O5.

ABSTRACT Phosphorus is of fundamental importance for the energy supply necessary for plant metabolism, but it is still understudied for important agricultural crops such as cassava. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accumulation and efficiency of phosphorus use in different cassava cultivars in the semiarid region. Two experiments were carried out during two agricultural seasons 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in split plots, with four replicates. In the plots, five doses of phosphorus (P) (0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg ha-1 of P2O5) were applied in the planting furrow, and four cassava cultivars (Água Morna, BRS Gema de Ovo, Recife, and Venâncio) were cultivated in the subplots. The cultivars Água Morna and Recife export more phosphorus through their roots. The cultivars Venâncio and Água Morna show greater agronomic efficiency when fertilized with 60 kg ha-1 of P2O5. The apparent P recovery efficiency presented the following order: ‘BRS Gema de Ovo’ > ‘Água Morna’ > ‘Venâncio’ > ‘Recife’, with higher indices at the dose of 60 kg ha-1 of P2O5.
